staff from the Academy we are currently
in week nine of the hundred seven Cadet
class this week we are doing defensive
tactics it starts Monday morning early
and will go through the whole week till
the end of Friday teaching the cadets
basic survival tactics as well as
handcuffing doing pat downs on subjects
how to complete a proper search control
lock to controlling subjects and also
how to defend themselves from common
attacks from people whether using
personal weapons such as fists or feet
or knee strikes as far as someone that's
armed with a knife a knife attack had to
defend themselves and also weapon
retention and firearm detention when
someone tries to grab an officer's
weapon teach them how to try to defend
themselves properly so they can be safe
and keep themselves of life I'm gonna
tell you we're gonna go through the
numbers first I'm gonna tell you guys
drop your hands gonna come straight to
your baton straight up bringing that
tail cap towards your chest exchanging
hands and if you guys notice my hand
that's just a like passing them a baton
or a relay or something okay
that's how fast it's going to be towards
my chest rotating it up and expanding
that baton first thing we're gonna do at
the top straight out of the holder start
rotating that don't cap towards your
chest strong hand comes palm up rotating
back we're going to
baton is that an angle it's not straight
out of them it's not downward to
anything okay straight at him and it
stays in that position that relative
position as far as the angle goes to the
entire time you're going to be here in
the loaded position and we're gonna be
doing forward cutting strikes all the
way down okay so I'm going to take that
