[Music] Think of it just as a patrol car in the sky. We are a presence overseen at deterrence and us being overhead give us a bigger picture bigger totality what what is going on in the scene and we can give the ground officers a heads up on what they're walking into and hopefully maybe if we see a bad guy with a gun um we can we can stop them and change their kind of course of action and and have them better respond tactically to a scene that might be potentially dangerous. [Music] We fly an MD500 or exactly an MD530F. It is a light utility aircraft and being a lighter utility aircraft um it is a small, nimble and agile quick [Applause] aircraft. A pilot their main and sole responsibility is to safely and effectively maneuver the aircraft. The TFO does what we call the mission commander, right? So they take care of the police function of the aircraft. So that is communicating with the uh police radios to the officers, the dispatchers, running the cameras, the spotlights, and again telling the pilot where to go and where the aircraft is best suited. There's a hot spot behind there. We can see a lot of things that uh you and I can't see. Um if we have a a suspect hiding in a bush um under a car, it is a thermal imaging camera, it'll pick up just very uh differences, minute differences in heat to where it'll give us an image to where we can um uh relay that what we see to the ground guys. My heart will always be with um the street and as a patrol cop, but I just get to serve in a different capacity as a patrol cop. It's just in the sky now. So, it's it's a dream and super lucky and super fortunate that this dream is obtainable with the Mesa Police Department. I am Officer Clayton Thomas, an officer with the Mesa Police Department and I'm a part of the Mesa Police Air Support Unit as a pilot. [Music]
