On May 5th, 2022, officers on Clearwater Beach stopped a group of college kids spotted with open alcohol containers. The officer asked the obvious, "Are you 21?" and gave them multiple chances to come clean. But these teens clearly had other plans. >> Are you 21? >> I don't have it on me. >> Are you 21? >> Are you 21? >> I don't have it on me. >> I'm asking I'm asking her if you're 21. hang it out for me. >> Who's under 21? >> I'm not. >> I know somebody is. >> No. >> So, here's the deal. You lie to me, you're going to jail. Simple as that. You're not the first people under 21 to drink alcohol. It's not that big of a deal. So, I'm going to ask again, who's under 21? >> Okay. 547. 547 >> open alcohol pure 60. >> The citation is open alcohol containers. >> Okay. >> So what what's the deal? >> It's $118 fine. >> $118 fine. >> It could be $118 per closed can of alcohol. So I reckon you probably have a lot of closed alcohol. So imagine $118 times all that. >> Or I could take you to jail. So >> that's the that's the that's the thing. So, here's the thing. If you're going to be honest with me and tell me that who you are, your real age, and all that, I won't take you to jail. It's not criminal. It's a civil citation. It's a civil ticket. It's like a parking ticket. Okay. But if you lie to me about your information, now it's providing calls to law enforcement. Now, it's obstructing justice. You know what I'm saying? >> Yeah. Yeah. No, my my fraternity is a police officer in Tennessee. >> Cool. >> Yeah. But >> are you like the lawyer of the group or >> Yeah. No. I'm just questioning because my best friend is exactly where you are. Badge talks a lot. >> That's why like he does. I mean >> what' you say? >> Nothing, sir. >> What' you say about the badge? Makes you what? >> Said talks a lot. >> Thoughts a lot? >> Yes, sir. >> Okay. You understand you're committing a crime? >> I Yes, sir. I mean, are you going to say I am? I'm not. >> So, so what what can we do to get you out of here? >> Excuse me. respectfully. Like, >> what can you what can you do to get me out of here? >> I can take him to jail. I can take her to jail and we'll leave. >> For what? >> Sit down. I'm not talking to you. You didn't have alcohol. I addressed him and I'm dressing her. So, go away. You can't also vape on the beach. I'll take that. Thank you. >> That's not I call my mom right now. >> I give my mom a phone right now. For who? My mom. My mom. >> Who's your mom? >> You want to buy my mom? >> We are not all this. We're trying to figure out what you guys want. What we want. You're making it like we're bothering you. You're you're you're acting like like So what what you guys want to So comply with what I'm saying? You're you're you're you're you're saying, "What can I do to get me out? What can we do to get me out of here?" >> No, we're not doing that. We're not doing that. >> We're not playing these games. >> Listen to your girl. Shut up. >> This is Florida. Where are you guys from? >> South Carolina. >> Yeah. This ain't South Carolina. This is Florida. Let's go. Where's my bad? >> No. Like I said, sir, the bad speaks a lot. >> Yeah. This is what it says. Sit down. can't stand entitled college kids. I think they know >> I think I mean >> telling me get out of here. What can we do to get you out of here? >> Take a picture. >> I'm sure she'd be proud. >> Very proud. >> Stop. >> Okay. I have your ID. >> Yes, sir. Have her come over here. >> Yes. >> Okay. >> What is your first name? >> 1129 1999. >> I just don't have it on me. >> What state is it? >> South Carolina. Do >> you have a middle name on your license? >> Um I don't know. It might be initial. I don't know. >> That's fine. What is it? Does he have any more property? >> Who? >> Our friend over here. >> I don't know. >> Well, he's going to jail. So, does he have a phone? Does he have a wallet? >> I made it very clear when I walked up what the consequences were. >> We want to play. Listen, listen, listen. It It's actually funny because scientifically, females mature more than males. And it's actually true in this scenario. I got two girls, you know, stopped for the same thing and they're being respectful, nice, not giving me issues. I got guys argue with me. What can we do to get you out of here? I'm I'm not playing that game. Okay? So, so I'm not talking to you. I'm talking to them. I asked if he has any property or stuff that needs to go with him to jail. Okay? If there is not, go away. Let me deal with them and then we'll we'll we'll continue on. >> 547. >> Oh, come on. gold mail detained at this time. >> The other problem the other problem is I can't identify you without ID. So >> that's fine. So you're detained. >> I can't I you could say you're John Smith. You know what I'm saying? >> So being honest, nothing's coming up for this man. So, what does that mean? >> Are you lying about something? >> Okay. >> So, >> why why did you lie after I gave you horrible stressful? >> What? I I gave you a doctor. Put your ass back. >> You lied about your name. >> And date of birth. >> Not my name though. >> Doesn't matter. You make you make me do extra work. forever. >> How old are you? >> 19. >> Okay. >> I literally said to you, "Oh, she's going to jail. She's getting criminally charged." >> I I What did I say? What did I say? I said, "Are you the first person under 21 to drink alcohol?" I think I've been nothing but fair and I gave multiple opportunities. >> I literally asked you three times, "Are you over 21? Are you over 21?" Every time. Yes. Yes. Yes. What's your name and day of birth? You gave me the same name and day of birth twice. Okay. I literally gave you every opportunity to be honest with me and you continue to lie. So now you're getting charged with a crime. >> I've never been in a situation. >> Okay. So you've never been in a situation. The answer is not to lie to the police. After I literally said to you, if you be honest with me, nothing bad is going to happen. Did I not say that? Did I say you're not the first person under 21 to drink alcohol? Did I not say that also? >> I understand. >> Was that I Listen, >> I know. >> It's just This isn't me. This isn't who I am. >> So, why lie about it? >> I just taught to lie to the police. >> Break the rules. >> Okay, but you are. >> I know. >> And that's okay. Like I said before, you're not the first 19-year-old to drink alcohol. I drank alcohol at 19, too. >> But I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt. I know. >> And you got to be honest. >> I know. >> I'm sitting here running that information through a database and nothing's coming up. >> I know. And that's that's my bad. That's me. >> Well, [Music] >> we're turning simple civil stuff into criminal. >> I know. >> That's that that's criminal now. >> I know. And I'm >> Okay. She provided a fake data to me twice. We're done. I've g I've given every opportunity to >> come honest and everything. >> I don't do this though. It's so frustrating. >> I don't do this anywhere. >> I just got to be honest. >> Honesty. >> I'm sorry, >> babe. It's It's got to be in my bag. >> You had that blue thing in your hand, correct? >> I see in the back. All right, let's just buckle them up. >> Yeah. >> What I'm going to do is I'm going to need you to sit back and sit right here. I need you to look that way. What do you think? >> I got bit once. I want to get bit again. Okay. >> I think I've been held up there and given you multiple opportunities to be honest. >> I can't I can't help what you do after that. >> I agree. >> You got this one. >> Yeah. under arrest. >> I don't know about that. >> Do you have anything here? I don't want to send you to jail in a a bikini. So, >> what what get get a bag for her. I don't want to send her to jail in a bikini like this. Go where? >> I know at least address where I can like >> No, no, no, no, no. Why not get involved in what we're doing? >> I just need an address in Ellis County Jail. I can Google it. Where? What? I care about She's in a bikini. >> Okay. So, can I get property for her? Shirt, shorts, maybe some sandals. safe. She's with the police. Nothing bad's going to happen. >> Let me ask you a question. >> I know. >> How many times did I say we're not the first one under 21? I already know who's I already know who's lying. You know, here's the thing. I can't help getting lied to. >> It's just like it's so unfair. Not unfair. >> Is this her stuff? >> I I'm not. >> We can't sit here all day. We have We have work to do. >> Okay. All right. You can't be hugging on her. Let's go. Yeah, it has I think it has a >> This is criminal prov what I literally said what was going to happen. If you give me fake information, I'd be providing false information to law enforce. >> We'll put that on. What can we get out of Let's get out of the limelight. We're in We're in the midst of everybody. >> Okay. This is just a sir. >> Give me this. This is her stuff. Let go. Let go. >> Give me this. Step away. Go away. Go away. I'm done. Where is that? Your bags. >> What else do you have? >> Is that all of my stuff? >> Okay. What are you looking for? Phone. >> I think it's just my phone. I don't know where I put it. >> Don't freak out. Don't freak out. Just do it. >> That's the thing. When you're being interacted with the police, I don't know what is up with you guys' generation. >> Keep the mouth closed and listen to what we have to say. That's it. >> I'm not disagreeing. >> Seriously. Right. There's no need for the the the attitude, the smart comments. Whatever is going to happen is going to happen. Be honest. Shut your mouth and listen to us. That's it. Nine times out of 10, if you do those things, this would not be happening. I gave her 15 chances to be honest. Good. Back up. Goodbye. >> You good? X. After being asked three separate times, the 19-year-old kept insisting she was over 21 and gave fake information twice. The officer had enough. What could have been a $118 civil citation turned into handcuffs and a trip to jail. She was arrested wearing a bikini, and the officer even asked friends to grab her some clothes before transport. Charges: Possession of alcohol under 21, misdemeanor. providing false information to law enforcement, misdemeanor. What started as a simple alcohol fine on the beach turned into criminal charges, a record, and a very embarrassing spring break memory. The officer summed it up perfectly. Nine times out of 10, if you just keep your mouth closed and be honest, none of this happens.
