Go smoke. >> Yeah. Give me just >> I'm not going nowhere. Y'all kind of gated in out there for God's sake. I know. >> But I haven't done nothing. >> Give me just a second. Okay. [clears throat] >> Okay. You can get it back in a second. >> I never called you a chrome. I just p >> [laughter] >> If you take me, I'll just move. >> Okay. Give me one second. All right. One second. >> Now, this is just standard procedure. I'm going have to read your Miranda rights cuz I'm going be asking you questions and stuff like that. Okay. You're not under arrest or anything like that. Okay. Um, this is your Miranda form. Uh, it says you have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can will be used against you in a court of law. If you have the right to talk to a lawyer for advice before we ask you any questions, have one present present during questioning. If you cannot afford a lawyer, won't be appointed for you before any questions or if you wish. If you want to answer questions now, the lawyer to stop at any time until you talk to a lawyer. Uh, I have un I have read and understand. Uh, I understand what I'm doing. No promises, threats, coercion, uh, of any kind has been made towards me. I'll get you to initial in these five blanks here. And then if you want to talk to me, you'll just initial here, print your name and sign there. Okay? And like I said, you're not under arrest. This is a process of elimination. I mean, you're in bed, you know. Okay. So, I just miss all these. >> Yeah. Then I read those to you and you understand them. >> So, you know what their accesses do to a person? >> Mhm. >> It puts them like >> Yes, ma'am. And right here, >> you tell me this one. It says, "I want to remain silent." >> Okay. >> I don't want to. >> And if I do not, I do not want the help of a lawyer. >> Am I going to need an attorney? The conversation still feels controlled, but the investigator is quietly finding pieces that may not fit. The phone, the gun, and her story are beginning to point in different directions. She keeps answering calmly, but the questioning is starting to move somewhere much more specific. You're not you're not under arrest. >> Well, we're just taking a statement from you because you're the wife. >> Okay. >> Okay. So, this one here says, "I do not want the help of a lawyer at this time and I'm willing to make statements." So, you just put your initials if that's what you want to do and then print your name there. And it's 9:07 and today's the 23rd, March 23rd. This is Angela Wilty. This is her interrogation. Every answer matters. Every hesitation tells us something. Watch closely. >> At 7:30, he was laying down. He went to AutoZone. That's where he went last night cuz I had uh the guy that I work for out of Florida. He's in town and he came over and him and John took a ride to check out the truck cuz we've been having some issues with the front end of the truck, >> the Nissan. >> Mhm. >> Okay. >> And we've spent like $800 or $900 in uh wheel bearings and control arms and all that. So, we got into it and I told him, I was like, "John, why do you want to keep spending money? have somebody look at it from him cuz him and I can't work on a vehicle together. I know a lot about vehicles, but he knows more. Love the man to death. So, I told him, I was like, "Hun, why don't you either take it to the shop, pay $75 and let them look at it or have somebody to look at it and give you an idea what's going on instead of just replacing and keep replacing stuff that doesn't really need to be replaced." He was like, "Well, I don't know anybody." The guy that was supposed to come and help me never showed up. >> So, who's what's your boss from Florida's name? N. Everybody calls him Shavei, but his name is Niss. N I S I N. >> N I S I M. >> Beni. >> Spell that again. >> V E N. It's a capital A V I. And um >> Do you have his phone number in your phone? >> Uhhuh. It's 631. And where does he stay when he comes in town? >> He has an RV, so he stays out off of uh Wro at the agricultural park over there. But he came over and he's the one helping me with my vet, getting the [clears throat] doors to where they'll open and all that. And I was like, "Well, John, look, Shabby's here. Why don't y'all take a ride in the truck, let him drive it, and because when we're not working on houses, he's in Florida working on cars." Mhm. >> They got a shop over there. And uh I was like, "Maybe he can help you figure out what's wrong with it." So they drove, they took I don't know where they went. They took a ride, come back, and I was like, "Well, what' you come up with?" And John's like some I'm not sure if it was a control arm or what that he hadn't changed. So he goes to AutoZone. And I don't know if the parts are in the truck or what, but he supposedly went up the parts. And I asked him, I was like, "Were you going to fix it?" He says, "No, I'm tired. I've been at work since 4 this morning or something." Cuz he got call outs, >> right? >> Sometimes he'll leave the house at 12, 1:00 in the morning. What what does he do there? >> He's the maintenance man. If um a pump or agitator belt or augur, anything goes out, they call him in. He's like one of their top guys there. He's been out there for I want to say something like 23 24 years. His base income, this tell you how much he gets called out. His base income is around 55 a year. Last year he made 108. So he call he gets called out a lot. >> Right. >> His normal 40hour paycheck bring home would be like six. >> That's good. >> But with all the call outs it's like 12 13400 a week. and he fusses at me because I work a lot, but I like to save money because you never know what's going to happen. >> That's the way I've always been taught. >> And is your car paid for? >> Yes. >> What about his truck? >> No, we just got that truck. >> Where'd he buy it at? >> It's like it's not brand new, right? >> It's a piece of crap. We bought that truck and I told him after a month, "Honey, I think we messed up. cuz it's been nothing but problems. I even tried to get them to take it back and give me my car I traded in. >> So yesterday when he got home, you got home at about whatever time >> I picked up. I picked Kate up. This is going to bother me. Do you have a text from Kate? >> I'm going to ask her. Who picked you up from school yesterday, baby? Dad picked you up. All right. And did y'all come straight home after that? Okay. Okay. And then after you got we got you got home, that's when me and you went to Walmart. >> Okay. Okay, baby. All right. I'll call you back soon. I love you. Bye, baby. All right. So, now I took my heart to get her stuff for her project. Okay. And did you and him argue at any point yesterday? Were y'all arguing, fussing? We have arguments like every other normal couple. >> Mhm. Because we work a lot. We have a lot of debt over our head. We're just now getting where we can see above water. >> And he likes, like I said, he likes to shop, but he likes to do his own thing, too. >> Right. Um, so yeah, we had we had a one of our normal arguments. >> And what was that? >> Over money. >> Financial argument. >> Yeah. Cuz he likes he wants a car. He don't like the truck. and we can't get another car because when his other car got stolen before he came back to me, his car got stolen and we had to get that one paid off. Insurance didn't pay for it. >> He had just had it. He got it like that December. He made the the down payment in December cuz he had totaled his previous truck. So what he got back on the truck, he put money down on the car and the being that I guess the blue book value of the car, he gave more than what it was really worth and the insurance paid a good bit of it. We still owed a few thousand on it. That was in the last year and a half. tried to clear up all his debt that he got into while he wasn't with me. >> Okay. And you said y'all broke up when? >> Uh 2015. We had a big fight. It was August 20th. >> The conversation still feels controlled, but the investigator is quietly finding pieces that may not fit. The phone, the gun, and her story are beginning to point in different directions. She keeps answering calmly, but the questioning is starting to move somewhere much more specific. >> John never drinks hard liquor. He's not a drinker. I've got four Bud Lights has been in my refrigerator for probably a year. >> Mhm. >> He doesn't drink. >> Okay. He He never drinks. >> He hasn't drank anything since he's been back. He might have drank two. There was a six-pack. He won periodically but not a drinker. >> But on August 21st, he was drinking Jagger. >> Yeah. >> Where did y'all live then? >> We weren't together. >> Okay. >> We were living separately. He lived in an apartment. I lived at the house and he called me over to the apartment. He had been drinking. We had had a big fight prior to the incident and he beat the out of me. So, you went over to the apartment, y'all got into a fight, >> and then and then he beat you up, and then what happened? >> He went to jail. >> You called police? >> No, I didn't. I wasn't able to call the police. He was trying to kill me. He told me >> somebody else called. >> My son did. My 18-year-old. >> Was he with you? >> Yeah, he was driving. I wouldn't drive that night cuz I've had like two marinols and I'm not going to drink and drive. >> Okay. And I I told him, "John, I don't need to come over there cuz it sounds like you're upset." So, we ended up We've gotten through all that. We've got fine. Well, he had fines to pay. He's on probation. We moved past all that after him and Diaz split up. He came back home. So, what pharmacy do you live in? Oh, god. I don't even know the names of them. I know it was off of um Houston. You go down Winchester. You go down cross to Winchester, take a right, and it's an apartment down off of that road. Um I can look it up if it's fine. That's one of his. He's only had three addresses in the last. So when y >> 15 years I guess when y'all separated in 2015, do you remember what month it was cuz in August y'all he got arrested. So was it a couple of months before that or couple I mean January, February, March? Do you remember? Where were they at Christmas? 14. He totled his truck in 15, April. Trying to think if the kids are out of school. Sometimes March, April We were just getting through all that me well from the from him beating me up. >> But he wasn't he wasn't living at home then. He was in the apartment. >> So you went up there. Y'all both had been drinking. He beat you up real bad. Your son called 911. Memphis showed up. He got arrested and he's still doing probation for that. Yeah, he's on probation for 1129 cuz they drugg it out, I guess, cuz of the court dates. And then I gave a friend a friend of mine, which was his roommate at the time. I gave him the money to go bail him out cuz they told me that things that I was a part of the case that I couldn't bail him out. >> So, who did you give the money to to bail him out? >> Kyle. >> Who's Kyle? >> A guy that he works with. Learn more. >> L A R I M O R E. >> Mhm. So Kyle, me, Kyle, and Kyle's dad, which is I don't know his name. I know it's Mr. Lmore. They all work out there at TMC. >> I went with them to uh get John well bail him out. >> Mhm. >> And uh I knew he wasn't going to want to see me, >> right? >> So I went back home. Kyle brought me back home. And then when John got out of jail after, you know, we paid the money to bail him out, he got out of jail. He never called none of us to pick him up. So I started worrying about him. I've always worried about him. Even when he was with crackhead, I was cuz he's a good person. >> Mhm. >> You know, just cuz me and him have our arguments, you know, he's a really good person. He He's not the total like family committed, but I'm tried. >> Has he had several marital? >> He's got six kids. >> During this 16-ear period y'all were together. >> No. >> Prior to y'all's married, >> he's got five before us. >> Okay. >> And then we had Caitlyn together. He's uh the doctors all the doctors told us when man went to the doctor one time he has um what they I guess they call it a sex addiction that some people can't control. >> So all those other kids are they by different women? He's got a set of twins that are 30 I'm 36. They're 5 years younger than me. So Denny's got a daughter. The twins are boys. >> Mhm. >> And how old are they? They're 5 years younger than me. >> So 31. >> 17 31. They were born in April. Oh god. >> And do y'all get along? You get along with his other kids? >> They don't ever call me. >> I mean, did they come to the house? Where do they live? >> I'm not 100%. I know Josh stays in Memphis somewhere. >> Mhm. I don't ever see his kids. I talk to his daughter that's in Louisiana. We Snapchat and I try to keep up with my kids, but Josh and Chris, they've never, you know, I guess cuz I was always so close to their age, they envied me being with their dad. >> What's their last name? >> Wily. >> That's the twins. >> Does he have any You got That's three. That's >> two besides Caitlyn. Yeah. His daughter in Louisiana, what's her name? >> Ashley. Her last name's Winger. W E N G E R. >> And then Crystal and her last name's Wily. And she's 21. >> Where she live? The girls live in Louisiana. >> They both live in Louisiana. >> Mhm. >> And the two the twin now Josh is supposedly being in Memphis somewhere. >> Okay. >> Um so Chris is the other twin. I don't know where he's at. John hasn't talked to him in a while. So >> then you got Ashley, Crystal, and then John Paul, which is the youngest boy. >> Where's he live? >> He's in Kentucky somewhere. >> Now the focus shifts from what she says to what her phone can prove. Deleted messages and phone records are much harder to explain away. And as the investigator follows, those records one particular person starts becoming increasingly important. And you can't sit here and tell me you don't. You know more than what you're telling me. >> I don't know anything as far as him getting hurt cuz I would never want to see him get hurt. I've always been there to protect him. >> Black and white don't lie. You hear me? Black and white don't lie. phone calls, cell phone locations. >> What's up, man? >> That means I can ping anywhere in this town and they will tell me what cell phone was in that location. >> Okay. >> In the location like this morning. >> Yeah. >> When I was asleep. >> Yeah. But you know who came over there? >> I don't. I swear I don't. You know I can pull all that off your phone. I've got it downloaded right now. Text messages, phone calls, conversations. >> I know. Shavei was supposed to come and wake me up this [clears throat] morning. >> What time was Shavei supposed to come wake you up? >> She was supposed to come over at 5:30. and wake me up. >> Wake you up for what? >> To go to work. Get up. Get my daughter. >> Why would he come over there and wake you up? >> Cuz that's him. That's what he does sometimes. >> You've been having an affair with him, has you? >> I swear I haven't. I've never slept with that man. >> You've been leading him on? >> Nope. We've talked. We've got a lot in common, but no, I'm not I'm not screwing around on my husband. >> Your text messages say differently. >> I know. It seems like we've had an affair. But >> you have had an affair with that man. >> I swear >> that man came over this morning and shot your husband, didn't he? >> Uh, no. I swear I don't know that. you call him and get him in here. But I don't even know that he ever came out there. I swear >> if he was supposed to be there at 5:00 this morning. >> I told him he could come over at 5:30 and ring my doorbell and wake me up. >> Why do you think your husband wanted to leave? >> I don't know. Cuz he found out you were having an affair. >> So why hadn't he talked to me? Why would he want to? He just wanted to leave. And your boyfriend shot him? >> I can't I don't know that. >> You don't know that? >> I swear I don't. I don't even know if Shelby owns the gun. >> How long you been seeing Shabby? >> I haven't been seeing Shabby. I've been working for Shabby. Shabi is the one came to my house last night and was working with my husband on the truck. >> Is this something you and him put together? What? >> You and Shavei, is this something you and him put together to get rid of your husband? >> No. >> I would have never never had someone to kill my husband. He is too good of a person for this. He could have had a better life. Nobody It's It's not worth killing somebody to be with somebody. It's not worth it. That's That's crazy. >> Have you led Shai to the point to where he thinks you were going to leave your husband to be with him? >> Shabby knew me and my husband were arguing and had some problems. Shabby talked to me. He tried to guide me a little bit, but we never slept together. >> How did What was he guiding you to? >> Telling me how cuz I'm I suck when it comes to words. I suck when it comes to trying to talk to somebody. >> What? by your text messages. You don't have You don't have a problem at all. >> I don't have a problem talking >> to other men. >> Wow. Yeah. >> Okay. You don't have a problem talking to other men. I mean, truth's truth, right? Right. It's >> in black and white. Can't lie about it. Did you walk outside and shoot your husband this morning? I was in bed. I was actually laid in the bed beside my husband at 10:36 when my daughter was coming out of the bathroom. I don't believe you. I'm reading your text messages. I don't believe you one bit. by reading your text messages. Grand jury ain't going to blame you either. I didn't ever hurt my husband. >> You know who did? >> Not like that. >> You know who did? >> I don't. >> How long have you and Shavei been talking? >> I've been working for Shavei since June. >> So y'all been talking since June. You've been leading him on since you hadn't been leading him on by your text messages. Different things. I love not when you talk to a man like that. What do you think it does to him? Woman to woman. If I talk to a man like you talk to Shave or Shavez, whatever his name is, that man's gonna think you want to be with him, right? I know I don't. >> But you don't talk like that to somebody. It puts them in a different frame of mind about you and them. And that's you know who shot the man. >> I don't. >> Your daughter is not going to have a mother >> because when I take your phone and all your phone records and his phone and all his phone records and present them to the grand jury, your daughter will finish school and graduate and get married and have children without her mother. cuz I'm put the hammer on you. >> I know why he does it. >> You can sit here and think about it for a few minutes and I'll be back in here. When you get ready to tell me the truth, I'll listen to you. But but when I when I take you down there and present you to the grand jury, your daughter will finish school without you. I can walk I can walk out now, right? >> No, >> I'm not under arrest. >> You're not leaving. >> I don't mean to be mean to you, okay? We just got to find out what's going on, okay? Because whoever shot him, he knew. [snorts] Whoever shot him approached him at the car and shot him. He ran ran screaming and yelling for help. He was shot twice in the chest and once in the head. Oh my god. And like I said, I don't want to be mean to you. >> Never in my life taking [clears throat] my husband away from my daughter like that. But would your would Chavez would do that? >> I don't believe he would do that. I honestly I don't believe he would do that. I honestly I know the man was scared to death and the man >> whoever >> scared of somebody had a gun pointing to me. >> He ran he ran through the yards out in the road back into the yards and was shot again. I would rather him leave me and split up than something like this happen to him. >> This is a terrible, terrible, unfortunate event. >> The investigator is no longer simply collecting information. He is testing how long she can defend her version of events. Shabi becomes central and every explanation creates another question. Slowly, the room starts giving her fewer places to hide. >> The guy that was in John's car actually hit me in my car. Well, I wasn't driving. John was driving my car and John pulled up in front of him and that dude hit us and pushed us out of the way and took off. >> So, who was that guy? >> I don't know. They never called him. >> White guy, black guy, more Mexican. >> You think it was somebody she deals with? um possibility, you know, all things are possible because John never cared about having money on him, like $200 or $300. He never cared about having a lot of money on him. He's like, "I'm okay. I'll have 20 bucks." And then he gets 200 and few days later he's broke. think he's giving it to death? >> I don't know. >> But it's possible. >> Or do you think he's just maybe buying more pain pills or something? >> It's cold. I'm sorry. My bones are freezing. I stay so cold. Let me go see if he's got the phone so we can come and see if Patricia can bring her up here, can't she? She got >> Yeah. Like I said, I got with John when I was 19 years old. >> Okay. >> He's kind of like the only man I really know. >> So you had these two boys with Michael. Were y'all married? >> I had Bradley with Michael. >> So who's Dylan? >> His daddy. >> Yeah. You said his last name was Casey. >> My last name was Casey when I had him. >> So who's his dad? Um, biologically Steve. >> Steve who? >> Jagger. >> Y E A >> Y A G U E U R. >> And where Steve live? >> Um, last I heard he lived in Berlesome, Tennessee. >> Is he a good character? I don't see it. And Bradley's dad's been arrested. What's Steve been arrested for? >> Oh, I don't know. I don't know if Steve's ever been arrested. Bradley's dad has Michael. He's staying out of jail, child support, and everything else. Now, Steve, I don't know much about his background, but I was young. I was 17 when I had Dylan. >> And how old were you when you had Casey? >> Bradley. I mean, Bradley >> 15. >> So, Michael was kind of like um high school boyfriend kind of. >> No, he was 24 when I was 15. My mom was a drunk. She didn't care. So, I had to get away from that lifestyle. >> And did you ever marry Michael? >> Mhm. >> So, how long did y'all stay married? Uh, we got married April 97 and I moved out, stayed with my uncle in March of 98. >> That didn't last long, did it? >> When did y'all divorce? >> I was 21. [clears throat] When I married John, I got with John when I was 19 and we got married. Kate was born November of 02. And me and John got married in August of 03. But he wanted her to have the royalty name. And the only way that she could have the royalty name is if we were to get married, >> but she was already born. >> They made me give her the Casey name when she was born cuz that was my last name at the time. It looks like her arrested eight times. >> What was the recent most recent? 2015 is all shown on here. She just went back to jail. ational control manufactur. Excuse me. Pulled all that up. I pulled all that up, too. Is this I see him. That's not him. Is that him? She's associated with John and some of her stuff, >> but it's all 2015. According to John, she was arrested again and it probably if it was recently it may not be on here yet. So I probably won't be able to I'll probably have to call Memphis and say, "Hey, send that to me." But she's got a lengthy pond record. She's got all kinds of equipment. Is there a key to the shed in the backyard? Do you have it with you? >> Hatchy Cove. She must land up there. >> Huh? That's where he used to live. That's the Cordova area. Yeah, that's where John used to live over there. She's got It just shows me three arrest on here. And then the other ones I'll have to call and ask him about. But she's pawned all kinds of stuff. A lot of his tools. >> Yep. All of his tools. >> Mhm. computer, jigsaw, computer with my daughter's electric jigsaw, furniture dolly, cordless drill, drywall, stuff, laptop, notebook, headphones, iPod, cameras, TVs, gold necklace, wedding bands, DVD players, diamond pendant. She's not a true character. >> The questioning now becomes deeply personal. Her daughter, the murder, and the gun are all pulled into the same conversation. She continues denying involvement, but the investigator keeps returning to one problem. Where exactly does that weapon fit into her story? >> Right there by my house. So, we got the one on 302 and the one on cross. Not sure. You don't know which I got my phone on yesterday, man. So, I can't tell you. It was $68. Spend it on his own. >> So, there should be a part there. >> Should be a part in the truck. I didn't see one, but he could have put it in the garage, you know. >> He might have ordered it. Might be in today or something. >> I don't know. Cuz I asked him about it last night when he got back if he was going to fix it. He said no, he was too tired. And I know he was tired cuz he's been working a whole lot of hours lately. >> Is him and Caitlyn, are they real close? >> Not a whole lot. She gets irritated because she's a teenager. >> It's normal. I mean, it happens. >> Yeah. She likes to play her music real loud. >> She don't like to help clean the house. She don't want to pick up dishes. >> That's just pain stuff. Yeah. >> She loves her daddy. >> Well, >> I know I miss my dad. My dad wasn't taken from me in that manner, but he died at a very early age from, you know, health issues and stuff like that. And I was just like your daughter. I wasn't that that close to my father like that. But I miss my dad every day. And I know that that Caitlyn would want to know who did this to her dad. >> I'm going to find out. And >> every once in a moment >> I want to know who did this to her dad. You want to know who did this to her dad? >> You're going to find out who did this. >> And you know I've read >> Can I have your card? >> Yeah, I'll give you one of my cards. >> I'm going to find out. >> It's This is somebody that y'all know >> every moment. >> This is somebody you know, somebody John knows. Somebody y'all had some type of issue with. Could be shave. Who knows? >> I I seriously don't think it would be him. He like John. Him and John got along. >> He may think he wanted to be with you or something, you know. >> No, >> but your daughter doesn't deserve to go through life not knowing what happened to her dad. >> Not knowing is going to kill her. Not having her dad walk her down the aisle when she gets married. And you know, I'm going to look at your phone once it finishes getting downloaded. I' I've pretty much looked at everything in John's phone. I know he was going to leave you. >> I know he wasn't He wasn't happy. >> I knew he wasn't happy. I knew he was depressed. >> Did you Did you know he was going to leave his mom? >> I knew he was depressed cuz he wasn't taking his money. I knew he was depressed, but I didn't know he was going to leave. You can't think of anybody or anything. >> Have you talked to somebody before about not wanting John in your life again or wanted John dead or wish he was dead? No, I've never I never wish she was dead. I wouldn't take my kids away from her like that. I know. I grew up not knowing who my father was. Things happen in a heated moment. I understand that. It's happened to all of us before. If something happened in the heat of a moment, would you tell me? >> Yeah, but I was asleep. You got my gun. >> But I know John owns a 40 caliber. >> One gun >> that you know of. >> True. >> You only >> He's not able to buy another gun. >> He could. You can buy a gun off the street any day. He works in Memphis, right? Works off of Jackson Avenue, right? He's never told me about him. >> Apparently, you keep things from him and he keeps money from him cuz he likes to blow money. But [cough] [clears throat] you said he had a what? >> A 40 caliber. >> A 40 caliber. And what does Terry have? >> You said he had a 45. I said he had a 45. It may be a 40. I don't know. That's why I said Terry has John's gun. The pen. Some type of pen. And I don't know what it was that locks the gun cuz it has a key lock thing to it. It gone. Couldn't find it. So >> So the gun's locked and it can't be >> you can't you can't load it. You can't shoot it. You can't do nothing with it without that pen in it. And >> why why would he give it to Terry Rutherford? >> Because when he got put on probation, they said no guns are allowed in the house. >> But you brought yours there. >> Because my car was outside that night. But you knew that John couldn't be around a gun. So why would you keep that gun? >> I thought about that, too. But I work in Memphis and that's why I keep it in my car. >> What if somebody stole it out of your car and it was used in a crime like this? >> Somebody stole it. I would have turned it in stolen. >> They get stolen out of cars every day. I don't think that's completely fair, but >> and I wasn't trying to be graphic with you when I told you that whoever shot him walked right up on him and shot him and then they chased him down and shot him in the head. This was not a crime of coincidence. This was somebody wanted John dead. Now your daughter has no father and your daughter will not have a father to walk her down the aisle or see her graduate her grandkids. Your daughter will have an empty hole in her chest and her heart for the rest of her life because somebody has taken her father away from her. I will be done someday again. Would Kyle do it? >> When's the last time you and Kyle talked? >> I don't even know. >> Long time. >> Yeah. >> Would Rodney do it? >> No. >> What's your past history with drugs? Weed. >> Just weed. Even when you were married to Michael >> and the other Steve. >> Steve, what about him? What did he do? >> I don't know what he does. I had talked to him and said the last time I went to court on child support with him and he told me he didn't never want to because I took child support. You never heard a gun? You never heard your husband scream? >> Mm-m. >> Nothing. >> No. Well, that's why I'm sitting here. I'm trying to I'm trying to think. I was asleep. I heard the knock on the door, which was more than just a knock, you know? It was >> poo bang. >> Yeah. And I was shaking. I woke up shaking like what? You know, it startled me. I didn't know what the crap was going on. >> Cuz for someone whose husband was just violently murdered. You seem like you have no emotions. A lot going through my mind. I [clears throat] know it's going to hit me. Um, I want to know who did it. You know, if your daughter finds out you had anything to do with this, she'll hate you for the rest of her life. >> I'd never do this to my kids. >> I'd never do nothing to hurt my kids. This would devastate her. >> This would crush her. >> You have to keep to the shade. >> I did add a question. Mhm. >> It sounds like I'm going to have to tell an attorney. >> No, they're just looking for a gun. We're checking the backyard, the woods behind the house. >> They've been in my house. >> No, I don't know. Are >> I'm not sure. >> Yeah, we're here. So, the officer sitting in your driveway. I do know that, but they want to check the lock shed to see if there's a gun in there. They're walking behind y'all's houses. They [snorts] started from that cove area and they're going through those woods. >> Well, I know to go through somebody's personal belongings, that's for sure. >> Mhm. >> You know, I am being cooperative. >> Oh, I know. I'm being overly cooperative. I understand that. Um >> I know I'm do it >> and >> I had nothing to do with it. I know you've watched TV, so you know that the spouse is normally >> always the first person to be suspected. >> And that's what we're trying to do. Eliminate you. Okay. And then I'll need to talk to Caitlyn and eliminate her. I don't see a problem with that. >> I've been 2-year-old. She's her daddy. >> Exactly. >> She couldn't go sleeping. >> Exactly. you know, you know, when I woke her up, I told her I know her. Um, you know, it's um I like that who did it. >> It's an unfortunate situation and and now you're working for people you really don't know. Plus, >> but you're when we when we dump a cell phone, it dumps the deleted and and I can look at all your deleted and all your current. Okay? I want you to understand that. Okay? I'm going to read >> I'm going to read it all. Okay? I'm just trying to be upfront and forward with you. Okay? The investigator starts connecting the people around her Kyle Shabi work and her relationships. He is not just listening to her answers. He is comparing them against the larger picture. And the more connections she explains, the more chances there are for something to contradict her. >> All right, as you've already seen me, I'm Sergeant Dixon, Major Cops. What we're going to do is call a light source. Okay. Alternate light source can detect gunshot residue, blood, stains, all that good stuff. Okay. So, what I'm going to actually have you do is I'm going to have you stand. I'm going to take normal photos of you. Straight up. Keep your jacket on. Uh take normal photos of you first. Okay. Just me and you. And then I'm going to have him turn on the light. When he turns on the light, I may have you sit down and put your hands on the desk, things like that. We're going to turn off the light, but it's going to be pretty plenty bright enough in here with that light. Okay? And then we're going to take more photos. You understand that word? That was a lot. All right. Suppose your arms right side. That's Jake. >> That's right. Turn them over for me. All right. Now, just have a seat. First, all you need to do is just put both your hands right there on the desk. That way, you're not shaking. You know what I mean? And Okay. Um, I'm going to need somebody to come bring you some clothes. Okay. The light that they just used. This is my forensic expert. Okay. You have gunshot residue all over you. How is that? You fired a weapon? >> No, I haven't. >> Okay. Well, the evidence proves that you did. >> And this jacket, I just got out of my closet this morning. I haven't even worn it since November. Your hands tell the truth. That little test I did on you where I swapped the back of your hand, your palm, >> and that light that he just used on you, you're going to go to jail. I haven't seen Well, I've held my gun, but I've not shot a gun. You don't get residue on you unless you shoot a gun. You have blowback all over you. All over your clothes. >> I don't see how that's possible. >> All over your pants, all over your hands. Okay. >> How is this possible when I've been in the bed all night? >> I tell you, your daughter is fixing to be without a mother. She is fixing to go through graduation. >> No, dating you. She's going to go through being married in my bed. >> You're not going to see grandchildren for the rest of your life. Do you understand me? >> I'm listening. But I have not been out of my house. >> Remember when I told you that >> y'all woke me up this morning? >> I knew. I knew by your phone. I can ping the towers in that area. >> Why would you shoot him? >> I did not shoot him. I swear I did not shoot my husband. I haven't shot a gun since me and my son went to the gun range. And how long ago was that? December. Yeah. You can either make it easy for yourself or I can just go ahead and indict you. >> And once I charge you, >> once I charge you, >> I did not shoot my husband. >> The residue that's on your hands would not be there if you hadn't fired a weapon. >> I have not fired a weapon. >> Okay. I swear to God, I swear on my child's life. I have not fired a weapon. >> You want to tell us what happened this morning? >> I was in the bed when the cops woke me up this morning. Yeah. >> What? What happened? >> I was in the bed when the cops woke me up this morning. Okay. All right. >> Can I use your phone since I can't use mine? Mr. >> Yes, ma'am. >> I'm sorry to y'all. I've not shot a gun in months. several months. >> I won't believe you. Okay. >> No, you don't. You're officers. Y'all like to frame us. >> Innocent people. That's what's happening. >> Okay. >> I'm being framed for something I didn't do. I went to sleep at 11:00 last night. I woke up when the cops were beating on my door this morning. I have a conscience. I couldn't live with myself. I couldn't live with myself to take my child's father away from her. This is all she has was her mom and daddy. We don't have family here. There's nothing that man could do to me in this world to make me want to kill him. He was tied up in outside our home. I don't know. But I know I didn't do it. Do you think he was involved in anything workrelated or anything that people that he >> I'm not going to put words in his mouth. The man is not here to defend himself. I can't do it to him. >> I know he liked his pain pills. I know he likes money. And what he did with his money, I don't know. But I cannot be framed for something I didn't do. >> How did a gunshot residue get on your hand? >> I don't know how. That's That's way beyond me. >> I mean, it can only get there if you fire a weapon. >> Well, I understand that. Unless what? It's from work. You know, I do construction work. I use those nails with the hammers to hammer the stuff into the concrete. That's the only other way. And you have broken things off with Kyle >> way long. It's been a long time ago. >> He lived with you for a little while, didn't he? just a short time while me and Josh split up. When John came back home, we were making our marriage work. Yeah. This last couple of months, we've had arguments over money. What family don't argue? I didn't know he wanted to leave me over it. I know I work a lot. I have no in between with me. I'm either all work or none at all. Now the interrogation moves closer to motive. Problems over money, an unhappy marriage, and the possibility of separation all come into focus. None of it proves who killed Jon, but it gives the investigator a very different picture of what was happening inside that home. >> [clears throat] >> We went and got shot between the other interview. He also has gunshot residue on him. >> I don't know. I don't know. I ain't even seen him since yesterday when him and John was talking. I don't know. >> Okay. I've been talking to him. He's enlightened me on a few things about you and him. >> Do we work together? >> Little more than that. He is emotionally attached to you. And you should know that the way your text messages read to him. You should know that. Hello. >> Is that a written statement? >> No. >> Okay. Um, >> I want a phone call. >> Okay. And I I need an attorney cuz apparently I'm being accused. >> Well, I was wondering if that was warrant for your house. >> No, she didn't get either. >> So, you do want an attorney? You don't want >> I'm apparently going to have to get one cuz I'm being accused of something I didn't do. I'm on my phone. I'm on my phone. >> Just a few sister. Oh god. Oh my god. They ask they're trying to accuse me of doing >> how why >> they're trying to say I got gun powder all everywhere. They took all my clothes and everything tried to accuse the man of going out there doing that this morning and I was asleep in the bed. >> How do you have gunpowder all over you? Want to try to accuse me of shooting your daddy and I didn't do it. I was asleep when they banged on my door this morning. Did they handcuff you? Cinder big. I know. >> It's heavy. Feel it. >> It's big. It looks like a man's ring. [snorts] That's pretty though. >> Who's with you? >> M. Trisha and Lydia. We've been here for a good four hours. >> Really? They told me to come up here. Whatever. They called me and not came up here as soon as they called me just in here. >> So, I had to go. >> They're trying to say Shabi's over here. >> She is. >> Yes. They're trying to say that it was a it was a love affair thing that me and Shami had something going on and we shot today saying that you're going to lose me. You're you done lost your dad. You're going to lose me. What the heck? >> I wanted to know if you did it, too. >> Oh my god, I just laughed so hard and that's bad. It's your food. >> [ __ ] Don't eat it. Nothing good. That makes me mad. >> Where's Trisha and Olivia? >> In the room. >> Bradley's here, too. Jojo says she's coming. Everybody knows. Nene knows. Knows. It's on the news. >> Josh called me because Willis told him. >> Ashley knows. She said to call. She said to call her as soon as you get a chance because she said she has to come to the funeral. Are we having Oh yeah, Miss Race is all over my lung. So is Miss Sharon. Shannon. Oh my gosh, it's crazy. Everybody in my school knows. Everybody's making up stuff. Oh, it's a drug deal that gone wrong. Um, oh, this case should be on the first 48 hours because there were so many cameras outside my house. >> What the heck? They they made me go open the door to the search room. our house up. >> No, but why was our bathroom already messed up? >> Where? >> The bathroom. All the stuff like out of the cabinets. >> They tore our house up >> before >> they tore our house up. Yeah. While when they took when Trisha took you, they took me and brought me here. They made me leave my house unlocked for them. They're going to tear our house up looking for a gun that shot your daddy. We have a gun. No, we don't. They took my gun. The investigator goes back through the timeline because now every small detail matters. Who was there? Who left? And what the phones can verify all become important. She keeps offering possibilities while he keeps pulling the conversation back toward what can actually be proven. >> Cabinets were out. Your closet there was um bags out. There was I mean it wasn't that bad. But I was like I asked lady I was like um was this here before or what? She was like um we left it how it is. We didn't do this. I was like okay. I had to walk sigh while they were searching the house. I kept getting up opening that door and um [snorts] you know what I kept opening the door and smoke like it's like as soon as I open the door three or four people were ruining like I was a freaking fusion. Oh my god. >> That all run this way. >> And I'm like, I'm not harmless. Just want to go smoke. >> You're not harmless. >> I'm not like >> harmful. >> Harmful. Just want to go smoke. >> Hello with mom. >> Yeah. >> No, there's nobody in here. Who's that? >> Bradley. Do you want to talk to him? Of >> course not. >> Here. >> Why is he here? >> I don't know. Bradley, why are you here? >> Because why? That's not a reason, but why are you here? Why? Well, I can't come out. They won't let me. >> Well, I've been here all day. They're trying to accuse me of it. Mhm. Trying [snorts] to say I did it. Trying to say Charlie did it. >> Is that why he shared? >> It is somewhere. I don't know. All right. I'm going to get text phone back to her. I don't know how long they're going to keep me in here. All right. Love you. Bye. They told me whenever we got back that we shouldn't be any any longer. >> Then everything changes. The investigator returns with a forensic result. Gunshot residue is supposedly all over her hands. She immediately denies firing a weapon, but the evidence becomes impossible to simply talk away. Now her story has to survive something far more dangerous than a question. >> Okay, this hurts your car. Mhm. I didn't do that. Were they still there when you left? >> Nope. They left and then we left. >> Okay. So, my house is still locked up. >> Yes. I wonder when there my phone died. So >> did they search it? >> Oh, they downloaded all my my phone. Your dad's phone everything. Your dad was missing us. >> He was all on his phone where he he was calling people for roommates and everything. So my Terry's here. Why is Terry here? >> Because Terry I gave him Terry's phone number cuz your dad told me that that's where his gun is. >> Oh, okay. Yeah, he already left. >> Did you talk to him? >> Who? >> No. He walked in. He said Caitlyn right up said yes. Sorry. He said yep. I miss um >> well technically I am doing that. I just said stuff to them. I'm not doing it. I'm not abusing them in any type of form or fashion. [snorts] I'm physically verbally abusing you. I'm not physically [laughter] verbally. Gosh, I hate >> that woman kept telling me that you lost your daddy. It's going to lose your mind. >> That woman in there with the the hair, the the highlights of her hair. How about she for Wednesday, bro? She's the one that was nice to me. Took me to the house. I brought me neither. I heard of getting Trisha and all this. I told them they need to go. They can go cuz they're tired and they're hung right now. They were like, "No, no." We've been here for like 4 hours. You can go. >> Huh? I've >> been here a lot longer than that and I'm hurting. home. [snorts and clears throat] What did you say to me when you woke me up this morning? >> I saw you, daddy. I don't care what nobody said. I still love this man. He was my husband. like I got Bill, but no fight that we've ever had was worth this, you know. The emotional pressure reaches another level. He questions her calmness after the killing while she insists she was asleep and knows nothing. But then the strategy changes. The investigators stop relying on her answers and begin testing what the physical evidence can reveal. >> Yes, I see your phone. >> Huh? >> We're going to seize his resistance. >> My phone. Mhm. >> Are you letting me go home? >> Yes. In just a few a little bit longer. >> Where's [sighs] Can I please go smoke? >> Yeah. Give me just >> I'm not going away. I'm kind of gated in out there for God's sake. >> Cuz I haven't done nothing. >> Give me just a second. Let's [clears throat] [clears throat] get back over there. You come back over there. Let me see that ink pen. [clears throat] Get that ink pen in your back. >> Yeah. >> I ain't allowed to have no ink pen. I ain't no criminal. will pay for you all at the end of the interview. That's my >> The pressure finally peaks. The investigator says he has enough to charge her while she continues denying the shooting. Then she asks for a phone call, an attorney, what began as an explanation, has now become a fight over whether her entire story and her freedom continue. If you take me, I'll just move. >> Okay, give me one second. All right, give me one second. Sorry in one second. Okay. All right. Be all right. >> What do you see? Look closely at his story.
