[Music] On patrol, you go to so many fatal collisions or serious injury accidents where you see people are affected tremendously. And a lot of times that person that caused that collision, it it could have been avoided cuz someone was impaired. Going to a lot of those and seeing the the impact it has, that really pushed me towards becoming a going into do more DUI investigations. So unlike patrol where they're responding the calls for service all day, um we have more time in the DUI squad to go out and proactively look for and find those impaired drivers. We go through an extensive amount of training that the average patrol officer doesn't go through. We conduct DR evaluations or drug recognition evaluations. We're all of us are are drug recognition experts uh in the traffic unit. So, we're able to go in, look at somebody in a controlled environment and take them through more in-depth tests, looking at their vitals, their eyes, creating an opinion on what drug category we think someone is paired under. In today's world, there's no excuse for it anymore with, you know, the city of Mesa has an incredible uh public transportation and then you have Uber, Whimo, uh Lyft. So, there's there's no excuses. You get to really make a difference in the community that you live in, especially after a day where you take someone off the road that is extremely grossly impaired or has numerous and numerous times before been convicted of a DUI and they're just not getting the message. Getting them off the road and putting them in jail is it it's a it's satisfying. My name is Officer McGee. I'm with the Mesa Police Department traffic unit. Currently assigned to the DUI squad.
