Nationwide about 13,000 people are injured every year in school bus related [music] crashes. Some of these crashes occur when vehicles collide with children after they exit the bus. This usually occurs within 10 ft of the bus. This area [music] is also known as the danger zone. If you see a school bus with flashing lights, please slow down. The flashing lights are a good indicator that the school bus is about to stop and display its stop [music] sign. With the school year about to start again, we would like to remind everyone you must come to a [music] stop for a school bus when it is actively displaying a stop sign. Cars in both directions must come to a complete [music] stop if the road is not divided by a raised median. If there is a raised median, only cars in the same direction as the bus must come to a complete stop. The greatest risk to a child isn't riding the bus, it's approaching or leaving one. Please don't drive distracted, please be alert, and always stop for [music] a school bus with a displayed stop sign.
