Is there anything surrounding Kendra's death that you specifically remember that you haven't told me or >> I still don't convinced that it was my [ __ ] >> Why don't you think that? >> Cuz from when the day I went there, it was 2 days later that she died. >> On June 7th, 2021, in New London, Wisconsin, April Hartigan was taken into custody in connection with the death of Kendra Ratteo, who had died as a result of a drug overdose. Spoiler details are in the video description, and the full results of all charges in the case are laid out at the end of the video. >> I can't obviously promise you anything, but um you can want to talk about Kendra or the circumstances surrounding it? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Well, what would you like to tell me about? >> Um >> What happened? >> I I don't know what happened. I just I know that I seen messages and stuff saying that she was trying to kill herself. I don't know if that makes it any better for me or not, but >> [snorts] >> You see messages from who? >> From Kendra to other people saying that she was going to buy heroin and try to end her life. >> Okay. And who did you see or hear that from? >> Um Nick Jonas has messages from her. Um there's like three other people who have messages from her, and she was like crying out for help. >> Okay. And were you guys friends? >> Yeah. >> How did you know her? How did you meet? What was What's kind of the background of >> I live I've lived in New London for a while, and >> [snorts] >> I'm known her for a long time, I guess. Um She lived right up the road from me. And >> Where'd she live? >> Um on know, Lawrence Street, I think. >> Oh, Whitehall? >> Yeah. >> Not the lower apartment? >> Mhm. >> Okay. She lived there by herself? >> I think so, yeah. >> Okay. So, she was seeking heroin from you for that, you believe? >> Yeah. >> Or what? >> Yeah, [snorts] she messaged me like earlier. She She wanted to go to Milwaukee and get dope from people and we never ended up going. And then >> Do you guys buy drugs together or what's kind of your relationship? >> Yeah. >> [snorts] >> But dry it buy and use together or >> Yeah. Well, we I guess we didn't really use together, but we put our money together. >> And then we'll go buy together? >> Yeah. >> So, you didn't go to Milwaukee that day? >> No. >> Do you remember the day that you you were talking with her specifically? >> Yeah, I think so. >> Do you remember the date? >> Um No, I don't remember the date. >> Is there anything in your mind that makes you remember the messages of that day? What was going on? >> Don't you have them? >> Yeah. >> [snorts] >> Um I was walking on my way to go see my kids. I stopped at her house. >> Okay. Just you or was Were you with anybody? >> Just me. >> Just you. So, you swung by her house. What did you have with you? >> Just a really little tiny bit of heroin. >> Like how much? >> Like a half of a bundle. >> Okay. And did you go inside or how did it >> Yeah, I went inside her house. >> Okay. And what she pay you? >> She already had given me money for it. So, I think she bought me a pack of cigarettes. She owed me owed me for [clears throat] it. A pack of cigarettes or something. >> [cough] >> So, I remember picking up cigarettes at her house. >> And then did she give you the rest of the cash? So I don't understand you paid her already. >> she owed it to me before that. >> Did you guys meet up before at somewhere else? Where? >> Um I would have swung by her house, I guess. >> So you swung by her house and picked up the money and the cigarettes? [snorts] And then you got her heroin? No? >> I don't remember exactly. I just know when I stopped by her I got a pack of cigarettes from her. >> Okay. And then you gave her the bundle of heroin? >> The half a bundle, yeah. >> The half a bundle. And she didn't use it in front of you? >> No. >> Okay. So then you took the cigarettes, the money, and left? Did you guys talk at all after that? >> Mhm. >> No, nothing? And then what happened? >> [snorts] >> And then I heard she died like 2 days later. >> How did everybody know that you were the one that delivered it? >> I have no idea. I don't even know for sure. Like I heard other people it could have been too. I heard Justin could have also sold her some beer percs that were fentanyl or something and he lived right by her. I heard that um Tyler kid that she was messing with sold her something. I don't know for sure if it was me or not. >> How did she use her heroin, do you know? >> She shot it up. >> And the stuff that you delivered her, you knew it to be pretty potent? >> Um honestly, no. >> No? >> It wasn't that good of all. >> And you were you were referring to it as white china. >> I think I was trying to talk it up a little. >> So what is this white china you [snorts] referred to? >> Um I had gotten it from Heather Worms. Um That's all I know about that. >> So, you're telling me that >> [snorts] >> the stuff that you sold Kendra that killed her was from Heather Worms? >> Yeah. >> Not from anyone else? >> Not that I know of. I got it from Heather. >> Who has been supplying you all this time that you've been dealing? >> Um I go to Milwaukee. >> Okay. And who else? >> Um I mean, I guess Aaron, but he's like he would give me his money and and I would go to Milwaukee and get stuff for him since he lost his plug, which was that Mexican guy. The Herrera Hernandez guy that just got busted or whatever. >> [snorts] >> That was his >> [clears throat] >> That was his plug, so he lost him and then I was the one taking his money to Milwaukee and getting him stuff. >> So, he wasn't supplying you? >> I had I mean, yeah, I guess kind of. I mean, it was his money and his his drugs, I guess. But what I gave to Kendra, I got from Heather. That was before I started talking to Aaron. Me and Aaron just started talking. >> [snorts] >> And at that time, I didn't talk to Aaron like that. Just Heather did. >> Where did you know where Heather got it from? >> [snorts] >> I don't know whether or not she got it from him or not. But when he was I believe I don't know when I think when he was getting the China, it was coming from that Mexican dude. >> So, how did you and Heather communicate that day? Cuz if I'm correct, you didn't have anything, which is why you and Kendra were wanting to go to Milwaukee, right? So, how did you find the stuff that day? >> Heather messaged me and said, "Hey, um my dude's messaging me back now." Which would have been Aaron. And then she went and got it from him and then I got it from her. >> So, at that time Aaron was supplying Heather? >> Yes. >> You didn't go direct with him? >> No, not at that time. >> How do you specifically remember that? >> Um because I wasn't like allowed to go by him or we came with him or anything for a while. I'd have to go through Heather when I first when she first started getting that stuff, I had to go through her. And she would get it from him. >> [snorts] >> So, then eventually you got an introduction? >> Yeah. >> Through Heather? >> Um yes. >> Or >> Yeah. >> Something different? >> He quit talking to her one day and I just hit him up. >> Oh. How did he know you? >> Um he knew that Heather was selling his [ __ ] to me. >> So, when you and April or you and Kendra couldn't get anything that day, you hit Heather up? >> I think she hit me up and said, "Hey, my guy just messaged me and he's got none." >> How did you guys communicate? >> Text message. >> Through Facebook Messenger or direct text messages? >> Direct text messages. >> Do you still have the messages? >> I don't think so. Even though I just had my phone. >> And it wasn't Facebook? You guys didn't do Facebook Messenger? >> much so. >> [snorts] >> How often did you uh get it from Aaron? >> Was she supplying you with everything that you weren't going to Milwaukee? >> Yeah, just for like a week or two. I got stuff from her. >> And then what? Then you went >> And then eventually I started talking to Aaron myself and and then the last couple weeks I was staying there cuz he was pretty much supporting my addiction, I guess. >> And then were you Was he supplying you or were you guys partners [snorts] at that point? >> Um it was all his money. >> So he'd furnish you the money and you'd >> I'd go get it get it for him and then I'd give it back to him. >> And then you Were you selling for him or were you selling on your own or what was >> No, I didn't have any of my own but >> [cough] >> I guess I'd make a sale for him, yeah. The thing whatever whatever I sold to Patrick. >> Was from Aaron and Patrick? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Are you willing to talk with the colony right now? About the Patrick stuff? >> Who's the colony? >> The colony investigator that would come and [snorts] sit with us. >> Sure. >> Yeah? Okay. >> So they can help me? >> Like I said, I can't make you any promises. Um Like Nate explained to you that colony officer that you know, there's things of consideration that the district attorney takes into account when looking at the totality of the circumstances. >> [snorts] >> Um not here to give you legal advice, but I mean if I'm you, I would want to try to take every consideration at this point I could get. But that's totally up to you and I can't like I said I can't make promises for her. But she looks at everything and you know, she'll look at the fact that you're talking with me today and choosing to cooperate now. And then would your attorney would likely make whatever arrangements or considerations with them. That's how it works. But like I said I can't promise you any of that kind of stuff. That's that's all outside of my >> Okay. >> You know, my ability to do for you right now. Um but if you want to talk today and get it all on the table and go that route, I can have county detective come and sit with us right now and we can talk more at all. It's completely in your It's completely up to you. >> [snorts] >> I mean you You just told me that you you know, obviously delivered to Patrick. >> I don't want to hurt myself more. I was just feeding my own addiction. Doing what I had to do to survive. I need help. >> I don't doubt any of that. >> I wish I could take it all back. >> Mhm. >> [snorts] >> But you can't now we're here. I get that. >> [snorts] >> I understand how strong addiction can be. >> Like my person in Milwaukee >> [snorts] >> I can't tell you who he is or anything. Like you can tell you guys don't care about that. >> What's that? >> My person who I got stuff from in Milwaukee. >> [snorts] >> Yeah. >> Like doesn't knowing that help me at all or not? He lived a lot away. >> Well, if you're willing to talk right now, I can make a couple [snorts] calls and see what I can do. >> Okay. >> Sit tight for a minute. I'm playing down with the sheriff's office, too. How are you? >> I'm good. >> Good. So, like I said, I want to give him a call cuz he's worked the other case. Um I called Veronica, who's the DA. Um she said that she would greatly appreciate your cooperation and that when it came time to sentencing, which decides the ultimate sentences, that she would make sure that the judge knew, you know, that your cooperation um in the case and that it would go towards consideration and that type of stuff in the sentencing part of it. Um so, she said you know, she didn't know that you feel like at this point you could hurt yourself any more and that you know, like I said, the consideration of it towards the totality of everything you're dealing with is is kind of where we're at. So, um if you're good it, we can keep going. Um where we left off was is that we had talked about Kendra and that um Kendra was you were at the time being sourced by Heather. Heather one, okay. Who was being sourced by Van Dyke. From here and that was? Okay. And then you eventually went direct [snorts] with him? >> Mhm. >> And that was after Kendra's death when you started going direct with him, right? Do you know what time frame that was? >> I don't. >> No? So, Heather was not involved in the the the last one then at all? No? Okay. All right. Um Okay. So, you had said that you had sourced Patrick. Well, to fill him in essentially, to backtrack is what you were telling me is that eventually when you moved to Aaron, you guys were kind of partners in a way or he was feeding your habits, right? Essentially, he would front you the money. Do you want to fill him in? >> He would Yeah, he would give me his money and I would go get the stuff and sell back to him and then he would get me high. >> Where would you go to? >> Milwaukee. >> Okay. Um what would you what would you pick up like when you would go down there? >> Um half ounce. >> Of heroin? >> Yeah. >> Okay. What were you paying for that? >> 700. >> Um for 700 bucks? >> Yeah. >> And what would you would he just give you some off the top when you got back or? >> Well, I started staying there at his house and then he would just get me high. >> Okay. So, you just just whatever for you it was essentially. >> Yeah. >> And then would you go help him sell the dope? >> He asked me to, yeah. We'd all contact whoever I knew and >> Okay. So, then obviously Patrick contacted you um the day that Jordan um whatever overdosed. And then, did you give right to Patrick the dope? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Patrick Jordan that is. And then, did you Were you aware that Patrick sourced um the female then? >> No. >> Was it Jessica then? Is that what her name was? >> I don't know. That's what other people like said. >> Okay. And then, she had in turn gave it to uh >> She's in in jail. >> Jordan? And she is. >> Oh. >> Yeah. I'm pretty certain she's in jail now. Um [snorts] Did Aaron know that you that this happened? >> Um >> [clears throat] >> Did he know that I gave some to Patrick? >> Yeah. >> Yeah, he brought me there. >> Okay. And then, did Aaron find out that Jordan was going to die or probably died? >> We didn't know anything about that. >> Okay. So, you had no clue of that. >> [snorts] >> All right. When did you find out that that happened? >> Once I was here. >> Okay. Then you found out that guy died or whatever and it was probably from the [ __ ] that you >> Yeah. >> Okay. All right. Um did did So, Aaron get that day you just essentially were the middle man. You were just taking Aaron's dope from Aaron to give to Patrick. >> Yeah. >> So, it was really just Aaron's stuff. And that was stuff from Milwaukee. That wasn't sourced from Heather at all? >> No. >> Okay. Do you know where you're picking up in Milwaukee? >> Yeah. [snorts] >> Okay. Who's that? >> Um I don't know his whole real name, but I have his I know where he lives. >> Okay. >> I know where he works. >> What's his name? >> His name is D. >> Okay. >> That's all I know about. Um >> You got a phone number for him on your phone, I noticed one. >> Yeah. >> Okay. All right. Um What do you Do you Facebook messenger or is it >> I text him. >> You text him. Okay. And then you go down How does the deal go when you go down there? >> I just um go to his house, which is on off of 76 in DePere. >> 76 in what? >> DePere. Or I go to his work, which is on um North Fulton Road. >> What's work? >> I don't know what that building's called. It's some I don't know what it's called. >> What kind of dealer is he? Is he pound level or is he like ounce level? Is he >> Um I think pound. >> Okay. >> Has he uh always acted like you know, what we picked up wasn't nothing. He never wanted to meet us. >> Okay. He just He just you one of them giving cash. He waited up for you and you left. >> Mhm. >> Okay. Did the Aaron ever go down there with you? >> Yeah, all the time. >> Okay, but did the last time when you picked up, he didn't go? >> No. >> No. Okay. Just Is there any reason he didn't? >> I don't >> Is it more heroin or is it more like fentanyl that you're getting? >> It's all fentanyl. >> It's all straight fentanyl. Okay. >> I mean, it's There's no heroin anymore that's not fentanyl at all. >> Okay. What color would you say it was? >> Light tan. >> [snorts] >> Like I haven't seen heroin in a long time that hasn't had fentanyl in it. It all has fentanyl in it. >> Right. It seems like it's getting that way anyway, isn't it? Yeah. Okay. Um You get black tar once in a while, too, right? >> Um Aaron did. He got that from that Mexican guy. >> Where is that? >> Uh Mexican I just got um popped in Green Bay. >> Oh, uh Manny Herrera? >> Mhm. >> Okay. And he [clears throat] was going to run up to Clinton and get mad or what? Just tell us what happened. >> He was going to Green Bay to meet him when I first met him. >> Okay. >> [snorts] >> All right. But now that he's gone, obviously, that stopped. >> Mhm. >> Okay. All right. Did Aaron ever Did you and Aaron ever have a conversation about Kendra's stuff? Like that you knew that kind of that it was your dope and No? >> No. >> You just kind of ignored the fact that it never happened and Did Aaron know that it was that she had >> Yeah, I think so. >> And he wasn't concerned about it at all? >> He didn't say anything about it. >> Okay. What was your conversation like with Heather after that happened? >> Um, nothing. We didn't talk about it either. >> Nothing at all? >> I wasn't sure if it was funny or not. >> Okay. Kendra's? >> Mhm. >> But you weren't positive if that was your stuff or not? Okay. All right. >> [snorts] >> What was the packaging you delivered that in? Do you remember? >> Um probably a little jump bag with a design on it. >> Do you remember what color they were or anything? >> Um, I think the last ones I had were hearts. >> Okay. Like red ones or Okay. >> Do you remember what jump bag you gave Patrick? >> I don't know. >> No? Okay. >> [snorts] >> How did you guys arrange the Patrick delivery? >> He called me and messaged me and told me to come over. >> Okay. And what did he buy from you? >> Just that bundle. >> Just that bundle? What is that? Like a a point or point one or whatever? >> No. >> Okay. >> [snorts] >> Um and that was in a gym bag? >> Mhm. >> What did he give you? >> 40 dollars, I think. >> 40 bucks. And then you gave him the bag and did you go in the apartment at all? Did that room at all? >> Just through the store. >> Okay. And that was at Where was that at? >> Durango. >> Did you say anything to him? >> I don't think so. >> No, he just handed it to him and the transaction left. All right. Um Did you know that this time was coming when we eventually were going to have to come talk with you? This was coming to an end or >> I don't know. I guess I didn't really think about it. >> And you and >> [snorts] >> Um Aaron never talked about any of the deaths or any of that stuff, huh? None of it ever came up. What was his attitude to it at all? >> Um I don't know. >> Just nothing, huh? >> He never said anything about it. >> What's Aaron going to say if we question him on this stuff? Is he going to deny it? Is he going to say it's all your dope? >> I don't know. I never had money though. Since I started talking to him, I haven't had my own money. That's why I was staying in motels. >> Where's he getting money from? >> Um his plug that got popped. He never paid him. He had like $2,000 he owed him or something. >> Manny? >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> He never paid him. >> Okay. >> So he had money off from that. >> What did you guys have? Obviously, you know we did a search warrant. Um the drugs and stuff or whatever. What did he What did you guys have for dope there at the time? >> Nothing. Nothing. Okay. >> It was pretty much all out there on >> Yeah. >> Where was the cash? >> Um I don't know. >> You don't know? Does he have any secret compartments or anything in those? >> Not that I know of. >> Okay. All right. Uh what about op? I know he was doing that for a while. >> He didn't have a plug on it recently. >> Also, he was just You guys were going to only get more? Okay. >> [snorts] >> All right. Is there anything you think we need to know or what or forgot? Is there anything surrounding Kendra's death that you specifically remembered that you haven't told me or >> I still don't not convinced that it was my [ __ ] >> Why don't you think that? >> Cuz from when the day I went there, it was 2 days later that she died. I don't think she saved the dope that I gave her for 2 days and then did it and died. >> Let me tell you that she was found 2 days later. >> From when I went there though? >> Mhm. I was just It took a while obviously for her to be found from the from the bed. >> So, you're saying she did it and didn't die right away? >> Yeah. >> And even though she was trying to kill herself. >> I don't know anything about that. You said Nick Jones had messages or something. >> Yes, he does. >> What's Nick going to tell me? >> He'll show him the old >> Nick wasn't with you or present during any of this? >> No, I don't think so. >> Don't think so or >> No. >> Is Nick involved in selling to you obviously? >> Um not really. He was trying to go Kendra though. He just I don't know, ripped her off or something right before she died. But yeah, he has them messages saying that she's going to kill herself and that he's not the only person either. There's like two other people who she told she was going with, do that too. >> Okay. Okay. >> I don't think that's fair to me. I don't think she would have wanted this to happen to me. >> Probably not. I don't know. I don't doubt that. Right. Unfortunately, when you get involved in this sort of thing, stuff happens, right? Um and obviously that wasn't your intent. It's what happened. >> [snorts] >> So, just run through when you sold Patrick again, you he messaged you Facebook Messenger. Um he asked for a bun. You went from Aaron's house, I assume? >> Yeah, I remember having it up there. >> In his Nitro or what was he driving? >> Yeah, his car. >> Okay. And then you guys got there, you walked up to the door. Patrick hands you $40. Was it two $20 bills? >> Yes. >> Okay. You gave him 0.2 mil of of down. >> Gave him money back there. >> Um gave money to Aaron. And was your Do you and Aaron have any conversation at all? No. Just like it was just normal that you guys were doing that frequently. It was just whatever. >> Yeah. >> Okay. And then uh you found out when you got in here that um Jordan had died. Okay. And then you go, "Shoot, that was my dope that probably killed him." Okay. Is uh Aaron sourcing any else? >> I don't >> Like does he tell other people besides you what you were doing? >> Um >> [clears throat] >> Yeah, he had a few people. >> Who are they? >> Um some Danica Twink or something. Um some Trevor guy. That's all I really know. >> So essentially when you started hooking up with with him you'd use all of his money, you'd go get the drugs, and then he'd drive you around and you'd do all the delivering for him. >> Yeah, I mean he had his own people too, but >> Did he go deliver himself to some of them? >> He'd have them come to his house. >> Come to the house? And the communication was set up through you or you both set up your own deals? >> Yeah, he set up his own people and I only had like I really didn't sell that much stuff for him at all. I was just really there to get high. I got his drugs for him and he got me high. >> How did you get the plug in Milwaukee? >> Um >> [clears throat] >> I just randomly met him one day when I was down there. >> Well, well, just see him on the street or >> Mhm. >> and he's like, "Yeah, I got chip for you." >> Yeah. >> Yeah. And then it was What is it? Is he a white guy? Is he a black guy? >> He's black. >> Okay. How tall would you say? >> Um like 6' maybe. >> You said he knew his address, too? >> I know where his house is. >> 76 and Dean you said? >> Yeah, it's in an apartment building. I don't know like exactly which one, but >> [snorts] >> Are there any um any other deaths or unsolved any crimes that are unsolved that you know of? >> No. >> No. Not saying related to you, just generalization. >> Nothing. >> What does this this black guy look like? Does he have short hair long hair? >> Short hair. >> Okay. Um does he have any tattoos that stand out to you? >> Yeah, he drives black BMW. >> Okay. Uh like car? >> Yeah. >> Yeah. You don't know him by anything else besides D? >> No. >> He's never said his any other It's just the only D. Okay. Last question I have, how did uh how did your and Heather's deal spell? >> She just come over and drop off the [ __ ] and get money and go back home. >> At East Miller, did she come to? >> Yeah. >> You never went to her? >> Uh I don't think so. >> She just text message you or she'd bring it over and you pay her and >> Yep. >> Okay. Okay. Does she know [snorts] that uh she sourced the last She sourced Kendra's stuff? >> I don't think so. >> No. Is she around still? Yeah. >> I don't know. >> She might even be in jail right now. Where does she Where did she pick up from? Do you know who her plug was? >> Manny. >> Oh, Aaron was with him. And then Aaron was with him. Still going on Milwaukee at that time or was he getting from Manny at that time? >> Manny. >> Okay. So, likely >> That's where the tire and the China came from. >> Is that what Kendra bought? >> I believe so. >> Okay. Which one? >> The China. >> Yeah. Okay. This half been a heroin, you said. >> Mhm. >> Which is fentanyl. So, likely Aaron got that from Manny. >> Yeah, for sure. >> And it's Manny Herrera Hernandez, is that sound right? And is Kendra his girlfriend's name was Is it Mara? Do you know? You don't know. Okay. All right. Was he living up in Clintonville, do you know? >> Um Green Bay when Aaron was going there. >> [snorts] >> But it was one that recently just got picked up for all that dope stuff. >> Mhm. >> Okay. All right. Good. Do you have questions for us? >> No. >> I appreciate you being honest. I think you made the right decision. I truly do. >> I hope so. >> Um I mean, the cat's out of the bag. The damage was done. Um we have a lot of property evidence, obviously, so I think at this point in time, it is probably the wisest thing you could have done. >> I agree. >> It goes a long way with our district attorney's office and all that stuff, so. >> In the 2021 Waupaca County, Wisconsin case, April Hardigan was charged with first-degree recklessly endangering safety and manufacturing or delivering heroin in the deaths of Kendra Retto and Jordan May. On February 24th, 2022, Hardigan was convicted of two counts of first-degree reckless homicide as a party to a crime, delivery of heroin, and two counts of child neglect. On or about July 1st, 2022, Hardigan was sentenced to 6 years in prison with 4 years of extended supervision.
