Obviously, there's probably some bias in this, but I think Mesa is the best department to work in. Uh we have a community that supports us. We have city management and upper police department management that supports what we do. Um the training we receive is light-years in comparison to other departments. Um I'm sure if you cherry-pick things from each other department that yeah, you could probably defeat that, but I would say as an overall whole, Mesa's uh probably the best department that you could work for. So, we're going to stop this pedestrian. He's in a sense jaywalking across the street. She's still in the middle of the roadway right here, so dangerous for herself and motorists. Three try 13, Paul. Can you show us out with a female Mesa driving southbound in the roadway? >> in the middle of the roadway. You're crossing against traffic. All right, you got a little dog. >> I'm on my dinosaur, so I'm trying to get home and get something to drink. Okay, I got you. You have your ID on you by chance? >> but I know the number. Okay. Do you have any Have any weapons or anything on you? Anything illegal we need to know about? Okay, perfect. She's not illegal. What's her name? >> She might be a weapon, though. >> [laughter] >> Her Her name Her name's Dizzy. She doesn't look happy. Hi, Dizzy. Is she all right if we She not Is she friendly or no? Not too much? >> She gets a little I don't know. She's really protective of her. You said you don't have your ID on you? I don't, but I know Okay. And I know my name and my date of birth. That's fine. What's your last name? It's uh I was like, "Man, What's your birthday, Miss? >> I never I always go down that way. But I'm like so thirsty. Like we're just dying of We're just dying of thirst. Yeah, it's kind of hot out. I know. It's How old's Dizzy? She is 2 years old. All right. What kind of What kind of dog? I say she's Chihuahua and Min Pin, but my boyfriend will say she's chewing. Okay. All right, like my partner said, we're stopping you for the jaywalking, all right? Can't be out in the middle of the road, especially sitting here in the median, and waiting for traffic, like especially with the sun. I would hate for someone to try to like see you or not see you because of the sun or the glare, and then you get hit, especially with your dog. Like that's it. I was just trying to be sneaky. I get you. No, I get you. I appreciate the honesty, but like you're that close to a actual crosswalk where if someone did hit you, at least we'd have some sort of defense to be like, "Hey, I was in the crosswalk doing the right thing." But when you're in the middle of the road, can't help you there. Okay? So, what side of the road are you trying to get to? That side. Okay. Okay, I'm going to stop the road for you, so you can get over there. But let this be a lesson that you don't jaywalk, all right? Otherwise, you get a ticket. I like your ticket. Cool. Thank you. Thank you. Thanks, Carrie. All right, you're good to cross, Carrie. Just go to the bike lane. Being in the median, like it's common for jaywalkers to kind of like use the the median to kind of scope out their next move, but it's obviously meant for vehicles, and this close to a median, you know, someone doesn't see her and kind of drifts into that lane, like has no way to defend herself, really. We have reports of a stolen vehicle. We have our drone, uh which is our DFR program, drone first responder program. They're actually on the way uh to help help us with some visuals, kind of confirm if it is occupied, and to help us with maybe some surveillance. So, it looks like it's a gray Hyundai sedan. It looks like there's some very specific damage to the vehicle, which is kind of what we have matching here. >> Yeah, so now our street crimes units are going to be getting here. They drive a unmarked car, so they'll probably start setting up for some surveillance here. We're just going to hang out and do some support. >> it's going mobile. It looks like it's going to come out and go westbound. It's moving pretty quick through the lot. The vehicle just took off from the parking spot. Per our drone surveillance, the vehicle is occupied by the driver and it sounds like possibly a second uh subject within the vehicle. >> He's at the very northwest corner of that apartment complex. He's now headed eastbound. The second they got out, it appeared that the passenger checked the door handle on a car sitting there in the parking lot and now they're back. He's down through the uh complex. Time to the air unit, our drone's about out of gas, so whenever you get 97, let us know. Okay, I'm coming overhead now. I'm looking for it. Park kind of cocked out on the west side. He's just backing up heading northbound now. It's eastbound on the north side of this complex. They're taking back off. And we are getting set back up to do a traffic stop. All right, first permission away eastbound unit lit it up. Slow rolling eastbound. Copy. Pulled into 303 West Southern. Copy. Driver, stick your hands out the window now. Driver, stick your hands OUT THE WINDOW NOW. DRIVER, ROLL down all the windows to the vehicle. Start walking back to the sound of my voice. Keep coming. Keep coming. Take a few steps to your left. Stop. Listen to me very closely. I want you to keep staying forward. Put your elbow to the car and just keep walking backwards. To your LEFT SIDE. DRIVER! OPEN THE DOOR NICE AND SLOWLY. Put your hands on top of your head. Stop moving around. Let's see. I'm going to try Spanish. >> Hey, we have them on the passenger side. We have them on the passenger side. OKAY, SIR. I SEE YOU. I WANT YOU TO NICE AND SLOWLY WALK BACK TO THE SOUND OF MY VOICE. FOR NO REASON DO I WANT YOUR HANDS COMING DOWN FROM YOUR HEAD. WALK BACKWARDS NOW. KEEP GOING. KEEP GOING. Keep going. Keep going. You're doing great. Keep going. Keep going. Are we taking them on the inside? >> left. To your left. Yeah, same as before. Keep going. Keep going. To your left. To your left. Keep going. Back. Back. Back. Back. You're doing great. Shuffle to your left. Shuffle to your left. Shuffle to your left. There you go. Keep coming back. Keep coming back. Keep coming back. Keep coming back. Keep coming back. Keep coming back. You're doing great. Stop. Move to your left. So, the steering column's clearly damaged. Often times this is kind of what happens when they steal a car. They'll break the column and do whatever they need to do to make sure that they're able to turn the ignition and start the car and unlock it and drive it away. Sorry I don't know if you heard, but uh I guess the driver just got arrested for stolen car not recently. So, okay. There's definitely a little bit of a history with that, but Yeah, and and from what I understand they're both juveniles, correct? >> Yeah, from my understanding, yeah. One of the officers got in contact with the registered owner or victim of this, and they're on their way. They're a couple miles out, so they'll be here soon. Seems like they're pretty elated that we found their car and we'll get back, so. I would be, too. Yeah. Honestly. And so >> And it's in one piece. Yeah. A little bit a little broken, but it's still in one piece. Yeah, it's still drivable, so that's all that really matters. I hate to see this kind of stuff happen. I mean, there's better things for you out there, you know? Like, you don't have to be active on the streets and doing things. I'm not saying what you did or didn't do, right? But there's better opportunity for you. Whatever this is isn't it, right? This ain't no fun. You don't want to be You don't want to be talking to me, right? You don't want to be sitting here in handcuffs on the side of the street, sitting on the sidewalk, you know? That's your Hyundai? I'm glad we're able to kind of return it to you. I'm happy. Good. I'm glad. How long has it been missing? This morning. This morning. I've been freaking out all day. Yeah, it just randomly got taken from what from my understanding. I work for So, I left this morning at what, 3:30? And I I didn't even look to see if the car was there. It was parked right by my side. Gotcha. Okay. >> He called me all all scared saying How was there a car there this morning when you left? All of a sudden it wasn't there, and then she I was like, "No, you didn't No, what? Maybe you parked it somewhere else cuz it was a long day." Right. And it wasn't there. Hey, what time did you realize it? 5:45 a.m. cuz I was going to work and going to take my kids to daycare. Look familiar? This dent to you? Um Okay. Oh my god, what did they do to it? Bumper, babe. They hit the bumper, too. Oh my gosh. Look at that. Oh. Oh, my poor car. They didn't know how to drive it. >> dirty. >> [music]
