Highway Patrol with at least a half a dozen units making their way uh up PCH through Malibu here. And I imagine there will be additional CHP resources uh preparing to take over this pursuit as he gets up into the Ventura County area. That's going to be next here as we make our way uh up Malibu. age. California Highway Patrol behind the suspect. It does sound like they may be getting some help from the LA County Sheriff's Department here uh by way of a spike strip set up a little further north here. We're going to try and keep an eye out for that as he continues up the coastline here. There are vehicles. There are uh or there's at least one vehicle. Oh, he just hit it. He just hit it. He just hit it. Let's see if that was successful. That was a That was I believe a sheriff's That was a sheriff's SUV there that laid down that spike strip. So, uh just as we were talking about California Highway Patrol chasing the suspect, LA County Sheriff now uh laying down a nice spike and he is picking up speed after running over that spike strip. It's unclear whether the tire struck the spike strip, but we will see if this vehicle behaves any differently aside from the fact that he is now doubling his speed here as he makes his way northbound PCH and now breaking for some reason. Well, you can imagine the reason now. He is much more agitated and the vehicle appears to be behaving nominally thus far, but they did lay down a spike. He appeared to drive right over it. And uh we'll see if those tires start to wobble at all as they lose air. Hopefully if he struck either side with a nice I'm sorry. Winding way. Copy that. Copy that. Copy that. All right. Oh no. Oh no. right into cross traffic and the driver loses control right into the hillside there at a major intersection. That's going to be Kanan Doom Road and the driver is now jumping out of the vehicle. There's two kids inside that vehicle and we have Okay, he's running. He's on the run. They're going to chase him up this embankment here. There are children inside that vehicle. We'll go back in just a second. Right now, we're going to stick with the driver. California Highway Patrol chasing the suspect up the embankment as he runs for his life here up the hillside on the west side into an apartment complex right along PCH at Kan and Doom Road. A major crash there with cross traffic right along PCH at Kanan Doom. The driver still running barefoot taking off a sweater and continuing to run through this apartment complex towards the beach or Oh, this is terrible. This is just terrible. He's continuing this foot pursuit here uh at Point Doom through a field in Point Doom. He's running through an open field here. We'll see if that that that officer was able to uh was able to make his way up that embankment with him here. It was a it was a pretty steep embankment and he is now going to start running out. Look at he's really start That's got to be really uncomfortable barefoot running through this field. Uh he's still running. Can't see anybody behind him. Can't anybody behind him, Rob? Anybody at all? I just don't I don't lose him. I don't see anybody behind him. I don't see anybody behind him yet. He's running through the trees. At some point, I want to get an address here at the end of this in this uh this uh this neighborhood. We'll try and get the street. He's running through the vegetation behind some private property, some steep terrain here in Point Doom. And he is navigating it pretty well considering he's barefoot here. He is slowing down a little bit. There is private property not far from his position here, but he's in an open field uh off of Port Shed Road right off of Kan and Doom, right off of PCH. You saw him jump out of the vehicle after a violent crash. At some point, we will get a condition on those kids and we will uh get a shot of that vehicle, but right now we are one of the only people with a view of this suspect. Law enforcement is at a real disadvantage here. They're trying to get into position. The airship had to pull off for fuel. Those ground officers, those officers on the ground, I should say, uh did not make their way up that embankment as successfully as he did. And now he is trying to climb through barbed wire to try and hide out. He's run through a field off of PortHed Road, now walking through private. Go back to the suspect. The kids are being removed from the vehicle. Uh you can see this violent crash scene at the end of Kanan Doom Road at PCH. A violent crash. The vehicle losing control after crashing into after crashing. Oh no. Somebody is holding that that child on the side of the road. Uh at least one child now. And that I believe there were two. There was a report of children uh at the outset of this pursuit. To the best of our information, there were at least two kids, but we have a visual now of one child being tended to. No ambulance on site yet on scene. Uh it looks like perhaps an innocent bystander attending to that child who is moving around on the shoulder here. This is going to be the southbound side of PCH. Uh the entire highway has now been shut down. And you can see there is somebody else it looks like inside. Oh, there's a sheet. Oh god. It looks like the boy along the side of the road may be the boy that was in the front seat and now they've pulled a child seat out of the rear of this vehicle. Oh boy, this is tough to watch. It looks like it looks like where Okay, there he is. There's the passenger. There's the passenger. Okay, so the passenger is actually now being escorted out of the vehicle. He is walking. He appears to be okay. And perhaps perhaps the child in the red shirt maybe was uh in the child seat or perhaps there are maybe even more than two children. We don't know. Is there a baby in the seat or is that seat empty? Rob, do you know? Can you see if there's any that they would be tending to the baby? If there was a baby in there, they would have somebody Is he talking to a child inside that baby seat? There is a child. There's three children here. There's a child. A toddler. There's a Okay. There's a toddler in the child seat and two other children being tended to. So they they've now appeared to have rescued three children from this car. The child in the red shirt clearly in pain. They've escorted another child from the passenger seat. That's the child that we saw through the windshield. And now a toddler in that child's seat that has now been freed from the rear of We're going to go over in custody. It is the suspect. Suspect is in custody. Confirmation now that the suspect is in custody. That's the word from the LA County Sheriff's Department. We're going to make our way over to the neighborhood there where you see all of those flashing lights and try and get a visual of that suspect now under arrest. Uh but it does appear uh well, it is now confirmed uh that that suspect is indeed in custody. >> The suspect was eventually arrested after fleeing a crash scene on foot and attempting to hide in a nearby neighborhood. The three children and an injured woman from another vehicle were transported to hospitals with injuries that were not considered life-threatening while investigators pursued charges including kidnapping, vehicle theft, and felony evading. Investigators proceeded with fleeing related charges while additional traffic violations connected to the incident were also documented. Tuesday, July 22nd, 2025. California Highway Patrol officers were pursuing a suspected impaired driver through the San Fernando Valley after repeated attempts to [music] stop him failed. As the chase continued, the driver blasted through intersections and narrowly avoided several collisions while trying to stay ahead of police. Extreme speeds. He has been doing very dangerous speeds on surface streets and driving very recklessly to say the least as he has blown through a number of red lights. Lots of close calls. Now a much safer situation on the freeway. Still though refusing to pull over as California Highway Patrol tries to bring this to an end. That suspect behind the wheel of that red vehicle is believed to be under the influence. So, a DUI driver on the run from California Highway Patrol. The LA County Sheriff's Department helping out here with their airship overhead. At times, this pursuit has gotten so dangerous they have considered just letting him go. But now, they've got close eyes on him. A pit maneuver has been authorized if the opportunity allows. And you can see now two black and whites right on his tail as he crosses all those lanes. Four, five lanes from the left lane all the way to the right lane. And a quick move here. Maybe thinking about exiting the freeway as he approaches Haskell. Balboa. Close call. Getting off of Balboa. A close call with that white sedan. And he continues to get off the freeway here. Coming up on Balboa Boulevard where he's got a red light. He will have no trouble blowing through that red. He's got the green now. Making the right turn here southbound on Baloa Boulevard. Let's see if he slows down enough for that pit. It's a possible Ford Fusion. We're trying to confirm the making model here. Red light through traffic here. Cuts all those people off. And California Highway Patrol with their lights and sirens blaring as he crosses over the double yellow lines now picking up speed going eastbound. I'm sorry, westbound on Ventura Boulevard. Westbound Ventura Boulevard. Back over on the correct side of Ventura. That California Highway Patrol unit. He is waiting for his opportunity to spin that vehicle out of control here. You can see a lot more traffic now on Ventura Boulevard as he crosses over into oncoming lanes of traffic. The other side of the median now going back over the double yellow lines here looking for any room to squeeze through here and try and create some space between him and those CHP units. Another red light there. Blew right through that. Making a right turn. There's LA County Sheriff uh continuing to follow this pursuit overhead speed. We do not know if there's anybody else inside this car, but we're about to get our first glimpse through the front windshield to see if we can get a better description of the suspect who has one hand on the steering wheel, another hand on the right console there, and he is really starting to wobble a little bit. We understand this is possibly a Ford Fusion, but the the the rear of that vehicle is starting to bounce around a little bit and is acting a little bit wobbly. Not clear whether he has been in any kind of a collision, but he's just seems to be fighting that steering wheel as he crosses into the HOV lane. Coming up on Valley Vista, southbound side of the 405 freeway. CHP on his tail. Looks like he's going to commit to the Sulva commit to the Seulva pass here as he gets over to the right. No, he's getting off. Getting pass here as he gets over to the right. No, he's getting off. Getting off at Valley Vista. off at Valley Vista Boulevard off the 405 the exit ramp there and he collides with that vehicle. A parked car in the driveway there. CHP with their gun back out here. The doors are jammed. He went full speed through the bushes into a parked car into a house. You can see that parked car is is a residential uh property. You can see that red vehicle now wedged in the bushes at the end of the Valley Vista exit ramp off of the southbound side of the 405 freeway. They're looking in the back seat here. We'll see if there's anybody back there. Looks like the back seat appears empty. >> The pursuit ended when the red sedan crashed into a parked vehicle and became lodged near a residential property. Officers quickly took the driver into custody where he faced allegations related to driving under the influence, reckless driving, and felony evading law enforcement. That may be where this pursuit ended, but the story behind these encounters rarely stops at a single chase.
