Have you ever been to the website, rentahitman.com? I'm going to show you some emails. It says, "Hi, I'm in issues." That's you. This is your email you sent us. >> This absolute specimen is Wendy Wein. For the past 24 hours, Wendy has been in touch with a hitman she hired off this website, believing he would put an end to her ex-husband once and for all, unaware that her gun-for-hire was no hitman at all. >> A state trooper posing as the hitman, and at that time an arrest was made. >> Because for all of that time, Wendy was unknowingly talking to an undercover officer, spilling every detail of her murder plot. >> When you look at the website rentahitman.com, it's almost shocking to the conscience that someone could see that and actually believe that. >> Wait a second. You're a hatchet picture offer? >> In July of 2020, police in southeastern Michigan received a call that, quite frankly, seems like something out of a comedy movie. Bob Innes, a man who owns a parody website called rentahitman.com, passed along to the police that a woman had made a very real request with him to have her ex-husband murdered, which is pretty ridiculous when you consider the fact that the website reads in fine print, "By submitting this application, you acknowledge that rentahitman, your point-and-click solution, is a legal parody website and does not condone or engage in illegal activities. Any real or incriminating requests will be promptly forwarded to law enforcement. This site is for entertainment and educational purposes only. No whacking, offing, or funny business allowed. We reserve the right to decline any application, and all communications become RAH property for public or private use. We encourage you to read the fine print, but for those who don't, buckle up, buttercup. It's going to be a bumpy ride." And Wendy Wein, the 51-year-old grandma of of year who had been the person to email the website was definitely in for a bumpy ride. She was instructed to meet with her hitman at a local diner, where she did, and handed over $200 as her initial payment for having her ex-husband, who lived in Tennessee, killed. Moments later, she was cuffed and taken on her walk of shame to the local police station, where she was read her rights, and the police immediately got down to business. >> Do you want to ask some questions? Okay. Do you know who you're offending? Pardon me? I You're a weakling. I'm a god. >> So, here's the deal. Uh I know this isn't ideal for you or this is where you want to be, okay? And you want to get your side of the story. Okay? But, I will be asking you a lot of questions here. A lot of these questions I already know the answer to. Okay? So, I need your word about it. You're going to be honest. Honest. Honest. Okay? Cuz rather than you just saying, "I don't want to talk." You're going to lie. You can even walk, okay? So, you'll be completely honest? >> And >> On a scale of 1 to 10, how honest are you? 1 being never tell the truth, 10 being always tell the truth. >> I would always tell the truth. >> So, you're a 10? Okay, that's fine. Fine. There's no point in lying. That's right. Okay. So, it means you're being a 10 today. So, rate your life on a scale of 1 to 10. 1 being the worst, 10 being the best. >> I'm an introvert. If I don't I don't socialize. I don't like people much. >> Well, introverts can have a good life. So, what would you rate your life though? >> I didn't ask that. >> Five? >> Five or six. >> Five or six. >> I've never been in trouble in my life. More than just eating cake. >> Okay. >> I think you're on the right track. >> Now, usually we're dealing with liars on this here channel, but in this case we aren't dealing with a liar. We're just dealing with an idiot. Because when the detective tries to gently broach the topic of the shooting by asking who her least favorite person is, she immediately names her ex-husband, who she tried to get killed. Keep in mind, his name is redacted throughout the interrogation to protect his privacy. Not only because he was, well, almost killed, but because he's probably not too proud of having been married to a person who has two brain cells fighting for first place. Before we dive into her explanation for those actions, if you want to see more people caught for their stupid mistakes, be sure to like and subscribe. It's literally all we do here. >> Who is that to you? >> Nobody. >> Well, >> [snorts] >> I know I understand what you're trying to say nobody, but how do you know reason why you you you know have these feelings toward him. >> So, what is it about him? Who is he to you? How do you know >> At one time, he used to be the most abusive person I've ever met. Now, he just in choir air my son. My son was in a bubble empty by my son. Something I did. >> Mhm. Well, let's back up here. Who is he though to you? How do you know him? >> I used to be married to him. First he like God. >> What does that mean? >> I didn't know until I left. My husband I did. He never sent the divorce papers. >> Who never sent the divorce papers? >> I did. >> So, you were still I don't understand. But, you were who never signed divorce papers, your husband? He died and signed divorce papers? >> No, I was not. >> So, why would he have to sign divorce papers if he died? >> It's just people that >> So, you tried to get a divorce from your husband and also marry Was that correct? >> Yeah. >> When were you married or thought you were married >> past the grace. >> Okay. And why did you guys break up? >> He said He's a liar. He hurts people. He doesn't care about anything. >> And did you report that to the police? >> I did not. >> Okay. >> He didn't. >> Okay. And how did that investigation come out? >> He didn't do anything with it. >> Okay. >> [snorts] >> Do you use any illegal narcotics? >> I had to try to let the cashier have to take >> What medication is that? >> I take I take >> Do you smoke? >> Yes, but >> Okay, I was going to quit. >> But, but first I probably smoke and call and everything and the lung being sick and everything got to me, so I started smoking and then four days ago my mom was screaming at me and I started crying anyway. >> Okay, so you quit four days ago. Good. >> Because her ex's name is redacted, we couldn't find any publicly available information about him or their relationship, aside from the fact that they had been separated for at least 10 years and live several states apart. Still, that wasn't enough for Wendy. She wanted him gone. And the day of this interrogation, she set out to make that happen by scheduling a meeting with the hitman she met on the totally real, not at all obviously fake site rentahitman.com. Because with testimonies like this, how could anyone think it was fake? >> Tell me about your day today. What did you do? >> I got up this morning, getting a Coke's coffee. Watched my mom do her song. Post duty. We were discussing what I needed. And I talked to whoever I was with. Was there. Went back to where my mom was. Back to mom's. Play station. Covered rest. >> Okay. Obviously, there's other little details I need to clear up there, right? So, you said you made a comment you talked to whoever it was that was there. I I don't know what that means. Can you tell me about that? >> Whatever guy it was that was meeting me. Supposedly take care You know what I mean. What that was what he needed. >> What did you guys talk about? >> Getting rid of you. >> What do you mean by getting rid of you? >> Have to do that. >> You want to You want to Did you want that guy you talked to to kill him? Why? >> I've had I guess I'm just He snapped in front of me. It's like the last number standing is top. Like what daughter said. Like everyone's least favorite. Everybody's head on top of them. Talker? >> What? So, I I know you said you talked to your girlfriend, but which we do have you killed? Did you guys talk about anything as far as paying him to or any arrangements? >> Each one being that he'd want a motorcycle and ton of high-end high piles and tires. I had to give him $500 or something. Which I didn't have. He said I ain't on this system that we like. I never would have been able to do that. He said if I didn't explain what we done >> Sure. Did you believe him? >> I believe anybody who threatens to like >> Pardon? >> I believe anybody who threatens. >> Well, did you pay him $500 up front? How much did you pay him? >> I gave him $200. >> That afternoon, Wendy met up with an undercover officer to exchange money for the hit. The two had a consultation at a local cafe and then traveled to a local 7-Eleven where she took out money from an ATM to pay him. Although the total cost was set at $5,000 for the imaginary hit, she could only offer 200 as a deposit. But evidently, she wasn't too concerned about paying back the imaginary hitman. After all, what was he going to do? Kill her? >> I honestly still owe her the balance which you acknowledged. >> It's my money, yeah. >> And you were under the impression that you'd be killed if you didn't pay that money in a few weeks. And but you just also said that you don't think you could come up with the money. >> I know. >> So, what did you think was going to happen? >> I'd end up dead. >> Okay, is there Did you care? >> May I have no mercy on the situation cuz I am sometimes a careless witch. >> Hooker. >> Do you have a life that you died for telling me? That is beyond a shadow of a doubt, [ __ ] Is that of my son, one life good sir? >> Hooker. >> I would do anything for him in his whole life. His whole life. I don't want him losing. I don't want the advancement. He's the only thing I'll do. That I feel like I'm right. Everybody called me a baby snatcher when I took him in my womb. Yeah. I mean, that I was like he didn't say. But I knew in my heart and I don't like being. Shh. >> [snorts] >> And then if I really tell him, people are going to talk about the false story that I was spreading. >> Really? Well, is it safe to say that if you felt it was worth the risk of dying to have >> Yes. I can't tell you but >> Well, I guess what I'm saying is >> [snorts] >> you paid $200 and you knew that the gentleman you met with was going to kill him, right? You believed he was going to kill him. >> Honey, I thought he might but it was not like we not most people don't pay to lure them out of the house and then kill them. >> Well, why would you give him $200? >> Stupid idiot. >> It's okay. But then I guess the question is this. You were hoping by giving him $200 that he would be killed, correct? Be killed. >> I knew that. With the >> [snorts] >> Understood. What I'm saying is this. >> That's the time that I got money to give to him $200 but I think that he would kill Yes. >> Okay. What I'm saying is so yes, you you thought he would kill >> Yes. >> What I'm saying is was it worth your life though if you couldn't come up with the money just to get rid of him? >> I don't think it's worth it. >> Okay. Fair enough. Fair enough. Did the guy you meet with tell you his name? What did he look like? >> [snorts] >> Tall. Black t-shirt. Skinny blue jeans. Up here. Hair slicked back. Very ominous attitude. How many times did he walk past me? >> Probably what? >> Early days of me. >> So the reason you wanted him to kill is because of the shoes, is that correct? Okay. Where does this Does he Where in Tennessee? Do you know the address? Did you tell that the address? Have you ever been to one of the sites, rentahitman.com? Why don't you tell me about that? >> I found out about it from It's supposed to be like a consultation thing at Brennan Trial and Today. >> I want to show you some emails. Okay. Um I want you to see if you can identify these, okay? So Do you recognize this from You It says "Hi, I have an issue I've needed resolved for a year now. It's cost me being ripped off for $20,000." That's you, this is your email that you sent. >> It's two pictures. >> Pictures? What is this email Is that an email you just made up or what was that email? >> It's say email and picture. >> Okay. >> [snorts] >> Um There's a >> ProtonMail. >> Pardon me? >> ProtonMail. >> Say that again, Darrel. What is that address? >> ProtonMail. >> What does that mean? ProtonMail? What does ProtonMail mean? >> Who's that on the phone? >> Coker. So, here it's uh the response I'm not sure what you're requesting. Could you fill out service request form so I can review it and then do you remember receiving that email? Okay. Then from a G. Harris and you signed it Georgina, I've been trying to send the form all morning. I just need a consultation. I have a period that's you. >> Call me. >> Okay. >> rentahitman.com was originally launched by Bob Innes in 2005, who intended to use it as the domain for an IT company dedicated to web analytics, specifically focused on helping people increase the hits on their websites. But very quickly, things took a different turn. Bob began receiving a flood of emails in 2008 requesting his help as a hitman. While some were clear jokes, others weren't. Immediately, Bob began turning over the actual hits to law enforcement agencies to deal with, in turn, helping arrest several wannabe murderers. He edited the website, boasting at the top that it's a point and click solution that's HIPAA compliant, meaning of course it's compliant with the imaginary Hitman Information Privacy Protection Act of 1964. You would think anyone who clicked the site would immediately realize that it was a joke, but uh you'd be very wrong. Bob told the Washington Post, "I really didn't think that people were going to be that stupid. Boy, did they show me." And boy, was Wendy one of those people as you're about to hear. >> When did you send this? >> Yesterday. >> Two you said three or four days ago? >> Yes, sir. >> Do you remember filling out this form? >> Yes. >> And it says, "Did you put in Miss Sherri Jean Marie Harris?" >> Yes. >> Now, this address here it says >> Made up. >> That's made up? >> Okay. >> Why were you making it up? >> I was scared. >> Were you trying to cover yourself? Make sure you weren't caught? >> Dumb [ __ ] He didn't catch me. >> Well, why [snorts] did you make it up, then? >> Just scared. >> Just scared? >> Okay. All right. And then it says, "What is the reason for contacting us?" And it says, "I have problem." Did you write that? >> Yes, I did. >> Okay. >> I told them I got eyes. >> No, you didn't. What do I appreciate that. I I told you that I'm not here to judge you. I'm not I'm not here to say you're a bad person. I'm just here to get to the bottom of the details of the story. Okay, I want a human side cuz there's always a human side, right? Your your your motivation is what? If your motivation I see that you you feel she got Okay, I'm not going to say I wouldn't feel the same way if I were you. Okay? >> In Wendy's first email, she requested help with having her ex-husband taken care of. She ended the email with this great sign-off, >> [music] >> which I will immediately be using. I prefer not going jail. Thank you for your time. As a rule, Bob Innes gives people who email him a 24-hour cooling-off period. After 24 hours, he emails to confirm whether they still want the hit. And Wendy didn't back down. Immediately, she emailed back stating she wanted him killed. In her second email, she even said, "This is kind of weird that your company is not on the deep or dark web." Yeah, weird indeed. >> So, here you have, How did you hear about rent a hitman? You were on point clicks list, you duckduckgo. >> Yeah. >> Is that how you found out about them? >> Yeah. >> How did How did you find out about the website? >> Check for nonsense. And you can click anything you want to and it will it will bring up examples. Imagines. >> And what did you click? >> I know in time. >> No, and duckduckgo, what did you search? >> I searched rent a hitman and at the time same like a open back prescription. >> Well, we all do things we regret, right? You searched rent a hitman? >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> And it's not really smart considering I wanted to be away from my soul for the rest of this life. >> Well, I I I have no idea what's going to happen with that. Okay, I'm >> [snorts] >> going to be I'm not going to lie to you in that regard. Okay, I don't even know. I'm not going to lie to you. I'm the same way you are. I'm not going to lie. If you have any questions, you can ask me, okay? So, do you remember Did you submit these photos of And is this the gentleman here standing in these pictures? Is that Do you look at this for me? Is that Is that him? >> Yes. >> And that's your ex-husband? Well, what you thought was your ex-husband? >> Yeah. >> Okay. And again, this is from And it says, "Hi, I finally got the form to go through. I don't know if you can help. I really don't know what services you provide, so I was trying to get a consultation. Thank you." Is that your email? >> Yeah. >> Okay. And then from The addresses you provided are not matching up. Please confirm your address and address before I can proceed. Do you remember receiving that? >> Hint. >> And then it says here, "My address is PO Box I didn't give it a mission because I'm not sure how this works. If you need my physical address, let me know." Do you remember sending that and providing address? Okay. And this email here, fam, does that look like the one you sent? >> Hint. >> Okay. Is that your real PO Box? >> Hint. >> Okay. So, where did you meet him? They too You said you gave him $200. >> Remember meeting him at Dixie Cafe, and that's what Well, it's supposed to be a conversation. Well, I'm sorry about that part. >> No, you do what you need to do, man. Don't worry about me. >> And um then I went to find the one to get my dog and my son on the wrist off. How He stated that I didn't get any money to do on the dog. >> And the Dixie Cafe, that's in South Rockwood, correct? Where's the Where's the 7-Eleven at? >> Exactly. >> Okay. And you gave him $200. Where'd you get that money from? >> My mom gave it to me for a trip. >> Okay. >> And I was taking it with my son. >> Between meeting him the first time at Dixie Cafe and meeting him the second time at 7-Eleven, where did you go? >> I only get with my mom to feed my daughter's cats, give them >> Where does that live? >> She lives in Newport. >> Originally, Wendy used a fake email address, a fake name, and a fake physical address. But after about 5 seconds of prodding from Bob Innis, she caved and gave him all of her real information. And not only that, but she She all of this from her real cell phone. >> When you communicated with writing hit man, what did you communicate on what kind of electronic device? >> Like this. >> Pardon me? >> Off my phone. >> Off your phone? Is that the one that's in your purse? >> Phone call was prank that call me again. >> Is that the but that's the one in your purse right now? >> Wait. >> Okay. Do you have [snorts] a Do you have a use of computer at home? >> No. >> Is this the first time you tried to have killed men? This is the first time? >> Yes. >> Tell me about using the dark web though. How did you get told was that money lost? >> I didn't use that money online. >> Did you lie? So, this is the first time? Did you do any searches on your phone on the dark web? >> What do you mean so? >> Okay. And what did you search for on the dark web? >> Same thing. >> Same thing? Okay. Did you Has the I believe the website says you lost $20,000. >> Yeah, $20,000 two weeks. >> Okay. So, was that a lie when you said that? >> Yes. >> And this is the very first time that you tried to do this via Okay. What did you start searching Sweetheart, on your phone originally on the dark web for hit men or people to kill? >> Yes, sir. >> Pardon me? >> Yes, sir. On my last year. >> And that was on the same phone that's in your purse? >> No. >> Is that a different phone? >> Yes. >> Where's that phone at? >> We confiscated it. >> Okay. And when did you start searching in this phone? >> Um, hit man and things like that. Um, sort of a long >> Pardon me? >> It's on and off today. >> I mean, did you just start doing this week when you contacted this website or did you start months ago or what? Do you want me to call your mom and tell her what's going on? >> I really need you to call my neighbor. I need to explain to me >> Okay. So, here's what's going on, okay? Um, you're under arrest, obviously. Why do you think you're under arrest? >> Soliciting somebody again. For the BM. >> Yes. To kill it, actually. That's why you're under arrest. Okay. So, you'll be going to jail tonight. You'll be arraigned sometime this weekend. We'll go from there. >> So, what exactly happens here like that? I I don't really know. >> I certainly will. Well, speak highly of for you in regards to your honesty. I appreciate that. Not a lot of people are willing to do that. They aren't willing to stand up for what they did and stand behind what they did. Okay? Do you have any any other questions about where you're going or what's happening? >> I'm just never been in trouble in this form. >> I saw that. I saw that. So, okay, I'll be right back with you, okay? Sit tight. Do you want me to call your mom? >> If I can't call at least tell me who needs calling cuz you can pick something up. >> Okay, I will call her. I'll be right back, ma'am. >> When the officer returns, Wendy seems to have come to terms with how much of a mistake she's made. And really, how stupid she was to think this website was the real deal. I mean, take a look at the career tab. >> I'm just tired. >> Do you have a religion, Wendy? >> The stupidest and zombie acting. >> Okay, what's your religion? >> Baptist. >> Baptist? Do you go to church? >> I did. >> Why don't you go to church anymore? >> Cuz when I walked in the door, I get yelled at. Like I'm not worth it. >> You made a comment the stupidest sounds on Baptist. I don't understand what that means. >> Cuz a lot of people they if you're not church going or hearing You don't go all the time, but I have a great peace so I was stupid, but I say I'm not very sane right. >> Mhm. >> And I figured that's my time with It's my time with God and all kinds of Sunday church period. Have somebody Somebody walk in here. >> Okay. Well, I want to make something clear here. I know when you say things like the stupidest sounds, I want to make it clear I'm not judging you in any way. I'm not >> You know, I have to I just >> I know what I'm saying is I'm not in a position to judge you. So, I want to make that clear. Okay, I'm here to get your side of the story. I don't want you to be self-conscious with me or anything like that. Okay? >> Just so you >> Should I go ahead and tell me where And you keep So, in your faith they died with an injury or period. And I don't go to the building to think about mental patient that you have mental issues and issues like you're acting kids shut up. >> I've I've never heard that happen. And I'm sorry. It's been a rough couple years it sounds like. And I'm sorry. >> A rough couple of years doesn't exactly excuse wanting to kill your ex-husband, but for Wendy it's worth throwing herself a pity party. Ultimately, Wendy did woman up and plead guilty to two charges, using a computer to commit a crime and solicitation of murder. She was sentenced to 7 to 20 years in prison, which she is currently serving in Michigan. Her earliest release date is July 2027. Thank you for tuning in.
