Did you have a relationship with him? >> What type of relationship was it? >> He was like a friend. >> Was he trying to get too close to you or something? >> And then what was the conversation when you met him when you saw him that night? >> Detective is speaking with Jakari Webb, a 19-year-old boy. He had just murdered a 19-year-old transgender male, Telen man, whom he lured with promising messages through a fake Instagram account just to cover up the fact that he is gay. >> It was from 2 years ago to now. Why? >> Because you created this account in February. >> I don't remember creating an account. >> I think you did. And I think that you weren't too sure because you you weren't too sure because of your friends and other people you hang out with would not approve of this. >> It was just 200 a.m. on June 23rd, 2022 near Oak Tree Circle and Forest Glenn Boulevard in Daytona Beach when an officer patrolling the area heard multiple gunshots fired. When he arrived at the location, he saw a young boy lying in a pool of his own blood. The officer also observed multiple bullet wounds on the boy's body. Unfortunately, by the time paramedics arrived, the boy was declared dead. To identify the boy, detectives used rapid ID, which identified him as 19-year-old Telen Man. While his identity was now known, detectives also discovered his phone approximately 10 ft away from where man was shot. After contacting his siblings, man's sister, Tikija Man, gave detectives consent to search man's phone and provided the passcode. When they went through his phone, what they found was very disturbing. There was a series of messages between man and another 19-year-old boy, Jakari Webb. Man and Jakari messaged each other more than 170 times between 11:30 p.m. on June 22nd and 1:51 a.m. on June 23rd. Their conversation started when Jakari asked Man where he could see him. Man tried to direct Jakari toward the Sunoko gas station on the corner of Belleview Avenue and Nova Road. At one point, man told Webb he was at the Sonokco, and Jakari replied that he should come down. After a series of text messages, and after Jakari failed to go to the gas station, man then suggested they meet again at 1:33 a.m. at Oak Tree Circle. During that time, they agreed. Man asked Jakari where he was. Jakari replied that he was passing. Jakari then went on to ask man what he was wearing. Based on the observed text messages, the timeline made it clear to detectives that Jakari was the last person to see man. With this discovery, detectives launched a manhunt to locate Jakari's address. Through video surveillance from Bthun Cookman University, detectives discovered that Jakari left a property on Garden Street at 12:54 a.m. and returned to the same address just before 3:00 a.m. The surveillance footage also showed Jakari walking from Nova Road westbound onto Forest Glenn Boulevard. He was then observed kneeling behind a grass hill to hide himself from man before the shooting. With all evidence pointing to Jakari, detectives obtained a search warrant and drove to the Garden Street property where they found Jakari standing in the yard. As Jakari attempted to flee from SWAT and K-9 officers, an officer chased him down. >> GET OUT OF THE GROUND. YOU'RE GOING TO GET DOG. YOU'RE GOING TO GET DOG. Come here. >> After his arrest, Jakari was transported to the police station for further questioning. >> So, talk to me. Talk to me. Is that a yes? >> Yeah. Okay. Do you did you when you saw the police, what did you think immediately? >> I was like, "What the fuck?" >> Cuz I just seen this big ass truck come and then he had he just had the stick out already. We all literally we all was scared as [ __ ] We ain't never been through nothing like that. So, but I just ran cuz I was like, "What the fuck?" I was just scared. Like I ain't never been situation like that. You know, get in trouble or nothing. It ain't no more probation. I was scared. So I just ran around the house. I just literally walked out of the house actually. And then that's when y then that's when they came. Then I ran around the house and it was on the back street. So they said stop and get on the ground. So I stopped and got on the ground. Dude came and jumped on me. >> So I Okay. All right. So So that's why you ran? >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> You were just scared? >> Hell yeah. >> Okay. >> Big ass guns. I never seen that [laughter] like that. >> Yeah. Where where you from originally though? >> Daytona. >> Daytona. >> What what middle school did you go to? >> Campbell. >> You went to Campbell. >> Campbell. I live here and creek shop. >> Okay. And then you went to mainland. >> I went to Se Creek and then >> Oh my jeez. >> So where you stay? Where you live at now? >> With my dad. You know where the auto zone at? >> Uh near near Parkway. >> Yeah. >> Okay. Yeah. Yeah. Bartley. I stay in Bartley. >> Oh, Bartley. Okay. What's the address? >> How long you stay with your daddy? >> Yeah. >> What's his name? >> Alonso. >> Alonso. Which house is that? >> The black and white one. Like towards the end. >> Towards the end of the road. Yeah. >> Yeah. Um, you getting along with your dad? >> Yeah. Yeah. He really was mad, too. He was He was at the And he was mad cuz you know I was trying to violate you know why I let him. >> He told the police. >> Okay. Okay. What's a what's a good email address for you? >> Um I got a new lost man. >> Jakari had a prior legal history involving firearm offenses. He was on probation and was not supposed to be at the location where he murdered man. Now knowing he is already on a short leash, Dakari's only bright idea was to commit a murder. Certainly, his thinking is crazy. And with a record like that, Jakari has not just dug a hole, but he is already operating a backhoe while wearing a blindfold. With that, Jakari knew that he was in the middle of a pit he dug himself. [snorts] >> I want to talk to you about um Thursday, Wednesday night, last Wednesday night. I want to talk to you about that night. Right. Well, do you remember what you were doing that night? >> I was with my brother. your brother was on bar. >> Oh, you were with RJ? >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> And I stay night over there. >> Okay. On Wednesday night. >> All right. Did y'all go to the club or anything? Did y'all do anything? >> All right. Thursday was or Wednesday was the 22nd. >> All right. >> Okay. She won't stop, man. She won't stop. Okay. So, you stayed the night over garden. >> Okay. All right. And uh what did y'all do that night? >> She played a game, watched TV. watch TV. >> Okay. >> I play basketball over there. [ __ ] like that. >> Yeah. Chilling with people. I like my people. >> Yeah. Yeah. R.J.'s mom is super nice, >> you know. >> She's she's super sweet. What? Um, uh, so throughout the night you guys just played basketball. Okay. >> And what else did you do? >> [ __ ] Yes. Then we stayed up till like late. We stayed at like 1 or 2 and then I had to go to sleep cuz I had to work in the morning. I had to get up at 7 and I went to sleep and I got >> Okay. So, you had to work rooms to go on at 7 a.m. >> Yeah. >> Okay. On Thursday, right? >> Where do you normally go? Like where do y'all check in at? Like do you go to the rooms to go location? >> No, it's like it's the old movie theater. That's where the trailer and the truck be at. So we got to go down and then >> Okay. Okay. Gotcha. >> All right. So So Wednesday night you're with R.J. you're over at Garden Street where we where where I met you at today. >> Right. And what And you what time did you guys go to bed? >> Like 1. >> Did you go anywhere? Uh from there? >> I went home in the morning and I went to work. >> Often when suspects are interrogated, their first instinct is to lie their way out, hoping the detective has no clue about their whereabouts. And certainly Jakari is already following the same pattern because nothing says master criminal like a guy who thinks his alibi is as solid as wet tissue paper. Despite telling the detective he stayed home the night they found man dead. What he is about to learn next would eventually lead him into a trap. A trap so obvious that even a toddler playing hide-and-seek would have seen it coming. >> Okay. Stay in the night. What do you normally stay at when you're there? >> Okay. And what in whose room? At the dinner. >> Oh, in the in the back there. >> Okay. All right. [clears throat] Do you remember what you all what you ate that day? Wednesday night for dinner. >> I don't eat right. >> No. >> You and RJ. Didn't grab anything. >> All right. Who else was at the house? >> Grandma. >> Oh, yeah. Everybody that stayed on tripping. Everybody that stayed in their grandma. >> Okay. All right. And did you And so you stayed there the whole day. You didn't go anywhere. Y'all just kind of played games and stuff like that. >> Yeah. >> All right. [clears throat] >> Okay. All right. When you're there, since you don't have a license, how do you travel around? >> Walk. >> You walk everywhere. >> Yeah. >> Whose bike do you ride? >> I ride bike friend. >> Who? shell. >> Okay. >> What bike? What What does that bike look like? >> It's a beach cruiser. It's like gray with black handle bars. >> Okay. Anything? Does it have anything else cool to it? Where's that bike located at? >> G. >> Is that on garden >> at the house? >> Okay. Does it have u I saw a few bikes out there. >> I don't know. >> Yeah. Is it the one with the basket that has a thing on the back? the basket in the front. >> Remember? >> Just Just a beach cruiser. >> The dark color beach cruiser. >> Yeah, the gray one. >> The gray one. >> All right. When When's the last time you used that beach cruiser? >> Today. >> Where'd you go to? >> To the store. >> Which? >> Down the street. The red one. Down the street. >> What? >> The corn store down the street. >> The red one. >> Yeah, the red store. >> Where's that? >> Down the street from guard. Right by the car wash. Oh, okay. Gotcha. Gotcha. Okay. Which which which uh bike did you use? >> I I used the green one. >> The green one still. Okay. Have you ever used that bike prior to this? Prior to today, did you use any did you travel by any bicycle on on Wednesday? >> No. Okay. All right. So, Dar, I'm going to be straight up with you. All right. I'm not here to violate you. All right? But I but I also I'm always willing to give people breaks. Last thing I want to do is see you jammed up with your probation officer because listen to me and I mean this, okay? You're 19. All right? I'm not trying to see you go and, you know, deal with [ __ ] through your through your probation officer because you ran away. >> You feel me? >> I'm not that person. But you have to work with me and understand the moment you're not honest with me is the moment my relationship with you goes downhill. Okay? I I respect you. I respect you and I tell you the truth. Okay? Whether it's whether it's going to hurt your feelings or not, I'll tell you the truth. Is that fair? >> Okay. But I expect the same the same from you. Okay. >> Deal. >> Okay. And I mean that I'll help you as much as I can. >> All right. But you cannot do me. You cannot lie to me. >> No lie to you. >> Okay. I know you're a good I know you're a good kid. I know this. Okay. But there's been a string of of car breaks and burglaries and everything else. And let me tell you what I have. I need to ask this question from you. >> Were you trying to break into the house? >> Oh, no. >> What were you doing? >> Yeah. No, that's what my mom stayed. I was going around the RV. She stay in the RV. I was going around it. I was trying to break in. >> Okay. Because see, we get Ring. So, we get Ring camera footage and when something suspicious happens, >> we know who we obviously we know this is you. It's clear as day, right? Besides shooting man that night, a doorbell camera captured Jakari trying to break into a house owned by another person because apparently one felony wasn't enough for this overachiever. He had to go for the two for one special. Despite being confronted with this, Jakari insisted that it was his mother's house. [music] However, in admitting that he was trying to break into his mother's house, his story made no sense. Jakari was also digging himself into a deeper hole, given that he had already told detectives he was home the night man was murdered. That were you trying to break into this house? >> Hell no. I promise to god I'm not cuz my my mama stay in that trailer. I ain't trying to break in. I all running around it. >> Hell no. I won't try to break in the house. >> You promise? >> I promise to God. I promise you try to break in this house. >> Hell no. I promise. Hell no. That's my mama trailer right there. She stay in that trailer. >> All right. >> I swear to God. >> Well, I didn't make contact with somebody in the trailer. So I like I said, I haven't made contact with any of those people. >> All right. Hell no. I ain't never tire I would never do nothing like that. That's my people. That's my family. I trust in my brother. I promise to God. N >> okay. >> I never lie. >> Okay. >> I won't even be doing I can't do no dumb [ __ ] like that. That's childish. That's why I work. I got stuff for nobody. Just get my own money. >> Okay. What were you doing out there? What I mean did what were you doing out there running around? What was that? I was just probably passing by. >> Do you remember? You remember the You know the time on that, right? >> If it was his mom's house he was trying to break into, then something is completely wrong here. How does someone break into his parents house like a thief in the early hours of the morning? That's not a breakin. That's a cry for help or a sign that you forgot your spare key because you clearly can't remember anything else. That's a little bit crazy. As crazy as that is, what Jakari is about to learn next would eventually begin to crumble any lies he had planned to tell detectives. >> What's your mom's name? >> Tiana Griffin. >> Well, well, we have to ask that question because it's you you got we're getting footage of of you running up behind a a house, an RV, >> right? That's where my mama stay. I don't want to break that. >> Okay. What were you doing before that? >> We're playing basketball. That's all. That's all we were doing was playing basketball. That's all I remember. I'll probably get a basketball or something. I know breaking nobody's house. I promise you break. >> I know. I know. >> I have kids. You're have five kids. >> Okay. You were young. Listen, you have your whole life ahead. >> Do you understand that? >> Sometimes we make mistakes. Sometimes we do we do things that we regret. Okay? Sometimes that happens because we're human. You're young. We make mistakes. You feel me? What were you doing before that? What did you do before? >> I want to do nothing. I thought you was chilling. I didn't do nothing. Where >> that's all in the same area. That's right by Gar. >> That is why. Never mind. I told you. Everyone I told you. Be honest with me. >> I am. >> That's at 752 South Carolina. Right next to Belleview. >> It's pretty south side. >> It's on the south side. >> Soul City where my auntie stay. >> Soul City. Not that >> my auntie stay over there. >> Okay. And I was at her house. >> Okay. Two of them. >> Okay. >> I have no reason. I promise. I promise you. I have no reason. >> Jakarta, you don't have a reason to lie. >> I don't. >> Well, tell me this. Why did you just tell me? Why did you just tell me that that that house in that RV is your family's when I know it's not? >> I thought that would be my auntie son. Dang. >> Then why would you run up there? Why would you hide behind there? Why would you run up there? >> I ain't hiding nowhere. I was coming from Soul City. >> Soul City is the other way. >> Bro, I was I don't even know I was over there to be real. Wait, what is you talking about? Belle? >> Yeah. >> I don't know why I was over there being over there. >> I think you do. >> I don't. >> Hey, >> I know. Listen to me. I can't help you. I can't help you if you're not straight up with me. >> Listen to me. >> No, I can't help you if you if if you don't tell me the truth. >> I'm not lying about nothing. But okay. >> But okay. What? >> I'm not lying about nothing. >> What did you do? What did you do prior to this? Prior to that video, what did you do? >> Can't do nothing. >> What were you doing? >> I don't remember. I probably come coming from that gas station getting on the train. >> What gas station? >> Sokco. >> You read the Synokco? >> Yes. >> Okay. What were you doing there? >> Getting on the train. It was hot. You >> said I got my shirt off. >> I do see I do see that you have your shirt off. What else? >> That was it. I promise to God. Then I went back to the other side of town by where I stayed. >> How did you get to the other side? >> I walked. How else am I going to get there? I promise, bro. Got no reason why. Nothing. Your car. Hey, I just want to be straight up with you. >> I know he did. >> Whoa. I ain't doing nothing. >> I know. I know everything. >> I ain't doing nothing. >> Jakari. Hey, Jakari. I know everything. >> I didn't do nothing. >> It tears me apart watching young young young men and women destroy their life over bad decisions over bad choices. >> No, Jakari. >> I know. I know exactly what you did, >> bro. What I did I do nothing, bro. I promise I didn't. >> I'm really here for no reason. >> Sorry. >> Talk to me like a man. I told you I didn't do nothing. Bro, >> what? >> What did you do before this? Before Before that video? What did you do? Where were you running from? >> Bro, I was at the store. I saw where you were running from. >> Jakari. >> Jakari. >> I didn't do nothing. >> I'm telling you straight up. I don't believe you. >> Jakari, how did you get over there? >> What? >> From where, >> bro? From the southside. Was on in Sydney. >> Oh, Jakar. She had crazy, bro. You think I'm just talking, bro? >> Hey, Jakard, because I know you're talking about >> I know it all. I know it all. >> I know that you rode your bike. I know you rode a bike over. >> I didn't know. I know. Look at me. I know you wrote the beach cruiser from Garden at 12:50 a.m. >> I cursed or >> No, no, no. And then I guess what? >> What? >> And then I see you again. I see you travel all throughout the city. >> Excuse me. >> I understand. >> Please don't do this to yourself. I'm begging you. Don't do this. I'm here for a reason and I can help you. But if you if you're not truthful with me, I can't help you. I I saw you. I saw you on Campbell Campbell Middle School. I saw you. I saw you. I saw you at Forest Flood. I saw it all. The >> [ __ ] is that? >> You don't like >> Hey, >> nothing. >> Hey, this is your opportunity to tell me >> your story. >> I didn't do nothing. >> Your story. >> I rode the bike through there to go through the to the store, bro. >> But I see you. We have cameras everywhere. >> All right, >> Jakari, I see where you where you dumped the bike. I know who you were talking to. I know everything. >> Oh, no, no, no. Don't do that. Don't do that to me. I told you I would respect you and help you as much as possible. Okay, but the moment you you start lying to me, I cannot convince anyone that it was an accident. I can't convince anyone that it was an accident right now. Right now, it's going based on you being dishonest. I've got video. I've got it all. The whole thing was captured on video. Every bit of this. What? >> Jakari. >> Jakari had been avoiding eye contact repeatedly since the detective brought up the murder case. This technique is called gaze aversion. It often happens when a suspect knows that the evidence against him is strong and he cannot lie his way out. So, they resort to avoidance. However, as the pressure continued to mount on Jakari, he would eventually reach a breaking point and would finally realized his pitiful little lies weren't going to save his sorry rear end. >> I'm here for running. Bro, I don't know what you're talking about. This was crazy, bro. You supposed to be >> saw Jakari. I saw who you met up with that night. Nobody. >> Look at me. I saw it. We saw it. >> Nobody. >> That's crazy. You're trying to say this. Say this, bro. >> We saw it. >> I just want to know why. >> Bro, that's crazy, bro. You trying to sit here and >> sit here and what? that I'm trying to reach out to you. Listen, I'm trying to reach out to you. I'm trying to reach out to you and help you as much as possible. But but you can't do this to me. You can't do this to me. You can't sit here and and and lie and lie and lie and expect me to help you. I can't help you that way. I know what you did and I saw it. I have it everywhere. I can tell you everything you've done. Everything you've done that night. I can tell you what you've done. But the but here's here's here's what I need to know. Why? I just want to know why. Was it a Was it an argument? Was it a mistake? What was it? What was it? >> That's what I'm saying. That makes no sense. >> I can't help you if you don't tell me your side of the story. I can't help you. you start on >> Takari. I have you on video. Okay. I there's video. I can tell you everything that you did. I can tell you your inst your you your I I have search warrants on Instagram. I have Instagram. I have your Instagram accounts. >> Oh, I know. Listen, the ones that you delete. I have it all. >> That tells me everything. Who you are? How do you think we are here? Why are we here? >> Because Jakari, >> Jakari, look at me. Respect me enough to look at me like I do you, >> please. >> Hey, just tell me why. Why? Why? Why did he attack you? Did he attack you? What is your story? I know it's scary right now, but don't be scared. I'm here with you. I need to know your side. I'm here to help you. I need to know your side. Did he attack you? He's a violent person. Did he attack you? Stop. I know you're scared, but don't be. I'm here to help you, but I I have I know everything. Just want to know why. What happened? We're past that. We're past that. >> Jakari, >> they attack me. >> Jakari, we're past that. >> They attack me. >> What happened? >> They attacked me, bro. >> They tapped you? >> He attacked me like you said. >> He attacked you? >> It was an accident. >> Okay. It was an accident. >> Yes, sir. >> Okay. Okay. Hey, hey, hey. It's okay. Hey, it's okay. It's okay. It's okay. >> It's okay. Hey, I promise you it's okay. Tell me your Tell me your story. I know he's violent. I'm I'm aware of this. I just don't know why. What the heck? >> Why tried to kill me for this? >> How a knife. >> He had a knife. So, you're protecting yourself? >> Yes. >> Okay. Why did y'all meet up? >> He wanted to see you. Okay. All right. Did you have a relationship with him? >> What type of relationship was it? >> He was like a friend. >> Was he trying to get too close to you or something? >> I ain't with that. >> And then what was the conversation when you met him? When you saw him that night? >> What up? And [ __ ] like that. >> He said what? I can't hear. >> I was like, "What up?" And then he was like, "What up?" And [ __ ] like that. And then he tried to stab me. >> And then he tried to stab you. According to the autopsy, man was shot nine times. Seven shots to the body, one to the heel, and a grazing shot to the thigh. One of the shots was determined to be fatal. And yet, in the midst of knowing he had killed someone, Jakari would still ask the detective a bizarre question. >> You shot him. >> Okay. Do you know how many times? >> Huh? >> Twice. >> Like like twice. Asking the detective whether he should go home is almost hard to believe. But in taking man's life, he clearly hadn't considered the trauma it would cause his family members because empathy was clearly not in the curriculum for Jakari's life choices. Meanwhile, the detective would leave and return to the room to ask more questions. All right. I had to talk to my wife, telling her I got a lot of paperwork to do. I told you I'm not going to violate you. All right? And I'm going to document the fact that he attacked you, okay? But I need to know where's the gun at. >> Hey, I need to know so at least we have that. So it it shows that you're being 100% honest with me. >> Yeah. I got to go. >> Where'd you throw it? >> I know you went up the trail went up the the path. >> Yeah. >> To Shady. >> Yeah. I threw it by garden. >> By garden? >> No. No, I ain't about I threw it. No, I ain't th No, I ain't about I find it. >> Where at though? Cuz this is going to show good faith >> that you were protecting yourself because we know of his violent history. >> You know what I mean? We're very much aware of this. So, where exactly did you go? >> Where did I go? >> Try to think, man. I'm trying. I'm telling you. It's going to benefit you. Where's that? >> We got a gun at Garden Street underneath the basketball. >> Yeah, that's it. >> Is that the gun? Okay. All right. That's the one you used. Okay, no problem. Right. All right. Do you want something to drink? You hungry or anything? >> How you feel right now? How you feeling? Despite admitting to killing man, detectives also discovered that the Instagram account Jakari had [music] used to message man was fake. When they confronted him with it, what he said was truly disturbing. >> All right. when you when when he tried to stab you. What happened to the knife? >> Did you Did you take it? >> Yeah. >> You took the knife? >> Okay. So, let me tell you what I learned. >> Why did you create a Instagram account? [ __ ] you. 2X. Okay. Okay. So I have all your messages between you two. Why would you bring a gun? to meet him. >> But this is But this is someone you've never met. >> He's never met you. Who did Who did you pretend to be? >> You mean Trey? So, you're on felony probation and you're carrying a gun to meet another person. >> That's the only time though. I want I don't always >> But why did you always want to come hang out? You were talking to him in a very And by the way, I'm not I'm not judging you by any means. This is preference. But did you like him? >> And that's okay. >> I didn't. That's okay. >> Hey, we're out here now. We're out here. Just so you know, you know, you know, >> my my son my son >> Oh, I'm not gay. >> My son's attracted to boys, and I'm okay with that. It is what it is, >> you know, and one of my daughters is attracted to to to women. >> Not attracted to boys. >> So, why would you talk to him like this? This is very uh very sexual in nature. At some point, >> it's just somebody I knew. And then when I seen him, he sent me and he tried to tell me cuz I wasn't who I was trying to kill. Oops. The video didn't show him. The video of you shooting him. I have it. And the video of of him with a knife. That's not there. I see it. >> Are you trying to kill me? >> When you were hiding, you you bent down at the hill. When you when you when you kneel down in there where that hill is and he comes around, you saw that. Okay. You didn't have a knife. We see that 100%. >> I know you have something. I'm not tripping. >> Okay. But you just you just told me that you took the knife, which I know is a lie. >> It wasn't a knife. >> So, I just want to know why. Why we're here. It's you and me. We're out here. Everything is in the open now. Everything is on the table. You and I being honest. You and I are talking. >> I felt like he didn't care about my life. >> He didn't. You felt like you didn't care about your life. >> And by the way, did you did you secretly like him? >> No. >> And that's okay. >> That's what I'm saying. I didn't at all. I don't get why he's trying. He's tried me before. >> But he didn't know who you were. He thought you were a guy named Trey Rodriguez. cuz I didn't want to make this [ __ ] That's all that was. >> But why? Why would you do that? >> Cuz if you were new to me, he really would have killed me. >> Cuz you know I wasn't like that. >> But But why would you meet him? >> H >> Why would you meet up with him? >> You had every opportunity not to. And you I don't know. Like I wasn't thinking. >> Okay. So, I mean, he didn't even How I mean, what do you think the distance was between you and him before you you shot him? >> I don't remember. >> Within 10 ft. Crazy. >> What? >> Trying to hurt me before. >> But he's never met you. >> He has been How >> you know me from Instagram like two years ago. >> Okay. >> Okay. >> Did you guys have a a friendship there? >> Oh, we had no friendship. He thought I was on that and I wasn't. He tried to understand that >> from two years ago >> to now. >> So why would you why would you do what you did to him years later? >> It was from two years ago to now. Why? because you created this account in February. >> I don't remember creating an account, >> but you talked to him as as another person since February for the past five months. >> But you were talking to him. >> Yeah. But but like I guess I guess what I'm asking, man, I guess what I'm asking is what were you trying to get out of it? According to him, man had already been telling people that Jakari was gay years earlier, and some people were starting to believe it. So, he created a fake Instagram account to get back at man. Jakari catfished Man, pretending to be someone else on social media while communicating with him. Through that avenue, he was able to lure a man out and eventually kill him. Jakari was charged with first-degree murder, violation of probation, and resisting arrest. He was eventually sentenced to life in prison without parole. However, a new twist arose in the case on February 6th, 2026. After an appeal, the fifth district court of appeal issued an opinion stating that the judge who presided over the case had made a fundamental error. Jakari Webb's defense attorney had requested a psychological evaluation before the original trial to determine whether Jakari was competent to proceed. Although the evaluation was completed, the fifth district court of appeal ruled that the trial judge committed a fundamental error by failing to formally review the evaluation and make an independent legal ruling on Jakari's competency. Because of this procedural mistake, his life sentence has been set aside and the state must now address his competency before determining whether the 2024 trial verdict can stand or whether a brand new trial must take place. For now, Jakari remains in custody at the Valucia County Jail.
