He was shot at a home in Lake City, and a suspect is in custody. News for Jax reporter Lena Pringle is live at the scene where that officer was shot. Lena, you spoke to law enforcement and the suspect's family member. Good afternoon. This is the house where that well-being check ended with a Lake City police officer being shot. Lake City police say that officer Remington Cody Chancy was shot here around 1:30 a.m. this morning. First responders then rushed him to the hospital, and right now he is in stable condition. This all started when officers arrived to a house in the area of Webster Avenue and Jenkins Lane in Lake City to investigate reports of shots fired on Tuesday morning. Once on the scene, officers spotted bullet holes on the outside of the home. LCPD says officers tried to contact someone in the home with the bullet holes. When someone fired inside, hitting an officer, officer Chancy. Surrounding houses were then evacuated while the Columbia County Sheriff's Office SWAT team was called in to work with LCPD to get the suspect out of the home, who initially refused to exit. With the help of family members and after an hour or so of a negotiations, Antonio Jennings, who was identified as the shooter, was removed and taken into custody. I spoke with a family member of Jennings, as well as several neighbors who were out here trying to get answers from law enforcement about exactly what happened. Jennings' nephew says officers could have done more during the well-being check to better identify themselves.
