He chose to ignore commands and sped off into the afternoon sun instead. >> And I'll go up this side so we can Is this car off? It's uh >> I got you, driver. With your hands up, step out of the car. Was the handler's decision that egregious or was it just a chaotic moment? Tell us your thoughts in the comments. On February 1st, 2025, police spotted a carjacked vehicle hanging out in a business parking lot on Oxon Hill Road. An adult woman decided to hop in and take it for a spin. She clearly didn't realize that three different police departments were already acting as her uninvited chaperones. Keep your hands up. Keep your hands up. >> He's going taking off from the parking lot. >> You're blocking traffic on a hill. Correct. >> [screaming] >> to go ahead and take it. She was struck by a passing vehicle and unfortunately didn't make it. Officers were left to manage a massive traffic jam while processing the tragic scene. It was a high-speed gamble that resulted in the ultimate loss of life on the asphalt. May 10th, 2025 saw a Washington state patrol trooper trying to pull over a speeding car with no license plates near the ship canal bridge just after midnight. The driver apparently thought his sedan was a professional race car and immediately triggered a threecar disaster. He eventually came to a grinding halt against the bridge barrier. >> 453 Seattle attempting to stop the vehicle. He's in and out of traffic. He sadly passed away from the fall to the street below. Meanwhile, his passenger was taken into custody with a front row seat to the tragedy. Emergency responders found the jumper unresponsive and confirmed he had gone on to the next life. March 21st, 2025 featured a Genesis sedan trying to outrun a traffic stop on Martin Luther King Jr. Highway. The driver was spotted earlier that evening in a stolen vehicle and decided that stopping for the Seat Pleasant Police was strictly optional. A baby was miraculously found trapped inside the wreckage while the driver unfortunately didn't make it. Rescue crews worked feverishly to save the innocent child from the chaos. It is a heartbreaking reminder of the cost of such reckless decisions on a Friday night. On April 9th, 2024, a Dodge Durango linked to a violent assault was spotted leaving a gas station on Forest Parkway. The driver realized the law was on his tail and decided that driving 90 mph on the wrong side of the road was his best escape plan. He nearly took out a yellow Chevrolet before losing a fight with a utility pole. Heat. Heat. radio. We got a GST unit out with us currently. Northbound just crossed over 285. He passed away from a self-inflicted wound before officers could even get him into handcuffs. Investigators were left to document the grim scene near Jonesboro Road. The community was left with one less violent suspect, but a very messy ending to a dangerous afternoon. The morning of February 6th, 2023 became a race against fate when an Arkansas state trooper spotted a motorcycle rider looking for trouble. The biker thought he could outmaneuver the authorities. Instead, he was just counting down the seconds until a very permanent stop at a high rate of speed. well. Whe All right, wheel. Protecting 49. 49. Push. Push. I read that. I read that. I wrecked that. The rider's journey ended abruptly against a solid pole. He was rushed to the hospital in critical condition, but it is highly unlikely he made it through the night. His bike was left as a pile of scrap metal on the side of the road. It was a fast ride that led to an even faster goodbye for this reckless rider. October 13th, 2022 went from a routine patrol to a high-speed chase when a license plate reader flagged a stolen red Honda Accord in Augusta. Kenneth Paige was behind the wheel and decided a residential neighborhood was the perfect place to test his car's limits. He darted into oncoming traffic to show the police he meant business. There you go. Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. Ohio. Oh, oil. >> [screaming] >> The chase ended in a fiery wreck after the Honda couldn't quite handle a sharp turn into a church parking lot. Kenneth Paige unfortunately passed away despite the desperate life-saving efforts of the officers on the scene. Investigators later linked him to an armed robbery from just days prior. It was a dark end for a man who was already on a collision course with the law. September 4th, 2023 was a cloudy afternoon in Independence County that took a turn for the worse at the intersection of Highway 167 and Feifer Road. Michael Owens pulled his motorcycle right into the path of an oncoming state police cruiser. The trooper was already running with lights and sirens while responding to another call. Trying to catch a gray passenger car at a high rate of speed. Heat up here. Negative area. >> Yeah. Even though Corporal Brandon Truan tried his best to swerve off the road, the collision was unavoidable. Michael Owens sadly didn't make it after the impact, the corporal was treated at the hospital and released the following day. It was a tragic accident where a simple turn became a final destination for the Batesville man. On August 10th in 2024, a trooper spotted a stolen black Dodge Charger with a swapped identification number near Victoria. Devandre James was the man in the driver's seat. He decided to turn the highway into a personal runway by hitting speeds of 160 mph. >> 106. [music] John 1037. >> 1037. Speed's 130. 35. Where yall at? 120 is just south of the uh train. Good boy. I'm going to check this car out. I'm going to see if he's in there. Car's on fire. >> Get hit. That's you. Hi. >> The high-speed flight ended in a cloud of smoke and fire after the Charger hit a utility pole and flipped into a residential yard. Devandre James was airlifted to a medical center in critical condition and likely didn't survive his injuries. His stolen prize was reduced to a charred husk. It was a textbook case of having too much speed and nowhere left to go. March 29th, 2025, near 11 p.m. involved a car flying down Interstate 40 with its headlights off like it was playing a dangerous game of hideand seek. John Bruce Martinez was the teenager behind the wheel who thought 130 mph was a reasonable cruising speed. He eventually took an exit that led straight into the woods. >> Blacked out 13's ahead of me. Just passed the 144. Speed's over 100. Catching up right now. 13th primary coming up on the 142. Speed's about 127 head One more big rot. Hey, somebody grab a fire extinguisher. Put that out. I didn't see anybody bail out of this car, but they went down this embankment. Let's move up and clear it together. >> There's three people in the car. >> Three people. >> All right. >> The vehicle eventually met its match against several trees off the highway. John Bruce Martinez unfortunately didn't make it. His three teenage passengers were much luckier and survived with injuries that weren't life-threatening. It was a heavy price to pay for a late night joy ride that went horribly wrong for the Mabel Veil resident. April 10th, 2020 started with Justin Battenfield running a red light in his brand new Dodge Ram pickup. For reasons he took to his grave, the man refused to pull over for a Forest Service officer. The chase quickly escalated into a highstakes duel [music] as he swerved toward oncoming traffic. Check this morning. See if they were able to believe your training. Doesn't have to. thing. A simple traffic violation resulted in a family losing a loved one who just loved to drive. On November 29th, 2016, a shoplifting report at a Walmart led police to a stolen blue Volkswagen Beetle. Shane Warren was the 20-year-old at the wheel who decided that a 130 mph chase was the best way to handle a petty crime. He eventually lost control while trying to exit the loop. 2244 1099 pursuit. Yep. 1033 traffic to Walmart 425. 44 confirming 343. Heavy snip. The pursuit ended when the beetle flipped multiple times and ejected its driver onto the access road. Victor Allen Smith was found to be under the influence and was promptly hauled off to jail. He now faces the consequences of his deadly decisions. A $3,200 stack of cash was found on him, but it couldn't buy him a way out of this disaster. The day started with a driver thinking they could outrun the law over the Arkansas River Bridge. The suspect, a man known as Ball, decided to push his vehicle to the limit. He clearly didn't factor in the heavy traffic signs waiting at the end of the road. oil. We're having 44 31. His passenger survived being ejected into a grassy median and was lucky to walk away. The survivor was left to explain to officers that he had just been picked up for a ride that ended in tragedy. It was a brutal lesson on the importance of seat belts. On June 4th, 2025, around 2 in the morning, a Maryland Transportation Authority officer spotted an Infinity sedan speeding north on I 95. The driver decided that pullover commands were merely suggestions. He immediately floored it toward a very messy conclusion near a rail station. 16. Dispatch, copy traffic. The road was eventually taped off as a crime scene while the survivors were taken for medical treatment. May 12th, 2023 turned into a high-speed hunt when a trooper tried to stop a stolen Ford F-150 in Ionia County. The 31-year-old driver from Sheridan decided that an embankment and several trees were his preferred stopping method. He pushed the truck to its breaking point before it finally gave out. >> Truck speeds about 97. Very little traffic. >> 423. Clear. >> What are your speeds? >> 93. Clear over spikes. You the only one in the vehicle. >> Yeah. >> Why you running? >> I got so many warrants. >> So Central 36. >> The driver was tossed from the truck and suffered serious injuries that likely meant he didn't make it. He was airlifted to a hospital by an emergency medical team. The trooper managed to escape the ordeal without a scratch. Investigators were left to piece together the remains of the stolen pickup. It was a violent end to a chase that crossed county lines. That brings an end to this particular chapter of reckless choices and flashing blue lights.
