Yeah, I'm going to call the Ma'am, you almost just killed me. I am sorry. I didn't even see you. Were you behind that car? No. I saw that >> nobody in front of me. I saw the car coming and I did not see you. One of the things that you can do [music] while you're riding out there is be visible. In this particular instance, I thought I was pretty visible. Wearing this uniform, [music] police motorcycle, have a bright light. It is kind of dark, but there was nobody else in front of me. However, I did [music] see that this vehicle was approaching that median. Again, anticipating that she's going to turn right in front of me is what I thought was going to happen. And sure enough, [music] it did. So, I put my training into effect and one of the things that we teach is that [music] braking evade technique where you see something, you apply your brakes real hard, try to maneuver slightly, just enough to avoid that [music] collision. Anticipating that she was going to turn left in front of me is one of the things that helped me that night. We can do this [music] in intersections as well. If you're approaching an intersection and you see that there are vehicles out there that are trying to make a left-hand turn, [music] anticipate that they will make a left-hand turn in front of you. If you're too close in front of a vehicle that's going [music] through the intersection, slow down, get some distance so those left turners can actually see you behind [music] that vehicle. I see that more than often at a lot of these intersections and a lot of these collisions that I respond to [music] is that typically they're tailgating somebody in front of them. And remember, they're driving a 13-ft long vehicle and you have a 6-ft long [music] motorcycle, that little 6-ft space of you and that thin profile, that other driver on the opposite side of the road trying to make that left [music] turn is not going to see you. As you go through that intersection, the car will pass, that driver is going to anticipate that left turn never seeing you and [music] collide right into you. So, give space, slow down at these intersections, roll off your throttle. So, wear your helmet, get some gloves, proper riding attire, shoes, boots that are comfortable, that [music] are enough to wear, prevent ankle injuries, road rash, things like that, and [music] ride safe out there. >> [music]
