Hey. Okay. Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey. Hey. That's okay. Hey. It's okay. It's okay. It's okay. >> It's okay. Hey, I promise you it's okay. Tell me your Tell me your story. I know he's violent. I'm I'm aware of this. I just don't know why. What the >> Why did you try to kill me? >> This is Jakari Webb's interrogation. Let's see where his story goes. >> Stick me, stab me. Nothing like that, right? No. Okay. >> Pull his pants up. >> You got anything in your pocket? >> Trash. >> One rumor ended with a 19-year-old dead. And inside the interrogation room, one suspect gave three completely different stories. June 2022, Daytona Beach. Telen man is found bleeding in the street, shot multiple times. Police arrest 19-year-old Jakari Webb. At first, Webb says, "I don't know anything." Then his story changes. He claims man attacked him with a knife, forcing him to shoot in self-defense. But under pressure, there is a third version. It was an accident. Three stories, one dead man, and video evidence that puts his version of events under serious pressure. Stay with us until the end because the real story behind that meeting is far more complicated than it first appeared. so >> I just want to know why. Why? We're here. It's you, you and me. We're out here. Everything is in the open now. Everything is on the table. We're You and I being honest. You and I are talking. >> Cuz I felt like he didn't care about my life. >> He didn't You felt like he didn't care about your life. >> Yes. >> Did And by the way, did you did you secretly like him? >> No. And that's okay. >> That's what I'm saying. I didn't at all. I don't get why he tried me. He tried me before. >> But he didn't know who you were. He thought you were a guy named Trey Rodriguez. >> The detective begins with a relatively simple question. Was Webb trying to break into the house? Webb immediately denies it, but his explanation starts moving around. First, he says he was around his mother's trailer. Then the detective introduces Ring camera footage showing Web clearly in the area. The important psychological shift happens when the detective doesn't aggressively accuse him. Instead, he presents the existence of evidence and lets Webb keep talking. Webb responds with repeated promises and emotional reassurance. I promise. That's my family. Lie, never lie. But the actual explanation becomes less specific. Then comes the key. Change. What were you doing out there? Webb moves from certainty to uncertainty to uncertainty, eventually saying he doesn't know. >> How are you? >> Sorry for the inconvenience. All right. Trying to figure some [ __ ] out. You know what I mean? >> My name is Joey Rosas. All right. I'm a detective with Daytona. >> I'm going to give you my card. All right. So you don't forget my name. >> All right. >> I'm in trouble. What I did? >> No. >> I That's why we were trying to figure some stuff out. Here's my Just call me Joey. Okay. And um I know that one of the main things you you first was worried about is is we learned that you're on probation. I ain't worried about not listen to me. I ain't worried about your your your probation. Okay? I'm not here to be VOP you. >> All right? So, but going through the stipulations of your uh of your probation. You're supposed to cooperate with law enforcement and there's some stuff that I want to go over with you. Okay? But other than that, don't worry about the VO. I'm not here to VOP yet. >> All right. All right. So, I'm able to go home. >> We're going to work through that. All right. Cuz right now, you being they they charged you with uh resistant arrest. >> No, they shitty >> because Right. That's what we're figuring out now cuz I guess you ran. >> Yeah. >> Okay. All right. We're going to figure that out. All right. Um, let me get some basic information from you. What's your first name? >> Jakar. J A K R I. >> J A K A R I. >> All right. What's your last name? >> No, it's I thought R. >> Oh, like that. J A >> R. Yeah. >> Okay. And what's your last name? Webb. >> Webb. >> Yes. >> What are you? >> 19. >> 19. What's your What's your >> What school you go to? >> I go to school. I I graduated 2020. >> What um what school did you go to? >> Bon. >> Yeah. You play ball? >> Yeah, I play football. >> Nice. Nice. What's your phone number? What do you What do you work at? >> Go. >> That's right. >> I swear, man. I think you deliver furniture, man. >> Yes, I did. >> Just recently. >> Yes. >> Yeah, >> right. I [laughter] don't want to get in no trouble, >> man. How the hell did you get up in here, >> man? I was at I was on guard. I literally f to go home. I didn't know what was going on. So, I seen the truck come out. >> Scared the [ __ ] out of me. I know I ran. >> Well, listen. I'm going to talk to you about this this resistant arrest uh the running. You know what I mean? Cuz that's the main thing. And other than that, uh well, the VOP I'm not concerned about. We cool? >> Yes, sir. >> All right. >> All right. Look, obviously, since you're in custody, I got to read your rights. You understand that you have the right to remain silent. Anything you say may be uses evidence against you. You have the right to talk to an attorney and have him or her with you now or at any time during questioning. At if any point you wish to stop talking, have attorney present. All question will be stopped at your request. It's on you. You understand your rights? Okay, that in mind, you will not talk to me. >> Now, the detective attacks the story from another angle, location, and chronology. Web has already given multiple explanations about where he was, but the detective starts comparing those answers against what he knows about the area. When confronted about why he claimed the house and RV were connected to his family, Webb suddenly changes direction. He says he was coming from Soul City. Then admits he doesn't know why he was in that area. That uncertainty matters because the detective is forcing him to explain not only what he was doing, but why his movements don't match his story. The detective then uses a classic pressure patter. I can't help you unless you're honest with me. It gives Web an implied path out while simultaneously making his continued denial look increasingly costly. By the end of the segment, Web has moved from a definite explanation to I don't even remember. >> Why did So, talk to me. Talk to me. Is that a yes? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Do you Did you When you saw the police, what did you think immediately? >> I was like, "What the fuck?" Cuz I just seen this big ass truck come and he had he just had to stick out already. We all literally we all was scared as [ __ ] We ain't never been through nothing like that. So, but I just ran cuz I was like, "What the fuck?" I was just scared. Like, I ain't never been in a situation like that. You don't get in trouble or nothing. And then I'm on probation. I was scared. So, I just ran around the house. I just literally walked out of the house actually. And then that's when y'all then that's when they came. Then I ran around the house. Then it was on the back street. So, they said stop and get on the ground. So, I stopped and got on the ground. Dude came and jumped on me. So, I was hop by that. >> Okay. All right. So, So that's why you ran? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Scared. >> You were just scared? >> Hell yeah. Okay. I have big ass guns. >> I ain't never seen that [ __ ] like that. >> I ain't going to lie. >> Yeah. Where where you from originally though? >> Dayton. >> Daytona. >> Yeah. >> What What middle school did you go to? >> Campbell. >> You went to Campbell. >> Campbell. Holly Hill Creek Shop. >> Okay. And then you went to Mainland. >> I went to Sean Creek then. >> Oh my jeez. >> All these schools. So, where you stay? Where where you live at now? >> With my dad. You know where the auto's on? >> Uh near near Parkway. >> Yeah. >> Okay. Yeah. >> Partly. I stay on Park. >> Oh, Bartley. Okay. What's the address? >> How long you stay with your daddy? >> Yeah. >> What's his name? >> Alphonso Griffin. >> Alfonso. Griffin. Which house is that? >> The black and white one. Like towards the end. >> Towards the end of the road. Yeah. Yeah. Um, you getting along with your dad? >> Yeah. Yeah. He really was mad, too. He was He was at the scene. He was mad cuz he know I was trying to violate. He know that why I learn. He told the police. >> Okay. Okay. What's a What's a good email address for you? >> Um, I got to make a new one. I lost one. I ain't really >> This is the communicate uh show with you. I already know. I got to make a new one. >> What? What's What's the old one? the phone numbers. >> No, that's >> Is this the one that's registered with um probation? >> Yes. >> Okay. All right. And is this the address that's registered with probation? >> Yes. >> And the email address? >> Yes. >> All right. All right. And how long have you been staying at uh Barkley for with your dad? >> Since like 2015. Oh, for a hot minute. >> Okay. All right. What What are you doing for uh for Rooms to Go? Are you just humping the furniture and and delivering it? >> Yeah, >> that's what it is. Years ago, I used to work at Mayflower. >> You ever That's a moving company. >> I ain't doing that. >> But it was basically the same thing. >> And they work they work >> Yeah. Yeah. I got worked in the morning, but I don't know if I'm going to be able to make it. >> Yeah. They work you to death and and they think the straps are going to are going to save your back. Um but yeah, I did that. It was uh terrible. Terrible. Are they making you uh are they paying you good? >> Yeah, we get paid every day. >> What? You work for a uh subcontractor for them? >> Yeah. >> Okay. All right. So, how much are you making an hour over there? >> No, we just make a hundred a day and then we just go out and work and then whenever we're done, we're done with the trucks. >> Just 100 bucks a day. >> Yeah. >> How many hours you working? >> [ __ ] That [ __ ] be long. Be like from like 7:00 in the morning to like I got off like 6:30 at night. Well, um, just curious, who do you hang out with locally here? Who do you hang out with? Who are some of your friends? >> My brother RJ. >> Mhm. >> A lot of people. My dog Jerry >> and Jerry. >> Yeah. [ __ ] He only hang with people. I stay in my shop. >> I got you. I got you. Do you Do you own a car? No, not yet. >> Do you have a license? >> It's suspended. So, I ain't been driving >> for what? >> Ticket. I had went to jail. I just got out in May. So, I had to pay I got to keep working and pay my ticket off. >> Mhm. >> Suspended right now. So, I ain't been driving. >> All right. One of the strongest evidence pressure moments in the entire interrogation. The detective stops relying on general accusations and begins giving Web specific details. the bike, the beach cruiser, the time, and the locations captured by cameras. Web's response becomes noticeably defensive. Instead of building a coherent alternative timeline, he repeatedly says he doesn't know what the detective is talking about. The detective then tells him that cameras captured his movements across the city and that he knows where Web eventually dumped the bike. Psychologically, the important element is the loss of uncertainty. Earlier, Webb could hide behind I don't remember. Now, the detective is supplying concrete external facts. The conversation becomes less about whether Web was there and more about what he was doing while >> Okay. And what and who was wrong >> in the dinner? >> Oh, in the in the back there. >> Yeah. >> Okay. All right. Do you remember what you all what you ate that day? Wednesday night for dinner. >> I probably eat I don't eat like that. I ain't going to lie to you. >> No, I won't be eating like that. >> You and R.J. didn't grab anything. All right. Who else was at the house? >> Uh, grandma. That was literally it. >> Oh, yeah. Everybody that stayed, I'm tripping. Everybody that stayed there, grandma was there. >> Okay. All right. And did you And so you stayed there the whole day. You didn't go anywhere. Y'all just kind of played games and stuff like that. >> Yeah. Y'all be chilling. >> All right. [clears throat] Stand. >> Okay. All right. When you're there, since you don't have a license, how do you travel around? >> Walk. >> You walk everywhere. I >> ride the bike. Yeah. >> Whose bike do you ride? >> She ride sh bike is a friend in the family. >> Who? >> Sh. Her name is Sh. >> Okay. >> I ride her bike. >> What bike? What What does that bike look like? >> It's a beach cruiser. It's light gray with black handlebars. >> Okay. Anything does it have anything else cool to it? Where's that bike located at? >> It's in the Jeep. Is that is that on garden at the house? >> Okay. Does it have um I saw a few bikes out there? I don't know. Yeah. Is it the one with the basket? It has a thing on the back. >> Has a basket in the front. >> I don't remember. >> You remember? >> Just Just a beach cruiser. >> Yeah. >> The the dark color beach cruiser. >> Yeah. No, the gray one. >> The gray one. >> Yeah. >> All right. When When's the last time you used that beach cruiser? >> Today. >> Where'd you go to? >> To the stone. Which >> down the street? The red one down the street. >> What? >> The corn store down the street. >> The red one? >> Yeah, the red store. >> Where's that at? >> It's down the street from car right by the car wash. >> Oh, okay. Gotcha. Gotcha. Okay. Which which which uh bike did you use? >> Oh, yeah. I used the gray one. >> The gray one still. Okay. Do have you ever used that bike prior to this? >> Prior to today? Did you use any Did you travel by any bicycle on on Wednesday? >> No. Okay. All right. So, Dari, I'm going to be straight up with you. All right. I'm not here to violate you. All right. But I but I also I'm always willing to give people breaks. Last thing I want to do is see you jammed up with your probation officer because listen to me and I mean this, okay? You're 19. All right. I'm not trying to see you go and, you know, deal with [ __ ] through your through your probation officer because you ran away. >> Do you feel me? >> I'm not that person. But you have to work with me and understand the moment you're not honest with me is the moment my relationship with you goes downhill. Okay? I I respect you. I respect you and I tell you the truth. Okay? Whether it's whether it's going to hurt your feelings or not, I'll tell you the truth. Is that fair? >> Yeah. >> Okay. But I expect the same the same from you. >> Okay. >> Deal. >> Yeah. >> Okay. And I mean that. I'll help you as much as I can. >> All right. Thank you. >> All right. But you cannot do me. You cannot lie to me. >> No lie to you. >> Okay. All right. So, >> what happened? You >> What's up? >> You What happened? Well, I know you're a good I know you're a good kid. I know this. Okay. But there's been a string of of car breaks and burglaries and everything else and get ring. So, we get ring camera footage and when something suspicious happens, >> we know who we obviously we know this is you. It's clear as day, right? >> So, I'm asking you that. Were you trying to break into this house? >> I know. I promise to god I'm not cuz my my mom stay in that trailer. I ain't trying to break in. I run around it. I know I was trying to break in that house. >> You promise? >> I promise to God. I promise. >> You try to break in this house. >> Then web slips. One early lie, one bad answer, and the detective doesn't argue. He simply goes and grabs the surveillance footage. That's the moment the heir changes because Webb knows what this means. If they've got him on video, they've got the timeline. And now he has to talk his way out of something he can't erase. >> Hell no. I promise. Hell no. That's my mama trailer right there. She stay in that trailer. >> All right. >> I swear to God. Well, I didn't make contact with somebody in the trailer. So, I like I said, I haven't made contact with any of those people. >> All right. Hell no. I ain't never tire I would never do nothing like that. That's my people. That's my family. I trusted my daughter. I promise to go. No. >> Okay. >> I never lie. >> Okay. >> I won't even be doing I can't do no dumb [ __ ] like that. That's just childish. That's why I work. I ain't got to steal from nobody. Just get my own money. >> Okay. What were you doing out there? What I mean did What were you doing out there running around? >> I wasn't running around. >> I don't know. I I was just probably passing by. >> I don't know. >> Do you remember? You remember the You know the time on that, right? >> That's early. >> I know the time. >> But I'm saying that's damn near 2:00 in the morning. I don't want to break this [ __ ] though. I'm probably walking somewhere. >> All right. What's your mom's phone? >> What's your mom's name? >> Tiana Griffin. Well, >> well, we have to ask that question because it's you you got we we're getting footage of of you running up behind a a house, an RV, >> right? That's where my mama stay. So, I don't want to break into nothing like that. >> Okay. >> What What were you doing before that? We were playing basketball. That's all. That's all we were doing. We were playing basketball. That's all I remember. Whatever we were doing, we really doing too much. I don't know why I run from that. I probably getting a basketball or something. I know I won't break in nobody's house though. I know I was doing nothing. I promise you. Break into people house. I know. I know. >> I have kids your age. I have five kids. >> Okay. You were young. >> I ain't done. I promise. >> Listen to me. You have your whole life ahead of you. >> Do you understand that? >> Yeah. >> Sometimes we make mistakes. Sometimes we do. We do things that we regret. Okay. Sometimes that happens cuz we're human. You're young. We make mistakes. You feel me? >> The detective now combines evidence with emotional pressure. He tells Webb that the entire incident was captured and repeatedly emphasizes that he wants to help him, but only if Web stops lying. This is a significant psychological transition. The detective isn't simply saying, "We know you did it." He's presenting Web with a choice. Continue denying everything or explain his side before the detective decides what the evidence means. Web remains resistant, repeatedly saying, "The detective is talking about something that makes no sense." But the detective keeps narrowing the conversation toward one question. Why? That question is strategically important because it assumes the physical evidence is already established. The detective is trying to move Web mentally from I didn't do anything toward okay, here's why it happened. Remember >> what I told you? Be honest with me. >> I am. I don't have no reason to look. >> That's at 752 South Carolina, right next to Belleview. >> It's pretty south side. >> It's on the south side >> by Soul City where my auntie stay. >> Soul City, not by Garden. >> Well, that's my auntie stay on over there. >> Okay. >> And I was at her house. >> Okay. >> Too. >> Okay. I have no reason. I promise you. >> I promise you. I don't have no reason to lie right by now. >> Jakari, you don't have a reason to lie. >> I don't. >> Now tell me this. >> Why did you just tell me? Why did you just tell me that that that house in that RV is your family when I know it's not? >> I thought that was my auntie Sean. Yeah. >> Then why would you run up there? Why would you hide behind there? Why would you run up there? >> I ain't hide nowhere. I was coming from Soul City. So say the other way, >> bro. I was I don't even know why I was over there to be real. Wait, what did you talking about? Belle? >> Yeah. >> I don't know why I was over there. I don't even remember you being over there. >> I think you do. >> I don't. >> Hey, >> I'm not lying. >> I know. Listen to me. I can't help you. I can't help you if you're not straight up with me. >> I'm not. She crying. She crying. Listen to me. >> No, Jakari. >> I can't help you if you if if you don't tell me the truth. >> I'm not lying about nothing. But okay. >> But okay. What? >> I'm not lying about nothing. >> I don't know. I don't mean be >> What did you do? What did you do prior to this? Pri prior to that video, what did you do? I >> didn't do nothing. >> What were you doing? I don't remember. I probably coming from that gas station getting something to drink. >> What gas station? >> Sokco. >> You read at the Sinoco? >> Yes. >> Okay. What were you doing there? >> Getting on the drink. It was hot. >> Okay. >> You see I got my shirt off. >> I do see I do see that you have your shirt off. >> What else? >> Bro, that was it. I promise to God. Then I went back to the other side of town by where I stayed. >> How did you get to the other side of town? >> I walked. How else am I going to get there? >> I promise, bro. Got no reason to walk. Nothing. >> Hey, you car lot. Hey, I just want to be straight up with you. >> I know what you did. >> What? I ain't do nothing. >> I know. I know everything. >> I ain't do nothing. >> Jakari. >> Hey, Jakari. >> Yes. >> I know everything. >> I didn't do nothing. It tears me apart watching young young young men and women destroy their life over bad decisions over bad choices. >> Bro, I know I know exactly what you did. >> Bro, what I did? Cuz I didn't do nothing, bro. I promise I didn't. Bro, I'm really here for no reason, bro. >> Talk to me like a man. I told you I didn't do nothing, bro. >> What? >> What did you do before this? Before Before that video? What did you do? Where were you running from? >> Bro, I was at the store. >> I saw where you were running from. Jakari. >> Jakari. >> I didn't do nothing. I'm telling you straight up. I don't believe you. >> Jakari, how did you get over there? >> What? >> From where, >> bro? From the south side. I was on in Soul City. >> Oh, she had crazy, bro. >> You think I'm just joking, bro? Hey, Jakard. Because I know >> nothing about, you know, >> I know it all. I know it all. >> I know that you rode your bike. I know you rode a bike over Jakari. I didn't know. I know. Look at me. I know you wrote the beach cruiser from Garden. at 12:50 a.m. >> I test or >> No, no, no. >> And then I guess what? >> What? >> And then I see you again. I see you travel all throughout the city. >> I'm listening. >> Please don't do this to yourself. I'm begging you. Don't do this. I'm here for a reason and I can help you. >> This is the interrogation's first major breakthrough. After extended denial, Webb finally changes his position. The detective repeatedly asks whether the victim attacked him and Webb eventually says he was attacked. Then comes the crucial statement. It was an accident. That single shift dramatically changes the interrogation. Webb is no longer claiming that nothing happened. He is now offering a framework for explaining the shooting. The detective immediately accepts the new narrative rather than attacking it. He asks about the knife, why they met their relationship, and finally what happened during the encounter. Web says the victim tried to stab him and then admits that he shot him. Notice the progression. Denial, attack, claim, self-defense, shooting, admission. The detective's calm reaction makes it easier for Web to continue talking rather than immediately retreating back into denial. >> But if you if you're not truthful with me, I can't help you. I I saw you. I saw you on Campbell Campbell Middle School. I saw you. I saw you. I saw you at Forest Glenn. I saw it all. >> The [ __ ] is for me? >> Yeah. >> I don't know what that did. I don't know what's coming up. >> You don't like through there. >> Hey, >> nothing. >> Hey, this is your opportunity to tell me >> your story. >> I didn't do nothing. >> Your story. >> I rode the bike through there to go through the to the store, bro. But I see we have cameras everywhere. >> All right, >> Jakari, I see where you where you dumped the bike. I know who you were talking to. I know everything. >> Oh, no, no, no. Don't do that. Don't do that to me. I told you I would respect you and help you as much as possible. Okay, but the moment you you start lying to me, I cannot convince anyone that it was an accident. I can't convince anyone that it was an accident right now. Right now, it's going based on you being dishonest. I've got video. I've got it all. The whole thing was captured on video. Every bit of this. What? >> Jakari, >> I'm here for running, bro. I don't know what you're talking about. This is crazy, bro. I'm a supposed to bear. I saw nothing. Jakari, I saw who you met up with that night. >> I didn't even know. >> Look at me. I saw it. We saw it. >> Nobody. That's crazy trying to sit here. Say this, bro. >> We saw it. I just want to know why. >> Do nothing. >> Bro, that's crazy, bro. He trying to sit and sit here and what that I'm trying to reach out to you. Listen to me. I'm trying to reach out to you. I'm trying to reach out to you and help you as much as possible. But but you can't do this to me. You can't do this to me. You can't sit here and and and lie and lie and lie and expect me to help you. I can't help you that way. I know what you did and I saw it. I have it everywhere. I could tell you everything you've done. Everything you've done that night. I can tell you what you've done, but the but here's here's here's what I need to know. Why? I just want to know why. Was it a Was it an argument? Was it a mistake? What was it? What was it? >> I don't know what you're talking about, but that's what I'm saying. That makes no sense. I can't help you if you don't tell me your side of the story. I can't help you. >> I don't know what you did, >> Jakari. I have you on video. Okay, I there's video. I can tell you everything that you did. I can tell you your inst your you I I have search warrants on Instagram. I have Instagram. I have your Instagram accounts. >> Oh, I know. Listen, the ones that you delete. I have it all. >> That tells me everything. who you are. How do you think we are here? Why are we here? >> Because Jakari >> Jakari, look at me. Respect me enough to look at me like I do you. >> Please. >> Hey, just tell me why. Why? Why? Why did he attack you? Did he attack you? What is your story? I know it's scary right now, but don't be scared. I'm here with you. I need to know your side. I'm here to help you. I need to know your side. Did he attack you? He's a violent person. Did he attack you? Stop. I know you're scared, but don't be. I'm here to help you, but I I have I know everything. I just want to know why. What happened? We're past that. We're past that. >> Jakari attack me. >> Jakari, we're past that. >> He attacked me. >> What happened? >> He attacked me, bro. >> They tapped you. >> He attacked me. Like he said, >> he attacked you. >> After Web gives the self-defense explanation, the detective asks for one thing that can independently test the story, the gun. Webb initially struggles with the location and gives conflicting answers about where he threw it. He first identifies one location, immediately corrects himself, then says he can go find it. The detective uses that uncertainty to frame cooperation as evidence of good faith if Web really acted in self-defense. Locating the weapon could support his account. Eventually, Webb gives a specific location underneath the basketball hoop on Garden Street. The psychological significance is huge. Earlier, Webb was fighting the existence of the crime itself. Now he's providing investigators with physical evidence connected to the shooting. The interrogation has moved from I didn't do anything to here's where the weapon is. His later statement that he defended himself also shows that he has now psychologically committed himself to the self-defense narrative. Hey, we're going to work through this. Okay. All right. I just need to get your story. Okay. All right. Bubbles. I'll be right back. Okay. >> Ain't going to be able to go home. >> I'm going to work on that for you. Okay. >> Please. >> Okay. I'm going work on that for you. >> I got to call my wife real quick. >> Hey. Okay. Hey, hey, hey. Hey, that's okay. Hey, that's okay. It's okay. It's okay. >> It's okay. Hey, I promise you it's okay. Tell me your Tell me your story. I know he's violent. I'm I'm aware of this. I just don't know why. What the >> Why you tried to kill me first? >> How? With a knife. >> He had a knife. So, you're protecting yourself? >> Yes. Okay. Why did y'all meet up? >> Cuz he wanted to see me. >> He wanted to see you. Okay. All right. Did you have a relationship with him? >> No, not like that. >> What type of relationship was it? >> No, he was like a friend. >> Was he trying to get too close to you or something? >> No, I ain't with that. >> And then what was the conversation when you met him? So, where exactly >> did you go? >> Oh, my house. I don't know. Where did I go? >> Try to think, man. I'm trying. I'm telling you. It's going to benefit you. >> I did. Where is it? >> We got a gun at guard at Garden Street underneath the basketball hoop. >> Yeah, that's it. >> Is that the gun? >> Okay. All right. That's the one you used. Okay, no problem. All right. All right. Do you want something to drink? You hungry or anything? How you feel right now? How you feeling? >> [ __ ] Like I don't know how to feel. I don't know what I'm thinking. You know what? Really? >> Okay. All right. All right. Let me let me get some paperwork uh done. So, I need to um I need to take a a a buckle swab. It's a uh it's uh little swabs on your cheeks right here. You are you okay with us taking that? >> Yeah. >> Okay. All right. I'll be right back. >> Go ahead. >> I'm trying. I'm trying to get you there. All right. >> Please try to work. >> All right. All right. When you when when he tried to stab you, what happened to the knife? Did you Did you take it? >> Yeah. >> You took the knife? >> Okay. >> So, let me tell you what I learned. >> All right. So, why did you create a Instagram account? [ __ ] you 2x. this account that I had on the side. >> Okay. Okay. So, I have all your messages between you two. Why would you bring a gun >> to meet him? >> He was great. I know his past crazy. >> But this is had but this is someone you'd never met. You >> didn't meet him before. He's never met you. >> No, he thought I was somebody else and didn't see me and tried to kill me. Everybody was >> Who did Who did you pretend to be? >> Somebody named Mario. That was >> You mean Trey? I'll tell you what. >> So, you're on felony probation and you're carrying a gun to meet another person. >> That's the only time though I want I don't always >> But why did you always want to come hang out with him? You were talking to him in a very And by the way, I'm not I'm not judging you by any means. This is preference. But did you like him? >> And that's okay. >> No, I didn't. >> That's okay. >> Mhm. >> Hey, we're out here now. We're out here. Mhm. >> Just so you know, you know, you know, >> my my my son my son >> Oh, I'm not gay. >> My son's attracted to boys, and I'm okay with that. It is what it is, >> you know, and one of my daughters is attracted to to to women. >> I'm not attracted to boys, though. >> So, why would you talk to him like this? This is very uh very sexual in nature at some point. >> It's just somebody I knew. And then when I seen him, he seen me and he tried to kill me cuz I wasn't who that was. I'm trying to carry him. The video didn't show him. The video of you shooting him. I have it. And the video of of him with a knife. That's not there. I see it. Are >> you trying to kill me? >> When you when you were hiding, you you bent down at the hill when you when you When you kneel down in the where that hill is and he comes around, we saw that. >> Okay. You didn't have a knife. We see it 100%. >> I know he has something in his hand, though. I'm not tripping. >> Okay. But you just you just told me that you took the knife, which I know is is a lie. >> This section moves beyond the shooting itself and into motive. The detective returns to the knife story, then immediately pivots to Web's Instagram activity. Webb says the account was simply something he had on the side, but the detective tells him he has the messages between Web and the victim. Then comes the uncomfortable question, why bring a gun to meet someone you supposedly barely knew? Webb says the victim was dangerous and that he knew his past. But the detective points out the contradiction. If they had never met, why was Web communicating with him and arranging the meeting? Webb eventually explains that he was pretending to be someone else. Trey, that revelation changes the context of the entire meeting. The detective now has a reason to question not only what happened during the encounter, but why Web deliberately created the circumstances that brought them together. >> I just want to know why. Why? We're here. It's you, you and me. We're out here. Everything is in the open now. Everything is on the table. You and I are being honest. You and I are talking. >> Cuz I felt like he didn't care about my life. >> He didn't. You felt like he didn't care about your life. >> Yes. >> Did And by the way, did you did you secretly like him? >> No. >> And that's okay. >> That's what I'm saying. I didn't at all. I don't get why he tried me. He tried me before. But he didn't know who you were. He thought you were a guy named Trey Rodriguez. Oh, >> cuz I didn't want to make it sh. That's all that was. >> But why? Why would you do that? >> Cuz if you were new with me, he really would have killed me. Cuz you know I wasn't like that. >> But But why would you meet him? H >> Why would you meet up with him? You had every opportunity not to and you >> I know I still did. I don't know. Like I wasn't thinking. >> Okay. All right. So, I mean, he didn't even How I mean, what do you think the distance was between you and him before you you shot him? >> I don't remember. Not within 10 ft. >> I don't remember. >> I wasn't going down. That's crazy. Try before now. He what? >> Tried to hurt me before. >> But he's never met you. >> He has met me. >> How? >> He knew me from Instagram. He didn't met me like two years ago. >> Okay. Okay. Did you guys have a a friendship then? >> Oh, we had no friendship. He thought I was on it and I wasn't. He ain't try to understand that >> from two years ago >> to now. So why would you why would you do what you did to him from two years later? >> It was from two years ago to now. Why? >> Because you created this account in February. I did. >> I don't remember creating an account. >> But you talked to him as as another person since February for the past five months. >> I didn't know that. I went I didn't know that. That's true. I didn't know that I had that account for that, man. >> But you were talking to him. >> Yeah. >> But but like I guess I guess what I'm asking, man, I guess what I'm asking is what were you trying to get out of it? Like what you you created an account that you you reached out to him first and we see the conversations and we see everything. Why would you do that? cuz I'm not on that. Like I don't want nobody think I'm on that. >> Nobody's going to think anything. This is just you and me talking at this point. >> Hey, and if you're curious, it's okay. We're all human. >> Actually, >> hey, it's okay. I mean that my son loves who he loves and my my daughter loves who she loves. By the way, sometimes we have things in that goes on in ourselves that we want to experiment. We want to experience. I'm okay with that. I I can tell I can tell you this from my experience with my own kids and my own experience with this with this job. I can tell you that I think you did I think you did want more than a relationship with him. I think you did. And I think that you weren't too sure because you you weren't too sure because of your friends and other people you hang out with would not approve of this. That's what I think. And I think that your emotions your emotions got to you the night that morning of and you didn't know how to react. try to try me on Instagram like I would like like like I like what was happening at all. That's the reason why like that. >> You did that on your real Instagram account >> and people like was believing and [ __ ] >> He was what >> people was believing it like I was gay or something and I roll like that and it just had me mad me up inside. >> And was that on your real personal account? >> You got to delete it though. >> Okay. And then you felt like this is like to get him back to start this account. >> It was an accident. >> It was an accident. Okay. >> You didn't me do it. That's okay. That's all right. Jakari, this is Officer Sal Jennan. He's going to take the uh the swab from you. So, we're almost done and then um he's going to take some photos of it. I >> think he's right for a second. >> I'm sorry. >> People's inside mouth, right? So you guys haven't got to do one with dinner yet. >> Yeah. Yeah. You just when he opens his mouth, you just do one side. Take two of them like this. And then take another two like this and then stick them in in the box. I mean you >> I only got one set for so one and one. >> Um you can do one and one. That's fine. I always do two and two. So and these things ain't All right. He's going to Do you have anything in your mouth? All right. SW the inside cheekbud. >> Which side was that? >> That was what side? Yes, you want to write on that. >> Make sure you know which one's which. some pictures. >> Stand up. >> All right. face. You stick your hands out like this. Spread them out like this. There you go. Folks the opposite direction. You go back down. Turn around for me. You mind just straighten your feet out? All right, you probably take your shoes off. Pictures downstairs. Who do you want? I'm going to let you call your dad or mom. Who do you want to call? Mom. >> Your mom. All right. Just I'm letting you talk to her. Hello, Mom. Huh? Huh? I'm trying to say I kill somebody. I didn't talk, man. He's trying to put put a murder on me. Exactly. The final psychological turn comes when the detective stops focusing purely on the shooting and begins exploring what motivated Web to create the Instagram account in the first place. Webb initially says he didn't know about the account, but the detective points out that the messages show Web communicating with the victim for months. Then the detective offers an interpretation. Perhaps Webb was struggling with how other people would perceive him and perhaps the online interaction became emotionally charged. Webb finally explains that people were believing he was gay and that the situation was eating at him internally. This is important because the interrogation has now moved far beyond the original denial. The detective has gradually taken web from I did nothing to to I was attacked then to I shot him and finally toward the emotional circumstances surrounding why the encounter happened at all. The repeated phrase, "It was an accident," near the end also shows Web trying to preserve the self-defense framework while the detective continues examining the events that led up to the confrontation.
