truly around 350 for a on June 11th 2023 patrolman Dominic Vander Brook with the Ocean Township Police Department observe the black 2015 Nissan Altima driving in an erratic manner on Route 9 North in wtown New Jersey he activated his emergency lights and initiated a traffic stop in front of wtown Plaza at 529 Route 9 North after she pulled over patrolman Vander Brook approached the vehicle to make contact with the driver who was identified as 21-year-old marac Cruz patrolman Russell merer also arrived on scene to assist with the traffic stop watermelon lemon I got one strawberry lemonade one pineapple lemon hello hi Patrol in Vander oan Township I stopped you because you're all over the road that's okay where you coming from work all right where do you work at where's that dolber oh okay for her documents and patrolman Vander Brook observed indicators of impairment Maric Cruz told the officer that she had left work as a server at do Chay ber in manah hawen New Jersey and that she was headed home he asked her how much she had to drink and she admitted to consuming a few drinks earlier that evening theyed on his suspicion of impairment patrolman Vander Brook asked Maric Cruz to exit the vehicle and performed field sobriety exercises a couple I'm sorry come on be honest Sor a couple a couple Hey listen to me um just decline that for now I just want to talk to you for a sec okay going to look like this out of the start position you're going to take nine Heel To Toe steps when I tell you to begin okay one two three I took three you're going to take nine okay on the ninth step keep your front foot on the ground turn around using a series of small steps through the other one like this and take nine back one two three again I took three you're G to take nine okay remember while you're walking arms at your sides look down at your feet count each step out loud and once you start walking don't stop okay do you understand the instructions definitely will fail that do you want me to demonstrate it again for you no I I I know okay you understand it yeah all right do you uh before we start you have any injuries that's going to prevent you from doing this no okay all you're going to look down at your raised foot and you're going to count out loud in the following manner 101 10002 1003 and so on until I tell you to stop okay so it's going to look like this out of the start position raise either leg approximately 6 inches off the ground keeping your foot parallel to the ground okay both legs straight arms are at your sides looking down at the raised foot at your sides arms at your sides raise your foot back up based on her erratic driving her admission to consuming alcohol before operating a motor vehicle and her inability to adequately complete the field sobriety exercises patrolman vaner Brook placed Maric Cruz under arrest for driving Under the Influence a search of her vehicle incident to arrest revealed multiple open containers her vehicle was impounded for a mandatory 12 hold under law she was transported by patrolman Vander Brook to the Ocean Township Police Department for further processing okay you can stop okay all right I need you samples have someone to come pick you up in a little bit her Alco test results ated a back of 0.16% which was double the legal limit of 0.8% after they were finished with processing her Merit Cruz was eventually released to a sober adult after they signed the potential liability warn inform form on her behalf she was issued the following summonses operating Under the Influence reckless driving
