[Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] So, growing up, um, a lot of my family, uh, was not very PD friendly. They I've seen multiple of my family members be arrested and just came from a the dynamics of those people that just didn't support the police where I was growing up saying I was one of those kids that were like, "F the police. They're only there to arrest people." And as I got older, I started to somewhat understand that police are there to help you and they're not out to arrest you unless you're committing crimes. We are going to a trespassing at Motel 6. It looks like checkout was at 11:00 this morning. There's a woman in a room and she's refusing to leave. >> It becomes like it becomes a civil issue. Same thing as when someone's in a house, they have to go through like an eviction process. They know all the steps. I don't know exactly. I know what we cannot do is we can't force our way into the room. Um it's not worth it. Um cuz they could we could get hurt. They could get hurt and it's over someone staying in a hotel room when they should have checked out. >> Hello. Are you Seline? >> Yes. >> Okay. So, the front office called us. They said that you uh were supposed to check out today. Is that correct? >> Yeah. So, what I'm here to do is kind of just tell you that that you need to check out, right? This is trespassing. You've extended your stay and they want you to leave. Okay. Are you good if I step inside? Are you good if I step inside? I'm just going to confirm your information real quick. Okay. >> Selene, when did you check in here? Seline. Hey, when did you check in? >> H when did you check into the hotel? >> Okay. Do you speak English? >> Hold on. >> Here. I'm going to I have a translator on my phone. Can you look at me, Seline? Seline. >> Seline or No, shoot. [Music] Okay. This motel no longer wants you here. So, you are trespassed. Period. If you come back onto the property, you could be cited or arrested and taken to jail. Do you understand? Thank you. That was pretty cool that the Google Translate came in handy, especially because we don't speak Spanish. >> Yeah. >> Um, and then we were able to do what the hotel wanted, right, which was get her out of her room and let her know that she has trespassed and she can no longer stay. >> Yes. Yeah. So, my route with it, uh, I always try to go the easy way, like actually talk to people. I get it. She's technically committed a crime of trespassing with they've told her that she needs to leave and so technically we can pull her out, but I would rather, you know, talk to someone respectfully and >> she didn't seem like she seemed like a very nice lady to me. Uh, just maybe in a rough situation. >> I agree. >> So, I would rather just go the way of talking to her. >> At least they're calling like an Uber for her, too. So, it'll help get her off the property and free us for more calls. >> We're going to a stabbing call. Somebody's calling in that a man is stabbing a woman. That the man has access to a black Mustang, but we do have history here of mental health issues. So, uh we're just getting here. Let's see what's going Yeah, she has 918 history. Good work. Sure. It's a Mustang. There's a black Fiat out here. It's occupied by two, but they look like they're just fizzling on their phone. >> So, we're not seeing the stabbing victim or the suspect, and our dispatcher is telling us this address has a history of mental health issues. >> Um, so we don't know if this is actually a true story or not. >> Yeah. Now, >> is this 222? Is that where we're going? >> Yeah, it's this one. But >> yeah, >> the RP is not >> RP's in Red Mountain, >> I guess, is what the last thing is. If they come back, do you want to take it back to three? Is that what you said? >> Okay. It comes back to 764. >> She's not supposed to be here anyways. Is that what the comments were? >> So, it said So, I think >> the female that's calling and then the last thing they said was she's not even here. So, it's like thirdhand info at this point. We were just dispatched to what initially kicked out as a stabbing at over in the somewhat like near Main Street in Mesa. Later call comments, you know, they were explaining that someone was stabbed. And then as we started to run history checks with the phone number and the location, it was coming back as we've had prior contacts with this individual that's calling in of with mental health related issues. Uh so with that, we still we still treat everything um as if it really did kick out. So we still responded uh did an area check. They continued speaking with the reporting party. It was discovered that she did have some mental health issues and there was no stabbing. >> We're going to pull this car over. He was driving and then he went to the right into this bike lane and back into his lane. So it's swerving while driving. >> Make sure they're not impaired. >> Yeah. 591070 union extension in Maine. >> Hello. Do you know I'm stopping you today? >> What? >> So back there when you were driving on Main Street, you were swerving super far into the bike lane. >> Yeah, I am. >> Okay. Is there any reason for that? >> I just got out of work. So >> you just got off work? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Uh, can I get your driver's license? Do you have registration insurance for the car? Um, >> so I'm going to go ahead and run her information right now. I'm not noticing any signs of impairment. She was uh driving almost in the bike lane. Asked her and she said she just got off work. Maybe she was on her phone. That's typically usually what happens is people driving on their phone and they just don't want to admit it. >> You're just getting off work then? Going home? Long day. >> Oh, I don't blame you. I can't wait to go home. The Fries grocery store is calling in that there is a drunk man outside laying by a bicycle that they want to get moved along. >> There's some more comments now. >> Okay. Um they're calling in additional information. It looks like this man is now using drugs near the entrance. So, let's see how this goes. >> Fries is just calling in about you. You guys pull up here. >> Do you guys have any weapons on you? >> No. >> Okay. What are you guys doing out here? >> I'm just sitting here cooling off. I'm trying to go in the store, but I'm trying to quit stol quit sweating. >> Going to roll a cigarette, man. >> Okay. Well, here's the thing, right? This is Fry's property. There's a no trespassing sign just above you. >> And I just want to get out of here. >> They're going to want you to get out of here. But before you do, don't don't get up or anything. Don't get up or anything. We still got to get your identification before we can get you out of here. Is this your stuff, too? >> No, that's my stuff. >> That's your stuff? >> Yeah, this is mine. >> They saw you rolling something and they thought it was drugs. He even said, "I'm not sure if it's drugs." Okay. >> But still, this is still trespassing. >> We'll get out of here. I don't know about that. >> So, there's your ID back for you. >> Thank you. >> Just make sure if you're coming to the fries, you can so hot. >> Listen, you can go in, purchase stuff, and come out, but you cannot loiter around the business. Do you guys understand that? >> Yeah, but do you realize it's 115°? It is 115 out here in Arizona and this guy is just trying to take a break um and cool off for a bit. So, I offered him a bottle of water. I think that will help a little bit. It's not ice cold, but it's better than nothing. So, I'm going to go give it to him and get him on his way. >> It's not cold, but it's better than nothing. Okay. >> Thank you. >> All right. You guys have a great night. >> 120 running eastbound in the parking lot. Blonde hair. >> Blonde hair. Uh Goodwill just called in. A woman had shoplifted and she's running through the parking lot. We're looking for a a female with blonde hair. >> Hello. Can you take a seat on that bench right there? >> Sit down. Sit down. >> Sit on the bench. >> Sit down. >> Come on. Come over here. Sit down. >> Good. >> Goodwill. >> Sorry. Go ahead. Goodwill called and said that you were ste you were trying to steal items inside. >> I wasn't trying to steal anything. I had my money out and everything and she was calling. I don't know what the I don't know what her problem >> Well, she said you threw the items and ran. >> No, I I pushed everything up to the register and I and I and I started giving the girl the stuff and then she kept looking at me like I was and I told her I wasn't stealing anything. I flashed her my money and she was like she was just talking all of them. >> All right. Well, maybe it's just a misunderstanding. We're going to have other officers go over to the Goodwill and they're going to figure out everything. >> Okay. >> And then I will let them know what you said. >> Okay. >> But I do need to go to the hospital. >> For what? >> Because I have something all day. >> Right now, it doesn't look like the Goodwill wants to prosecute for the shoplifting, but they do want her trespassed. So, we wouldn't necessarily book her for shoplifting uh or the trespass. We'll just make it so she can't come back there again. Uh she does have a active Maricopa County Superior Court warrant. So, the other officer is going to talk with her. She requested the fire department. So, the fire department's going to come out. I >> swear to God, I did not take anything from them today at all. Nothing. >> I was going to pay for my stuff. I even showed her that. >> Why would you? >> I started putting stuff away. Everything that I had in my cart that isn't in my cart currently is on top of the shelves in there spread out. And I can take you guys in there and walk around and show you everything that I had in my cart and where it's at in there cuz I did not take anything. >> Are you going to dump your bag and take off? You didn't steal me. That doesn't make sense. >> So, what the plan is right now is the fire department's going to check her out. If she decides to go to the hospital, she decides to go to the hospital. If she doesn't, she has an active warrant. So, we'll confirm that and then book her into jail. So, that's typically what happens when people know that they have warrants. They know that we must take them to jail. Um, and kind of the only way out of it is going to the hospital. >> But she definitely has warrants for shoplifting. So, this isn't something new to her. >> Yes. >> It's not normal what she's describing is going on with her body. So, to air on the side of caution, they're going to get her checked out. And to be honest, we'll get her another day. We just got dispatched to a suspicious person. It's actually came out to be three subjects. Someone, a resident of an apartment complex, called in and said three people just jumped over their fence and then walked up to them asking them if they uh knew if the upstairs unit was vacant. And now they're leaving. 33 Paul, we're out with a white shirt just south of the intersection. Hey, >> how are you? >> Just go and take a seat on the curb. All right. >> Oh, can I get my bottle closer? >> No, I'll just leave it right there. >> All right. Is there a reason you're shopping me, officer? >> Yeah. I'm going to move your bag just to wait for you. Okay. >> All right. >> So, right now you're being detained. We got a call said that you were in apartment complex jumping over the wall. I don't have much of the details. Uh we're still waiting with another officer to go >> jumping over the wall. Coming out. >> I don't know. Where where were you at? Uh >> I was just right here. Listen up. Does that matter? Am I doing anything illegal? >> Like I said, it was someone called in about a suspicious person, right? >> Okay. >> It's a little bit Hold on. Listen to me. Is it suspicious for someone to jump over in a >> wall to an apartment complex? >> Anything illegal, officer? >> That's what they the other officers still have to go and speak with whoever called in. >> Okay. So, did I do anything illegal that I need to be here right now? >> Yeah. Right now, you're detained >> for what? >> I told you being a suspicious person. So, >> they don't know what you were doing. Listen, they don't know what you were doing with the vacant unit. They don't know if you were inside of it. That's uh they just called in. >> So, somebody called in. You know, police have to respond to things that people call in, right? And sometimes they're not always what they appear to be. This person called in you and two other people or somebody matching your description, okay, asked about a vacant unit upstairs and then they hopped a wall. We don't know. We weren't there. So, we're here to investigate it. We have a real-time crime center who picked you up on the cameras, who called it out to us, and we're just stopping you. So, until we actually go over there and figure this out, we have to keep you here just in case it's something else. If you didn't do anything wrong, just chill. You're going to be fine. >> Okay. >> My main thing is is that I have [ __ ] I'm supposed to do. So, like, if I'm not getting a ticket, getting trespassed, >> but you're detained. Do you understand that or no? >> I really don't. I don't understand why though. I just explained it to you. I just explained it to you. So, what aren't you getting? >> What What is What is the illegal act that was done? >> Do you understand what entertainment is? >> Do you want me to explain what >> I'm asking what is the illegal the illegal act that was done? >> Possibly trespassing if you don't belong on that property. >> Okay. That and that's what I'm saying. So >> So there you go. >> Copy. I'll let them know. >> All right. So here's the deal. that apartment complex you were in, you're now trespassed from there. So, if you go back there, you could be issu is issued a citation or taken to jail. But other than that, you're free to go. Okay. >> All right. And not to be an [ __ ] but like why why I just don't understand to begin with like we couldn't have asked Parkinson or like >> is this face match a person that has trespassed here? >> Well, we're not saying that you were trespassed there before. They're saying they've never seen this person on the property and so they called us. Like I explained to you, the cops have to go to every call for service and we just try to figure it out. >> So that's where we're at. >> Okay. >> All right. You're free to go. >> Ultimately, he's good to go. He doesn't have any warrants. He was told not to go back to the property and he's on his way home. >> Not every case that officer goes on results in an arrest or even something violent. Um there's a lot of other violations that we contact people for >> and we don't always have to give people tickets. You know, sometimes you can just educate people and you know, maybe they'll have a good experience or a better experience than they did last time. >> Yeah. No, but I like that especially because you mentioned earlier about your experiences with police growing up and so this is a way of letting people know that um police officers are out here to help you and to really guide you through the community and the rules and the laws that are in place for that city. At the end of the day, we're going home to our families. And so I would say it's a pretty good day. [Applause]
