Okay, you got to get up. You got to get up. >> She found it. >> Okay. >> I'm sorry about all of this, officer. I didn't know it would have led to this. I wouldn't have did it. >> What do you mean by stupid? >> I I I'm going to get in trouble. I was going to steal something. I tried to steal something. And I wasn't thinking. >> And why are you stealing stuff? >> I have no idea. >> Every day officers receive calls from shopping centers to deal with shoplifting incidents. But these suspects astonishingly go to great lengths to avoid responsibility, showing no shame as they put on elaborate and manipulative [music] performances. All of their shocking outcomes will be revealed in today's video. If you enjoy seeing how police handle difficult situations in the real world, be sure to like this video and subscribe to This Is Law. Starting with this [music] professional shoplifter whose lies began the moment she was confronted. >> I'm playing a cop. I was going to go run to the bathroom cuz I have to take a [ __ ] I swear to god, I'm not lying. >> You have any ID? >> I think it's aisle she pulled it tighter something. >> Uh domestic disturbance. >> On the 16th of March, 2025, police were dispatched to Walmart after receiving a report of a woman who had left the store after concealing merchandise. When officers approached her, she denied stealing and gave them a suspicious story about what had happened. >> Hello. You know why we're here? >> No. >> No? Okay. Um yeah, just keep your hands out. >> Oh, it's in my car back in my >> Okay, that's fine. >> Can I put it >> Yeah, just put it in there and keep your hands out of your pockets, please. >> I don't know why they were assuming that I was They just kicked me out of the store and just for >> Okay. All right, well, we're doing a shoplifting investigation, so we're trying to figure out >> They saw I didn't take nothing. I mean I'm not from here. >> No, where are you from? >> From Grant County. >> Uh-huh. >> Yeah, I was shopping and I got to the garden center and I had everything and cuz I'm trying to get back home. >> Where do you live? >> This lady assumed that I guess >> Okay, where do you live? >> I live in Granite County, Silver Creek. >> And the lady assumed what? >> This one right there assumed that I was I guess stealing because I had things in a duffel bag. I had the boxes from the um cosmetics where I was getting my hygiene. I had them in boxes. So like I was still going to pay for them in the the bag was still like like left open, you know? >> Okay. >> Um and then she started saying, "Are you just trying to come up?" Like I don't I don't know if she thinks that I'm familiar, but I'm not from here. >> Okay. >> Like I'm just trying to get home, guys. Like >> So you're saying it was never your intention to steal it? >> No. >> Okay. >> No, and I didn't. And that's why like when she walked up and started assuming that I was going to steal, I just handed them back to her. I said, "If that's the case, then here." >> Okay. >> Ask her. I just handed them back. >> So >> And I >> So, she put the merchandise into her own bag, which made the store employees suspicious. However, according to the report, she still tried to leave the store, forcing the officers to explain the situation to her. >> The actual crime happens when you conceal the items. >> Well, what's concealing? >> Put them in something else. >> Oh, so okay. >> So, in in in the eyes of the law, right? You know, obviously when you walk out the store, it's a shoplifting. >> Okay, but there's so many of you guys like >> Because we are in the inner city right now. It's okay. Can you find out on your phone and find out if they're going to charge or just trespass? Um so, in the eyes of the law if you grab an item and you take off the tag, that's shoplifting. I I know. I'm just giving you the examples. >> And when I went into garden center, I ain't going to lie to you guys. I wanted to like I wanted to step out here and I did. I started hitting my vape. >> Okay. That's why you're going to garden center. >> Yeah, and then I got my bags and I was without the basket cuz I had the basket. But I'm telling you guys, I have to I was going to go run to the bathroom cuz I have to take a [ __ ] guys. I swear to god. I'm not lying. >> have an ID on you? >> I don't. I don't have a I'm not from here, guys. I'm not I'm trying to get back home. I came up here >> People who aren't from here will still have IDs, okay? So, have you ever had an ID in New Mexico? You have? Okay. >> Um yeah, if you guys look at the camera, you guys can see I was hitting my vape. >> Okay. Just as she had claimed, the officer then went into the loss prevention office to review the surveillance footage, where he clearly discovered evidence of her wrongdoing. >> Here is where she selected the bags. She had a duffel bag at the bottom that she got from uh luggage, and then she selected this bag here. This is the purse. I think in this aisle, she pulled it tighter or something. Over here, you'll see her while she did the stuffing. >> Okay, but the paper that is inside, huh? >> Mhm. I think there she was going to conceal, but I think since the management passed by, she got spooked. >> But, let me take a picture of the the bags out here. Cuz this is all that she took, right? >> Yeah. >> So, I don't know. I already took them. >> In addition, the woman repeatedly mentioned a man who was with her, leading the officers to suspect that he could also be involved in the incident. He also raised suspicions when the officers approached and questioned him. >> Pretty good. Let's go over here and talk real quick. >> Okay. >> Do you know who she is? >> No. >> You don't know her? >> No. >> Okay. You never seen her before? >> No. >> Never seen her before? >> No. >> Okay. When did you get to the Walmart? >> Um just about an hour ago. >> How long? >> Uh about 20 minutes ago, 30 minutes ago maybe. >> 20 30 minutes ago? How long has your truck been parked here for? >> Oh, right here? >> Yeah. >> Like 15 minutes. >> 15 minutes? >> Yeah. I went back into the auto care center. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> Do you have an ID? >> Uh no. >> She says she knows you and she's implicated in a crime, so >> Oh, really? >> Yeah. Yeah, so. >> Um I don't have my wallet with me. I have my driver's license number though. >> Yeah, go ahead. Okay, so you do know her, obviously, right? >> Yeah, she's my chick. >> She's your chick. How long have you How long has she's been your chick for? >> For 5 years already. >> 5 years? Okay. Where [snorts] are you guys from? >> Selma. >> From Selma? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Um you guys got here how long ago? >> About 30 minutes ago. >> About 30 minutes ago? What was her intent to come here? >> I don't know what she was doing. >> Okay, you guys didn't discuss anything beforehand. >> No. >> About taking any merchandise, stealing anything or something? >> No, I have not. >> Okay. Does she Has she been arrested for shoplifting before? >> No, not that I know of. >> Not that you know of. You have But you've been together for 5 years, so you would know, right? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Give me Give me just 1 second. We're going to try to clarify her statements and stuff like that. >> Okay. >> Um You said you've been here 30 minutes. It didn't quite match what you got [music] us, so we want to make sure that up. >> we've been here. >> So okay. I want to just want to make sure we get that Do I have to wait? Yeah, you do. >> Okay. >> Yeah, at this point I need >> How come? What did I do What did I do? >> Okay. Well, I mean, she's shoplifted over $600 worth of stuff. You brought her here. Um there's reasonable suspicion that that you you guys could have conspired. >> All right. >> All right. >> So >> so but there's there is reasonable suspicion to to suggest that, okay? So, hang on for us and uh >> So, I get arrested for conspiracy? >> If it's conspiracy, yeah, you can be. >> But, I mean, how if I >> Okay. Hold on. We're I'm going to We'll get to you in just a minute. Just >> Returning to the woman, the evidence against her had become undeniable and the officers proceeded to place her in handcuffs. >> Hey, just give me her >> Don't talk to him. >> And You put your hands behind >> Get back. You're not going to arrest me. >> You're being detained right now. You have a arrest warrant for you for you. So, we're we're going to go ahead >> warrant? >> Yes, ma'am. >> Can you guys take me to my dad? >> No, ma'am. You're going to go to jail. >> I'm going to >> Are you uh Do you have a knife? >> She's 23. >> Oh. >> Daniel, can I talk to him, please? >> Let's go inside the unit. >> No, he's my he's my He's my husband. He's my husband. He's my husband. >> Okay. Ma'am, it's fine. We're just taking you to the the the unit. Let's go. >> Babe, can I give him my stuff? >> Yeah. >> Let's go. >> I'll I'll I'll put it on the unit and then I'll give it to him. >> Ma'am. >> Babe, I'm going to jail. Why ain't you looking at me? >> What stuff do you want to give it to him? >> He needs his towel. >> You have anything in your pocket? >> 10-11 54 11-39 copy. >> Just bring it inside the unit, man. >> Okay, I'm going to put it in the unit and then I'll give it to him. I'm going to put it >> Copy. >> After arresting the woman, the officers continued questioning the man to determine the extent of his involvement in the incident. The further they investigated, the more inconsistent his statements became. >> Well, we went in shopping, right? She told me she wanted to get some pants. So, I mean, I got what I I just got me a couple pairs of pants. And that was it. Okay. I came back to the truck. That's where Cuz I I uh I mean, I walked around with her for a while, you know what I mean? >> Mhm. >> And then she got whatever she wanted to get, and then I just came to the truck. >> Okay. >> And then I came over here cuz I wanted to get some some look at some tires and stuff. The Auto Care Center? >> It's not even open. >> Yeah, it is. >> No. >> Yeah, I have a guy who's open right now. >> Okay. >> So, when you came >> get tires. I wanted to look at tires. >> When you came in, >> Uh-huh. >> where did you park? >> Up here. >> Where? Show me. Where? Where? >> Somewhere like in the middle kind of >> Okay. Somewhere in the middle. >> Like I I can't really >> So, then you guys went inside? >> Yeah. >> How long were you shopping with her? >> Like probably 30 minutes, maybe. >> 30 minutes? >> Yeah. 20 minutes, 30 minutes. >> How long was she in here total? >> About I can't I can't tell you the truth, to be honest. >> You can't tell me the truth? >> I mean, I don't I don't know. Yeah, I don't know how long we were in there. >> So, then you got out with what you were going to get, and then you brought it You came out here. >> No, I didn't bring it. >> No, no, you came out here. >> Yeah, I just came outside. >> And you got in You got in this truck. >> Yeah. >> And you drove it over here. >> Yeah. >> And you're saying because you wanted to go to the Auto Care Center. >> Yeah. >> Listen. Do you know what that sounds like? >> I don't Why? Cuz that's what happened. You can look on the cameras. >> That I know that's what happened on the cameras. >> Yeah. >> You're lying about the reason. And it's her >> the reason? Huh? You didn't ask me why the reason was. >> do you >> What was the reason? Why'd you do all that? >> Do all what? >> Driving, getting stuff, come out here, get in the truck, and drive right here. >> Well, because I I wanted to go in through there. I >> I know the I know what you told me. I'm telling you you're lying to me about the reason. >> No, I'm I'm honestly not. >> Okay. Wait, I mean, excuse Okay. >> In the end, the woman was charged with felony shoplifting, while the man was determined to have helped drive her away from the store. >> [music] >> However, because the store did not want to pursue further charges against him, he was released with a trespass warning. [music] What do you think about the store's decision and the officer's handling of this case? [music] Do you think the man deserved to be released with only a trespass warning, or should he have faced further charges? Leave a comment and share your thoughts. Next, this man lied about everything in an attempt to steal prescription medication. >> You don't know your own birthday, either? >> You don't lie to us, please. >> I'm not lying to you. >> Well, well, we're not going anywhere. >> You are being detained. >> free to >> not going to the >> Not right now. >> On the 3rd of September, 2025, officers received a report of a suspected fraud at Walgreens. A man was believed to have used a fraudulent prescription to purchase codeine and promethazine syrup and benzonatate. As soon as officers approached him, things became even more suspicious when he repeatedly gave unusual answers. >> They said they're having an issue with prescriptions, so they're they're worried about it. Um just a second here. 1106, I'm talking to the subject by the pharmacy now. Um do you have your ID on you, man? >> Uh I don't have my ID on me right now, man. >> Okay, they say they're having an issue. They said this they're having an issue with this doctor. That this doctor doesn't like the numbers aren't working out, and they're not able to match anything, so they're not going to be able to fill that. They they came out like >> Go talk to my doctor in person and have this figured out because >> Um what's your name, man? >> Um my name is Jay. >> You don't know your last name? >> Um it's just I'm kind of tired right now, but my >> My standpoint, that's real odd that you don't know your last name. You use your mom's new married name? >> Yeah. >> Usually your born name you're getting you're getting that changed over. >> No, but I'm getting that changed over. >> Okay. Okay. So that yeah, so to say from my standpoint that's real odd that you don't know your name or anything like that. And you're like asking to look at this. Just write it. So that doesn't help with the whole this feels like a fraudulent prescription day. You know what I mean? >> Yeah. >> Yeah, that doesn't fit that doesn't look Say your first name. >> Um what was it? Jaylen. >> You don't know your own birthday either? >> Yeah. >> Do you know why he's doing this, please? >> I'm not lying. I would just And I really don't go to the doctors, so I don't actually earn this money. >> Well, we got to confirm some things first cuz it comes off like you're trying to fill a fraudulent prescription. So, we got to Don't know your Don't know your birthday. This is all telling me that this is not a legit prescription that you're trying to Yeah, it's we're investigating you filling a fraudulent prescription right now. Well, hold on. We're we're looking into some things first. I got to figure some things out and then [ __ ] you might have a seat for me. >> Clearly he was deliberately trying to hide his identity, which became even more evident when he changed his information once again. >> How old is your uncle? >> How old is my uncle? >> Uncle. >> Uncle? >> Yeah. Okay. What's What's his birthday? You know? I'm asking for yours though. I was asking for yours. >> 2003. >> What's your name? >> Um James John. >> So you So none of the information I asked for your name earlier and you gave me a different name than what you just gave her. What's your name? >> What name did I just give you? >> What is your name? I don't care what name you're giving us. What is your name? >> My name is James John. >> James John? >> Yes, sir. >> That's your whole name with your last name? John? >> Yes. >> Okay. >> And how do you spell that? >> You got a middle initial at all? >> Um no. >> Okay. So from my standpoint you've given us three different names, two different birthdays. I have no idea who you are. You have no idea who your uncle is. You don't know how to spell your last name. >> Okay, so what am I getting? >> He was clearly stumbling over his own answers. >> [music] >> Even when the officers returned to the fraudulent prescription, he became confused and uncertain about it. >> So, where did this come from? >> What do you mean? >> You [clears throat] have a prescription. You created this yourself? Are you trying to You were trying to fill fraudulent prescriptions? >> I wasn't trying to fill a fraudulent prescription. I got it from my uncle. >> You just said you created So, Okay. So, where did this come from? >> I got it in the mail. >> Who is this prescription for? You don't know your uncle's name. Your uncle's No, that's wrong. You don't know your uncle's name. So, where did you get this prescription? Did you create this? Did you make a fraudulent prescription? >> Uh no, I didn't make a fraudulent Honestly, I have nothing else to say. >> Hold Okay, well All right. Have a seat. Yes, you are, cuz we're investigating a fraudulent prescription. Have a seat for me. >> I know I'm not going to the police station. >> Have a seat for me. We're investigating a fraudulent prescription. >> We don't know that right now. >> We don't know that right now. Have a seat. Oh, no, we're not going anywhere. You are being detained. We're not free to leave. >> I'm not going to the >> Not right now. You are being held for investigation. >> For what? >> For filling a fraudulent prescription. >> I didn't fill out the fraudulent >> That's what we're looking into. >> But I didn't do it. >> Okay, that's what we're looking into. Okay? I need you to have a seat for me. All right? >> But I didn't fill out a fraudulent prescription. >> That's what we're looking into, cuz none of the things you're saying is making any sense. So, that's what we're looking into. That's what we're trying to figure out. >> Under the pressure of the officers' relentless questioning, the man was eventually forced to admit everything, including the motive behind his actions. >> You don't know your uncle's name. >> Well, okay, look. I'll be honest with you. >> Okay. >> I got it off the internet. I printed it out. Photoshopped it. But, it was whatever. I used it for my uncle and it didn't work because >> he's sick right now and I thought that would be able to help. >> So you are in fact going to fill a forged prescription. >> Um >> You got it off the internet and you photoshopped it to change the information to try to come here and fill a forged prescription. >> No, he's already had a refills of this whatever, yeah. I filled out a forged prescription. prescription. I printed it out. I didn't fill it out. It was already filled out. It was already printed. >> Okay. You You said you changed some information to try to put your I put a new name on there. >> Yeah, abbreviation. I just printed out the thing that I came up with. >> Okay. So is your uncle sick at all or is that just made up, too? >> No, it's not made up. My uncle actually is sick. >> So you just happened to find a prescription online that fit your uncle's name? >> He found it and then he asked me was I able to print it out because I didn't know. >> So who found it, him or you? Because you just told me a second you found it. >> He found it. >> Okay. >> I'm sorry about all of this. If I had have known it would have led to this, I wouldn't have done it. I don't have any offenses. I was just trying to help my uncle. >> And you have no idea on you? Nothing? No way to identify yourself? >> Clearly there was no longer any way for him to avoid his guilt. At that point the officers made their decision. >> Stand up, man. Can you stand up for me? >> Well, I'm being arrested. >> Yeah. Put your hands behind your back. I'm going to walk one in cuff you. Do you have anything sharp uh on you that will poke me or cut me when I pat you down? >> No, you could probably pat me down right now and see. >> Any weapons on you? >> No, no, sir. >> No needles of any kind? >> No. >> And this is where I can get out the facts. Does he have the facts with him or the Do you have the facts with him? I'm going to see if I can get that home number. >> Yes. >> Okay. You got to take him >> I'll put him in the back. I'm going I'm sorry. You are in custody at this moment, so you have no rights. >> Officers found a black ski mask and $3.35 on him. The prescription he attempted to use was worth $298.99 at Walgreens, though it was unclear how he intended to pay for the medication. The man was charged with forgery, a class three felony. [music] Trying to deceive authorities only makes the consequences worse. Once the evidence exposes the truth, admitting responsibility is far better than continuing to create more lies. Next, the woman even attempted to attack someone right in front of the officers. >> I OWE YOU. I OWE YOU. >> YO, YOU GOT TO STOP. >> I OWE YOU. I OWE YOU. I OWE YOU. WHAT I OWE YOU? >> ON THE 15TH OF JULY, 2024, police approached a woman who was accused of leaving a Red Lobster without paying and threatening an employee. Her behavior when officers arrived only further proved just how volatile the situation had become. >> He told me I was weird. I don't care. >> Okay. >> So, you can do what you GOT TO DO. >> ALL RIGHT, you're not leaving. >> Do what I got to >> You're not leaving. >> Do what I got to do. >> Okay. >> Do what I got to do cuz I I am. Cuz I told him I was going to get money for it, he said no. So, then I'm not going to do it. I'm not going to do it. So, if we're going to do whatever we're going to do, we're going to we're going to we're going to fight it out. >> So, you're going to make the situation worse. >> He's weird. No. I'm not staying here FOR THAT [ __ ] YOU ALWAYS CALL LIKE FIVE OTHER [ __ ] that [ __ ] Y'all always call like five officers for [ __ ] It's not that [ __ ] serious. Like the [ __ ] Even he know that. >> IS SHE FIVE OFFICERS HERE? >> Every time I go to jail, it's five, six officers. For what? Like we It could be a simple [laughter] a simple >> about because I have >> No, you're weird. I just want the [ __ ] out of you, [ __ ] He weird. I said I'll give YOU THE MONEY FOR IT. >> SHE'S LYING. She's lying. >> He said I said I'll give you THE MONEY. I'M NOT LYING. I'M ON MY KIDS' LIFE. [ __ ] I TOLD YOU I JUST WANT THE [ __ ] OUT OF YOU. [ __ ] the [ __ ] out of you, [ __ ] I just want the [ __ ] out of you. I said I'll give you the money. And you SAID GET ANOTHER OFFICER HERE. AND I SAID I'll give you the [ __ ] money. So, if you want to fight about it, we can do that. I don't give a [ __ ] If this [ __ ] [ __ ] up, I'm about to slap the [ __ ] out of him. So, I'll get you for assault, too. Get me for that, too. Make sure y'all do that. I'll put this [ __ ] on for [ __ ] [ __ ] like that. [ __ ] y'all. Y'all [ __ ] on some [ __ ] like that. He said we weird. He know that. You're going to call back here. [ __ ] you. [ __ ] you. >> How much does she owe you? >> What I owe you? What I owe you? >> I'm not talking TO YOU. LISTEN. LET ME SPEAK TO HIM. >> What I owe you? What I owe you? >> No, you're not. >> Her behavior continued to support the allegations, and fearing that the situation could escalate into an unnecessary confrontation, THE OFFICERS QUICKLY DETAINED HER. >> WHAT I OWE YOU? >> YOU'RE UNDER ARREST. >> YEAH. >> What I I No. YOU'RE NOT GOING TO WAIT. >> [clears throat] >> NOW YOU'RE UNDER ARREST. >> THE [ __ ] YOU TAKE A FIGHTING STANCE ON ME? >> STOP RESISTING. >> WAIT. LET ME GO. LET ME GO. THAT'S NOT I don't know. You're not going to get You're not going to get No. Did you do that? >> Right after handcuffing the woman, officers received additional information that she had previously attempted to steal from the store, [music] prompting them to question her further. Unfortunately for her, some stolen items were also found in her bag. Is this silverware? What's that? Is it silverware or lip gloss or not? Get his info. Get the manager's info. I thought you were leaving town. The officers then approached the store employees to find out what had happened earlier inside the restaurant. >> Did she pay for any of it? How did she get the to-go? The cell copy? Can we take this? And that's your fork and knife, right? All right, let's let's get her in. >> During the transport, the woman repeatedly appeared worried about her fate, something that was clearly absent when she carried out her earlier actions. >> Okay, I'm sorry. What was your question? Sorry. Oh, like a prison uniform? Uh not not at our high Have you been arrested before? In California, did they make you do that? It well, you did. Yeah, um so You were You held longer? Okay, well, you're not going to be in our custody where you'll have to change clothes or anything like that for 3 days. Uh pretty much we're going to go. You're going to be charged. Uh it seems like a theft and and resisting. And then um And then you're going to get a score. It's uh dependent on your prior criminal history. So, if you've never got arrested in Jersey I'm assuming it'll be pretty low. And if it's under a certain if it's under a certain number, you go home with a court date. And if it's over a certain number, you go to the county jail, where that's where they'll make you >> Okay, but if I never went to jail in Jersey, I should be okay. >> Yeah, you should be okay. You're not sick, injured, or ill, right? No. >> Darcia Williams was charged with theft of services, harassment, and resisting [music] arrest. She was issued a complaint summons and released. Threatening others can quickly turn a minor dispute into a criminal case. Once officers become involved, escalating the situation or resisting arrest can only lead to additional charges. Next, the woman did not even seem to realize that she would have to face the consequences of stealing. >> What do you mean by stupid? >> I I I really stole something. I did steal something. And I wasn't thinking. >> You committed felony retail theft because at the threshold of $750, that is a felony amount. Okay? >> On the 22nd of October, 2024, police were dispatched to Target after receiving a report of a theft that had occurred. The suspect was believed to be a woman who had attempted to take more than $1,200 worth of merchandise while paying only about $50 for some of the items. To get more details, let's hear the employee's statement. >> Yeah, she basically just went around the store like selecting a whole bunch of apparel, putting a whole bunch of apparel back on shelves. Um and then she started concealing it in bags that she had selected. And then uh she put the bags on the bottom of her cart, and I think one was in the her cart basket, and then she walked through the checklane, took out like six clothing items, paid for about $50 worth of stuff, and then tried to exit with the rest. >> And you guys watched it on camera the whole time or in person? >> I watched in person, he watched on camera. >> Okay. And so, that's not include the $1,309 is not including the $50 she paid for? >> Yes. >> That is included or not included? >> not included. >> Okay. And where are the items she paid for? Still with her? >> Yeah, they are in the office. >> Okay. She give you guys IDs and whatnot? >> Not yet. >> Shortly afterward, the officer approached the female suspect. She then gave a full statement about everything she had done. >> So, why am I here? >> I was stupid. >> What do you mean by stupid? >> I I I mean I literally stole stuff. I don't steal stuff. And I wasn't thinking. >> And why are you stealing stuff? >> I have no idea. I really don't. I was just selling stuff. I had no idea. I was stupid. I just think I have my husband just everywhere and I didn't think about it. I really have a check waiting for me for $34,000. I have no There's no reason why I should be. I know that I messed up. 100% >> And these are just What What all did you steal? >> It's I don't know what they are. Yes, it's >> I'm just saying what was it? Like what >> Stupid clothes. >> You're just selecting random items? >> Wasn't smart. Wasn't smart. >> Okay. So, you paid for these items here. >> Yes, I did. >> How did you How did you get here? >> I drove. >> You drove? Okay. Okay. So, you drove here and you're from Palmdale? >> I'm I'm not from Palmdale. I'm from the >> Palmdale Palmdale like you live in Palmdale. And what made you come to Palmdale? >> and see a friend in Palmdale. She's actually dealing with an abusive boyfriend. >> Oops, sorry. So, were these items for you or for >> Yes, they were for me. >> Okay. >> I wasn't thinking. I literally wasn't. So, you said that I I I wasn't thinking. >> Sorry. >> I feel like if you send that forward, I'll never do it again. Whatever. I >> Jacqueline, I got to say I've been been doing this job for a very long time and you're the first person I've ever had commit a retail theft over $1,000. The first person ever. >> Are you serious? >> That I've had. Now, there's been others, trust me. >> Wow, that's wrong. I'm so sorry, sir. Sorry, guys. Don't be sorry. We didn't even let you guys know about it. We did this all the way up to this. I promise you that. This is so stupid. >> She tried to claim that she had only stolen the items by accident as if that could somehow lessen her responsibility for what she had done. >> [music] >> Even more strikingly, she calmly admitted to the actions she had committed. >> What changed your mind when you were walking through the store that you thought it'd be a good idea to try to take these items? >> I have no idea. I have no idea. There's no excuse for it. >> Okay. >> And I know that. >> So, you just walking through the store, you selected a few items like I'mma pay for those and then the rest of them >> literally just talking to the girl at the checkout when I was doing my thing. I didn't There's no There's no excuse for it. There really not. And I feel like it's so much >> So, you So, you did try to hide the items and conceal and pay for just a $55 worth of stuff. >> That's Yeah, basically. I think I Yeah, I guess so. >> So, you knew you were only going to pay for a few items while you tried to scoot out with the rest of it hidden in your cart. >> But, it's a very deep way, but I mean there's no excuse for what I did. I know that. >> there's no excuse. >> It is. It's This is a life lesson for me. I know that. I really do know that. I'm sorry. I don't feel what I did for the world about it, but you can say here with you guys when This is a scumbag thing to do. I'm better than this. >> Have you ever been arrested before? >> No, sir. >> Never been in trouble anywhere before? >> No, sir. >> It seemed like she thought it was no big deal, but her attitude had to change when the officer explained the charges she could be facing. >> Um so, when it boils down to it, the state of Florida and the Titusville Police Department don't take retail theft very lightly. Okay? You committed felony retail theft because at the threshold of $750, that is a felony amount. Okay? So, as long as you stay cooperative with me, okay? The handcuffs will stay in the front. Okay? So, that's as long as you're cooperative. If you become uncooperative, then I'll put them in the back and stuff like that. >> Please sir, please I'm begging you. >> Do you understand that? >> Yes. >> Okay. >> But I'm begging you. >> Put your palms together like this. >> I'm begging you. >> There's nothing that's going to change it. You committed a felony retail theft. >> my fiance? >> We'll We'll work on that. Here in a little bit. >> Sorry, you couldn't I think my fiance has four little girls. >> Well, it's they've already passed that. It's already exceeded that. Regardless of whether you had the money to pay for it or not, you should have done that before you went to walk out of the doors. These guys, this is This is their job. Okay? So, this is what they get paid to do. Walmart has the same people at every location. Okay? This is their job. You attempted to walk out of the store with over $1,200 of merchandise that you were not going to pay for. You paid for $50 of it, so yeah, you get to keep that. But Okay. Begging me is not going to work. I told you here at the Titusville we don't take retail theft lightly. >> Shortly afterward, the woman was allowed to make a phone call to her fiance. He also tried to suggest just a way to change the outcome, but clearly, there was nothing he could do to prevent her arrest. >> Babe, you're on speaker. I'm being arrested for for theft. >> Why? >> Cuz I just I was made I made a stupid decision and I can't I can't It feels horrible. >> Can I talk to them? Baby? >> Yeah. >> Can I talk to them? >> Hello, it's Officer McTaggart, police department. >> Hey, hey, do you Is there a way I can pay it and and y'all could just give her a written arrest? >> No, so she committed a felony retail theft and we have no leniency when it comes to felony. It's over $1,200 worth of merchandise she attempted to walk out of Target with. So, I'm I'm a reasonable cop, okay? I'm That's why she's allowed to make this phone call. Most cops would not allow her to make this phone call. They would tell her she could call you when she got to the jail. This phone call also serves a purpose as a courtesy to let you know that she's going to jail and that you need to get something done with her vehicle because if not, then Target's going to eventually tow the vehicle, which is just going to add on to the total uh it's going to cost you. >> I I got you. Okay, is there a way is there a way she could leave the keys with Target and I will get them? >> That's up to I'm I'm here with two of their employees. Is there a way that the keys could be left with you guys so he can come here and retrieve the car? >> Yeah, we can put it with up with guest services. >> Okay, they will put the keys with with guest services, okay? >> Can can can I go check with her? >> Yeah, she's right here. >> Baby, this is so stupid. >> What what's What's her bond going to be? >> Uh up it's going to be over 2,000. It may be 2,500. They've just recently changed the bond schedules, so I'm not a >> What's that cash or so that I know? >> Well, cash would be whatever the bond amount total would be, so it'd be 2,000 or 2,500, whatever it ends up being. >> what What do I What am I going to have to pay a bondsman? >> A bondsman is typically 10%, but you'd have to call a bondsman and let them and and and figure it out. They make their their thing. >> I can't pay the bill. I don't understand. >> Okay. Um all right, that's the >> So, if it's 2,000, it's $200 give or take. >> All right, um well Baby. >> I can't pay it. >> Can I talk to her? >> Shortly afterward, the officer continued speaking with the loss prevention department about catching her in the act. According to the employee's statement, it became even clearer that this was not an accident or an unintentional act at all. >> the large number of apparel selections in her cart already, and she would put back selections and then select without looking at prices. >> Okay. And then you What did you observe as she was >> Um observed her put back merchandise and take her other merchandise and sell merchandise in bags. >> And those are the three bags that were out there? >> Mhm. >> And she was just filling them full? >> Yes. And then uh she went through one of the check lanes and um only paid for about $55 worth of stuff. >> And those are the items there in the buggy currently? >> Mhm. She also uh ripped open the headphones package and took the headphones out and was putting them in her hand. >> And those were the red ones that we saw? >> Mhm. >> Okay. And you followed on foot? >> Yes. >> And you were watching here? >> Yes. >> And you kept eyes on her the whole time? >> Yes. >> With the cameras and what have Okay. All right. And you Where are your hands? You have the right. There you go. She's trying to stay in your line of sight the whole time. Nothing else is true so we got >> Yes, sir. >> Okay. All right. >> The woman was charged with felony retail theft after attempting to leave Target with more than $1,200 in unpaid merchandise. Shoplifting may seem like a small decision in the moment, but the consequences can become far more serious when the value of the stolen merchandise reaches the felony threshold. Taking responsibility before crossing that line is always better than facing the legal consequences afterward. But, what if the person behind the theft was actually an employee of the store? >> So, let me make a phone call real quick. >> Okay. >> So, you said he admitted taking 800 today? >> Today, and then he admitted that he had 20 grand in his safe at home. >> Like all >> from here? >> Yeah, all from here. >> On the 29th of January, 2025, officers received a report that a store employee had been caught stealing $800 in cash. They quickly arrived at the store only to realize that the $800 was far from the final amount. >> Hello. >> Speaking with Paul? >> Yeah, in regards to the I guess the grand theft. >> Yeah. >> We can talk to my officer over there. >> Okay. Sure. Is he here? >> Yeah, we just did an interview with him. He admitted >> Okay. >> This morning he stole $800 in cash. He said he admitted to the office. We got the footage and we got him on tape. We got the money back. It's sitting on the office right now. Cash came. I didn't just charge him for the last theft today and then he admitted he had 20 grand sitting in his safe at home. So we're going to try to figure out like best process to like get that stuff recovered. So I can walk you in there. You have the >> But I mean he's here now, right? Let me before I speak with him, let me let me see. Okay, let me make a phone call real quick. So you said he admitted taking 800 today? >> Today and then he admitted that he had 20 grand in his safe at home. >> Like all from here? >> Yeah, all from here. >> Wow. >> Yeah. >> So okay, so yeah, the you called said 2,000 so 20,000. Either way it's still worth that, but um >> On my actual report I just put it for the 800 cuz that's just what we're going to cover today, but I included in my report that he admitted having 20 grand at home. >> This amount proved that the suspect had carried out the theft multiple times, making the situation far more serious and forcing the officer to quickly report it to his supervisor. Give me this real quick. Hey Ginger. So I'm on this grand theft call at the Target and they have the guy here who's an employee. He has admitted to stealing like over 100,000. He says he's got about 20,000 in his safe I guess like at his house. They caught him with 800 today so they're wanting to I guess press All right. County 2210, roll me at 44 please. I'll be 10-12 with felonious suspect. [laughter] Let me go Where's he at? He has gone. >> So from what my boss said, we don't have the video of any other incidents really cuz he was taking into an area off stage, but if he was willing to admit it to you for the 20 grand, we'd be willing to press charges for it. >> Okay. So it's freeze. He's saying it's recoverable, I guess. So it's just like at his house. >> He has the 20 grand still in a safe. >> Okay. >> You can Yeah, let's >> I got I have another unit coming, so somebody can direct them as well. >> Since the male suspect had admitted to everything, his arrest was carried out quickly. Officers then escorted him to the police vehicle to complete the necessary procedures before taking him to the station. >> I appreciate you being cooperative. Can you step down the curb right here? Spread your legs real good for me. Nice and wide, and just lean forward. Once again, you got nothing on me that's going to hurt me or stick me, right? No guns, knives, or anything like that? >> Wallet, phone, keys. >> Okay. Got your phone. Look at me a little bit Look at me. Open your mouth. Open up the floor a little bit. You got to keep the car running. Stop. Oh, sorry. Go ahead. Thank you. You got COVID or anything? You got >> No, I work for them. Yeah. >> Yeah, let's go ahead and turn around. Have a seat. Watch your head for me. Got him in custody in the back. He's He's fine. He's detained. I I searched him. Probably get one of you guys to search him for me again. So, he is admitting to um stealing like a hundred thousand dollars worth of cash from here. >> A hundred thousand? >> Like tens of thousands. He said around a hundred thousand. He says he has twenty thousand of it in a safe at his house. They want to press charges for the twenty for the twenty thousand. They have him on video stealing eight hundred today. But I saw many I need to get him started on the sworn statements and everything. I just need somebody to stay ten two. >> Yeah, we'll stay ten twelve out here. You can >> All right. >> The amount had gone from eight hundred dollars to twenty thousand dollars, and now to one hundred thousand dollars. Clearly, the situation was becoming more serious, prompting the officer to make another call to confirm the next steps. >> Hey bud, uh so I'm at a call at this grand theft at the Target and have the um have the suspect 10-15. He's secured in my vehicle. >> Step out while you're talking. >> And um >> So he doesn't hear your conversation. >> Yeah, um [snorts and clears throat] and uh >> We'll watch him. You talk to the other guy. >> Yeah, he's admitted to stealing I mean he told this to the managers there they stole over $100,000. He has 20,000 of it in cash at his house in a safe. They have him on film uh stealing 800 today. Um >> So why do you have him secure? >> Uh well, because I mean they they had him in custody he admitted it to me so I secured him in handcuffs, yeah. >> Yeah, was he was he cooperative with you or >> Yeah, he's extremely cooperative. He's got, you know, pretty much the whole story and stuff. >> Just just for just for training purposes, why is he secure especially with that much money? If he's cooperative, why would I secure him? He's not we got to call the detectives right and he's secure now so what you got to do is you got to read him his rights and he's probably going to lawyer up and now he's not going to talk to the detectives anymore. >> Okay, yeah I was calling you to get permission to call the detectives but I see what you're saying. >> Right. >> Okay, all right, appreciate it. >> Since the remaining money was confirmed to be in a safe at his home, officers then confirmed the location of the keys so they could proceed with recovering it. >> Do you desire to consult an attorney first or have one during this procedure? >> Because I've never done this before I guess we'll Okay. >> Um so I'm going to stop asking you any questions, all right? Uh do you have your keys on you? >> They they took them. >> They took them? Okay. Um I'm not going to ask you any questions obviously about the case uh because you're invoking your right to counsel. I am going to inform you that we are going to do a search warrant on your apartment. I don't necessarily want to have to kick your door in. Uh can I uh uh uh take your keys and unlock your your house or whatever? >> It's not that I trust I >> You're Okay. Um can't really ask you anything about the safe you have, I guess. >> No, but you can you can say we're going to go into the safe. >> We are we are going to go into the safe. We're going to >> So, is there an easier way to get into safe other than breaking it? Cuz we're not going to break it. >> break We're going to take it and break it out. >> Same thing with your door. >> Wow. >> I think the key's on the with the rest of them. >> Okay. >> on the >> key set? >> Yeah, the key set. >> Okay. That's just up here, you think? Or they they wherever they have the key set? Okay. Is it just a unlock? There's no code or anything like that? >> There's um there's a to get to the key hole you have to take the panel off. There's a front panel that's for the keypad. And then the key hole's exposed and then I think the key's on top written. >> Okay. All right. Do you live by yourself? Is anybody in the house? >> I live by myself. >> Okay. All right. Anything any anybody that we should expect at the house at all? Like anyone we should expect at the house at all or this person? Okay. All right. Any pets? Cats, dogs, anything? >> No pets. >> In the end, Christopher Pleasants was charged with grand theft and scheming to defraud. This case shows how a seemingly minor theft can uncover a much larger pattern of criminal activity. Once the truth comes to light, repeated dishonesty can quickly turn a simple incident into serious legal consequences. Next, this woman even faked seizures twice in the same day. >> I have seizures. I have seizures. >> Well, >> No, I didn't do nothing. >> Well, >> I didn't do nothing. >> They just took her to the hospital earlier today from shoplifting and was saying that she's having a seizure and >> On the 14th of July, 2022, officers were dispatched to a parking lot after receiving a report about a woman involved in two thefts at both Burlington and Kroger. As soon as they arrived, she ran away, immediately causing chaos to unfold. >> You're under arrest now. >> What? >> Obstruction. >> I don't know why. >> Get your hands BEHIND YOUR BACK. >> BUT I GOT I HAVE SEIZURES. I HAVE SEIZURES. >> BEHIND YOUR BACK. >> I have seizures. >> Well, >> No, I didn't do nothing. >> Well, don't run. Give me your hand. This lady right here is trying to keep me from videoing this. You got your hands on me. Well, you shouldn't have stolen from Okay, can you stop causing issues? Stop. Pop up. Sit up on your side. 126 10-4 we're in front of Kroger. Come on, roll over and stand up. Why did you run from me? That was pointless. If you didn't do nothing, why you running? I didn't know what was going on for real. I just sit right there. What's your name? Look, that wasn't worth that. I did not steal anything. Yes, I did. What did you steal? But now you got us all scuffed up. >> He put his hands on me, man. >> Oh, no. He was the one who She put her hands on me. >> Huh? >> I said she put her hands on me. >> Yeah, I'm fine. >> Clearly, her claims of innocence became even harder to believe when she ran, especially with several suspicious items found in her bag. Okay, sit right here. Well, you made me chase you and tackle you, yes, sir. Oh, great. Well, there's a cut straw in there. All right, come on. It's crushed up at the end. You've been snorting with that. Come on. >> Did you pay for the stuff from Kroger? Well, this stuff, where did it come from? All right, this came from Kroger. All right. Can you read her Miranda? >> I'm I'm going to read you this. All right. Okay, I got to read you this first. You ready? >> Yeah. >> All right, you have the right to remain silent. >> Why are you running, ma'am, if you have done nothing wrong? Hang on. What >> Are you listening to me? >> Just listen to that. >> Are you listening? Listen. Okay, you have the right to remain silent. Anything you Are you listening? >> Did you listen to what she said? You're from Kroger, right? Hi. How are you today? >> I'm not done talking. You Hey, I'm not done >> I'm all right. >> I'm I'm just having so much fun. >> Oh, I'm sure. Okay, you tell me what's yours, cuz these are obviously yours. I'm sure this came from there. >> All right, I'm going to continue reading and ask you two questions. >> On the other side, another officer was dispatched to the Burlington store to further confirm her actions through the surveillance system. >> She dropped a sensor on the floor. And she's loading stuff in her bag. Do you have any camera angles where you can see her face? >> I can get some from >> No, it's all right. We already have her in custody. They just got her. >> Okay, that's why I got out with her, but >> I'm going to continue reading this and ask you two questions, and at the end I need an answer, okay? >> Okay. >> So that's why I got out with her, but of course she just >> Burlington don't have any of this. That's not mine. >> Yeah, it's probably from Burlington. Tags on it. >> At this point, the officers intended to confront her about the stores involved, but unexpectedly, the woman's condition suddenly became an issue. >> After the warning and in order to secure a waiver, the following questions should be asked Do you understand each of these rights I have explained to you? >> I'm going to cuff myself up. >> Do you understand them? >> Start EMS. Can I get an 18? She's going into a seizure. Okay. You got to get up. You got to get up. You got to stand up. Sit on your side. >> Goodness. >> You got to sit on your side. Start fire as well just in case. Ma'am. You got to sit on your side for me. Stay right here. Keep breathing for me. Can't get them like this. I need her to lean forward if you can. >> Watch your head. >> I can get you. She's shoplifting right away from me. >> Hey, we just brought her to the hospital for this earlier. >> Did you? Okay. >> Same situation. >> Okay. Same situation? >> Like she was being arrested? >> Shoplifting over at a CVS. >> Oh, okay. >> Got you. >> Okay. Got you. >> It's good to know. >> Yeah, I'm getting married right now. >> Did she just get out of there then? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Oh, yeah, that's that's my kid. You can use what you need to. >> What did you hear? >> Uh-huh. They just took her to the hospital earlier today from shoplifting and was saying that she was having a seizure and she just got out of St. Mary's. >> It turned out this was the second time she had faked a seizure to interfere with the investigation. In addition, a witness also confirmed that she had caused trouble with the officers earlier. >> Yeah, she Yeah, she came up and started getting in his face and everything. So, that's why >> I said, "If you need me, I'm always in court." >> My button fell off. That's unfortunate. >> And then she looked at him and said, "He put his hands on me." And he was looking right at us. >> Yeah, he was the one who had her the whole time. >> Huh? All right. I appreciate it. Thank you. >> The woman was charged with obstruction of law enforcement, two counts of shoplifting, and giving false names. Running from the police and creating false excuses only makes an investigation more serious. Attempts to avoid responsibility can quickly lead to additional charges and consequences. Next, this woman acted completely confused after learning that she had been permanently banned from every Walmart. >> They came up to me out of nowhere saying I'm banned. I don't understand what you guys are saying. I'm Sierra. I said that she needed I'm Sierra. We look just alike. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU GUYS ARE TRYING TO DO RIGHT NOW. >> On the 8th of June, 2026, police were dispatched to the loss prevention office after staff detained a suspect for alleged shoplifting. As soon as officers approached, she denied everything, causing the situation to become tense immediately. >> Excuse, I didn't do anything wrong. >> All right. Can I talk to you? >> I got a son to make it through. I didn't do anything wrong. I don't know what they're talking about. I was never banned from here. >> Like >> Oh my god, I didn't do anything wrong. I'M JUST HERE SHOPPING TO FEED MY SON. >> ALL RIGHT, REAL QUICK. What's your name? >> Sierra. >> Sierra? Okay. It sounds like you have an unserved order of protection, so we got to get that taken care of, okay? >> I didn't do anything wrong. I'm confused. >> Okay. >> In fact, officers searched Walmart's system for the woman's information and discovered that she had already been trespassed from the store. They then confronted her about it. >> So, it sounds like you've been trespassed from previous Walmarts and they put it nationwide, meaning you can't go to any Walmart. Have you been trespassed from another Walmart before? >> No. >> No? Okay, could you tell me why it's entered in their system then? >> I don't know. Someone accused me or something. I don't know. I've never been banned. >> Okay. That's what they have on their computer, so that's what we're here for. It sounds like you have an unserved order of order protection, so we got to get that taken care of, get you some paperwork, okay? >> I never said I've never been banned. Exactly. Like, I don't get it. >> Okay, it's just entered in our system. >> Yeah, that's >> The only thing is the order of protection. >> Yeah, that's it. >> Yeah. Ask once. Someone say they were coming with you? >> If I If I can't come back, I get that. >> Did they say they were coming with the form? >> Yeah. Yeah. >> Okay. >> If I can't come back, I get that, but they never told me that. >> What about Sierra? >> I would have never came here. >> Can I Can I sign something to you real quick? So, it looks like it's nationwide. So, we're going to >> So, I can never go to Walmart again? Like, this is what I'm saying. >> So, you're going to be trespassed from this Walmart as well. So, we do have a unserved order of protection. We got to give you the paperwork for that. And then once we do all that, it sounds like after that you're going to be free to go, but we do have to get all the paperwork sorted. It's going to take a little bit of time. >> So, I can't shop at any Walmart? Is that what you guys are saying? >> That's what it sounds like, yeah. >> And that's that's a you know, something they have in there. I mean, they have your picture flagged in all Walmarts. And it's you. Janetta Bennett? >> No. Sierra. >> How do you How do you spell it? >> C I E R R A >> And who's Janetta Bennett? She said You have no You told me you have nothing with your name on it. >> Nothing. I don't have anything with my name on it. I don't have anything. I have all my money. I don't have nothing. >> You have nothing with your name on it. >> Nothing. Nothing. Nothing. Nothing. Just my money. Nothing. I have nothing. I don't have to lie. I don't have to lie. >> Your friend mentioned something about the Montgomery location. Can you tell me what happened there? >> Yeah, but it was they just walked up on us and told US OH YOU GUYS can't be here. That's the same thing happened there. I don't understand what's going on, but they never told me I couldn't go in here. >> She continuously denied every accusation against her, but after calling her mother, the truth came out. >> This is my mom. >> Oh god. >> They don't believe me. They don't understand. My name is That's why I said god just be honest. When I went to Walmart and they came up to me and stuff, I told them that it was my sister so that I wouldn't get banned, but it I DON'T KNOW WHAT FOR. LIKE I DON'T KNOW >> So you gave them your sister's name this last time? >> Before last time, but I got in trouble for it, so I did it like Exactly. >> Okay. We're trying to figure out what's going on right now. What's your sister's name? >> Shenita. >> Shenita? Okay. >> My cousin told them my name, my birthday, and everything. >> I It's okay. We don't need [clears throat] to talk to her right >> They came up to me out of nowhere saying I'm banned. I don't understand why you guys That's not fair. I wasn't able TO GO TO EVERY WALMART CUZ IT WAS AN INCONVENIENCE. >> OKAY. THE REASON you're banned is you're using your sister's name and name You have no idea >> I know I got in trouble for that. >> Okay. Understand from our perspective, we don't know you from from Right? We don't We've never met you before. So when we're getting different names and they have all this information here on the back. >> But I was just >> Okay. So just relax. It'll be okay. >> Is someone sending it to you? I don't understand what I did wrong. I'm being I'm being HONEST WITH YOU GUYS. >> We've explained what's going on. >> I don't understand what's going on. >> We have in front of you things, okay? >> Like what? I don't understand. Why do you have to go and walk up on me out of nowhere and just tell me I'm banned and do nothing? >> Okay. Sierra, we we've told told you we need to figure out what's going on. We're verifying a few things. >> Okay. >> Sierra. My me and my SISTER LOOK JUST ALIKE. CAN YOU GET HER ON THE PHONE? LIKE WHAT THE >> OKAY. >> [snorts] >> What is your And what is your sister's name? >> Shenita. >> Shenita? Okay. >> She then tried to claim that her sister was the one who had violated the trespass order, not her. Her emotions only escalated from there, but officers soon discovered multiple inconsistencies in her story. >> So, the reason that you could move your hair back what we're trying to do is we're trying to figure >> I'M RIGHT HERE. THAT'S THE I DON'T UNDERSTAND. I'M SHE I'M SHE >> OKAY. >> MY SISTER IS SHENITA. I'M SIERRA. WE LOOK JUST ALIKE. LIKE I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU GUYS ARE TRYING TO DO RIGHT NOW. >> WE'RE JUST CONFIRMING IT. LISTEN. We're we're not going to get you. Why are you yelling at us? >> YOU GUYS ARE TRYING TO GET ME ARRESTED. I JUST WANT TO GO HOME. LIKE >> WE'RE TRYING TO GET YOU HOME. >> MY MY SON IS WITH MY MOM RIGHT NOW AND I'M JUST I DON'T KNOW WHAT'S going on. Like >> We're Well, we've explained a couple times. We're just trying to figure out because we're trying to see if there's some sort of issue with the criminal trespass order. >> There's not. I'm Sierra. >> Okay. >> I'm Sierra. What do I have TO LIE ABOUT? NO, THAT'S MY SISTER. CAN you get her on the phone? Like I don't know what >> Okay. >> I don't have to lie. >> Apparently, okay. She's trying to confirm it. >> That's my sister. Can you call my mom? Mom, CAN YOU SHOW MY MOM? Can you show my mom? Like literally, that's my sister. How are y'all going to JUST MIX ME UP? That's my sister. >> She thinks this one's with me. >> All right. Can you lift your head up one more time? Pull your hair out of your face. >> [sighs] >> Okay. Do you have a piercing? >> No. >> You have no piercing. Does your sister have a piercing? On her face? >> No. My sister doesn't have a piercing. Neither one of us has piercings. >> Have you ever had >> NO. I'VE NEVER HAD A PIERCING. >> OKAY. SO, why would your driver's license photo have a piercing in it? >> I don't know. I've never had a piercing before. >> In your driver's license photo? >> I never HAD A PIERCING. I PUT DIAMONDS ON MY FACE TO FAKE LIKE A PIERCING, BUT I DON'T HAVE A PIERCING. >> OKAY. >> LIKE THAT THAT'S >> I DON'T HAVE TO LIE. LIKE WHAT AM I LYING ABOUT? NO, BECAUSE that is unfair. I just came here to stop. >> Okay. >> You I never met you before. >> Okay. >> It was a black GUY THAT I MET AND THERE I MET I DON'T >> ALL RIGHT. YOU have actually got two warrants. One out of DuPage County, one out of Kane. The one out of DuPage is an ROR. The one out of Kane is no bond. >> How do I have a warrant? I'm going to put these first women on you. >> So, where am I going? >> The county. To the jail. They are taking you to jail. >> I was running. So, what were you saying while you were running? I mean, what I can't go to work or nothing today. It's over with. The time is over. >> Well, I don't know. There's nothing we can do about this. You got to go to >> I'm not disputing that, but what I was asking >> You got to sit down and I'll and I'll have them walk away from >> You strapped me. >> That red strap strap in there, that strap in there, that's your seat belt, okay? You can hang on to it, all right? All right, you want to get out? >> You may. >> Okay, hold on. I'll tell you. >> I never even obstructed you. >> What's this? >> Huh? That's That's my my cousin thing. That's the one I use when I do a video video to the county cuz I can't go in a penal institution. So, I can't I can't >> If If you're lying about your name again >> That's not my name. I never told you that. >> What's your What is What is your >> That I did >> What is your last name? >> Okay, I just literally if you look it up >> Okay, give me a minute. >> Yeah, I did. >> Show me your ID. Here you go. >> And I I still think that's >> In the end, Donny was charged with retail theft and resisting arrest. When clear evidence already exists, pride and defiance cannot change the facts. They only turn a single mistake into a chain of avoidable consequences. Next, this woman's situation became so bad that it required the presence of her own mother. >> She paid for about $25 worth of um like groceries and stuff, but she tried leaving with about $300 of unpaid items. >> What did you do with them? >> I didn't even I didn't even bring it with me cuz I said I want my money back. >> On the 6th of April, 2025, police stopped a vehicle on the road after suspecting it was connected to a theft. As soon as they approached, the woman immediately showed an uncooperative attitude. >> How long am I She said I was detained. How long am I detained for right now? >> You're under You're under arrest. So, that's why you're getting out of the car. >> I didn't steal anything. >> Okay. We're going to figure that out. >> But then by that time it may be too late if I if I get arrested. >> an option at this point. >> Well, so Tiana, here's the deal. So, I've watched all the video. By Florida state statute, okay, you walked out of the store without paying for items. >> I did not walk out. >> Okay. Well, >> not go outside outside. I was not outside. >> Okay, you passed all points of sale. That's what that means. >> But the situation was far from simple as the woman was believed to have committed the act alongside younger individuals forcing officers to work with the suspect's mother to ensure their safety. >> Now, Keana is detained, okay? The reason why is because she shoplifted from Walmart. Um she went in with her and the two kids. Um she paid for about $25 worth of um like groceries and stuff, but she tried leaving with about $300 of unpaid items. All right. So, um whenever we showed up here, they gave us a description of the vehicle. They gave us a description of her. Um obviously located her right here, which is just within a very short distance of Walmart. Um and since then she's been less than cooperative with us. Um but she was wanting for uh her kids if in the very least if you would be able to take her children for and stuff like that. >> Can I get the kids, please? >> Yeah, we'll make sure that you get the kids and stuff like that and get everything taken care of. >> don't have far. >> I don't know. >> money. >> Right. >> You know, I'm a I'm an insurance broker. I make over $100,000 a year. I got money. >> You know, I I honestly don't know. Um do me a favor. What we would like for you to do is I think that the kids will probably be calm enough with us if what we can do is we can just have her step out. We can take care of stuff away from the kids, okay? Because we don't want them seeing all of this that's going on. She does have to go in handcuffs. She has to be patted down, go in a vehicle and stuff like that. We'll let you come in and start taking care of the kids and stuff, right? And then >> here? >> Huh? >> Is my car here? >> Um yeah, we'll figure that out. So, I I think the vehicle is registered to her. We'll get that stuff lined out, but let us get this squared away and then we'll either decide if the kids need to come to your car or if you're taking hers or what what's going on exactly, okay? >> Returning to the suspect, the officers tried to explain what they were trying to resolve, but she seemed more concerned about herself than anything else. >> We're going to try to be as respectful as possible with you and your family here cuz these are your kids, right? Okay. What we would like if possible and if you will agree with it, is we would like for you to turn off the car and step out and walk back here with us. Okay, so that way we don't do anything in front of the kids and we don't have any issues. Is that okay? Are you good with agreeing with that? All right. >> How long am I She said I was in pain. How long am I to stay or am I now? >> You're under You're going to be under arrest. So, that's why you're getting out of the car. >> I didn't steal anything. >> Okay. >> Well, we're we're going to figure that out. But then by this time it may be too late if I if I get arrested. >> an option at this point. >> Well, so Tiana, here's the deal. So, I've watched all the video. By Florida state statute, okay, you walked out of the store without paying for items. >> I did not walk out. >> Okay. >> I did not go outside outside. I was not outside. >> Okay, you passed all points of sale. That's what that means. Tiana, this officer wants to ask you some more questions whenever we get done with this, okay? Soon as we get these in and you're secured in the back of my car, I'm going to have your mom go up there with the kids, okay? >> The officers successfully detained the woman and only after some persuasion did she finally present her side of the story. >> Well, I went back to the day I accused me. I came in there. I went back to the um register. I checked my gift cards. Um a woman helped me in the front. Yeah, a woman helped me in the front. I checked my gift cards and then I returned something and then I left. >> Okay. >> I'm trying to leave. >> So, let's let's let's start back from that, okay? When did you come When did you decide to come to Walmart? Was it this morning? This afternoon? Was it spur of the moment? >> Um I was coming from The Villages so um you know, I just needed to stop by. >> Okay. Where do you live at? >> I live in the villages as well. >> You live in the villages. Coming from the villages, live in the villages, and you came here to this Walmart. >> Yeah, because I was getting ready to have a gathering. >> Like a family gathering? >> Mhm. >> Okay. All right. It's fine. So, you stopped by Walmart, do some grocery shopping, all right? >> Mhm. I got I got like >> Got a few things. What was a few things? >> Um >> What was What was the stuff? >> Uh peanut butter, >> Okay. >> bread, peanut butter, I got some juice, and um some chips for the kids. >> Okay. About how much was all of that? >> Um roughly about maybe a little about 40 bucks, probably. >> 40 bucks might be a rough estimate or something like that. Okay. >> She was not even certain about the amount she had paid, despite admitting that she made a payment, which immediately led officers to question her payment process. >> Well, okay. In the beginning, which one did you go through first? >> Scan and go. >> Self-scan first. Okay. So, you you got the stuff, right? And then you went to what? Customer service or like a normal >> customer service. >> Customer service. >> The machine. The lady came over here with the machine, but it wasn't functioning. >> Okay. All right. So, you did that, and then you tried to leave, right? Cuz you were done. Went to the doors. >> No, I went to the customer service. >> After After customer service, yeah. Yeah, you check your you return an item, you check your gift card balances and stuff like that, and you walk out, you and your two kids, from this Walmart. You got stopped inside the vestibule, past all points of sale, by a large man in a gray shirt that identified himself as asset protection, right? >> Mhm. >> Okay. So, you followed him? >> No, I didn't. >> Didn't what? >> I didn't follow him. >> You didn't follow him? >> No. >> Okay, did you follow somebody else? >> Yeah, I followed this woman. I kept asking her like, "What's the problem?" And she wouldn't tell me. >> Wouldn't tell you. >> After a while, I said, "Um, you're not going to tell me what's the problem?" And they said, "Yeah, just come with me." And I said, "I'm not coming with you anywhere." >> Okay. >> I said, "I'm not coming with you anywhere." >> Mhm. Okay. >> And I walked out the door. >> And then you walked out the door. Okay. So, what about the items that you paid for? Did you What did you do with them? >> I didn't even I didn't even bring it with me cuz I said I want my money back. >> Okay. That was her entire story, but the suspicious details did not stop there as officers began pointing out more inconsistencies. So, it it it your story's starting to fall apart here. Who on earth goes into the store Hear me out. Who on earth goes into the store, does that, goes back up, and is following this, you know, an employee, and then tells customer service, "Hey, I want my money back," but then just leaves without getting their money or taking the items that they paid for? I mean, I I do a lot of grocery shopping. Malcolm, you do a lot of grocery shopping. I've never had that happen. Have you? >> He said it. He said I wasn't going to get my money back. So, I said, "Okay. If you're not going to give me my money back, I'll just do a dispute." >> Okay. >> That's why I stayed there. >> Okay. All right. So, let me ask you this. While you were loading your shopping cart full of items, and you only paid for approximately $25 worth with supposedly a gift card, I believe is what it was. Or was it What kind of card did you pay with it for? >> Um, I had a gift card, yeah. Some was gift card, and some was like cash. >> Okay, some was gift card, some was cash. All right. So, it's kind of a combo deal. >> So, real quick, before y'all go on, do you actually have a driver's license? Yes or no? Cuz I just ran I just ran you, so yes or no? >> I >> Do you or don't you? >> I don't have it. >> Okay. No, do you actually have one, period? >> Oh, no, ma'am, I don't have it. >> Oh, no wonder why you don't have it. >> Okay. So, here's the deal. You loaded up approximately $295 worth of merchandise in your cart. You tried to pay for $25. You tried to walk out with $270 and 99 cents worth of unpaid merchandise. I have the itemized receipt. We do have it on video. You passed all points of sale without paying for it or attempting to pay for it at that given point, which means that at this point you've committed to retail theft. >> So, in addition to the theft charge, she was also charged with driving without a license, but it did not stop there. Through the mother's statement, officers realized that the name she provided also seemed to be problematic. >> Who does the car belong to? Is it Kayana, Keona? Kayana? Okay. Kayana No, that's >> That's her. >> That's her, Kayana Speer. What did you tell her your name was? Okay. >> So, this is this is her. >> Yeah, this is you're Keona Speer. Kayana Speer, okay. And the red The vehicle isn't registered to you or owned by you, is it? Oh, it is? Okay. >> You do realize that's an additional charge. You gave me a false identity. >> What she say her name was? >> Keona something. >> Okay. Yeah, at this point Kayana, Keona, however you pronounce it, I'm sorry, either way. So, at this point our hands are tied. We Even if there was a chance that we could have given you what's called a notice to appear, which is ultimately what we would have probably done in this situation since you had your two kids with you, had you been stopped and been, you know, pretty compliant with us and stuff. You would be given just a court date, as a matter of fact, and you would still be able to, you know, probably go to Walmart and do everything else that you needed to do, and it wouldn't have been a big deal, but >> She was charged with retail theft, [music] driving without a valid license, and providing a false identity to law enforcement. Even a small lie can spiral into bigger consequences when honesty [music] could have prevented it all, and one poor decision can quickly turn into multiple charges that change everything. Worse still, the next suspects even treated their wrongdoing as a joke. >> I know that there's cameras. That's why I'm telling you I would never dispute y'all, even with this. I'm telling you straight up. >> So? I did take the pants. >> From who, Mr. Marcus? >> I took the pants from you, Mr. Marcus. >> On February 24th, 2025, officers were dispatched to a Dick's Sporting Goods store after receiving a report of a retail theft incident. At that moment, an employee also provided several statements describing the suspects. >> Can you tell me what they look like? >> There were a guy in a green hoodie, green pants, and then the lady is I forget what she is. >> She's got a tattoo right here on her neck. >> of a feather on his eye. >> Yeah, um >> And what were they white, black, Hispanic? >> White. >> Like both of them? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Um what Okay, I'll let him know. >> I know their first name cuz she called the store. >> Yeah. >> They have their first name and everything? >> from me. >> Okay. Um what did they take? >> Um It was Nike Pros for sure, like >> Yeah, it's >> like sure they have it. She put it in her bag. They went in our fitting room and pulled the sensors off. We have the sensors that are detached. >> Um can I get you guys They got the profile right at the store. Can I get you guys to write down a statement? >> Yeah, of course. I'll be right back. >> He came back within 30 minutes. >> Okay, just you can write all that up. >> And then this time he knew we knew him cuz we WERE LITERALLY LIKE, "OH, SAME GUY." LIKE [screaming] BEING LIKE LOUD ABOUT IT, SO HE WENT AND BOUGHT one of the pairs of pants this time, and then >> And he left the first time with like >> He left with stuff. Yeah, yeah, cuz both times >> Just this first time. The second time he bought something and >> Okay, so he came in the store, grabbed stuff, left without paying, then came back in and bought like a pair of pants and then left. >> Yes. >> Yes, I just read like about that. You can write everything. >> A hard thing to do. >> We roughly So, based on what they were touching and stuff like that, it's pretty much what we don't see here. But they took pretty much like the tank the tank top that she took. Pretty much. >> For sure there's four sensors defeated. So, there's definitely four items that he took. >> About an hour later, the suspects were apprehended and the male suspect appeared to act innocent, beginning to create difficulties with his feigned confusion. >> I just need to talk to you. And before I can talk to you, I need to read you these questions, okay? >> Hold on. But I From what I know, you get your rights read at night. >> Before I answer any of your questions, I like to It's just part of my policy. I have to read your rights before I can talk to you. Okay? >> I mean, but I want to know why though. >> I can explain that >> Let me ask you >> How you doing? I'm Detective Hancock. >> How you doing? >> Uh it's not like movies, all right? >> No, I'm not I'm not >> has to do with the fact that you were detained in handcuffs right now. You're sitting in the back of this car. Obviously, you're not free to go, okay? And we want to ask you some questions about the incident. Okay? Therefore, we have to read you your rights Miranda. >> free to go after your call. >> Well, no. Cuz we're still conducting an investigation. Detained doesn't mean you're free to go and it doesn't mean you're going to jail, okay? It just means while we're conducting an investigation, you're not free to go. >> Okay, so >> So So, I can conduct my investigation, I need you to read you your rights so I can ask you my questions. >> Okay. >> All right, read your rights. >> Read your rights? >> Yep. >> Okay, so we went in we went in one time. I was actually looking for a Nike tech. >> Nike tech? >> Yeah, I was going to do baby blue, but they didn't have the top. They just had >> The man admitted he was present at the store, but denied any involvement in the crime. His story even began to drift, becoming increasingly irrelevant and unfocused. >> Uh-huh, so I put it back in and I was like, let's just leave. But, I looked at another Nike sweatsuit. So, I was like, you know, we can go down here where she was going. >> Did you buy anything from the store? >> Yeah. >> What did you get? >> I went I I I literally went back in and bought a like a sky blue Nike jogging [clears throat] suit. I went with the jogging suit instead of the tech. So, I bought the hoodie and the sweat pants. >> So, you bought the the blue combo? >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> I went in there and bought the hoodie and the sweat pants. >> So, this is what I saw, you know, from video. You went inside the store one time, >> Right. >> looked around the store, grabbed some property, >> Right. >> left it behind, went into the fitting room, then came out, then left the store. Then you come back again and you buy some dark clothing. It wasn't blue. >> It was blue. >> It wasn't blue. The one you got was blue. >> I I swear to you, the receipt was in the bag, everything was in the bag. It is light blue with a white Nike check. It I seen him put it in the back of the car. It's in the Dick's bag. I never stole anything. It was >> So, what about the the other store you guys went into today? >> What other store? >> Neiman Marcus. >> Neiman Marcus? >> Neiman Marcus. >> We didn't go in Neiman's today. We was actually headed into Neiman's to take back that purple shirt that I had because I wanted to do Casablanca with my purple jeans. And then we was going to take back um some white white white baby clothes thing cuz she had the wrong bottom to the top. The top was a two and the bottom was a four. So, that's why we were coming here to >> It was clear he deliberately avoided the issue the police suspected, even immediately denying it when officers confronted him directly. >> You removed all the security devices from the clothing and put them in one of the items in the fitting room and then left. >> What what clothing? >> Hm? >> What clothing did >> You tell me you were in the store. >> We didn't leave out with any anything. At that time we left out with >> me you paid for everything you left. >> Oh, I went back in. When we left the first time, we didn't grab anything. We didn't pay for anything or anything. >> You didn't pay for anything? >> We didn't have anything >> Okay. >> to pay for. We didn't have nothing on us. We didn't take anything. Like I said, the the beeper was removed >> Why would you remove the beepers? >> We did it. >> There was more than one and they only found the beepers removed, a bunch of them, after you guys left the fitting room and they were in the fitting room that you guys wanted. >> They were in the fitting room. >> Yep. >> On the other side, the female suspect had also been detained. Within her story, an admission had already taken place, yet she showed no sense of guilt whatsoever. >> Okay. [snorts] >> Go ahead. What store you went to so far? >> He is >> What stores did you go to in the mall yesterday? >> Um Lululemon. Neiman Marcus. I think that's >> What was the store? >> Okay. Um did you guys go >> Neiman Marcus. >> Neiman Marcus? >> We went in there and I purchased myself a expensive I purchased it. That's why I'm saying, how do I have a felony? I actually paid for my stuff. I didn't go in a dressing room. I went to go look for other stuff to shop for. I was going to originally buy a Casablanca shirt. >> And >> That was a thousand dollars. >> There was cameras. >> I know that there's cameras. >> you >> I know that there's cameras. >> Okay. And in the cameras, you guys were concealing items that you didn't pay for. >> In the Neiman Marcus where I purchased the shirts on? >> Yes. >> Mhm. I ain't concealing The only thing that he did was take his clothes. He went back there to I'm going to tell you exactly what happened. We went in. I went in a few sections. I picked up a Casablanca shirt. I took that to the cashier to sell. I took a purple shirt to the cashier to sell. I paid for that. He went in the dressing room to try on his stuff to see if it fitted and then he ended up coming back out and that's when we went wherever we was going at. So we separated some time. I didn't have any bags. I didn't have I didn't have For real, I know that there's cameras. That's why I'm telling you I would never dispute y'all, even with digs. I'm telling you straight up if I took I'm completely honest. I know I have done And he will not and I'm not perfect. But I'm telling y'all if y'all look at the cameras and you look at the cameras, you'll see me on the camera the whole entire time. I never went in there. I did not take any no bag. I didn't have a real shitty >> So, again based on what we see on video >> Okay. >> and based on what you're telling me >> Okay. >> Right. >> She gave blunt statements without any shame. Although she knew the wrongdoing had occurred, she still denied her responsibility in the incident. >> No, but when I say that you see it on the camera, you know I didn't take nothing. Be for real with me. Be for real. You know I didn't take [ __ ] You know I didn't go in the dressing room. You know I didn't put [ __ ] in the bag. You know I didn't have any >> And I just wanted to know like you and him are working together. Okay? So, you think you're saying me or him or whatever? It's you are a team when you're going into these places and you know that. >> Listen, I ain't taking [ __ ] off. I ain't touching [ __ ] Anything that in the bag, if I ain't paid for, I don't know [ __ ] about. You see the cameras, you know exactly what happened. You know what happened. Because y'all know that we going to be here. >> It's not possible to have three different places call saying you guys are stealing, shows videos. And then the fact that you're telling me that I mean he's got a different story. So, that's just All right, man. Last time I talked to you, man, and then we're done after that, okay? Um so, she I just talked to her and she kind of like told me about these pants and the kids clothing um from Neiman Marcus. So, again video's there. Um Do you know how she I just want to see if you're honest. I mean I see if maybe we change up. I can say something nice about you on this report and if not, it's no big deal. But do you know how she end up with these pants? Do do how she ended up with these clothes? I guess that she bought one item, just like she did against the law, so she bought one item at the store. But how did she end up with all these items from Neiman Marcus? It's on video how she ended up with it. Um And you know, now with video she's pretty open about what happened, so again how am I right in this about you? Is it that you knew or you got a line? >> All right, so I did take things. >> From Neiman Marcus? >> In the end, both suspects were charged with felony retail theft and possession of an anti-theft device as the evidence ultimately exposed their entire scheme. Lesson learned, persistently denying responsibility despite clear evidence only worsens the situation and reduces any chance of mitigating legal consequences. What do you think about cases like this?
