On March 23rd, 2026, officers were dispatched in response to reports of a hit-and-run crash involving a bicyclist. >> It was all like this. That little thing they just ran over, I don't know what that is. >> This is the car I'm assuming. All right, yeah. >> I mean, they're two of them getting on their bikes. >> I didn't know what it was. It was dark. Did any of you see what happened? >> Yeah, hell yeah. >> You did? Okay. I'm just going to take some information from you. Um, do you have any idea on you really quick? No? Okay. Um >> I'm getting my social security number right here. >> Yeah, okay. Just give me Do you live in Florida? >> Yeah, we're on Petunia Street. It's my wife. >> Oh, that's your wife? Okay, so you were driving together? Okay, perfect. Okay, so what happened? >> We were driving on bicycles. >> Okay. >> We were both on bikes. >> Okay. >> Both of them Mine's over here, hers is over there, leaning up against a dumpster. >> Okay. >> And there was a white van on the >> Which which way were you traveling? Outbound? That way? >> Yeah. Um, yeah, down on Williams Street. There was a white van, it was a Dodge Caravan, I'm assuming they got it since I was trying to find some people also in the back, I think. Started calling us, honking at us, and yelling at us for about a year between the waffle house and where we are now. >> Okay. Um, so he sped up and hit I'm sorry, that was the sped up and hit the back of her car up her uh bicycle? >> Um, sped up and hit her kind of right dead on on the side, but finally beside her. We were off of that car and the glass and from that. >> Yeah. >> From there um, then he just kept going. >> Okay, okay. >> She fell. The car kept going. >> Just kept going. >> kept going and then he hit the kid on the scooter behind us. And I was kind of in shock and just worried about her and my bike. >> Yeah. >> The kid on the scooter just chased the car and >> Okay. Um, so you didn't see any which way he turned? You just >> Yeah, he turned right. >> Right? >> say he turned right at the stop sign. Turn right there back on the the main road. >> Okay. >> She wasn't like on on that street, right? >> Huh? >> She was It was on Olivia, right? On this side of >> There's Olivia Street. >> Yeah, we were coming from Old Town Tavern. So, and the me and I think it ran the stop sign, but that's whatever, but she got stuck behind the two bicycles, and she was just like honking and like speeding up trying to run them over. She went That went on for about like two stop signs. And then they got I think it's right over here behind here. >> Yeah, yeah, yeah. >> I heard the ambulance. >> And how she was looks like? Can you describe her? >> No, I just saw her park. She bolted in there. >> She's like a okay, like white, black, spandex, something like that. >> I saw I think it was a lady. It was I wasn't on my scooter, so it was kind of hard to get her. But she was like she literally peeled out after she ran ran her over. >> Um do you have ID Okay. I'll grab I'll grab it. Yeah, I took pictures of I'm just going to leave that for now. This is uh >> I'm assuming that's hers. >> Yeah, let me just Oh, that's the husband. >> Excuse me, sir. >> Is that her bag? >> Yeah, it's yeah, it's her backpack. >> Do you know if her driver's license is in there? >> Yeah, I'm sure it is. There's a blue There's a blue wallet in there. You can grab it. >> All right, so really quick, I'm just going to ask you what happened. >> Um we came from the Taste of Key West and we rode down Olivia, and there was a white um van that came probably at like Whitehead Street that was behind us, and we were riding, and then we came down like this like after we crossed the wall, she started yelling out of her window like why we wouldn't move over, and I said that we would get to a spot over here and move over, and then she zoomed around, and I was like just driving my bike, and then >> Her wallet's in there if you want. >> Um >> Her wallet will show up on the phone. >> And then and she just hit me on >> So, she she hit you on which side if you were driving which way? >> On my >> Passenger mirror. >> On my left. >> She was Just one second. >> And then how the crash happened? >> Any point on the like vehicle, which one is that? >> So it's this one. I saw I think it was a girl bike. She was quick. And I was like, holy [ __ ] And she went through there. >> So okay. So this weekend or that weekend? >> This weekend. >> This one. Okay. >> Um and she definitely didn't see me cuz when I when she turned the >> Is that her? >> No. >> Okay. I think she was wearing something dark. Okay. >> I can't blue, black. It's kind of hard to tell in the night. I'm just >> All right. And she hit which side of the car? >> Uh you can see the mirror. >> Is it mirror? >> Yeah, that's it. >> All right. Thank you very much, sir. I appreciate it. >> Yeah. >> I'm going to call the hotel so soon. Hi. >> I work here. >> I have vehicle one is missing passenger mirror and the witness stated that's how the crash happened. Um you know, it happened on the Olivia. >> So >> Do you know where's >> Let me see if they have a parking pass. >> Probably she's staying here. I'm trying to figure out which room. Uh it's going to be female driver. That's all I have right now. >> And did they tell you their room number? >> No, they don't know. Um can can you tell me? >> Where she's staying? >> I need her tag. >> Right here. >> No, not this. We gave a parking pass and that's how I would be able to come and see. >> Okay. >> All right. So she said, "Why won't you move over?" And you're driving this vehicle. So what did she do? Come up to the left side of you? >> like I I told I I literally yeah, I turned my head and I said, "We'll we'll move over as soon as we have a spot." And so we were riding on this side over here along like the cars. And then she just zoomed by me and I I was riding my bike and my handle hit her and And then next thing I knew, I was flying and I hit my elbow. >> Okay. Um so she So you were driving and it was like your left side that your elbow hit her. >> Yeah, like she just flew It It wasn't like my body hit her, but some like my handlebar when she went by or something hit her and it threw my bike and I just flew. >> Okay. So, it could have been possible Did you fall on your elbow? >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> I mean, I'm not saying she like I I don't know what I don't know if she hit my handlebar or if my back like my tire I don't know what part of my bike she hit, but my bike was hit and then I like got spun and basically went through the road. >> Okay. So, beside your your left elbow, is there anything else that's hurting you? >> I don't know. I mean, my like my knee hurts. My like my head hurts. I'm a little bit woozy, but >> Did you hit your head, you know? >> I don't think I hit my head. I think I'm just like >> Yeah, it's stressful. Yeah, it's stressful. >> I feel like I'm going to throw up in this. >> Okay. >> I I I'm okay. I'm just >> Okay. >> I just feel like >> Um what is your phone number? >> Did he have a description of her? >> She said it was like a female. She wasn't even No, he just said like a wedding like sort of like dark blue eyes. She's like a a white Hispanic like not I I don't know. Um let me Yeah. >> parking pass on there. >> Let me see if I'm able to pull up a picture. I don't know if she's the owner of this vehicle. Let me give me a second. All right. >> Okay. I'm going to go look at your bike. And it's the one that's over here, right? >> Yes, and it's the one with the with 10 speeds >> Okay. Um the injury on her elbow, was it just like scrapes like road rash? >> I didn't get to see it. Okay. So, um I would ask is if the will are out there if they're out there and ask them simply if they had it already wrapped up before I got okay so Hold on one second. What? >> It's like a crime scene now, right? >> Yeah, just leave everything on the floor. Don't pick it up. Just leave it. I'm sorry. What did you say? Okay, so I have to she was riding with her husband who was also obviously witnessed the whole thing. He said that same thing. They were riding the the van was behind them honking saying all you must be tourist and the woman who got hit she said like you know, she just said like we were going to pull over to get out of the street when they had room to and the the the van went around Is the plate coming back to the address over there or is it a hotel? All right, yeah, cuz the mirror is here. She's got to be in the area. I mean it's not like she ran to Yeah. They're going to take she has a like an elbow injury. It looks like I mean it was all wrapped up by the time I got here. It's her left side. She was saying the the the car came up to the side of her and unsure if it hit like her body or the the handle to her bike like the you know the left driver handle but it's like scratch like you can see like where she got hit. Must have hit her hard if the thing came off. I just have some questions. I just have some questions. What do you want to do? Do you want to press charges? It's up to you if you want to press charges. No, I just no. No. Okay. Just give me 1 second, okay? She's saying no. That's what she said. I asked her if she wanted Um should I talk to the husband and he's here or should I ask him or is it ultimately up Okay. All right, hold on. Hold on. Okay. Um sir, excuse me. I don't mean to interrupt you. So, I just talked to your wife. I just wanted She I asked her if she wanted to press charges. She told me no. I just wanted to double-check that. >> I mean, I'm surprised she said no. But that was really bad. I mean, that was really aggressive and malicious. I mean >> I mean, at the end of the day, it's up to you guys. I just wanted to make sure cuz I know you saw it and you're you know >> you a yes or no right now? >> Yeah. >> I I would say go ahead and press charges. That was unbelievable. >> Okay, so do you want to I mean, she's Do you want to talk to her for a second? Hold on. >> Sure. Yeah. >> Cuz he's saying yes, but ultimately it has to come from the both of you. Can he just talk to her really quick? I'm just going to come in. >> No, I I don't I don't know what that means to me. I don't want to go to like court and [ __ ] but that was messed up. She like hit me with >> I'm sorry, but you just have to pay for that pain. >> I just don't want to have to go to court and deal with it. I don't know >> All right, if you don't want to, I mean we won't, but I mean, that that was bad. That was malicious. Like she shouldn't be doing that. >> I know. Can Can I This is not I don't I don't even want to press this towards giving my baby a decision, but what happens if your child is on the back of the >> Well, what if What if we're on the bus >> I would like to press >> We have another We have another bike that's like a box bike. We We put the babies in all the time. >> Stop talking. So, and I just I you know, right now it's just the best worst-case scenario and I just I I you know, if she's able to do this now, I just or he, they're able to do this. I just just before you >> Worry about later on. >> Maybe just >> They shouldn't be on the bike. >> All right, Sam. I got it. I I want to finish them however I can. The only thing I can think about right now is how bad my elbow hurts and all that stuff. All right, um I'll call you back. Let me just get the information for that. And the victim Yeah. And uh victim's a pedestrian, right? Okay. Go, go. Wow. >> I need to make sure that I need to know where to leave your bike and all that good stuff. I'm stressed right now. >> I understand, but please let her talk to you. >> Here. >> All right, um >> I'm on the neighbor's phone. Hey, so the neighbor told me there's nobody at this house. I put her belongings in the bike right there. He said it'll be fine tomorrow. >> I'm clearing criminal warrants for you and you need to assist us in getting a statement over. >> All right, so are we saying yes for charges? >> Yes. >> Okay. So, what I'm going to do is I'm going to get you a case number, which is going to be referenced everything. There'll be a report written. Obviously, we have the car. I'm going Do you have an email address cuz I'm going to email you the vehicle information for insurance purposes? >> Yes, ma'am. >> Um just so that you guys can take off. There is an option to email it. So, do you What's the best email? Okay, thank you. I'll be I'll be emailing you, all right? Feel better. >> Approximately an hour later, the woman arrived at the Key West Police Department and turned herself in regarding the hit-and-run incident. >> Yeah, just >> All right, so I do have to read the Miranda warning for you. And you have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can be used against you in a court of law. >> Okay. All right, so she's >> Okay. 10:15. >> Okay, so we had spoke, we you know, we know about the incident. The female on the bicycle was transported to the hospital due to uh the facts that we have, we, you know, your vehicle is that the car that's Was that where you staying at that hotel? >> No. >> Okay. >> I was staying in the parking lot there, that's all. >> Okay. All right. So, do me a favor, just head up Do you have ID on you? >> I do. >> All right. So, do me a favor, just stand here. >> Mhm. >> Face the wall. At this side of the car. Can you take your glasses off? Uh just stay your hands on the car. You are being placed under arrest. >> So, were you inside the vehicle or were you the passenger? >> No. >> You were not the passenger? >> No. >> So, how did you like get here? >> I'm sorry? >> How did you get here? >> I walked. >> Huh? >> I walked with my student. >> Who is she to you? >> Friend. >> That's your friend. >> Hi. Uh >> Okay. >> I'm going to take your phone. I have your ID. I'm going to walk you to my patrol car uh where I'm going to search you prior to putting you in the back, okay? Uh is that the only belongings you have or do you have anything else in your purse that you can give me? >> No. I need those ones. >> Yeah, I got it. I got it. >> So, just walk with me this way. >> Yep. >> So, so you were never in that vehicle, right? >> No, sir. >> What about today? >> Not today. >> Okay. Uh ma'am, just wanted you to know that vehicle, that uh that white Toyota van, >> Yes. >> that's parked in that hotel, it will be towed because it's >> Um can he pick it up my friend? He's got Can I give him the keys to my phone so he can he can get it? Is that okay? >> Um I'll call my supervisor because vehicle was involved in the crime. I'll double check, all right? >> Okay. >> I mean, again, you said you don't want to talk to us. I'm just So, we have only kind of one side of the story right now, okay? >> Um I think we have the rest of >> Yeah. >> I'm going to take the rest. >> So, basically, my supervisor I just wanted to review this. >> Okay. She's a great lady. >> No, I'm not saying she's a bad lady and you know like she didn't want to talk to us so we didn't get her part of the story, you know. >> I understand. And that that is probably frustrating. I've never worked in that kind of line of work but uh >> You know, I don't know but they they could tell us >> No, but that doesn't really doesn't make it easy. >> But did she say like why she did not stop or something? I'm just I'm just curious. >> What's that? >> Did you did did she say why she did not stop or try to get her past? >> I asked but she was just crying and you know obviously it seems like to me >> Mhm. >> that that would have been a smart option. >> Yeah, because if she was to stop it was nothing. It's just you know, okay, you like you get it if you just I mean she's a she's in a hospital I don't know. I to be honest I never even see that lady. I was different officer there was that female officer. I don't know you know. It's just like you never drive away from the car crash, you know. Just stay there and it's not a big deal. It's not the end of the world. Did she say anything why she parked in that hotel? Because what if she may be staying there? >> a hotel where did she park at a hotel? >> Yeah, she parked at the hotel parking lot. >> Yeah, we work at a hotel. Did she work there? >> I don't know which >> I don't know where she works these days. >> Which hotel do you work >> I I I work at the hotel >> Ah, yeah, okay. Yeah, again you know, I understand if she were like intoxicated then okay >> She didn't seem it to me. >> But no, but she was not like why you run? Just you know just like stay there, you know. Because people usually run when they're intoxicated behind the wheel but but she was fine. Like why she do that? And she doesn't look like she's like criminal or something, you know. She's You you saying she's She's a nice lady like that. I don't like it's like >> She called her She called her husband. Yeah, before I got there. >> Oh, okay. >> And I think all that, her husband >> Like about the like lawyer all that stuff? >> I mean on paper >> I mean >> sounds good. >> I mean that's >> But I did tell her, I said, >> Yeah, that's your right. >> I said, "You're You're they're going to come. They're going to put you in the car and they're going to take you." And I mean, "I'm going to go check up on our kids and stuff." >> Yeah. Is your like a husband at home with the kids? >> Yeah, he's he's on a business trip. He's he's on his way home, but he won't be there for until tomorrow morning. >> And how how how old are kids? >> Um 14. >> Oh. >> Last time I saw him at least. >> The woman was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and leaving the scene of a crash involving injury, both felony offenses under Florida law.
