I'm Detective Sabrina Amick [music] and I am a detective in the vehicular crimes unit assigned to the traffic section. Before I joined the Mesa Police Department, I was actually in the military and it transitioned to life here. I'm sorry. Wait, I'm going to have to stop this guy. I'm so sorry. That's very very bad. Tom 15 traffic. What's going on in the traffic circle? What's happening? What school is this? It's going to be Nora 4. Frank Robert, we're going to be over Arizona 20 elementary. Hi there. Did you not see me in the traffic circle there? No. You almost ran right into me. Do you have your license, registration, insurance? Um I'm a nanny, so this isn't my car. Okay. Do you know is there insurance on the vehicle? Um yeah. >> Okay. I'm pretty sure. I'm just not sure quite sure what it is. All right, go ahead and look for it. We'll be right back, okay? >> you. I'm going to just check her license real quick, make sure she's valid while she's looking for her insurance and registration. She failed to yield at the traffic circle and almost ran into us. Yeah, it's showing valid. I'm going to go just talk to her a little bit. Well, according to the MVD there does seem to be insurance on this vehicle. I understand you're not the owner, but when we're driving a vehicle you're required to make sure there's insurance and registration that belong to the vehicle. So, I just want to have a talk to them and have them put it somewhere in the vehicle. A lot of times people have it on their phone now, but just have them print a hard copy if you're going to be operating the vehicle, make sure it's uh available for you. I'm not going to issue a citation today, but I just want you to understand this is a super busy time with school drop-off. We just have to be extra careful to watch out for the rules of the road and make sure we're yielding before you enter the traffic circle, okay? You're You're good. Have a good day and good luck with drop-off. Bye. Okay, we we just got dispatched to a road rage involving a white transit van that's coming up behind us here. He got into an argument with somebody about merging lanes and Tom 15, I'm with the vehicle. We're northbound on the 202. The person in the vehicle and him, this person in the van, got into a little bit of argument. The guy in the van said, "I have something for you." and pulled out a gun. So, now this officer in front of us is trying to pull him over. More recognizable since he's in a marked unit. Sorry, Brandy. You're going to be up all night. What I want you to do is open the door from the outside. Step out and keep your hands up where I can see them. Okay. You have permission to unlock the door for me real quick. Perfect. Just step out and keep your hands up. Go ahead and remove your seat belt. Thank you for that. What I want you to do is take one step to your left. And then I want you to slowly walk back to the sound of my voice. Stop right there for me. Pull up the top of your shirt so I can see your waistband. Go ahead and spin all the way around for me. We're just checking your waistband, making sure I don't see any weapons. Perfect. Perfect. You can stop and then walk back to the sound of my voice. This is the Mesa Police Department. If anybody is inside the vehicle, raise your hands so we can see them. I'm not seeing anything either. No. Okay. All right. Did they explain to you why we pulled you over? Okay. Our levels are pretty heightened when we hear that somebody has a gun and So, that's where we're at. But we're here to get your side too. So, we just have to make sure that you don't have any weapons, you're not trying to hurt us and then explaining what happened and hearing your side is where we're at. The only thing that happened was Ellsworth goes down into one lane and it's when you merge it's one after another and one car went in front. It was my turn to get over. I tried to get over. A truck didn't want to let me over and tried pushing me like ramming his way up to not let the next car over. Um I got over anyway and then that car flew up onto the side of me, rolled down the window and started saying you beat my ass and that was it. >> Okay. Laughed at him. I was on the phone with a client while this whole thing happened. So, do you have a gun? No. Okay. He said he was on the phone with a client. He's like, I don't He came up to me and he said I was on the phone with a client. I said, "Did you pull anything out that may have looked like a gun?" He's like, "I was on the phone." Um so, he's denying anything like that ever happened. >> There is a blanket behind the seat like wrapped up. Okay. The seats you'll see are metal the bottom, so I don't see him pulling it out from the bottom. I'll go to the passenger side. It's all behind the seat. Okay. This was all wrapped up, but it's just a piece of equipment. >> No, I'm not finding anything. Um he said he never had one. He's like, "I don't even know where that came from." He's like, "I was on the phone with a client when that person came up to me." And he said we can go through his car. He's like, "I don't have a gun." Do you see anything in that hole underneath the seat? Do you see anything? >> No, no. I already checked. Um You're right. I mean, I'm not seeing anything, so and and it sucks sometimes because when we get a one-sided story that calls in, we have to act like it actually is happening cuz we only have that person to believe, but I completely understand. Cuz if it If it did happen, then this would you know, this is what you would need. That's true. But not what I was expecting, you know? Sorry about that. No, hey. You're doing your job. I appreciate you guys. Be safe. Thank you. All right, take care. >> Stay safe out there. Thank you. They were in a road rage situation. Somebody cut somebody off and then they basically said that thought they saw a gun, but it could have been since the guy was on his phone. You know, could have been phone. Yeah. Who knows? Yeah. Um and then just stated that I got something for you. Oh. But we know how people embellish sometimes. Sure do. All right. Okay. Appreciate your help. >> No problem, sir. It was great that we actually found the vehicle. A lot of times in these calls we aren't even able to locate the vehicle, the other vehicle involved, so very fortunate we found him. And um to piggyback that, it is important when something does happen to you that you get as much information as you can. And this person called in the description of the vehicle, the license plate, the direction they were going. >> The driver description. >> Yeah, and that really helped us in locating him. Um and then as that person being pulled over, he did a great job just listening to our commands um and doing what we were asking him to do. And in the end we got his side of the story and there really was nothing that led us to believe a crime occurred. We're We're following this passenger car in front of us. They're going about 65 mph right now in a 45 mph zone. I did get the chance to run the plate as we're trying to catch up to the vehicle and looks like the registration expired May of 2025. So, we are going to do a traffic stop. Hi there. Good. Do you have any idea why I stopped you? Yeah, I'm speeding. I'm going super fast. golf course and Okay. called them and they don't have it, so I'm trying to go back and get it. What golf course are you trying to go back to? >> San Marcos right here. Okay. So, where are you heading now? To the golf course cuz I don't work right here. Okay. So, do you have any identification on you whatsoever? No. Is this your vehicle? Yes. Do you have the insurance and registration? No. Okay. Is the vehicle Is there insurance and registration on the vehicle? You just don't have it with you? Okay, right on. It's all my Everything's my wallet. Okay. I'm going to check his plate and check his license since he doesn't have any license on him. He claimed that he forgot his wallet at the golf course, so he's heading to the golf course very quickly to try to retrieve his wallet. Ticket. Yes, ma'am. But you know what? It could prevent a fatal collision. That's right. Damien, what's a good phone number for you? Nine? And what's an email address? Do you have one? I'm going to give you a couple tickets today. The first one I'm going to give you is speeding. Now, I do want to talk to you about that one a little. I had you going over 20 mph over the speed limit, which is actually a criminal speeding. Uh in that case I would be taking you to jail and they would probably suspend your license, tow your car, the whole thing. I'm not going to issue you the criminal citation today. I'm only going to do the civil citation for that, but I want you to understand something. I do vehicular crimes investigations, which means I go to all fatal collisions that happen in the city of Mesa. And the number one cause of fatalities is speed. The faster you go, the more injuries you could produce in a collision. I'm sure that makes sense to you. So, speeding is a big deal, right? Um I understand you're running late, got things to do, places to be, but that's when we tend to get a little reckless with our driving. And I just don't want you to drive like that, all right? The next one is expired registration. That one's a pretty easy ticket to take care of. I'm going to give you an envelope explains all the options for how to take care of this citation. And if you do have any questions, on the back is the phone number to the Mesa City Court, okay? So, if you would just give me a signature right there by the X. All right, I'm going to give this to you. Um you just live not too far from here, so hopefully you find your license uh and can get that. I would talk to your mom about getting the insurance put in the vehicle as well, okay? All right, drive safe. >> [music]
