I need to catch my breath. >> Thank you. >> You didn't see him, did you? >> I didn't see him. No, >> I didn't see nothing, but you were in pretty much in front of me. >> That was ridiculous. >> Yeah, >> he pushed the car into me almost. >> Is that baby okay? >> Was that in the car? >> Oh my god. Go ahead and clear it. >> Baby mama to come get >> I haven't talked to him. >> Yeah. >> What's going on? >> Car chase. Everything's all right. >> It's my niece. My niece. She was coming from work. >> Go ahead. >> Are you needing him to be checked out by anybody >> in the woods? >> My baby. >> Get my baby. What happened? We're about to fight He ran from me. Okay. >> Okay. But I'm trying to see what's what's what happened. What's wrong? >> All we need you to worry about right now is your back. >> That fence jump right behind you. >> I didn't see you jump it, but I was like, I cleared that thing. radio. >> Nothing like that. >> If you want, we went straight that way. >> I say I can walk you through it if you're going to be if you want. >> It's It's like if you did you see him? >> He's got guns and stuff in here and he was coming out of one of the parks where they often sell drugs. >> We were hauling [ __ ] feet behind him. Ski was arrested after the pursuit and authorities reportedly discovered a firearm and marijuana with a one-year-old child also found in the vehicle. Reported charges included felony fleeing or eluding, aggravated child neglect, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, marijuana possession, and resisting arrest along with an alleged probation violation. Tuesday, December 19th, 2023, Florida Highway Patrol troopers pursued a blue Cadillac suspected of being connected to a grand theft case. The driver identified as Jur Mariah Riley allegedly refused to stop, prompting officers to follow the vehicle. 49 approaching. Hey for Christmas. [music] Pull over. It's not worth it. Okay. Get out of the car. Get out of the car. >> Get out of the car. Get on the ground. Get on the ground. >> One more back. One more back. Well, we got to pull out now. We're bringing the drivers in here. Two passengers get secure right now. >> All right, I'm going to help you up. You ready? All right. Everybody less than 108 shut down right now. >> Do you have anything in your pockets? Any weapons? Any narcotics? Anything in your pockets at all? >> I think it's something in this part of >> this one right here. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> Okay. You got a fe? >> I don't know yet, but that's why I was going to let her know if there's something on you that you need us to know about, tell us now because if he gets to the jail, it's going to be another charge. >> I don't think >> Riley was arrested along with two other occupants. Riley reportedly faced charges of fleeing or eluding and reckless driving, while the other occupants were arrested on separate charges related to the grand theft investigation. September 30th, 2022, a stolen sport utility vehicle led officers on a pursuit through East Los Angeles and the San Gabriel Valley. The driver continued fleeing as law enforcement tried to bring the vehicle to a stop, eventually leaving the vehicle with damaged tires. >> It's a pursuit underway. From what we understand, this is uh due to a stolen vehicle. And if we are zooming in here and um producers help me on where we are right now, but we are pushing in on this uh SUV there. You see it's a gold colored SUV. This is in Temple City trying to get word on what freeway this is. But uh you see the uh it started as a pursuit with the sheriff's department and then uh I think I'm trying to figure out if that is still the sheriff's department or hasn't moved over to uh the CHP. But the good news is it's a highway patrol. Okay. So the highway patrol has taken over this pursuit. U but it started with the sheriff's department. They are now going into Monterey Park. The speeds aren't um too fast right now as you could see as they are far over into the carpool lane and the SUV is just kind of trucking along. There's there isn't a whole lot of traffic as you can see and we don't know a whole lot about the theft or who is inside, but that is the case here when it comes to this being a stolen vehicle. Tinted windows, so it's tough to see how many people are inside this vehicle. It is sizable. Uh there's a push in from Air7 and you could see tented in the back too. Uh we're in Lincoln Heights right now as this vehicle kind of meanders through the streets with flat tires for sure on the driver's side. Yeah, the left side the the passenger side does look a bit flat >> up front or at least really low. >> Sure. I can't I can't uh I I I can't really make out if it's just because the vantage point that we're at they the back tire obviously is not but you know when the car is going that slowly it it makes it all all the tires look like they're um a little wonky but we Yeah, it looks like it is flat. Yeah, absolutely. When you see Okay, watch for a pit maneuver here. This could be an ideal spot. Uh he's not going too fast. They're certainly set up for it. Looks like they might do it. Yeah, they're tush. Okay, a pit maneuver. Not super aggressive there, but they did turn it a little bit. Uh, it didn't work. Now he is, you can see the back tires kind of spinning out there. He's trying to get away. He's in the oncoming lanes. Keep that in mind. So, oncoming traffic. Uh, now he's moved over. They may try this again because he's not really moving very fast. Now, uh, with two flat tires, it's debatable at how much maneuvering he can speed limit, which is a good thing. Uh, so other people in the in the neighborhood aren't in danger. Now, smoking on that passenger side tire. So, that's confirmation. That tire definitely is flat along with driver side tire. So, now it's scraping, starting to smoke, and we're going to see the rubber start coming off that thing pretty soon. So, his situation is getting worse when it comes to his ability to get away and maneuver. Not sure what's going on in the driver's mind here. I'm sure trying to figure out what to do, but clearly they're not going to get away at this point. They just can't move fast enough any longer. So, the CHP is there right behind them. This started with the sheriff's department as a a stolen vehicle and then they transferred it over when it was on the freeway, but now off to Surface Streets now in East Los Angeles. He just turned off of Medford Street. I don't know if that's still Medford. southbound eastern and it looks like he's taking a left. I don't know if this is an entry ramp or just a bridge getting back on the freeway as that passenger side uh tire just completely disintegrates. There it goes. Now he's on the rim. I don't know what the driver's side tire looks like, but there's no way he's going to be able to maneuver that thing on on steel [snorts] and on the asphalt. Colleen, and I imagine though that the driver's side tire, even though we haven't seen that come off, >> I hate to use the word afraid, but what a sense of alertness. >> Yeah, absolutely. But again, you can't really see inside this vehicle at all. You can't even I can't even see really in the dash >> uh the windshield as well. You It's really hard to make out any activity inside this vehicle. You know, sometimes you really see erratic uh hand gestures or them talking on the phone or what have you, but this you can't. David, can you make anything out in the front of this? I haven't been able to. >> No, I can't see anything. And clearly they're they're they're holding off and doing a pit maneuver. They're not going to do a pit maneuver. But Bruce, what about perhaps hitting it with another spike to get the back tires? Is that a possibility? And does that help the situation? >> Yeah, very much so. Because now you'll have deflated the rear two. And so of essence, you're riding on rims, which means the vehicle may not have the traction that it needs. So we may see a second deployment of a spike strip provided that he or she drives along the same type of streets often enough where they can uh put that out. >> Yeah, there's a good the tread is barely hanging on on the driver's side and most of it is gone. So yeah, this this is a mess. It would be interesting to see them try a spike um and just to get this to come to a conclusion as those back tires are doing all the work and if they lose those then clearly yeah there's there's not a whole lot left. >> Yeah, the veh the vehicle is just it's a larger heavier vehicle and so that may be working for the suspect as the vehicle has the torque and the engine to uh drive those rims. Look at people outside of their houses again. They obviously clearly they are monitoring the pursuit. All right, you're you're uh watching our live streaming newscast at 6:30 right now. This is an end of a pursuit. This is happening in Monterey Park. You can see the driver was driving um kind of in circles in this area on a Bajo in Monterey Park. And now police, they they really kind of cornered this person because they must not know this area very well because they went into a culde-sac. their front rims are they are on rims basically in the front uh tires because they hit a spike strip earlier and they just hit another spike strip. Now you can see what is this driver going to do? Are they going to get out of the car? Are they going to keep police trying ports of a stolen vehicle? So what is going on now? We can see that uh they are radioing obviously what's that he pulled out. Do you see that Bruce? We pulled out something that looked like a long stick right there. Ooh. >> What we thought may >> Oh, he's breaking the windows, Bruce. >> ASP. He's got an ASP. They're going to break the windows out. >> Yeah, they just did. >> Yeah, that's an ASP, which is like a baton. It's an expandable baton. >> Yeah, I've never actually seen that. I know that's like sounds crazy, but I've never I've never seen um them pull out something like Uh oh. What's that? Oh, he's trying to go. Bruce, his there's lots of there's so much smoke coming from his tires right now. >> He's not going anywhere. >> Y this this guy does not want to give up. Um I hate to say it's going to end uh poorly, but uh at this point there's obviously a lot of irrational >> I've never seen driver. >> I've never seen a a driver do this before where they just >> Yeah, it's a rear wheel drive vehicle. He's trying to gun it. He's not going to get past CHP, which has pinned him. And they may put another car behind him so he doesn't reverse. He might be trying to do that. Also, >> I I would say he's got to be trying to do something. Put it He's obviously It's It's not working going forward. Um I would say that it looks like they're possibly Well, I don't know. It almost looks like they're above where they're just a little bit um lopsided. The pursuit ended in a culde-sac in Monterey Park where officers removed the driver and took them into custody at around 6:50 in the evening. The supplied information does not identify if the driver or confirm specific charges, so any additional allegations would need to be checked against official records. Do you have your license on you? >> No, I don't. >> Okay. Do you have any paperwork for the car or anything like that? >> Yes. >> Okay, show me the paperwork. >> Can you follow me? >> No, I'm not following you nowhere. >> Why? >> Listen, get the paperwork for the car or no? >> Yes, I do have some. I have the rest at the house. >> Okay. Where are you going? Oh, >> from where? It's from Publix. >> From where? Publix. >> Yes. >> Okay. >> I'm not doing anything. >> Okay. Just hop on out, buddy. Step out of the car. >> I cannot. >> Hey, don't fight with me. You all right? >> Yeah, I got bit a little bit. >> Yeah, I got stung a little bit, too. Sorry. >> I don't know how they jumped on us. I'm the one. >> The driver was eventually removed from the vehicle and handcuffed after officers used a taser during the struggle.
