So, you were talking about bruises on Chelsea's >> hand hand. >> Yeah. Is it on both hands or just the Which hand is it on? >> I believe her right. >> And that wasn't there >> No. >> prior to whatever happened with Layla? >> On March 16th, 2024 in Wayne, Michigan, Chelsea Duperon's boyfriend, Daniel, was brought in for questioning in connection with the death of Layla Cassell, who had died as a result of blunt force trauma at the home they shared. Spoiler details are in the video description, and the full results of all charges in the case are laid out at the end of the video. >> Why are we here? >> This whole [ __ ] situation, dude. And I mean, I can start from the beginning, you know, me and Chelsea have been going through issues in our relationship, and I've been asking her, you know what? It's like we're not happy here. It's my house, and it's like you got to leave. You got to go somewhere else and live your life, do what it is that you want to do to be happy. >> And Chelsea is your girlfriend at this point? >> Layla's mother. >> Okay. And how long have you been with Chelsea? >> About 4 years. >> Okay. When did she move into the house with you? >> When >> [snorts] >> So, probably a month after I got, you know, finalized paperwork and everything, and you know, the whole reason I got the house was cuz I was trying to build a family with her, you know, and when we got together, you know, that's just where we were. >> So, you've been dating her 4 years. How long have you guys been living together, would you say? >> Damn, you know, about the whole entire of the relationship. Yeah. >> Okay. And you guys were having issues now? >> Right. I mean, we pri- previously other stuff, and so, she had been She left for cuz Layla had um well, the second winter break. So, she's at her sister's house, and then she comes back and I'm trying to think like specific times. So that weekend she left I left. I went out my dad last Saturday and Sunday or not Sunday, Saturday. And so when I come home I'm home Saturday night by myself. Sunday she comes back from I believe she was either at her mother's or somewhere. And so same word she's back. Monday comes around Lida goes to school. Everything's just as it always is. You know what I'm saying? Just normal. And then Tuesday I think that's when she's running around with her freaking friend, you know, helping him out. >> When you say she >> the Chelsea >> Okay. >> And you know, we had already had a discussion where it's like you it's like you need to start moving forward with moving out. You know, and getting your life together cuz we can't do this together anymore. And then Wednesday So she comes home Tuesday night at 10:00. And I'm like, you know, what's going on? And she's, you know, complaining about her friend this and that blah blah blah. And then we start arguing and before I know it it's midnight. I'm like, this is Tuesday night. I'm like, I'm going to bed. You know, so what does she wake me up at 2:00 in the morning to keep arguing? And then I'm like, just leave me alone. And then before I know it's 5:00. I got to get up and go to work. I go to work Wednesday morning. I come home from work. Well, when I left work I went to U-Haul. I have the receipts. I have the boxes I got I was getting her boxes so she could start packing her stuff. And then also stopped at Taco Bell on the way back. I pull up to the house. She's already standing there outside the door. This is Wednesday. I'm getting home from work. I got her boxes, you know. At this point she's like pointing into the house and I walk in and Layla's laying there on the floor all swelled up. And I'm like, "What?" >> What time did you get home on Wednesday? >> I you know, 3:00, somewhere around there. No later than 3:30 I should say. And then >> So Just to go back. So you leave Wed- Wednesday morning, what time did you leave? >> 5:30, 5:45. >> And when you left Layla was Yeah. Okay, sleeping in her bedroom or >> Chelsea woke her up early cuz she didn't take a shower the previous night. Like I said, it was Tuesday. They got home late. So Layla didn't take a shower or do a normal, you know, nightly routine. And I'm like, "What the heck?" Chelsea's like, "She'll just do it in the morning." So Chelsea wakes Layla up when I'm leaving. >> So did you Did you actually see her when >> Yeah, she was sitting there on the couch when I was leaving. But I'm mad at Chelsea for, you know, she woke me up at 2:00 a.m. to argue. I got to get up in 3 hours to go to work so I didn't say anything. I didn't say anything to anybody. Got my work clothes on and left. I mean, this is 5:30 in the morning. And then like I'm saying, I come home after I went and got boxes, I went and got food for myself. I come home. She's standing there outside the side door. You know, looking like something's going on. So I'm walking up and she's like I walk in Layla's laying there on the kitchen floor. There's [ __ ] water everywhere. You know, like my kitchen's flooded. Chelsea's going on about how she was possessed and this and that. I'm like, "What are you talking about?" You know what I'm saying? Like this is Never have You know what I'm saying? It's like just out of nowhere. And I'm I'm like, "Chelsea, like what happened?" And she just keeps insisting on this [ __ ] you know, spirit, witch, demon, whatever. I'm asking Layla. I was like, "Are you okay? Can you hear me?" You know what I'm saying? She can hear me. She's responding. I'm like, "Dude, I don't, you know, I don't know what to do." And I'm like telling her. I was like, "If this if she was my blood child, it's like I'd already have the cops here. You're gone. She's in, you know." And it's like I don't know what to do. I'm not a legal guardian. She's not my child. But it's like when talking to the cop earlier, it's like, "Dude, if I could have just [ __ ] manned up and just took charge, then maybe we wouldn't [ __ ] be here. Or maybe we would, but it wouldn't be under these circumstances. You know what I'm saying?" >> Yeah. >> And then so we get I get the towel all my towels. I mop up the freaking kitchen. It's It flooded so bad. It went down into my basement. You know, the water. I'm asking her, "What is the water from?" She tells me uh it's from my It was from Layla when she was freaking out. And I'm like cuz she's saying that so she was possessed. That's her That's what she keeps going to. And I'm like, "Dude, I don't [ __ ] believe a word you're saying." And I say, "What's the water from?" She says, "It's from Layla." Then she says, "Well, I splashed a little on her face." And I'm like, "Chelsea, the freaking kitchen's flooded. The basement's flooded. It went down my vent into my furnace. I'm thinking the furnace is ruined." So at this point, it's like get Layla up and put her in bed because it's like I she's just laying there in the kitchen. And then I you know >> And what injuries are you seeing on Layla at this point? >> Her face. Swollen eyes. Swollen head, bruises. And I'm, you know, and that's what I'm asking. I was like, "What happened?" And she keeps going with this story. And I don't, you know. So, Thursday after we got her, I laid her down in bed. And then you know, I'm arguing with Chelsea. I'm like, "This is, you know, you're not making any sense. This isn't This isn't right. I'm like, she should need medical attention." And Chelsea seemed scared because it's like she doesn't know what's going to happen with, you know, if what would happen if she did take her to the hospital. And then you know, if you see her hand, like I'm saying, her hand, this whole arm here is swollen, red, bruised. I'm like, "Chelsea, you can't sit here and say that you didn't [ __ ] hit her in any way." And then Thursday I get up, I go to work. >> And then did you did you check on her before you went to work? >> Yeah. Before I left, she was still, you know, yes, swollen, but there, you know, conscious, acknowledging, talking. And I'm, you know, I don't know what to do. And it's like, you're the mother It's like, this is your child. And you're not going to do, you know what I'm saying? Take her to the hospital or or ask for help. Or And that's what I said the whole time. You're saying that her story that says it started in the morning early. I'm like, "So, you're dealing with this supposed possession, whatever your, you know, your story is. And not once did you call for help, leave the house, you know, at call anybody for anything." And then I come home. >> Hold up. I'm just making sure I'm getting my Because it was only 2 days. So then it was either Wednesday night she came home because it was two nights of Layla being swollen, injured. You know. And so Friday night I get home last night Layla's conscious, talking, answering. And then same conversation with Chelsea. I'm like, "Dude, you got to [ __ ] figure this out. You know what I'm saying? It's like what am I supposed to do here?" And then I fall asleep cuz I'm working all week. Finally get to take a nap. And then when I wake up later on that night, Chelsea's telling me Layla's not breathing. >> And this is Friday night? >> This is Saturday morning. When she then she wakes me up and says Layla's not breathing. So I rush in there. Of course she's not. I'm freaking out. I'm say I call 911. She calls 911. They say, "Can you administer uh CPR? Put her on a hard surface." So I take her out of the bed and put her on the ground. And it's just nothing. And then they got there really quick. And as soon as they got in there they're like, "There's nothing that we can do." And then so they're asking me, they're asking her, I'm talking. And they tell me, "Come down, make a statement for your protection." And then they [ __ ] lock me up and don't say nothing to me. And then I'm looking I'm talking I'm trying to get somebody to come and talk to me. They're like, "When the detective comes, he'll talk to you." And I'm talking to the guy and I'm like, "You're looking When's that going to be?" He's like, "Could be could be tomorrow. Could be the next day." I'm like, "So I'm hearing indefinitely." And I'm telling them like, "You're looking at me like I [ __ ] did this, dude." And he you know. I'm like, "Look at my Look at my [ __ ] hands." He's like, "Yes, this is from work. I'm a welder. Look at her hand. And I'm freaking the [ __ ] out because this This isn't just a, you know, this isn't something small. >> No, and that's why it took us a minute to come talk to you cuz I had to know what's going on before I can come talk to you. >> [sighs] >> So, from your statement, has Chelsea had these episodes before? >> She's not anything like this. Not any, you know, a little bit. But not like the way she described it. That, you know, that morning they got up and everything is she's what she's describing was going on. Never. Nothing like that. >> Has she ever hurt Layla before? >> No. That's why it was like, what the [ __ ] But for her to sit there and insist that this whole, you know, story that she's telling me is what unfolded and I'm like, I don't [ __ ] believe a word of it. It's like, maybe you [ __ ] lost your mind and attacked her. I asked Layla when I came home after the first day. So, it had to have been Wednesday night that they came home and then I have the receipt for the boxes. And that was when I was coming home and when I got home from getting the boxes, that's when I found all this. You know, she's laying there on the I was like, why didn't she Did she not go to school? Why didn't you send her to school? She's saying that all this started, you know, they're up at 5:30 in the morning. >> So, she said Layla didn't go to school on Wednesday as far as you know. >> Right. >> But she was up when you got up cuz she's in the shower cuz she's supposed to take a shower. >> Right. Do her morning routine to get ready for school, but it's like you woke her up that early to do that. And then, so after the first day I came home and when I came home I talked to Layla, and I said, "I need to know what happened, Layla. I need you to tell me what happened." She proceeds to tell me that, "Mom was listening to her music, then she got all crazy, and, you know, hurt me." And I'm like, "Well, do you" cuz Chelsea says they were went down something about the basement. And I was like, "Do you remember being in the basement?" She says, "Yeah, I went down there to hide from Mom, and she tricked me into coming out, and then she started pouring the water on her and [ __ ] like that." And I'm just like, "Um Chelsea, why would you How are you going to sit here and tell me that what you's what you're saying when I'm asking her?" And Layla has previous experience, you know, and that's what was >> Previous experience with what? >> Her biological father touched her when she was a baby, and Layla spoke about it as, you know, 3 years old, something like that. And then they went through that whole process, you know, she was taken to a counselor, they asked her all these questions, and what she said, he lost his legal rights as a as the father. >> Okay. >> And then he would tell >> is? >> Josh. >> Do you know his last name is? >> Josh Castle. I believe. >> But he as far as you know, he's got no rights or anything like >> He has no legal rights because of what had happened. >> Okay. >> And then It's just so [ __ ] it's so out of this world that you never would have thought. >> Does Chelsea have any medical conditions like bipolar or anything that you're aware of? Is she taking any medications or anything? >> No. But it's like it's always this, you know what I'm saying? And that's why I was like, "I'm just We're two adults here, and we both need to agree that this is not a healthy relationship, and we should go our separate ways." But I purchased this home. This is my house. And you're the one that's got to pack your stuff and go. And that's what I'm saying. I was coming home from work. We had already discussed. I had the boxes. And then I walk in and Layla's laying there on the kitchen floor. And I'm just like, what the [ __ ] >> So other than talking to her, Layla, I mean, could you She was in a diaper? Do you know that was about >> She was saying that she couldn't get up to use the bathroom. And I'm like, Chelsea, you got to get her up. You know, and I told Chelsea multiple times that you should take her to the hospital. But it's like I should have just said, screw you, whatever the consequences for you are, and just took her to the damn hospital. Then we wouldn't [ __ ] be here. And it's just Layla said something about it, I believe. I don't know if Chelsea suggested it or Layla said, can I use a diaper? Or something along that lines. >> Okay, cuz you came home Wednesday. She's on the floor in the kitchen. >> It was either Wednesday or Thursday. I have the receipt for the boxes. >> Okay. And then you pick her up and you take her >> in her room. >> I mean, was she ever mobile after? >> Yeah, she did after so they wanted they tried the diaper thing and Chelsea did get her up. She said that she has sat up. She stood up. I watched Chelsea take walk her into the bathroom to use the bathroom. And it's like I'm just hoping that this whole time is just maybe you know, swollen injuries. Nothing to the extent of what is what has actually taken place. That maybe, you know, if she just rests and ices it and everything will be fine. >> Okay. >> And it's like I just don't >> Did you reach out and talk to anybody about this? like >> No. >> Holy crap, this is what I got going on at home. No, just kind of kept it to yourself. You know, Chelsea reached out for any family or anything? Cuz who was she close with in her family? >> Her mom and her sister. >> What is your sister's name? >> Uh I don't know why I'm drawing a blank right now. Britney. >> Britney is your sister? >> Britney. >> [sighs and gasps] >> And so who made the 911 call this morning? You? >> Chelsea. >> Chelsea did from your phone? >> She woke me up. Yeah, she woke me up, said Lyle's not breathing. I rushed in there. Like I said, I'm checking. I I instantly I say call 911. Instantly. And they shout alerts, you know, can you uh Chelsea says my daughter's not breathing. They say, "Can you administer CPR? Get, you know, put her on a hard you know, a solid surface." And that's when I took her out of the bed. And then they you know, they every everybody was there so quick. You know, by the time I put a couple pumps in and blew in, you know, they're like, "Can you open the door for the for the officers and the paramedics?" And then I'm talking to these guys. Chelsea doesn't want They They're like, "You're the most uh forthcoming right now. You're the one who's, you know, working with us." They're like, "You should come down and do a statement for your protection." And then instantly they [ __ ] Not instantly, but you know, throw me in there, take my clothes, fingerprint me, book me under [ __ ] child abuse. And it's like I could I'm not capable to do something like that. And then like I said, the guy's [ __ ] I mean I'm just asking to talk to somebody just so I can have some kind of, you know, clarification on what's really going on. >> Well, I was I mean obviously Layla is dead and so we have to do an investigation in the event. >> But like I'm saying, the guy's looking at me like he's like you [ __ ] did this. >> Do you know if Layla was eating anything since the incident? >> I think she tried and Chelsea got her some of those chocolate protein, you know. >> So she was trying to get food in her. Um Does Layla have a cell phone? >> No. >> No. >> [sighs] >> Uh then do you have a passcode on your cell phone? >> Yeah. >> Can I get that? >> Yeah. >> Is it like a finger or is it a number? >> A number. >> What's the numbers? >> 7534 5 What's this last one? 4 753 >> Yeah. >> 753654 >> 753654 >> As I got even told her because it's like I'm at work and it's just spinning in my head and I'm telling her it's like you got to [ __ ] explain to help me what [ __ ] happened. Like this isn't making any [ __ ] sense. She tells me one thing and then it changes into this and it's just like and I even told her it was like you were you were counting the way you're remembering the [ __ ] chain of events is changing, you know? And like I said first she said the water is from Layla, then she said she splashed a little on her face and it's like no, dude, the kitchen's flooded. The base the it went down into the basement. It's how much water. Yeah. >> Um So you were talking about bruises on Chelsea's >> hand >> hand >> Yeah. >> Is it on both hands or just the which hand is it on? >> I believe her right. >> And that wasn't there >> No. >> prior to whatever happened with Layla? >> No. >> Um >> So I'm talking up to here. Like just her whole hand swollen and red. >> And then she had like some kind of weird blister on her thumb. Is that >> I don't know. I even I was like what's up with what happened to your thumb? She was like I don't know. You know. >> All right. I think I saw some photos of her and her knees are pretty bruised up. Yeah. You don't know if >> from her kneeling on the on the floor in the kitchen. Whatever, you know, I don't know if it where it is all from. >> don't know, I don't want you to speculate. >> Right. >> But they weren't there before? >> No. >> So as far as you can tell this came from and nothing happened in the days So as far as you know those injuries are from whatever happened. >> Mhm. >> Okay. And so you mentioned that you brought up I mean you were obviously thinking maybe I should call 911 to take her to the hospital. Did you ever make those statements to Chelsea? >> Yes. >> And what was her response? >> She would cry. She said she's like basically that she's scared. She doesn't know what to do. I said I don't know what to do. You know, if I would have just [ __ ] said [ __ ] you Chelsea and did it then we wouldn't be sitting here. >> But she was more concerned about the ramifications for her than getting >> I don't I can't answer to that. That's just my That's how I interpret it. >> it and she was more concerned about what she was saying. >> what would happen and I held I felt some of the same concern because I'm not a legal guardian. Her family is you know, a whole mess. She's already lost the father's already lost the rights as in where what would have what would you know, go to foster care? And then from there, I don't know. And this is God almighty. >> Who uh notified the school? Who called the school? What did you guys tell him? >> I don't I don't know if she did or didn't. >> Okay. Um when I listened to the 911 call, uh you both talked about the fact that Layla fell on the steps. >> I didn't say anything. I didn't say anything about that. That's what she you know, cuz she was worried about her consequences I think. I had never stated that. When >> Why didn't you say something to change anything? She was talking to the 911 caller then talking to the police. >> I was more concerned I'm sitting over Layla at this point when she's on the phone. >> Mhm. >> Or even when she was talking to the police and I told her I was like you need to [ __ ] talk. You know what I'm saying? And that's when the officer was like come talk with me outside. And then we've been separated since. >> Where did the diapers come from? >> She went got them. >> She went got them, you didn't? >> No. >> Um So, why didn't you call somebody? >> I don't know. I just like if I could have just [ __ ] >> If you saw an 8-year-old with those injuries laying or sitting somewhere anywhere would you have called the police? >> You know, I just like of course. >> You You uh mentioned uh what was it? Uh Tuesday. Who was Where [snorts] was Layla? Let's Let's start When you got home >> Saturday. >> Were you by yourself? >> All right. >> Okay. Walk me through Sunday. You said Sunday she comes back. Who comes back? >> I believe Chelsea and Layla came back Sunday. >> Were you home? >> Yes. >> Who Okay, did they both come back or just one? >> Yes. No, both. >> Okay. And where And you're not sure where they came back from or do you know? >> It was either her sister's or her mom's. That's, you know, the normal two places. >> Okay. That's where they go. Um Were you guys Oh. At what point were you guys talking about her moving out? >> We've been talking about it for a long time now. >> Okay. >> And then it's always this constant back and forth. Uh you know, I'm stupid enough to think maybe things will get better. And then it never [ __ ] does. >> Um All right. How about this? We'll We'll start from when the police were there. We'll We'll We're going to work try to work backwards here. So the police show up. Before that, Chelsea calls 911. During the 911 call Do you remember the 911 call? >> Other than hearing her say that my daughter is not breathing. >> Okay. >> And then >> What's >> Go ahead. >> What So was Was Layla breathing at that time? >> No. >> That Do you remember getting woken up that morning? Would be this morning. >> This morning, yes. >> Was Layla breathing >> When she woke me up, no. >> All right. When did you go to sleep before that? >> I They asked me that earlier and it's like I just can't I don't have a specific time. It was Friday. I didn't have to worry about getting up for work. You know, I laid down and took a nap earlier that day on the couch. >> All right. What time What do you remember What was the last thing you were doing Friday night? >> Lying on the couch watching TV. That's where I You know, it's like >> What were you watching? >> Forged in Fire or The Office. You know, it's just antenna. >> Were you on your phone? >> I mean Instagram, maybe something like that. I talked to my dad earlier yesterday. >> I was just like right before you went to bed. Did you go through >> Not about Not when Not when I was talking to my dad. >> Yeah, I know. Just right before you went to bed, were you on your phone? Were you going through Instagram, looking at the reels? >> Somewhere around there, but I was you know, watching just watched TV and fell asleep on the couch. >> You fell asleep on the couch. Is that where you woke up? >> Yeah. >> Um before that What were you doing? What When did you Did you have dinner? Did you get go to the restroom? Like order out? Tell me about your day. Going backwards. >> I I got I ate, you know, when I got home from work, that's normally when I eat. I don't eat lunch. >> All right. You get home what time? >> 3:00. You know, if I go straight home, I'm home by 3:00. If I make a stop somewhere, then it's, you know, 3:10, 3:30, something like that. I I work close. >> Mhm. Uh all right. Did you So, you got something to eat after that? >> Yeah, home. >> Mhm. >> Like made myself something to eat. >> Okay, do you remember what? >> Nachos. I made a plate of nachos. And then uh some ramen. Snacks. >> Okay, what was Chelsea doing? >> She was napping, but she was still checking on Layla. I'm expressing concern. You know, Chelsea wanted me to stop and get some ice. And so, I got ice for, you know, hopefully it's all the thinking and maybe she's just bruised up and that swelling will go down and everything will be [ __ ] fine. So, I got a bag of ice from the Dollar Store on my way home from work yesterday. >> Mhm. >> [clears throat] >> And then it's like, Chelsea, are you aren't you going to, you know, give a bag of ice to her? And, you know, >> All right. So, Layla was sleeping in her bed? >> Yes. >> Um did she Did you talk to her at all Friday? >> Only briefly. I'm just I'm so frustrated with Chelsea. And it's like, I don't know I didn't know what to do. >> Did you talk to Layla before or after you had nachos? >> I don't >> Did you talk to her at all? >> I'm sure I I leaned in and just asked if she was okay or, you know, >> And did she say, "Yep, I'm I'm good."? >> After that, what happened? >> She went in and Chelsea left to get the I think the protein shake, and I went in there and I checked with her and I asked if she was okay. How do you feel? You know, she asked where is Mom. I said she went to the store. And I said, "Are you okay?" She says, "I'm okay." >> She said she's okay. You know how hard that is to believe? That actually happened. Do you know what we do for a living? >> Yeah. >> You're a welder. So, that's something you're probably really good at, right? You probably have a smooth weld. You don't get any of those little bubbles or anything in there, anything weird like that. It's probably the perfect circles. Something I can't do, right? >> Took welding in in high school, terrible at it. >> But you want to know something I'm really good at? This right here. This is what we do, him and I, all day, every day. This is our job, is to talk to people. All right? Go to trainings all across the country. Um, and I have a vast more experience of sitting across the table next to talking to people. I I used to do uh crisis intervention calls and stuff like that. I'm a good read of people, and I can tell when you're telling me the truth and when you're leaving some stuff out. >> I'm just trying to account. I mean, you're telling me saying to go backwards. >> I know. Um, right now I don't think you're telling me the complete truth. >> What is it that I'm not What do I know? What do I have to >> Lila didn't tell you she's okay. All right? So, if you're going to lie to me about something >> Sir, sir, please no. I'm not >> There's other details that we're we're missing. Just trying to get those details. So, um I don't for a fraction of a second believe she said she's okay. I'm not saying that makes you a a person. I think you're trying to I don't know. Trying to work with what happened here, all right? Obviously, something happened when you were at work with Chelsea and Layla. All right? What I want to know what you know, and I don't want you to exaggerate and tell me that Layla told you that she was okay if she didn't tell you that cuz I can't an 8-year-old child with the injuries that she sustained was not is not going to say the words I'm okay. She's just not I'm sorry. >> I'm I'm not lying to you, sir. If I'm not accounting it accurately, I apologize. >> Yep. Did she say she was okay? Let's start there. Did you ask her or did you just look to make sure she was breathing? >> No, I went in there and talked with her when Chelsea went to get these damn protein shakes yesterday. >> Okay. Uh did she get the protein shakes cuz Layla hasn't been eating anything? >> Mhm. >> Okay. Did she ever get Layla to eat drink these protein shakes? >> Not that I know of. >> Okay. Um so, from Wednesday morning until the police got there, we're not sure if Layla was even able to eat. All right. Um and it appears that Layla wasn't able to go to the bathroom by herself. All right. Um and she has severe facial trauma. All right. But, she said on Friday that she's okay. An 8-year-old who hasn't ate anything since Wednesday morning, severe facial trauma. And bruises all over her body, said she [snorts] was okay on Friday. >> Sir, I'm sorry. >> Just I'm just asking you to >> I'm sorry, dude, but it's like you can't sit here and say that I [ __ ] did this. >> I'm not. I'm not saying that you did it to her, all right? What I'm trying to stress to you is the importance of don't tell us a little lie about something over here. >> I can't account the 100% accuracy. I apologize. >> Okay. >> But I'm sure when I talked with her and she's had asked me, "Where is mom?" I said, "At the store." And I said, "How are you feeling?" And she says, "It's not It's not like she said, I you know, anything other than to the extent of I'm okay." Maybe those weren't her exact words, but it wasn't >> She said she's okay. >> But it's >> Oh my god, dude. >> Is um Is it Is there any cuz we haven't gone through everything. Um Has there been any uh abuse or CPS involvement involving Layla in the past? >> Other than what what the incident with her biological father, but no. >> Okay. Um When we talk to Chelsea, is there any reason that she's going to say you did this? >> I don't know. She was talking crazy the night before talking about she's going to burn my house down. But I wouldn't you know. Like I'm saying, I left for work. She woke her up to get ready for school. I came home from work and found and walked into this situation. >> Mhm. Um >> So if she's telling the truth, >> No. >> There's no [ __ ] way she's going to say that I did this. >> When When did she say she was going to burn your house down? >> The night that they got back late, 10:00 around that time, you know, we're arguing or she had said this. There's so many [ __ ] arguments. It's like I can't just pinpoint it exactly. And it's like she just starts saying this craziest [ __ ] >> All right. Um I looked there's some past reports of uh maybe one. I I can't remember, but >> I called when she blew out my window in the bed in the bedroom. >> Okay. >> And then yeah, she had called. She's threatening me that she's going to call the cops. I'm telling her, "Call the [ __ ] cops." Like I'm not you know. >> Looks like she might have called once. >> Right. And then they come and I'm saying I was like, "Can you please ask her to leave? Like what what is this? You know what I'm saying? This is my house." And they're like, "Well, technically cuz it's her address you can't just kick her out. You got to go get an eviction notice and file all these papers and do all this shit." >> Yeah. I'm not saying that system is very correct, but that is the system we have right there. Right there. What PD was that with? >> I don't Where were you living at? It had to have been this one. >> You were Oh, you were living in Wayne? Was that the same house? >> Yes. >> Okay. What was her allegation when she called the police? >> That I was being, you know, aggressive or something to that extent or, you know, >> Did you assault her or touch her or >> No, sir. That is not who I am. Maybe I, you know, told her push her out the door and said like, "Go." But never, you know what I'm saying? Never hit her. And that's why it's like this whole >> [snorts] >> so [ __ ] up situation. >> Would there be any reason for people to say that you do hit Chelsea on a regular basis? >> Other than the neighbors across that not uh directly across, but these ones over here that, you know, that's just I don't Yeah, I'm sure somebody would say something like that, but it's not the truth. You know what I'm saying? And it's like if it is the truth, why do you stay with me? I tell I'm asking you to leave. I'm saying I'm not happy. I don't want to be with you anymore. It's like please move on with your life, move out. But I'm I'm I'm an abuser. I physically abuse my significant other. And she's going to stay even though I'm asking her to leave. It's like >> Why do you think those neighbors would say that? Just >> I mean to be blunt, it's they're ignorant. That's just dumb. They always [ __ ] want to interject or try to think they [ __ ] It's like >> Why they said something to you guys before? >> I I gotten into it with her brother. You know, and Chelsea it was the same scenario from the trailer park we lived in in Flat Rock where she's drinking. She's always had a [ __ ] drinking problem. And then I'm concerned that she's over there. It's like I'm at work all day, no home cooked meals, sleep alone, you're across the street drinking at the neighbor's house. You know. But no, I've never hit her. But I'm not going to sit here and say that these, you know, nosey ass [ __ ] that don't like me wouldn't would say that I have. You know what I'm saying? >> So the neighbors Chelsea drinks with. >> Not anymore. They haven't They don't have a friendship relationship like that anymore. >> Um a couple more hard questions. So with cases like these, we obviously do a full um investigation. Would there be any reason why we'd see signs of sexual trauma on Layla? >> No. There shouldn't be any. >> But say let's say we did. Would there be any reason your DNA >> No, sir. No, sir. >> Um So so you've been beefing with use the word beefing, but you've you've been in conflict with Chelsea for a little while. >> Yes. >> And is that going to be documented like in text messages and stuff? Would it be Would it be Would we be able to see a pattern of that? Okay. At any point did she text you about Layla in the past couple days saying >> Like I had asked, you know, cuz I'm at work and it's concerning. Is she okay? Is she talking? Has she eaten? You know what I'm saying? What is she doing? What are you doing? You know? >> So you did send her text messages? >> I We Yes, we texted back and forth. >> Is there anything else that we would find when we go through your phone that would >> Other than me telling her that I hate her and I hate this [ __ ] situation and I can't [ __ ] believe anything you [ __ ] say. >> At any point did you say, "Hey, you need to get her to the hospital?" >> No. These were things that we always said in person. I said it as soon as I came home and I was like, "She could need [ __ ] medical attention." Like >> Is there anything that we just didn't ask that you want to tell us? Something we're not thinking of. >> I mean, we basically covered everything from the you know. >> What did she So you mentioned she had you pick up ice. Did she Did you have to pick up anything else? Like to help for her care or aid after the incident? >> Um No. Other than, you know, I got the [ __ ] boxes so they could move out. >> Yeah, I mean, we've been over that, but like Neosporin, I mean >> Yes. >> Gauze pads or anything like that? Did you >> Yes, some Neosporin. >> Okay. >> It's like, does that make me wrong? >> For what? >> Getting Neosporin? >> No, I'm just asking. >> It's like [ __ ] She could have just left and gone and lived her life, and now I'm sitting here with my life about to go in the [ __ ] [ __ ] >> Well, I'll be on I'll be on the >> And Lila doesn't have one. >> Mhm. >> Well, I don't get to decide what happens here. I collect all the information, and somebody else makes the ultimate decision. You understand that, right? So, >> Can I speak with an attorney, please? >> Yeah. Mhm. That's what Yeah. >> Chelsea Renee Duperon was originally charged in March 2024 with felony murder and first-degree child abuse in Wayne County, Michigan in the death of her daughter, Lila Castle.
