I found surveillance video of you guys at Burger King. So, if y'all have footage, let me see it. There's your receipt. I'd get a blade for somebody I didn't do, bro. This specimen is Deondre Pool, currently realizing that he was caught on camera taking the life of the very man he calls his brother. And with his antics Look at him. Yeah, I'm looking at it, cuz that's my brother. You left him there in the parking lot like that. >> I didn't leave him like that, bro. Deondre will prove that he is not at all the sharpest tool in the shed, >> [music] >> and that surveillance footage is only a small, small part of the evidence he's left behind. He fell on the ground with his shirt off yelling, "I'm sorry." And I'm sorry. That's his last words, dude. Dude, all I can ask for is the truth. Would you at least tell him you're sorry? Yeah, I'm sorry for getting a blade for something that I never did. On December 3rd, 2024, police in Ohio received a flood of calls about a violent altercation behind a local Meijer. Passersby had discovered a man, Daren DJ Pollock, barely clinging to life. Police scrambled to the scene desperate to save the man, but it was too late. He had been stabbed in the chest. The ruthlessness of the attack left investigators desperate for answers. Fortunately, they hit the jackpot when it came to evidence. The Meijer was covered in cameras, and the surveillance footage they discovered on them showed the entire attack from beginning to end. In the footage, they saw a man who, despite being just 23 years old, had already been getting arrested for nearly a decade. >> [music] >> Deondre Pool. He was a regular in the local jail for drug use, possession, and fleeing and evading, which meant that when police saw Deondre on the surveillance footage, they immediately knew who he was. Identifying him was the easy part, but finding him, well, that took longer than they would have liked. Over 2 weeks after the murder of DJ Pollock, police managed to track down Deondre. They were ready to confront him with the footage placing him at the scene of the crime, but he wasn't ready to look at what he had done in the face. So am I staying here? Like You got a warrant, so yeah, you're going to be you're going to be staying in the jail. Okay. What warrant? You didn't show up to court. So, this is no secret. You're obviously under arrest, okay? You're right here back of the patrol car, handcuffs. Just told you you got a warrant for your arrest, you missed your court date, okay? Um so, I think they already advised you of your rights and stuff, okay? But I just want to make sure They didn't tell me why. Yeah, I just want to make sure you and I are on the same level playing field. I'm not out here to try to do any tricks or nothing like that. The detective rereads Deondre his Miranda rights. Now, throughout the interrogation, you'll hear Deondre mention that he's been brought in on a warrant for previous offenses. His previous drug-related charges landed him behind bars for nearly 2 years, and that's not even counting his juvenile charges, where he got in trouble for having a relationship with a 12-year-old when he was a teenager and ended up having to go to juvie. I try to treat people with as much respect as possible, okay? Um cuz I think what's what's given is what's earned, right? Um which is just the same reason why a lot of people have your name out there They didn't even in their mouth. And and I've heard some I've heard that there's been some threats going on around. >> Yeah. Um but if I were to go in the court of public opinion, you would be locked up in the clink for the rest of your life because some people are on some [ __ ] maybe. And if they >> And they might not be. They might be >> even thinking about it. I wasn't even with him at the time. Okay. Talk to me about >> I wasn't even at the at the time I wasn't even with him. I ain't never even met up with him. He called me or I called him cuz he was at his sister's rate got locked up. I called him. All right, he was talking to me. He said that he wanted me to you know, come and hang out. And I was like, "Nah, I'm sick." You can see I'm still sick over it, [ __ ] Like I even went over there with my dad and had to wear a cover mask. Like I can't I was sick, so I didn't even go over there. He was in Coleman. And I was like, "No, I can't go over there. It's too much drama over there." I'm not I just got out of prison, bro. I've been trying to chill. I've been staying to myself. I ain't nobody. And I get >> When when did you get out? I got out August 25th. August 25th? Yeah. All right, and I got caught with something that wasn't in my mind that I was delivering. It's kind of what your mom explained to me. So there was some stuff that you got caught with that she kind of Yeah, she kind of feels guilty about and stuff like that. Yeah, so I I don't think it's any secret right now. You've been a person of interest that I might want to talk to. I've been harassing a lot of people. I've been calling a lot of people, texting a lot of numbers, getting ghosted a hell of a lot. But I've been trying to get in contact with you. And unfortunately, it took you having a war took you having a warrant get picked up brought here like this. Okay? So first off, how do you know DJ? DJ, see I knew him because Dezray. Okay. His girlfriend. That's how I really know him. Me and DJ was like this. We never had problems together, bro. When we're together, we're like brothers, bro. We sit down, talk. We listen to music, all that. Yeah. How long have you guys known each other? I said about what, three or four now I can say cuz I met him before I went to prison, so and I did 17 months. 17 months? So I did a little bit over a year. Almost a year. I'm 23. 23? I just turned 23 November. >> So you got locked away at 21. 22. 22. Wow, yeah. Math is not my strong suit, so yeah. Okay. So you and you and DJ are close. >> Yeah, real close. Has DJ had beefs or issues with anybody before? I mean he said it himself. He was on Do that. Right. And that that's no secret now, obviously. >> That's one reason why I didn't over there to uh I don't like that type, bro. I don't I don't like the doors and all, so I don't scares me, bro. I Um Obviously, he's got his addiction, his demons to deal with. >> I don't And here's my >> That's why they put it against you, man. I don't want to go around it, though. You see what I'm saying? >> Yeah. Well, and so I'm kind of I'm kind of the same way. Um People have different life experiences. People go through [ __ ] People got their way of handling stuff. Right, wrong, or indifferent. It's not not not my place to judge. That's up for our creator up in wherever you think they're from. Um but at the same time people go through that stuff, and I'd be ignorant not to empathize and understand. Do you have any sort of struggles with addiction or drug use? Is that something >> I want to get Like I was doing I kind of stopped. And I want to I want to That's why I want to bring it up in court when I go. >> Yeah. Um I don't want no in-patient, though. I want out-patient. Okay. therapy. How long have you been kind of going through that? For a minute. For a minute. Like since you've been out or before you went in? >> Before. Okay. So, you were kind of struggling with that before you went in. When you were in >> It's not like an addiction. It's just I can stop, but I choose not to go through the sickness. You just don't like the sickness. >> Yeah. What What are your kind of How do you How do you feel now? >> I just sleep. Um Do you have any other any other issues or is it just the sleep? Cuz I know some people go through pain, their skin feels like it's crawling off, that stuff. >> It's just I I go through a little bit like my body hurts. Yeah. Dre here isn't addicted to drugs. He can stop doing them anytime he wants. He just chooses not to because of, you know, the withdrawals. Obviously, Dre hasn't quite come to terms with the fact that he's not only got an addiction, but he has one that drove him to kill someone he calls a brother. And not just that, but in a public area surrounded by witnesses and cameras. Yet Drake continues to insist he'd never steal, despite the rumors flying around and the aforementioned cameras. I don't get that either, bro. What are they talking about? Steal. Yeah. I don't do none of that. You don't do none of that? No, that's karma. Okay. If you steal from somebody, that's karma. Yeah. If you don't bite you. Right. I don't do that. Um So, you guys had known So, you'd known Deion or DJ. DJ, sorry. I ain't really bro, I ain't really been around DJ since like two What was that? A month ago? So No, from from then. Yeah. So, cuz Desirae So, bef- like before Thanksgiving, back to the beginning of November. >> Yes. Okay. Because Desirae. Because she was getting jealous cuz we was taking pictures together and [ __ ] Is what it is. So, Desirae didn't want you to hang out with him or That's what I feel. That's what I feel like. You felt like she didn't want you guys hanging out and that's kind of why? >> Yeah. Okay. Um You had mentioned that he had called to meet up with you and that he was hanging out at over at Cool Manor. Was he just wanting you to come over to Cool Manor and chill and hang or >> Yes. Okay. He didn't really say. I know you said he kept to himself, but he ain't got no enemies, nobody out there No, no, no. I ain't been around him for a month, so I don't really fully know. So, I guess we're in He ain't got no Facebook. >> We're happy then, I guess. This guy Really at my house and then I went to my dad's. So, um obviously we've already kind of covered a lot of people got your name in their mouth. Um but obviously the reason I come talk to you is not just by coincidence or it's coincidence or circumstance, okay? Um A lot of people have given us information. Um it's kind of where I come in and have to sift through, like I said, the [ __ ] A lot of it's embellished stories. Um, people are hurting cuz they've lost a a friend, a loved one, somebody that's been loyal to them. A dude that, like you said, stayed to himself, wasn't out there in the streets causing drama and all this stuff. Um, but ultimately it >> [sighs and gasps] >> somebody that had, like I said, his struggle. Um, and one of the very early on >> man. I ain't going to lie to you. Yeah. One of the very early on pieces is that I got was that, um, you and him were together before all this happened. And that you guys were at Burger King. That's one thing I had heard is that you guys were at Burger King. Um, so I have followed up there and I I found surveillance video of you guys at Burger King. So, that you you see kind of my concern where I'm sitting with you right now. >> what you're saying. Like, I heard this story. You went to Burger King, we was there. Yeah. And I'm and I'm wanting to believe you, you know what I >> where you can see where I left. Yep. Yep, you guys left. Um, you guys >> He was he was he was he was he was in the bathroom doing his stuff. Mhm. I went to the bathroom. >> in there for a long Yeah. He did and I ended up splitting up with him. You see he ended up going up. And I think it was a detective I seen went by me. And it was Sevy. Sevy behind Burger King. Behind Burger King is He was going through Burger King. So, now I have you guys on video going up past Domino's. Mhm. And then I ended up turning around because he was saying talking about going to steal. Mhm. I can't Listen, I'm not going to put myself in a predicament. We just came up here to do what? For you to get something. Not this to steal, man. So what was he What was he wanting? What was his issue? >> He was supposed to go there for some outfit. He ended up going I guess he was supposed to go there then he ended up saying, "Oh, now I'm You got the check in his pocket and I don't lost some money." Then he had up a story like, "I'm about to just go steal." So he Listen. Yeah, I was like so he was he was just trying to boost for something? >> Yeah, that's what I felt like. >> Just trying to boost for something. >> I can't, bro. I don't want to Listen, this is one reason why I didn't want to come back to this [ __ ] I'm trying to stay home. All right, my grandma died when I was in prison, bro. That was the only thing I had. It's the only thing. This is her ashes, man. I know it hurts, Deondre. I can't pretend to sit here and know what you're feeling. I know what you've been going through. I can't. Yeah, I can't believe he told me that. He was like, "Well, they want to brother me." I'm sorry, man. Dude, hey. Honestly, Deondre, listen. That right there gives me faith for you. Okay. Cuz I've sat across this table from many people, a lot of killers, and they don't have that right there. >> never even thought about killing somebody, bro. You can ask my mom. They ain't even never, bro. I'm scared to even go to prison, talking about killing somebody. I ain't even in the knife, bro. They took my knife here last time, bro. I ain't never had a knife since. Cuz I was scared, bro. I don't like carrying weapons. Should I have to Having your mommy vouch for you, unfortunately, doesn't hold up in the court of law. Faced with the reality that he's been caught on multiple cameras that contradict his story, is a clear slap to his ego. And finally, the tears start to flow. Because the cameras don't just contradict that he was with DJ the day of his murder. They show DJ and Deondre leaving Burger King, walking by a Domino's, going to Kohl's, and then going to Meijer, where only one of them leaves. Deondre, when did you When did you and DJ split up? I told you like Was it a a month ago? Like exactly a month. Cuz she got jealous. But I told him Now, listen to me, okay? What are you talking about the that that day? We was going up the hill. He was up right where we were you know, before the store. Where the graveyard is. Mhm. He was He was saying that cuz he started checking his pockets. I'm like, "Dude, what are you looking for?" He was like, "My money." Mhm. I was like, "I thought you just was saying you So we just came all the way up here for nothing?" For nothing? >> Yeah, cuz you guys walked, right? Yeah, I was saying you guys walked all the way from the east side, all the way up there. >> For nothing. And I was like, "Bro, I can't do this." I went to turn around. And I sat I sat down for a minute. I was like, I kept shaking my head like, "Dude, this dude crazy, man." Smoked a cigarette. And [snorts] I leave, and I see Paul. I used somebody's phone for a minute, called. Cuz my phone died. And it was that. He kept walking. He was like, "Bro, hit me up later." I mean I hit him up. What was it and I said like I was telling him like dude my girl was saying I don't got to stab you and all types of [ __ ] And what going DJ? You know what I didn't take back. What when did you message him that? I think it was that same day. How did you did you send that to >> His Facebook. >> His Facebook from your Facebook? >> Yes. You feel comfortable talking to me? I don't know why. I mean it's not it's not comfortable in this room period, but man to man you feel comfortable talking to me? Okay. Um Dude, all I can ask for is the truth. That's what I said. That's all I can do is tell you I promise. And and I know that's not the full truth. >> Okay. What's that? I know there's I know there's aspects to it that's true. >> What? Okay, but I know you guys made your way over to Kohl's. Kohl's? Kohl's. I've got I've got the surveillance video from where you guys went. >> Burger King. You guys went to >> to we went to Kohl's. And how long were you there? So what So what happens in Kohl's? It was the cop there. Yeah. >> Yeah, the cop was there. Yeah. Yeah, I don't know if he got a cop stolen. I don't know. So Yeah, so here you guys are in Kohl's. Yeah. Okay. Cuz they did cuz they did this coming out. Um I was trying to ask for that. Right and the guy was and all that stuff. He He seen it too. Yeah. >> [laughter] >> It ain't no secret to them. The thing about Kohl's is it kind of starts painting a picture for me. Okay, I kind of start seeing >> I'm not I won't lie. No, like definitely But We definitely was trying to go He was trying to definitely go back there. Mhm, not going [clears throat] to say that. Um so, you guys go to Kohl's. Yeah. In Kohl's, you guys kind of split up. You're doing your thing. You're shopping. >> Yeah, I was looking I was looking around to see what was doing what he was doing. Um So, >> to get into that. So, something about inside Kohl's is he's in there for like 3 minutes. You're in there for like 15. Yeah, looking for him. Yeah. And he beats feet. >> Banged out on me. Um So, I know when you guys are walking there, you have your backpacks and stuff. And then when you go into Kohl's, you don't have your backpacks. Okay. So, I know everybody puts their backpacks over here in the woods and stuff, hides them so that way people at the stores don't anymore cuz it's it's a universal sign that I'm stealing if I come in with a big bag. So, I know you guys stashed your bags over there at E Lee's. >> Cuz he told me to. He was He said this is where the homeless people stash their bags at. >> Mhm. And that's what I did. I left my bag. Yeah. And I didn't know what to do with it. You know what I mean? I'm not going to store with a bag and then take my bag. >> Right. So, you guys come out or he comes out. >> Mhm. Goes up there. [ __ ] done banged out. Yeah. So, then you come out. >> he found. And then as you're coming out here, I don't This is a These are videos, but these are just still images so I can't play them for you. So, this is Meyer. Yeah. There's this guy cleaning the parking lot here. Um So, I know DJ's already walked around the corner here. You come out. You're like, "Hey, where's this dude at?" Cuz camera has sound to it. >> Yeah. And so, then you take off jogging over this way. Okay. But I didn't see him. So, the lady that was over there on the other side was saying that he went up the hill. Like you know where the the houses is? Mhm. He [clears throat] said he went up the hill. So, I just right there kept walking. You can You can see. What is it? I just wish I could wave the magic wand and make everything better. Yeah. >> Like make things good for you, bring you peace, and bring you joy and happiness. Um I wish I could bring DJ back. I wish I could I wish I could I wish I could go back to December 3rd >> This is my brother. and have it stopped all this. That's my brother. Okay. You know what I mean? Um But I'm I'm saying that I ain't never killing. I ain't never stabbing. Do you really think that? Yes. Okay. Yeah, I don't know. So I sit here and cry and just And I get blamed for something. I don't think it I don't think it hurts you any less. It hurts me more. >> I think it hurts you just as much as if somebody else would have done it. If not, well, more, actually. Yeah, it hurts now I'm getting blamed for something, man. Because I >> And you already took off before I even got around there, he's nowhere to be found. So I know that you end up coming down West First Street with his bag. >> Yeah. Okay. Yeah, I have. You didn't when you come came up the hill. When I came >> by the Meyer, though. When I came around, he the bag was right there. Not when you came So Behind Meyer, the bag was right there. He had a bag so he's saying he had to stash it. He had to drop it off, so >> Whatever he did. >> You're going down Snow Hill. You're taking your coat You're taking your jacket off. Yeah. You're dumping his bag. Yeah. You're leaving. You're running. You're looking over your shoulder. Yeah. You're doing all this while >> I'm going to be running cuz I'm trying to look for him. And you're telling me when you came around that corner to find his bag >> you the >> bag was laying there. You didn't >> I put that on my dead grandma right here. I don't want you doing that. Well, I I'm serious though. >> I know you can't do that with a good conscience. No, I'm serious though. I'm dead serious. First, he uses his dead grandma to garner sympathy. Then he swears on her. If anyone has a reason to go do some haunting, I think he just gave her two pretty good ones right there. The camera surrounding Myers Garden Center and parking lot showed Deondre and DJ walking behind the store. DJ is carrying his backpack and Deondre is following behind him looking enraged. Soon after, footage shows Deondre fleeing the scene now carrying DJ's backpack with blood visible on his knuckles. When I came around the corner, the bag was right there laying. I don't know if he stole the golf or whatever he did. But that's why I was looking. The difficulty is the guy you talked to in the parking lot cleaning the parking lot, he wasn't the only one cleaning the parking lot there. I know. Okay. I know. That other guy cleaning the parking lot saw you two fight. What? All right. Are you serious? Deondre, I'm not making this up, man. Wow. He seen us fighting. Then he got Then he got stabbed. He got stabbed. How are we fighting? You guys were fighting over the bag. Wow. That wouldn't make no sense. I'm trying I'm trying to make sense of it. >> that wouldn't make no sense. wouldn't make no sense. Why would we be fighting? You got stabbed. And And why would I be fighting over a book bag? I got my own. That wouldn't make no sense. Cuz Do you want Do you Do you want to know what my hypothesis is? Okay, this is This is me playing I'm not a drug guy, okay? This is me playing dumb dumb drug card. >> What I'm saying is this. What about the drugs? I'm not I I'm I'm thinking he took he got one over on you. What? Took took your drugs. Took took what you had. No. That's what I think it is. No, he didn't. At all. Cuz I find stuff out strewn across the parking lot. Yeah, that was his needles. No, it wasn't it wasn't needles. What was It was actual rock. Rock? Like crystals. >> Yeah, that's what he did. What he had. He had Not crystallized. He had and and then he had Okay. That's what he was doing when we was at Kohl's. I promise you. I'm not lying about this, bro. Why would I have to fight over a book bag? You see me there there. But so >> What I'm saying is this. Why would I fight over a book bag that I got on my back? That wouldn't make no sense, man. It don't at all. I don't have nothing else to say. That That won't That don't make sense, bro. And that's my own brother, though. It doesn't make sense. And Deondre, do I Do I think Do I think Do I think that you went there that day with those intentions? Hell no. Hell no. What I'm saying is this, though. And Deondre, but here's the thing. What happened happened, all right? And you can only start owning up to I'm not going to own up >> things. And because because it's not going to bring you any sort of peace in this life. What I'm saying is this. I'm not going to own up to something I didn't do. If you live with that pain on your conscience I already told you. That's my own brother. What happened? I get put through under the bus and these all these other [ __ ] and Deondre, if that's nothing to say Deondre, if that's your own brother, why are you leaving him there yelling and screaming and rolling on the ground yelling, "I'm sorry." If that's your own brother, why would you do that, man? He's rolling on the ground with his shirt off yelling and screaming, "I'm sorry." And that's his last words, dude. I said I didn't even wasn't even there when saying that. Where was that at? Because you >> Let me see it. Cuz I should never seen him. >> Our officers get there and find you rolling on the ground and he's rolling So what am I supposed to know about that? I'm watching body camera. He's looking up to the sky and he's laying on the ground. I wish I was there. You left him. YOU LEFT HIM. I WOULD HAVE BEEN HOW? YOU WEREN'T LOOK YOU YEAH, YOU WERE LOOKING FOR him and you found him. I'm not going to sit here and lie about something that is my own brother. Period. There's nothing else to say about I ain't never stabbed that man. That is my brother, bro. That is my brother, bro. looking for him. How did he get a plus 3 inches long? No, that's not. I ain't never even stabbed him. Where was the weapon? I have no own I was at his autopsy. I was at his autopsy when they him open and they showed me the 3-in wound I'm saying to his heart. I ain't never had no weapon. If you can ask Did you go there with a weapon? Did you go there with a weapon? No. The detective has my knife here. My last knife they took. So what happened between you and him that a knife got involved? I never used a knife, man. I ain't never hit that man. I never did nothing. I've got a witness saying otherwise, dude. Dude, I don't have nothing to lie about, bro. But why are you? What? You are lying though, dude. I'm sorry for this, man. I don't want to be in this position. I don't want to have to be across from you as a grown man calling you a liar, but you lying, dude. I'm not lying. That's my own brother, bro. I'm not lying. I'm not a liar. So, are you lying to yourself? How am I lying about stabbing this man? This is my own brother, dude. >> he died, dude. What's that got to do with it, dude? Where is the evidence, bro? Where is the evidence that I stabbed him in the night? I'm worried about Pippi Longstockings here asked to see evidence, and the detective delivers, just not in the way he was expecting. All right. There's your evidence, dude. They worked for 30 minutes Wow. trying to save him. Wow, bro. >> [snorts] >> That's your evidence. Right into his heart, man. I can't believe this [ __ ] man. I'm getting blamed for something I didn't do, bro. Do you try to say I'm lying? 100%. No. Deondre. No. Look at him. Well, yeah, I'm looking at him, bro. He's my brother. You left him there in the parking lot like that. >> I didn't leave him like that, bro. >> [snorts] >> I can't believe it. I hope so. And y'all got proof of it. I get blamed for something. I know it hurts, dude. Hell yeah, dude. Y'all get blamed for something I DIDN'T DO, BRO. Because I was there and left was looking for this man. I'm not going to carry no needles, so I dumped the bag. What's that got to do with this [ __ ] man? Trying to look for this. Yeah, I took my [ __ ] off cuz I'm hot. I'm sorry, man. But I'm not lying, bro. I ain't never stabbed that man. And you can believe you can think I'm lying, I'm not lying. Damn, man. So, if you didn't stab him, who did? You can tell I sit there and was looking, bro. You said I'm looking over for my bag. Yeah, I'm looking for this man. I'm not going carrying no needles on me, period. I don't needles. His bag had was not was not left there without him being there. His bag Because the person who took his bag was fighting over it. And you were the one that left it on the ground. >> you he definitely was not fighting me over it. He was nowhere to be found. I was looking for him. Looking over my shoulder. What do you expect me looking over my shoulder for? That wouldn't make no sense, dude. >> [snorts] >> I can't believe this [ __ ] man. Don't have me doing nothing to this man on camera or nothing. What I'm saying is this, I I say I almost stabbed my own brother, bro. Because I was with him. And you think I'm lying. 100%. I don't think it, I know it. Yeah, I know it. You don't know it. It's not true. Not at all. I wish it wasn't true. I really do. I wish I Deondre ain't no proof to ask that. Deondre, I wish What I'm saying is no proof. I don't have nothing else to say. I wish that I could live in the world that you wanted to live in right now. I wish that I could live in the world that you wanted to live in right now. I know what I'm living in. I'm going to live But hurt and up because my brother died and y'all trying to blame me for something I never cuz I was with him. I was looking for this man cuz he banged out. Of course. Yeah. I won't live with it. Period. Y'all trying to blame me for something that y'all ain't have proof. You got pictures of something. Yeah, I was with him. But did I Was I looking over my shoulder and dumping his body out? Hell yeah. Of course. There's needles in the bag. I don't needles. If you know anybody that's with me, bro, I don't do needles. I don't like needles at all. I pass out. This is crazy, bro. If he was here right now, what would you say to him? Bro, I would hug him, man. What would you say to him? What do you mean what I'd say to him? What would you say to him if he was here? Bro, I would tell him I love you, man. What do you mean? That's my brother, bro. I'm telling you. We had no problems with That's what I'm saying. We used to fight. Would you at least tell him you're sorry? I'm I'm sorry for getting blamed for something that I ain't never did. So, you're sorry for yourself and not for what happened to him. Yeah, I do what happened. Yes, cuz I didn't do it. And I'm getting blamed. My man is dead dead. Dead now. 100% I know it. I was there. For I was there 5 minutes after 7. When cops, including the detective, arrived on the scene, DJ was barely clinging to life. Through his gasps, he repeatedly said that he was sorry. DJ may have been struggling with addiction, but he was a father, a friend, a man who wanted to be sober. And his own friend had just taken that chance away from him. I'm not going to say anything live, bro. Yeah, I was at first, and I apologize. I know I shouldn't have did that. But I'm not lying. I never stabbed that man. Don't leave by those things or you. I ain't never stabbed that man. You don't have proof. Cuz if you have proof, I'll do [ __ ] to you. You don't see it. Yeah, he got stabbed, but where's me stabbing him or beating him up? Cuz I ain't never put my hands on my brother. What you did? I didn't. What you did? No. >> [snorts] >> I want to see the proof. You got proof of him stabbed. I told you brother you did. You getting blamed for something y'all don't even have really proof of. I just wish you were able to What I'm saying, y'all don't even Y'all blaming me for something I didn't even Y'all already have proof. Full proof. I I mean stabbing him or punching him. Y'all got him stabbed already. Like that's bro. Y'all going to hell for that, man. I'm not the one pointing fingers at where everybody's going. What I'm saying is There is Y'all going to hell for that, bro. Whoever even is saying that they're going to hell for it. If that's And I'm not going to point fingers at nobody for where nobody's going to go. That ain't my place to decide. What do you mean? I I I'm never going to tell nobody that they're going to go to hell. I'm never going to tell nobody I'm just saying that it's just like It might be messed up, but it's messed up >> it's messed up what happened to him. Yeah, it is. And I and I know what happened. Okay? And I'm not and I'm play I'm playing a lot of my cards out. Am I not? You're right. But you know I'm not playing everything. You can believe you can believe whatever you want, but I ain't never stabbed my brother. There ain't no proof of that. There was proof, there would be it and I'd say it. I'd tell you I did but I don't. I'd have told you before if I would have knew. Or if I would even did it. Or I'd have to see him alive that serious. With my brother though? >> [snorts] >> She has a mom. A little bit. She knows it's her second son she's lost now. I'm sorry. It should hurt me too. She's got two kids. Ain't going to grow up with a dad. This is crazy man. So do you think I'm just going around trying to do the blame game? That I don't actually come in here knowing what you're talking about? I What do you mean? I You don't want to know. Cuz my mom My dad told me. He called My My mom called him. Y'all was out there. What? I'm not going to come in here and be this firm with you. >> Yeah. And tell you that I know what happened. Y'all can say y'all know what happened. I know what happened. I promise you I don't. There's no proof of there of no weapon to seen or nothing bro and y'all sending me to Because you took Because you If y'all have footages let me see it. I do. Y'all can see me stabbing him. All right then. This is all you're seeing now. >> I don't want to hear nothing. I don't get blamed for something I didn't do. >> [snorts] >> This is crazy man. How y'all going to blame me for something that and you saying it is true? If you don't have me stabbing or beating him up or I got a witness watching it. Oh, crazy. Anybody going to say anything? Anybody going to say anything? So, this Meijer employee would just go out there and be like, "Oh, this dude's out here. He's starting a fight over a bag, beat him up." >> Anybody can do anything, bro. Where is the proof, bro? That's all I'm saying. >> And I think anybody can do anything and this is a perfect example. And this is the perfect example to sit here and tell the truth. >> Deondre, I don't think you went there with the intentions to hurt. Well, I said this. I don't think you had the intentions to hurt him, but I think he hurt you and I think that's what started the fight and I think some [ __ ] happened and I think you will regret it. I think you truly 100% do, but I can't ease your conscience by having the the truth come out. I can't do that. All I can do is try to facilitate this for you to get some sort of sense of peace of coming to the terms with it. Okay? I understand. I can only try to do that. And if you don't want to take that opportunity to be able to sit here man-to-man and iron out the amount of our issues >> I ain't never stabbed a man. And that's a lie. Okay? So, tonight you're going to get charged with the aggravated murder and aggravated robbery, murder, murder and police. I'm Darren Paul. I mean, you can get your lawyer. How you going to charge me with something now? Huh? I need to be able to get a phone call, please. I'll work on it. What do you mean? I'll work on it. I got to get a phone and get stuff done. I need my numbers, please. I'll work on that, but those phones are going to stay with me. All right? Hey, you make sure you let my mom know? The detective leaves to complete paperwork and get Deondre's numbers to set him up with a call home. At this point, both of them know that Deondre is going away for a long, long time. Which is why when Deondre begins to dig for something in his pockets, panic spreads throughout the department. What you got? Just some gloves. Just the gloves? Go ahead and pop them out. >> Okay. Just go and pop them out then. Okay. I just saw you doing stuff. I got to make sure you are safe, all right? All right. Just pop them out then. All right. Just pop them out. Just making sure you don't try to hurt yourself or nothing, all right? I know you've had some issues in the past. Let me just check. I'll make sure you're good, all right? You ain't got nothing stuffed? No. Just gloves. Cuz you obviously know you're going to go next door. I just don't want you to go in there and catch another charge, right? So you don't break something hurt yourself or something, all right? It is a pipe that was in the in the right there. Just right in that side of the pocket? >> No. It's not right there at all it is. How are you going to charge me with something I didn't do? Y'all don't have full proof. That's something you're wanting to believe. Okay. Fortunately, the only thing in Deondre's pockets is frankly a bunch of junk. Whether that junk belongs to him or the so-called brother that he's murdered, we don't know. What we do know is that when he's left alone again, it only It 4 minutes for him to completely unravel. He has a habit of doing that on camera, doesn't he? Oh, it's a Hey. Hey, sir. Detective. So, you said how long? It It's going to be a minute, okay? I got to How long will it be until Please make a phone call. >> I've got to be in here with you when I make that phone call, but I got to get some paperwork and stuff started first so we can get this process streamlined a little bit, all right? I'm not going to try to drag it out any longer than it needs to. So, how Well, what I'm saying is how am I getting blamed for something? Because, bro Deondre, I'm not I'm not bullshitting you, okay? I'm not coming to you saying I've got stuff when I don't, okay? I'm not. That's not the type of dude that I am. That's not the type of detective that I am. What I'm saying is how are y'all going to prove something that I didn't do you don't have any police evidence? I do, though. Where? Like me literally stabbing. Because, yes. Let me see. I'm not showing you, dude. That's for That's for uh your discovery in court. I'm not I don't have a laptop to bring in here. I'm not lugging a computer in here. I'm not taking you out there to my desk to see it. I can't believe this [ __ ] man. I'm sorry, dude, but I can't not >> I'm going to get hit with a murder and y'all don't even try to help me. It's automatically not hit me with a murder. What can I help you with? I can't I can't >> Treatment, anything. You think treatment's the only thing that would get him Dude, a murder's a big deal. >> I know. And you think treatment's the only thing that we can that we should do? I agree. I don't know if I can get anything out, bro. I agree. I think you need some help. I 100% agree. I'm about >> That's why when we talked earlier >> I'm about to go down for years. That's why when I talked about your addiction and stuff, I wanted I want you to want it, not just to appease the court. >> me in in prison for almost life now for >> That's not my decision. That's not my decision. That's up That's up to a judge. That's up to people way long down the road from here. Right now, this is just me putting charges on you. That's all of this is. There's a long process to this. So, I'm not going to be able to get out or nothing now. Not tonight. I'm getting charged with Down there, look at me. I hate this for you, dude. I do. I'm getting a murder, bro? That I could do life or anything, bro? Worst of my life, bro. Am I right when I mean when I say that I don't think you went there with the intentions of that happening? Am I at least right? I can't dismiss What I'm saying is this, I'm about to do my life, bro. But y'all can't help me. Y'all can't help me get this drop down, or I think the truth looks a hell of a lot better than this lying. >> [snorts] >> Because at some point time, if this makes it before the four people, and they sit here and they watch somebody that lies and lies and lies, there's no remorse. There's no I'm sorry for what happened. It didn't mean to happen I didn't mean for it to happen. Put me down. I'm going to have to sit in this county. Sitting here saying because of murder. They ain't going to better let me out. I don't know. You'll get a bond. But whether you can post that bond, I don't know. What how high they set that bond, I don't know. Deondre is facing the possibility of life in prison without the chance of parole, and he knows at this point it's an open and shut case. He knows what he did, and now, knowing for certain that it was captured on camera, he knows there's no way out of it. But he's still got to try. I just don't want to get life, man. I can't control that. So you might as say you said you think you have they they they if I come there with remorse and and [ __ ] like that, you don't think they will? That's up to a judge. I'm not I'm never going to speak for the judge, cuz I'm not getting I'm not getting smacked like that. You been in ain't court rooms like that, though? Mhm. He's been I've been in courtrooms where the judge has watched an individual show little to no remorse, and try to intimidate the victim's family and witnesses, and they handed down and they smacked the person. Yeah, cuz he's his family is the more than whatever you said to his family. Then I've also seen it where they actually Perfect example. There was I think it was an 8-year-old. He was playing with her parents' gun who was just irresponsible with it. The parent got charged as a result of the negligent homicide and all that stuff. Let the kid play with it. The parent was distraught. Destroyed. Sitting there sobbing hysterically for what had happened. The judge showed mercy there. What did she get or he? They got I think only got a fine. They didn't even go to prison. I think they got probation and a fine. Was it a female? It was a female. Now, I'll tell you I'll tell you right now, your cases are not going to be eligible for that. Okay? I'll be upfront honest with you on that. There's sentencing guidelines and there ain't nothing like that. You're going to go to prison. There's no doubt about it. Okay? >> know that. I just don't want to You don't think I'll do do life? I don't know. That's a judge's thing, man. That's a judge's thing. I'm not I'm not going to sit here and promise you that. >> Cuz I wasn't Was it him, bro? Give me the perspective. What happened? What does the only go with? Because my witness says that you guys were wailing and fighting over this bag. And that's when it happened. He had hit me. That's when I got the bag. Yeah, he got the hit me. He hit me. I was just grabbing the bag. See what was in there. And that's when I finally know he had the bag. He grabbed something out of his pocket. I thought it was a knife. So That's what football. So, what happened? That was the only way that I was going to get out of the situation with my life, man. I'm worried about myself, and his life. I just don't want to do no life sentence, man. Cuz I wasn't meaning to, for I was scared, for real, bro. I really was. You know, at least they got bail, get out, and see my family. Before I don't know. Because let me hear something. No, I mean, you're talking nonsense again. I I I won't say yes or no. Because Deondre, I don't know what life holds for you. You know? You can do it. I could I could leave here tonight with every intention to go home to my family. And I could get in a car accident and die. I don't know what life holds for you. And one thing I won't do is live with my conscience of lying to you. I'm not going to make false promises. I'm not going to say or do or something that I don't actually intend to do. I'm a man of my word. Okay? And I appreciate you opening up and telling me what happened. So, what was being said during all this? Leave me What was being said? Was anything being said? He was saying >> just throwing fists? >> He was saying He I I up, and I said, "What happened to uh that [ __ ] was in my bag?" I wasn't worried about it at first. I wasn't. It was not where I came to him aggressive, none of that. I just said, "Where's Like, that wasn't even, you know what I mean, mine. >> [snorts] >> That was just left in my bag. And and he was like, "Yeah, that's mine now." I'm like, "Damn, DJ, why you acting like this? You just started switching up or what?" And that's when he just started taking off. He was pulling He don't punch me. And I've never seen him like that. That's what I'm saying. I don't know if because of drugs, because he ain't he done did them, I don't know. But I know that he said he was out. He told you he was out? >> piece. He said he had a little little crumbs. It was in his thing. I can't I don't know that cuz I ain't went in his pockets. But I definitely didn't wasn't laying there and watching him die die, though. No, I don't think >> left when I think you were surprised when you found out what happened. Yeah, I was cuz he wasn't dead. He walked away and sat down and got right back up and started trying to talk to me. I'm like, "DJ." I was like, "Bro." Then I was pissed. And I just kept walking. I'm like, "DJ, bro, you just made me sorry, bro. You just did this for what?" Because you want to take something that was in my Whoever was there with Come on, though. You knew that. And so, just to I should have knew that when he told me not to take it in the store. Yeah. So, then cuz I wouldn't think he would do some [ __ ] like that. To let you know I'm like, "Bro, no, bro. Why you do Finally, this detective has managed to get a confession. Though truly, it's not going to help Deondre much. The anger in the footage and the violence of his actions speak for themselves, but it does help make the detective's paperwork much easier. Holding up his end of the bargain, the officer brings a phone in so Deondre can speak with his cousin. Hello. I love you, man. I love you, bro. But everything's going to be okay, man. You just stay strong. Are you going to be good? I don't know. Don't say you're going to do anything dumb or anything. >> [clears throat] >> Please do what you got to do. What the world? I'm just letting you know. They got everything, so I'm good. I'm going down. Where you going? They got me with it. I love y'all, man. Y'all know I'm here. You know I'm here. All right, talk to them. They got footage. I love you, bro. I love you, bro. I love you, man. >> [gasps] >> We're going to be here for you if you need anything. You hear me? Yeah. You keep your head up, bro. Thanks. >> [snorts] >> Promise you won't do anything stupid, man. I think so. I had to tell her I love her, man. I love her. Keep up. Don't Don't tell me you're going to do anything stupid. I'm not. You're going to be all right. We got you, man. Ultimately, Deondre faced his charges, which included aggravated murder, aggravated robbery, and felonious assault. At trial, he initially pled not guilty before he changed his plea in an attempt to get a lesser sentence. In the end, he was given 15 years to life in prison for the murder of Darin [ __ ] Our thoughts are with his wife, his kids, and his family, who should have been given a chance to see him grow beyond his struggles.
