pretty much like right when I got out of high school, that was like the first thing I I knew I wanted to do was just join the military cuz I was like every other kid. Like I just wanted to get out of town. But I I grew up here in Mesa. Both of my parents were um deputies with MCSO. So, like it always kind of been in the back of my head, but at the time I really never wanted to be a cop, but I I kind of knew that it would be a good option because it's stable. You know, it's something that it's always going to be there. And all of my friends have said that they loved it. You know, it's similar to the military in some senses, but it's also you get to go home to your family every night. >> So, we've got a a group of people here that are blocking the sidewalk. Um, we're just going to go have a talk with him real quick. >> How's it going, guys? >> You're good. I just figured I'd come talk with you. >> Morning, man. Somebody had spread out. >> Oh, what's up, man? >> Yeah. Yeah. How you doing? >> Yeah, man. I came here this morning. It was spread out everywhere. So, I've been slowly trying to pick it all up and [ __ ] >> He's mainly like a lot of the businesses here, they've been having like weird issues with just like typical stuff, burglaries, like that that U-Haul actually had someone come and and take gas out of their tank. And it's like >> it was like 1:00 in the morning. But um All right. Well, I know you. Do you mind if I get your uh your name, sir? >> Oh, you got your ID with you? All right. Where are you from? I haven't seen you. >> Texas. I think I got to talk to you. Come on. >> Yeah, I think so. >> Where at? >> Um somewhere. >> Were you the one that showed me your SoundCloud last time? You got a Soundcloud? No. >> You probably think my giant sound giant. >> Think about SoundCloud. >> You know what a SoundCloud is? >> Yeah. Yeah. >> It's like a speaker. >> No, it's like a It's like a rap site. People like start their like they do rap. >> No. >> Dang. Hey. Hey. You You spit bars though, don't you? >> Sometimes. >> Yeah. If I get If I give you a beat, will you Will you throw some bars down? >> I'll try. I'll try. Why not? >> All right. Coming up hard. Coming up hard. I got this and they be dipping their cars telling them fools that I be straight. I be limping [ __ ] and life is great. [laughter] So, hell yeah, man. That's what I'm talking about. Like this stuff's like it's it's rough out here cuz you know like everybody everybody uh that we have our spots, you know what I mean? And we try to stay out of everybody's way, you know what I mean? Try to stay out of it. But then there's other people like that one across the street, >> right? Uh you know what I mean? Uh that one across the street, she just doesn't she don't know. She don't know no better. You mean she she got everything out everywhere. >> That's why you you got to guide her, man. >> I'm not trying to >> You got to guide her. You You told me you have a girlfriend now, too. >> Yep. >> She's not going to say that, though. >> All righty. >> All right. >> Well, uh, good luck to you guys, right? >> Yep. Take care. >> We've known them for many years. Um, some not so good interactions until recently. some some better interactions. Um they are unhoused. Um they do utilize some of the resources we have here whether it be Pristo or St. Vincent de Paul. Um but one of the important things that I took away from this conversation now is they're sharing that information with other people that are new to being unhoused. Um and and the interactions we have with our unhoused community is not just about enforcement. It's it's about offering resources and making sure they're doing right. We're not going to force oursel on them. Um, but we're going to make sure that they're aware of uh the resources available to them and and how to take those steps to getting off the street and getting into a more stable living environment uh that is more conducive to setting them up for success. >> So, this is a an e call on subject threatening others with a knife. Um, we're going to be first on scene. white car. >> That's going to be the >> That's our peak. >> Yeah. >> Can you come over here, sir? >> So, what what's going on? Is there any who who's inside? >> Uh I have a guy inside. He's a violent. >> Okay. >> He's violent. >> He's a violent. >> Okay. >> He came be [music] he came be before house was maybe was in program. >> The program was was ended. >> Okay. For me, I taken over house. I taking over house. Normal program. The people bring the the that person. He try to find another house to take claim somewhere be better than to kick out. He bring he bring yo. He he she he agree to bring yo to take another house. >> Okay. >> The guy. >> Is there is there anyone else inside besides him? >> I think more than three people. There's a three people besides suspect inside. >> Yeah. Then the guy he give you >> three people including suspect inside. >> Yeah. >> Do we have a number for a manager inside? >> Him. >> Well, that's him. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> Then >> he give you 245. >> Yeah. >> Wow. >> Did he How did he have the knife? >> Hey Der, what's the suspect's name? >> What suspect's name? >> Guy that was arresting me. He knows. Yeah, >> that's our suspect. >> Hey, what? Turn around. Stop right there. Stop right there. Can't stop your head. Down to your knees for me. Okay. >> Hey, listen up to me, partner, real quick. Okay, >> be cool. We'll sort this out. We just have to do a couple things first to make sure we're doing everything. All right. >> Okay. >> While we're talking, do you have any guns or knives on you? >> No. >> Okay. >> Yep. Go ahead and set that down on the ground in front of you for me, please. Thank you. Keep your hands top of your head. There you go. Put your hands back on top of your head. >> We got the suspect out of the house. He's compliant. Once we get a full IIA team here, then we'll uh call them back, get them into custody. >> All right, Dryer, you you guys want to take hands? >> Yeah. >> You want to do verbals? >> Yeah. All right, >> your hands. >> We're going to move up. Buck's going to push past. You're going to hold the house, right, Buck? >> Yeah. You want to do that? You want to bring back? >> Let's just bring them back. >> All right. What I'm going to have you do is I'm going to have you go ahead and stand up. Keep your hands on top of your head. Okay. >> If you need to use your right hand to help yourself up, go ahead. Okay, stay facing the house. I want you to walk backwards to the sound of my voice. Okay. All right. Walk backwards. Walk backwards. All right. Stop right there. Take two steps to your right. I want you up against the truck. Okay. All right. Keep walking backwards. Now, keep your hands on top of your head. You're doing great. Keep walking. Keep walking. Keep walking. Stop. Take two steps to your right. I want you in the middle of the Tahoe. Okay. Stay right there. Don't move. Do you understand? Yes, sir. All right. Hands behind your back. >> I don't know what the problem is, but >> All right. We're going to get all that sorted out. Is there any other people inside the house? >> Yes, sir. >> Some other residents. >> Yes, sir. >> Here. We're going to walk you back to the curb over here. We're going to have you have a seat. >> Okay. >> Y. >> So, come on back here. >> Anybody left in 543, please step out of the building without any weapons? >> How did he threaten you with a knife? That one? Yeah. How? Because when they coming in the house because I have a wife to come in my house because he give you notes more than more than a month. >> He the last two week two days. Last week he is a >> I'll get the rest of the story. What I want to find out is how did he threaten you with a knife? >> Did he have it in his hand? >> That one? Yeah. He came in when I he he came in when I came in the in the bath in the >> If you guys want to just hang out over here, we'll come talk to you in a second. Okay. He came in the living room. He said, "What are you doing in my why do you in the house?" >> Okay. He was he was asking you. >> Yeah. >> He said he came he said he knows somebody to came to bring my stuff. >> Where did the knife come into play? >> Then he going to kitchen. >> Kitchen knife. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> He bring me he touched me now in in my back. Say >> so he's pushing you out with the knife. >> Yeah. >> Okay. Was it up? Was it down? >> Yeah. was was touching for that side then that side push me outside. >> Okay. >> For me, I don't I don't ask you nothing. >> Okay. >> Then he came sit my car. Let me >> hang tight for a second. We're going to come back and talk to you in a second. >> So Edmund here at some point is like, "What do you do in the house?" Cuz he goes in the house. Um what do you do in the house? You don't need to be here. He goes to the kitchen, grabs a knife, and then is basically pushing him out the door while holding the kitchen knife. >> Um gets him out of the door. He goes to the car, calls us >> trying to figure out exactly what's going on. >> And you guys were here a couple weeks ago, two weeks ago today. Um I don't remember the name of the two officers. >> You want to talk to >> But they they told him this is a civil matter. >> Okay. >> Now, they're they're to do the eviction process on it. They told us we all had to be out by the 31st. They just by word of mouth. It it was simp, you know, they didn't give us any type of plans, no backup. And so we're like, "No, we're going to we're going to do this. We're we have the our rights. We're going to do this, you know, the proper way." And they they him and another gentleman showed up. I remember it was along with Mesa PD and they told him this is a civil matter. You have to go through the courts and do this properly. And he had done nothing. Absolutely nothing. This guy has shown up twice and he just parks out here and sits here. And we probably should have called you guys in, but he he didn't like >> he he wasn't doing nothing here. Did Did he just He was inside the house. >> He just walking in the house. Yes. >> Does he have keys? >> I guess I >> That's the first time he's ever done that. The door the door is normally locked. >> No, no, the door is locked. >> Okay. >> When I when I said you have to go back outside, I said you can't be in here. I locked the door. He unlocked it again. >> So then he's inside the house. >> Mhm. >> Right. And then >> he doesn't want to leave. >> No, he didn't want. No. Well, no. Well, I mean, yeah. He I said I said, "Look, you can't be inside here." And we, you know, we we were all kind of stay. And I he were kind of kind of in and about or >> Yeah. Yeah. But we we all just woken up now. >> And he he did leave and I shut the door and locked it and he he unlocked it, but then he went to his car and I guess called you guys. >> Okay. >> But >> he's he's saying that you at one point you went in the kitchen and grabbed a knife. >> Absolutely not. >> Okay. [laughter] >> Nobody did nothing like that. No. >> Okay. And >> there's never been we've never made any threats to him whatsoever. We've been more than diplomatic with them. We just want to do the >> um the go due process. >> You want him through the eviction process? >> Yes, sir. Okay. And and I understand that >> this is a call. One of the tenants called in for basically saying that another person had threatened him with a knife. You know, a lot of times on these, like we don't get a whole lot of info right off the bat. So, we take them basically as serious as we can until we get other information. We have like more than one person saying that nothing happened. So, once you get to that point, there's no evidence of anything. It's like we can't really, you know, we're not going to hold them longer than we need to. So, >> right, >> help help them. They all they all already knew their rights and stuff. So, we help explain that to them so that they they don't get scammed or anything later on in the future. And but I just kind of want to run you through why we did what we did. Okay. So, initially we were called about you threatening uh that gentleman with a knife. >> Okay. >> As you can probably guess, that's why we responded the way we did. >> I was kind of wondering why >> and then and then when you came out was when he was telling me, "Hey, that's the guy." So that's why that's why the officers put you at gunpoint real quick. Okay. Um you were you were compliant so we were able to kind of walk you back and >> not leave you on the pavement for too long. So appreciate you listening to our commands. Um the big thing that that we kind of discovered here, right, is that maybe the allegation of the knife wasn't accurate. >> Okay. >> Yeah. Absolutely. >> We good? >> Absolutely. I'm good. I'm absolutely good. I know and I know talking to you earlier like I know like you guys the last thing you want is cops coming out but if you guys have an issue just call us and like we'll come out like you guys have our back on the the whole eviction thing like that's not formal then >> that's basically just that's all we're asking for is just >> just our you know our our rights as far as the eviction process goes and we exercise that and then once you know once they come down say nope whatever with you guys um you got to go I'm fine with that. All right, you guys want stickers? >> First one to get a sticker wins. >> There you go. >> There you go. All right, you're deputized. >> You want to give one to your brother, too? >> Yeah. >> All right. >> How do you like being a police? >> I love it. Is that You want to be a You want to be a cop when you get older? >> Maybe. Yeah. All right. Well, as soon as you get older, you come do a ride along and we'll >> we'll go do some police work. >> All right. Fine. Hey, down low. >> Down low. [laughter] >> All right. Here. Up high. All right. Down low. [laughter] >> All right. See you guys later. >> Bye. >> [music] [music]
