The story you're telling us is complete. Okay. Do you understand that? Because what you're telling me didn't happen. >> You're going to get the penalty when we are able to prosecute that. It qualifies for a penalty case. >> Meet 17-year-old Owen Cosme, currently realizing that killing three people in cold blood comes with its consequences. And worst yet, doing it all while being caught on camera. >> So, I went back and I pulled all the video and I've got all the surveillance. So, I got you there. I mean, I know that you're there. >> But what cops have discovered is just a small part of Owen's story. Because behind each lie that comes from his mouth is a devastating past that will lead detectives to one simple conclusion. >> You need to wise up real quick because all this you're telling me is complete, complete lies. Okay. >> You know you've been proven wrong, right? You lied to us. Look, you want me to leave, Chico? Yeah. We're done. We're done. On the night of February 8th, 2021, Jacksonville Sheriff's Office gang unit officers were patrolling near the Callaway Cove Apartments when they suddenly heard a burst of gunfire. Just moments later, they saw a dark-colored car flying out of the complex parking lot, speeding recklessly and trying to flee the scene. And it immediately became clear that whoever was responsible for the shooting was inside that vehicle. As a chase ensued, officers finally stopped the car using a pit maneuver and found four teenagers inside. 17-year-old Owen Maya Cosme, 17-year-old Kaishon Glover, 18-year-old Keon Lester, and 14-year-old Alana Sears, who was driving. Before officers even mentioned a shooting, the teens immediately started blurting out, "We didn't shoot those people, and we didn't kill anybody." which is an insane thing to say considering investigators hadn't even confirmed anyone was dead yet or even hurt. So they rushed back into Callaway Cove and inside one of the apartments they found the massacre the teens were already talking about. Sarah Cancel Uriola Randy Garcia and Angel Rivera Nater were found shot dead. The apartment had been ransacked and cash along with a white powdery substance believed to be narcotics was left out in plain sight. From every clue at the scene, it was obvious this was a robbery that went terribly, terribly wrong. But there was still one question. How? What made things escalate to the point that three people were dead and four teens were suddenly on the brink of having their lives ruined? To get answers, detectives brought in Owen Cosme for an interview. But why him specifically? Because when investigators pulled CCTV footage from the complex, Owen stood out immediately. Unlike the others, he was not wearing a ski mask and had his face uncovered, making him the easiest person to identify on camera. Moreover, the other people in the car said Owen was the one who ran back from the apartment complex and told them to drive off. That detail lined up with what investigators saw on the footage, which meant that he was most likely the one who entered the apartment and pulled the trigger out of the 14s. The following footage was provided to us by the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office. Ow. And how did you come? How did you end up in the car tonight? >> Okay. Well, I I'm in my house today, but I I visited my mama today. So, bigger mama. She move. I'm stay with my baby. So, visited to mama today. I'mma stay with her. They just call me. I just want to smoke. >> Who called you? >> KG. >> KG? >> Yeah. That the only one I know in the car. I don't know. >> What's he look like? Body >> bro with a I think he know >> the short twist. >> He he go to school with me before. >> What was he wearing tonight? Do you remember what kind of jacket he had on? Nbody like normally like okay I don't know. >> Anyways so KG you call KG call you or you call KG? >> Um no he call me like what you do? I'm like no I he like all I call you right right back. I'm like all right I'll wait. Boom. Then he called me. I call him what you going to do? He like send me the L. I s he pulled up, he pick me up. He like, "We got smoke. That's it." So we was move to do the noise. >> Mhm. >> And I'm going stay on the car. That's it. So soon they they go outside. They like away from me. I think go pick it up the ground. >> So that's it. We go me on the car. I thought we her but I don't know her neither. I don't know. Nobody on the gate. >> Okay. So, y'all get to the apartments and they all got out of the car. >> No, no, no. They picked me up in Arlington, >> right? And y'all went to the north side. >> Uhhuh. >> Why did y'all go to the north side? >> For the smoke? >> For the smoke. So, y'all going to get weed? >> Mhm. Okay. When y'all got there, what happened? >> I just stay on the car because I don't know nobody. You know why? I don't I don't feel it go no place. I don't know. So I'mma stay on the car. He like I think it'll be the ground. >> He think it'll be the ground with a smoke. Everybody go. Okay. >> Just when I hear like I hear some noise and then I see that them coming. >> So someone see them coming like they go inside the car. We left. Let's see. I And and and I and I ain't about to I about to stay right there because I know something wrong. But end of the day already inside the car. I I never go outside the car. >> So boom. >> That when when we when they police hit the car. >> Mhm. >> That mistake. Everybody trying to [clears throat] run. I ain't trying to run. I'm do nothing. I just came for smoke. I ain't got nothing. I I just I just got my phone with my ID. So that's all you got with you. >> Let's break down Owen's first version of events. According to him, Kahan Glover, also known as KG, invited him out to buy or smoke weed. That he claims is the only reason they went to the apartment complex. Owen insists he never left the car. In his telling, he was just a passenger and when police arrested him, it was only because he happened to be sitting there. But as the interrogation continues, that story will start to shift dramatically. >> When you got in the car, all you had was your phone and ID. >> Yes, sir. >> Okay. So, if there's a black bag in that car that doesn't belong to you. >> What? What? >> If we find a bag >> Uhhuh. >> in the car that you >> What do you mean about like like >> like a book bag? >> Okay. >> You know what that is? >> Yes, sir. >> Okay. If we find a book bag in the car, >> it's all black. That doesn't belong to you. >> Okay. >> My DNA is >> I'm gone. Yeah. So, >> if we find a gun in the car. >> Mhm. >> Do any of those belong to you? >> Um, the 380. >> The 380. Okay. >> That my brother, he left me the 380 before. >> Hey, for real. >> Okay. What? What kind of 380? >> Just a >> Do you know what brand? Like Smith and Wesson Glock? >> Oh, I don't know. No, I don't know. It's a red. It's silver. Um I think I don't know. He He just let me >> What color is it? >> Silver like >> like chrome. Like silver. So he let me out before he go Puerto Rico and I just I don't feel safe. >> So >> I take that one but that one got like one bullet. So >> but I just take it because I don't know nobody inside the car. I don't really know KG but I don't know his army. You feel me? I don't know if they can do something to me. I already got one child and I already go through a a a lot. You feel me? I just came out there DDC. I do the probation and I'm finished. And right now I do everything everything good. So right now today I ain't got my phone. But today I can show you a message. If somebody bring me my phone today, they better pick me up to 10:00 on this day. 10:00 on the night so that I'm smoke with him first. So that way they can pick me up and they can drum me on on Atlanta because I work on Atlanta. I work on Miami, Atlanta. It don't matter where um Orlando, California, you see construction they pay me cash. >> So I be doing good this like after my probation. I be doing good. I got the the paper and I got the proof, so I'll be doing good. I just smoke. >> Owen was already on juvenile probation with prior felony charges involving weapons and drugs. He had been arrested multiple times as a minor for illegal firearm possession and narcotics. But he wasn't the only one with a record. Kahan Glover also had a violent juvenile history, including a felony domestic battery at age 14 and involvement in a planned drive-by shooting in 2019. Keon's full record wasn't made public, but investigators confirmed he was a repeat juvenile offender and oddly the most cooperative of the group. As for the getaway driver, Alana, she was just 13 years old when she was arrested for credit card theft before this incident. Every person involved had prior run-ins with police and all of them identified Owen as the shooter and the one who planned this entire robbery. So, you have no idea who lived at that apartment y'all went to that they went to tonight on the north side. Do you have any idea who lived there? >> What? >> To the apartment where y'all went and the police stopped y'all? That apartment where you went to get smoke? Oh, okay. >> Do you know who lived there? But I don't know about it right now. Okay. >> I just don't go nowhere like right now with me [clears throat] with with my baby mama. >> Okay. >> What I need to go to somewhere please. Okay. Owen, listen to me. If I say something you don't understand, listen to me. I want you to be clear. If I say something, because I'm about to say a whole lot to you, okay? And I'm I'm been sitting here just kind of relaxing, letting you say your thing. If I say something you don't understand, let me know, okay? All right. The the story you're telling us, okay, is complete horseshit. Okay? Do you understand that? It's not true. Okay? We know what happened. You made a for one some dumb reason you took four other people with you to go do a robbery tonight. Okay. So we have four other people telling us a different completely different story. >> I hope >> okay this is your chance okay to tell me what happened tonight and try to give me some reasoning as to why it happened. Okay. Because what you're telling me didn't happen. Okay, I know I know that you had a gun tonight. I know that you pulled a trigger tonight. Okay, you can sit here and and do this all night. Okay, end of the day. All right, I'm going to I have ways I can look at your phone, okay? Because I know you showed them a picture on your phone, okay, >> of the guy that y'all went to go try and rob, which y'all did not, which you ended up killing tonight. Okay. Two, I'm going to pull your DNA and I bet you I can put it on that bag and more than that one gun. Okay. Three, that gun that's in the car that you tried to take apart and probably throw out the window, you were unsuccessful in that. So, I have the way to identify that gun to all those casings at the scene where you murdered those three people tonight. Okay. So, you need to wise up real quick. >> When investigators ran ballistic tests on the 20 shell casings recovered at the scene, the result proved they were all fired from the same weapon, the exact same weapon Owen owned. But that wasn't the end of it. When the firearm was entered into Nibben, it returned a hit to an entirely separate unsolved case from 2020, a cold case in which Owen had already been a person of interest. That case involved the murder of his child's maternal uncle, believed to be connected to an ongoing custody dispute. The shell casings from that scene match the same gun used here, which means this clearly isn't Owen's first rodeo because all this you're telling me is complete complete lies. Okay, it's fine. We can play this game. We can do the I don't know. I don't know. I think you I think you speak better English to be perfectly honest with you because everybody I talked to said, "Oh, no. We know him as Chico." Yeah. Everybody calls him Chico. >> Yeah. I've known him for years and he called me on the phone. Yeah. So, it's >> Okay. Okay. Okay. Let's talk. Let's talk my phone. You said you my phone. Okay. I ain't got no trouble. You will see the message. I go on translate on translate because I don't know how to write English. I don't know how to read English. I call the people God like, "Yo, what what you say?" Because I don't know how to read English. You can you can see on my phone. >> I don't do no bad to nobody. I ain't no bad. I don't I don't got do no bad thing for nothing right now. I got a job. >> What? [sighs] >> Why I need to do something if I got a job? >> I don't know. That's why I'm trying to figure out. That's why I'm in here asking you. Okay. >> Okay, sir. That I that tell you. You feel me? >> Yeah, but what you're telling me is not true. >> I mean that that my that me because I'm on the car. I ain't going nowhere. [clears throat] You can you can check me. You say you go do it. I say I ain't got no trouble. If I say if I got trouble, I can say, "Oh, let me let me go to my lawyer something." But I ain't got no trouble, I say do it. You feel me? I say, "Can you bring me the phone so you can see everything?" I say the truth right now. I mean, if they want to say whatever they want to say, I'm the only one Puerto Rican in the car. So, >> okay. So, they know everybody, they know each other. I don't know. I only know KG. So, three people who have been separated from the time y'all got arrested told me the same exact version of events, would they? >> Nice. >> Little changes here and there. >> Now, Owen might try to play the race card, but that isn't enough to talk himself out of the literal mountain of evidence that detectives have. >> So, what happened over there, man? What happened? H >> What happened over there at the apartment? >> All right. Oh, you I they beat me. You want me start? [laughter] >> Tell me what you did. Don't tell me what they did. Tell me what you did. What happened over there? >> You want me to tell you what I did? >> Yeah. >> Sit on the car as my B and wait for them to go get the >> So when they reviewing those cameras, they about to bring them in here now. That's that camera that's pointing up the apartment that's over to the right. It's going to show it's going to show that, right? Exactly what you're saying. And if it's not showing that, what can I do to you? Whatever. >> Okay, thank you. >> Whatever. I ain't got no trouble. >> You see, man, but I'm grown on my mind because I got responsibility that >> responsibility. Yeah. >> I got responsibility with my with my son and with my daughter. >> So, I ain't got a I ain't got time for go nowhere for I ain't got time for do nothing. I got time for work. See my baby. >> You got time to go over and buy a smoke. You got time? >> No, I ain't buy it. I ain't buy I I ain't got >> I know you didn't buy it cuz you you murdered the guy and there's two people in the house. >> He said he said you want to smoke. That's it. You want to smoke? I'm like I ain't got I ain't got money today. They beat me because I'm gone. I'm like >> they were picking you up to go get 40 bands. >> Nah, they I don't talking about nobody. [clears throat] I talking about my job. Mhm. >> I talking about my job. My job me >> and then I go Atlanta. They say they came 10 to 10:00 10:30. >> That's my question. And let me ask you this. So y'all going to go over there and rob this guy for $40,000. 40 bands. >> But you never go inside. Like why did you just I mean I don't understand that you >> got scared. Whoa. >> Chica or Chica? >> Oh, just tell me the truth. >> I I telling you the truth right now. >> No, you're not. >> Yeah. Why you never went inside to get the money or the drugs, man? >> I don't know what you're talking about. I just be on the car. They say that if somebody told you I go tomorrow to work >> and you didn't see him for for let's say Soon you'll be on dinner. I be I stay on Justina like I did. So probably you didn't see me like I did. >> So he told you he go to work like on my laptop. He came back like no more. He like all right I put on you smoke. >> That's it. You think I got to go somewhere? No. No. I'm like, it's too f >> I I'mma stay on island. I want to go to folly. >> You go get a lick. >> What? I mean lit. >> You go get a lick. >> No longer still take >> rob this guy. >> Oh, I don't know what they going to do. They just they they finish. You want to smoke? I'm like, yeah, >> you you >> that was your plan, too. What? >> My plan? >> Yeah. Was it your plan? You came up with your plan? >> No. >> No, you just do. You thought of it on your own and you needed their help. >> That's why you bought the guns, huh? >> What guns? >> They don't mind >> in the book. Black book bag. That's why you bought the guns. >> No. >> So they can help you. >> You get to the apartment right here. Black. going on. >> The one in the car that belongs to you that you brought. >> Mhm. >> Chico, the police out here, man. We still got to do it. >> Who? Sound familiar? >> No. >> He didn't tell they was telling Chico, "Man, the police here, man, we shouldn't do this shit." >> I mean, I just want to know why. Like, why are you so mad at this guy? >> Why didn't he take Did he do something to you? Did someone put you up to this? >> What's somebody paid you to do it? >> What's the purpose of killing this guy? And the sad thing is, not only do you kill him, you killed two other people. >> But what guy you talking about? >> The drug dealer. >> Who trying to trying to know who? If I only go If I >> The guy you showed a picture of in the car on the way over there. Yeah. >> You showed a picture of this guy. We're going to rob this guy. We know. You know this guy. >> I told them nothing. I don't know nothing. If I The only person I know is KG. I don't know nobody inside the car. Why go talk with everybody? I only talk with KG. And I told him, "Hey everybody." >> You showed KG. You said you know this guy >> and it's a picture of the guy laying dead in the apartment right now. Nah, I ain't say nothing. If he say something that's on him that they ain't got to do nothing with me. I telling you the truth that that's of you or them. Like if you want to believe them, whatever. >> That's just all their versions of the story match. >> And they all said the same thing. It was Owen who set everything in motion. According to the group, Owen called Keon and told him he wanted to rob the victim's apartment. He specifically asked for a car to use, which is how Alana entered the picture, driving a vehicle she had stolen earlier from neighboring Klay County. Once they arrived at the apartment complex, Owen instructed Kan, Keon, and Robert to stay downstairs while he went up alone and knocked on the door. The moment it opened, Owen opened fire. He discharged more than 20 rounds in rapid succession, killing the victims almost instantly. Within moments, the group fled the scene, leaving the bodies behind, completely unaware that there was an active patrol right next to them. >> Did you hear any gunshots? >> H >> Did you hear anybody shoot? >> I told you the first time. >> I don't know. I I told you. I told you the first time. What? I told you when you when you told me, "Oh, what happened?" I told you. I don't know. I see the I I hear the noise and I see them running. I just hear pop and >> But you stay in the car. >> I'mma stay in the car. Who else in the Who else was in the car with you? >> The uncle. >> Hm. >> The The lady The lady. >> What's her name? >> Huh? >> What's her name? >> I don't know her. >> You don't know. Y'all just stayed in the car. >> Uhhuh. I go wait. >> You just wait. You and her wait. >> Uh-huh. We We We wait. >> Okay. >> Me and him. >> What? What were you guys saying in the car? Did she talk to you? >> Nah, I drunk. I drunk. >> But she didn't say anything. Okay. Not changed for anything. >> I was never in the car. >> Huh? >> You was never in the car. >> I'm in the car. You You can see You can see on the camera. >> I know. >> You can see it. >> I seen it already. >> So you see >> That's what I'm telling you. You wasn't there? >> Yeah, I in the car. >> No, Chico. You wasn't in the car. >> No. >> Okay, you go see it. >> I did already. >> You want to tell me the truth about what happened? >> I told you. I told you. I tell you that >> you know you've been proven wrong, right? >> Huh? >> You know you lied to us, man. >> And we came in, he asked you from the beginning. He said, "Be honest with me." I want you to be honest. >> And you're not honest with us, man. >> If I honest, I say >> you hurt our feelings, man. >> Listen to me. If I >> don't hurt our feelings, Chico. >> No. No. >> Yes. No. I ain't lying. We're hurting cuz you're lying to us. >> Look, he's leaving. He's hurt. >> Let's go. >> Look, >> you want me to leave, Chico? >> Yeah, we're done. >> We're done. >> If I lie, I say I need a lawyer. And I never say I need a lawyer, so I lie. >> With detectives leaving, two others come into the interrogation shortly after to discuss Owen's involvement in the 2020 murder. You know this one? >> I I see on the news that that one um >> his girlfriend video he posted on on Facebook. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> And she was 9 months pregnant. Um and she was getting ready. She was so n you know cuz you got a two-month-old. So she was 9 months pregnant [snorts] and the next week so she was killed and the next week uh they had scheduled her to have a C-section. You know what that is? where they they basically they where she's gonna have the baby. I'm not a doctor and I don't play one on TV. Uh and I don't like Holiday Express. So, she's gonna have a baby um the week be she's killed, but the next week she was scheduled to go to the hospital and they were going to do a procedure where she would have the baby. So, the baby um so she's shot. She lives for a few hours. They transport her to the hospital. they're able to take the baby um successfully out and the baby lives on life support for about three months [snorts] and then so it's a double homicide. So she's dead and the dead and so this is um not just a murder case. This is a you're going to get the death penalty. I don't mean you this subjectively. You're going to get the death penalty. we when we are able to prosecute that and I say that's all the best case scenario there'll be >> [snorts] >> um you know trials and all that kind of stuff but it it qualifies for a death penalty case in other words because some murders are you can do x amount of time now I don't handle all that that's for attorneys they're way smarter than I am as a matter of fact we got a couple around this place um and they're brilliant people I'm not that smart um but so it can play out in a court system So, here's the deal. So, what we're looking for now is anybody who has any information on it, which can help us out um on that stuff. Now, I know just because I'm really good at what I do. >> Um I know who killed her. Um I know who those people are and I'm closing the net in on them and um very soon they're going to get picked up by the arrest. your name came up because on fifth um who you know uh said that uh told me about you that you guys were um that he knew you you were okay introduced you to Douggee one day um they had some conversations about that you're out there at the same time and all that stuff Red Rum the guy that I showed you >> said that and again I'm not investigating this part cuz I do. If somebody is killed, if if somebody is shot or shot at, that's not me. I don't handle that stuff. though. Um, so Miles Redum told me that you're up at the store up at Justina and for some reason an argument or whatever. I don't know why. What if maybe you can help me is you or maybe he's lying. I I don't know. But he tells me that you um shoot at him the day before his baby mama was um shot and killed. So, and so I went back and I pulled all the video and I've got all the surveillance and I've got a So, I got you there. I mean, I know that you're there. Do Why would he say that if Well, first of all, is that true? Did you shoot at him? Maybe. Did he? >> No. If you see a camera, I'm on the >> You're in the store >> during that happen. >> So, I don't know. I don't know when they shoot him. >> Um, well, we know when she was killed. Not that the dates are fairly irrelevant, but I will say that the her murder happened on Monday, October the 7th. So, Red Rome was shot at Sunday, October the 6th. So, it was the night before he was shot at. For the next several minutes, Owen would continue calling the witness who reported him a liar and denies any involvement in what happened, prompting detectives to leave him alone. But eventually, Owen himself calls Detective Smith back. Because for the 5 hours he spends alone in the interrogation room, he's come up with a completely different story in hopes of finally being able to leave. What's up, boy? >> Your stomach [snorts] hurts. Okay, I know you say you had to go. Give me a few minutes. Okay. Can you wait a few more minutes? Let me see how long and I can give you exact time. Okay. Cuz you wanted to talk to me again, right? Okay. Can you give me two or three minutes, please? >> No. No. >> We got a lot of stuff to do, man. >> But you you keep going with 3 minutes. Let me talk to you real quick. >> Huh? >> Let me talk to you real quick. [snorts] Listen, I don't know he or not. But it no le nothing like that. It no le nothing like that. It's more big. What I'm trying to say is it's kilos but I quit the street. They call me they like hey you ain't got no place. I'm like nah I f no more with the street. You feel me? M. >> So they keep going, "Oh, but you know somebody with money." I know. But >> they was asking you, "Did you know anybody with money >> or kilos?" [clears throat] only one person, you know, like he got kilo that him kg. >> Boom. But that one, he hear kilo. So the the >> kilos he got kilos >> or what? >> Kilo. or what >> co >> they they too big. So I tell him I'm with a tree don't do nothing to him because I know him and I only go tell you the door and I'm going stay on the car. I want nothing. You feel me? >> So you showed him where the guy live? >> Yes sir. But >> so do you know the guy? [clears throat] >> Listen. Boom. I don't know him like that. >> But I know him because on the street when you a street man, you'll hear who is the big on on on the street, >> right? >> But he in the big he got one on top of him, but he move like 10 kilo like every week. Every week he move 10 kilo, 10 kilo, 10 kilo, 10 kilo. So that mean he got a lot. Um, I told them if he ain't got nothing on the house, just go. Don't do nothing. You feel me? Because if you do something, they go pay for us. Like they got million for pay for whoever do something to him. >> Mhm. >> They got million for pay. So that I want to talk with mama because I want to know if mama could. I don't do nothing but want to know with mama because they like not too many people they know where he live. Only the people they know they um he moved the killer right right on the complex. >> Okay. I talked to mama. Mom is good. I just got off the phone. >> Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. >> Owen now admits that he led the group to the victim's apartment because he believed they were dealing narcotics. How much the victims actually knew or how involved they truly were remains unclear, but what officers did find at the scene speaks for itself. More than 100 oxycottton pills and a large quantity of white powder, the kind Walter White built his career on, if you catch my drift. >> I love, >> but that thing is >> I don't know what I'm Can I talk like normally? >> Yeah. I don't I don't know how to say good word. >> You feel me? I want to talk with you >> because my dad he black. So >> I talk like him. >> Okay. >> I want to throw him. He look me weird and all that kind of stuff. You feel me? >> Right. You took him over there so they can >> they can do whatever they want. >> You can rob him, right? >> You took him over there to rob him. >> I mean I ain't take it because I ain't driving. >> Well, you showed them where you >> uh I chose them, >> right? I chose them because they want to they want to make some >> make some money. How much money you keep in the house? >> Oh, I don't know the money. I know that I know like he got some kilo sometime. >> But you don't know if he got money. >> N I told you they lie because I know say they got money. I say he got kilo. >> Who say he had uh who say he had money or >> huh? >> Who say he had money in the house? >> I say a kilo. Kilo mean probably if you give one kilo you will say that's money right there but you say >> he got money kilo that's money right there and I ain't need no money because I don't know how much they pay you for day but they pay me for day on construction 200 >> Mhm. every day. Owen was eventually identified as the organizer and shooter and was charged with three counts of secondderee murder, armed burglary, and assault and conspiracy to commit armed robbery. He was later charged with seconddegree murder in the separate 2020 homicide. By June 2025, Owen was sentenced to four life sentences for the triple murder and burglary, plus 25 years for the 2020 killing. As for the others, Kaishan Glover and Keon Lester both pleaded guilty in March 2022 to three counts of secondderee murder and armed robbery. Robert Kay, the fifth accomplice, was charged with felony murder and conspiracy to commit armed robbery. And finally, Alana Sears, the 14-year-old driver who was charged as a juvenile with accessory after the fact, conspiracy to commit armed robbery, and fleeing and eluding law enforcement. Because several of them were juveniles at the time, not every final outcome is publicly available. Our thoughts go out to the families and loved ones of Sarah, Randy, and Angel.
