If >> you didn't steal, we'll figure out. >> On the 23rd of January, 2024, police received a report of a theft at Walmart. The suspect was reportedly a man who tried to swap his shoes inside the store while concealing other merchandise. But he was not alone. Another man was reportedly acting as a lookout outside. The officer then approached him. What's going on him? >> I know it ain't me. >> All right. >> All right. Don't Don't move. >> I just showed him. >> Show what? >> I got what I got in my pocket. >> All right. Let's uh let's turn the music off real quick. >> All right. >> What do you got in your pocket? >> Money, sir. My bonus. >> All right. Give me a favor. Have a seat. >> All right. >> Oh, my mama. I didn't do nothing. >> Stand up. I'm telling you to stand up >> for what? I didn't do nothing. >> I'm telling you to stand up, >> bro. I didn't do nothing, bro. I'm not standing. >> He became irritated when the officer approached and grew highly defensive, raising questions about what else he might have been hiding. Soon, the situation became even more tense. >> All right. I didn't do nothing. I didn't do nothing, bro. I didn't do nothing, BRO. >> I DIDN'T DO NOTHING. I DIDN'T DO NOTHING. >> I DIDN'T DO NOTHING. I didn't do nothing. >> I didn't do nothing, BRO. I DIDN'T DO NOTHING. DO NOTHING. Get out of my >> hand behind your back. >> You can't put your hand behind your back. This isn't helping anything. >> You got my hand. >> This isn't helping anything. >> Do you understand? Just put your hands behind your back and we'll figure it out. >> You all right? >> Not really, sir. >> All right. We'll get Let's get the cuffs on you and we'll adjust you. Okay. >> Can I get my phone? >> We'll get it for you. We'll get it for you. my people cuz this [ __ ] is crazy. >> The question is if he had done nothing wrong, why was he so resistant instead of cooperating? The situation became serious enough that backup officers had to be called in a minute. All right, but now you need to calm down. >> Oh my gosh, Phil. Come on, bro. What are you doing? >> I STOP RESISTING MY RESISTING BEHIND MY BACK, MAN. >> LOOK, why are you using so MUCH FOR RELAX? I'M NOT DOING NOTHING. >> YOU'RE TENSING up right now. >> I'm looking at you. >> You're tensing up right now. >> But I'm looking at you though. >> That's fine. But you need to stop tensing. >> I hate doing too much for nothing. Like, bro, I hate St. Cloud police. Bro, y'all don't want to do for nothing. >> Yeah. Keep going. >> I can't even. >> We got more units. You can breathe. IF YOU'RE TALKING, YOU'RE BREATHING. >> If you're stop physically resisting, >> check his pockets. Not >> yet. >> Hey, what's your name, man? I can't even breathe. >> What's your name? >> I can't breathe. >> What's your name, man? >> What are you doing? GET OUT MY POCKET. >> GET OUT MY GET OUT MY [screaming] POCKET. >> Oh my god. >> Police found no stolen items on him, but they did find a suspiciously large amount of cash in his bag. Meanwhile, the friend who was with him began to appear, bringing more details about what had happened. >> On the ground. >> On the ground. on the ground. >> Put it down. >> On the ground. >> On the ground. Got your back. Got your back. How you doing? How you doing? >> What happened? >> You know what happened. >> We're going to What happened? >> You know what happened. We'll talk about that. What do >> you mean, sir? We'll talk about it. >> What do you mean? >> Do you have anything on you that doesn't belong to you? >> What do you mean by that? Do you have anything on you that does not belong to you? >> Uh, no sir. I have my phone. Um, I'm going to get my wallet and >> come back and pay for the food. So, you Okay, >> that's fine. >> Yeah. >> Here. >> Huh? >> You got anything? >> What's your name? >> Sarnelius. >> Yes, sir. >> Just stay right. You got anything tucked in your socks? >> Got socks that belong to the store on three pairs of >> said you got like three pairs of socks that belong to the store on you. >> Say it again, sir. >> I said that you have like three pairs of socks that belong to the store on you. >> Oh, three pairs of socks. >> Three, four. There's There's a couple pairs of socks that belong to the store. >> Yes, sir. >> On you, but you didn't pay for >> Oh, I was paying for them. She said I can go to the car, grab my wallet, and come back and pay. >> I was watching you on camera, dog. You didn't do nothing. That's Darnelius. >> Darnelius? What you know me from? >> Yeah. >> No, I know exactly who this is. >> You got a warrant, huh? What? >> She's stealing from your aunt. >> Yeah. >> Your dad got picked up on it. >> What? >> Theft and a warrant. >> What is theft? >> Theft? You're stealing. >> What does that mean? >> That means you're stealing. Taking things that don't belong to you. >> Oh, no. No, sir. I No, sir. I wouldn't go. Are you taking it? >> I didn't I didn't take >> Okay. The signs pointed to a possible theft for illegal resale. At this point, the suspects began shifting the blame onto each other, but their stories were full of contradictions. >> He gave you the box, told you he had to pay for it. So, I'm pretty >> Okay. All right. >> Look at me. Look at me. >> All that money he can take a couple hundred. I'll take that [ __ ] >> Okay. >> Well, do you know at which which one he paid for that? >> What happened, sir? >> Do you know at which register he paid for that? Okay. >> No. Okay. Well, why did why did he leave you? Why after he he paid for it, did you guys stay around? >> I'm so sorry. >> Okay. >> But look, did he steal anything? >> Do you want me to find out? >> Yes, ma'am. Cuz >> cuz I believe that they did find stolen property on him. >> Okay. >> Okay. >> They found stolen property >> or property that's on >> the store. >> Okay. They pull him outside the store though, man. >> Mhm. Because the registers are pretty far back, right? I could sit and wait for you at the door, right? You know, the little holding area, right? Because then technically you still passed all points of sale at that point, right? I'm not saying you're a bad person. I think that it's a sillier error because you thought that as long as you weren't the one actively stealing, right? You don't get in trouble for it. >> Ma'am, I wasn't stealing though. >> No, I I'm hearing you. >> So, why am I being detained though? >> Why Why was I detained if I was 16? Well, Because you're stealing. >> I was I received the show. >> You have a receipt? Yes, sir. >> Where? It's in there. >> I have a good part for that. >> Remember that first half we talked about? >> Yeah. I'm bruised. My honey's gone. >> Uhhuh. >> I'm about to go to jail for the dumbest charge I ever seen in my life and get burned right out. Like that's it's a waste of my money and waste of my damn time. >> I agree. >> I agree. But that's unfortunately where we're at at the moment. >> The officer found none of the socks the store was looking for among his belongings. It turned out he had been wearing them the whole time. >> No socks on yours, right? You put them on. >> Yes, sir. >> Right. So, take them off. >> I'm going to take socks off, sir. with with handcuffs on. >> How do I take out How am I going to take my socks off with handcuffs on, sir? >> Give me your foot. Give me your foot. Give me your foot. Listen. >> All three of them out there. >> Yeah, I believe. >> So, I'm going to jail, >> I believe. So, yeah. >> For what? What's the charge for? >> Um, I believe it's still going to be under retail theft because you guys work together as a team. >> Ma'am. Ma'am, I didn't steal. Ma'am, please. Ma'am, I didn't steal nothing. They don't got no proof of me stealing no item. >> Jamar, first of all, remember one thing I asked. >> Just don't yell at me. >> I know, bro. It's just >> But and Jamar, didn't we just aggravates me though? >> But didn't we just talk about how if you're the lookout? >> I wasn't no [ __ ] lookout. How the am I looking though? How am I looking out though? How am I looking out though? >> So when I watch the video, it's not going to be >> Let me Let me watch the video cuz I'm not looking out. I go to the bathroom. told me that yes, that's what it would look like. You already said >> that don't mean I'm looking out for him though. Like why would I be looking out for somebody stealing though? Like that's stupid as hell. And I'm going >> In the end, the 24year-old was adjudicated guilty of battery on a law enforcement officer and spent 196 days in county jail. The 23-year-old shoplifter was adjudicated guilty of petty theft of $100 or more, but less than $750 [music] and spent 25 days in county jail. Trying to deny wrongdoing while resisting officers can turn a theft investigation [music] into even more serious consequences. Cooperating and telling the truth is always safer than making the situation worse. >> These two ladies that we apprehended today, they initially came here three times for chocolates. And this number here is above felonies. >> On the 28th of March 2026, police were dispatched to Macy's after receiving a report about two older women, Maya Grinberg and Marina Kurlesina, who had spent nearly 2 hours there and stolen more than $2,100 worth of merchandise. At that point, an employee also gave a statement about what happened. >> All right, man. What happened? Go back as far back as you can. Get as detailed as you can. >> Yeah. So these two ladies that we apprehended today, they initially came here three times in a row and each time is multiple probably like two uh two digits. >> They came they came here all like they were coming and going today. >> Today no today we got them when they came in they took like 2 to 3 hours to like do a whole thing and then that's when they exited. Uh but previously they did came once put whatever they had to put on the car came back >> for the second time. >> Okay. >> And then so on for the other two. >> Okay. So about today >> and today they came in cuz we noticed which car they got into or which car is theirs. So I spotted them from the parking lot. Uh they came in went straight into the shoes department selected two pair of shoes and then the other one selected one. The main one just started walking away, wrapped it up with her shirt, and then kind of went by the aisle by the bathroom before we go in and she couldn't see the two shoes. And then the other one just did the same thing, but she just had a new hand and just didn't care. Afterwards, they went back onto the men's floor, first floor. Uh, they started selecting hub roll, lacrosse, Tommy Bahamas kind of merchandise. went out to the third floor, did the same thing, started selecting, went into the fitter room, and they both came out with just one item. After they did the fitt room on the third floor, they came out, take a looking around, they selected like one item, went down to the second floor, selected like dresses, shirts, um, intimate stuff. Uh, went into the fitter room. Uh, when they came out of the fitter room, they came out with one item each. Again, >> the loss prevention employee knew the suspect's actions in great detail, clearly showing that the women's actions had been planned in advance, even down to how they concealed the merchandise. >> Uh, the third time it was when the they came out of the fitt room, went to select tops, pants, went into the fitt room again as well. Actually, only the one with the glasses right now. She came out with one item. >> Mhm. And after that they finished went downstairs. >> So they were they concealed stuff on every every floor. >> Every floor. >> Every floor and went to a fitting room on every floor. >> Yep. >> All right. That concludes the statement at 1331. >> The officer then approached the two female suspects who were calmer than expected. But it seemed they also did not expect the officer to show up. >> Hi there. Obviously you know why we're here. I'm going to talk to you guys one at a time. Just ask. We was told that we would not have a police time >> that police would not be involved. >> Well, then you got lied to cuz the police are here. So, I guess you can step out. Um, >> she doesn't speak any English. >> Huh? >> She doesn't speak English. >> You don't speak any English at all? >> Russian? Then I'll get a Russian translator on the phone. So, you can still wait out there. I'll call the uh translator line. >> Why they lie to us? >> What did they lie to you about? >> Said the police would not be involved. >> You still in two? Yeah. >> If so, then I'll just switch them. I'll talk to her first. Can you go out there and and and sit on that chair? You can tell her sit on the chair, please. I I When it comes to police involvement, it's not up to us. If they don't want the police involved, then they don't have to. But they called us. So now we're involved. Okay. Because you are detained and there's a a crime allegation, right? I have to read you >> your constitutional rights. >> I know. >> Oh, okay. I mean, it's obvious cuz there's cameras and and you're you're in a room already before I know, but so obviously shoplift, >> a lot of property. Lot a lot of property. Um, do you can you not afford it or do you guys have money? You have cash to pay for it? >> Okay. That you just want the items, >> you know, maybe to sell to somebody to get like 20, $30. I'm sorry. >> She admitted to what she had done and did not seem ashamed, saying this was not their first time. That attitude continued when police questioned her separately about what happened that day. Fair enough. I'm worried about today specifically. Where'd you put all the stuff in a in a bag? Did >> Okay. Empty bag. Came with empty bag. >> Okay. All All these 1,000 almost two grand worth of of stuff. Okay. Right. Okay. And you guys both in the in the dressing rooms together helping each other out? >> Yep. Okay. So, this is what happens from here. You are going to get arrested for shoplift and this number here is above felony. So, >> what's the felony? >> Felony is just a higher crime. So, there's misdemeanor and there's felonies. Okay. So, it's it's it's an arrest. You're going to go to jail today. Okay. And then you're going to have to talk to a judge. That's the question is why did you steal stuff that you didn't? >> Because we could not afford. But that that's not an excuse. So like just you you you did something wrong and >> these are the consequences >> are because >> on your butt. I will I will I'm get a translator. >> Okay. >> So I have to separate you guys just because I have to ask you both the same things. Of course you can translate for her but I need someone who's not you. >> Any way to get not to put us in in jail today? >> No way around that. That has to happen. Um okay. >> Because they trick us. They trick us. They ask us, you know, to be truthful. >> So, just hang tight now. Hold on. Let me >> After the first woman admitted what she had done, police quickly informed the other woman that she was under arrest. What stood out was that she seemed less concerned about the crime and more concerned about other [music] things she considered a priority. >> You are under arrest and you are going to jail. She is asking how long she's going to be in the jail. >> Um maybe the night, maybe the weekend. I I don't know. That's up to them depending on what their policies are on this is a felony. So >> she's saying that she needs to take her pills because she has diabetes. >> Okay. So, can you tell her that the jail has a pharmacy and nurses there? So, if you have any medical concerns, you address it with them. when you go to jail, especially a felony, a felony is a higher higher than a misdemeanor. So, I mean I mean, however you want to explain that, you can, but she's going to jail. >> Yeah. If she's asking if she pays the whole amount for this stuff, she she still she's going to the >> Yes. No. I tell her that you did a crime and then you need to >> Yeah. This and this is this isn't just >> the consequences, you know. >> Yeah. So the misdemeanor is a smaller crime. That's the one where she's trying to say if I'm not going to run away and I'll take the court date. But felony, >> this number here, $1,995 is how much she stole. >> So that's a felony. Okay. So we're going to take all that. All that's coming with you to the jail. That's it. Thank you. Appreciate it. In the end, the two women were charged with grand retail theft. Planning a theft does not make the consequences disappear. No matter how carefully the merchandise is concealed, surveillance and loss prevention can uncover the entire scheme. >> You have a receipt. Let me see. >> I have it right here. >> Wait, I ain't getting your hands off of me. >> You're a known shoplifter. >> Oh. On the 17th of December 2021, police received a report from Target about a serious theft involving three suspected shoplifterss. While officers waited outside for them, a store employee approached and revealed what was happening inside with the suspects. >> Hi. >> Okay, so we're just going to hang here. We do have three shoplifterss inside. Two black females, one black male. Um, she thinks they're getting ready to head up to the front. They're loading everything that they've selected into one cart. probably getting ready to head up to the front. Um, she's just going to let me know when they pass all points of sail and when they're headed out and she'll let me know which side they're going to. Right, Gabby? You'll let me know which side they're going to. >> Okay. Okay. All right. She thinks one of them might be coming out before the rest of them, so she'll let me know about that. But they're still loading up right now. >> I'm pretty sure she did. She came in, grabbed a cart, and headed straight down after. So, if all else fails, we can just identify them. Go from there. >> Y'all said that they did this yesterday as well. >> Yeah. And one of the women in here actually just left not too long ago. >> Um, but is it just you >> at the moment? >> At the moment, it's just one. >> Two more units coming. >> Two more units coming. Just one right now. >> Yeah. Yeah. I let them know there's three of them. >> So, >> she said they're coming up the back wall now. They're probably going to pop out soon, but she'll she'll let me know. >> Should we move Should we move over to the entrance or should we just stay here at the exit? She said um the first girl might come out by herself. Um so if she does to just let her kind of keep moving and try to pull her off to the side. Um, she's mostly concerned with the other with the other people. >> While they were talking, the male suspect pushed a cart filled with merchandise out of the store. His actions immediately seemed to indirectly confirm what the officers had been told. >> I got a receipt. >> You have a receipt? Let me see. >> I have it right here. Traffic 41. Got one running. Brown shoes, gray pants, blue t-shirt towards that corner. Just ran across Albicorn over by the northeast. He risked everything to run across the road in an attempt to escape. Worse, he found his vehicle and drove off, seemingly ignoring anything that stood in his way. >> All right, we're at I'm coming in parking lot. >> Charlie, Quebec Romeo 7472 >> coming out near Bank of America. All right. It's going to be a uh Volvo sedan twodoor drone by a black male. He's going out the uh crap. Yeah, he went out the uh side over there. I believe he headed back towards Abberorn. All right. I don't have sight. >> While officers pursued the man, another officer spotted the other people involved. The arrests were immediately underway. >> Hey, how you doing? >> You got ID on you? >> First name is Trayvon. >> Let's walk back up here. >> What? >> What? I ain't getting out with you. Get your hands off of me. >> You're a known shoplifter. >> Oh, >> give me your hand. >> Don't knock out with you. Don't give me >> Give me your hand. >> Don't drop that. >> Don't drop my phone. >> Stop trying to put my phone number 803 in color. It's going to be very light. It's not going to be a dark green. It's going to be a very light green. Almost silver looking. And it does have some damage looks like on the >> I can't remember which side. It was either by the by the headlight. I believe it was on the passenger side, but I'm not sure. It could have been on the driver's side. >> 42 suspect hit target yesterday with a fel. >> Traffic 41. I got one female detained. Looking back at the moment officers saw the man pushing the cart outside, it appeared the group may have planned to put the merchandise in his hands. That could explain why the woman who had nothing on her began to deny any involvement. >> Have a seat on the bench over there. >> Hey, why do we have what >> the property the cart full of stuff? Oh, yes. Right now, it's I have to guess it's Simon, but I don't know. I guess I'm watching. >> You have ID? >> You got away. >> Yeah, he ran across Aborn, came back, jumped in the car. >> What's your last name? >> My cell 108. >> Take him to jail. I'll be taking him to jail. >> Okay. So, you you'll just sit in jail until you are identified. Okay. >> So, you'll be booked under Jane Doe. >> Okay. >> You still want to see it done? >> Yes. >> Okay. >> Traffic 41 to 41 Alpha 2. >> Yeah. Go ahead. >> Whenever you're available, I need you inside the loss prevention. >> I'm heading that way now. Uh, give me just a minute. You can wait. I want to add this car. >> Temple. Bring your little toy. >> Yes. Just wanted to see if >> Just so you know, you're refusing to provide your information is another charge. It's called obstruction by hindering. >> It's called what? >> Obstruction by hindering. >> And what was that? >> It's you not providing me with your information that you are required by law to provide. >> Just take me to jail. >> What's your last name? [snorts] >> Simmons. >> Simmons. Spell that. >> You can't spell Simmons. How do you spell it? >> That's how I spell every week. >> Is it 1 M, two M's? >> Two M. >> 20 M's. >> 20 M. >> Police then spent considerable time trying to obtain information from the woman and run her name through the system. They quickly discovered why she had been reluctant to provide it. >> Oh, look. Shoplifting. That was why she didn't want to give me information. >> I got her social and all that stuff here too if you need it. >> Oh, and by the way, you do have a state issue driver's license or at least you did at one point. >> You want social. >> It should be attached to the warrant. >> Oh, it should be fine. I've got it here. >> 80074 874. >> Yes. Go ahead. That was from the other girl. She got away. I'm going to go ahead and search you. >> That's the same wall. >> No, that's two different. >> You don't have any weapons or something like that. >> Check and see if that orange shirt has any tags on it or anything. >> This shirt was in my pocket. >> It was in your pocket. >> I just ran all the way to Murphy's. >> I know because I was on the other side waiting for him. >> Literally just like this. I'm about to go to jail. I'll find you when I get there. >> In the end, the suspects face charges related to shoplifting with one female suspect also facing obstruction by hindering while the male suspect fled the scene before officers could detain him. Being part of a group does not automatically make someone guilty, but deliberate participation can still create criminal responsibility. And when the evidence is already building, running away can turn a difficult situation into an even bigger problem. >> Please, please let me go. I'm not going to please wait. Stop. I'm I'm >> Okay. What did you shop? >> I have I have makeup in my pocket. >> Did you pee yourself? I did. Yeah. >> On the 7th of September 2025, an officer responded to a report of a woman shoplifting at Walgreens. She was reportedly taking items out of their packaging and putting them in her pocket. Even after spotting the officer, she tried to get rid of the evidence by throwing it away. But the officer saw what she had done and immediately confronted her. >> What did you throw over there? >> Can you check for me? >> Do you guys have camera footage at all? >> Yeah. >> Yeah. All right. Where you going? It almost seemed like the woman had deliberately let the officer see her shoplifting. But strangely, the moment she ran for the door and the officer caught her, her attitude suddenly changed. >> Okay. Hey. Hey. Come over here. All right. Stop. Come over here. Come over here. No. No. Come over here. Please. Please let me go. I'm not going to Please. Please. Please. Please. Wait. Wait. Stop. >> I'm I'm being Wait. Hold on. Please. I'm telling on my hands right now. Please hold. Please. Please. Please. Please. Please. Give me. I'll I'll give you 1129 to Echo 226. Can you come up? I'm not in front of Walgreens 5,000. I got >> I will I will give you everything. >> Okay, come. We're not doing your >> I will give you everything that I have. >> I promise. >> I'm telling you. I will I will give you everything that I have. >> I just want to shop lifting for me. Tell them. >> I know. Wait. Wait. >> Okay. Drop that. >> Wait. Stay back. Stay back. >> I'm telling you. I'm going to give you >> echo 226. >> Okay. >> Put your hands behind your back. I'm not kidding right now. Put your hands behind your back. Hands behind your back. >> You're resisting. You want to catch another charge? >> Right now, you're being detained. I'm telling you right now, if you keep if you keep resisting, you're getting another charge. >> Sir, you're going to go back there and stop. >> After detaining 36-year-old Mia Alexa Richardson, the officer immediately searched her and found more stolen items hidden in her pockets. >> Did you put everything down? Do you have any weapons on you? >> No. Oh, I have a knife in my in my pocket. >> Do you have any on you? >> No. No, man. >> No, I have nothing right. I'm I'm so sorry. I really need >> I'm just really I would like to do anything, but >> And these mints are not >> They're mine. They're mine from >> You don't have any or anything that's going to poke me, right? >> No, ma'am. No, >> I don't know. No. >> Can you go over there? Appreciate it. >> And I say, "What are you doing?" Right. You're really shoplifting in front of me. >> I know. >> And then you say, "I need to put something down." And then you continue to disobey lawful orders when I tell you to stop that. Luckily, if my partner wasn't right here, we probably would have been on the ground or I would have tased you. No. >> What did you shop with? >> I have I have makeup in my pocket. During the conversation, the officer noticed that Mia's pants were wet, suggesting that she had lost control of her bladder while struggling with the officer. >> Did you pee yourself? >> Urinated on yourself? >> Yeah. No. >> Are you Are you on probation? >> No. >> Have you ever been arrested before? >> Like when I was like like 17 or 18? >> Okay. So, these are the only things. >> So, is that makeup item as well? The same BB something >> in in in my pocket. What would I have on me? And it's because I >> What are you reaching for in your waist? I'm >> trying to get in the backup that I have. >> This is okay >> because like I literally moved here and start over. >> I know. >> My whole life. And I'm so sorry that I did that and I'm like really I got really scared. >> You got really scared. I'm so sorry. >> So this and this and >> this and this. I'm so sorry. Yeah. >> What I'm saying? No. No. Whatever is I was leaving the bathroom and I started putting stuff in a waistband and then just tossing it. I literally just go through and then I was like, "Are you really shot in front of me?" And I sort of stopped walking and she starts walking. She was waiting for me in the car. So that's why I got on the wait for her to come out cuz I'm trying to grab her and she's actively pulling, bracing, pushing. >> The officer then returned the stolen items to the store as their total value was finally being determined. 24 15 20 33 is 47. >> The male if it's totaled over a 100 they want to >> charge her. If not, the male that's in that red tank top kept coming around the corner. Hold her to do something now. Hope you ain't got no >> Have a good day, sir. >> I'm ready to explain real quick. >> The woman was charged with criminal trespass to property and two counts [music] of resisting arrest. When a business asks you to leave, refusing to comply can turn a simple dispute into a criminal matter. Arguing with officers and continuing to resist can lead to additional charges. Well, because she was accused me of shoplifting. >> So, you take off and leave your kid. >> I'm Tylenol. So, I saw her selecting Minex. Absolutely. Um, turns out [music] the return is denied. >> On the 18th of January, 2026, officers received a report from Walmart about a woman who allegedly stole medication from the store and quickly fled. When they arrived, officers approached her friends who had been left behind at the scene to find out what had happened. with her friend because I straight up saw the horse take the Tylenol and the mucinex off the shelf and they took it to the service that's tried to return it to store two three times passing stuff between them. She's got a bag in her hand. Another friend has got at least two bags on her. Um I stopped a friend took off in the truck ride. Um, like I said, I don't I can't think this one right now, but at least three or two other drove. >> Where did she drive off? South. >> We were right here and we didn't see >> which way she went. A green truck, two door. Um, and had a bunch of crap in the back of the truck, like just bags and stuff. I didn't get a tag. She was at the end of this drive aisle six. >> Money from it. Or they dropped it. >> She got money from it. >> So, she did. That's what I'm asking. Money. Okay. >> Now, the other one didn't though. She was denied the return fraud, a return because it already been returned. >> Okay. >> And you're not y'all aren't doing anything now? >> Not with that one. >> Okay. So, you're just waiting on the other one to try to get Okay. Uh, among those left behind was confirmed to be one of her family members. Based on the information gathered during the investigation, officers located the vehicle matching the description. Surprisingly, she showed little shame and admitted to it. >> Yeah. >> How you doing? How are you? >> Can you roll that window down? >> So, Miss Powers, where's the medication you took from the store? >> I left it in the store and I have a receipt that I was going to where I had bought it coming to return it and they wouldn't return. >> Why did you take off? Well, because she's accused me of shoplifting. >> So, you take off and leave your kid? >> No, I went to the store. >> What store? >> That store right there. >> Okay. Where's your kid at? >> I went there. I mean, I don't know. >> You don't know? >> No, I went there to wait on them. And >> why why would you wait on your kid over here when your kids in the store? >> Well, because they're refusing to shop. >> Okay. Go ahead. Step out. >> I have a receipt. >> Okay. Step over here. Are you a diabetic? >> No. The person whose car is is >> person whose car it is cuz I see a needle right there. >> Person car. >> Okay. >> Whose car is it? >> Frankie. >> Frankie who? >> Johnson. >> Frankie. >> What kind of thought? Is he A or B? >> You don't know. >> Fleeing immediately after being accused of shoplifting raised another question. Did her actions suggest the accusation was true or did she have another reason for running? Officers also questioned her about it. >> They accuse you of shotless so you take off. Yeah. >> Why? >> Because I didn't want to go to jail. >> Well, how well Well, if you didn't shop live, how you going to go to jail? >> Okay, >> that everything's recorded. It's all on a camera. >> I'm saying that. >> Okay. So, if you didn't take anything when we get there next >> Okay. Well, like I said, when we get there, >> we look at the camera footage, we look at your receipt, and if it shows that you didn't take anything, why would you go to jail? Well, you know, honesty goes a long way, right? >> Why'd you son say you're homeless? >> Search. >> Medicine. Was it? We're at the car. Don't go over there. Just tell me. >> It's in um a sweatshirt. It's in the pocket. My back. No, it's in the pocket. >> Okay. Can you look in the pocket of the sweatshirt in there for the receipt? Black 602.5. >> Why' you Why did you change sweatshirts into the jacket? Is there only one pocket in this thing? There's not a receipt in here. >> You said mucinx and Tylenol, right? >> This is a receipt for Tylenol and something liquid gels. >> Don't start with a D. >> This is from November. >> Okay. Why would you carry medicine to the store from November? >> I just found it. >> I've been looking for it. >> So you carried >> stuff you found under the seat into the store. No contact with RP. >> So what were you trying to do? Turn >> the woman's story had several inconsistencies that were easy to notice. Even the officers recognized them and began pointing out the problems with her explanation. >> You got a lot a lot of plot holes here. >> I didn't go straight there. So I'm in trouble. >> Huh? >> I didn't go straight to customer service. I'm in trouble. >> No, you're in trouble because one, you ran cuz at the at the side of Oh, you're shoplifting. So you're trying to run from the cops. Okay. You're driving a vehicle with no insurance. I didn't know I didn't. >> Well, don't matter. You're you're the one operating it. Okay. You abandoned your child inside the store because you were too scared of the cops. Legality of it. We're We're going to find out. Especially since most of this receipt's unreadable. >> Can I just have a cigarette out of the door? >> Huh? >> In the door handle in the door handle. >> Hey, you want to >> call Chase? Have them go talk to the people now that we found her. for >> this is [snorts] >> so she's saying she walked in there with the medicine. >> This is the mother. >> So she's saying she walked in there with medicine with this receipt from November. >> Return the medicine but she went to the farm side to go service. >> Okay. if her actions were considered shoplifting. The fact that she allegedly involved her family member and then left them behind to flee also became a concern for the officers. >> They call they call and a 12-year-old steals or 5-year-old tries to steal, they'll call us. So, we're coming regardless. >> We were because we had an we had an unattended child that was abandoned at the store. We already called them because you weren't here. You left. You abandoned your child. >> I did not abandon my child. >> You did abandon your child. >> No, it would be it would be intentionally it would be intentionally leaving without them to try and avoid the police. >> So, you were trying to avoid the police. >> You even said as much not having a phone to call him instead of just grabbing him with you. Wh Why did you leave your child in the store? Why? But why did you leave? That's literate. Pick that up, please. If you were next to your child the entire time that you should have been like you should have been because he's 12 years old and you should have been able to use his phone. You shouldn't have left him at all. And then she's she's claiming that she brought the medicine in with her to return. Walked over to where it was on the aisle to make sure it's still the same medicine. >> Then walked then walked around the store and then went to try and exchange it and they told her no cuz it's medicine. And then she was when she was walking out, they she said that they accused her of stealing. So she bolted. She threw the she threw the medicine down. >> Meanwhile, another officer remained at the store and reviewed the security footage, making the story seem much clearer. >> So TJ Maxx bag, she comes up. She's going to return these two items. Tries to [music] attempt to return these two items, which was the mucinx and the Tylenol. So I saw her select the mucinx. Absolutely. Um, turns out the return is denied because the receipt she's using, those items had already been returned. >> Oh. >> But she puts those items back into her cart. We continue. >> Did you guys Sorry to interrupt. Did you guys get a copy of that receipt? Cuz she has multiple. >> Yeah. >> From my from my perspective, it looks like she tried to shop from this Walmart because she lives in Somerville. She don't want to She goes to that one. She don't want to get seen. >> She gets she gets caught. So she tries to abandon her son. >> You never abandon my son. >> You You did. You did. You did abandon your son by getting in your vehicle. Leaving coming back. I did not abandon. >> You got in your vehicle and left the property, drove somewhere else, leaving your son inside the store who's 12 years old by himself. >> Um All right. So in the story of things though, right, the return this first, >> she tries to to return the medicine, >> but she puts the medicine in the top part of the cart. We continue observation throughout the store. or I >> so she doesn't take she doesn't leave the medicine or anything. She puts it back in her thing. >> Yeah. Reseelects the medicine and then um so I'm not going to have the concealment, but I physically saw it with my eyeballs um on um a pet's aisle. Uh so they will go in my timeline of events, the pets aisle. >> In the end, the woman was charged with theft by shoplifting and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. She was also issued a no insurance citation. One bad decision can quickly lead to more problems. Trying to avoid the consequences can only make the situation worse, especially when others are left behind to deal with the aftermath. [music] >> All right. Yes, I am watching the video of her walking out of the store with some products. >> I mean, listen, it's just shoplifting and warrants. What about the stuff from uh >> 29 by number? >> I've never been in there. I've never bothe. >> After some questioning, officers confirmed her name was Cecilia Ruiz, who had multiple warrants. This appeared to be why she gave them a false name. I mean, listen, it's just shoplifting and warrants. Still more. It's not like you guys are in like serious trouble. We'll be back doing this tomorrow. believe that started with this or something else. Ain't nothing else. Maybe a little wake up call. Where you from? >> Cecilia Ruiz was charged with shoplifting and providing a false name to police. Lying to officers rarely makes a situation better when the evidence already points to you. Giving false information can only create more problems. >> Please, I'm feeling very pressured. Just give me two seconds. I don't know why where I'm standing makes me so uncomfortable. Can anyone else come, please? >> On the 26th of August, 2026, officers received a call from a liquor store reporting that a woman had left with $300 worth of merchandise without paying. Through their [snorts] investigation, officers located the suspect's home. Let's see how she reacted to this. >> Where exactly? Hello, Taylor. >> Hi, I'm Austin Marces with Crystal Lake. Just let you know where we're on camera. >> Go, go, go. So, obviously we talked on the phone. >> Yeah. I'm trying to put my daughter down and she's had a rough day. She's been sick. >> Okay. Well, what happened at Benny's today? You were kind of telling me on the phone. >> Yeah. I lost one of my bridesmaids. I lost a photographer. I'm getting married next weekend and everything is kind of going crazy right now. >> I feel like I was in the middle of trying to deal with this and a million things when you called me. Um, and I asked you to hold and she's screaming at me and then I'm keep getting call call. So, it seems a little aggressive and it's kind of sent me into like a panic kind of state. So, that's why I'm a little bit of freaking out and scared that my dogs >> are barking about pounding down on my door. >> Well, you knew I was trying to get a hold of you, so I just figured you were ghosting me. >> I I was trying to take care of my daughter who is going through an extreme sleep depression and very >> I get and I get that. Trust me. I have a four-year-old and had to deal with all that stuff. But what happened at Vinny's with those unpaid bottles? >> I he pointed out a bottle and I said, "Oh, I'm so sorry. I have I explained to him right then and there. I have a million things going on. I just lost a bridesmaid." >> And then he I put it on the counter and I paid for it. Like I paid for like what it was like four or five bottles all at the same time. >> You paid for two plus the one that was under your stroller. You have three more that you didn't pay for under your stroller. So why didn't you pay for those? Why didn't I or why don't I? >> Why didn't you? It's all on camera. >> Her story seemed to raise more questions for the officer. But what stood out was how calm she remained. That changed when the officer pointed out details she could no longer deny. >> Listen, hang on. Listen, >> Taylor on video that you got two bottles from the lock shelf that they brought over. Clear as day on video. And then they also saw the one that was in the stroller that you did pay for that obviously that was the guy had to mention that to you. There's also three other bottles that you left intentionally underneath the stroller. That is a Don Julio and Nah. >> It was not intentional. Don't >> Don Julio and Hale bottles of whistle pin. It was an accident. >> And I don't believe you one bit. I'm going to be I'm being honest with you. I just don't believe >> doing this. >> I do not have any priorities. You have two prior. That's why I don't believe you. I'm just being honest with you. Just being honest with you. You're being honest with me and I'm being honest with you, right? >> Well, I don't believe that I have any priors because I have two prior incidents at Beny's that they never reported to us, but they have two prior internal incidents with you. Okay. >> Okay. >> So, I'm just being honest with you. >> Okay. Well, I'm being honest that I don't believe that because this is not who I am. This is not what I do. >> That's fine. You could be honest and I like that. Thank you. >> No, it's not. I paid for that. They scanned it. They went behind the counter. >> This one you did not pay for. It's on receipt. >> I did pay for that one. >> The other No, there's You had um six total bottles that you paid for and then three are unaccounted. This Don Julio and they had only two bottles of whistle paint. >> They're the ones who handed that one. >> Although the woman still refused to accept the facts, the officers had to inform her of their decision, which caused her to begin panicking. >> Okay. So, um here's what I'm going to do. I am uh you're not free to leave. You're being detained obviously for an investigation here. So, you're um not going to go anywhere right now. Okay. Um you're either going to come with me to the police station or you're going to spend the weekend in jail or you're going to get released and be brought back. Okay? Or just get released from our police station. You're going to get charged with retail theft. Okay? Just being honest with you again. It's over $300, which is a felony amount. I have to call the state attorney's office and get approval to get a felony charge against you. So, I'm going to do all that right now. So, just to get that all taken care of. Okay, sound good. >> As I told you, I >> This wasn't intentionally. And I'm going to tell that >> I have a lot going on. He's being aggressive. >> I'm going to tell that all to the state's office that makes a decision whether to charge you with a felony or not. I can't make that decision. They have to make that decision. Okay. The fact that there's two prior incidents for the for the same for the same MO is why this is happening right now. Okay, you made a mistake today and you're going to deal with those consequences in court. Okay, as simple as to it. >> All right. >> And there's no option for I mean like I don't even have the receipt. I don't like to touch receipts. So there's not even an option just take >> no pass all that. Okay. So you're going to have to step out here and you're going to hang out with this officer until I make a call. I don't want to put you in handcuffs right now. I could do that and just take you straight to the police station. I could do that if you want and you there's a good chance that you could just be processed and released back today. >> Can you come back? >> I have to make a call. I don't get her to. >> I need some water. >> Take a breath. Okay. There's a good airflow right there. >> Come over here. >> We had a female officer that was here. >> She had to leave. She come on her way back. >> Suddenly, the woman's panic began to make things more difficult as her behavior appeared to delay the investigation from moving forward. >> Some good air flow. Help you breathe. Trust me, there's some airflow right where the officer standing. >> Hold on, please. I'm feeling very pressured. Just give me two seconds. I don't know why where I'm standing make that difference. Please, just >> Okay. Can I have you leave? >> Unfortunately, I can't. >> Unfortunately, >> okay, then I would like you to know that you are going to leave my premise once I am also out of it. I'm feeling so cornered right now. >> But we can't let you back. We can't let you back in the garage without >> sit on the front scoop. I'll sit on the front. In the front. >> She You want to lean against your car? >> Lean against your car. ones in the front. You want to take those or >> I want I'm going to take them to >> Okay. >> I don't know. Please just go do your thing and I will figure it out with my unit right here. Okay. Because I feel like this is the aggressive part of the situation. So, >> let's go. We'll go in that front door. >> Yeah. If you can just go in front. Thank you. >> You guys want to hang out? >> Stop screaming. >> Okay. The bond court is at like 1:30 in the afternoon, so you'll get phone calls from the county jail. Oh, please. >> So, Taylor, what I need you to do, though, >> I didn't do any of this. >> Wait, Taylor. >> Taylor, listen. >> I didn't do it. >> Taylor, listen. [laughter] >> Take a breath. Take the time recording. >> Can I have you please step back? I feel uncomfortable. He makes me feel uncomfortable. Okay, Taylor, we're taking this one step at a time. Okay, we got to get through this. You're going to get through this. You're going to get to your wedding this weekend. So, the first thing that we need to do is we're going to stand up and we're going to walk to his car and we're going to take this one step at a time. >> Suddenly, the offender became the one seeking comfort, but continuing like this only prolonged the process and prevented the arrest from moving forward. Even getting her into the police car became another struggle. >> So, I'm sorry we got off on the wrong foot. I don't feel good today. So, maybe that's why my demeanor is a little off and I'm very hot and uncomfortable. But, I'm not going to hurt you, okay? So, I I don't want you to get that feeling that I'm going to >> You make me very uncomfortable. Okay. I and and and that's fine, but I'm trying to explain to you. Okay. >> You've been sympathetic. It seems like you've been trying to >> I'm trying to explain I I'm trying to explain things situation >> and I like I told you I'm not feeling good today and I'm hot. I'm cranky and I apologies for how I reacted, but I'm just trying to get to the point here. This I've been on this too long. These officer have something going on, okay? Because we have a process we have to get through. So, you're going to sit in the back seat here. There's a KG me and you. There's cameras on. It's recording audio. It's recording video. Okay? And we're going to have a female in officer, me at the PD because I always have two officers with me. It's one's going to be a female. Okay? I'm just letting you know that I did what I had to do because I did my job and the state already made the decision, not me. I couldn't make that decision without the state's attorney. So, I'm letting you know that I reviewed video. I reviewed all the facts and that's just what it is right now. Right now, we're going to put you in handcuffs. You're going to go in the back of my car. Okay. >> I have to have the handcuffs or I'm not running away anywhere. >> You have to go in handcuffs. >> Policy. We have the same policy. >> Yeah. Unfortunately, I can't do anything about that cuz I have a job and I want to keep my job. Okay. >> You do it then. >> I have to turn around. >> Oh, I have to turn around. >> Yes. >> Okay. >> See, I mean, does the handcuffs have to go behind your back? >> I I can't I can't make that call. Okay. >> I know, but I can put them on you. So, here's honestly, the faster we get. >> It's so uncomfortable. He's trying to make it as comfortable as possible. No, I put we put we put everyone hands behind their back. >> In the end, the woman was charged with felony retail theft, two misdemeanor retail theft counts, and driving with a suspended license. She later pleaded guilty to one misdemeanor retail theft count while the remaining charges were dropped. Once officers have reviewed the evidence, delaying the process with excuses or repeated objections will not change what the evidence shows. >> I need You're touching me. You're touching me. That's assault. Assault. >> It's assault. Is it stop? >> I am for you. You want me rolling? You don't want knife. Why is that? >> Yes, you. >> On the 26th of April, 2024, officers received a call from a shopping mall reporting that two customers, a man and a woman, had threatened other people. Officers quickly responded to the scene, but they had no idea the situation had already begun to escalate into a tense confrontation. >> Come here, please. We're in the smoke and they're ignoring my plans to stop. Don't >> come here, please. >> No. >> What do you mean no? >> No. >> Please do not talk to them right now. I need to deal with them. >> Okay. >> You're not leaving. I need >> You're touching me. You're touching me. That's assault. It's not assault. >> It's a salt. >> It's assault. You're touching me. You're putting your hands on me. >> Whiskey person over here. They're refusing to stay where I'm at. And >> I got to pump. >> Nope. >> Yep. Stupid. I can follow you all day. >> No car. That's your dog. >> Yep. >> Are we? >> Yep. >> John the >> I'm going to get you. >> Thank God. I got lawsuit against y'all. You want to add to the lawsuit? You what? >> I already got a lawsuit against y'all. Keep acting. >> Oh, do you? Cool. Not against me. You don't >> against the police department though. >> Hey, don't call. We don't call somebody to verify a crime as well. >> You need a verification. >> They're running westbound towards the interstate. >> The two suspects kept walking away despite repeated commands from officers to stop. As one officer stayed close behind them, additional patrol units arrived just in time to cut off their path. And the situation quickly descended into chaos. >> Come on, man. Take right here. Right here. Here. Come here. I'm getting the left one, man. I'll take to man where my [ __ ] handcuff on. >> Just stop resisting. >> I'm not resisting. I'm trying to help your stupid ass. You want >> roll under your stomach. >> All right. Say, please roll on your stomach. If you move, I want to hit you in the neck, dog. >> Roll on your stomach. >> Your stomach's going to be dog pit. >> You understand me? >> Hey, if I call 911, you going to pop up, right? >> Roll onto your stomach. >> I see your face. >> Okay, I see your face. Roll onto your stomach. It don't matter. I can [ __ ] up anytime. You got to roll. How >> about roll? About to roll. >> Roll onto your stomach. >> If you get down, stop trying to break my arm. I ain't going to do [ __ ] >> If you stop or y'all break my [ __ ] and [ __ ] on your back >> cuz y'all ain't being nice. >> Hey, get the [ __ ] off me. >> Hold. >> All right. Here. >> Hey, bro. Don't grab my dick. Hey, guess what? >> I am. >> I'm dealing with you. [clears throat] >> All right. >> So, what's the problem onto your stomach? >> What's the problem? What I'm being detained for? >> What I've been arrested for? >> You are being detained for an investigation. >> What investigation? >> Something happened to the mall. I don't have to explain myself >> where I'm at. I'm at the mall. >> Nope. >> So, this part, right? Officers struggled to handcuff the man as he actively resisted, but he immediately denied resisting in an unreasonable manner, insisting that he had every right to act the way he did. >> Why? Well, you resisted for about 5 minutes. >> I didn't resisted. I had you pinned. >> I thought I would help you. >> No, that's not how this works. >> Yes, I did. >> I said you're detained. You pulled away. >> On your back, you pulled away. I had them in so and I was telling them to stop and they shut. He said no. >> Yeah, cuz y'all got no reason to touch me. So the fact that you touch >> cannot deter. >> Yes, I can. No, >> I'm a citizen. >> You're my first amendment. >> So you violated my first amendment, my fifth amendment. >> It's so I do. >> Shut up. You're just making yourself. >> Look at my record, fool. >> Why? You've been arrested. Then you should know that. >> Guess what? I know a lawyer. No, we're going. >> Yes. >> Meanwhile, another officer remained at the shopping mall to interview employees and gather statements about what the suspects had done before police arrived. >> The guy that was in the family restroom come out and basically told me business. >> Okay. >> So, you know, I'm like, "No, this is my business. I work here. I'm secure." >> Yeah. >> Yeah. But uh after after I got her to do the tag for the restroom for the lady. >> Yeah. >> Uh he comes out of the where both of them came out of the >> the girl and the guy. >> Okay. >> Yeah. He comes out of the family restroom and she came out of the nursery and that's when he said to her and to me that both of us >> would get popped. >> Get popped. Did he make any gestures like tort >> he was pointing his finger everybody? >> Okay. Cuz uh officer uh Hulcom was telling me sometimes he was reaching reaching toward his pants and reaching toward his bag. Right. >> Okay. But he at that time he was not. >> Yeah. This was after he went in the common area outside of the restrooms. He made motions to go towards his bag or his waistline. He did it all around South Pennies as they walked off site. >> Okay. >> They were on the golf cart and he kept making like a motion >> heard a movement. Okay. Um and she was saying Officer Hulk was saying they they've been here and done this before. >> So I I was here one day. Uh Carile came out. The guy, they came to our security door because a a scooter they apparently rode got an overnight parking citation on it and they were going to come here and us up. They came banging on the door. We followed them through the mall. They went out uh the east or east side of UF and Carl got them out there on 62nd. >> Carile comes to me and says by the bus stop, >> I'm just up from it, south of it. >> He said there's nothing I can do yada yada. And then I said, I mean, they clearly assaulted us. Look, >> every witness and employee gave consistent statements describing the couple's behavior. Meanwhile, the female suspect showed no remorse whatsoever, denying every allegation against her. >> Funny cuz I didn't do anything. I'm really like confused. I work at the mall. I work at Gohead. >> Let me let me explain it to you. But I need that clear to you before I explain it to you cuz you're going to ask questions and I'm going to ask questions. I'm going to go back and forth and sir, >> I need everything to be clear. So a situation happened at the mall. >> Pretty much as part of our investigation, we have the right to detain people who are part of that. >> So when the officer told comes up to you and says stop >> and you walk away, you walk in the snow co, you walk out of the snow co, you keep walking down the street, >> that gives us probable cause to arrest you for resisting without pilots. When you're given a lawful order to stop, you have to stop. What? No, >> I didn't know that, but I don't know. >> Okay. You don't. No one's ever told you if a police officer tells you to stop, you have to stop. >> If you're not guilty, no. >> So, you just get to determine that you didn't commit a crime? >> No, sir. >> So, we How do How do you >> Explain this to me. How do we investigate a crime if anybody can just walk away at any particular point? [clears throat] >> Exactly. So, we have to be able to detain someone to do that, right? Yes, sir. >> So, we have to be able to for physically force them to stop. Now, as I read your rights to you, you don't have to talk to us, but we have to be able to identify you, have witnesses identify you, and conduct an investigation in relative calm, which doesn't really work if you're walking away and and not following commands to do so. So, you understand all of it. Okay. So, basically, at any point, did anyone say anything about a gun inside the mall? >> Neither one of us. No. >> So, someone else said something about the gun? >> Yeah, but that's what I was like. He literally lost his name. >> In the end, the couple was charged with disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, and aggravated assault. When people believe they are above the rules, they often mistake lawful authority for oppression. Refusing to cooperate, escalating a confrontation, and dismissing the concerns of others rarely proves innocence. It only creates more victims and leads to far more serious consequences than the original incident. >> Quit fighting me. Not trying to be a jerk, but it's their policy. That's what we have to do. [music] >> I just need your shoes. >> That's all shoes. >> Shoes aren't naked. It's just kick the shoes off. Okay. >> On the 9th of February, 2026, police received a report of an intoxicated and unstable woman who had entered the back room of a gas station. Listen to the store employees account to better understand what happened. >> Yeah, she's still back there. She won't close in the room. >> Have you ever seen her before? >> I have no idea who she even is. He called me while I was at home and asked me to get up here. >> Okay. Um, she uh came out with a pair of scissors at one point and gave it to the worker. >> But I mean that's where we keep all our product at. She I mean she pushed our product out of the door. I mean she's just hanging out or something. I don't know what she's doing. She needs out though. >> Okay. >> Hello. >> She she's back here. >> That side room over there. Yeah. >> She didn't come out right here. >> She will not come out. >> Okay. It's locked. She said, >> "I think so." From the inside, >> the room where the woman was hiding was confirmed to be the store's storage room, meaning she could face a trespassing charge. At this point, she appeared to be ignoring the officer's repeated requests to come out. >> She's behind there. >> Hey, go ahead and move those water bottles to the police. I'll wait for another officer to come in here, too. >> Yeah, you might want to help. She's not She's not going out. barricade door. >> He got >> Hey, go and come out here and talk to me. >> Do we know your shoes? >> I have no clue. >> Yeah. And >> I I wasn't even in here. I was called at home to get up here. >> And she didn't leave because he door open. >> She's come out once. She's acted just like really oblivious to I mean just coming out like she owned the place and going right back in. >> Yeah. How long are we talking about? >> How long she been here? About 30 minutes. >> I'd say like she's in her mid. How long has she been here? >> We have no idea. >> I left here about 5:00 and there was nobody in the back room. >> Yeah. So, >> hey, can you here and talk to me real fast? >> Like, >> I'm starting people coming in here. >> So, you just like did this like pull her hood up like I was expecting to know who he was. >> She kind of like she's looking at you, but she's not. It's going straight through. >> Yeah. >> Something's up with her. >> You're not going to hurt anything by that door. Go ahead. Yeah, >> it's a product. That's all it is. >> She's pushing against one person, right? >> Yeah, but there's >> Hey, go and come out here and talk to us right now. >> Ma'am, I'm officer. What's your name? What is What is it? >> What's your name? >> Hey, Heather. >> You need to get up, Heather. Okay. Are you Is it Heather Perviance here? Come out here and talk to me, Heather. It's Officer Arnold. I talked to you the other day. IGA. Can you move this water bottle for me, please? The door was confirmed to be unlocked, but the woman was lying against it, making it difficult to open, and she was clearly not unconscious, as initially reported, suggesting that she was deliberately making things difficult. Heather, you coming out? Heather. Heather, we just want to talk to you. >> Heather, here's the deal. Either Either you can start helping us move stuff and come out of here on your own or we're going to have to start using force and it's not going to be fun. Heather, do you hear me? Go ahead and stand up for me. Get on the ground, Heather. Give me your hands. Give me your hand. Give me your hands right here. Quit biting me, Heather. Give me your hands. Quit biting me. Heather, get up. >> All right, come on. Come on. Get up. Yeah. Roll it over. around me. Make some room here. My cuffs fell out. I had them out and I put them back in. And I've got another set though. We'll find those in a minute. >> Although the woman remained still, her position made things difficult for the officers who still had to repeatedly question whether she was actually okay. >> Can you breathe? Are you okay? Heather, are you okay? You okay? We're doing this for doing this for your safety. Okay. It's for your safety. We can get that other arm. She's grabbing this one with this one. >> Trying to figure out which angles >> there. Yeah, there's just not many very many good ones in here. My keys again. [screaming] Found them. >> Yeah. Get those out of here. >> All right, Heather. We're going to have to stand up. You understand what we're saying? One, two, three. there. Austin, there should be a set of keys up there. Okay, >> I'm good. >> Heather, it's okay. We just didn't want to have to fight you to get you out of there. That's why we were trying to get you to come out on your own. Would have made things a lot easier for everybody, don't you think? >> The woman was eventually taken to the police station, and notably, there was no sign of remorse on her face. She'll have some questions and things for you. >> Are you ask I mean >> I I don't Yeah, he knows her history better than I do and she's not going to tell us a whole lot. I don't think so. >> We're not hiding anymore. Go sit over there in that chair for me. Okay. >> Have a seat or you can go sit in the max. >> The quicker you cooperate, the quicker. >> Oh, we could talk. Awesome. All right. Perfect. What's up? >> No, you can't have shoes back here. >> You got to you got to take shoes off. It's it's not anything against you. It's just policy. They have to. >> Period. >> Heather, we're not bargaining. You don't get to call the shots just because you're keeping your shoes. Take your shoes off and then we'll go from there. Not trying to be a jerk, but it's their policy. That's what we have to do. >> I just need your shoes. >> That's all shoes. Shoes aren't naked. It's just kick the shoes off. Okay. >> I can get you jail, but I [clears throat] have to take those. I'll keep those. >> Okay. Can we Can we do that? You You got to work with us if you want us to work with you. Okay. >> Heather was charged with criminal trespass and resisting an officer. Ignoring officers and refusing to leave can quickly turn a trespassing situation into additional charges. Cooperating with lawful instructions can prevent a tense encounter from escalating further. >> Under arrest right now for trespassing and obstruction >> obstruction of what? >> Obstruction of justice. >> But what about my rights? Do I have rights as a citizen? >> On the 5th of August 2023, officers approached a female customer after she allegedly refused to leave the business. The initial reason was reportedly that she had not received her refund. Let's find out what really happened according to her own account. >> Hello, ma'am. >> Hey. >> Hi. >> Hi. How's it going? >> What's your name? >> Sorry. >> What's your name? >> Hello, man. >> My name is >> Yes, I'm still here. >> Monster Christ Police Department. Business is closed. They want you to leave. >> They didn't give me my money back. So, >> we're not involved with that. >> They've said the company's already refunded you. They have I called my bank and that's what I'm trying to explain to her that they did not process a refund. >> That's fine. No, standing here is not going to do anything. >> I need my money back. That's not fair to me. >> That That's between you and you all. >> It has I just You just watched me. >> You sent me confirmation. >> I I can't do anything with that. Banks sometimes take processing time. >> It's my been issued to me. >> I can't make anything. >> It's not fair to me that I come in here to purchase something and they're withholding my money. >> That's fine. Again, that's between you that that's between you and the company civily to the store that I swiped my >> between you and the company civily. So, you need to leave or you will go to jail. >> I want my money back. Isn't that confident talking to you? >> I don't care. You can talk to me cuz I'm here. You need to leave or you're going to jail. >> Typically, card refunds can take several days for the bank to process. That's basic. But the woman seemingly refused to accept it even after it was explained to her. At this point, the officer made a decision. >> Please don't touch me. >> You're going to jail. >> Please do not touch. >> You're going to jail. Put your hands. >> Do not touch me. >> Put your hands behind your back. >> Please do not touch me. Why are you touching me? >> Stop. >> Stop resisting. >> I'm not resisting. Please stop. >> Put your hands behind your back. >> We all resist. Put your hands behind your back. >> Call. Give me your hands >> and stop. >> Please give me your hands, ma'am. I'm not scared, >> ma'am. Please put your hands behind your back. You're going to jail. >> I'm going to jail for what? I did nothing wrong. >> I did nothing wrong. Please stop. >> Put your hand behind your back. >> I did nothing wrong. Just let me go. >> Put your hand behind your back. >> I did nothing wrong. >> Put your hand behind your back. I got one. I did nothing wrong. >> Give me your other hand. I did nothing wrong. >> All I'm asking is for my money back. Let me grab my phone. >> You don't get your phone in jail. You don't get it now. >> What [snorts] started as a simple request to leave ended with the woman facing an additional charge of resisting an officer without violence, a firstdegree misdemeanor that could carry up to one year in jail. But at this point, she seemed to have little concern about the consequences. This This is so not fair. >> Like, I have no children at home, too. Like, what do you want me to do? >> I want you. >> I have no family here. >> Get back. There you go. >> Can I at least hold my phone, please? >> No. >> All right. You're going to come with me now. We're going to go to the park. >> Can I just have >> We're going to go have a seat in the car now. Ma'am, >> I need to make sure that my kids are going to >> We're going to handle that, but right now you need to have a seat in the car. This is still not there. >> Yeah. >> All right. >> This is so unfair. I came down here to get my stuff together so I can move. >> So, please stop pulling from us. This will go a lot smoother if you just listen to us. >> This happens all the time. >> Let me check these cuffs. Make sure that money we don't get involved with. >> But they're refusing to give me my money back. >> Please have a seat. >> What is my reason for being detained? >> Well, you're under arrest right now for trespassing and obstruction. >> Obstruction of what? >> Obstruction of justice. Temporal. >> But what about my rights? Do I not have rights as a citizen? >> You do have rights. You have all the rights, but you don't have a right to stay in your business. >> They took my money and wouldn't give it back. They didn't give me a receipt. They didn't send me an email until you guys got here. I came down here with >> But it's not okay. I'm just here to >> After successfully taking the suspect into custody, the officers spoke with the employees and the story behind the refund gradually became clearer. >> Let's keep it here. But she just clamped up and didn't want to. She didn't want to talk at all at first. And then I said, "Listen, I know you got a baby. Most of the stuff you're buying are baby stuff and home stuff. You're going through some hard times. You moved over here from Pokei." And she just nodded her ass, said, and then she meant, "Yeah." And then I said, "How'd you do it? What? Why did you change?" And that's when she told me I was using a code. I said, "So, walk me through it." And then she said, "Why do you want me to walk you through it?" >> You told him all this in your tape statement, right? All this came out in your tape statement. No, not that. >> Well, you can just go ahead and bookmark that now. >> Yeah, go ahead and mark it if you're listening to it. >> It's more for us. >> Yeah, no problem. >> So, go ahead. >> So, I told her I I asked her why were you doing it and she didn't want to talk and I said, "I know you moved from Pokei down here with your baby. You're by yourself. I know you're struggling." And she nodded her head yes. I said, "So, tell me, how did you process it through the selfch checkout?" I And she said she used the number. I said, "What number did you use?" And she said, "There was a number posted on the wall that I was using." I said, "So, walk me through the procedure." And she said, "Why do I have to walk you through it? I don't want to talk anymore." And and I said, "I'm going to call my ride. I want to leave." I said, "Well, I can't hold you." And that's when she stood up and left. >> So, do we know where she lives at? Does she have an actual address there? >> That's the address she gave me. And once again, >> the woman was then taken to the police station, seemingly still unaware that her actions had led to criminal charges. >> When he came in, he was coming in. He was coming in when she was going to work or whatever cuz he talked to her. >> I ain't pointing her out. I ain't talking about. >> So you didn't point her out or anything? Cuz he said one employee pointed cuz I was like, "Well, how'd you know it was her?" He's like, "Oh, when I came in, this is what time she was supposed to work." And then one of the employees said, "You know, this is her." >> No, when he came in, he he looked at her on camera from the report that was showing that she changed it. And when he looked at her, he called me in and he asked me, "Who is this?" He asked me, "Who is that?" And I told him her name. >> Okay. >> Yeah, >> that's that's the same thing. He didn't point her out, but you you confirmed. >> In the end, 27-year-old Downer was charged with trespass after warning and resisting an officer without violence. [snorts] Once you are lawfully told to leave a business, refusing to comply can turn a simple dispute into a criminal case. Arguing over a refund may not change the situation, but resisting an officer can make it even more serious. >> Shampoo and conditioner. >> Okay. Where's the shampoo and conditioner now? >> Right here. >> Right where? >> On my back. >> Okay. You know that that's not allowed, right? >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> On the 29th of April 2025, police received a report from a retail store about a woman using merchandise inside the store without any apparent intention of paying. When officers approached her, it quickly became clear that she was not in a stable state. >> They contact you before. >> Yeah, cuz I was sitting waiting. >> That's why I haven't seen you. I've been sick. >> Wait, so you've been waiting for 6 hours? >> Yeah. Okay. Where you coming from? I live in Oh, I was at um I don't have a phone right now. That's why I'm like waiting. But my friend is picking me up at She >> What when did you make those arrangements earlier today or that she was coming at 8? >> Yeah. Yeah. >> Okay. Um I guess my my concern is that um is there anything that you've been taking in the store or that you haven't? No. >> Coming inside. >> Have you have you consumed anything in the store? Taken anything without paying for it or anything else like that? No. So if I were to watch the video cameras because there's video cameras on every aisle in the store show that you >> didn't take anything like food wise eating anything >> sure >> what you got there >> car you have a book bag >> okay >> she could not give a straight answer to the accusation but still nodded in agreement even the bag of cashews in her hand appeared to have been opened and consumed leaving the officer wondering whether she had intended to pay for it in the first place. >> Do you have money to pay for it? >> Yes. >> Okay. >> Was your plan to pay for those cashews or what was your what was going on next? >> My wallet. >> Please stand. So, I went to get my wallet. >> Okay. So, you were here. You were eating the cashews here. You left and came back. >> Mhm. Okay. >> Yeah. >> Anything take anything else? >> Just the cashews. >> Yeah. >> Any luck on those firearms checks? >> Do you have a driver's license or ID at all? >> Um, I don't think I have. I I might have. It's expired. But >> but according to the store's report, the woman had taken more than just the bag of cashews. So the officer gave her one more chance to be honest. >> So >> So [snorts] I'm going to give you one opportunity to be honest with us. Okay. Um there's cameras inside. As you can tell, they're like down every single aisle. All right. Did you take something inside that you shouldn't have taken not pay for it? >> It's either it's a yes or a no. You either had money on you and you paid for an item that was inside of the store or you took an item and didn't pay for it. >> Okay, then. Yeah. >> Yeah. What? >> I didn't pay for it. >> Okay. What did you take? >> Um just um shampoo and conditioner. >> Okay. Where is the shampoo and conditioner now? >> Right here. Right. Where? >> Oh my god. >> Okay. You know that that's not allowed, right? Yeah. >> Okay. If you want something, you have to pay for it. How old are you? >> I'm old enough. >> You're old enough to know right from wrong, right? >> Okay. Do you not have money on you? >> No, I don't. I just got out of >> Okay. All right. What else did you take? >> Nothing. >> Do you have any warrants out for your arrest? Run her. Um, who's taking us? You. >> Yeah. The woman finally admitted the truth. Police then arrested her and recovered the stolen merchandise. >> Wait. >> Yeah. >> Wait. Am I going to >> get arrested? >> Where am I going? >> You're going to go to the police station right now. Okay. >> My We're going to figure all that out in a minute. Take your backpack off, please. >> Put your hands behind your back. We'll figure all that out in a minute. All right. >> You have to be able to call her. I'm going to get out here. >> Listen to me. I promise you that I'm not gonna let you get stuck out here. I don't want you to in this town. >> 93 Mark 100. >> Oh, I'm sorry. You okay? I'm sorry about that. >> What's up So, I'm going to say this is >> this is this is still got the plastic on it. >> We could we could scan this stuff too. You mind if I let her out? Um yeah, just tell her that it's only >> the search uncovered even more unpaid merchandise than she had admitted to, including items that did not come from CVS, raising further suspicion that she could be a serial shoplifter. >> These are these are brand new, but not saying from uh from CVS. It doesn't matter. >> We're going to be going through all these bags. Every one of these bags, but I would say there's a bar code on it. More than likely it's that's by myself. Okay. 1 2 3 7 Can you open it? There's >> no barcode on it. But what is it? I >> don't see any barcode. It's a moisturizer. That's going to bunch of nail polishes. Chapsticks. I would say any >> Yeah, all seems like the same stuff. CVS man's the rest of this. We get a >> So, I'll go I'll go take care of that. Finally, the woman was charged with theft. Being honest early can prevent a situation from becoming even more complicated. When the evidence reveals more than what was admitted, the consequences can quickly escalate. >> Ma'am, you're being detained. >> I'm working. >> Look, look. Let me see. Look at my car. >> Come on. Sir, sorry. I got stuck. Let me show you something. >> On the 23rd of February 2025, police received a report of a theft at Walmart. The suspect was reportedly fleeing the scene, but officers quickly located her and the situation immediately began to escalate. >> What happened? The lady with the rash wrestle was not >> Come on. COME OVER HERE WITH ME. >> OKAY. BUT WAIT, can I put the mail in? >> Yeah. Yeah. Put it on top of the car. Just don't go in the car, man. >> I just got Ma'am, you're ma'am. It's okay. >> Look at my stomach. >> Ma'am, >> look at my stomach. >> Look at my sir. Wait. >> Wait. >> Stand up. Sir, >> give me a second. Look. Ma'am, >> I have surgery. >> Oh god. surgery. >> Her actions had already led to a resisting arrest charge, something she seemed unaware of. Still convinced she was innocent, she denied every accusation despite the officer repeatedly trying to explain the situation. >> We don't want >> I understand that I asked you to stop. I asked you to get out of the vehicle. >> And you attempted to get in the vehicle and take off from me. >> No, I did not. I attempted to get in the vehicle. >> You're going to tell me. No worries. This is okay. Can I show you? >> I tried I tried to tell you again. >> I tried to show you something. >> Very nice. >> Can I show you something? >> Hotel Alpha. >> Can I grab >> last name? Travis. >> How you doing? Romeo Alpha. Victor. My coworker. >> That's not mine. That's my coworker. It's okay. Brand new weapons. All right. Listen, do you have anything to stick to me? You hurt me in any way? >> No. >> Okay. >> Can I just ask you something? >> You okay? >> Yeah. You okay? >> We're fine. >> Ma'am, you're good. >> Yeah. I just was Can I show you now? >> Cuz I got the cuffs on. >> You want to tell? >> Look. Look. >> I just had I got staples here. >> Got to put it back up. But it's so bad when you try to reach or something. >> But I wasn't really playing. >> Okay. >> All right. Just give me a stand. >> Yes. >> Face the car for me. Stand up straight. >> Okay. >> Come over here. We'll get you over to the back. Okay. That way you can stand up straight. >> I want to get I just want to Can you walk me through the front door? Just walk me. Just stay here. >> Does she have anything on the person? >> Complete a search. We'll do one thing at a time. At this point, the officer returned to the original reason for the stop. She continued denying the allegations, but her explanations were becoming increasingly hard to believe. >> You don't have to. >> You don't have to. >> You don't need your medication. >> My ex-wife is dead. Her name is Ernestine Embass. >> Yes. She passed away. >> You can do Walmart. Figure out what she took. Okay. So, ma'am, >> listen. First of all, >> you're accused of shoplifting from Walmart. Okay. Did you take anything without paying for it? >> No, sir. Okay. >> No sir. Change s. >> Listen. You have the right to silent. Anything you say you do could be held against you before law. You have a right to an attorney. If you can't afford any attorney can be presented to you by the court. Do you understand your rights? I just read them down. >> All right. >> Yes, I do. >> Did she obstruct your >> I did. >> Okay. Listen. At this point, >> I wasn't trying to I was trying to show I was trying to show you my surgery. I got staples. >> I walked all the way around the car, right? And then you tried to run to get into the car. >> No, I tried to run. to open the door because it wasn't opening. So, I wouldn't have did that. I wouldn't have did that. I swear to you, I wouldn't get out of the car. >> You can look in the car, sir. And then you had to pull you out, right? >> No. In the front seat. Yes. >> Okay. So, you said that you took a large shopping cart full of stuff from the store without paying. >> I never even left the store. Where? Can you please check the trunk? >> I hope you left the store cuz otherwise you'd still be in there. So, you definitely left the store sometime. >> Oh, yeah. But with nothing. Look in the trunk. >> Okay. >> I don't have anything. >> The shopping cart full of items. Did you leave that outside in the parking lot? >> No. >> Okay. Where did you leave that? >> Right there at the door because I had to come back cuz to the girl Michelle Teller, which is my coworker, she she was coming in. The dog was in the car. You can't leave a animal. >> I can't believe they take a deep breath. Take a deep breath. >> What happened? Did they tell you did they tell you to stop and leave the items? >> No. I left the items when I was walking out the, you know, the double doors. And she said, "Wait, what? You stole that stuff?" I said, "How? I never even left the store." I said, "The receipt that they have is from Garfield." >> To deny her resistance, she began offering reasons that seemed more like excuses made up on the spot. The more she explained, the clearer her defiant attitude became. >> Um, >> you can say, >> "I'm looking for my if you can look and >> your driver's license." >> Look, look in that wallet. >> Just stay here. Sit on the car for me. Okay. >> Okay. Yeah. I'm not going to move. It's a It should be a phone in there. So sorry. A phone. >> Claudia. >> Oh, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. Those was the clients. One word. >> One word. >> All right. >> And your date of birth? According to [snorts] the report, the woman had not actually left the store with any merchandise, but she did pass the final point of sale without paying for anything. That violated the store's policy. Yet, that was not what concerned her most at this moment. >> This is what, by the way, >> go ahead. >> And who bought the car? Who bought the car? >> I did. I sent somebody because I couldn't drive because I had my um I had to I had to send >> I had to send um my paperwork in for a new registration. So, and it was snowing. I can't drive in the snow. >> Those plates came with the car? >> Yes. Yes, they did. >> Okay. >> And they came with the car. They You listen 60 days. >> Say that again. >> They gave me 60 days. Um, we're going to have either animal control or the Humane Animal Society uh take custody of the dog right now. >> Can Can do that. I'm Can I >> It's not going to be doesn't mean that we're keeping the dog from you or anything like that. It just means the dog is going to be held safely. If one of those two I already called it. So, it's it's your personal background. >> Cancer. >> All right. >> What started as a simple theft investigation was becoming much more complicated. Yet, the woman still showed no sense of guilt. Instead, she began innocently asking questions that seem to lead nowhere. >> And you're under arrest for shopping. >> But are they keeping me? They sending me to jail when when I'm on under arrest. Right. >> What What happens? >> We We went We'll take you back, ma'am. We're going to take you back to headquarters. Our headquarters and we'll get that sorted out. Okay. >> What? I go to jail, prison. Uh, well, as of right now, we're not doing any of that. So, we just got to go back to headquarters. We got to take care of you, get you processed. Okay. >> All right. Cuz I didn't God knows I didn't do nothing. >> Well, we have you on camera. So, >> Okay. >> Okay. But I didn't leave out no store with anything, and I stopped. >> In the end, Tanisha Travis Sims was charged with shoplifting, obstructing the administration of law, resisting arrest, and possession of stolen credit cards. Denying the facts does not make the consequences disappear. When officers are trying to explain the situation, resisting or refusing to cooperate can turn a simple investigation into much more serious charges. >> Take me to jail. >> For what? Now please on the 28th of August 2025, police officers approached a man named Richard at a grocery store after receiving reports that he was causing a disturbance by repeatedly yelling and pouring milk on himself and others. He appeared to be in an unstable mental state, so officers immediately took action to control the situation. >> What's going on? in jail. >> For what? >> Helping. >> I got him. I got >> We got one screw. >> It might still blow up. >> I don't know. I'm not really in control. Go grab your hobble. >> God damn. >> What are you doing? Yes, sir. You hit me. Go ahead. I love you. We were out with them last night. >> The officers successfully detained the man, but he showed no signs of stopping. He continued making aggressive remarks and unintentionally admitted that he had used multiple types of drugs. Needle in my back, dog. >> Richard, >> you did. >> You did, mother. >> Richard, nobody has a needle. >> Okay. All right. >> What did you take? >> Bunch of little bit of acid, a little bit molly, some coke. God damn. I did a whole freaking cocaine. You do that one more time. >> Nobody's cooking. Move your legs. >> I'm stopping doing that. >> Pushing into my [ __ ] leg. >> Immediately afterward, the man's embarrassing behavior continued. That's the only one I saw him with in his hands. I don't know if he had another one. >> Someone said whoever called in and said he was pouring it on himself. >> He on himself all like throwing it like >> So, was it more than one ball? Is it all just a half gallon? >> Are they all the same price? It's a one half gallon of milk was what he was pouring. >> There's only one. I didn't destroy anything else. >> We did a walk. >> No, just put milk everywhere. >> That's enough. >> I want to say y'all's turn around time was real quick. >> We were actually like I saw here and then next thing I know. >> Next thing I know, I had like six of you guys like here. I was like, "All right. Thank you. Thank you. >> You're welcome. >> Um, so you just saw him? >> Yeah, it was literally right at the same section right before you went. >> So, literally seconds before we got here. >> All right, cool. I don't think I should have to get a statement from him. >> It did not stop there. A person close to the suspect also arrived at the scene and her statement further confirmed the man's unstable condition. >> I know her. >> Hold on. What happened? >> He's not It's not that. He went in there and started showing his ass. He poured milk all over himself. He's throwing [ __ ] everywhere. >> What did he tell you? >> Stay crafted. >> Yeah. I don't I don't know what happened whenever they first got into the store with him, but he's not been compliant. He's been pretty uh not right now. Medical has to talk to him. Okay. When officers returned to the suspect, he continued banging inside the patrol vehicle and spitting everywhere, causing the officers to once again face a tense situation as they tried to figure out how to deal with him. >> Look at that. Oh, look at that. >> Look, this knock it off. >> Come on up now. Hit the switch. >> 56. We'll have another charger battery on it. Put the shirt over his head so he can't spit anybody's face again. Hey, you know what? Park it. Yes, sir. Find your change and get some a little bit. >> All right. Ready? Yes sir. You are the president. OH YEAH. IT'S BURNING. I HOPE IT >> I load that crazy. >> The man was charged with disorderly conduct and criminal mischief for causing a disturbance and damaging store property. This incident shows that refusing to cooperate and allowing emotions or substance use to control your actions can quickly turn a minor situation into serious legal consequences. >> There's a witness that said I didn't say that. >> Did you trash the store? >> No. >> Who's trashed? >> Who trashed the store? >> Me for the ground. >> Get the off. >> On the 24th of July 2025, police received a call reporting a familiar woman suspected of stealing at the store. But this time it wasn't theft. It was an alleged act of disruption. Her boyfriend joined in leading officers to arrest him as well. >> He just called in the pop. >> Hey, take your hands out of your pockets. >> Security's right here, brother. >> Stay right there. >> Security's right here, though, brother. >> If it was really a problem, bro would have grabbed me. I for watch your knee for a second. >> I'm trusting. >> She's uh over there walking away. >> Uh, okay. have him uh stop the female who's walking out towards 19th toward the post office. >> According to the camera footage, the woman was actually the one who intentionally damaged the store's property, leaving the man to deal with the situation while she walked away. Let's see how she reacts when officers find her. >> You have the phone after you leave. Okay, >> I can be on the phone. >> Okay, why don't you put the phone down? >> Hold on. You're not under this. >> Why the are you talking are you detaining me for? >> Get on the ground. >> Get the off. [screaming] >> Hey, relax. Relax. Relax. Relax. [screaming] Stop. Relax. Stop resisting. Stop resisting. [screaming] Stop resisting. All right. I can't breathe though. >> What [laughter] the [ __ ] Why the [ __ ] YOU ON YOUR KNEE AND MYING BACK? >> TO better understand what happened, the store manager who witnessed the entire incident provided a detailed account of the events. >> She's throwing uh merchandise off and stuff and then he comes in. Then uh some customer started blurting. I think it was these these guys um saying something about why don't you have them arrested or something and that's when he started like pointing and shouting at her uh saying you're going to die too and like that was about >> so she made the comments about bringing somebody over here to you guys up because you guys are telling them to leave because they shoplift. >> Yes. >> Is that right? >> Yes. >> And she's the one who causes the disturbance by knocking stuff off your shelves. When I got to the doors when he wanted to go after me, reaching his back out and pants like he had a gun. I'll kill you. The same thing with the the blonde older woman that was next to me. >> Okay. >> Okay. You little [ __ ] [ __ ] I'll kill you, too. >> He said that. >> Yeah. Or she said that. >> No, he said that. I I barely saw her. I I heard the noise and then we were kind of following behind them. >> He directed her threat to me and him to shoot. >> So, the guy back here is just he's a he's a loudmouth and would have went to town if there wasn't any authority here. He would have started swinging on whoever without him. >> If I'm not being arrested, then why do you have the cust on? >> Cuz you're being detained and you wouldn't listen to us before and you start tensing up and you get into my face like you want to attack me. >> I wasn't in your face. >> Yeah, you were. >> Just you know, everything's being audio visually recorded. Okay. >> Came to my bubble. >> Okay. >> Based on the store's account and the evidence provided, police reached their conclusion. >> Show the ID. Please, sir. I don't want to go to jail, sir. Please. >> This guy's telling me that you threatened to him and you were waiting for him outside. >> No, I was not. That's what he said. >> Girl, sir, >> that's what you That's what he said. You said >> no, I did not ask the security guard. >> I did. >> But then I then I talked to somebody else. >> The security guard, he knows I was not going to Sir, he seen me walk away calmly before, sir. They always [ __ ] with me. So, I was so I don't have this. Okay. It doesn't mean >> Said I'm a mouth. >> Is there audio on the on the on the footage? >> No, there's not. >> That never came out of my mouth. >> Right now, you're you're under arrest for misdemeanor threats. >> How was that a threat though? Well, he said you did. Close the door. >> Close this door. >> What? >> Hey, >> he's the one who have his uh knee on my back. I couldn't evening breathe. >> Okay. Can you just calm down? >> No. Like I'm >> So apparently Okay. Well, there's nothing that you can do. >> Are you her mom? >> I'm her cousin >> because Okay. Apparently, she was in there making threats to security, throwing items around the store. >> So, she's under arrest right now for uh misdemeanor threats and disorderly conduct >> because they'reing pricey. >> Where's um where's Gary? over there. >> So there there is like a particular people that come in here and they do this to her every day. So it probably was like a ticky thing like no, you shouldn't have acted the way that you acted. But it's annoying when someone just harassed for no reason. >> Yeah. I don't really know like you don't do that. It's not going to help your situation. >> Annoying. >> I don't know the whole the story that happened over there. >> I guess he came in she came in the store and he said you better purchase everything that you do. But there's like another older lady that did it. and I had to go back in and show my receipt with my [ __ ] like they do it all the time. Their co-workers know they do it. They harass people, but it's like >> frustrating. Yeah, you should have handled the situation way differently. >> There's no reason for you to act like that. But >> it's it's irritating. >> After everything, police decided not to arrest either of them. Both were permanently banned from the store, but what stands out is their attitude throughout the incident. >> Okay, but now you just proved everything for no reason. So, you weren't doing anything wrong. They know you weren't doing anything wrong, but now you're going to jail for the whole opposite reason of why. What? What if there was no reason for it? >> And you're going to get something on your record for no reason. >> The 22-year-old boyfriend was charged with a misdemeanor for harassment. But instead of being transported to jail, he was simply handed a court date, a formal trespass notice, and released right at the scene. >> It's a criminal offense. You don't show up for this court hearing. A warrant's going to get issued for your arrest. And the next time I talk to you, I'm not going to have a choice, but we're just going to go straight. Do you have any questions, ma'am? >> No, I don't think she does. >> Should I get my phone? >> Okay. Well, let's go. >> You answer that. >> You're acting silly. Let's go. >> Like, I can sleep for what? That >> mean like be quiet and let's go. >> Okay. You're asking me question. >> The man was charged with misdemeanor harassment while the woman was charged with misdemeanor disorderly conduct. Even when you believe you are being treated unfairly, escalating the situation can create serious consequences. Staying calm and cooperating may keep a confrontation from turning into criminal charges. >> Put them right where you can see it. Put them right here on this car. >> Just a few stakes. >> On the 5th of March 2026, officers moved to detain a group of suspected shoplifterss who had fled from Walmart. The suspects appeared to have split up and escaped in different directions, suggesting they may have been acting together. Here's what happened next. Where's the other male at? >> You know where is there one in the other? Is there another one in the car? >> I can't see that black. >> Yeah. I can't see. I can't see. I can't see in this back window. >> Back window. >> I can't either. >> I can't see in it at all. I can see through the windshield. >> Oh yeah, he's in that back. >> Step out. Step out now. Now. >> Let me see your hands. Keep them right where you can see it. Put them right here on this car. Have me your hands back here. >> When you know we're around the car, why ain't you going to step out, dude? >> Huh? >> When you know we're around the car, why don't you step out on your own? >> You just going to try to hide? >> Okay. You got anything on you? >> No, sir. >> The man [snorts] outside the vehicle appeared more cooperative. After being handcuffed, he began telling officers his side of the story. >> Yeah, he I thought he paid for some stuff, >> right? >> I pushed it out. I not going to lie to you. I got No, I appreciate that. You thought he paid for it? Yes, >> sir. >> And then you pushed out and then what? >> Then the lady start uh she stopped me and wanted to talk about merchandise. >> Is this all y'all took out of there, man? >> No, he already had that. >> Yes, sir. >> What? >> What was it though? You said you pushed it out. What was it? >> I think he grabbed like some steaks and [ __ ] >> Okay, >> sir. I ain't even going to lie. I appreciate it. >> All right, hear me out for just a second. Okay. >> It turned out the man was trying to shift all the blame onto the other person, but he clearly knew something about the incident as unpaid merchandise was found inside the vehicle he had been sitting in. >> Oh, yeah. Here's a bunch of stuff in this trash can, too. >> And more clippers. Imagine that. So, those are probably stolen, too. Just a few stakes. I'll put these that clippers with these clippers. >> Yeah, I think that's everything, but it's just a guess. There's really not much in the car except like a pair of shorts and I didn't see tags on them. So, he either ripped them off already or those are his. It was the hoodie. I didn't see tags. Huh. Is there another black guy? >> Nope. >> No, he the one we got in my car. Yes. I'm sorry. >> Yeah, we just >> we did get one with a Georgia hat. >> More than likely. >> Oh, and he was locked up in that seat. Like just But those windows are black. >> Just had the bag ripped off of recently. >> He was sitting in the back seat. Windows are so dark you can't see in it. When I started looking through the front, he was like, "I'm in here." Hang on one second. He may have changed. No, I got gray shorts, gray t-shirt, and black slides. >> Soon after, a Walmart employee arrived at the scene and revealed what she had witnessed. >> But I did recover merchandise. So when they pushed out, I recovered a tote >> full of stakes and everything else. Um, he wants to admit to doing this today. I can also it saved me the time, but I'm sure I have it on video if it's from >> But our concern is Okay. Are you saying this happened just now or was this maybe earlier today? >> Tell you whether this happened today, yesterday like I don't know when this but I do have 496. I imagine he did this earlier today. So probably got lucky one two times. >> I'm sorry, Hower. This is yours. My bad. So >> yeah, I mean we're just trying to get all our paperwork together. >> For what I have him stopped on right now is $490 something dollars. So >> for stuff that you've already recovered >> recovered. Yeah. >> Did he make it out the door with that other stuff or? >> Yes. That's why I made the approach and I stopped him and recovered the >> I got you. Okay. >> Um I'm not >> Yeah, we walked out. So you can't see in these windows. Hello. >> Back with the suspect, a loss prevention employee had a few final words before he was taken to the police station. These were reportedly the store's final decisions regarding the incident. >> Kevin, my name's Jesse. I work with >> Hey, you know I ain't stolen out that store, man. >> Hey, she's going to talk to you. Okay, >> we're not here to have a discussion. She's just going to talk to you. >> I saw you make selections. >> Did you see me walk out? >> Stop the conversation there. But I am going to let you know you're you're trespassing the property. You can you're not welcome to any Walmart property at all. Okay. But you you just lied. Say I walked out that store with something. I s I bought me a drunk and left. >> No, sir. Um, but you are on your camera, please. >> No, sir. You are trespassed from the property. This is me verbally telling you you're not allowed at any Walmart store at all. Doesn't matter what state. Doesn't matter what city. >> I get what you're saying, but I know I ain't stole nothing. >> The parking lot counts and this the gas station counts as well. Okay. >> But you got me like I stole something. >> Um, lastly, with your consent, I'd like to take a photograph. >> No, man. >> Yes, sir. Okay. Thank you. >> Put your feet back in, man. >> Hey, can I get a lab? You know I got to ask him. >> Hey, what did he say? >> Huh? I've already told you what he said, man. I'm not going to tell you again. We're going to jail. Let's go. >> In the end, both men were charged with felony shoplifting. Trying to shift the blame does not erase your own involvement. When stolen merchandise is found in the vehicle and the evidence tells a different story, honesty may be the better choice. >> Know about his lower body. We did not move him. I was afraid he was smiling. >> Doesn't mean you have to talk to me. It's simply saying, "I read this to you and you understand." >> I refuse. >> That's fine with me. >> On the 22nd of October, 2025, police were dispatched to the scene after receiving an emergency call about an incident on the roadway. A witness [snorts] reported seeing a man clinging to the hood of an SUV as he was dragged along the road. Here's what happened when police arrived at the scene. >> Hey. Okay, we go. >> Yep. And there's his phone. >> All right. Hey, sir. Can you hear me? Can you hear me? >> He has to be able to answer any questions. I asked him what he was. >> I think his shoulder was dislocated. I don't know about his lower body. I We did not move him cuz I was afraid of his fine down here. >> Who Who's involved here? Where's the vehicle? >> I have no idea. >> His vehicle is That's his right. >> No, that's my daughter. We pulled over. >> Okay. >> Red car is pulled over. 57 aspiration. >> He's kind of >> he's still conscious. >> All right. >> Just got a blanket to cover him up. >> You know, I got it right here. >> What's your name? Right here. >> 5763. Got a DL right. >> He's got tons of road rash right here. His shirt's off. his um >> Hey, what's your name, partner? Huh? >> We're going to get you some help. >> You got vitals. Just shaking. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. Just bring it 576. I'm >> at 635. >> So, how did this incident begin in the first place leading to such a dangerous situation? One witness stepped forward and recounted how the whole confrontation started. >> So, um I was at this traffic light. There was a car behind me. I heard something scraping and I'm like, "What the heck is that?" Then I see this car right here >> pull up and I'm like, "Oh, it's his bumper." >> He pulled up. He he like jetted in front of me and then jetted in the lane next to me and then cut this woman off. >> Okay. >> Cut this woman off. His car was like like this. This is where he stopped. Her car was like a little bit back here >> in the turn lane or in the straight lane. >> She at that point she cut She was No, she was in this lane right here. Not the turn lane. The straight lane. >> The through lane. >> Yep. She was in the straight lane. He cuts her off. He gets out of his car on the hood of her car, screaming at her >> and holds on to like her windshield wipers or whatever. >> Yeah, like the maybe the >> Yeah, holding on something. Yeah, his belly is down. He's yelling at her. She's clearly like, "Oh my god, what the heck?" >> So, she's like jerking her car to get him to come off. He doesn't get off, but he stays on. And then ultimately, she ends up facing this way by kind of circling. U-turn >> basically. Yes. And so at that point, her bumper is backed up against my bumper. >> Okay. >> And I saw her reverse lights go on. I'm like, "Oh, she's me." So I end up the light turns green. I go down Cooper to head home. >> And then at that point she when I'm driving down Cooper, I see her car now facing that. Is that with one of our detectives? >> So we're not This is all supposed to be closed right now. >> Oh. Oh, okay. her her bumper is um so she's now turned completely around and she's face driving. >> She is literally holding on and she's driving with him on the hood of her car. Okay. >> I don't know. That's where I last saw. I thought I saw him tumble off but maybe I didn't. But >> the witness's statements all pointed to the same story and there appeared to be no reason for them to lie about what they had seen. But even then, the driver behind the wheel remained a mystery. Using the vehicle's license plate information, police were eventually able to locate the SUV connected to the incident. >> Well, there she is. >> How'd you guys find it? >> Uh, okay. Well, here's the gist of it. >> I just pulled up the hot and I drove around for about 3 minutes and found sitting here that matched the description of a vehicle that was stolen out of Kansas City. So, I rolled up, made contact with them, and uh there was a female standing out on the passenger side. There was a male inside that was sifted through everything. Um and uh officer wound up showing up with me. We got a thing both warrants from the car was stolen info from you guys. So >> who you guys have the males info we can get? >> Yeah. Yeah. >> Yeah. They both got jail. So >> female got heart failure as soon as she wound up hearing something on the radio was with regard to your guys and stuff. us, man. It's going >> get you. >> I can grab it. >> Uh, no. I got >> So, did you guys go through the car? >> He did. And another canine officer did. They were wearing gloves. I only touched the car >> part briefly. >> Yeah. We didn't know it was on. >> We wanted to make sure. >> I figured at first it was just like a Yeah, just guys. It was just a 45. >> Yep. was uh his name Brian Spalding. S A U L D I N G O 328 to 77. 328 of 77. >> Yep. >> After further investigation, the driver was identified as Danielle Henry, 34. Investigators also found that she had been shoplifting at the same Kroger, while the SUV she was driving had been reported stolen. She was already wanted on warrants related to theft. receiving stolen property and failure to comply, which may help explain why she fled the scene. Both Henry and the injured man were later taken for medical evaluation. >> I'd like to >> Can I please pee first? >> I got to pee so bad. >> Did you pee for them? >> No. >> Why didn't you? >> You never asked me to. >> Yeah, they did. I watched them. I was right there. I don't remember. >> I'm going to pee myself. >> We'll give you your jacket. Get your shoes off first. [clears throat] >> Yes. Yes, you have. Put your jacket on. >> Can I please >> zip your jacket? >> Zip your jacket. Hands behind your back. Turn around. >> Palms together as if you were praying. >> I can't pee. >> Palms together as if you were praying. >> I can't pee. Oh. Oh. She showed little sign of remorse for what had happened. Even at the police station, she remained seemingly unfazed, choosing to exercise her right to remain silent and refusing to answer the detective's questions. Okay. What does that kind of mean to you? >> That means I don't talk until I speak to a lawyer. >> Okay. It means you can or can't. It's up to you. Okay. Would you sign here that you that I read this to you and understand it? The print and sign doesn't mean you have to talk to me. It's simply saying I read this to you and you understand it. >> I refuse. >> That's fine with me. What's your highest level of education? >> Just make sure I that what I unders that what I read to you. You understand? >> I'm competent. >> Okay, fair enough. >> Do you have any idea why you're here today? >> Hey, Danielle. >> I I don't know. >> You don't know? Let me Let's explain. >> Should we Should we talk about why you're here today? [clears throat] I want to speak to a lawyer. >> You don't want to talk to us at all today? >> No. >> That's entirely your right. I will tell you, you have every right to not talk to us. You have every right to end this end this interview and talk to an attorney. Um I will tell you that a lot of what I'm here to talk to you about is I would like to get your side of it because I know there's it was probably a pretty hectic situation. I'd like to see what you have to say about it, but again, I can't force you to talk to me. So, it's entirely what up to you what you want to do today. >> I want to speak to you. >> Okay. Do you understand the charges? >> No, I don't know what I'm charged with. >> Okay. I'll explain it to you. I have a couple of things for you that you're being charged with aggravated vehicular homicide. >> What? >> Aggravated vehicular homicide, involuntary manslaughter, and stopping after an accident for the on the roadway. The felony of that. >> What? I would love to sit and discuss this with you, but you've decided you don't want to speak to me. >> Okay, that's fine. >> Would you like to to discuss this a little bit about what where these charges came from, what's going on with them? >> Initially, Danielle Henry was charged with aggravated vehicular homicide, involuntary manslaughter, and failure to stop after an accident, [music] along with additional charges and active warrants related to theft and receiving stolen property. She later pleaded guilty to aggravated vehicular homicide while the other charges were dropped. Henry was sentenced to at least 4 years and up to 5 and 1/2 years in prison, and her driver's [music] license was permanently revoked. The lesson: a dangerous confrontation on the road can escalate into consequences far beyond the original dispute. When an accident happens, stopping and cooperating with authorities can be critical. >> I don't have any money on my card. Like, I don't know what you guys are talking about. I have 60 cents. No, I'm not. I'm literally putting my hands behind. Where's my phone at? >> On the 22nd of March 2023, police received a report from an airport about a woman who had used a bar services without paying. Officers quickly arrived and an employee gave them an account of what had happened. >> So, I'm not 100% on that, but they said she did. >> Yeah, cuz we I think they checked the cameras over by 18 and they say she probably >> probably. So this is the restroom. She said she went to look for her card pour in first and she had a Dunkin coffee. So I said Duncan's that way. Check the bathroom over there and she had hidden her behind the wall and tried to pull the old okie do and still ran this way anyway. So she wasn't ever looking for a card when she was >> she was drinking what she had on there. To my knowledge, she was still pretty sober walking in. asked, you know, >> she understood the world called to say that she was looking for her and this is where she looked for it >> and obviously there she said she was looking for a card. >> Uh said she lost her card in transit and apparently thought she left it in the restroom, but what she had done actually was try to flirt with a man in the car and think he was going to pay that tap for her and he was having no part. Well, if Steve see her tab, if she's too scared, you probably try to talk to her. But, uh, I believe that is her and changed clothes right there. That's the blue bag. That's her. >> Ma'am. >> The woman was suspected of going into the bathroom to change clothes and alter her appearance. It seemed that was exactly what she intended as she began denying the officer's suspicions. >> Were you at this restaurant over here? >> No, I just came out of the bathroom. >> Okay. So, let me ask it. >> Did you change pair of clothes from that? >> No. >> So, you weren't at this restaurant over here? >> No. No. >> So, you weren't at this restaurant over here? I just came out of the bathroom. >> Okay. Okay. 15 minutes ago you weren't at the restaurant. 20 minutes ago >> I literally >> manager over there specifically pointed at you saying >> that looks like curly [ __ ] hair. Well, your shoes match >> with the blue bag that don't look like blue shoes, Let's see. It's blue from >> I don't I don't know where the spices >> the restaurant 20 minutes ago. >> I literally just got here. >> The manager over there specifically pointed at you saying >> that looks like curly [ __ ] hair. She was also believed to have changed her hairstyle, but the more questions the officers asked, the more frustrated she became, and her attitude grew increasingly tense. >> So, you changed your hair? >> I literally just got here. >> Did you? >> Yes. >> Okay. Uh, you're being detained right now. >> By who? >> By the police in a sham. >> Y'all look like security to me. Oh, really? >> I don't know, Tyler. Okay. >> These mother is >> this her >> positive ID? Absolutely. Change clothes in the bathroom. That is absolutely >> okay. >> I don't know who this is. >> So, how much you had to drink today? >> Alcohol. >> I've had I drank today. I drank before I got here. >> How much? >> Doesn't matter to you, does it? Cuz I'm not driving. >> Has nothing to do with the circumstance right now. >> Asking me how much I drink. Okay. Did you >> know these babe? These guys are literally trying to [ __ ] it with me. >> Well, there's good reason for it. Okay. Cuz you walk out on your tab at the bar over there. It's called theft of service right now. >> Okay. So, you >> know, you said I just heard something say let it go. >> Okay. You want to pay your bill? What are you talking about, Mr. Thomas? >> So, >> what do you want her to do? What's your You want to press charges or do you want to pay her bill? >> If she's can pay her bill, we're good. We're settled. If she's going to refuse to pay her bill even after the attitude, I would still let that go. >> You would still let it go. >> I'd let it go. >> So, you said I heard someone say, "Let it go." >> Okay. You want to pay your bill? What are you talking about, Mr. Thomas? >> It's psych. >> Well, I hear I see Thomas or something. >> I don't think so. >> The bar gave her a chance to pay and have the matter dropped, but unfortunately, she couldn't afford it either, which she admitted shortly after. >> I know the people at the restaurant. >> Look, I don't have any money on my card. Like, I don't know what you guys are talking about. I have 60 cents. Literally 60. They're different shoes, right? Why are you guys bothering me? >> Do you have a driver's license? >> I do. >> Okay. I would like to see it, please. >> They can't take They're not police. They security. No, >> we are police. >> Police on my arm. You see police? Police. Oh, you see how >> Well, that's cool. >> I have no idea. >> What jacket looks familiar? >> That jacket? >> No, that this little white sweater looks exactly like the one we just showed the picture of you. >> It was a tank top and shorts. >> Okay. >> Cuz you can't tell women's clothes. Cuz [ __ ] can't tell women's clothes. >> You can't tell, [ __ ] Shut the [ __ ] up. Tyler, I don't have any. >> I don't know what the they want from me. >> The driver's license is what we ask for. >> So, anyways, I'm just going to go to my plane. >> We're detained right now. We're not walk away. >> I'm nothere. >> At this point, although she still claimed she had never been to the bar, the woman still walked straight there without hesitation to try to pay. Even so, things didn't go smoothly. >> Can you put a number in? You have Apple Pay. No, it's his card. It's my husband's card that's on the phone right now. >> Can you Can you show me your card number? What do you have on your card? >> Send me your card number. >> Her actions did nothing to resolve the situation and only dragged things out, leaving the officers with little choice but to end it with an arrest. >> I'm not [laughter] into You haven't taken my Tyler, they're arresting me. >> Can I please Tyler, they'reing >> I'm not doing anything. I'm not doing anything. No, I'm not. I'm literally putting my hands behind. >> Where's my phone at? >> I'm literally not doing anything. I didn't pay. You alcohol. >> I drank. I literally admitted that I'm 24. I can drink. Where's my phone at? >> It's over here. We're going to have to take everything with us. >> How long is this going to take? >> Huh? >> Minimum of 4 hours. >> See, sir, I can I can pay whatever you guys need. I'm trying to get it figured out. >> Sir, I haven't given you guys any trouble. Please. >> No. I Okay, hold on. Can I I said I I drank alcohol. Can I please get it paid? >> Please. >> I can pay. >> You don't have any money in the car. >> The woman was charged with theft of service. When given a chance to resolve a situation, making excuses and delaying the process can only make things worse. Cooperation could have prevented a sim. >> Things in your bag. You weren't going to pay for >> No, I was going to pay for it. >> You were? >> Yes, I was. I swear on my body stuck at donuts and doing my hair and doing my nails. I didn't steal nothing. My boyfriend's buying me stuff later. >> On the 27th of May, 2026, police received a call from a store reporting that a woman named Victoria had been shoplifting. To learn more about what happened, officers arrived at the scene and spoke with a store employee. >> What did this look like? >> Oh, that was me. >> No, the one that supposedly took the uh >> What did she look like? >> Yes. >> She had like reddish pinkish hair, black fur. So, black skirt cuz I saw some girl with like a leopard almost like a leopard print. >> Yes. Yes. With leopard shoes. >> Leopard shoes. A long like bag like saggy bag. >> Okay. I'm sorry. What did she take? >> She took Well, she tried to at least I got it back from her. She tried to take this and she took this dress and put the hanger back over here. So, this I she watched her put this in the bag and then I saw the polka dot dress in her purse and I said, "That's my I was like, "That's my dress in your bag." And she's like, "No, it's mine." >> Okay. Yeah. >> So then I was like, "Let me see her back or I'll literally call the cops." >> All right. >> And but I was scared of her to be in here before like like calling you guys that she was in here cuz I don't know what she's going to do. So then I was just like, >> "I think I know who it is." >> I said, "Just please don't come back." I said, "And she said, can I buy it?" I said, "No, you're just not allowed to come back in here." >> "Okay, I think I know." >> Soon after, officers responded to a Dollar General after receiving information that Victoria had been seen there. As soon as they approached her, she remained completely calm, as if she had already prepared an excuse for herself. Hi. Did anyone come in here recently? >> That's the bathroom. >> Hi, Victoria. >> Hi. >> Come with me. >> Okay. >> All right. Listen to me. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you could say can use against you in a court of law. You have a right to an attorney. If you cannot afford an attorney, you won't be relied to. Do you understand your rights? I'll buy you what?" >> So my friend's going to come later and buy it for me. But I'm not allowed in there anymore. But I didn't steal nothing. I let her check my purse. I let her check my purse. So, I'm not going back. I wanted them to give me a um a haircut called the wolf haircut, like where it makes your hair like wolfy. It's called butterfly or wolf. >> At this point, officers arrested the suspect and took her into custody for further investigation at headquarters. However, the items found in her bag also raised even more suspicion among the officers. >> What's the bag >> on the ground? >> Where's my mom going to take you? >> I have it. One time a man bruised me because he thought he had to put his leg on me. And I'm starting to remember people more cuz I stopped buying clothes. >> Good. I'm glad. What were you trying to steal for? [screaming] >> On the 13th of April 2024, officers were dispatched to a Walmart after receiving a report of a woman suspected of shoplifting. I got a few more rings. Those are mine. >> These are mine. Those ones are all theirs. >> You put the paper down there. So, what I always do, what you don't necessarily have to do is pat down because everything um ma'am, do you mind? This is what I want to do. Just lift your shirt up and spin around. Yep. Are you good with that? I'm good with it, too. You You can if you want put your things back in here and just set that on the floor. Meanwhile, the loss prevention employee reviewed the surveillance footage to determine exactly what she had done earlier. [music] So she also >> she actually tried to walk out with it. >> She did. What you want to do? >> Uh prosecute. Trespass or the trespass. So yeah, prosecute. >> Fair enough. So >> the guilt seemed difficult for the woman to deny and even having her Miranda rights read to her became another source of pressure causing her to break down in tears and regret her actions. >> You still have the right to stop answering at any time and speak with with the lawyer. Do you understand each of these rights I have explained to you? Having these rights in mind, do you wish to talk with me now? I guess I don't know. >> But do you understand each of these right that I explained to you? >> For the most part, >> would you like for me to read them again so you can fully understand? >> No, I'm still not going to fully understand. I don't comprehend it. Okay. >> You still want to talk to me? All right. So, explain to me um what what was the whole process of of you inside the Walmart. >> Some of those were all Those were already open. >> They were already open in the aisle. >> They were already open in the aisle. All I did is take one or two. I was going to try them. I wanted to I was going outside to get my card. >> All right. I swear >> even if they were open, you know, you can't just put them in your pouch and leave. Correct. All right. And then on the on the cameras, we see you opening the packaging for the for the markers. >> No, those were already open. >> You have video. >> I promise. I promise. I swear you can zoom in. They those two were already open. All I did was take take the marker out. >> All right. So all the >> all all those item all those items there when you you didn't intend to to pay for you just walked out. >> Well, I was going to get my card. >> All right. So >> I asked the lady up front to hold those things that I had. >> So the person who was working, they held it for you? >> Yeah, it's up front. She still tried to downplay her responsibility, claiming that her actions were a misunderstanding, but that could not erase her wrongdoing as the officers had already made their decision. >> All right. So, so based on my investigation here, um, can you stand up? Do you mind standing up? >> No. Please, why? Please don't take me. I promise I gave them to her. She >> left. I wasn't leaving. I didn't even make it out the door yet. Jessica, stand up. >> I can't. I won't get out. Please >> stand up. [laughter] >> Please, I won't get out. Please >> turn around. Face the wall. [laughter] >> Please, I won't get out. [screaming] I'm sorry. >> [gasps] >> Please, please, I don't have any response. Please, please, please. What if I was being honest? >> She seemed to think that crying and begging would change something, but the officers before her were not going to give into her feudal attempts. >> Walmart don't they don't play. >> I know. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to. I'm not in >> Walmart doesn't play around. When they want to press charges, >> we have to serve them the way they want. >> Please don't put me in jail. >> It's a $500 fine. >> I don't have $500. I don't even have but 40 bucks. Please. [laughter] >> I promise I'll pay the 40 and leave the marker. I have my kid here. My son is here. [laughter] >> I'm raised here. Born raised on harassment. Joanna's on a reckless like US one something like that like way down almost. I have my kid here. I will come to court. I've did my time here already. >> You got them all here. You got anything? already. >> In the end, the woman was charged with petite theft and transported to the Indian River County Jail. Under Florida statute, section 812.014. If convicted of first-degree petite theft, she could face up to 1 year in jail and $1,000 in fines. Even a small theft can still lead to criminal charges and real consequences.
