all right welcome back everyone mesa police giving you an inside look at a day in the life of a police officer so they did this tweet along which we have up and it was last thursday and this morning we are talking to an officer there in the mesa police department becky corn good to see you irene mahoney this is a neat program guys and we'll go through some of your tweets in a second let's start though with what you're trying to accomplish with this officer let's start with you what do you hope the public takes out of this i hope it brings just more transparency between the police department and our civilian community to let them know what the day in the life is as an officer what was this experience like really for both of you to be together in the vehicle as you're driving along well i would say i'm i'm non-sworn so i was coming at it looking as a community member really i do work for the police department i'm part of their pio department um and for me it was just really an eye-opening um experience to see our officers in action kind of their day-to-day um just interacting with our community having conversations and just seeing what they do throughout their shift okay so let's take a look at a few of these if we can and these are all yours i assume irene all these tweets and we'll pull them up as we go through so you say here you go we're gonna follow along kind of introducing people your very first stop is you see somebody sleeping on a bench what was this what was happening here so we normally do like welfare checks in the morning it was really cold that morning so i saw someone sleeping underneath the blanket i just wanted to make sure that they're okay and were aware of all the resources that mesa offers the community as far as our homeless population and then the next one that we have up it's uh the abandoned vehicle that you see and so when something like this happens irene what was going on inside the vehicle so when we um pulled into the area where the car was parked you know um officer corian was just kind of observing what was going on and and seeing if there was you know we could see if there was anybody inside we couldn't see from our vantage point and so she pulled around she didn't see any visible plates so she you know got out of the vehicle went over looked through the window of course through my mind i'm you know i'm like nervous i was nervous because i i was like is somebody in there are they gonna you know and and she just was really calm and tapped on the window and and obviously there was a young man inside and he was sleeping waiting for the library to open and they had a really good conversation and we were able to share some resources with him and and hopefully you know help him out a little bit so maybe living in the in the suv or something like that and then here i thought this was interesting you came across a gentleman who's 90 years old tell us tell us about this it was kind of unique um he was about 90 years old just on a bench right outside one of our local stores and it just kind of struck me like we need to find where he's from he wasn't really communicating very well with us and you know it was cold outside as well and i'm like okay we need to use as much resources as possible to ensure the safety of this older gentleman so we are calling all around and we were able to touch base with a relative and we also had our victims advocate come out and we ended up using a lot of resources to help him find uh back to his residence it was great you know officer karen i think all of these uh photos that irene posted i think it gives at least troy and i in studios we were going through the tweets and i think a lot of people at home a different perspective on what officers do on the roadways don't you think i mean you you respond to so many of these cases more than some of the other things that really kind of dominate the news headlines so often yeah and i thought that too i said people see kind of the big stories you know or things that make headlines but they don't really get to see the actual day-to-day the contacts that are being made the community outreach that's being done and so i thought it was really interesting and important to show that well officer thank you for all that you do uh uh irene i think that was really eye-opening i'm glad you guys are doing this program we look forward to seeing more of these thank you both so very much thank you appreciate it have a good morning thank you yeah interesting and then at the end of it we kind of flew through this but they like this one here they saw an abandoned vehicle and checked out and ended up being stolen so then they dusted it for print so they're working on crimes but they're also helping people out
