So, the basis of our relationship, Angela, is based on the first three sentences out of your mouth being not truthful to me. We have to watch you fall apart, okay? I don't care that you're suspended potentially or whatever else. But, the basis of our conversation, of our our to our relationship here is built on distrust. So, my concern is you've had some time to consider this whole situation, and >> On December 14th, 2018, Angela Kelly was brought in for questioning in connection with the death of Isai Barronas, who had died as a result of a gunshot wound during a fight outside an apartment complex in East Lansing, Michigan. Spoiler details are in the video description, and the full results of all charges in the case are laid out at the end of the video. >> Now, do I have a lawyer, though? >> At this point in time, you do not. >> No. >> Unless you have one and you say, "I don't want to talk and I want a attorney." Then >> I mean, I don't care. I really just want, like, for one, the situation to be over, and for two, I want the right person to be there. You know what I'm saying? Like, I want the whole entire situation to actually be understood. You know what I'm saying? And at the end of the day, yeah, I mean, but it just it feels more like I'm guilty until proven innocent than innocent until proven guilty. >> I don't know. I'm here to talk. That's why I'm >> Yeah, no, I definitely understand what you're here for. >> If you're So, this is what I just asked you, and this is what if you understand and you feel you waive these rights and talk with me. So, that I'm asking you to talk to me right now. If you say yes, you can go ahead and sign right there. And like you said, anytime if you're uncomfortable, you don't want to talk anymore, stop talking and tell me you don't want to talk anymore, all right? So, So, like you like you said, there's always two sides to every story. And right now, we have half the story. Um we wish we had the whole story before it got to this point, but unfortunately, it didn't work out that way. >> Can I ask you a question? So, is the only people that you guys have questioned so far, Jessica, Ivan, me, and Steve? >> We've talked to other people. >> Have you talked to the other party? >> Which other party? >> The other party that like jumped on Ivan prior to like a fight really escalated. >> That morning, other detectives had contact with as many people as we could find at the scene. >> Um well, I seen one of the girls that jumped on the news, but they never questioned her. >> How do you know? >> What do you mean, how do I know? >> How do you know what you >> Because I mean, if she's talking, then why wouldn't, you know, it just this whole situation really isn't making sense. And it just it doesn't like I feel like I can just give you a whole entire statement, and nothing that you think is untrue is going to make a a difference to you. You know what I'm saying? >> Here's from my perspective. I got woken up at 3:00 in the morning to come into a shooting, okay? And so, I respond from my home to East Lansing and try to put the pieces together. >> Oh, definitely. >> And when I came to try to put the pieces together, we had some people present, and we had some people that had left the scene. >> Yeah. >> You had left the scene. Jessica had left the scene. Ivan had had had left the scene. And Stephen had left the scene. >> Okay. >> So, we have to put together the pieces as to who was there. So, we finally talked to >> of all, it's me, Ivan, and Jessica that walked off. It was me, Ivan, and Jessica. There was a girl that was coming out of the front door. The girl came out of the front door, and cuz we had went to a different location, and then like it it was a big like mess. I got woke up out of my sleep, too. So, how you're frustrated about the situation, so am I. Jessica woke me up. >> And then >> Ivan Ivan just got jumped. Ivan just got jumped. She came over to my father's house. She grabbed me. We went over to Hannah's house, and the girls were like, "Oh yeah, come meet me. Blah blah blah blah blah." They already had jumped Hannah, and they had hit June All right, they had hit Ivan and Junior in the face. >> Okay. >> And it was two girls. And so, when we got to Hannah's house, the girls were like, "No, come over here. Blah blah blah blah." You know, da da da da. And then so, ended up they come running out at us. You know what I'm saying? And when I had seen the first girl, I'm like, "Who Who hit my cousin? Who has the phone?" You know what I'm saying? Because we were there to grab a phone. They specifically said, "We're giving you the phone." You know what I'm saying? It wasn't like we weren't violent back and forth. There wasn't like no arguing. There wasn't like, "We're coming here to beat your ass." Like it wasn't like that. It was more like, "Hannah's phone is gone. She just wants her shit." They're like, "All right, yeah. I don't want you the [ __ ] phone anyways. I can't get in it. It's got a lock on it. Blah, blah, blah. So, when we had went there, the girls come running out and I see cuz obviously, you know, Ivan's not about to hit a girl. You know what I'm saying? Which is why we got called over there in the first place anyways. And I mean, we weren't intoxicated, but these individuals that were against us were obviously. You know, so at the end of the day, I mean, you know, people it's easy for people to go from, you know, I'm okay to I'm not okay at all. And I see a push a person coming out the bushes with a knife. And I was like, [ __ ] he's got a knife. You know what I'm saying? And as soon as I had got to see that he had a knife, I was just like, we need to go. You know what I'm saying? Well, at that point, we were all into a big brawl. And then as soon as I heard the gunshot, I was like, what the [ __ ] And so I like start running around in circles. I'm like, what the [ __ ] Like, where's this coming from? You know what I'm saying? And then we all had ended up leaving. >> Who Who's fighting at that point? >> Me, my sister, and Ivan. >> You, Jessica, and Ivan are all engaged in a physical altercation. >> Physical altercation. >> who? >> Um there was two girls. There was a like there was three girls all together, three black girls. One was really short and fat and then it was like they were like stepping stools. Like there was a short one, a medium one, and a really big one. And the short one, she came out, she went to hit me, I ducked, I came up and I punched her. And then I just started fighting with her. Once I seen the other girls coming out, I was like, Jessica, get her, get her, get her. You know what I'm saying? Because I seen that these girls are bigger. I'm not about to leave a big girl to beat up my sister. It's just not going to happen. So, I was like, all right. So, Jessica's fighting with this girl. I go and start fighting with these two people, but I'm still trying to keep my eye on like what's going on because I see this guy like running towards my cousin. You know what I'm saying? >> Who's Ivan fighting with? >> Ivan with the guy that had the knife. >> Okay. >> The guy that came out of the bushes with the knife was who he was fighting with. >> What did he look like? >> Um he was a Mexican guy. I want to say that he had like a a white t-shirt, maybe a light colored t-shirt. Um the door was right here and the door that he came out of, well, I'm presuming that's the door behind these bushes because I mean, you don't just climb in the top of a bush and sit there waiting for people to get there. So, I mean, it only makes sense that he like climb climb up on a railing maybe. Something. Anyways, he flips out of these bushes and I see a knife. And I'm like, like they're going to try They're us. You know what I'm saying? And when I hear the gunshot, I'm like, "Fuck, they're going to kill us." You know, what I'm saying? Like, these girls were serious about the fact that they're going to kill us. And so, the girl had dropped her phone, you know, what I'm saying? And all I keep on thinking about is like, you know, like, these people are behind me at this point. So, I turn around. As I turn around, the girl comes Another girl comes out of the door and kicks me in my chest. As soon as she kicked me out of my chest, I'm obviously lost her breath, but I don't see Junior anywhere. >> Were you standing up when she kicked you in the chest? >> No, I was fighting on the ground with the girl that was in the bike rack. I'm the girl that pushed somebody in the bike rack. I know who did that. And so, when she had kicked me, I was like, out of breath. And then, all I remember is that we had hopped in the car. Like, we start running. And I thought that the guy that was on the ground was Junior. You know, what I'm saying? And I'm like, "What the [ __ ] happened? What the [ __ ] happened?" So, I'm like, screaming and crying. And I'm like, "I don't know what to do." You know, what I'm saying? And the shot sounded really far away. I mean, when you hear a gunshot, you know if the it's right behind you versus far away. Like, the gunshot sounded distant. And so, that's what made me like >> Was it one or two shots? >> one gunshot. It was one gunshot. And then, as soon as I heard the gunshot, I was just like, "Fuck." You know, what I'm saying? Like, it was a predominantly black community. You know, what I'm saying? Like, I didn't know what was going on. But, my first thing is, obviously, when you hear a gunshot, you don't stick around and be like, "Hmm, I wonder who's about to shoot me." >> So, you guys >> So, we all jump in the car. >> So, you, Jessica >> And I didn't jump in the car. And when we're leaving, you know, what I'm saying? Like, we're all like, really shook. Like, we're just like >> driving? >> Um, I can was driving. I can was driving. I was in the front seat. My sister was behind me. And so, I'm Steve wasn't there. I got woke up out of my sleep. >> Where was he sleeping? >> I He was sleeping. Like, I had woke him up and he was like, "Uh, like this." Yeah, I'm Cleo. >> saying while the three of you went up to that apartment >> Yeah. >> Steve stayed behind sleeping. >> Steve stayed behind. And then, Steve started like, blowing up my sister's phone. Like, "Where the [ __ ] are you guys going? Like, what's going on? What's going on?" And at this point, I'm not answering his phone call because I don't want him to get mad at me for going. You know, what I'm saying? And I'm like, "It's not really a big deal. It's girls that are jumping on my cousin." You know, what I'm saying? Like, I don't I There wasn't even no guys there. You know, what I'm saying? So, when I got there and there was a guy there, I was like, "Whoa. Like, what the [ __ ] is going on?" You know, what I'm saying? And then, so, when we leave, like, we're literally so like, shook up about this [ __ ] Like, we can't even drive. Like we can't. And so we just kept on like stopping, throwing up, and then we go back and I'm like, "Dude, this like this is crazy. This is the craziest I've said this is why I shouldn't have came to Michigan. This type of situation is why I don't come to Michigan." I said, "Now I'm in a whole bunch more [ __ ] for what? For what?" >> Why, since you brought that up, you had been here staying with >> My I was here for one day. I was here for one day. I came here strictly to see my kids. I came from Mississippi to see my kids and I had a you see together growing up. Well, he drove here with me cuz my drove home. Yeah. Well, we weren't like really living there because we were just we specifically came here for a couple days. I already had a job in Ohio and everything. >> What I'm saying is your kids live with grandpa. >> Oh, yeah. My kids are staying >> from Mississippi where you live with Steven. >> Yeah. To come here, visit my kids, and then go to Ohio. And because my my cousin just needed some help. We had been talking to her about it for a couple months and I'm like, "No, I'd rather not go live with anybody, you know what I'm saying? I'd rather have my own space." And then so I was like, "But if we're going to Ohio, that's 3 hours from Michigan. I have to go see my kids, like that's my number one thing, you know what I'm saying?" And so I get them all laid down. We're like we're watching movies, you know, having a good night prior to this happening. And then this happens. >> So, I'm going to back up just a touch. Do you have something to add? So, let's let's I guess go on with the Ohio thing. So, after this all happens and you're back at you're back at Clio? >> Yeah, I went back to Clio. At that point I was like, "I'm leaving." Because at this point I don't know if these individuals are like in affiliation with my ex. I don't know what's going on. I just know that somebody is up to something, you know what I'm saying? So, I'm like, "What if he's plotting on me?" You know, like why why why, you know what I'm saying? That's all I kept asking myself and like, "Why? What should I do?" And so I just I dropped to my knees and I started praying and I was like, "I got to go. I got to get out of this situation, you know, like I should have never came here. I have, you know, I'm I just graduated with a law degree in human services, you know what I'm saying? I have a lot to lose over a situation that escalated to a point where I couldn't even be here right now, you know what I'm saying?" And so that to you know, I was just like, I'm not going to take this chance anymore. >> So, you guys you guys left from where the fight occurred. >> Mhm. >> You left and you went to You said your driveway was on Cleo Street. So, you went back to Cleo Street. The three of you >> Back to Cleo, yeah. >> So, that's the three of you guys and you go inside and you're like, "What What happened? What happened? What happened?" And then then where did you go? >> And then I I went back upstairs, laid next to my kids, waiting for them to get up for school in the morning and like at this point, I didn't even know anybody died. You know, what I'm saying? I know that there was a gunshot. I know that, you know, like this guy was like on the ground, but I didn't know anybody actually died. You know, what I'm saying? >> on the ground had been shot? >> No, I didn't know that. I didn't know anybody had been shot. You know, what I'm saying? I know that there was a shot fired, but I didn't know that it hit anybody. And so, I took my kids to school and I, you know, I explained to them like when you get out of school, I'll be in Ohio to my kids. So, my kids cuz I'm really honest with them, you know, what I'm saying? Like they know that obviously, you know, we got to go through what we got to go through. And it's unfortunate, but eventually it'll be better. And so, I went here and they were like, "No, we want you to stay in Michigan." And I was like, "I just can't right now." >> Three Three kids? >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> Three kids. And so, my daughter started crying [clears throat] and she was like, "Why? Why can't you stay here?" And I was just like, "I I don't want to be here anymore. You know, what I'm saying? I got a job here. Give me a little bit of time and we'll have a house." >> So, then you guys at what So, once the kids go off to school, you I'm presuming just at some point I had left? >> Oh, well, yeah, I had even just left before I even had woke up to take the kids to school. >> Probably 4:00 or 5:00 in the morning. >> Yeah. >> So, then it's just you and Steve at your residence? >> Yeah, well, me and Steve like my kids' dad lives there. Like I brought him there prior to me and going to Mississippi because I I wanted him obviously to have a relationship with my kids, you know, what I'm saying? For the last six years, he hasn't done [ __ ] and he just now came to me and was like, "I'm trying to, you know, what I'm saying? I'm trying to. I just don't have the ability to." And so, I opened up the ability for him to do that. And I mean, I keep really close contact with my kids and then I heard that the body. I heard that there was somebody that was shot. >> When did When did When did you hear that there was a body or somebody shot? >> There was It was about 3 days after I was gone. Luther called me and he was like, "What the [ __ ] happened?" And I was like, "What do you mean, what the [ __ ] happened?" He was like, "What did you leave for that night when you were here?" And I was like, "What do you mean, what did I leave for? We got into a fight." And he was like, "Well, it sounds like it's a little bit more than a fight." And I was like, "What are you talking about?" And he was like, "I can't really tell you. I can't really talk about it." >> was like Thursday night, Friday morning. You found out about this like Would you say like Sunday? >> No, no, because I knew that Friday. I knew that Friday I was coming to turn myself in. I I knew that they were looking for that you guys were looking for me, that you already had got my cousin and my sister. And I was like, "This is getting out of proportion." Like if I would have known that it would have been this degree, I would have never wasted my time going up there. >> were about to come here and then but you would already made it to Ohio. >> No, my I already had made it to Ohio. I was in Ohio for like 4 days. >> What What time did you guys leave in that morning to go to Ohio? >> That morning I left here about like 8:30. 8:30 cuz I made it there around like 1. >> So you guys drove straight through. >> Okay. >> Yep. We drove straight through. Once we had got there, we went to my cousin's house, you know, like went immediately had a job um met with us like 4 that day. So now the occupations the next day we had open training. So we went to our training, all of that stuff because all of this was in play before we even got there. >> For a new job? >> Yeah. >> Where was that at? >> Um in at Waffle House in Uh I can't remember what the town's called. Grove City. >> So you guys went down there and went about your business with the plans that you had already >> Yeah, we already had made. Yeah. >> So That's right. So you get down there Friday. Friday at 1. And then you have your training. >> Is it Okay, so what day did the fight happen? The fight happened on a Thursday or Friday? >> Thursday night, Friday morning. >> Friday. So Thursday night. Okay, so Friday during the day is when I made it down there. >> Okay, so you get down there, you go to training, all that good stuff. So you didn't >> And they trained us over the weekend. >> You didn't get a call from Luther until what >> I didn't get a call from Luther until I want to say like Monday or Tuesday. Cuz I was down there a couple days. I figured that everything just had blown over, you know what I'm saying? It's just a fight at this point. And then I talked to Luther. >> So, when you were talking I mean you know I'm just keeping history in my head. When you were talking back at Luther's house with Ivan, you I don't Steven was Steven awake at that point? >> No, I had went up and woke Steven up and I was like crying and I was like my stomach and he was like he kept on trying to tell me like drink water like what the [ __ ] happened. >> And you, Ivan, Jessica, and Steven are awake at that point. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> And nobody at that point knew that there was a >> a death. >> a body that had a body or a body a person that had been shot or a death or a body. >> We know that there was a shot. We know that there was a shot and I was like yo, we could have just died. Like that's all we kept on saying to each other like yo, we could have just lost our lives. I was like you need to start [ __ ] thinking about things a little bit different than being, you know, just drinking and being in the middle. I said dude, this could have been your life. >> Yeah. >> I said you know anything >> and you said it to >> to Ivan. You know what I'm saying? I'm like this could be your life, yo. Today you couldn't be here. I said and thank god everybody made it. Thank god it is just a fight. I said but you got to think outside the box, you know what I'm saying? I know that's easy to be naive and not really think about situations but you can't be on that [ __ ] You know what I'm saying? And obviously, you know, he goes to all our parties, you know what I'm saying? He gets into fights and all that extra stuff but he was like I really been trying. And I looked at him and I was like yo, when I get out of time you better get yourself together. Like seriously just taking time to sit down and think about you. >> Have you Have you spoken with Ivan since? >> I haven't spoke with anybody. >> No No Facebook, no Snapchat, no texting, no nothing, no contact. >> Um no, actually I did talk to Duder. I text him and I said like what or Ivan Junior. >> Okay. >> Sorry. [laughter] And sorry sorry Ivan Junior and asked him was he okay. He was like yeah, he's really confused. I don't know what the [ __ ] going on right now. >> And that was when? >> Um that was two days ago. >> Okay. So, back to back to when you guys get done down to Ohio, you get there Friday, go about your business. I think I got off track there. Then on Sunday Sunday or Monday you got a call from Luther and that's when you found out that something big bigger happened. Someone there was a death. At what point So, obviously at some point Steven gets picked up down there by the Marshalls. >> Um well, what it was was at that point we figured out that there was a dead body. And so I called my outlaw even and I'm like crying on the phone and I'm like, "Yo, somebody died, blah, blah, blah. I didn't know that it got to this." I was like and I was like, "Look at how I look." You know what I'm saying? Like I look like I came there and did this and I got a highway I'm driving like, "I need you to come home." He sent me a money order to get the money and then he called me right back and he was like, "They're going to [ __ ] kill you." He said, "You need to stay there." >> And I was like, "What do you mean?" Was it the gang or the other party? >> No, the the marshals. Because at this point I thought >> Okay. >> And so I like start tripping out. I was like, "I'm coming home." You know what I'm saying? He was like, "Dude, I just think that maybe you should go to like a Walmart, somewhere where you're going to be in public and turn yourself in that way." He said, "I just want your safety. That's all I'm thinking about is your safety." And so at that point I was like, "Who what is the shooter?" And they're like, "That's what they're trying to figure out. That's why they're after you." And I was like, "What the [ __ ] That doesn't make any sense." You know what I'm saying? >> That was what day? >> That was on the day before Steve had got picked up. >> Okay. Okay, so the day before Steve gets picked up, >> It was actually the night. It was actually the night because if it was daytime, I would have instantly jumped on the highway and came out just because it would have been daytime if I got stopped and wouldn't have been a big deal. >> Okay. And so you thought the warrant was for you or >> Yeah, I thought the warrant was for me. >> At any point did you realize that the warrant was for both of you? >> No. >> Or think that the warrant was for both of you? >> No. Cuz nobody like that I was talking to even brought up his name. You know what I'm saying? Like Steve's never got brought up. It was all me. And so I'm like, "What the You know, what the fuck?" And then they had got there, the marshals kicked in the door, but they weren't coming in. So I was like, "They must not have a warrant to enter the premises." But they, you know, obviously know where we're at. And we were going to like leave the day before, but I was like, "We might as well just stay here." You know what I'm saying? Worst case scenario, they come to us. You know what I'm saying? And then my whole family's like, "But yeah, even if they come to you, you know what I'm saying? Like what if you get hurt? What if you get hurt? The only thing you need to think about right now is your safety." And so I just I didn't know the safest way to really turn myself in. You know what I'm saying? I didn't know what the safest way to do anything was at that point. I'm like, you know, I don't know what's going on and then I'm just being looked at as being guilty before innocent and it just like it didn't make sense to me. >> Okay. Do you understand now what the who's got warrants for what and all of that? >> I don't. I really don't. Like I haven't really talked to anybody. I don't have any knowledge of that. >> Steven is a suspect in this. As >> I Yeah, I obviously know that now. >> And because you left um because you left with him, they're looking at you for aiding and abetting. >> Okay. >> So they're not looking at you for homicide. >> Okay. >> They're looking at you for aiding and abetting. So that's where we're at right now because you guys left together. Um any questions? I'm going to put on the list of Well, there are a [clears throat] couple of questions. I don't I don't mean I don't like to write stuff down, but I when when you see me jot stuff down it's questions that that come to me so I can ask them what I'm and not interrupt you. So that's all I'm going to do here, but one question I had is what looks a little bit suspicious to me and maybe maybe you could offer explanation for it is at some point you got a new phone. Did you get a new phone? Because the number he had gone. >> No, my phone completely disappeared. My phone number was 5 That number didn't get paid. So when I came to Michigan, I didn't have a phone. >> Okay. >> Steve had a prepaid phone and his phone got wet. So his phone wasn't working at all. >> there, he got a new number. >> No, neither one of us had a number when we was down there. >> When you when you went Did she get back to Ohio? >> When I went to Michigan back to Ohio, I stopped to pay my bill. >> Okay. >> At that point, they said you have no like there's nothing. And I was like, "What do you mean I don't have no there's nothing?" >> So they didn't give you any phone. >> And so we started looking for my phone. Well, my email doesn't work, my phone doesn't work, and they can't find my account. So at that point, I was forced to get a new number. It wasn't like I was down there like, "Hey, yeah, I'm going to get a new get a new number." You know what I'm saying? Cuz I don't have any of my contacts. I don't have any of my friends, pictures, nothing. >> Okay. Um this is going to be be a little off topic, but it's one of the first things I jotted down here was so back to the fight. I don't mean to jump around like this. >> No, you're fine. >> If I don't mention it now, I'm not going to mention it. So, back to the fight. There's a You get there. You're fighting one girl. Uh Jessica's fighting another girl. Ivan's fighting the guy that you described as a Mexican guy with the light shirt on. >> Mhm. >> And there's a shot where he comes at I He said he comes at Ivan with a knife. >> Well, he starts running at him. Not just coming at him. He starts running at Ivan. He's like just like swinging the knife. And so, I hear Ivan say, "Fuck, he has a knife." And at this point, I already realized he has a knife. You know what I'm saying? And I'm thinking >> Did you see the knife? >> I seen the knife. >> And was it like a pocket knife or like >> No, it was a >> Can you describe >> The knife that he had like he he had it in his hand. >> So, like that's >> Yeah, he had it in his hand like this. So, I couldn't like really, you know, cuz he came out of the bushes. And when he flipped and fell, I thought he cut himself. You know what I'm saying? Cuz he literally like fell on down like whole tumble thing and then gets back up. And I'm like, What the hell? >> Was it black or silver? >> Um the blade was silver, I want to say, because it it was just shiny. You know what I'm saying? But it wasn't close enough for me to actually get a color. And plus, I'm over here fighting. You know what I'm saying? Like >> Did you happen to notice if it's like a small pocket knife or like a big hunting knife type thing or >> It looked like maybe might have been a pocket knife, but a big pocket knife. Like not a huge like dagger like that he comes out of with a sword or nothing like that. You know what I'm saying? But it definitely looked like it could do some damage. >> Okay. Do you mind if I just about >> No, so make sure it's the same number as I'm making sure it's getting screwed up. >> Yeah, yeah. >> Um So, let's kind of map this out for me. So, you're you walk up, you and Jessica walk up to the apartment. >> Me, Jessica, and Ivan. >> You're walking up to the apartment. >> We all get out of the car together. We all walk up to it. >> Okay. So, you're walking towards the apartment. Who Who Who is where? >> Huh? >> I'm I'm >> I was I was right here. My sister was behind me. We were kind of like a triangle. You know what I'm saying? My sister was right behind me. My cousin was right here. You know what I'm saying? And he came to a point out >> He's on your left-hand side. >> Yeah, he's to my left. Jessica's to my right. Like I just knew that. >> And they're both behind you. >> And they're like right behind me. You know what I'm saying? But at this point, I just got to look at my phone to sleep. Obviously, I'm not. I just want my [ __ ] phone. >> Yep. Yep. >> And I mean, why? What would What was your purpose of doing that? You know what I'm saying? It just I don't know. It doesn't make sense. >> Okay, so you guys walked up, and then the group of two or three girls come out. >> No, one girl comes out at first. One girl comes out at first, and she's like she's got something in her hand. And I I couldn't see what was in her hand. It was maybe a cell phone or something. So, she puts it in her pocket. And I'm like, "Is that your cell phone that is supposed to be in there?" And she was like, "Yeah, something something white thing blah blah blah." And I was like, "All that's irrelevant as fuck." >> Mhm. >> I don't know anything white. >> Yeah. >> And so, she was like, "No no no no no." She's like talking all the time as she's coming up. And all the time she's coming up just talking [ __ ] you know what I'm saying? This and that, white this, white that, blah blah blah. Which I don't care. Yeah, cool. I know who I am. >> Yeah. >> Awesome. Look at who I am. And it was just like she kind of felt like she had the upper hand because she was far. Which, you know, sometimes it's normal. And um so, as she comes up, she just automatically thinks that she's got it. You know what I'm saying? And then when she finally gets to me, you know what I'm saying? She goes to hit me. I duck her hit, and I hit her. Well, when I hit her, she stumbles backwards. You know what I'm saying? And when she stumbles backwards, I grab her and I just put her on the ground. I just grab the top of her head. And I was like, "What the [ __ ] are you thinking?" Like, "What are you thinking right now? All of this for what?" You know what I'm saying? And so, I'm like asking her like why why why? That's all I kept on asking her. And then the other girl came out. Once I realized that the other girl >> more girl? >> And yep, one more girl comes out. And they're all like sporadically coming out of this house. At the same time that this girl comes out, the guy comes out of the bushes. >> Okay. So, so now So, you're you're on the top of the one girl asking her why, then a girl [clears throat] comes out, and then like another guy comes out then the guy comes out like almost almost immediately. >> They come out together. >> Okay. >> She can't They had to be at the first apartment on the left-hand side. That's the only thing that makes sense because they perfectly like came out together. Once I realized that the girl was coming out, and I see this guy like trip cuz he's he's making a lot of noise, you know what I'm saying? Which is what got me. I'm like, "Why is there Why is the bush moving?" >> Mhm. >> You know what I'm saying? Like first of all. And so, when he comes out, it it was like he jumps like jumps out of the bushes, falls and like rolls. >> Okay. >> And then at that point, Ivan's like going down the street area, you know what I'm saying? Behind all these cars. And I'm going to get this girl before she is on my sister. >> So, you go around and enter through the right a little bit without going through the mouth? >> No, I'm straight I'm in front of the door. You know what I'm saying? Like I'm in front of the door. I never went over there, but all of it is like it's in one small area. >> Well, that's the guy that came up to your left. Is that not the same >> Yeah, the guy came up to the left. The guy was not by us, you know what I'm saying? But at the same time he was by us because like the front door was literally as soon as you go in and take a left, that's has to be their door. Because I mean it's the only thing that makes sense. This guy comes out of these random bushes. Everybody that's coming out is coming out obviously from somewhere close to this door. >> Mhm. >> He's not coming out of the right apartment but jumping out of the left bushes. >> Right. >> You know? >> Okay, so so he comes out. Ivan's kind of in that direction somewhere or something like that. >> Yeah. >> And then you think the one girl might be coming after Jessica, so you want to go take care of that. >> Well, she's coming towards me and Jessica are at the same spot. You know what I'm saying? But I'm just thinking about this being my little sister. You know what I'm saying? I'm I don't care who this girl is. >> Yeah. >> I mean obviously would you care? >> No. >> I mean >> So so you go and make contact with her. >> Mhm. >> So, she comes out and she's like, "Oh, hell no. Blah blah blah blah. Then I do this and that. Like this. Blah blah." And so you know like I get up and go towards her. As soon as I go towards her she hits me. She like punches me in my shoulder. Like obviously she was probably trying to punch me in my face. And so she punches me on my shoulder. As soon as she punches me on my shoulder I grab her by her face and pull her down on the ground. And >> And then you went into like the bike rack or whatever? >> No, we got back up and then she went into the bike. And cuz at that point you know what I'm saying? Like I'm trying to stay to where I can see what's going on over here. >> Mhm. >> And then so she ends up grabbing my sh- she grabbed my shirt from the the top. [clears throat] She grabbed my shirt from the top. I have her I have her hair. I have her hair, she has my shirt, and we're like this close. And she's not letting go and neither am I. You know what I'm saying? And then so finally I let go and I push her off of me. I was like, "God. Like the [ __ ] are you doing? You know what I'm saying? Give me the [ __ ] cell phone. That's all I told her I was saying. Like just give me the cell phone, you know, blah blah blah." And she was like, "Fuck the cell phone. Blah blah blah." She keeps like arguing. At that point she gets back up and she goes to charge me again. When she charges me I literally grab her by her face and just like pound her into the bikes. When I pound her into the bike I just grab her by her head and I was like, "You stupid bitch." You know what I'm saying? Like I'm I'm pissed at this point. You know what I'm saying? Now it's getting into a whole big ass brawl. My cousin's over here. I don't know what's going on. And right then, bam, I hear a shot. And I'm like, "Fuck, he shot my cousin." >> And you can't So, it sounded like it came from that direction where your cousin was standing? >> Yeah. It was at It was right behind me, but it was like in the distance. You know what I'm saying? It wasn't Like, you know it's a gun that's close to you or not. You know what I'm saying? You know if you hear a gunshot that it's a predominant gunshot. This was like That's all it sounded like. And I was like, "The fuck?" So, as soon as I turned over to my right, and the girl was coming out of the door and she kicked me in my chest. And um At that point, I tried to like grab her, you know what I'm saying? Cuz this girl still got me. And she's got me by my shirt. And so, I'm like trying to figure out and then at that point, I hear the gunshot and I'm like, "Fuck." I jump up, you know what I'm saying? I'm like looking around. I'm like literally like in circles just looking for everybody that I know. Like, "What the [ __ ] is going on?" You know what I'm saying? So, I grabbed Jessica. I'm like, "Come on, we got to go. Come on, we got to go. You want to [ __ ] die?" And so, we run and we get in the car. And >> And then, when did Ivan get in the car? >> Um he got in the car like right after we had gotten in the car cuz we were the first two to make it to the car. And Jessica was like, "I can't drive. I can't drive." Cuz we just ran, you know what I'm saying? We ran to the thing. I'm like out of breath. Plus, the girl that kicked me in my chest. And I was like, "Man, maybe I should go to a hospital." And I was like, "Nah, I'm good. I'm good." Cuz it just like started slowly not hurting as bad. And so, I get back to the house and I'm like, "It's got to be just like anxiety, you know what I'm saying? Maybe stress." So, I get there and I start drinking water and we're just all looking at each other like, "Fuck, how did this happen?" You know what I'm saying? "Why? How? How? How?" >> So, you seen So, when you were there, the only people that you seen in that at the apartments up there, you, Jessica, Ivan two or three black females? >> There was three black females and one Mexican guy. >> Okay. And is there anybody else? >> Well, when we first had pulled in, there was like three um three guys that were like walking towards us. But, they're like down at the end of the complex. Like, I don't really remember exactly how the complex looks, but I know when we came in, we took a right. And when we took a right, the guys were like coming towards us. You know what I'm saying? But, I don't know if they had anything to do with it, you know what I'm saying? I just know that it was >> Were they Were they Hispanic, black, white? >> They're black. >> Okay. >> Black. I mean, all that I've seen there when I was there is black people except for us. You know what I'm saying? All I seen was black people. Um there was like a couple of black people who were like across the street, like but they were older. You know what I'm saying? Like they weren't old old, but they were like older. And then um that makes sense. >> So, and when you seen the three three guys in the black males walking and towards you guys, that was when you first pulled in? >> Yeah. >> That wasn't like when you guys were fighting. So, then how far away were they? Quite a ways away? >> Um they were in the next building over. Like these three guys were. And so, when they had told Ivan like we'll shoot you, you know what I'm saying? Like we didn't know like what the [ __ ] was going on. You know what I'm saying? Like >> when the girl said that earlier in the day? Okay. >> Yeah. >> At some point after the shot, he said he saw uh somebody laying on the ground and he thought it was Ivan. >> I thought it was Ivan. >> Did you Did it occur to you that the that shot had to do with When When When you found out or realized it wasn't Ivan? >> I didn't even really know that it wasn't Ivan. You know what I'm saying? Like >> saying is when you get in the car and now Ivan's driving. >> Yeah. I knew I Cuz even like I know that it sounds extremely crazy to not want to stop and make sure that my cousin's not But all I could think about is as soon as I go to check on this guy, you know what I'm saying? I'm going to die. You know what I'm saying? Like I'm not thinking about >> get in the car and you realize the guy that you saw on the ground wasn't >> wasn't Ivan. It had to be the Mexican guys. >> So, you realized I'm assuming you realized at that point that that shot had something to do with the guy laying on the ground. And then did you put it together that it was the the Mexican guy, the guy with the beanie on? >> Yes. >> So, you did put it together at that point that there was a shot, there's a guy laying on the ground, you realize it's not Ivan, and that guy just got shot. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> And at this time like the guy had moved. You know what I'm saying? Like he moved. He turned over. I didn't see any blood. >> Okay. >> Like when I looked down at him, I didn't see no blood. So, I didn't even think that he really had got shot. I just thought that he had got knocked out. And so, I'm like, you know, like none of it really made sense. Like even when we left, none of it made sense. We're all looking at each other. I'm like, "The [ __ ] just happened?" >> Did he mention anything about a knife? Cuz if he was >> Yeah. Ivan's the one who As soon as I seen the knife, he was like, "Fuck, he has a knife." You know what I'm saying? But I seen the knife as soon as he jumped out of the bushes because that's the first thing that came out. You know what I'm saying? Was his hand with this knife. And then he like, flips over. >> So, you put it together that guy in a fight with a knife, gunshot, guy with a guy with a knife in a fight is now laying on the ground possibly dying. >> Yeah. Yeah. And then so, when I got home, like I start asking him, I'm like, "Man, did that guy have a gun?" And he was like, "I don't know what I don't know I don't know I don't know." That's all he kept on saying, "I don't know I don't know." And I'm like, "We need to know. You know what I'm saying? Like, we need to know what the [ __ ] is going on right now." And he was like, "I don't know I don't know." And then all of this it was just like it was a blur. It just didn't even seem real. Like, even the next day when I woke up it just didn't seem as real. >> So, that night um did Jessica call you or just come over or >> Uh Jessica called me the first time I got on the phone with her. She was like, "And then and I couldn't really understand what she said." You know what I'm saying? So, I hung up the phone and then I was like, "Man, there's got to be something wrong." Like, you just you get that feeling. You know what I'm >> Did she call you on that the 517 phone number? >> 517 >> So, after she called your mom? >> phone. >> Oh, that's your papa's phone. That's not yours. That's That's your papa's. >> That's my papa's phone. >> Okay. >> No, I didn't We didn't have phones when we got back >> Okay. No. >> The first day when we got back here, his phone got wet and just stopped working completely. So, his phone like if you call his phone, his phone will still ring. >> Mhm. >> But, you you don't get anything on the phone that's actually like anything. >> Okay. Um So, she called your papa's phone to get up to tell you "Hey, we're coming over to get him." and all that. >> Mhm. >> Okay. So, you're here. >> I am. >> And Steven's here. >> Mhm. >> And we talked to again the other parties involved. And we talked to the other half of your group, all right? Would it surprise you to know that maybe the stories aren't consistent? >> No, it wouldn't surprise me at all. >> Okay. So, you can imagine probably >> that there's a thousand different stories for the same >> There's one pretty consistent story and it's not what you're telling me. You see what I'm saying? It's It's not what you're telling me because if it was what you're telling me, if everyone said what you're telling me, you probably wouldn't be here because as it is, we have maybe an aggravated assault or something like that, but we don't have a homicide suspect and the person that aided and abetted the homicide suspect. So, the hard truth and I I appreciate you talking to us and I want to believe you. The first thing that I asked you and I know I didn't have a chance to introduce myself and tell you what was what, the first thing you said to me is I didn't drive here. That's not my car. No, you can't search it. So, now I've got the basis of our relationship, Angela, and you Angela. >> Yeah, no, I definitely understand. >> And you Angela. >> What is wrong, Angela? >> So, the basis of our relationship, Angela, is based on the first three sentences out of your mouth being not truthful to me. We had to watch you pulling in the park, okay? >> I don't care that you're suspended potentially or whatever else, but the basis of our conversation, of our our two-hour relationship here, is built on mistrust. So, my concern is you've had some time to consider this whole situation and kind of put together a scenario that you think makes you look like you weren't involved and makes Steven look like he was involved in the context. >> Yeah. >> No, I definitely do. >> I think you're giving me the truth. So, there's some consistency with what the other folks told me occurred as far as your involvement and what you told me your involvement is. >> So, all the stories I've gotten out are pretty much All of them down until there's one spot that you're not telling us that it goes way off. Everybody else is saying the exact same thing. And that has to do with somebody else that's already in jail. >> So, the difficulty here is I've not I've not tried to mislead you or trick you or anything. I can't. Right? >> We can lie all we want, but we don't but we're not going to >> But I hope you realize from what I'm telling you, I don't I don't like to tell mis-truths, okay? And I've not told you anything that's not true, okay? The difficulty is because of every other circumstance that we have because because of every other interview that we have done, because of every other statement that we've collected, and we've been doing this for weeks. >> No, I didn't want to. >> We've got a lot of folks back in our detective bureau that have spent a lot of time talking to people, and this person says this, this person says this, and it's pretty much the same. Perspective's different or they're different because of where they're standing, where they're at, what they're thinking at the time, but there's a lot of consistency that leads to the same story. And then we get to you, and your story's not the same. And the fact of the matter, and this is what I was getting at, is you can't say Stephen was there. You can't I know that. I know that. You can't say anything that's going to make me go, "Oh, I'll let him out and send him on his way." And you really can't say anything that's going to make it any worse for him. >> Mhm. >> What you can do is not say something and make it worse for your worse for yourself, or not tell me the truth and lie to me, and that's going to make it worse for yourself. You know he's getting out right now? Right now? $100,000 for you to get out of jail right now. $100,000 for aiding and abetting a homicide suspect. And just like you said, everything looks everything looks very shady, the way you guys left early in the morning, break of dawn, and you guys hit the road for Ohio, back down towards maybe initially what we thought it was going to be Mississippi. >> We had plans before we came to New Mexico. >> I believe you did, and I think that your plans may be maybe you made your plans come here, visit kids, and maybe you left a little earlier, or maybe you're going to leave that early anyway, but the fact of the matter is the truth and the weight of the circumstance is nothing to be I I don't a lot of people know >> destroy my truck, aren't you? >> We're going to look at your truck, yeah. >> Well, that's fine. I mean, >> another thing I'm I'm glad you brought that up. I need I need evidence of this crime. So, if there's something in there, if there is clothing with blood, if there's a firearm that was involved, if you tell me where it was, I'm not going to destroy your truck. And then that shows that you're not aiding and abetting, you're actually helping yourself out, you're helping me out. So, is there something in your truck that I need to know about that I can go directly to? >> No, I have a blunt in my truck. That's the only reason why I I didn't want you to Yeah. >> So, but back to the weight of circumstances that are you They don't put $100,000 bonds on people lightly. Okay? The facts that we have against Steven are are real. Okay? We have people that put him there. He's got some specific things about him that make him identifiable. He's got some markings on the left side of his face. I rode for 6 hours in the car with him. I He's There's some things that can put him there, and he was there. And you're scared and you want to protect him, and you're saying he wasn't there, but I know he was there. Is there anything that you The problem with that is your charge for aiding and abetting that just strengthens our case against you. And we have something else that's true. >> And what I What I said to you was true. Me, Jessica, and Ivan are the ones who walked up to the fight. That's completely true. >> And and and maybe that's the case, but Steve was in the car with you alone there. Sometimes, I get this. Okay, let's pretend that you you're not lying to me. Let's say you're not lying to me. You tell me the truth. But sometimes people make me think a little bit more and make me ask the right questions, right? So, now I'm telling you what I know, and I'm asking you the right questions. Steven didn't stay at home and sleep. Steven was in the car at those apartments with you when the guy got shot. >> Steven did ride with us, yes. >> Okay. >> But Steven did not get out of the car with us. When we walked up to the fight, it was me, Jessica, and Ivan. >> Right. I believe it. I believe you when you're saying you guys went up to the fight, maybe Steven hung back in the car. At some point, Steven sees his girlfriend getting into it pretty bad, and he goes up to protect his girlfriend. Maybe it's self-defense. There was a knife involved. But Steven was there. Steven had a gun. That's why he's here. >> I don't I know I don't think he had a gun. Like honestly on the bottom of my soul, I don't That doesn't make sense to me. >> So when you when you guys went down, did you know him to carry a gun? >> No, I don't. >> So when the marshals went down to your house, did they find a gun in the house? >> No. No, they did not. >> Okay. I understand that >> to god that they did not because when they came outside, they had no gun on them. Did they ask me about a gun? Yes, they asked me cuz they searched my truck. I also told them yes. And I like what is you searching my truck going to do for me? They said clear your name. Obviously it did not. So therefore, I'm lied to. >> Did they just search your truck? >> Yes. >> They did? Okay. >> Yes. >> So can we we can agree on the fact that Steven wasn't sleeping when you three went there. Steven rode with you there but hung back in the car. And can we agree on the fact that when you were getting into it pretty good with these other girls, Steven got out to help you out? >> I did not see Steven anywhere. Like honest to god, I got up and the only person that I did see was just Ross. >> Okay. And and but you were preoccupied as well. So if he got out, you wouldn't have probably seen that anyway. >> to hear the artist. >> So remember we are It's probably not going to surprise you to know that a lot of the questions I ask, I already know the answer to. Right? Like, hey, did you drive here? No, I didn't drive here. So can I search your car? >> No. >> No. Did I already know the answer to that question? >> Yes. I thought you guys followed me there. As soon as I had gotten inside, I'm like, I don't know why I'm in the jail Disney right now. >> Nope, we didn't follow you there. We were there because of the appointment that you had not knowing if you're going to show up or not. We decided we might as well let them talk and we'll talk to her afterwards. We'll execute this warrant afterwards. So we communicate with our agency as far as that. So we just had we just had them in the lobby for the 25 minutes while you talked. >> Um >> So we just and and >> Yeah, I mean I knew and I called down here earlier, you know what I'm saying? Like I was going to come turn myself in. >> Right. But I was told no. >> The point is, like I said, we ask often ask questions already knowing the answer or at least having a pretty solid idea because I don't want to ask a question >> Yeah, I know that you're confused. >> confused, right? Like your car. Right? >> Even if you ask me today, right now, with it then I'm I'm not going to tell you that I drove it. >> If If you weren't here If you weren't in the picture, if you weren't there that night, if you weren't in the picture if you if you drove there down there by himself, he would still be here. >> Yeah, apparently. >> The issue is he's facing some stuff, okay? You're going to face it with him in a separate potentially after trial in a separate prison. >> So, I'm really about to be going to prison? >> Potentially. We have It's a 5-year felony. for aiding him. >> Like I'm saying, I I am I It's a $100,000 bond. We don't put $100,000 bonds on drunk drivers that are not going to do any time or maybe do 90 days, okay? So, I'm not This is not me fibbing to you, okay? This is me saying Angela, wake up, look, listen to me, tell the truth. He's here without you. He's here regardless of your involvement. If you and he never met and he went there with Ivan and and Jessica and did what he did he's here regardless, okay? >> But like the last time that you guys went through my truck, my whole center console is broke out now. >> We're not going to do anything. We're not We're not going to do anything. The US The US Marshals have their fed their federal branch of law enforcement. They have different different training, different rules that govern them. I have rules that govern me. All right? I If I'm the one that goes through your truck, I'm going to pull things out, lay them out, we're putting it inside so we can do it out of the weather. And then we're going to put them back in. It might not be folded perfectly, but I'm not going to break stuff. The only reason that we go through consoles, pull door panels and stuff like that is that if if we think there's a dog hits on a a dope stash or something like that. But back to this particular matter is that like I said, you got you got the fact that and you understand and you believe me that he's here with you or without you. >> Mhm. >> What is he going to want you to do? Is he going to want you to go down with him needlessly for helping him out? >> Mhm. >> And that's why we're talking to you and that's why That's why There's a guy There's a guy dead and there's a guy that shot the guy that's dead and there's a family that came up to bury their son, okay? That whether he made a bad decision or not, he did. >> Mhm. >> So, this has to be dealt with. So, we've got a life destroyed. We've got family that's grieving. We potentially have another life with Steven's going to deal deal with some stuff. And I don't know that we really are that interested in Angela. But if Angela's going to continue to As far as putting you in in as part of the homicide. But if Angela's going to continue to not be truthful >> at? >> We should have brought her home then. That call that call that I took was the tow truck driver cuz I didn't sit with it. It was the tow truck driver saying, "I think I got the right one. Is it this one?" I said, "Yes." >> going to [ __ ] up my truck? >> even called for a flatbed because you can't tow front wheel drive. We called for a flatbed and we called We have a one of our parking guys are supposed to be up at the impound lot in 20 minutes. No, we didn't get into it. We have one of the parking >> We have to put it in neutral and get it up the thing. >> No, they have dollies. They put the wheel on the dolly on the wheel. They put these wheel things underneath. They clamp the tires. They have these big bars that put the truck up. If it's a front wheel drive and they got to tow from the back, they put them on the drive wheels. If it's four wheel drive, they dolly all four tires. They winch it up onto the flatbed and then they're going to take it up to our impound lot. And this is not necessarily so much for you but for me or for the guys that have to search it. It's going into our barn so it's going to be secured into our barn so it's secured, can't be gone through and then we can keep it inside and if we have to do a search on it, we can do it out of the elements. So, it's actually Do you park it inside normally? >> Mhm. >> Oh, you do? Okay. >> Yeah, but I just got in the car so I really got in Arizona. >> It's going to be It's going to be parked inside and we're going to go through it inside. So, it's not going to get wet rain inside and it looks like you have got a lot of stuff in there. So >> of stuff. >> That's why I'm at One thing I'm asking, I don't care what you got in from That's why I'm asking if you got something there, tell me. But, you understand and what I want you to do is tell me the truth because, like you said, it looks like you were continuing to aid and abet him, participate in this 5-year felony by saying you you weren't there. I don't know. You didn't do it. I think you know more [clears throat] than what you are telling me. I just want you to tell me what actually happened. >> I told you what actually happened. Like I mean really right now, I know when I went across state border. I know how the law works. You know what I'm saying? I do have a law degree. >> Where'd you go to school? >> Um I went to Michigan. Yeah, and then I went to Arizona to go to Arizona State and then I just I couldn't do it. Mentally, I just couldn't. Couldn't. >> So, you prepared you [clears throat] you prepared by going to school, getting a degree. >> Just a [ __ ] up. >> Well, let's let's put this aside. Your your goal is to get a job, buy a house, get back together with your kids. How old are your kids? >> I have a 5-year-old and a 9-year-old or a 5-year-old and a 9-year-old and a 11-year-old. >> 5, 9, 11. Okay. You love your kids. How often do you see your kids? >> Of course I love my kids. Before this happened, I had them 24/7. >> Before they moved up to Michigan? >> No, before I went to Michigan. >> Okay. And that was 6 months ago? >> No. >> Three? Three months ago? So, since you've been in Michigan, you come back to visit them obviously. So, the potential is I'm not trying to be dramatic, but the potential for you if everything went and dry all the way this is could go is you being away for 5 years and then your 11-year-old 16 years old by the time you get out. >> And and that's honestly we want to take care of the homicide. You're just a small piece of the puzzle and if you ended up getting out of this, that's fine with us. We don't have any ill will towards you. We would much rather see you home with your kids. So, >> I'm just glad that I got this behind me cuz I can actually ride up to my grandpa's house now, and not feel like I'm going to be with her in my face. >> So >> It's behind you in that you're here, but we're still trying to decide what, you know, basically >> What to do with this >> this issue. The orange issue. >> Well, it's not it's not just what to do with you. It's we still want to make sure that again [clears throat] What you're here for is aiding and abetting. That's what you're here for. So and that's not something that That's not something that can't [clears throat] be undone. If we talk to you and everything, you can show us how you're not aiding and abetting, then it's just going to help your case. So and and when we had this conversation, we were like, "Oh, Steve, stay there and that I hurt your case." But that's why we're having this opportunity to talk to you to try to get you to help your case. Um so and first step was, "Okay, Steve did ride with us, but he stayed back in the car." And I believe that he stayed back there and that you didn't see what happened after that. The question I have now though is the information that we have is he obviously he's in jail, so the information we have obviously is he was the one that pulled the trigger. So if that happened he pulls the trigger you guys you then spend the last what? 2 weeks basically? Week and a half? With him? That's going to be discussed. So if you didn't know if he shot him shot that night you would know after the fact. >> He never like honest to God and I don't put anything on my mouth. I don't put anything on anything I love. He never said anything about that. He never like seen in me like usually like if you got somebody that has killed somebody, you get that demeanor off them. That like, you know, they feel that. I never felt that from him. I never I mean, the only thing that I was really stressed about [clears throat] is as soon as I found out that there was a body that we were coming When I was coming to turn myself in, he was coming right along with me. >> So you're going to you're going to make me ask the right question again. >> What? >> You're going You're going to have trying to tell me this truth here. You're going [clears throat] to have me ask the right question because I can't believe for a second after this happened and then you're back at um grandpa's house and you're with Jessica and you're with Steven and you're with Ivan that no one said anything about who shot who that night. All the your your your recollection of the fight >> was completely on for 2 hours that we were sitting there talking. So, you really feel like that even the phone the the phone my grandpa's phone >> Okay. >> It was on. I mean, though it tell your thing, you know what I'm saying? Like the only time we were gone for literally 1 hour, came back, you know what I'm saying? Like there was nothing. Like the thing that we were worried about >> everyone else but you saying he shot the guy? Why is everyone else but you saying he shot the >> I mean, obviously to protect themselves. You know what I'm saying? And I don't really I'm not here to like protect an individual. I'm here because yeah, I was involved. Yeah, I did get into a fight. Did I see somebody shoot somebody? No. He's with me. If there's a gun with him, I'm going to know there's a gun. I mean, it's not That doesn't make sense. That's why I'm saying that he's not. And I mean, you got to understand from my perspective how you guys will be there. You know what I'm saying? He's somebody that A doesn't belong here. He's a black male, you know what I'm saying? It's easy for a lot of things to go on him. You know what I'm saying? And with me, you know what I'm saying? I just I don't know what to do in this case. You know, I really don't. I hardly live my last 2 weeks of my life you know what I'm saying? Not knowing. Not knowing. Not having my sister call me. Not having my cousin call me. Not being able to call him like say anything except for I love you to my kids. I feel that. And if you guys are thinking I'm sitting here, oh well, this and that and na na na. Do I want to go to prison? No, I don't. You know what I'm saying? And am I going to be here and look after Steve as much as I can? I am. But at the end of the day, I just feel like it's more guilty until proven innocent. >> No, and and that's part of the reason why we're trying to get this here guys story straight because Okay, you said you graduated with a law degree. >> Mhm. >> So, let me ask you this. Hypothetical. You you have a gun on you. I have a knife. I'm coming at you. >> Mhm. >> Can you shoot me? >> Yes. >> So >> It's self-defense. >> Exactly. So, we we So, if that's what happened And that's just we don't know. We're getting the one half of the story. So, if he did do that and if that's >> That's what I would be fighting for. You know what I'm saying? If I for 1 second thought that he did shoot him, I would be sitting here trying to tell you guys how he wasn't wrong for that. You know? And I'm sure that you guys know I'm going to ask the right question. You know what I'm saying? I'm telling you the honest to God truth without oh well, we opened the door to this. We looked at each other and like we did this, we did that. You know, the moral of the story, me, Justin, Ivan, which is true, got out of the car and walked up there. When we got back into the car, he was still in there. He was still in there. So, if it came to the point with him getting out and doing all this extra stuff, why was he never seen? >> He was. >> By me. I'm the one right by the door. >> Well, you just said you do what you needed to do to protect them. >> I mean, but if I think that he's shooting, then why would I not be saying oh well, you know, like he was really just protecting himself. But I honestly to the bottom of my soul do not think that he's the one who did it. >> You did say that he got out of the car. I I don't want to keep going around in this. >> Yeah, I know, definitely. >> I'm just saying, from what every other party that we've talked to has consistently told us, you know the story. And when we talked to you, you said yeah, he stayed in the car. And then you said, well yeah, he got out of the car to help me out, but then you didn't see him. >> No, I never said he got out of the car to help me out. I did not say that to you. >> Did he have a gun? >> No, she said she he >> I said we said you were home. >> at home sleeping? I said no, he was not at >> We asked if we asked if she if he may have got out of the car. >> Sure. So, he may >> It would make sense if he saw you having a hard time with another girl. >> Would it make sense for him to get out of the car? Did I see him get out of the car? No. >> I just understood. I'm not trying to trick you. I mixed words. So, it would make sense that if he saw this happening, I'm assuming the car was parked fairly close. >> Uh no. >> Okay. It was a little ways away. Could he see from the car? >> No. >> Okay. Is that what everyone else is going to say? >> Yeah. The car was it was not in eye distance because when we got out there, we knew we were coming to fight. And we didn't want the individuals to know we were up there. >> Okay. >> We were in my sister's car, which I'm sure >> You never seen Steve with a gun? >> No. He's not allowed to be around guns. >> There's a lot of people that aren't allowed to do that things, but they still do it. You're not allowed to >> Oh yeah, that's what I'm trying to say, right? Yeah. I definitely did. >> [laughter] >> Well, I put the key in the ignition and I traveled with my amendment right. I have the right to travel. >> So, and So, you don't know anything about a gun? >> I don't. >> And you didn't see who shot who? Steve was there, but you don't know if he shot anybody. >> I didn't even see him get out of the car to be honest with you. Like a thousand percent I'm honest. >> Do Do you know if Ivan had guns or Jessica? >> No, I don't know. Well, all right. [ __ ] I'm lying. Okay, yes, we all love guns. We all love guns. We do. We go to the shooting range. I'm not going to act like I've never shot a gun before. >> Do you think it could have been Ivan that had a gun? >> No, there was no gun in the in the car. You know what I'm saying? Yeah, well, I mean, obviously. I mean, somebody's not going to be like, "Hey, look what I found." But no, I didn't see one. >> In the past In the past, you know all four of you have shotguns. >> I know all three of us have shotguns. I don't know. I don't know. Because I have seen them. You know what I'm saying? Like we would go together and shoot guns. So, therefore, my statement is true that do I know for a fact me, Jessica, and Ivan have shot a gun before? Yes. >> Did it surprise you to know that Ivan or Ivan Steve has a gun in his house in Mississippi? >> He has a gun in his house in Mississippi? No, I did not know that. And >> Cuz it was found. >> In his room? >> Does it sound like it could be the truth? >> I don't know. >> I told you we're not lying to you. >> But that's weird. Cuz I don't want to clean out their room. >> [snorts] >> And I don't know if >> Not good enough, apparently. >> Apparently. >> [laughter] >> Is there anything else you want us to know in the interest of helping you? All right. Do you have any questions? Well, I I think you know exactly where I'm trying to get at and I think I you know exactly what the truth that I want to hear come out of your mouth and then I I think you know exactly what I believe happened and what I've been told happened and what every other party has has told us that has occurred. And I guess in conclusion, I want I want to reiterate that realize he's here with or without you. >> But I mean, I would be wrong to say that I seen him do something. >> We're not We're not We're not We're not saying that you don't I don't want you saying something that you didn't see. But if there was conversa- I think there was probably conver- I'm thinking that I believe that there was conversation after the fact because there were a lot of other eyes even within your group. Your your recollection of just the fight is crystal clear. >> No, I mean like after that happened, all I did with him is argue. I'm not saying like I I just I wasn't happy. I was mad about the whole like, you know what I'm saying? Like I'm in Ohio, you know what I'm saying? Like just everything was kind of going wrong. >> Well, I'm just saying, you guys had some adrenaline pumping, you were focused in this fight. So, I'm not saying you saw the shooting. That's out of the picture. You were in the in the instant that you personally were involved in, the altercation with this one girl, you were clear and you had clear memory of how that fight happened. I'm sure that Jessica had a different perspective. She saw snippets of you. She saw snippets in her mind's eye when she recalls it as to what occurred. I even had a different perspective. >> would Jessica have a perspective if Jessica was fighting behind cars? >> I'm not saying perspective of the shooting. I'm saying of the incident, of the fight. >> Like No, like even her seeing me, like it wasn't >> No, you're You're dealing with you. Jessica's dealing with Jessica. >> We're not saying that it changes much. >> I'm saying Ivan's dealing with Ivan. So, you guys each have your own personal issues to deal with. Your personal You're all battling someone else. >> Yeah. >> So, your perspectives are different. >> [snorts] >> But I I can't see that out of everyone involved that not one of the people in your group saw what happened with the actual victim that we have down on the ground. So, I have to think after the fact that there was some conversation about what you saw, comparing notes. When I go on with with second spitzer and other officers, when I get into a an arrest that was nasty or an incident that's heated, we talk about it. And and I'm like, I didn't know that. I didn't see this this is what I was doing. Wow, man, I didn't know that happened. >> Now, we have we have not spoke about it. We don't like ever since that night like I have not spoke to Jessica. I spoke to you the one time. But I mean, it was just I mean, I had talked to Jessica just to tell her like I love you. And other than that, I mean >> Again, I don't want to make you say something that you didn't see, but I think I think you know what I'm trying to get at. And I'm telling you that every other recollection of this event is what you said plus Steven shot our victim. So, what I again and what I was trying to conclude with or let you know is as you have time to consider this, just realize like I said, Steven's here with or without you. You're here because you helped them or you're not here potentially because you told us the truth. >> I'm telling you the truth. I know that you know, I didn't tell you the truth about my truck. And I know that I said that he was at home asleep. But you know, the gist of the conversation is when I left the car he was in the car. When I came back to the car he was in the car. >> And we don't we don't deny that. I mean, we don't disagree with that at all. We think you're telling us the I I totally believe that everything you said about that. The question that we have is >> Has he talked about it since then? >> And that's what the question is. So, >> No. But I mean, you got to think about it. When I when I got to Ohio, I was working from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. You know what I'm saying? Every single day. >> It's a 5-hour It's a 5-hour drive. >> but he's not with me. You know what I'm saying? And then he's working mornings. We're completely on opposite ends. >> It's a 5-hour 6-hour car ride. I mean, I mean, that's not that exciting. We talked a lot. >> Oh, no. It's not. No, I had my I was just playing my music the whole time down there and I just kept on like shaking my head. And I just like we never really talked about that. And >> If you after today, >> Well, what Probably about Tuesday, I think. Um >> So, you guys are transferring me from here to where? >> Well, you're going to be arraigned. Um probably Monday. Yeah. Um but on Tuesday, the actual >> Wednesday, yeah. the um lead detective in this case that knows more about it than what we even what we do. Um, he's probably going to want to talk to you again Tuesday. And if he does, he'll ask you just like we did, would you want to talk to us and go through If you say yes, go through the Miranda rights and all of that. But in that time, just if there's anything else you can think of. >> like no matter what you guys are going to try like saying that I didn't fight him. >> Okay, you You've been charged with that already. That's what the That's what this charge is. Now, as you know, you you're got your law degree, so you know there's a lot of steps before it gets to trial. So, you have a chance to call your attorney, you get a chance to talk to the prosecutor and all of that. >> And my lawyer's in Florida. >> And you can always get a court-appointed for the time being until that to your lawyer gets back or whatever. But anyhow, you have a lot of opportunities for this to go away before it gets to a trial. So, in that period of time, if you think of something else that can help you, >> I just completely told you guys the truth, so >> I'm not saying you're lying, dude. I'm just saying if you think of something else because as you have time to sit and think, something else may pop up in your head you may want to know about that. >> Angela, if you All right. You know what I want to know. You know that there's What I want to know is the truth you told me plus the other details that he he might know. So, if you The other detective is Detective Thomas. He's a great friend of mine. Good guy. He's going to shoot you straight. If you have any inclination to have a conversation with me further or Detective Spitz, you can say I want to talk to this guy and this guy and we'll come in and talk to you. If you don't, we won't. >> So, when am I being released? Am I being released? >> You're going to like it's They're going to arraign you on They'll arraign you on Monday probably. After the arraignment, you'll probably be moved on to Ingham County. Um, when you're arraigned on Monday, they're going to give you a pretrial date. Your pretrial date's going to be within what? A week or 10 days, maybe 2 weeks tops. And then at the pretrial date, it's the day that they basically have to determine whether whether this is a legitimate case and it's going to continue to trial. It And and things they can offer plea deals uh less you know, dependent on criminal history, what the case is, what the charge is, they can offer a lesser offense to avoid a trial. So, in this instance, yes, that's exactly what's going to happen. You'll be here for the weekend, we can hold you up to 72 hours. On Monday, you'll be arraigned, probably transferred to county, but you'll know your pre-trial date. >> So, I'm not going to PR bond, not possible. >> No. So, right now, before you it's a big deal. This I I I can't stress enough, this $100,000 just kind of highlights how big of a deal this is. >> When they issue a warrant, >> the judge writes her the Yeah, the judge writes in what the interim bond is. So, if you want to get out, the judge writes down a certain amount. >> I'm not paying nothing. >> I'm just saying, that's how you get >> I mean, I just spent $12,000 last year with [ __ ] cops, and I just want to know >> For what? >> For everything. [clears throat] For driving with a suspended license. >> So, so $100,000 is right now. On Monday, when you get arraigned, the judge can change that. They can change that to whatever >> It ain't going to be changed. I know you guys are going to like try holding me as long as possible, and that's not going to happen. So, what? I mean, I don't care. Whatever. This just isn't making sense to me. >> In the 2018 East Lansing, Michigan case, Angela Kelly was charged with accessory after the fact to a felony in the death of Isai Barronas. A plea hearing was scheduled for February 20th, 2020. The final plea or verdict, conviction, sentence, and current status of Angela Kelly are not verified in available public records.
