Everything was fine. We went for a ride. Stupid, stupid. >> I'm being honest with you, Mary. There's parts of your truck laying beside you. >> What? What? I didn't do it. I didn't DO IT. I DIDN'T DO IT. I DIDN'T DO IT. >> This is killer wife, Mary Jane Terry. Just moments ago, she was found drunk nearly four times over the legal limit, screaming over her husband's body. >> He was there. He was there. >> Ma'am, did you run him over, ma'am? >> Completely unaware that she's the one who ran him over. >> I didn't do it, dear. I don't know what happened. >> As this tiny Wisconsin town with less than 500 people sees its first homicide in nearly two decades, leaving this community in utter shock. >> Do you love him? >> Honey, he is the love of my life. He is the love of my life. >> It was a dark and stormy night, seriously, when police in Leona, Wisconsin received a 911 call begging them to hurry to a dramatic scene. >> Forest County 911. >> Yeah, there's a person that's hit outside my house. >> Do you have any idea who it might be, sir? >> Um, Donnie >> Uh, Donnie >> Britton. Britton. >> Donnie Britton. He's hurt pretty bad. >> He's hurt? >> Yeah. Yeah, he's in the middle of the street. He was uh >> Police raced to this rural road, hardly able to see the road in front of them through the rain and pitch black night. But as their headlights swept across the center line, they saw him. 55-year-old Donnie Britton crumpled in the center of the road, unmoving. His clothes were torn, indicating that not only had he been hit by a vehicle, but he had been dragged by one. Sadly, Donnie was deceased by the time law enforcement arrived, which means it's not just a hit-and-run police have to solve, it's a murder. As police desperately tried to process the scene, Donnie's wife, Mary, began to act erratically, trying to explain to law enforcement what happened. >> Sir, somebody pushed him out. He needs to go after him. >> What do you know? >> He's driving my pickup. >> Okay. >> Okay. >> I was watching cuz I'm weird. >> Sure. >> Outside the door? >> Yeah. And you were at Bart's place there or at the bar? >> house. >> You were at your house? >> In the driveway store. >> Okay. [snorts] So, what happened? >> I seen him. I seen the truck stop. >> My truck stopped? Okay. >> My truck. >> Your truck stopped? Okay. And then what happened? >> Then I didn't see anything, so I I ran out the house. >> Okay. >> [laughter] >> What happened? What happened? >> He was there already. He was there already. I I got in the He's I got in the pickup and I drove it home. >> Where was he at? >> He was there. >> Okay, so did you run over him? >> No. [snorts] >> Oh, so what happened then? What How did he get end up where he's at? >> He was there. >> He was already laying there? >> Yes. >> Okay. >> You know, I was scared, so I drove the pickup home. >> Okay. So, he was driving that truck though? >> My truck. >> He was driving your truck? >> Yes. >> How do you end How did he end up outside of your truck? >> I don't know. I wasn't with him. I was at my house. >> So, when you showed up, he was on the ground? >> Yes. >> You took the truck and brought him home? >> Yes. >> You You took the truck home and you left him here? >> Yes. >> You didn't Did you see another vehicle in the area? >> No, I didn't even see him laying there. Oh my god, I didn't see him laying there. >> Ma'am. >> I turned around. >> Did you Did you run him over, ma'am? >> No, I swear to god I didn't. I turned around. >> Okay. Where's the vehicle at? I'm going to walk with I'm going to walk with you over there, okay? >> Yep. I'll stay here, Mary, right next to the bar. >> Okay. >> He's dead at Bart's place, please. >> I'm right here, Mary. Just go with him. I'll be right here. >> Oh my god, I didn't run him over. >> Obviously, her story makes no sense and the police already know one reason why that is. Upon arrival, law enforcement could very clearly smell alcohol radiating from Mary's person, and her slurred words and nonsensical story confirmed what they suspected before she even opened her mouth. But her story, that she discovered her husband like this and then drove home because she was scared, continues to get worse. >> Was there anyone else outside that may have seen this, ma'am? Is there anyone else here that may have seen what happened? >> No. >> What's your first name, ma'am? >> Mary. I'm his wife. >> Okay. When you turned around, ma'am, did you notice that you went over anything at all? >> die. I didn't turn around. >> And drove over here? >> [snorts] >> I didn't. I swear. I don't even have the fob. He has the fob. >> He has the fob on him? >> YES. >> OKAY. WHAT'S YOUR FIRST NAME, MA'AM? >> MARY. >> Mary what? >> Terry. >> Terry? Mary Terry? >> Yep. >> Given the number of lies she's given in just a few minutes, I can't really blame the officer for not believing her name is, honest to God, Mary Terry. >> Hey, Bill. Is there anything on that truck? Hold on, ma'am. All right, she's going to be driver, bro. >> I didn't drive it. >> You just told me you drove it from the scene, ma'am. You drove it from over there in the middle. >> and came back. >> You walked over here? You You just told me you drove >> I walked from the house. >> Over there? >> Yes. >> And how'd the truck get back here? >> I drove it. >> That's what I'm saying. You drove the truck from the scene over here. That's what I'm saying. Hold on a second. No, I don't think you should go over there. I don't think you should go over there. Let's hang out here, okay? >> Really, I didn't do nothing. >> I mean, I don't know what to tell you. All I can tell you is your truck ran him over. >> It wasn't me. I was home. >> Do you know who who might have been driving it? >> I don't He was driving it. >> Hold on. Hold on a second, Mary. >> He's got the fob. >> She just told me that he drove the truck from the bar here or from the house here up over there where he's at. She went over there. She didn't see him there. She got in the truck and drove turned around and drove the truck back. >> Okay. >> I wasn't driving, Billy. >> So, in a small town, everyone knows everyone. And in this case, Mary is familiar with the cop Billy, but he doesn't mince words with her. And judging from his reaction, he doesn't seem terribly surprised that she had been found in this situation. Well, there's some tests I need you to do cuz you told me you were driving, okay? >> I wasn't driving. >> You >> Well, I drove from there to there. >> Yes, ma'am. So, you drove, okay? Okay, and I believe that you're intoxicated, okay? >> So, we're going to I need you to do some tests. >> All right. >> Okay? >> Yep. >> Um Let's go right here. Let me do it right here. >> Mhm. >> Are you looking at the tip of my finger? >> I am. >> You're not looking at the tip of my finger, Mary. We're going to do what's called >> I'm dead serious. >> You are looking at it? >> Yes. >> It doesn't look like it to me from where I'm looking at it, Mary. Tip my finger. >> Can you see it? >> Yep. >> There you go. Okay, you're ready? >> Yep. >> YOU CAN BEGIN. NOPE, MARY, YOU'RE GOING TO DO NINE YOU'RE GOING TO DO NINE STEPS. I did three. You're going to do nine. >> You told me to do three, dude. >> do nine. I did three to demonstrate. You're going to do nine. So, let's do it again. >> All right, all the way out. >> Yep. All right, Mary. I'm going to have you do a PBT for me, okay? Blow into that little machine so I can see where you're at. All right. >> [snorts] >> Have you ever been arrested before for a DWI? Never? Okay, have you done a PBT before? >> No. >> Blow into the machine. Okay, hold on a second. >> I was going to do it with my husband, and >> All right, after Right after we're done here, we'll go over there. Do you know what the legal limit in Wisconsin is? >> Point oh eight. >> Yep, you're 100% correct. >> Well, I own the bar, so >> Okay. 298 .298 >> .298 is nearly four times the legal BAC limit in the US, and it's It's where many people find themselves unable to carry a conversation, stand, or even function. .30 is widely considered the threshold for alcohol poisoning, and the fact that Mary has those levels and is still able to at least semi-function tells police that this isn't her first rodeo. They take Mary to holding for driving under the influence, and the next morning, once she's sober, they try to get the real story out of her. And if you enjoy killers like this realize they're not winning an Oscar, subscribe and check out our Spotify where we upload podcasts every week. >> Give you a brief rundown of what we are interested in is we're looking into the events from last night. >> Mhm. >> Um and and I'm sure you know what those are and I know um you're here uh as a portion of of the events last night. So, uh that's what we're looking for answers for. Um if you're willing to answer questions about that, uh we would need a signature to continue. Looking at the pictures right now. >> Okay. >> I guess tell us what you know about last night. >> What part? >> It wants to start start at the beginning. Or if it's if it's something started earlier than last night or yesterday or day before or >> Everything was fine. >> Oh, okay. >> We went for a ride. And we got in an argument. He stopped, dropped me off at home. And in that big window that's in my house, I see him stop in the So, I went to run out there to see what was wrong, and he was laying there. So, I got in the truck and I pulled it out. I called I was going to call 911, but the guy next door called 911 first. That's what I remember. That's the truth. >> Okay. You said we and you you said he. Who are we talking about? >> Donny and I. >> Okay. >> [snorts] >> Um So, yesterday, everything's going good. >> Yeah. >> You guys are at home. You said you went for a ride. >> We did. >> Okay. What What did you Where did you go when you went for a ride? >> Um we always take we go through Blackwell and then take around Trump Lake and back through and back home. >> Is it like a back road back road? >> Yeah, it's a gravel road looking for deer. >> Gra- gravel road, blacktop? >> Blacktop. >> Okay. So, you stay on like County H, that area? >> Yeah, there's a road from Lake to come back. >> Oh, I got you. Um anything happen on that ride? >> No. >> Okay. Who was who was driving when you went for the ride? >> I was. >> Um do you have a driver's license, right? Does Donnie have a driver's license? Okay. Does he drive sometimes? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Um so, you go for your ride, nothing happens though? >> No. >> Okay. Um what happens after the ride? >> He dropped me off at home. >> Okay. >> I went I was going to say we had venison later. Oh, we had my cupboard bare cuz yeah, we were going to cook out. >> Okay. >> And he left. >> You mentioned there was a argument or something? >> Yeah, we just >> What was that about? What was that about? >> Our same stuff that we do every time. >> Okay, but what is I guess I'm I don't know what the same stuff is. >> Oh. I don't know. It's stupid stuff. He'll say something. About me working or whatever and then we get into an argument. >> Are you guys in a relationship? >> We're married. >> Okay. Um it's kind of marriage bickering, is that what the argument is? Okay, I'm married, I know what happens. Like I think we argue you know, that's part of marriage. >> Right. >> Um but nothing in particular that really set it off, it was just like a comment or something like that and there's an argument. So, he [snorts] he leaves, you say? >> Yeah. >> Does he leave walking in the truck? >> In the truck. >> Okay. And you said you got a big bay window and you could see >> Big bay. >> Okay. So, he you see he leaves, you know which direction he goes? >> Yeah, he went around and then he came by the house again went toward the store, so. >> Okay. You say he went around, what do you mean? >> Well, he must have went around home and come back through. >> Okay, so you think he made like a a lap already? >> Yeah. >> And then he had come back? Any reason why he'd do that? Just >> Take a ride around town. >> Make sure you were still home or anything like that? >> That I didn't go back to the bar. >> Okay. >> [snorts] >> What did that ride you do have something to do with the bar last night? >> No, it had something to do with the bar. >> Okay. And I mean, you're the owner, it takes a lot of your time, takes a lot of your I'm sure it takes a lot of your energy. Uh you know, that kind >> 30 years of doing it, yeah, it does. >> Mary Terry and her husband, the victim Donnie, ran a bar just down the road from their home and the site of the accident called Barb's Place. And if Randy here knows what he's talking about, apparently it was a pretty popular dive. After Donnie's death and the rumors swirling around town, the bar stayed open, but no one dared to visit. People had seen Mary's drinking at her own establishment first-hand, and the fact that this happened left everyone shell-shocked and wondering if there was something they could have done to prevent Donnie's death, especially on the night that it happened when he and Mary left together visibly intoxicated. >> What were you guys drinking? >> Beer, Bud Light. >> Bud Light. Bottles, cans? >> Bottles. >> Bottles, awesome. >> [snorts] >> How many do you think you guys had when you went for the ride? >> What do you mean? >> Like how many bottles did you have? Did you have two cases Did you have a case with you or was there two cases >> Oh, we stopped by the 20 pack. >> Okay. >> Yeah, gas station. >> Got you. Were you drinking before you left? >> I had a few beers at work, yeah. >> Okay, had he been drinking? >> No. >> Okay. Was anybody drinking on the ride? >> Yeah. >> Both of you were? >> Yeah. >> Okay, both of the Bud Lights. You said you were drunk last night, Mary. Do you drink regularly? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Um in comparison to a normal night, were you did you drink more or less, same amount? >> More. >> Okay. Is there any reason for that? >> No. >> Just >> The people that were in the bar. >> So, see him going that way. That way. >> Then I went to the bathroom and I came back out and the truck was on the side of the truck on the highway. >> Okay. >> Sitting there with the door open. So, I don't know what happened. >> Did you [snorts] see You said you Did Did you see the truck physically drive by after he left, which makes you think he made the loop? You saw the truck go back towards the supermarket. >> We use the >> the storage unit. Um you use the bathroom, you come out and you can see the truck down the road with the which door open? >> Uh uh driver's side. >> Driver's side door open, and can you see anything else? >> No. >> Okay. >> [clears throat and cough] >> What happens after that? >> I run down the road. >> All right. >> And he's laying on the ground. >> Okay. Then what? >> I jump in the pickup and I drive it back cuz my phone was in the house. >> Okay. Was anybody else there when you were there? >> Yeah, the guy across the street came across. >> Did he say anything? >> Yeah. Did you call 911? I said, "No, I don't have my phone." >> Okay. What did you I guess what did you What did you think happened? >> I have no idea. I'm so sick right now, I feel like I want to puke. I don't know what happened. I honestly I don't know. >> [snorts] >> Um >> And I drove on top of it. So, >> You are now or you were? >> Were. >> Okay. Um >> Stupid. Stupid. Sorry. >> Take your time. >> Mary's neighbor, who was a witness on the scene, told police a very different account of what happened, and it really gives insight into Mary's motivation and state of mind at the time Donnie was hit. >> All I'd heard was, you know, like a thump. >> Okay. Okay. >> And that was basically it. I didn't see no parked that way. As I was walking back that way to see if the truck did go backward. That's what I heard it, but I didn't see no vehicle other than the guy laying in the street. So, I So, but it looked like he did get run over. >> Was there anybody else out there when you went out there, buddy? >> No. >> Did anybody else show up or arrive at the scene? >> Um Mary showed up probably maybe a minute or two after that. >> Did she make any statement? >> No. She No. >> Did she say anything or I mean, I think she was upset or >> Uh she She didn't seem like she was aware of how bad he was because, you know, he was laying face down. He You can see the gash like this notch this, you know, get up get up. >> Okay. Did uh So, when Mary got there, how did Mary get there? >> She walked. >> Mary evidently responded to Donnie lying on the ground by telling him in an annoyed tone to get up as if he was being dramatic. In reality, Mary hit him with her truck. Somehow after doing that, she was still placing the blame on Donnie's state as him playing it up. >> In your little dispute yesterday, did anything get physical between the two of you? >> He got his arm cast. >> Yes. So, when you go down there and you see the driver's side door open, where is he again? >> He's laying on the side of pickup. >> Did you notice anything about him? >> Yeah, cuz his pants were half off. >> Did you try to talk to him anything? >> I tried to get him to talk. >> Okay. Notice [clears throat and snorts] anything? Was he I guess was he on his belly or his back? >> Belly. >> Okay. Um Did Did that change at any point? >> Yeah, we turned him over. >> Okay. So, you were there when he got turned over? >> Mhm. >> Okay. >> I think the other guy across the street he helped me do it. >> Okay. Was anybody else there with you? >> I don't think so. I don't Honestly, I don't know. I was so scared. I don't know. I just remember him standing there. >> Okay. Was he there when you went there? >> No. >> Okay. So, you you got there first, then? >> Yeah. >> So, he had to say Okay. And then so he comes over while you're already out there. >> Yeah. >> You guys roll him over. And did you notice anything once he was rolled over that wasn't right? >> Yeah, those pants were like down. >> Okay. Anything else? >> No. What about No, I was so scared. I was trying to No. >> Okay. So, when you when you get in the truck, then how do you how do you get it back to the house? >> I pulled it out. >> Just the U-turn like >> Yeah. >> Okay. So, it's parked way off to the side, so you weren't able to swing that U-turn. You just drive it >> No, cuz I was so close to the park without >> the >> driveway. >> Yeah. >> I could see it like that. >> [clears throat] >> But you didn't go into the driveway. You stayed out on the road or on the road. Okay. So, you made a short turn and just head back to the house. Okay. And then once you get back to the house, then what? >> I got my phone. I ran back out. >> Okay. >> But he said he had already just called 911 and it wasn't long after that you guys were there. >> So, the only reason you get in the truck then yesterday is to drive >> Get my phone. >> Okay. Um But we don't know where your phone's at, so did you ever get it? >> I don't know. >> Okay. >> I don't I don't know. I was scared. I don't know. >> Okay. The truck wasn't moving when you got into the car, right? >> No. >> And it wasn't like bumped up against the curb or in gear or anything like that. >> No. >> But it was running? >> Yes. >> Like you said, we talked I know you said this already earlier, but nothing happened on when you guys went for your ride? >> Nothing >> out of the ordinary? >> No. Shoot. >> Um Does your vehicle have any damage? >> What do you mean? >> Well, think of everything as a the pickup truck you get used, right? But is there any damage to it? >> Yeah. >> What what kind of damage do you have? >> I know. Behind the driver's seat, other door, somebody tried to break into it. Beat it with something. >> Looks like there's dents up there, and then was there a flare or something on the top that maybe got ripped off? >> They've been ripped off, but that that happened different. It smashed the window. >> Okay. Any other damage? >> Um there's dents on the tailgate. >> [snorts] >> There's Yeah, tailgate. >> Driver side, passenger side? >> Driver side, I think. There's a dent the door on the driver side, I think. >> These dents got to have some stories, huh? >> Hello. >> No. >> I use this as a work truck, so >> Yeah, okay, got you. So, like the >> It's so fun to pay that much money for a month for a truck and have >> Have it all dented up. Did you have your phone when you went for your ride? >> I don't think I did. I think it was at home. All right. >> All right. >> Kids can get you. >> Okay. know. >> [snorts] >> I don't think I have it. He was uh Donnie usually had it in his front pocket. Was it in the truck? No, I I did not. I was just curious is it >> Yeah, he gave it to us. >> Yeah. Did he keep it in his pocket or did he just set it in the cup holder? >> No, he usually was He usually has it in his pocket but I mean he leaves it leaves it down on the center console. >> Okay. Does he ever put it anywhere else? >> You said his pockets? >> Yeah. So even when he's riding shotgun, does he put it anywhere else? >> He'll lay it up on the dash. >> Yeah. So the reason the reason I'm just wondering what you say [clears throat] when you guys left for your ride you put the dog in the kennel, dog was in the kennel. You thought your phone might been on the table, phone's still on the table. You went got the truck, came back specifically to get the phone, right? >> Yeah. >> But the phone never moved. >> No. I was I don't know what I was doing. >> Police have found a big problem in Mary's story here. She claims that she went back to the house to get her phone to call 911 and that earlier in the day both she and Donnie went for a drive where they had their phones with them. But the phone records indicate that that wasn't the case. The two never went on a drive together. It seems that they went home from the bar, got into an argument and Donnie stormed off walking down to the storage units to cool off. Instead of giving him space, Mary followed him and then the unthinkable happened. >> You guys didn't hit a deer or anything on your ride yesterday >> No. >> recently at all? >> No. >> [snorts] >> Cuz there's a couple of things, Mary, that that we learned from both the truck and just from being there and what we're seeing. And so there is some there's some new damage to the truck if it if it if you what you described to us is all of the damage that was there. There's there's [snorts] new damage to the truck. Um and it just I'm I'm just trying to I I'm just trying to piece stuff together. Um his cool off spot is the storage unit. There's a little bit of a whatever, you know, husband wife argument. He goes cool down at the storage unit. You know, you would be mad that he took your truck if he did, right? >> No. >> No? >> He takes my truck everywhere. >> Okay. You know, it's I I was just kind of thinking, you know, maybe well, you see him drive by. Now it's now your truck's parked down there and and you're like, I'm going to go get my truck. >> No. >> No? >> No. >> You mean the the new damage we're talking about is pretty substantial. And if you drove it for your drive yesterday, you would you would have seen it. >> Yeah. Can I tell you Yeah, it was it was noticeable that he hit a deer. Like a deer. >> Really? >> Yeah. It was There was like deer hair There was like deer hair all over it that was even stuck in it. >> I honestly I don't know. >> You don't remember it when you didn't go for a ride though, he a deer. >> No. Yeah. >> I never >> The damage to the car was impossible to ignore. Police noted in their report that the damage to the truck appeared to be consistent with the injury the decedent sustained to his back and right shoulder. Below the angle iron were two dents, which were consistent with the heights of the decedent's upper torso and hips. Below those two dents were two impressions in the dust of the bumper of what appeared to be legs or fabric patterns. They had no doubt that Donnie had been struck. >> I had I didn't hit no deer. I don't even know what you're talking about. Where was it hit at? >> On the on the front. On the front. There was a plate there. As far as where the deer was hit, we don't we don't know. We don't know where the deer was. So, that's where like or where >> We're asking if if >> I don't know. No, I never hit a deer. >> Yeah. And if you guys were you guys were driving around on the highway and stuff. >> There's a lot of deer. >> There's a lot of We hit We almost hit one headed there last night. >> We didn't hit a deer, Rich. I didn't hit a deer. >> [snorts] >> Did You didn't hit anything when you were driving from the storage units back to your house? >> No. >> But, I mean, like anything to cause the damage. >> No. >> Yes, when you when you drove it, did you Were you in a hurry? >> Well, yeah, I was in a hurry. I scared I didn't hit anything. >> I I'm just all I'm The amount of damage, if you drove it yesterday on your on your ride, you you would have said you would have seen Even if you were drunk, I think you would have seen this. >> You got that right. I don't know what I You're talking about, honest to god. I never hit anything. I never I never hit anything. I never hit anything. >> How much of the beer in that 20 pack do you think you drank? >> Probably all of it. >> Most of it? Okay. There's one in the center console. Whose would that be? >> I don't know. I don't know. We're both pretty good drinkers. >> Finally, police aren't playing Mary's games anymore. They buckle down and accuse her of what they already know. She was drunk, and in her drunken state, she killed her husband. >> Well, Mary, I got to ask. Did you get all upset over this little argument? >> No. >> Did you want to hurt him in any way? >> Hell, no. >> Okay. Do you Do you love him? >> He is the love of my life. He is the love of my life. Like, we just got married. Try. No, I didn't want to hurt him. I did hurt him. >> [snorts] [snorts] >> I know you said you were pretty drunk last night, Mary. Is there any possibility [clears throat] that an accident could have happened? >> I don't think so. no. >> I I really don't believe. I mean, just throwing it out there, I really don't believe you would you would try to hurt somebody that way. >> I WOULDN'T HURT NOBODY, NO. >> AND I'LL BE honest with you, Mary, if it was a little fist-a-cuff, >> [snorts] >> I'd probably say, yeah. I I I think Mary probably get into a little throw down. But, I really I really >> [snorts] >> I think it's stretching it to say you would go to to do something like this to somebody. >> Did not. >> But, it does leave the door open that that accident could have happened. >> I don't know. >> And and just [snorts] in everything we've been talking about, what we saw in the truck, what we saw in the truck, what we saw in the house, what we saw with the dog, the timeline, what the neighbors saw, it just it just seems like an accident might have happened. >> I know. >> That that adds up. And and when I mean, you know when when people are drinking, they don't nobody intends anything. >> It didn't hurt him. >> It's just it happened so fast. Nothing [snorts] was meant. It just >> I didn't hurt him. I hurt him. >> [snorts] [sighs] >> What would I get out of hurting him? >> Nothing, Mary, and I don't believe it was intentional. >> I didn't do it. >> I really don't believe [snorts] it was intentional. I don't think you wanted to hurt him, okay? >> You don't know me. I don't want to hurt him. >> But I I think an accident happened, Mary. >> [snorts] >> Everything points to an accident happened. And it's it's sad and it's unfortunate. But, you know, nobody wanted anybody to get hurt. >> [gasps] >> And and there's always there's always times that things black out and >> [snorts] >> Who else could have? >> You don't know. I didn't do it. I didn't do it. >> [snorts] [snorts] >> Joey here. >> [snorts] >> There's just so many unanswered questions, Mary. And I think you know some of the answers to them. >> Joey told >> I'm not here to pressure you. If If you want [snorts] to be done, we'll be done. I'm just trying to explain >> [snorts] >> this whole tragedy as best I can. >> [snorts] >> There's just parts that are different from what you're telling us to what we have heard. If it was an accident, tell us it was. >> I don't know what happened. I don't know. I'm sorry. I'm losing my voice. >> Mary, I'm going to give you two examples, okay? You tell me which one is >> I don't know what happened. Oh my god, I don't know. >> And that's where this question's going. Mary, is it Is it safer to say you don't know what happened after a certain point last night, or is it safer to say I did not? >> I DON'T KNOW WHICH ONE IT IS. NOW YOU GUYS GOT ME CONFUSED. >> [snorts] >> I DIDN'T DO IT. I DIDN'T I DIDN'T DO IT. OH MY GOD, I'M SORRY. I DIDN'T OH MY GOD, I didn't know what to do. I don't know. >> With Mary's BAC of nearly .3, it's not impossible that she doesn't remember what happened that night. People with a BAC of .3 sometimes experience blackouts and a complete loss of memory. However, Mary has given several tells that she does remember more than she's saying. Specifically, every story she recounts and claims to remember seems to be a tool for making herself look more innocent. >> Would you >> [snorts] >> Sounds like you know the damage to your truck. Would you have noticed if the front bumper was caved in, plastic is hanging off the front. There's a big dent on the driver's side. >> There is? >> There's multiple dents, big dents on the tailgate, not the little blue one, big dents. >> I SWEAR TO GOD, I DON'T KNOW. I DON'T KNOW, I SWEAR. >> WHEN you last remember seeing your truck, THOSE WEREN'T THERE. >> NO. NO, THEY WEREN'T THERE. >> DO you recall seeing them in the heat of the moment yesterday? >> NO. I SWEAR TO GOD, I DON'T. >> NO, I I I'm not saying you I'm not saying you do. I just believe that you if you drove that truck, you'd see those. Not necessarily, I'm not saying when you go there and you fight him and I'm not saying you notice it then, but I'm saying when you guys went through your I you you didn't notice this. If it was there. >> Well, I would have said I have to come out my house where the truck is parked. >> [clears throat] >> Yep, and that would be So, when we found your truck last night, it was parked like right in the driver's side was right in line with the front door. >> Did it always have this dent? >> Well, from your big window, you could see everything. You you would see most of this damage from inside your house. I mean, it it's obvious damage. >> I don't know. >> It's like take it to the take it to the auto repair shop damage. It's not just damage. >> I don't KNOW WHAT YOU GUYS ARE TALKING ABOUT. I DID NOT HURT HIM. I SWEAR TO [ __ ] I DIDN'T HURT HIM. NO WAY I DIDN'T HURT HIM. >> THERE WAS NO way there was any chance that there was an accident. >> I I don't KNOW. I DON'T KNOW. I DON'T KNOW. I know I didn't hurt him. >> And that's I mean I just want you to know that I think that that's a possibility. Mary, I know you I know you know your way around a beer bottle and you're a good drinker. And if you say you're drunk that means you that means you're drunk. >> I didn't do anything. [laughter] >> And if >> [clears throat] >> if you don't know certain things >> [snorts] >> and you don't remember certain things >> I didn't do it. >> I just it just makes me believe that much more that an accident happened. You're not a bad person, Mary. >> I didn't do anything. Oh my god. >> But I think there's an explanation for what happened. And I think an accident is the best way to put it. I'll be honest with you, Mary. There's parts of your truck right beside you. >> What? What? Oh no. >> [laughter] >> I didn't do it. >> [snorts] >> Oh no. >> Mary, just one minute, just a second before you get in the back of the car, okay? >> Yeah. >> [snorts] >> Oh my god, no. No, no. No. Oh, no. >> In the end, Mary had to face the reality. She killed her husband. Initially, she faced a hefty charge, first-degree intentional homicide, which would have resulted in life in prison. [music] Instead of facing those charges, she took a plea deal, pleading guilty to homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle. In exchange, she was sentenced to just 10 years behind bars and 10 years probation. Our thoughts are with Donald Britton Jr.'s loved ones who lost him far too soon. Thank you for tuning in.
