I'm APD officer Marissa Martinez. My rank is patrolman first class. I'm with the DWI unit. Tonight the cadets are working with um people who had actually volunteered their services to the Albuquerque Police Department. Um they come in and we we dose them to certain levels. There are a few people in there who have not been drinking at all. Um and the cadets will come out from the classroom and into the into the gymnasium where we have this all set up and conduct field sobriety tests. and the other instructors are just going to stand by and make sure that they have interpreted how to do field sobriety tests and that they administer them properly. Uh cadets um at some point um upon completion of the academy will go on a ride along with a DWI unit. They'll be assigned to a DWI officer and go either on a ride along or they'll attend a checkpoint and um be able to also practice some of the skills they learned today in the classroom. Cadets are taught how to take notes, um, fill out a proper report, all the traffic citations that are included, and the full, um, book and arresting um, procedure as far as booking someone for a DWI.
