Sheriff's Department uh this is my first
term so I've been sheriff for a year and
a half prior to that I was under Sheriff
uh prior to that I was Captain and then
Sergeant I started my career out with
the albu police department um and i'
I've been out here for quite a while
now see I've been teaching uh ground
fighting to to the youth um for about 8
to 9 years now um you know that's that's
a very rewarding part because I get to
see these kids grow up I get to be part
of their part of them growing up and set
some type of example um throughout
throughout their life um you know I just
saw a young lady today that was out
running and she uh she she was one of my
students that I remember from very young
and and now she's going into the
military and you know a lot of um what
set her her drive I I believe is is how
she was brought up and I'm just glad to
know that I was some part of that the
most rewarding part of my career has got
to be where I'm at right now um as
Sheriff um I found that I've been a able
to do the most most good I can with the
decisions and the department that we're
that we have now you know a little bit
about that the uh hat and Spurs are not
just for show um I've been uh the last
four years world champion in the
National versatile Ranch Horse
Association um come from a long line of
cowboys uh training horses
and and having Ranch Land um and and we
we compete throughout the year in
different states uh Colorado California
all over in ranch horse
competitions I currently have 14
deputies uh two transport deputies and
an internal staff of three within the
office so for for law enforcement that's
a fairly small siiz Department uh
especially for the size of coverage that
that we we have to uh
cover Torrance county is uh
approximately 4,400 square miles of of
coverage uh so on on an average to to
respond to a call we'll be traveling
code which is light and sirens and
everything for about uh 45 minutes to an
hour

traffic you know you you mess up within
this community and and uh as long as
long as our cases are good and solid but
you mess up out here in Tor County you
know uh you're you're going to answer
for it through the judicial system
they're they're firm and fair uh to all
sides but you know they'll they'll put
you away oh
