For police officers, [music] surveillance footage capturing shoplifters actions was more than just evidence. [music] >> It also served as a way to identify them so that if they tried to run, this was the outcome. >> Not today. >> Now find it before you get again. Turn around. Get your back. Here are the times when shoplifter has no idea CCTV recorded everything. Welcome back to This is Law. We hope this video continues to bring you an entertaining viewing experience. Don't forget to like and subscribe if you enjoy our content. Enjoy. Starting with this woman who used an EBT card while skip scanning items. >> What made you want to do it today? Like what happened? >> I don't know. Funny cash. >> Remember she had the ground beef on the bottom? >> She never even attempted to turn it to [music] scan. She scanned the ground fork twice. >> On the 9th of January 2025, police received a call from Walmart reporting a woman who had completed her purchase at a selfch checkout and was heading toward the exit. However, store security noticed suspicious activity during the transaction. Here's what happened when officers arrived at the scene. >> Sits over here, never attempts to scan. >> Rosa, right now you're under arrest for retail theft. Okay, just so you understand that. I got to read you your rights. It's like TV. Okay. So, am I going to have to go to jail? >> Uh, no. >> Am I going to have to go to the precinct? Am I school with you guys? >> It's a possibility. Yeah. >> So, if you watch the next one, she has two receipts. Only one gets scanned. Set to the side. The Kit Kats get scanned, but the more expensive candy at the bottom does not get scanned. >> Rosa, what's going on with this? >> I'm sorry. I You know, this is not the norm for me. >> Yeah. >> I'd never been in trouble for this. Well, what what what made you want to do it today? Like what happened? >> I don't know. Running low on cash and was trying to get groceries and trying to pay for the majority of it. >> Yeah. Let me uh you got the receipt for the actual receipt for us. >> Yes. >> She has it right here. But you're here. >> Can I see that one real? >> Yeah. To prevent the suspect from overhearing the investigation and coming up with excuses, the officers spoke privately with the loss prevention employee about the specific actions she had taken. >> So if she's if she's doubling up on items. >> Mhm. >> So like these two tater tots. Did she take something? >> No, she scanned them both. She knows exactly what she's doing. >> Yeah. >> So she scanned both of the tater tots, but the ground fork, remember she had the ground beef on the bottom. >> She never even attempted to turn it to scan. She scanned the graphic book twice. >> Okay. >> Um in there, if you keep watching the potatoes, she sets off to the side. >> Yeah. >> And she never even attempts to scan them. >> So, some of these are doubled up. So, she paid more. >> Yeah. So, the ones with the stars. >> Yeah. >> She had two tater tots. Uh the ground pork, the one with the stars, we are refunding her for. >> Oh, so [snorts] you're doing a refund? >> Yes. Cuz she's she scanned that in place of the ground beef. >> Okay. >> So, we're refunding. We That's why we have to starby it. Those are the ones she did double up. And then she uses EVT >> to pay for it. >> Yeah. >> All right. They'll bring him back while I watch the video, but she can't bring him back. >> Okay. I got to get to walking out. I'm not editing the video. >> Okay. >> The suspect's actions were confirmed to have involved intentionally using cheaper items to fraudulently pay for more expensive merchandise. Moments later, the surveillance footage provided clear evidence of what she had done. >> So, these she has two Like I said, if you watch the screen, go through the PC, find it back here, scans it once, puts a handheld down to get back. Okay, right here. One gas X gets scan, the other one doesn't. Scans the Pepto scans the one gas X and no attempt to scan that second gas X. Rosa, is this just uh like normal groceries for you? Like home home stuff? Okay. >> Oh, here's the shampoo. So, I'll show you. >> So, >> so right here, this the orange bottle is the cheaper bottle. Scanned it. Scanned it again. As you see, that one never got turned. >> That's a double up price. >> That's the 20. Yeah. Yeah. >> So, we had to refund that. So, >> but you guys got that. You got that right. What you're going to do? >> Yeah. She just needs the receipt. She'll scan it and then >> it'll pop every time. >> The other double up. Grab that and then you can get them to copy. >> Thank you. >> And then like I said, the chocolate milk she scan one didn't scan the other. The white milk scan one didn't scan the other. >> So there' be similar item that's cheaper on this. So there always be two items, but one would scan and one wouldn't. >> Not in all instances. Um like I said, the duct tape. She had two duct tape. Scanned the clear one, didn't scan the darker one at the bottom. Um the deodorant. Uh I didn't actually see the deodorant. I seen that was before I started watching her, but it wasn't on the receipt. >> This evidence made it difficult for the suspect to deny the wrongdoing she had committed. The officers then explained what she would likely face as a result of her actions. >> Uh Rosa, what we're going to do, we're going to go to the station. Okay. Uh I'm just going to fingerprint you, take a picture. All you're doing is getting a ticket and then you're leaving. Okay. It's just a misdemeanor ticket. You'll get a court date and be okay. So then do I have to get >> uh that'll be determined at the court date. So nothing crazy. You're not going to go down a county or anything. You're just going to go station. You have to sit in like a booking area. We'll do all our stuff and get you out of there. >> Be there. >> Our customer paid machine. So I don't want to run low. >> Where is it? >> They get an electronic drove. >> It's on the car. >> No. >> Okay. like [snorts] 30 minutes. >> It says it's 1:18. It should be fine. It should be fine. >> Okay. >> Okay, cool. I'm going have you stand up. Okay. I got to put you in handcuffs. You're going to stand up and >> I just walk out. >> No. Okay. Handcuffs. So, turn around. You just leave all that there. We'll take all that with you. >> And then do I have to come back and take my cars? >> Yeah. I'm going to let you know sometimes with these we tow the vehicle. I'm not doing it. You've been straight up with me being honest, but just understand that that there's a possibility. Okay, this continues. >> She seemed remorseful as if this was the first time she had ever done something like this. What do you think? Did her actions look more like those of someone experienced rather than a firsttime offender? And if you've ever wondered what it was like to be held at a police station, this was it. >> Call your son and then uh get you in and out of here real quick. >> The cover. >> You might. Yeah, you might have to go more than once. So, you can either plead guilty, take the fine, or ple not guilty, and then you go through the trial and everything. >> I think believe you have to show uh proof of income, and then if you're under a certain income, they'll assign you a public defender. So, that's how it goes. Okay. Rosa was charged with retail theft, a misdemeanor, for intentionally underringing merchandise at the Walmart selfch checkckout. Trying to save money through self-checkout fraud can end up costing far more when it leads to criminal charges and a court appearance. Next, the woman risked her future over nothing more than a few Christmas presents. >> Want to picture anybody back real quick? >> Kind of lost my job and I don't I don't know. I'm trying to get Christmas presents. >> On the 17th of December 2025, police responded to a reported shoplifting incident at Walmart. A woman was accused of concealing multiple unpaid items in her bag, unaware that her actions were being monitored through the store's surveillance cameras. >> Uh, she's heading out to, I think, grocery side right now. >> She shoplift. >> Yeah, she's concealing. She's already >> What? She's concealing. >> Uh, hey Derek. Uh, where she at right now? Uh, we got PD here in women's apparel. Yeah, she's right there. >> Okay. >> He's going to stop her, but I don't know if she'll comply, but she's already heading out to grocery the flannel. >> As soon as the woman attempted to leave the store, the police quickly caught up with her and stopped her. Anybody back real quick? Cool. You're being detained suspicion. Okay. >> All right. Go with me. Look. >> What's your name, man? My >> name is Robin. Okay. >> Robin, what was your last name? >> S I T. >> Okay. >> You have an ID on you, man? You have a question, man? >> Yes. Uh, am I going to am I going to be going to jail? >> I have not determined that. Yes. Okay. Thank you. >> We're going to go in their office. Okay. Okay. >> I'll get all your information from there. We'll determine what's going to happen. Okay. >> Okay. >> Just take a seat right there on that bench. Okay, ma'am. >> So, like I told you, okay, you're being detained uh under suspicion of shoplifting. Okay. Um, give me a second. I'm going to read you your rights. I'm going to ask you a few questions. Okay. >> Okay. >> Are you okay physically? >> Um, do >> you need medical attention for anything? >> Oh, no. I just wanted to kind of get my hair out of my face, but >> to help you out a little bit. >> The other side. >> It was clear that the woman could no longer deny what she had done. After reading her Miranda rights, the officer gave her an opportunity to admit everything. >> With these rights in mind, do you wish to speak to me? Like I said, and if I ask you a question, you don't want to answer it, you don't have to. Okay. So, Robin, what did you take from the store? >> Um, I So embarrassing. Um, I took some like toys. >> Some toys >> and like a hair straightener and some like Hello Kitty makeup. >> Okay. >> Um, >> where was all where are those items at right now? >> Um, >> are they in your bag? >> Yes, sir. >> Can I grab them from your bag? Sure, >> if you guys still in here. Yeah. All that stuff. >> Can I grab the the merchandise that you stole? >> Okay. All of this. >> Is this Did you buy this? >> Yeah. She selected that and she was drinking from her. >> Yes. I was >> You not pay for Okay. >> I can pay for >> So, I'll talk to you about that. >> Is this yours? Okay. >> So, Robin, can I ask you a question? >> Is everything in here theirs? That's Well, I I have my wallet and >> Okay. Is it the bag is yours though, right? >> Yes. >> Yeah, the bag is >> Okay. So, there's You tell me if something's >> Those are those. Okay. Obviously, the bra too, right? >> Yeah. >> Receipt. Hair straightener. You said it was too, right? >> Yes. A bunch of these little items where >> Yeah, that's ours. >> Yeah, those are >> this. Okay. All the panties, too. >> Okay. So, a bunch of cosmetic stuff. Yeah. >> The nail polish and everything, too. >> Yes. >> Okay. >> Just the lighter is yours, though, right? >> Oh, yes. >> In fact, the woman could have paid for all of the merchandise she stole because she had money with her. An EBT card was also found inside her wallet. >> There's some cash in here. There you go. >> Okay. Just a EVT card. That's not even for you. Print two receipts so he can have one. >> Yeah, it's my um my aunt. >> Oh, your aunt. >> Yes. >> Okay. I'm not going to get a call about you a stolen uh EBT card for that name, right? >> No, sir. >> Okay. So, just the lighter in this wallet is yours in here. >> Um I don't know. I was going to pay for some of it. Um I don't really have it. um good excuse because it's you know >> obviously you get money in your purse so just for the thrill of it or is there a reason behind it? >> I just um I kind of lost my job and I don't I don't know. I'm trying to get Christmas [clears throat] presents and >> Uhhuh. >> Okay. >> Sorry guys. >> You have a Don't take offense to this. Okay. You have an addiction problem? >> Um cigarettes I guess. Just cigarettes, no narcotics. >> Um, no. I um I used to be a um addict, but >> I am a naughty one. >> Under New Mexico law, merchandise valued between $250 and $500 is classified as a misdemeanor. With the total value of the item she stole, the officer quickly determined the charge she would face. >> Okay. Well, the total value is $324. Okay. >> Oh my gosh. Really? >> Yeah. It's inflation for you these days. >> How how much am I over? >> Like almost $100. >> Oh man. >> So >> there's no I'm from out of town. Like I live in Silver City. >> Silver City. >> And >> Okay. >> We just came down to shop like they they were not stealing. Is there any way I can not go to jail, sir? Please. >> No miss. Okay. This is like I said, okay, if it was under that threshold close the door a little bit. Sorry. So embarrassing. So that's like I said, so you're you're going to be charged with the fullness meter of shoplifting. Okay. Um you'll see a judge in the morning and you'll be out tomorrow. Okay. Uh you just work on video of everything, selecting items. I'll send uh I'll send you a link. Um we'll work. Okay. >> Yeah, we appreciate it. That white boy. >> Appreciate you guys. >> In the end, the woman was charged with misdemeanor shoplifting. Financial hardship is never a legal justification for theft. Once the value of stolen merchandise exceeds the legal threshold, a person can face criminal charges, arrest, and a court appearance, making a moment of poor judgment carry long-term consequences. Next, this woman escalated the situation even further. >> Not today. >> I only got a pack of that because they stole from me. On the 17th of December 2025, police were dispatched to a store after receiving a report that a woman had stolen multiple packs of cigarettes. She was also believed to have left the scene with a man in a white van. Here's what happened next. >> So, what happened? >> Okay, I have it on the camera back here if you want to come back. >> And she asked for a case of Swisser sweets, which I said I only had a 15 pack. >> Mhm. And then she asked for two cards in Newport shorts. Do you want it? These two are they came in together. >> Okay. >> I don't know if he took anything. >> I believe they were in a short van with no windows. >> What color? >> White. All white. Looks, you know how the little work bands? >> Yeah, I think I know who that is. They live off Tree Bridge. >> Um, the guy driving was a light-skinned black kid, curly hair, the white passenger. Nope. I think they jumped in the side of it. >> Can you just run that back a little bit? >> Sorry. Based on the information provided by the store, officers located the white van in a nearby area. As soon as the suspect noticed the police, she immediately became alarmed and took off running, triggering a foot pursuit. >> You come here. >> Yes, you. Don't do it. >> Come here. >> Hello. >> Cuz you. >> Why? 94. >> Why me? Pursuit. Black female green shirt. >> Not today. >> I cannot breathe. >> Don't move. >> I cannot breathe. >> Don't move. >> Oh my god. >> STOP. RESIST. >> OH MY GOD. >> YOU'RE GOING TO GET IT AGAIN. STOP. >> STOP, >> BRO. >> STOP. >> Stop moving. Put your hands behind your back. Cannot breathe. >> Put your hands behind your back. I CANNOT BREATHE. OH MY GOD. I'M NOT GOING NOWHERE. >> Put your hands behind your back. >> Can I breathe? >> Put your hands behind your back. I'm not talking. Please, sir, give me some water. >> Put your hand behind your back. >> I CAN'T BREATHE. >> PUT YOUR HAND BEHIND YOUR BACK. >> I CAN'T BREATHE. [screaming] >> PUT YOUR HAND BEHIND YOUR BACK. >> I can't breathe. Please, sir. I can't breathe. >> Oh my gosh. Why can I breathe? >> STOP RESISTING. PUT YOUR HAND behind you back. Now, >> you should know that resisting only escalated the situation significantly, [music] and the woman's actions had just proven exactly that. At this point, the officers tried to calm her down and persuade her to cooperate. >> Leave him down. Sit up. All right. >> Don't stand up. Stay right there. I got you. >> What? >> Lean up against the wall. >> Don't stand up. >> Just lay right here. >> Just stay there. Why'd you run? >> Because >> this was a misdemeanor. >> What? >> And you turned it into this [ __ ] >> Please let me go. No. >> Please, sir. >> No. >> Please don't. >> If you hadn't ran, I would have. >> Please, sir. >> No. Absolutely not. >> You stole the sigs. >> Oh, no I didn't. >> No, I didn't. >> All right. The ones on the floor. >> No, those are not mine. Those are mine. >> You need gloves or anything? >> I didn't steal anything. >> Stop. >> I didn't steal anything. >> Who said I stole a cigarette? >> You're on camera, girl. You just did it here. >> Hold on. Just moving around. >> Yeah. >> What's wrong? >> No, not talking to you. >> John, this is crazy, bro. This is really crazy. >> Well, don't steal, >> sir. >> Don't steal. And then you won't and don't run from the cops. >> It's that simple. Ironically, after everything she had done following her attempt to flee, she acted as though she had no memory of stealing the cigarettes. >> You said what? >> At the tent. >> They saw her leaving the white man van that's always here. >> Who? >> The store clerk that you just stole from. >> I'm serious. >> Yeah. Well, now you're going to jail. Don't steal. Stealing mine. >> It was until you kicked me. >> I didn't mean to kick you. >> Yes, you did. You were resisting violently and you kicked me. You burn my chest. I swear to God. I don't want no resisting. >> That's what happens when you resist. >> Yo, bro, baby, >> you got live to fight another day. >> Fight another day. >> But I'm too fast. >> All right, I'm going to get these probes out of you. Okay, what I want you to do, what's your first name? What's your name? >> What's your name? You got to ID yourself or you're going to get another charge. Okay. >> All right. Lean up against my car. Do not move or else. This is going to hurt really bad. >> Okay. >> That one's >> You got it. >> Nope. That one's in really deep. >> Yeah. >> Lift up your arms for me. >> No. Okay. >> After repeated questioning by the officers, she eventually admitted to what she had done, but in a manner that showed little genuine remorse. Please, sir. Please, please, please. >> Was it Was it just the cigarettes? >> Yes, that's it. Sir, please. Please. >> Why'd you run? >> Because I It's just me. They had drugs over. I didn't want to be in trouble. >> You what? >> I mean, like, come on. >> Everybody back there is holding dope. We know that. >> I know. I don't care. I was here. >> I didn't know that. And I didn't I didn't >> I was here to give you a court date >> and I didn't know that. >> If you if you had done what I asked cuz I walked over and said, "Hey, come here." >> And I thought And I'm thinking like you're like >> And you duck you ducked. >> Yeah. Because >> And then you took off running and then got your tased. How'd that feel like first time? >> Yeah, it sucks. >> Please can you get me recorded, please? I promise. Help me. Help me, please. Right now, please. I haven't seen stuff, please. >> Have a seat. Chad in a minute. We'll get some AC going for you. >> Please, sir. >> Anything in your socks? >> No. >> Pick them up. >> Am I? >> Yes. >> Please, sir, help me. Help me. >> No, no, no. >> Please, please, please. >> All right. Let the fire department check you out. Okay. >> Please. I don't want the fire department to check you. >> You have to. If you get tased, you have to get to that guard. >> Sir, I'm okay. Please give me another chance. Please. Please. I have a baby. Oh my god. I just had a baby. I didn't get off. I forgive you. I don't want to go to jail. Please. >> Just taser clearance. >> Okay. >> I won't be. >> I'm going to pull my car around. >> Did you get hit with a taser? Hello. Mon'nique was charged with retail theft, resisting an officer with violence, battery on a law enforcement officer, providing a false name to law enforcement, and violation of probation due to an outstanding warrant. A minor theft can quickly turn into far more serious criminal charges when someone chooses to flee, resist arrest, assault an officer, or lie about their identity. Cooperating with law enforcement and accepting responsibility early can prevent a situation from escalating and avoid additional legal consequence. [music] Next, watch as two shoplifterss fled together, only to end up face down on the ground together moments later. Hand behind your back. >> Not moving. >> I'm not moving, sir. >> On the 11th of April, 2025, police were dispatched to a Target parking lot after receiving a report that two suspects, a man and a woman, had attempted to flee after stealing merchandise. When officers arrived at the scene, both suspects refused to comply with every command given by the police. >> Get down. Get down. Get down. Get down. Get down. >> Get out. Get out. >> Get out. >> Get out. >> She's running. She's running. Go get her. I know. >> I know running by your computer. Get on the ground. Get on the ground. Get on the ground. Hand behind your back. [screaming] >> Stop fighting. >> Stop fighting. >> Stop fighting. >> Stop fighting. >> Stop fighting. >> Stop fighting before you get again. Turn around. get on your back. >> Since only one officer had arrived at the scene at that moment, he chose to apprehend the woman first instead of the man. [music] However, the male suspect was not able to escape and was soon arrested by other officers who responded to the radio dispatch. I'm sorry. Did they get the other guy? >> Yes. >> They got him. >> I need a unit in front of your competitor. >> They got him. They got him. >> Get on your back. >> Get on your back before I You again. >> Get on your stomach. >> Get on your stomach before I You again, please. >> Get on your stomach. >> Get on your stomach. >> Turn around. >> Turn around. >> Turn around. >> You're making it worse. I don't want to go to jail. >> Okay. >> With just one statement, I don't want to go to jail. The woman indirectly admitted to her involvement in the theft. However, despite pleading not to be arrested, she continued resisting and made it difficult for the officers to place her in handcuffs. >> Turn around and get on your stomach. >> I don't want to go to jail. >> Get on your stomach. >> Am I going to jail? >> You're about to if you don't get on your stomach. >> Okay. But >> get on your stomach. >> I'm not going to go to jail. >> Get on your stomach. >> No. No. No. No. No. No. Turn around on your stomach. >> Lay down on your stomach. >> Place your hand behind your back. You know that. >> Okay. >> Stop playing. >> I'm not playing with you. Get on your stomach. Get on your stomach. [crying] >> [crying] >> 11 females still fighting. >> I don't want to get you. You got my taser. You're about to get me. >> Stop fighting. >> I get me. I get me. I get me. I get >> you. You have one detail. >> Through her actions alone, the woman had already earned herself an additional charge of resisting arrest. The same went for the man who also ended up face down on the ground after refusing to comply with officer's commands. >> Got one male detained. >> One running, one male detain. running towards me. I'm not moving, sir. >> Your hands al 51. Deploy. Oh [ __ ] Deploy. Turn around. >> You got any weapons on you? >> No, sir. >> Am I going to find anything in that car? What the [ __ ] were you running back in there for? >> No, I was trying to find that. She carrying to >> three >> with the mask covering his identity. You could probably tell he was up to no good, right? However, after being arrested, he tried to shift the blame instead of taking responsibility for [music] his actions. >> You got nothing else on you cuz I'm telling you, I'm going to search the out of you. >> I ain't got nothing else. >> I just left my house, bro. She just called to come pick her over here, bro. >> All right. >> Um, evidence bags. Let's start getting the stuff sorted out and separated. >> He chased her down and got her over by uh Congress. 275. >> He was reaching back in the car. Would be surprised if we find gun in here. I had to yank him out of the car. >> I don't know if he had a gun. Oh, you're >> He was He went here and then started reaching in the back. >> So, it clicked. So, did you pull him out of the car? >> Oh, yeah. I yanked his ass out cuz he was reaching. >> Why did you >> Huh? >> Why? >> Yeah. He was >> They saw us. He tried to dip that way once he saw us pull up. Yeah. >> She took off running. Soon as Hughes walked that way, he tried to run back in the car and started reaching back here. So I grabbed his yanked him out. >> So you've been over there. You need another statue. >> I'm good here. >> I got to >> I'd be willing to bet this is all stolen. >> Okay. >> Um, >> do you guys need somebody to go to Target? >> Yes. >> Let's go. Judging by the amount of merchandise inside the vehicle, you could tell this probably wasn't their first time. It certainly appeared to be part of a stolen goods operation. Officers tried to question the woman further, but she continued avoiding responsibility. [music] Now, listen, I'm going to be honest with you. There was more fent found in the car. Is that yours or is that his? >> Huh? >> His. Okay. Do you know where he got it from? >> No. Were you with him when he got it or did he have it on him before? >> Had him on before. Okay. Where did he pick you up at? >> Hey, stay with me now. Don't go back to sleep yet. >> Pills cuz she's pointing. Bro, >> trust me, anybody that knows my name tells you call anybody res. >> The suspects were charged with retail theft, resisting [music] arrest, and drug possession. Running away, resisting arrest, and trying to shift the blame only make the situation worse and often result in more serious legal consequences. Even worse, the woman continued to pretend she was innocent, [music] seemingly unaware that every one of her actions had been under surveillance. >> Oh, the clothes. The clothes. You tying the bag of clothes, you know. So, >> how are y'all doing? On the 15th of April 2024, officers responded to a Walmart after receiving a report of a theft in progress. A woman was allegedly attempting to carry out a fraudulent return by taking merchandise from inside the store and trying to return it for a refund at the customer service desk. At the time, every one of her actions was clearly captured by the store's surveillance cameras. >> She thinks she is so good. and gonna deny it. Deny it. Deny it. >> Deny till you die. That's it. >> This one's easy because >> No, she had selected them toys. What I said? I just said I saw she was fixing the bags and bags all that stuff and toys. >> Did she have anything when she came in the store? >> No, >> but that's that just the whole cart is fraudulent returns. >> Not a register register. from talking to her. See, I can th Mhm. Well, she still killed that drink. She paid for the drink. The list said she paid for the drink. She riding my register two and three. Well, I mean four and five. She left the basket. She getting another drink. Look like Yeah, she grabbing another drink. Well, I wonder how long this lady will be in here, though. >> Well, she can't walk out with with the pool, so she might as well go put the pool, though. Put everything in bags and bags and bags. >> The woman was observed continuing to collect more merchandise without any intention of paying before heading toward Walmart's Garden Center exit. Officers immediately moved in to stop her, and the situation quickly escalated. Put the phone down. Phone up. For what? >> For what? >> Do it. >> You have the right to stop on anything you say. Can it be easy to get you in the court of law? You have the right turn attorney. If you got forward attorney, we'll be appointed to you. Anytime during investigation, you can stop answering questions while we're closer. Do you understand your rights? >> Don't throw me down. >> You understand your rights? >> I thought you understand the rights away from me. >> No, I wasn't even here. >> You understand the rights that he just raised? >> Yes. But I wonder why you just did that to me. >> I told you to put in front of us and you do this. So, I'll put you against them. >> I think so. What did I do? >> Let's go. >> Let's follow. >> The woman continued to act innocent, seemingly unaware that she had been under surveillance the entire time. What do you think about the fact that she was also receiving government benefits while allegedly shoplifting? She admitted that herself as officers attempted to gather information about her. >> Where's your license at? Is it in college? No, it's not. That's probably the closest thing I have so far right now. >> ID. >> No, I don't have another father-in-law. That's bad. >> Why? Because someone tried to steal his beds. >> Well, you're going to be taking taking a charge for that as well. Yeah, >> it's all prescribed. >> It's not a prescription bottle which makes it illegal. >> So much stole by >> you have to carry you have to carry prescription prescription bottle pres. >> Okay, that's fine. >> That's why your your a lot of stuff really. >> What's your name? >> Huh? >> What's your name? >> The way your feet are moving like that was not fair. >> Oh, the way you resisted. I did not resist. I was trying to tell you I hadn't even left the store. >> I had even left the store. I was asking before I bought to come and please let me try to see if everything. >> You can look and see. It was clear that the evidence of the woman's shoplifting could no longer be denied. As for her earlier resistance, the officers explained that her actions could also lead to additional legal consequences. >> When you when an officer tells you in a clear way, that's resistant. And at that moment, >> I didn't even realize I was pulled away all the time. >> It doesn't matter if you realize it or not. The moment that you start to pull away, it makes it look like you're going to drown, right? That's what we think. So that's why you got escorted to the ground. >> I was looking for help on the ground. >> Yes. Because at that moment, >> the moment you start to resist at all, >> we have to for our safety and yours, we have to get you as quickly as possible because we don't know what you're going to do. Yeah. >> Do you have somebody that's here to pick you up? >> So, there's nobody here right at this. >> The chick that was filming you. >> What about the chick that was in the SUV right across? >> Darren Ray was charged with theft, prohibited acts, resisting an officer, and a bench warrant. Choosing dishonesty over responsibility can create far greater consequences than the original mistake. Cooperating with law enforcement and respecting legal procedures is always the better path than resisting or trying to avoid accountability. Next, the woman was revealed to be part of a much larger fraud operation targeting Walmart stores across the country. >> You know, lying to the police is a crime. >> I'm lying. >> Yes, you are lying because there's no record on that name. >> Oh my goodness. They get the mouth. >> This is the all the places that >> Holy Toledo. >> On the 31st of October 2024, police arrested a woman after she tried to flee from a Walmart. Authorities confirmed that she was linked to a fraud ring responsible for causing more than $140,000 in losses across 45 Walmart stores. This is what happened next after she was [music] taken to the store's loss prevention office. >> You're being detained right now. We're investigating a crime and we believe that you and your husband or that your partner just committed. Okay. >> Yes. >> Yep. >> So, you're not free to go. >> Please. Can I go to toilet? >> Please. I beg you. >> You're stay No, you're staying right here. >> No, you come with me. >> No, you're staying right here. >> Please, I beg you. >> No. 354. You covered me cuz I remember >> you put me on um suspicious search. >> I have one detained in code at the moment. You have your ID on you. You care if I open and get your ID? >> I give you my ID. >> I can get Okay. Is it in here? >> I give you the ID. Please, can you open my >> Just tell me where it is. I'll get it if you tell me where it is. There's one in my bag >> right here. This one? >> Yeah. No, this one >> back here. >> Yeah, this one. >> Is it in here? Okay. >> This the New York New York. >> Georgia. >> New York. >> New York. [snorts] Okay. >> I put my this one back. >> She handed over her identification. But did you really think someone involved in a fraud scheme would make it that easy? It didn't take long for the officers to realize there was something wrong with her identification. >> Last of Vladimir Victor Lincoln Adam David Ida Mary Ida Robert first of Jessica John Edward Sam Sam Ida Charles Adam date of birth 1995. >> Oh, here's a whole list of her aliases. Let's see if any of those are on it. >> Okay. [snorts] >> All the names she provided. >> All right. So, what's your real name? Jessica. >> Jessica. >> Okay. You know, lying to the police is a crime. >> I'm not lying. >> Yes, you are lying because there's no record on that name. >> You are lying. >> No, I'm not lying. >> Yes, you're lying. You want to give me your real name or do you want to get charged with giving an officer fake identification information? >> This one is my name. >> It's not your name. >> It's my name. I swear it's my name. >> You have another uh ID in there. Um, can you work on building PC for the Meanwhile, Walmart employees searched the company's internal system for records related to [music] the woman. They quickly uncovered her previous cases along with the financial losses linked to her past [music] fraud incidents. >> 32. >> Okay. So, how how are they going to break this with her to we're going to have to get the video of her hand because who she handed to and he was he was there from part of this, you know, him and Cole. You might have to talk to all three of them because they were kind of all she so much stuff. There's still more stuff up there that didn't get >> so pull it all together. I will get that >> and get it where I can build this because if we arrest her tonight, this is a felony charge, they have 72 hours for our detectives to be able to run this case. >> Okay? >> And push the charges through. >> So when when she goes to jail, it starts the clock ticking. That's why it needs to be fairly solid when I leave here with her. >> Okay. I do everything I can. >> Yep. So yeah. Go ahead. >> So I'm going to go get the rest of this stuff. So, right now it looks like you stole $3,200, something like that. So, um that's what we're working through. Okay. >> Shortly afterward, the officer approached the store employee to find out exactly what had happened during the incident that day. >> It was just normally like it was kind of weird cuz she kept asking for like at first she started with watches and then she started like asking for like the GoPro, like headphones and like all stuff. >> Yeah. And the husband was asking for like VS and like other stuff. >> Mhm. >> And so eventually when he was checking the lady out, she ended up not wanting some stuff and then when they were counting the money um she took it back and that's when I saw her like cripping her like bills. >> Okay. And then um she kept like eyeing me cuz she saw me like standing behind my ear and she kept eyeing me. That's why I kind of like looked suspicious. >> Mhm. Okay. So, had she already paid for the item she had? How did how did that work before the switch? >> Before that um check out that you you saw um [music] she had checked out that stuff before and that's when I went to go look for. >> Okay. And then when did you at what point did you see the switch her do the switch? >> I didn't see her take the money. I just saw her finger like divide because um Isaiah stood up in front of her. So I didn't see her like stop anything. I just saw like it was weird that she >> Okay. >> So as when Isaiah was between you and her, you thought >> I did. Yeah. >> With the evidence and witness statements continuing to confirm the woman's actions, the officers had seen enough. They made their decision. >> Oh, you're not even looking at this. >> She took all of it back. >> Okay, >> here we go. >> All right, we got hard evidence. >> Took it back. >> Yep. >> Okay, so you're under arrest for and it's going to be a felony charge for stealing around $3,000. We're going to get the exact number. You're under arrest. Okay, stand up. >> I'm going to unhook her and take this off. >> [laughter] >> He was cited back in May in Bing, California or something like that for doing the same thing. And it mentions in the very vague report that her New York ID is fraudulent with the same ID numbers that you guys ran. So she has a physical hobby. >> It sounds like it's fraudulent, but I don't see anything about like what her actual name did to her is. >> Okay. >> So apparently she's done this before. This was back in May of this year. They're part of a huge uh theft ring and um you should see the data that Walmart has on them. I mean, they're hitting y'all's Walmart, too. They're hitting every Walmart pretty much, but all over the US. It's like millions of dollars. They're they're Romanian um gang or whatever. Not >> After arresting the woman, the officers returned to the store to gather more information about her history within Walmart's system. What they found was staggering. He told me that she never touched the money after she laid it down and that he counted each staff several times and then she I asked him three or four times because I couldn't figure out I was trying to figure out if it was short at all. >> Yeah. >> Yep. Sure can. How many of them are right here? Right here. Look at that. Oh my goodness. >> Look at the amount. >> This is the all the places that >> Holy Toled. >> Let me take a photo down. >> I can go a little bit down if you want. >> $800,000. >> And all the faces they hit. >> There's got to be an investigator on this. I don't know. >> There's got to be. >> One of them got caught. Cost though got caught like two weeks ago. He's over. >> Oh, what's the name you said? >> Cost Montel. >> So that kind of sounds like the name the other officer said her her real name was or something like that. >> Something like that. >> The woman was convicted of secondderee theft, organized retail theft, forgery, and criminal impersonation. Fraud schemes may appear sophisticated, but surveillance footage, witness statements, and a thorough investigation can expose the truth and lead to accountability. Do not blink because in the next moment, chaos returned once again with this woman. >> Somebody brandished a firearm on me and my a 10-year-old child. FEBRUARY. >> YOU JUST MY DAUGHTER JUST [screaming] RIPPED MY DAUGHTER. >> On February 14th, 2025, police received a 911 call from a woman who alleged that a man had brandished a firearm and threatened her at Walmart. Here was how the story unfolded as told through her own account. >> Hi. So, I was like coming into the store, right? And then I noticed like two people that I have issues with and I'm like on a little push cart. I'm going and like they're trying to have a conversation with me. I don't want to have no conversation. We got to get groceries and go home. >> Okay. >> And then she's like lagging behind me. I'm like I'm talking to these people and like I have seen him like when he was standing there he was like this with his hand in his pocket like trying to push something out and I'm like what the hell? Come on. And then when we got probably like by the meat, like the fruit and the meat, the bread, she was like, "He pulled the gun out." And I was like, "Why don't you just tell me that as soon as we get over here?" Like, so I just tried to grab my >> What part of the store did that happen? >> Right up at the front. >> At the front over the subway by the alarm. There's some thing right there. >> Did he say anything when he pulled the gun? >> Um, he was like >> Or did he just like go like this? >> Is that what he did? Right. As soon as as soon as he said something to me, I ignored him because I have problems with this person. So, I'm like not even allowed to talk to them. >> Is he still in the store? >> I don't think so. I was on push card and out the >> Do you have a photo of him? >> Uh, I might be able to look up like them on Facebook. >> She recounted the incident in a highly dramatic manner, but when she was questioned further, suspicion gradually surfaced as she failed to provide clear details about her own story. >> Did he like make a threat towards you when he pulled the gun at? I don't know because I'm screaming at her to come on. I'm screaming at her to come on cuz obviously scared at that point. So I'm like, "Can you come on?" >> Is this your daughter? >> No, it's my cousin. My cousin's not here. You know, my kids are at home. I'm just here to grab some juice, get some eggs. And >> of course, yeah, but you didn't see the gun. >> No, I did see him. I seen him trying to pull something out. That's what I just said to you. I seen him trying to pull something out. >> But you weren't able to identify what it was. >> Oh, I can tell you exactly what it looked like. black black holster black in where his hand was. I can tell you exactly like >> we can check if there's a no contact order. >> Yeah, I know for a fact there is I had to sign it. >> All right. What? Do you have your ID on you? >> Yeah. >> Thank you. >> Up to that point, the woman appeared cooperative, but her demeanor shifted noticeably once police uncovered certain details in her records. >> Okay. So, you don't have a protection order with anyone. The protection order states that you can't possess firearms. That's what it says. >> No, I have a no contact order with him. I know I don't. I just ran your name. >> It's not underneath that name. I've been married since then. >> Okay. But when your supervisor, please, >> he's not going to come out for this. When we run this, >> he's not going to come out for this. >> When we run this, ma'am, this number right here, your social is linked to that. >> When you get married at the DMV, you get a new driver's license identification number. I know that for a fact. I have my own driver's license and that one, my new one. >> Please call your supervisor or I'll call the non-emergency number and request. >> What do you need the supervisor for? >> Because you're not doing your job. You just told me I have a I don't have a no contact order and you said just because it's not in that. >> He's going to tell you the same thing. >> Um, somebody needs to come up here right now because he's trying to tell me I don't have a no contact order and he wasn't even going to try to ask or have any explanation. He's just trying to shrug me off. So, She made an additional 911 call simply because the situation did not go the way she wanted. And that very decision led to consequences she never intended. >> What is my emergency? >> Uh, somebody brandished a firearm on me and my a 10-year-old child. He's here now. >> We were already here. Put the phone down. >> Are you supervisor? >> He's not. >> Put the phone down. Alissa, >> I'm on the phone with non-emergency. Please stop. >> Okay. I miss you. >> No, no, NO. YOU'RE UNDERESTIMATING UNDER. My kids are at home. Wait, what are you GUYS DOING? A FIREARM IS BRANDISHED on me. Please help. No, she told me to stay here. >> Stop. I have heart. Please. >> Wait, let me speak to the supervisor. Let me >> Wait. >> No. Help me. I didn't do anything. >> No. Please. I didn't do anything. Stop resisting. Help. >> Wait. going to get sprayed IF YOU KEEP IT UP. >> I'M NOT RESISTING. I'M YOU WILL GET SPRAYED IF YOU KEEP IT UP. Cuff me. I'm requesting A SUPERVISOR. >> THAT'S OBSTRUCTION TOO. >> Please help me. Help me. I'm How was I obstructing? >> I'm not doing anything. PLEASE, SOMEBODY HELP RECORD THIS. Please >> just walk and see. Chaos erupted as the woman insisted on portraying herself as the victim. And the disruption she created continued even as she was being escorted out. >> I didn't, babe. I had my arms out. You >> beat me. >> What's You're hurting me. Please. I have a bad shoulder. I have a torn rotator cuff. Please. Please. You're hurting me. I'm serious. Please stop. You're hurting me. And you guys tried to slam me. I was not resisting. I was on the phone with I was on the phone with an operator. An operator told me a supervisor was on the way. >> You cannot arrest me when an operator. >> No. An operator told me a supervisor was on the way. >> Which one do WE HAVE TO FIX? >> FACE THE CAR. >> Please help. >> Let me know. I didn't misuse you. I have a torn rotator c. Please. A supervisor. >> That's why we're fixing that ma'am. >> We're trying to fix it and you keep pulling AGAINST IT. >> I'M NOT. I HAVE A TORN ROTATOR. >> Hold still and zip your mouth. It has to go up front. >> No, that's not the way it works. >> It does. I have a torn robe hand. >> You You resist arrest and that's why >> I cannot resist arrest. You guys did not tell me when I was going to >> Wait a second. Please, can I please? I requested a supervisor and they said a supervisor was on the way. >> You don't call 911 for that. >> I didn't call 911. I was on the phone with the regular department and they transferred me. I was on the I was on the phone with the non-emergency. He transferred. >> That's not what dispatch said. Yes, it was. He transferred me. I have it in my call log. It's on there. >> Okay. County has live 911, which here it shows who's calling >> at what time it's calling. >> I was transferred to them. >> She claims she had been threatened and insisted her shoulder was injured. Yet, even that seemed insufficient as she soon latched on to another issue. >> Please. Sit. >> I need a supervisor. Please, I can't go to jail. I just had a newborn. I JUST HAD A NEWBORN. MY UTERUS, PLEASE. HELP, [screaming] PLEASE. I JUST GOT A BABY. THEY'RE HURTING ME. PLEASE, PLEASE. >> WELL, IF YOU WOULD SAVE THEM, WOULD IT? >> MY SHOULDER. [screaming] I HAVE MY [screaming] BABY. HELP. [screaming] Somebody help. YOU JUST MY SHOULDER JUST RIPPED MY [screaming] SHOULDER. I AM A SUCKER. I NEED A SUPERVISOR. PLEASE, I'M A WOMAN. [screaming] STOP. YOU CANNOT do this TO ME. >> PLEASE. PLEASE. I'm a woman. Please don't do that. >> GET IN THE CAR. >> I DIDN'T DO NOTHING. >> YOU'VE BEEN GIVEN many opport. [screaming] I CAN'T GO TO JAIL. >> I CAN'T. I HAVE A KID AT HOME. PLEASE. MY HUSBAND DOESN'T GET OFF FOR ANOTHER 3 HOURS. PLEASE. My cousin has to go to work in 2 hours. Please call Call an ambulance. Call an ambulance. HURRY, PLEASE. I HAVE THE WORST ANXIETY. PLEASE. >> I can't breathe. Call an ambulance. Help. Call an ambulance. >> She's resisting getting in the back. Let's get another UNIT OVER. >> NO. NO. NO. CALL AN AMBULANCE. I CAN'T BREATHE. I can't breathe. Help. I need my please, [laughter] [screaming] please. >> She was charged with two counts of resisting an officer without violence, battery on a law enforcement officer, and misuse of 911. The charges were later amended to resisting an officer without violence and misuse of 911. This case showed how exaggeration, inconsistency, and misuse of emergency services can quickly turn a claim of victimhood into serious legal consequences. Next, the women had also packed their vehicle [music] full of stolen merchandise. >> I can't say I knew somebody was stealing. She's telling you all that's her stuff. >> Well, I can't read your mind. That's for sure. But you got to you got to look at it from our perspective. >> She's telling you that it's her stuff. >> You know, I agree with that. >> On the 23rd of January 2025, police received a report from a TJ Maxx store reporting that a theft had occurred. The suspect was believed to have a prior criminal record related to stealing merchandise from stores. This was what happened when police arrived at the scene. >> In the past, had she just pushed the car right out past the point of sale? >> Okay. >> Yeah. She She has a uh laundry bin inside the cart. That's where she's been stuffed and everything. >> So, she's either going to just push the cart or just pick up the laundry. >> Have we dealt with her before or do you guys just know of her? >> Yeah. So, we actually have two charges with her out of this store and our marshals up the street. >> Okay. So that's why we kind of called you guys ahead of time. She already has like charging that with you guys. >> Gota, put it in the car. >> Okay. So yeah, she has a magnet. So she's like defeating our security devices and stuff. >> All right. Well, we're standing off to the side, Braden. So, I mean, I don't know if her driver is just not paying attention, but [laughter] >> yeah, she hasn't taken her phone out or anything, so >> Okay. >> I thought she was a bad company, but it was a magnet. >> Yeah. >> You said she's still up front by hers. >> Yeah, she's still in handbag. She just selected a a lower dollar non-tethered one. >> Okay. >> That's in her hand. There's a lot of customers in handbags, so it's probably why she's got another lower dollar one in her hand. Can you go again with the uh description of what she's wearing? >> Yeah, she's wearing a What is it? A blue Nike hoodie. >> It's a blue hoodie, black sweatpants, black coat. She has a tattoo on her throat. >> So, even the store employees clearly understood the suspect's scheme. This time, she was believed not to be acting alone. At this moment, the police approached those suspects and they were completely annoyed by the presence of the police. >> Yeah. >> Hello. >> Why don't just have a seat over here for me? >> Can you hear me? >> Do me a favor. Just have a seat. >> No, wait. I want to know what's going on. >> So, right now, we're investigating the shoplifting that's going on. Okay. >> Mhm. >> So, that's what's going on. >> She didn't do all this. She didn't do anything. Okay, I got you. We're just We're just here figuring it out. If you if you don't mind having a seat, that would be appreciated. Thank you. >> So, what's going on? Obviously, I already looked in the car. There's a bunch of stuff in the car. >> Yeah, I took it. I took it. We just We ain't even going to >> Yeah, she asked for a ride. You know, >> she don't have nothing to do with it. I didn't. >> So, I don't know what's going on. That's why I'm >> You got to be aware that uh you can get the conspiracy charge. >> Why would I get I didn't know. >> She didn't know. She didn't She didn't know anything. That's why I'm saying right now. >> The merchandise is in your car, right? >> Okay. Once again, I didn't even go in store. You're the registered owner of the car. You're responsible for everything. >> That's my car. But once again, I didn't when you give somebody a ride, you don't know what the hell they're in this store doing. >> You're responsible for everything inside the car. >> Okay. >> Okay. >> How am I responsible ID? >> I don't have anything. My stuff is in my car. >> Okay. >> You don't have your ID on you, man? >> No. >> Yeah. She asked for a ride. I can't >> You're responsible for everything that's inside your car. >> You can't tell me that if I didn't know what was going on, sir. But okay. >> Cuz you see the stolen merchandise in your car. >> How would I know if anything stolen if she went in the store? I don't know what she's doing. I didn't go in there. I just got my mouth done. That's the only reason why I didn't go in a store. >> The woman in the pink hat avoided involvement by all means, as if she was completely innocent, while the other person began to admit involvement in a store. >> And between Burlington Cone Factory and TJ Maxx, did you go in any other stores? >> No. >> Okay. >> And I didn't I walked in TJ Maxx and walked out. >> I got you. Okay. So, you didn't you don't have anything on you from TJ Maxx? >> No, I don't have nothing. >> I got you. Got you. I know it's cold. Just do me a favor and just keep your hands out of your pockets. That's all I ask. Before Burlington Coat Factory, did you go in any stores? >> Um, no. We I went to the Deer Mall. Okay. >> But that's it. >> I got you. >> I just went in the mall and came out too. I didn't go anywhere else. >> So, the merchandise that's in the car right now? >> It's from Brother. >> Okay. Any of it from Deer Mall? >> No. >> I didn't take nothing from there. >> I got you. >> All right. Did you ID her? >> Not yet. >> Do you have your ID on you? Mhm. It's in the car. >> It's in the car. >> Is that your car? >> Yeah. >> You're a registered owner? >> Mhm. >> All right. >> Do you know your social security number? >> I'll let you read it, but I don't want you touching the back. >> Oh, okay. Nema. I did. >> Well, so right now >> you can't say I knew somebody was stealing and she's telling you all that's her stuff. >> Well, I can't read your mind. That's for sure. But you got to you got to look at it from our perspective. >> She's telling you that it's her stuff. >> I got you. >> Just cuz I'm sitting in the car, I just didn't go. >> Faced with her friend's admissions, the woman in the pink hat showed no surprise, as if she was not unfamiliar with it. However, due to her potential involvement in the case, the police were forced to explain what she could be facing. >> So, I understand that. So, right now, you're just detained because of this entire investigation. >> She admitted to the stolen stuff being in your vehicle. So, that's why we're just still here. >> Like, feel me? >> We'll take it step by step. We're just not going to rush through everything. Okay. Where'd you pick her up from? >> From my house. I live in >> So you live in vinyl, do you picked her up from her house? >> I put my hood on if that's okay. >> That's fine. >> Yeah. Um Yeah. You want your car? >> I'm not even parked by that store. So how would >> Yeah. I don't even point to the fact that you guys are working together. Both of you are just clean at this point. All right. So, we can go search the car. All right. Cuz they're going to be cuffed in the front. >> Well, can we go over there? Like, >> we're in the car. So, you guys can say one. >> So, what do we I I don't want to get in the car. I'm okay. >> So, you guys are going to get in the car. Okay. >> So, what are we getting in the car? >> Search your car. >> Okay. Then after that, what's next? >> Well, then we'll go figure out what the value amount of the shopping items are. All right. >> You said we're getting a ticket, >> a glorified ticket. So you guys are going to be arrested on a senator like shopping and you'll be brought back to your car once we're done with the process. Okay. All right. I'm in the front real fast. >> Shortly after the suspects were handcuffed while another group of officers inspected the associated vehicle. The items inside clearly revealed the scale of the theft operation involved. >> Yeah. I just did a back of the hand to get the uh stuff out of her. Guess they just filled >> right here. Really >> good spot. >> Yeah. Could you just Yeah. Give us some space. Yeah. All that stuff back there. Nothing. >> I'm sure that this is going to be shot as well. Yeah. Yeah. She's saying it's all all from uh Brley Coac. >> Tool. >> Shoplifting tools. >> The woman was charged with shoplifting and conspiracy to commit theft. Involving yourself with people engaged in theft does not shield you from responsibility, association, and presence can still lead to serious legal consequences, especially when evidence links you to the crime scene or stolen goods.
