Meet 18-year-old serial killer Shellakai Sanchez, currently describing the thrill he gets from murdering innocent people because for the past 7 years Shellakai has been taking victim >> Sanchez confessed to committing three murders when he was a juvenile, telling police he needed to blow off steam. >> after victim, believing he could get away with it all. With four people now dead, officers have no idea how many others he's killed or whose life he plans to take next. >> Eventually I wanted to do was just let some steam off. I enjoyed it. It was like an adrenaline rush, like a good one. This is just like my way of coping. I don't know what's wrong. >> On August 7th, 2025, police in Albuquerque, New Mexico race to a quiet residential street where the city's acoustic gunshot detection software had picked up the sound of several gunshots. The mere existence of that system really tells you everything you need to know about Albuquerque. When officers followed the alert, they discovered 30-year-old Joseph Andrus dead from multiple gunshot wounds and left in the center of the road to die. Initially, police believed he had been shot over a car. That night Joseph had been driving for Uber and 15 minutes after he picked up his last passenger of the night, he was dead and his car was long gone. It seemed [music] like a simple, albeit stupid, case, a carjacking ending in murder. But soon police would learn the motive behind Joseph's murder wasn't a carjacking at all. [music] It was something much, much more sinister and the perpetrator was someone that they desperately needed to get off the streets because no matter what he had, cars, money, riches, it wouldn't matter. He would [music] kill again. His name was Shellakai Sanchez, an 18-year-old who ordered the Uber that night using his baby mama Anna's account. When police brought him in for questioning, they quickly learned they weren't sitting across from a teenage idiot. They were sitting across from a sociopath having the time of his life. >> Can you think of any reason why you would be here or what why you'd be at the house of McMichael? >> McMichael Lane? You mean uh >> At her house at Anna's house cuz we were there. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> Why we would be there? >> Why we, like police officers, SWAT, and everybody? >> No. >> Why you would be here at the police station? >> Mhm. >> No? Any idea? >> No. >> Okay. Uh we'll kind of get more into that and explain like why we're here and why we're talking to you. >> To Shellekai, being pulled into a police interrogation room is just a big joke, no different than sitting in detention, which he's done a lot. He nonchalantly goes over his day telling police that he spent time with his girlfriend, Anna, the night of the murder and that hours prior he had bought his very first car. It's a detail that he excitedly offers up because he isn't ashamed of the fact that he shot Joseph to get that car. He's proud of it. >> What did you guys drive? >> Um a 2020 Ford Escape. I just got it off of Facebook Marketplace like three two days ago. >> Okay. Was that the black car that was parked in the driveway? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Nice. >> It was my first time ever getting a car so I'm like I don't even know. >> Excited about it? >> Um kind of. My grandma was just worried about it because she's like it could be stolen or anything. I was like I was like grandma nothing wrong with the car. Well, I don't I don't think so. I'm just telling her not so she don't worry. She's like nothing wrong. She's like Okay, Junior. >> Yeah. With the Facebook like Marketplace >> I get it at Facebook Marketplace like whenever you go on the market and you scroll scroll and you find like uh cars they have like these surprises and then you'll see if it's in Albuquerque or not and you can text them to meet up. Yeah. >> How much did you get it for? >> Uh 1,900. There was some problems. Yeah, there was some problems with it, but I got that fixed. >> Okay. What was wrong with it? >> Um, honestly, it was a transmission problem that I recall and then it was low on fluids. >> Okay. That's not a bad deal for that much money. Did you meet up somewhere to get the car? >> Yeah. >> Where did you guys meet up at? >> Um, like Horeson Central, I know that. >> Okay. And did you Who was the guy's name that you that you bought it from? >> What was his name? >> Angel, I think it was. >> Angel? >> Yeah. >> Do you know his last name? >> Mhm. >> No? Did you >> Like I said, it was like real quick and everything. >> Yeah. Did you pay cash or >> Cash. >> No? Did that happen in an Uber ride? >> For maybe the first time in his life, Shellekai seems to be realizing that following every impulse and lying through his teeth might have consequences because that bill of sale, yeah, it doesn't exist. But if Shellekai truly believes you can buy a 2024 Escape for $1,900, it isn't a far stretch to say he also believes he can outsmart these cops and have a good time while he does it because as you'll soon see, he's claimed to have outsmarted cops in the past time and time again. The question is, who were his other victims? To get the answer, first police have to get him to admit to his latest victim, Joseph, and thankfully they have evidence to back it up. >> Uh, tell me about the Uber ride on Thursday morning. >> Uber ride Thursday morning? >> Mhm. >> No Uber ride. >> The Uber ride that you took Thursday morning. >> I didn't take an Uber ride. >> No? >> No. >> Did that happen in an Uber ride? >> Well, she left, but she came back. >> What day? >> In the Uber? Yeah, she left and came back. >> What day? >> I don't know. I don't remember an Uber at all. >> You don't remember getting an Uber? >> No. >> No. >> Never got in an Uber. I had my friends to take me everywhere. >> I'm going to tell you a little something and try to make it make sense for me, okay? >> Mhm. >> Uh So, the Uber that was ordered that's 2:52 Thursday morning. >> Mhm. >> The Uber driver's driving a black Ford Escape. >> Okay. >> Okay. Uber picks up somebody at your address. >> Mhm. >> 2905 Estrada whatever. I'm going to mispronounce that word, okay? >> Mhm. >> Uh that goes to the drop-off and the Uber driver gets shot and killed. That car, the black Ford Escape is the car you're driving now. >> Mhm. >> So, make that make sense. >> I don't know how to make sense of that. >> No. >> No. >> Go to your house for to pick up somebody the Uber driver is shot and killed and then you're driving the car. >> That's the car? I paid cash for it. What the [ __ ] >> So, I think it's time just to be honest, buddy. You never said anything about the car on Wednesday and the shooting, the Uber ride, and everything didn't happen until Thursday morning. So, you wouldn't even have had the car. >> Yeah, had the car Wednesday. and got it Wednesday. >> No. Because the victim, Joseph, the one that was shot and killed, still had his arm. So, you didn't buy the car off of Facebook. I think now is the time just to soften start off clean and tell us what really happened. Cuz we know that Anna ordered the Uber ride. You know that it was for you. You told her to order the Uber ride. The Uber picked up somebody at the address in front of your house where you're staying. Drives down, stops where it was supposed to stop. The driver gets shot and is killed. And that that the car is northbound towards and you're still driving the car. >> For several minutes, police simply stare at Shelikai, waiting for him to break. Not because he's scared of what he's about to face, but because he can't wait to tell police everything. Smiling, laughing, and gloating his way through his story of shooting and killing an innocent man. >> Did you ask Anna to request an Uber? >> Yes. >> Who was at the address that you were at? >> Nobody. I don't know. I just I wasn't myself, I guess. I don't know. Um I seen the car. I seen how easy it looked. I mean, I I just wanted to I don't know. I wanted Got it. I don't know. Yeah, like satisfied. I don't know. She's like so much stress and so much [ __ ] And it's like I can't take it out on certain people, so it's like I just take it out on anybody else I can see or buying. I don't know. I mean, I I I've been going to therapy. It's just that I didn't go Thursday and she canceled on Yeah, I don't know what happened. I told my grandma I I didn't even tell my grandma like anything about what I'm just like keeping making it seem like it's all cool. And >> [clears throat] >> I don't know. This just isn't easy to me. Like literally uh It just seemed so easy. I mean, he wasn't even looking at me. He was just facing forward. I I needed a car. I needed a place to go somewhere. I needed to get somewhere, and she did, too. So, I I did it. >> What was the plan then? What did you plan to do with his body? >> Before he pulls up, I cocked my gun and made sure it's loaded before I head in there cuz then if he ends up trying to pull something, then I'll have the first shot off. But he was taking way too slow. He wouldn't get out of the seat, and I told him multiple times I'm like, "Get out. Get out. Get out." He just did not want to move. And once he ends actually ends up moving, and once you go get out, I just I just hit him I I think like five times. I don't even know if I hit him. >> Was he in the car when you shot him? >> Yeah. >> He was He was like getting out. >> And then you when you got out of the car? >> Hm? >> When you got out of the car, did you shoot him again? >> Yeah. >> It was easy. I don't know >> There was a There was an impact to the ground. Did you see shooting while he was laying on the ground? >> I feel bad that that guy was really cool, but >> Yeah. >> And then it still was just easy. It was actually really cool. We had a We had a grind everything. >> What did you guys talk about? >> Man, Jesse was like, "How's your day going?" Right when I was saying, "How's your day going?" Like, right then and there I was like >> car. >> I was like like It just happened so quick and fast. I mean, I guess that that's how he felt, but I don't feel no type of way. I usually get anxiety and everything, but >> All right. This happened a little bit different. >> But I enjoyed it. There There was like an adrenaline rush, like a good one, like >> Joseph did absolutely everything right. He was [music] calm, collected, non-threatening. He was willing to hand over his car when Shelika demanded it, and yet Shelika still shot him five times at close range, because it wasn't about getting the car for [music] Shelika. It was all about how good murder made him feel. >> I'm just confused, like Did you get the viewer to take the car or was it to shoot? >> To shoot him. Because I cancelled your therapy appointment. >> Like you wanted to. >> I ran out of meds. I mean, I haven't been taking my meds I was supposed to. And actually my baby mama even told me that you're acting different, like you're getting angry, you know, you're getting frustrated, you're I I guess I was just acting weird and different. I don't know what it was. >> So, what uh uh Like on the Uber, did one just get randomly sent to you, or did you get to like pick through? >> Oh, I got to pick. >> Oh, you got to pick? >> Yeah. >> Okay. What made you pick him? >> I don't know what it was. He seemed He seemed like a good guy. >> No? >> I don't know. I mean, I don't really go for good people, but I mean I think he was And then just like That's I I do feel bad for him a little bit, but I don't. >> And then did >> I [clears throat] wish I would have picked this other guy. This guy had like a bigger like he was like buff. But, he was too skinny. >> Why Uber? Why Why did you choose Uber to find the victim? >> It's easy. I mean You You have somebody else get the Uber off their name and off their thing. What I should have done was like do like a street [clears throat] over or some [ __ ] and then you just meet them there at that spot where it was, and then have them go do that. And off of someone different uh someone else's name, just tell them their name that the person is using it off of. You pick You pick who you want to either do or whatever you want to do. I don't know. Um you pick who you want to kill, and basically you just wait until you get to the spot. And once you have that good conversation going where they like "You have a nice night." and then bam. You get or going to all your [ __ ] Get the [ __ ] out right here right now. You know that? You're a victim. You pick who you want to do and And then I needed a ride, so I was like, I might as well keep the car. >> Were you like planning this or did it just happen that way? >> Oh, no. I just like I thought of it like right then and there. I was like, I have a gun. I have some bullets. I was like, I was like, "Hey, can you get me an Uber?" I was like, "I'm going to go I'm going to go see my friend and then we're going to go pick up a car. We're going to go get a car." And she's like, "What car?" You know, that that up I didn't tell her exactly what I was doing, but I was like, "Oh, my homie owes me a favor and he's going to let me use his car." So then I just got the Uber and then well, I was I was going to go get a car and a body with it. I was like, cuz I like what intentionally I wanted to do was just let him to be mom. But I was like, I need a car. And I was like, I don't feel like walking back. I was like, I might as well take it. I was like, Basically, yeah. I wish I would have been more smarter with it, but you can only get so far. >> Shelakai is more concerned about bragging about his crime than he was covering it up and that continues not just with this crime, [music] but ones he's committed in the past because as you're about to see, this wasn't Shelakai's first rodeo. >> This is the first time you have shot somebody? >> No. >> No? Who was? Well, >> This is just like my way of coping. I don't I don't know what's wrong. >> Who was the first time you shot somebody? >> In middle school. >> In middle school? What do you think the first time that you killed somebody was? >> In middle school. >> Mhm. Do you remember doing that? How many people do you think you killed? >> I'm not a serial killer, you know. But, um three that I know of. >> Three that you know of? >> Including this guy or >> Oh, that'll be four. >> Okay. >> [clears throat] >> Who uh When was the first Like I know it was in middle school. >> Middle school, but it was more of an altercation like I was getting into a fight, but I didn't want to fight. Like I didn't want to I guess like I didn't I didn't like how people could always step on me cuz how little I was. So, whenever I got my first gun in middle school then I got into an altercation. It was like midnight night. And back then I I guess it was really better. I don't know because it was just >> Mhm. >> But, it was just over an altercation. He was just with me and I got tired of it. >> Yeah. >> Did you go to school with him? >> Yeah. >> What school? >> Truman. >> Truman? What was his name? >> I don't recall. He wasn't really popular either. He was just like one of those kids that used to always think they're all big and bad and just I don't know. >> Where did you shoot the first guy? >> By the Rio Grande. >> So, the actual river or the street? >> The river river river. Whenever it wasn't dried up, I shot it in his mouth. >> So, he was like that far? >> Did they ever find him? >> I don't think so. I mean, I haven't got out there for him. >> No, I mean I I know that didn't like I didn't know about you. It's like the person involved, but then they got you. >> Yeah, um >> Shelakai has claimed that the first murder he committed took place sometime between 2019 and 2021, and that his victim was a fellow classmate at Truman Middle School. However, we did a deep dive and were unable to find any records of students from that school in those years dying as a result of homicide. However, the next murder he brags about has some eerie coincidences with an unsolved homicide in the area. And if Shelakai truly committed it, we're not looking at a teen here. We're looking at a serial killer. >> Who was the second, do you remember? >> It was out in the Mesa, [clears throat] and it was just because I was with some friends. >> Who were the friends that you were with? >> They were They were just older than me. They were way older than me. I I had a gun, and then they didn't like this person. They told me, "One of us, and you're going to go and shoot that right here, right now." I shot him. All right. And then I said, "But I had thought it's it's so much easier pulling a trigger than it is to be good." And [clears throat] yeah, I mean, it is. 10 times easier. >> But how old do you think he was then? >> They were way older than me. I was like high school starting freshman, second one. They were like 24 or 25. I was like barely like 15, 16. >> And did that guy die? Did you shoot him? >> Yeah. >> Yeah. How do you know, like did you see it on the news or >> I watched. >> What were you watching then? And what Mesa was that one? >> Mesa? >> You said it was in the Mesa. >> So mesa? >> Yeah. Yeah. >> So, which mesa? Cuz there's like a lot of >> Yeah, you're right. Um the one by the casino. You go down frontage frontage road. Go down frontage road and you'll come up on the casino but if you're going down down casino bridge go under bridge into the mesa. >> Okay. Kind of like where you go shooting? >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> The alleged second murder that Shellokai took part in would have occurred sometime between 2020 and 2023 if everything he's claiming is accurate. And there is a murder that shockingly coincides with all the details he's given. He claimed that he shot a man near the casino and bridge off of frontage road. The only casino near frontage road is Route 66 Casino which just so happens to be near the Rio Puerco Bridge and next to a mesa where people frequently go shooting. In 2022, 32-year-old Jesus Alberto Lugo Val was discovered deceased on the Rio Puerco [music] Mesa in the exact area Shellokai has described. Now, that could be a coincidence and everything we're discussing is alleged and we're totally not wording it that way because our legal team is looking over our shoulder. >> And then uh what about the third? >> [snorts] >> There's a lot of lot of cars and bad habits I guess. I don't know. The third was just a drive-by. I didn't even like I didn't even know till my my homie told me. But there was multiple people shooting out the window so I don't even know if I was the one who hit him. >> And then uh when was that? >> About a year ago. >> Month? >> So, whenever Whenever I got in a fight with my son's life. >> Uh do you remember the time? >> Mhm. Mhm. Such And I was drinking doing a lot of drugs that night. So, >> Wait. >> They got a clean up though. Yeah. >> Yeah. >> Who's the homeboy that told you? Mhm? >> Who's the homeboy that told you you did that? >> He's an old head. Some old head called Ray. I don't >> What? And then this is the one that made number four come. >> Yeah. But I mean like Yeah, I mean getting bullied for so long you end up being the bully. I mean it's really >> You. >> But I mean I guess I don't know. It's really weird. I mean I just I just picked him. I could have picked someone different. I really could have if I wanted to, but he was just the first one that I chose up. Like do you know how you like pull out the Uber and they send you an Uber straight away? You can request for a new driver because the driver doesn't like he looks creepy or he looks, you know what I mean? Like you don't trust that driver, so you're like, "Okay, I'm going to get a different one." And this is my first time I've ever doing it in an Uber, so >> Yeah. >> Yeah. Usually I'm just out and about, but not in a car or anything. I mean except for drive-bys, but that's just different. That's I don't like that. I don't like shooting at something I can't see. >> So no feelings doing it? >> Oh, yeah. There's like you're just blasting out the window. I don't even know what you're going to feel. I mean like I remember my first one. Oh, that that that made me sleep every night. I just hopped out the car for a second. I didn't really watch him. That's why I was saying I felt bad for him a little bit, but just getting that satisfaction out out the way. It's like a good relief. So, they're taking him in and I'm letting him in. Okay, you're okay. You probably did something wrong. >> Who knows? >> [snorts] >> But, I don't know. That was kind of dumb, too. It's like I'm going to open >> Why did you take the car? >> Why did I keep it? Oh, I need the transportation. It was kind of dumb. Now, I mean, I don't know why, but that I needed transportation. I needed somewhere to get like somewhere some something to get to somewhere, you know what I mean? Uh like a plan A to A to Z. I don't I don't like A to B. I like A to Z. >> Cuz it's an end point? >> Yeah. Yeah, you have your final destination at Z, you know what I mean? I don't want a car that's going to take me A to B. I want a A to Z, you know? >> Uh what gun did you use to shoot him? >> What do you mean which one? >> No, like what what gun did you use to shoot him? The this one uh that we're talking about. >> [snorts] >> Oh. Oh. >> Yeah. I used a a 40. >> A 40? >> Hi-Point JCP. >> Okay. Where is that gun at? >> I thought you guys had it. No? >> I can hear him talking to you or in Anna. >> Mhm. >> Where did you put it? >> It's It's in the middle console. >> Oh. >> Just pick it up and you'll find it right there. >> In the car? >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> Yeah, I know. I shot him with my gun. >> Oh, it's yours? >> Yeah. Oh, it's not mine, but you know. >> Where did you get >> Uh tied it for a while now. >> Did you buy it online? >> Oh, I buy it up the street. It was 50 bucks. $50 just for a gun and then what? $23 if you have someone 21 or over to get get you bullets? Easy. Simple as that. 50 pack, too. That's like what? Like 10 people you can kill like with 50 bullets? That's easy. >> Behind the officers, Shelekai catches sight of several people gathering. For him, it's an ego boost. More people coming in to handle the loose cannon in the interrogation room. But, in reality, they're lab technicians gathering to collect his DNA. Lab technicians who truthfully would rather be anywhere else. That doesn't stop him from reveling [music] in the attention, though. >> The juvenile middle school got those boys ready out there for me? >> For what? >> Those masks. >> Oh. >> I was like, I just seen them. I was like, "Oh, look at them." >> Uh No. >> Where is he? >> Oh, right here. >> Yeah. >> Uh Um >> [clears throat] >> No. >> What's that? >> That's a We're we're going to have to do a DNA warrant. >> Huh? >> A DNA warrant. Uh we're going to get your DNA and your beard hair. >> So, let me see. We take pictures of you, rub a Q-tip in your mouth, and take your fingerprints. >> Ah. >> Okay. >> Quick and easy. >> Okay. >> So, they're getting all this. Here. >> Are there fingerprints for what? >> Because uh she was in the car. >> Huh? >> She was in the car. >> In the car? >> Yeah, she's been in the car. >> [clears throat] >> And she didn't know anything. And she was >> in the car. She ordered the Uber. >> Yeah, she ordered the Uber because I told her to. I made her. >> Yeah, but >> I made her. I put a gun to her. >> Here's the thing is we we we didn't know any of that, right? So, we do an investigation and we >> Oh, okay. Okay. Okay. >> We'll get her DNA and her fingerprints. >> All right. >> That doesn't mean that she's going to get arrested. >> Yeah. Of course, yeah. It's your first offense. >> Yeah, so we're we're going through it. She admitted to driving my car. Yeah. >> Yeah, she was driving it. All right. Huh? >> She admitted to driving the Escape. >> Oh, the car. I was like the Escape. I was like what There's like an escape route. >> [laughter] >> I was like there was no escape route. >> The [snorts] Ford Escape? >> Yeah. Yeah. >> Um >> So, that's why. >> And then we'll have We'll have the detectives come in here and do the same for you. >> Okay. >> What's the passcode to your phone? >> Passcode to my phone? >> Mhm. >> We're going to do a search warrant for it. >> Yeah, I kind of thought so. >> Mhm. >> [clears throat] >> You guys are going to get through it anyways, right? Or you just make it easier. >> We'll make it easier. >> That 030122, I got you. >> Thank you. >> Appreciate it. >> No problem. Might as well. I'm ready. Here it comes. >> [laughter] >> Nothing else to hide at all. Oh my gosh. >> Did you not think that we were going to figure it out? >> Sooner or later. I actually didn't think it was going to be so soon. >> What were you planning on like how long were you planning on keeping the car? >> I literally was about to ditch it today. >> What was the plan? >> I was going to leave it out in the Mesa. I'd wipe it down with some Lysol. Lysol, some wipes, everything. Everything I need just to wipe the hell down in it. >> No. >> And then I was going to put a cloth in >> [snorts] >> like a long cloth or like a towel and then shove it down the pipe. They're gassing and then just light it. >> [snorts] >> No. >> That's easy. But not You ever do that? Or just ditch it somewhere. >> Then [clears throat] fully thought about it. >> You were that I was planning on ditching it today. I've always had these thoughts but it's just like it's always been like um often on. Or like when I feel that type of way I have to deal with it. And I get it done and over with. >> Will the feeling go away? Will like when you forget this feeling does it go away or do you have to >> I have to at least like do something like like smack somebody or like like beat them up or something. Oh yeah, me and my brother oh I love to get him all drunk, my older brother. He's like 22. I love to get him all drunk and then just beat him cuz like he he always starts [ __ ] with me and like whenever he's drunk he used he used to always at me and there's one time I I got him all drunk out that I'm going to beat and see how you like it. I I beat him up but then that's the closest I'll ever get with family. It's like uh I'll just I'll just beat him up but the one person I'll never hit is my [snorts] grandma cuz she'll beat me and probably do worse. >> Yeah. >> That's one thing I I don't hit women. I don't have any intentions on hurting any women. This is me not on my meds at all. >> And you stop. >> I don't know. I don't know what I am, you know? >> Which version do you like better? >> Um um Hm, that's a good question. Interacting with people, interacting with them like at least being able to like interact with people, I'd rather be on my meds. But, if I don't want to talk to anybody, if I don't really like anybody, and I'd rather be antisocial than social, then I'd rather not be on my meds and be how I am. But, I'd rather be Sometimes I like like my meds, but sometimes I just don't. And it's like whenever I get mad and angry, it's like Sometimes my meds don't even help, but it's like they really do. I don't know what it is. It's just like I'm often on my meds like sometimes, so it's like I have to find like they prescribe new ones, and then get rid of the old ones, and prescribe new ones, or up the dose, and lower the dose. So, I'm like still still trying to find the perfect ones. The ones that will help, I guess. >> Is there anything that you can do to let us know about like what happened? >> What do you mean, Thursday morning? >> Is there anything that we didn't go over >> Nothing. Um I told Anna, and At first she didn't actually want to get me the Uber, so I threatened her. She got me the Uber, did it, came back, picked her up, didn't tell her anything what happened, and after that, this been my life. I mean, I thought I was going to get away with it, but I didn't. God darn it, you darn kids got me again. >> As of the production of this video, Shellakiah is awaiting trial for the murder of Joseph Andrus, and we can only assume the police are looking into the other claims he's made. Our thoughts are with Joseph's loved ones and the other victims who have yet to get the justice they deserve. >> Thank you for tuning in. Besides subscribing to help us make more videos exactly like this one, you can also listen to all of our crime podcasts over on Spotify. >> [music] >> And before you go, check out one of the craziest cases I've ever covered right here, or one of my newest uploads right here.
