On November 8th, 2025, officers were dispatched in response to a reported domestic incident. >> So, Greg, my name is Officer Andali with the Key West Police. Um, so why don't you tell me what happened? >> My wife doesn't like to be shown up if she's wrong or right. So, we're coming down off on Ball Street. We're going down to the beach areas. There's between I don't know the names. I believe it's by Logger or >> Loggerheads. Mhm. >> My car is parked there. We have a rental car from Miami. >> So, my car is parked in there in the handicap spot and she wants to take a left over at the trying to think of the bar we were at earlier today. We've been drinking all day. I'm the intoxicated one. So, she wants to take a left, go in there. I said, "No, all we have to go is go to the right." Well, then I tried to tell her that way in the argument in schools. >> So, she was driving. >> We weren't even driving yet. Oh, okay. You guys are walking. Okay. >> We're walking all over the place because we're not drinking and driving. >> So, we I go this way. She kind of goes this way. Then she catches up with me and then she's all mad and we get in the car and then the argument ensues that she's just belligerent because I was right. And getting in a car in a car >> as far as where >> getting into a parking car. Yes. So, we get in the car and so on. We start going here and I tell all you need to go is go down this road and hit Truman Street. Go down that way. Don't tell me where I'm going. And she hits me in the mouth. >> And >> how did she hit you? Was it >> just >> So a backhand? >> Yes. >> Yeah. You mind if I get a couple pictures of your >> I got them, too. >> Just I'm tired of it. It's just >> This happened before. >> Yes, sir. >> Sorry to hear that. >> All right. I'm going to just grab a couple pictures here. Okay. >> Uh you want to like open up your lip. Is it inside your lip or on the outside? Okay. So, it's just right there. Okay. >> And that's your only injury? >> I believe it is. I think the one on my hand is just a drip. >> It's just a drip. Okay. >> Uh, I gave the other officer my ID card. >> Okay. So, you're retired military? >> I am retired military as my CO as well. >> Okay. You don't have any weapons on you right now? >> No, sir. Okay. I'm traveling. >> Oh, army. All right. Comes our major. We got We got one of those uh on our shift, actually. I'm intoxicated. I raise my voice. I kept calm. So on and so forth. I have her on video. She was driving erratically all the way from when we turn on Well, actually down to the ball on the on the east side of the hall. She started driving me erratically. I was trying to get it on video. Uh and then coming up, we finally came back and hit Truman and started coming down this road. And >> how long have you guys been married? >> Three years. This is our weekend. >> Dating 5 years. We've been together 5 years. We've been married 3 years. Uh, November Tuesday, Veterans Day is our anniversary. >> Okay. And you said this kind of thing has happened before. >> Just back in July. Took her up to see my family up in July. Again, she takes the if I drink anything, she takes it as an excuse, I believe, takes it an excuse to blame me for everything if there's an issue and it's just because I'm drunk or I'm under intoxicated and takes that to your point. she doesn't really drink or she has very little to do with and he said she holds that against you and then wants to say it's everything's my fault wherever it goes >> and hit me across the nose last time and broke her own hand across my nose. >> Oh well, just hang out here. I'm going to talk to this other officer here for a second. Okay. Yes, sir. >> We'll be right back. >> She said that they were she said similar like they were driving back. She didn't have the GPS on. She wound up on like a dead end road. Um he said that she said that he was he intoxicated at all. >> Yeah. Yeah. He said he said I've been drinking. >> He gets he gets really drunk. >> And then he was like yelling at her and then belittling her about like why are you driving like this? You don't know where you're [ __ ] going. All that kind of [ __ ] And then um she said he started like he grabbed the key of a car which is just a fob. So it just needs to be in the car like it wasn't in the ignition. She was still driving and he was like, "Grab the key." And then she said like she grabbed a hold of the key and we were fighting back and forth like like you know pulling back and forth or whatever. And she said she like, "Yeah, I accidentally like when we were pulling back and forth like I did accidentally like go and hit him in the face." She's in a very heightened sense of emotions right now. He's super calm. I >> super chill. I mean, he said, did she say that this has happened before or anything? >> Yes. He says she says that like he always gets drunk and it always like it's like an argument. >> He she said that he did like push her on like he was like h like not hitting her but like pushing her like arm and stuff as they were fighting for the key and that she then when she was going back and forth whatever she went back and like it seemed like she like backhanded. >> Who's she talking to? >> I have no idea. She's she's like she wants to leave to get a different room. >> So, I'm glad I caught her before she dipped out. It's hard for me to determine if like he was the primary aggressor like fighting that or like >> most people backhand somebody on >> promise. Let's do that. Let's do what you said. I'll go talk to her. See what stories he gives me. You go talk to him. See what story he gives you and then we'll compare, you know, to see how they match up to one. >> Sounds good. >> Hello there. >> Hi. >> Hi. My name is Officer Andrada with the Key West Police. >> Um, what's your name? April. >> April. Um, so why don't you tell me what happened, April? >> So, we're fighting in the car over the key. He takes the key. >> Okay. So, is that what started the fight? >> Yeah. First of all, he's drunk. Been drinking all day. Okay. >> Okay. >> I walk to the car earlier and take the hat that we were just tired of carrying around. Then he leaves the bar and decides he's going to tell me where the car's parked. Okay, no problem. But then when we're walking in the direction of the car, he wants to take off running with the key. We get to the car. I said, "I'm driving. I'ming driving. I don't drink. I'm driving or I'm not going." So we get in the car and then he immediately starts running his mouth. What kind of I am. It's daughter's right. All of this [ __ ] Then he I had the key in the cup holder and he wants to take the key. He already had it in his hand. So I reach over there to take it back. Well, we starting struggling over the key and then he >> Are you driving at this point? >> Yes. >> Okay. >> Yes. >> Yes, I am. >> And Okay, continue. >> And then I said, just shut up. When we get there, I'm packing my [ __ ] and I'm leaving. And I'm telling you, I'm done. First of all, my first husband drank alcohol. I had to go to church and had to make a a list of things that I would not want in another marriage. Five years later, I end up marrying this. And that's one of the things on my list. I will not deal with an alcoholic. I don't even drink myself. >> Okay. So, take me back to to the car. You're driving >> and and driving. >> He grabs the fob >> and he's uh and then so I reach over there to grab it and we starting struggling back and forth. >> What was the reason for you to get the fob? because he he was not going to have the car. >> But you were already driving, >> correct? >> Right. So why were you worried about him? >> I would have the car. So I would >> But you already have the car. You're already driving. >> No. No. When we got here, that's when it the real uh fight over the key because he wanted to lock me out of the room. I had to go in the office and get a key. I had to uh here I just said, "I'm getting my [ __ ] and leaving. I'm not taking your car. It's in your name. I'm just leaving." We have friends on the island. >> Okay. So, I'm sorry. I'm confused. It sounded like you were telling me that that you guys were driving and that's when you >> were driving. We were He already had the fob in his hand and the entire way from there to here. We're fighting over it and he's just steadily screaming, yelling, pulling the fob. My question, April, my question is why were if you're driving, okay, why are you worried about the fob right then as while you're driving? >> Who knows? Who knows? Just so his drunk ass wouldn't have it safety. >> But you're already driving. >> Correct. But not safely because this one. >> Okay. So then you So you're fighting over the fob and then what happens? We're fighting over the fog and then he leans over towards me pushes me in move pushes me and I did like that and and I guess I don't know where I hit him. I just you know >> you did like what? >> Like this. >> Okay. And then what happened? >> I we got here. I went in the office, got a key, packed my [ __ ] and left. He stayed outside the whole time. >> Okay. Can I see uh your hands, please? >> Yeah, sure. You can see >> just hold just just hold your hands just like that. >> Also see last week just hold your hands like that for me. >> How about >> Okay, just keep keep just hold your hands like I just hold your hands like I asked. Please hold both of your hands out, please. Okay, now flip them over. Put them closer together, please. >> All right, I'm going to go talk to this other officer. Just uh wait here for me, please. Okay. >> All right. Um so what I'm going to ask you to do is put >> Okay, fine. While I do it, just give me a moment. You really got to get aggressive with >> Nobody's getting aggressive. Nobody's getting aggressive. So, you're being placed under arrest for simple battery. >> Great. >> Domestic violence. >> Do you have any weapons on your person? >> No, I have nothing on. >> Okay. >> You don't have anything on your person? Are you wearing shorts underneath that? >> No, I'm not. Here. >> You don't have to pull it off. >> Okay. I'm done. >> Okay. This is just part of our policy. Okay. All right. I'm going to walk you around back to the other side of my vehicle. >> All right, Greg. So, she's going to be taken, just so you know, she's going to be taken to the Monroe County Detention Center. Um, she's going to be processed. She's going to spend the night in jail. She'll see the judge in the morning. >> Can we do some of those in this? >> Um, so listen, um, to answer your question, no. And this is why. So, in the state of Florida, Florida takes uh domestic violence very seriously and it's written into the statute that it's a preferred arrest when we can determine um that who is the primary aggressor and in between talking to both of you, it seems like she was the primary aggressor. >> Okay. So, and of course, you got this injury here and I can see the mark on her hand from when she hit you with that. So, she has a a wound on her hand from when she struck you in the in the uh in the mouth. So, for those reasons, we're placing her under arrest. She's being charged with simple battery, domestic violence. She's going to be processed at the jail. She'll see the judge in the morning. and he'll read the officer's report to determine um whether we had probable cause and then she'll be assigned a court date in the future if he finds that we did have probable
