This is a public safety message from Mesa Police Department. Speeding through school [music] zones isn't just dangerous, it can be deadly. That's why at the request of concerned residents, the city has [music] taken action to protect our most vulnerable pedestrians, our kids. On May 12th, city council unanimously [music] approved the installation of four photo radar units at two school locations, Highland Junior High and East Mark High School. These radar systems are strategically placed [music] to monitor both eastbound and westbound traffic near these schools areas where speeding concerns have been repeatedly raised by nearby families and residents. The purpose of these radar units isn't to issue tickets, it's to [music] save lives. School zones are busy areas filled with students walking, biking, and crossing the street. [music] Slowing down makes a difference. These photo radar units are a tool to help change behavior and increase [music] compliance with speed limits, especially during critical school hours. You'll also notice clear notification signs before each radar location placed [music] in accordance with Arizona state law. One about 300 ft before the unit and another even further back to provide plenty of notice. These signs [music] are visible and posted per city guidelines. Speeding in school zones is not just a traffic violation, it's a [music] safety risk. Let's work together to protect our children, our schools, and our neighborhoods. Stay alert. Keep our school zones safe.
