Stop talking for like 3 minutes and let me watch the video. >> the part where I paid for it already. >> Stop talking. We haven't got to that part. >> I have money. >> Okay. >> They cannot tell me I have to go. I have money. And I did pick those up and I looked at them to check [music] the price. >> And then you left without paying for >> There's a fine line between overconfidence and a costly mistake. Starting with this woman, who seemed to have no idea what shame even was. >> No wire? >> Cuz I >> [music] >> don't have a wallet on me. Is there any way that I could could like walk out there with my hands behind my back? >> On the 8th of September, 2025, police were dispatched to Walmart after receiving a report of a shoplifting incident. The suspect was believed to be a young woman who had deliberately hidden merchandise in her purse to avoid paying for it. Here's what happened when officers arrived at the scene. >> What's up, darling? What you doing? >> Good. >> Hey, I'm Officer photo, Boise Police. What's your name? >> Lucy. >> Hi, Lucy. So, what's your name? >> Lucy. >> Hi, Lucy. So, I'm going to talk to them for a few minutes, all right? But, because you're back here detained, all right? You're not under arrest. I'm just going to read you your rights, okay? Does that make sense? >> Sounds perfect. >> Okay. Do you understand that? All right. >> While she remained completely calm while speaking with the officers, another officer spoke separately with the loss prevention staff to learn exactly what she had done before they arrived. >> Um, started watching her. She had a bag that looked pretty empty. Um, she then grabbed some HBA stuff. All her stuff? >> Yeah, so this is paid for, that's not paid for. >> Uh, she grabbed some type of skin lotion and another item from there. Um, as she was walking towards self-checkout, she put it into her purse. Um, but she then went grocery shopping, made her way to the self-checkout, and when she got to the register, she grabbed two chickens, scanned one, bagged two. Uh, uh, and then with the rest of the other items, like all the toilet paper and all that was underneath, so was the beer, was underneath. She grabbed the hangers, she only scanned one item that was down there, made no effort to scan the rest of the stuff. >> So >> Um, the clothing and the salmon was in the cart, she covered it with grocery bags. >> Okay. So, you watching this on camera or in person? >> Cameras and then the concealment on the floor. >> Okay. And you guys confronted her here in the foyer? >> Like right here around when she exited. >> Okay. And then she gave you the stuff out of her purse? >> Yes. Yes. >> Back with the suspect, she casually admitted what she had done, making no attempt to hide her actions and showing no sign of embarrassment as she explained everything. >> So, are you What what happened today? What's What brought us here? >> I stole some food. >> Okay. You know why or >> Cuz I don't have a a lot of money >> Okay. >> All right. What items did you steal? >> I stole I stole some toilet paper and two packs of two packs of the paper towels, some chicken, and Aqua White cloths. And I got sweats. >> And you think what? >> Some sweats. >> Some sweats. Okay. Did you put any of these items in your in your purse? >> Oh, and I did also grab a bottle of like hand lotion. >> Hand lotion? >> Working Hands, I think it's called. >> Okay. And you put Was that in your purse? >> Yes. >> Where were you at in the store when you put it in your purse? >> I was next to the makeup section, I think. >> Okay. So, in the cosmetic area. >> Yeah, wherever the lotion is at. >> Why did you put it in your purse? >> Um Why did I put it in my purse? >> Yeah. >> I wanted to grab it instead. >> Okay. So, the purse was used to more or less hide the item. >> Yes. >> Was there anything else in your purse that belongs to Walmart? >> And also a protein. >> Which is a protein shake? >> Yeah. >> Same thing? >> Yeah. And those are the only two items that were in my purse. >> Is there anything else in there that belongs to Walmart? >> No. >> Shortly afterward, the officer searched her belongings and found a debit card suggesting that she appeared to have the means to pay for the items instead of stealing them. Okay. I see you have a debit card. Um >> That's mine. >> Yeah. How much money do you have on your debit card? >> On my debit card? >> Yeah. Like, is this the only form of payment you have on you today? >> Yes. >> So, you don't have anything to pay like on your phone, no cash, nothing in your pockets? >> No. >> Okay. Yeah, so how much money's on this? >> I have enough $100 for groceries and the rest is for rent and utilities. >> Okay, so you you came in with $100 on this or there's $100 now after you purchased the items you did scan? >> There's There is still an like there's probably around $900 on it. >> Oh, $900? >> After after but I'm designating that for my rent and utilities. >> Oh, I see. So you have $900. You're just >> Yeah. >> given your monthly budget. >> Yeah. >> You're saying you have roughly $100 to spend on on groceries. Okay. Did you drive here today? I saw you have keys in there. >> Yes. >> Okay. Um What did you do first when you came in the store? Like where'd you go? >> I went to the grocery section and started >> Groceries? >> groceries in my cart. >> Okay. Then what? >> Then I went to the cosmetic section and grabbed a protein shake. Walked around >> Yeah. >> see if there was anything else that I needed. I don't really have like a grocery list or anything like that. >> She explained that she had a $100 budget for shopping but the officer noticed a problem after checking the receipt total. That raised suspicion that she may have intended to steal before she even came to the store. >> So if you came in here Help me understand this, I guess, because if you came in here with the intent intends to go grocery shopping, it sounds like, right? You know your budget's $100. Okay. The items you did pay for was you're saying are roughly 85 bucks. Do you know how much the items totaled that you stole? Like if you had to estimate the value of the stolen items, what would you guess it is? >> Maybe around 50 bucks. >> Okay. So that's where we need to figure this out. Okay? Because if you're saying your budget is $100, and you bought $85 worth of stuff, but stole $50, you see how that's not $100? So, what I'm getting at is that leads me to believe that you may have come into the store today with the intent to steal. Is that a fair statement? >> Okay, yeah. >> Okay. So, you knew you were going to come to Walmart today to steal things. >> I think I came into the Walmart with the intent to spend $85, and I also saw some other necessities that I needed. >> Yeah. What were those other necessities? >> Chicken, toilet paper, um alcohol wipes which I think I said I don't really need, but I grabbed it. >> Yeah. >> And >> At that [snorts] point, the officer was convinced of her criminal conduct and made his decision shortly afterward. >> You filled out the purple sheet? Okay. So, here's what we're going to do. Um Where did I put your ID? Lucy, I'll have you stand up for me, and just uh face the wall here, and put your hands behind your back. Okay? So, Walmart is uh placing you under citizen's arrest for two crimes. Okay? Uh misdemeanor petty theft, and also willful concealment of goods prior to exiting the store. Do you have questions about that? So, now my partner's just going to search you now incident to arrest, okay? >> Do you have anything tucked in your shorts or your bra or anything? Nothing else, nothing tucked in your shorts, right? I'm not going to feel that right now. >> You've got Spanx on. >> But if you get Okay, if you get into the jail and you have something tucked, it's a whole 'nother issue, right? Nothing? >> No. >> Okay. >> Okay, will you guys >> Sorry. >> Sorry, go ahead. What do you need? >> I I'm not going to run away. Is there any way that I couldn't couldn't like walk out there with my hands behind my back? >> No. >> Okay, so my partner's going to take you to my car while I finish up in here really quick. >> She was charged with misdemeanor petty theft and willful concealment of goods prior to exiting the store. Admitting to a crime does not erase the consequences, especially when the evidence already tells the full story. Even small acts of theft can quickly turn into criminal charges that leave lasting consequences. [music] Next, this doctor also tried playing the role of an innocent victim. >> I will just say um I didn't know I was taking. I'm an obstetrician-gynecologist. >> So, stealing that'd be that's something beyond the normal for you, right? >> On the 1st of January, 2026, officers were dispatched to an airport after receiving a report that a theft had occurred at one of the stores. The suspect was believed to be a woman who had already left the store after successfully stealing the merchandise. Here's what the store employee told officers about what happened. >> And where was it stolen? >> Here. There is this one customer coming. She's stopping here for our earrings. And she checked out the earrings. Uh only one. I asked her if she grabbed two. And she asked and she told me that only one. So, I checked out. But there are two There is one missing in the earrings. >> Because she paid >> While for one while standing here, there's another customer coming. She asked me something. That's why I'm talking to while she's standing here. Then after that, talking to the other customer, she check out. She asked, "Are you Mom, are you ready to check out?" And she said, "Yes." While also talking to the other customer, she also come here to look for our bracelet. So, there is one bracelet and one earring missing. I don't know if she's the one because while I'm checking it, there is another customer again coming here asking for the ring. Yes. But, I think the one who grabbed the one who bought the earring is the one who grabbed also the one earring. I'm not sure with this uh >> Do you have like a lot of inventory? >> Yes. I count all those around 1:30 and she came [music] here around 2:10, like that. I check in her out 2:30. >> She checked out >> call my supervisor because she's doing the >> Based on the store's description, officers quickly located the suspect inside the airport. They immediately approached her and began questioning her about the reported theft. >> Can we Can we talk to you for a second? You We just talk over here. Do you know why we're talking to you? >> Uh-uh. >> Were you in Kate Spade earlier? >> I was. >> take something that didn't belong to you? >> No. >> Are you sure? >> Yes. >> Okay, cuz our our cameras are tracking and they said that you may have picked up something that wasn't that wasn't new to us. >> I picked something up and I put it back down. >> What was it you picked up? >> Um some gold earrings. >> What? at Kate Spade? >> Uh he's coming to go through your things. Were there any other bracelets? >> I picked up rings that I wanted to purchase, but they did not have my size. >> Okay. >> No, I looked at a bracelet, but I put it right back down. >> Everything that you picked up, you put back down. You didn't actually take anything or >> No, I was trying to buy a trinity earring rings. >> What kind of earrings were they? >> They were kind of a big >> Big gold one? >> Uh-huh. >> Okay. Okay. Well, I mean, so here's the thing. They're missing a couple of items, and you were in the area. Y'all were really the only two that were in this store. >> two, yeah. >> Okay. >> Although she denied stealing anything, she correctly identified the exact items the store had reported missing. To be certain, the officers proceeded to search her belongings. >> Do you mind if we just look through your stuff, make sure you don't have those items? >> Sure. >> They said they were in her pocket. >> Yeah, she said when she when she was in there, like you put it in a pocket, but they said she you went a lot of places since you came from Kate Spade. >> Yeah, but there's nothing in my pocket. >> Okay. It looked like you put something in your pockets in the store, okay? >> That's why we're talking >> And then you're saying like you're not sure if you put something in there, but >> know if I had had my own earrings on at that point, I I put them on some at some point during >> not sure if you put your own earrings on from here, from when you left Kate Spade to now? >> These are mine. They're and they're a different brand. >> Okay. Well, I'm going to go through your belongings real quick, okay? Ma'am, this Come on. Step out. Step out. >> Okay. Okay. Okay. What are you looking for? I'm pulling out all my money and stuff. >> We're not going to take your money. >> Hey, we're not going to take your money. >> All right. >> Just go. Go. Go. Go. >> going to step over here. >> Just go over there. >> Okay. >> Sit back. >> Here, just right over here. We just need some space. That's all. >> Okay. All right. >> So, go stand over there. >> The woman repeatedly tried to interfere with the search, which immediately raised suspicion. She even began making statements that sounded like she was preparing excuses in advance in case the officers actually found something in her bag. >> I mean, I have some of those pieces. I buy tons of >> What? >> Kate Spade. >> Okay, so you have some Kate Spade in your bag right now, that's what you're saying? But it's not there. >> I think it's in my main suitcase. >> You think it's in your Where at in your main suitcase? In the front? >> checked bag or is it >> my checked bag. >> Okay. >> Why are you bringing that Why are you bringing your checked bag up right now? We're talking about stuff that could be in this bag in these bags. >> Okay. I mean, I do buy some Kate Spade. I was pricing some of the things to >> Do you have any Kate Spade in there right now? >> No, I don't believe so. >> What But you do have jewelry in the bag, that's what you're saying? >> Um I pulled out a small jewelry case that has um Kate Spade earrings in them. >> Okay. Is that what you were just reaching in your bag? >> No, I pulled that uh it's a thing that drawstring. >> Okay, but other than that, there should be no other jewelry in there? >> Not that I'm aware of. I mean, I packed very quickly this morning. I packed all my jewelry, but I don't think there's anything in there. >> What do you do for a living? >> I'm an obstetrician-gynecologist and I um working in underserved areas in New Mexico. >> So >> been down here for a year working. >> Okay, so like stealing that would be that's something beyond of norm for you, right? >> She claimed to be a doctor, someone who should have had no reason to shoplift. But unfortunately [snorts] for her, the officers noticed something suspicious inside her food pack, and the truth slowly began to unravel. >> What is it that she took? I don't got the I don't got the jewelry. I got the Come here. Where Where are they at? >> [clears throat] >> So those I did not buy here. Um So I had them. >> So why would I have the same SKU number 2299261 KS like KS ropes, not PV, KMT, pink. What? Where are they at? This would go a lot quicker if you could just tell us where they're at. >> All right, I'll tell you. I have the similar things that I picked up. But >> Ma'am, the coincidence >> Okay. I am happy >> What? >> I didn't take them. I have jewelry exactly like what I looked at. I'm happy to If I mean give you my What did you say? >> She insisted it was all just a coincidence, but her hesitant responses only made her story harder to believe. Moments later, she pulled out the stolen item herself and came up with another unbelievable excuse. >> All righty. >> So these I had. >> Okay. >> But if and I did pick those up and I looked at them to check the price. >> And then you left without paying for them. >> No, I put them back on the rack, but I don't remember putting them in my purse. I have that same set. >> See how this doesn't make sense? You put them back on the rack, but they these earrings fell into five zippers into your bag? >> So, I was later I was putting on jewelry and I put >> Where's the bracelets? They're missing bracelets as well. Where's the bracelets? >> Okay. Well, I priced that same bracelets. This is I purchased this in Lobby. This is >> That's the one they're they're missing. It was clear that she had been putting on an innocent act the entire time. The officers quickly brought her performance to an end. >> I Sharon, let's let's just be honest, okay? You're not a hard drama person. You're Just be honest. What happened? If you made a mistake, you know what I'm going to say. >> Okay. >> Just tell us what happened. Be honest. >> Just put that I made a mistake. I made a mistake in what happened with these pieces. >> You made a mistake and did what? Did you take something that belonged to you? >> I didn't think I had, but >> You're You're a grown woman. >> But >> You're an adult. >> I will say yes, I'm a grown-up. I've been up 36 hours on call. >> Okay. We don't need the excuses. >> I will just say um I didn't know I was taking them. >> You're going to Kansas? >> Yes. >> Wichita, Kansas? All right. Turn around. You're under arrest. Okay. >> I'm going to miss my flight. >> You said you're going to miss your flight? You're going to jail, Sharon. >> Can I pack myself up? >> We will do it for you. Just theft, right? >> Yeah. >> What if I went to the parking lot >> Our computer needs to be packed up. >> Everything that you took Well, not everything you took. >> Do you have to put the cuffs on? >> Yes. >> You're under arrest. >> Her policy. >> But we can go stand over here. >> In the end, the woman was charged with theft of property. Shoplifting often unravels not because of a single mistake, but because lies become harder to maintain as the evidence piles up. Taking responsibility early is always a better choice than trying to explain away clear proof. Even worse, this woman became an abuse of the English language, forcing officers to repeatedly tell her to stop talking. >> Stop talking for like 3 minutes and let me watch the video. >> Mr. Powell, I picked up the >> Stop talking, you shoplifter. Shoplifting and stealing are synonymous. Means the same thing. [music] You're going to jail. >> On the 16th of November, 2023, officers responded to a report of a shoplifting incident. The suspect, a woman, had already been detained in the store's loss prevention office. As soon as officers arrived, she immediately became defensive. >> Are you ready? Yes, we're pressing charges. Hello. >> Oh, it's a white female. >> Okay, I I asked you this before you even tried to take me down or anything like that. They said I didn't ring all my stuff up, but really I had rung all my stuff up. And even if I even if I don't have to ring all my stuff up, I still had money to pay for this Oh, that's what I was trying to tell them. And I was about to pay for it. And basically, he's just trying to mess me I mean >> I don't have to answer to point of sale, like I said. >> That's What you What you getting a police officer for and I could pay for my That's what I'm telling you. >> That's what I called them. That's what I I ain't telling you what point of sale was stolen merchandise. That's your mistake. >> I didn't steal nothing, bro. I paid for my I already What I'm telling you is it don't make sense for them to call the police and I got money right here for snacks, for some little [ __ ] like this? >> Well, so let me explain to you how shoplifting works, okay? Once you pass all points of sale and you make it obvious that you don't plan on buying the items, that's when you commit the crime, okay? It's completely up to the {quote} victim in this case, which the victim being Walmart, on whether or not they want to allow you to pay for the items or not and then just be done with it, right? >> Listen to me. >> I'm pressing charges. >> Listen to me. Listen to me. If they don't want to allow you to pay for it >> Just allow me to pay for my [ __ ] >> pressed charges, then that's their decision. >> And I got money right here. >> Go get the trash out of here. >> Hey, can you let me just pay for my stuff cuz I I thought I had already rung it up. >> And this over here that she dropped and paid for >> Or you could just give me a receipt on what I'm supposed to pay for. This [ __ ] stupid. >> She showed no remorse as she repeatedly insisted [music] on being allowed to pay for the unpaid items. However, none of her arrogance helped and officers [music] proceeded to place her in handcuffs shortly afterward. >> I'm going to put my >> Ma'am, you have to put your hands behind your back, okay? >> What's wrong with you? >> So, I'm going to do >> Yes. >> For what? >> Put your hands behind your back for shoplifting. >> I paid for stuff. >> Put your hands behind your back. Put your hands behind your back. >> Okay, so what about my paid for stuff? What about that? >> Give me this. Give me your hand. Hey. Stay against the wall. Do what I tell you to do or you're going to catch another charge. Do you understand me? >> I didn't steal it. >> deep breaths. >> I paid for that stuff. You want to see how You want to see how much >> Face the wall. Stay right there. Stop. Do what I tell you to do or you will catch another charge. Do you understand me? Calm down. >> But you you you're putting me in handcuffs for nothing. You can't even tell me why. >> arrest. Stop. Stop. Stop. It's time. >> I hate the [ __ ] police, man. >> Good. I'm glad. >> All right, let me put my >> Hand me this. Let it go. >> Are you serious? >> Face the wall. Stop. Quit moving. Do what I tell you to do or you're going to go on the ground. >> So, you already going to let this man take me to [ __ ] jail and I paid for >> Machine 75 was there a request for forensics? >> Officer, did you request forensics? >> Like I hold up, man. I know I I know I >> Machine 422. >> You going to take me to jail just for no reason and I paid for something, okay? So, you need to at least tell him I had paid for my groceries before you start lying. >> While she continued insisting she was innocent, store employees showed officers a very different story, one clearly captured by the store's surveillance cameras. >> Paid for my tape. >> We needed customer service. Erica from the mall team, customer service. >> Stay against the wall. Scoot over. Stay right there. Do not move. >> I'm doing the video. You want to play it back? >> All right. Yes, ma'am. >> And some say >> Hey. Hey. >> She paid for $24 worth of stuff and stole approximately $50 worth of stuff. >> Okay, well, listen. Check this out. On some real dog. Hey. So, okay. You going to take me to jail, right? And I paid for my merchandise, right? You sitting right here seeing me on camera pay for my stuff. I'm talking to the officer, too. You don't you You don't see me pay for my stuff? >> What did I just tell you? Stay against the wall. >> Okay, but you missing the part where I >> I'm watching. >> You missing the part where >> I've been talking for like 3 minutes and let me watch the video. >> the part where I paid for the dog. >> Stop talking. We haven't got to that part. >> All right. All right. All right. But, you missing that part. >> All this talking you're doing is not helping your case. >> I'm going to put her in the back. >> You missing the part where I paid at. You cuz I'm I'm looking I'm looking right right at the video where I'm paying for my [ __ ] at. >> So, this is what we have for it. Like she paid for two items but five in a bag. Two items, five in a bag. >> Even when I buy them, but I scan all that stuff. So, you mean I buy them and scan them and I got money. I told him to ring it up and just go ahead and pay for it. Go ahead and let me pay for it. You see I got money right here. And you see I paid for my And you still cutting this? Ring it up. I'm talking to you. Man in the blue shirt, hello. >> And then do you have her walking out? >> Yeah. >> Yes. Can I see that real quick? >> a receipt. I paid for my >> She repeatedly interrupted the officers as they tried to investigate the incident, showing little patience or respect. [music] Even when officers were speaking directly to her, she constantly talked over them instead of listening. >> Listen to me. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. As I've explained them to you, are you willing to answer any questions without an attorney present? >> Yo, what I'm saying is you can >> Okay. So, that's a yes? I can't talk to you unless you give me a yes or no. >> Yo, but I'm saying why is I'm even going >> So, check it out. Listen to >> I'm going through right now. Why is I'm going >> All right. Listen to >> Listen or whatever. >> Stop speaking and let me talk and answer your questions. Right now, you are under arrest for misdemeanor shoplifting. >> I did not shoplift. I paid for my stuff. >> They have you on camera shoving [snorts] bags of potato chips. Huh? >> I did not. I paid for them. That's what I'm telling you. You didn't see They see You didn't see me on there paying for the stuff. >> No. You were shoving them straight from the buggy into the bag. >> I scanned them. >> You did not scan them. I watched it on camera with my own two eyes. >> What I paid What I'm telling you is >> So, how much money did you spend? >> I spent 27 something. >> And how much was all the stuff worth? >> She's doing it right now. >> The chips is The chips is The chips is worth 20 The chips is like $10. >> It was $24 in this one bag. >> It's 27. >> She stole around 50, is my guess. >> HOW? HOW WHEN I ONLY HAD 10 BAGS OF CHIPS? DID YOU EVEN COUNT? >> Listen to me. You keep screaming, we can't talk. >> had 10 bags of chips. The chips is a dollar. I got all that money right there and you can't let me go for for >> That's It's my choice. That's theirs. >> And I And I had paid for stuff. >> If you move all past points of sale without paying. >> Can y'all can y'all talk real quick? >> So what's fixing to happen is a female is coming. She's going to search you. >> Okay, my money right there. >> Okay. >> You going to take me to jail for $10 basically? >> They want to press charges, I have to. I don't have a choice. If they want to press charges, they tell me I want to press charges. >> At that point, the total value of the stolen merchandise was confirmed. Instead of backing down, however, she became even more arrogant convinced that she couldn't possibly go to jail over such a small amount. >> All right, so you're going to jail for $38.80. >> I paid that. >> No, you did not. >> So why you can't just give us the $38 for right now cuz he said it's our choice. He said it's our choice. >> It's not my choice, I'm pressing charges. I'm making an exception cuz for one, I feel like >> trying to press charges for $38? >> Cuz it's my job. I got a job to do, I'm going to do You need for $38 or more? >> Listen to me. Listen to me. You broke the law. >> Okay, let me explain to you why my policy. If you got no ID, we call the police. You don't >> I don't have a ID. >> If you got $25 or more, we call the police. You had $38, that's $25. And guess what, if you get aggressive, we call the police. You did all three in one night, baby, you going to jail. Anything else you need to know? I can break the policy down for you. >> Listen, the money was right there. >> I can't take your money. I will not take your money. It's a bribe, baby, and I don't do bribes. >> Listen to me. Listen. Listen to me. Listen to me. I think you need to quit asking them questions as far as why they're pressing charges. Listen and ask yourself why you didn't spend the $40. You paid for some of it, not all of it. >> I didn't steal it. >> You did. You did not pay for >> Or else I would have just walked right out. >> That's >> I showed them my receipt and all. >> Okay, you shoplifted it. How about that? That's textbook. You shoplifted. Shoplifting and stealing are synonymous. Means the same thing. You're going to jail. >> For nothing? >> It didn't end there. During a search of her person, officers discovered another issue, adding an additional charge to the list of offenses she was already facing. >> And you couldn't even just take the $38? >> Yeah, she had that, too. You could smell it the whole time. >> smell it, but still, it's nice to >> So, you're also going to catch a misdemeanor marijuana charge. Okay? This is the receipt for >> receipt. This The stuff that she paid for. >> What's your last name? >> I ain't got no last name. >> They'll figure it out at the jail. >> Got to say, if if you don't tell me your name, you're going to catch an obstruction charge. Okay. Well, you're being charged with obstruction. >> See, that's what we call it obstruction. >> And that's the same thing. >> Yeah. And that's why we was going to let her go. We was going to let her go. >> Man, that's two That's another He wasn't Have you seen me pay for something? Y'all asked a lie. You just be lying about [ __ ] I can't tell you. >> There's no way because I know how you guys' camera systems work. You saw her take something or not pay for something or switch a tag or something. There was something. >> Oh, yeah. But, we were still going to let her go. >> Well, >> All we're going to All we wanted to do was ban her, and she couldn't even give us her birthday. >> I gave you my birthday, SO SHUT UP. SHUT UP. >> THAT'S That's exactly why you're going to jail. >> You shut up. >> The woman was charged with misdemeanor shoplifting, obstruction, and misdemeanor marijuana possession. Trying to argue after being caught rarely changes the outcome, especially when surveillance footage clearly documents what happened. >> [music] >> Cooperating with officers and taking responsibility is far more likely to help than denying the evidence or escalating [music] the situation. Next, we're stepping away from shoplifters, but don't go anywhere because this woman won't disappoint. >> Who's the manager? >> I am. Ma'am, that's it. >> Ma'am, thank you. >> What are you doing? >> Can I go? >> Then you're not getting a felony for that. >> I want a felony. Charge me with a felony. >> We got a white female out of Florida. >> On the 27th of November, 2025, officers approached a woman at a store after she was reported for causing a disturbance. Who's the manager? >> The woman was visibly irritated with the officer. All she had to do was leave the store and the situation would have been over, [music] but instead, she made it clear she had no intention of leaving without causing more trouble. >> Ma'am, that's it. >> Ma'am, thank you. >> What are you doing? >> Can I go? >> Put your hands behind your back. >> Thank you. >> Put your hands behind your back. >> Yes, I do. >> What We're being detained right now. >> I know I am. >> What is your problem, ma'am? >> I hate everything in this state. >> 409 429 Can I get you to come to the lobby? I'm sorry. I Oops. >> Despite her unstable behavior, the woman continued to deny what she had just done. As officers escorted her outside, they also began questioning whether her erratic behavior was the result of intoxication. Have you been drinking tonight, ma'am? >> No, I have not. >> So, why are you acting like this? >> What do you care? >> Okay. >> Does it matter? >> Does it Does what matter? >> Does it matter whether I've been drinking or not drinking? At this point, she simply would not stop talking, constantly blurting out one incoherent statement after another. >> You're not getting a felony for that. >> I want a felony. Charge me with a felony. >> You'll be walking out of Florida. >> God, I hate you, [ __ ] I dropped it. Butterfingers. Oops, I dropped it. Oops. Dude, just take me to jail. Come on. Let's just go. I had Didn't they Didn't that cracker tell you I got food on my on my account? >> Ma'am, why do you seem like you're so upset about this? >> BECAUSE I HATE THE POLICE. >> OKAY, HAVE YOU BEEN DRINKING TONIGHT or have you taken any drugs or anything? >> Oh my god. Oh my god. >> Shortly after another officer arrived to assist at the scene, the first officer went back inside the store to obtain witness statements from the employees about what had happened. >> Can you go ahead and give me like a timeline? [music] >> Uh she had a huge line. I walked over. There was a salad sitting there. I said, "Hey, what's this?" She said, "There's a lady. She doesn't really know what she's doing. I think she might be drunk." I was like, "Okay." She walked back around from the kiosk and grabbed her salad and put down a piece of paper. She was like, "Just these two things." I scanned them. She was trying to pay with uh EBT food stamps and the sub sandwich that she was trying to get was a toasted sandwich. You can't pay for hot food with food stamps. So, it rang up to like I don't even know, 12, 16 bucks or something like that. And she paid for it and it was a remaining balance of $8.99. I told her that. She was like, "No, just take it off." Then, when I took it off, you have the entire tender before you can take off the item. So, I did that. It put the money back on the card and then when I took off the sandwich, she still owed the balance for the salad. So, now she had to swipe her card again. Uh and it was $6.99. And then, she swiped her card too fast and it didn't go through. So, then I asked her one more time to swipe it again and that's when she kind of started getting angry. She told me that we were trying to steal $40 from her for her salad and kind of just like caused issues at that point. Jesse tried to get her to go over to her his register because I thought maybe my machine wasn't working or it froze up. And then, I let him handle it and I walked away. I was outside when they told me that there was a mess to come clean up and there was follow-up before it. So, I missed that end interaction, but I was there for like her getting upset. I actually saw >> The woman was charged with disorderly intoxication and criminal mischief causing less than $200 in damage. Retail workers have the right to ask disruptive customers to leave and refusing to comply can quickly escalate a situation. Staying calm and cooperating with lawful requests is always a better choice than letting emotions lead to criminal charges. Worse yet, meet the man who turned an entire store upside down. >> When you talk about it, put your hands behind your back. Put your hands behind your It's mandatory, mother Move. We haven't hurt you. Hey. Stop. Stop. You are out of the store. >> On November 12th, officers responded to a Kroger after receiving reports of two disorderly men. One was threatening and trying to touch customers, while the other was attempting to shoplift merchandise. When officers arrived, the situation was still chaotic. >> Hey. Hey, calm down. >> HEY, SO, SIR, IF YOU WANT ME TO ASSIST YOU, YOU'LL DIE IN THE RIVER. >> TURN AROUND. >> YOU WANT ME TO ASSIST YOU, YOU'LL DIE IN THE RIVER. Give me a Give me your >> When you talk about it, put your hands behind your back. >> Dude, put your hands behind your >> Yeah, I had a little chuckle. >> Put your hands behind your back. >> I see you, Bucky. >> Put your hands behind your back. Dude, let's not let's not make this bigger than what it is. Put your hands behind your back. >> Like here, it's [music] not like >> Dude, put your hands behind your back. >> Do what he says, man. Do what he says. >> Hey, this is my chance to put my hands behind my back. >> You got Timmy. >> It was clear that he had no intention of cooperating, showing no concern for the disruption he was causing inside the store. Instead, he continued confronting the officers, forcing them to move in and place him under arrest. >> SBU And I'll be me. I ain't finished it [ __ ] MOVE. >> WHO ARE YOU? >> HEY. STOP. STOP. You are in the store. You will stay. Hey, this is still incredible. Put your hands behind your back. It's still true. It's still true. You're incredible sucker. You're not true. You're incredible. >> Hands behind your back. Hands behind your back right now, man. I got one in the car. >> His actions had already caused damage to the store, but he showed no intention of stopping. Even after being taken outside, he continued making it difficult for officers, forcing them to use additional restraints to keep his behavior under control. >> Why is your blood all over the place? We used those Styrofoam beers. And his vest only for pieces. Died up. Tell Anthony he's the best all around. We want our talent to be You killed me, man. I don't know what to do about it, boy. Remember he acted this way and then he calmed down? >> Yeah. >> I can't. It's his money, man. >> Y'all good on search? >> Yeah. >> We did everything we were supposed to do. The scale's got to go back to our apartment. >> 22, that's correct. Take it out. >> you guys. All you guys >> Sam, get in the car. >> Cut trace. Well, he's he's the cut trace of our charisma, okay? That charisma is Anthony Enrique Burris, too, okay? >> That's crazy. >> Call that guy as we leave. >> This is how it was last time. >> After successfully arresting the man, officers returned to the store and continued interviewing employees to piece together exactly what had happened before they arrived. >> All right. What all did he damage in here? >> Uh a bunch of flowers, stuff like that. And there's I think he threw it through one of the corners. >> What clerk is in there? >> Who did he touch? He touched the eyes man here. >> The eyes man here. >> He tried to hit her in the face. Okay. >> Hannah. come get it, girl. He's so cute. Put him on the bike. >> And then there's another guy that >> Yeah, we're trying You had to deal with him cuz we're fighting with this guy, so Give me the door. >> I I think the >> Woah, get him. >> I guess, yeah. Like he was like he was on my phone and he like kind of like yelled at my face. >> You feel scared? The guy that touched you? >> Yeah, I think I was And then he kind of like grabbed my arm. >> What's your What's your last name? So that guy grabs Okay. >> 2007 >> Uh we're going to go and charge him for uh simple assault. Oh, did he threaten to hit you? >> Um no, he didn't threaten to hit me. >> But he put his hands on me. >> Yeah, I still felt it. >> Okay. All right. >> That one we didn't stop, but we stopped him. I think he was with another guy. We stopped trying to walk out with some stuff. >> So the other guy didn't do anything? >> No, they didn't try to walk out with stuff, but he was like >> Yeah, assault anybody, yell at anybody? >> We all have it on video. We can record our CCTV real quick about who tried to grab an employee. >> With the second suspect having successfully fled after attempting to steal merchandise, officers turned to the store's surveillance footage in an effort to identify him and determine exactly what role he had played in the incident. >> That grabbed the employee. >> That's the guy that >> Okay. >> The other guy just grabbed her purse. >> Okay. >> And I knew he was going to stop me. He had this only black thing covering up his face. >> Multiple backpacks? >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> And he's loaded up on laundry detergent. >> Yeah. >> He knows he knows what he's like. He going to call on me to hold on. I said I sure will. He ain't going to sit and hold >> So did he Did he steal anything? >> to the manager's office. He took the burglar out the front door. He said that he come in. >> Yes, ma'am. >> And then I grabbed the shopping. >> Okay. >> He didn't get it. >> So, we were we were going to go out with him, but our guys were fighting this dude in here. So, that's why we went ahead and just came over here and they kicked the other guy out. So. And I came back from my dog bite. I got out with him on the loop and he ran off from me and caused this big wreck on the loop getting traffic. I'm surprised y'all didn't call earlier. What he's asking? Yeah, we dealt with this dude an hour ago on Oglethorpe. He was yelling at cars and stuff and Right there on the corner? Yeah, he comes at him way different than he does with the girls. Does the the kid flop? >> The man was charged with simple battery, disorderly conduct, criminal trespass, and obstruction of officers. As for his accomplice, the store ultimately decided not to press charges and he was only issued a criminal trespass notice. A moment of reckless behavior can have lasting legal consequences while refusing to respect others only makes the situation worse. Taking responsibility and cooperating early is always the wiser path. Next, this woman kept resisting arrest while trying to portray herself as the victim. >> Stop acting LIKE A CHILD. >> [screaming] >> ON THE 25TH OF MARCH, 2024, officers were dispatched to a laundromat after confirming that a shoplifting suspect had fled inside. They waited for her to come out of the restroom, but instead of surrendering, she immediately resisted the officers. >> How are you doing, man? >> Good. >> What what what do you >> What are you doing? Get off me. >> Relax. Relax. Don't start up. All right? Don't start up right here. Put your stuff down. Put your stuff down. >> What do you want? >> You know what I want. Just put your stuff down. Stop acting up. Put your stuff down. Did I not tell you >> No! >> I told you not TO, ALL RIGHT? >> NO! >> NOW YOU'RE GOING TO GET CHARGED FOR YOU'RE GOING TO CALM DOWN. NOW YOU'RE GOING TO GET CHARGED FOR YOU'RE GOING TO GET CHARGED for >> No! No! No! >> Let me get >> No! No! No! No! >> Relax. Relax. Relax. The officers had to use force to arrest her because she had also been accused of assaulting store employees before fleeing. At that point, she began acting as though she was the victim. I tell you to stop. Relax. Relax. Three teams code four and two more okay. >> Ma'am, roll over. I got to get you up. Stand up. Stand up. Ma'am, you need to stand up. It's over, ma'am. It's over. >> Stand up. >> You're not going anywhere. It's over. Okay? Let's walk to the car. It's over. It's done. >> She refused to cooperate or even stand up, forcing back-up officers to arrive and help escort her outside. >> Stop kicking. Can you grab those? Feet first. Let's check in this one. >> [screaming] >> Although she pretended to cry, not a single tear fell. She continued directing her aggression at the officers, and even after being placed in the patrol car, she never stopped kicking the inside of the vehicle. >> Stop acting LIKE A CHILD. >> DOWN. >> LET ME SEE IT. LET ME SEE IT, PLEASE. I was just going to take her shoe off. Come on, let me see. >> Hey, just wanted to show you the >> Just Just take her shoe off. >> She's kicking with her shoes. Watch yourself. >> Is it hot? >> I can't tell. I didn't get to see her face. >> While she continued acting out in frustration, the officers searched her bag and found merchandise inside. >> You all right? >> I'm good. >> You all right? >> Yeah, I'm good. >> And she probably got other stuff in her bag. We got to We got to GO TO CVS. THAT'S WHERE I'M COMING FROM. SEE, THEY THEY THEY spotted her. I detained her. This is our This stuff from CVS. >> Oh, is it? >> Yeah. >> All right. You can take it. Steve Steve is going OVER THERE NOW. >> GET HER OUT OF HERE. >> YEAH, WE'RE GOING TO TAKE THAT STUFF OUT OF HERE REAL QUICK. JUST TAKE IT ALL OUT. >> HERE, you want to just take all this to headquarters? >> TAKE THIS TO UH >> THE WOMAN was charged with shoplifting, assault on store employees, resisting arrest, and battery on a law enforcement officer. Resisting arrest only makes a bad situation worse. Cooperating with officers and taking responsibility for your actions is always a better choice than escalating the consequences. Even more shocking, the next shoplifting case involved a daughter who led her own mother into stealing. >> And that's fine. Again, you didn't make any attempt to pay for any of these items, correct? I like You didn't because you didn't pay for them, right? >> On the 25th of June, 2024, officers responded to a report from Nordstrom that a student and her mother had stolen a large amount of merchandise. Upon arriving, the loss prevention officer immediately pointed out the signs of their shoplifting. >> Hey, how you doing? >> This was recovered off of her purse. Um she had scissors on her. They took the makeup, the handbag, and the shoes. >> Okay. >> They removed the sensor from the shoes with either the scissors or the pliers. >> Got you. And then if you just have your driver's license on you, I'll grab that from you as well. All right, do you speak Do you speak English? >> Yeah, I do. >> Okay. >> But she understands a bit, like I need to translate to her. >> What What language? >> Bangla. >> Bangla? >> Yeah. >> Okay. Do you guys have driver's licenses? >> Um I don't have my wallet, but I can show you in >> have a Florida driver's license? >> Yes, I >> She has one as well? >> No, she doesn't. >> Okay. >> She has her ID, but she doesn't have a driver's license. >> What state is the ID out of? >> Uh Florida. >> Florida. Okay, got you. All right. Do you need a receipt? >> Um >> Do you need to separate the stuff to give to you? >> Yeah. I'm going to do it this way. >> It's all going to be together. They're They're going to get charged all together. >> Yeah, they were together the whole time. >> Yeah, that's Yeah, that's what I thought. >> Meanwhile, other officers separately interviewed the loss prevention officer to obtain a first-hand account of what he had seen on surveillance cameras. >> Can you just tell us what happened? >> So, I was doing uh floor surveillance in this department. Um when I saw the subject, which was the one wearing the blue shirt and blue jeans, the older subject, approach the makeup area, start selecting numerous makeup items. Um I began surveillance because of the quantity she had selected it. Uh she placed it on top of her purse. Um and then she went and she selected a black Kate Spade handbag, put that in the shopping cart that she had with her. Um she then, while in the checkout line, she started putting the makeup into the purse. Um it was a blue purse, I believe. And then they uh exited the department both both subjects. Went into men's shoes. The older subject that still had the purse in the cart. Attempted to remove the sensor. Couldn't do it. >> Do you know what she used to try to remove it? >> At that time, no. >> Okay. >> They both went into women's shoes. >> was just trying to pull it off. >> Yeah. Okay. Got you. >> They both went into women's shoes. Um the younger subject pulled object There was a silver object out of her purse. Gave it to the mom. She took the sensor kept it off of her purse. Gave it back to the daughter the tool and then she put it back in her purse. >> Okay. >> Um then she took the purse and she put it in the brown Nordstrom shopping bag that the daughter had. >> Okay. Did they bring that in with them, do you know? >> Um they had it on them when I started watching them. So I believe so. >> Immediately afterward, the daughter was separated for a private interrogation. It seemed as though she was about to confess, but it quickly became clear that she had other plans. >> Can I leave? Like my mom said we didn't take the first time. So I'm saying like for me and my mom it was like our first time. So today all I did was like the makeup. And even the guide like I wanted to buy it. So they were saying that it's a security thing. That wasn't the case. And like if you look at the video the bag had nothing in it. So what I came in with to return. That's all. So it was the makeup and the slides. And uh the purse. But like if you guys want to give me like I'll pay for everything right now. That's like what my mom was saying as well. Cuz truly like it was a mistake cuz we have like never done anything before. And even with the the kitchen scissors and everything cuz our house is like so new. And we were going to HomeGoods to buy the painting. And you removed like a few of the paintings and everything and that was the only reason cuz to hang them and stuff. I have literally not used them for anything like the security tags what they were talking about. And even like the woman inside like she she knows and she's like I she saw it that there was no security tag or none of those things were like used to cut anything. >> Okay, so from what I understand you said that you you came in here to return. >> Would you have believed her story so easily? The officers certainly didn't. After reviewing the surveillance footage they began exposing the woman's lies one by one. >> When I watched that video and you came in without a pair of shoes. You didn't come into the store with a pair of shoes. >> Yes, I came in with Yeah. >> That's not what the video shows. >> No. I'm telling you I'm being truthful. >> Okay, so you come in with a pair of shoes. >> I It's in the my mom's turn back like I had >> Okay, so you come in you say with the pair of shoes, right? You said you guys went and looked at the makeup section, correct? >> Yeah. >> Okay, so did you select the makeup or did mom select the makeup? >> Mom. >> Mom, okay. So mom selected the makeup. Do you know exactly what she took? >> Not sure. >> Okay, was the makeup for you? Do you mind going around for me? Just give us a minute, please. So she selected the makeup. Who is the makeup for? >> Not for me. >> It was not for you, but you knew she was taking the makeup. >> Yeah, I had I had a first like >> Did you guys discuss that she was going to take the makeup? [clears throat] >> No, nothing like this like our intention was to buy everything like even even the bags cuz we always I come in and I always buy and everything. >> Okay, so real quick. She grabs the makeup, right? Where does she put the makeup? >> It's on the cart. >> On the cart, okay. >> The whole time. >> She didn't put it in her bag? >> And I think in the last moment >> Did she put it in the bag? Her purse, correct? Not the purse that you got from the store, right? >> Yes. >> Okay, so she puts it in her purse. After she puts it in her purse >> I'm not sure cuz I think it's I'm I'm not sure if I'm wearing I think it's the bag either or that cuz I didn't see properly. >> Okay, that's fine. So you guys are at the makeup section. Once you leave the makeup section, where do you guys go? >> Uh we were just checking the shoes. >> Okay, which shoes? Men's or women's? >> Uh we checked the men's shoes. >> Okay, so you're in the men's shoes section. What happens next? >> Uh we just take out pair of slides just as a gift. And yeah, that's it. >> The confusion on the woman's face only made it harder for her to hide the truth. Moments later, the officers gave her one more chance to come clean. >> Yes. Were you thinking about paying for the items that you guys had? >> That's what we had first in our mind to pay for it. >> thinking about paying for it. Okay. So what happened between thinking about paying for it and leaving without paying? Did you guys have a conversation saying, "Nah, I'm not I'm just not going to pay." or what happened there? >> It wasn't like my like I took anything. I it was mostly like my mom. >> just her mom that took everything. >> But I was there so I I like I'm just standing there. >> had took the items. Okay. So you never got in line, you never attempted to pay for the items. >> I was having conversation with her like about the returning the shoes. >> Okay. >> Cuz and then I just we walked out. >> Okay, so you never attempted to pay for the items, never got in line to pay for them, you just left without paying. >> having the conversation about like let's pay like before putting in about returning and cuz we hadn't put anything before. It was at the last minute. >> Okay, so you had a conversation about paying for the items and then you guys decided not to pay for them, right? So you walked out the door, you passed all points of sale, didn't attempt to pay for anything, correct? >> At the last moment like we we wanted to pay like >> But you didn't. >> Yes, yes. >> Okay, got it. So you got outside the store and that's when the loss prevention officer stopped you, correct? Okay. Let's talk about all of the screwdrivers, clippers, all that stuff, the scissors. What's all that for? >> Okay. So, even if you see the bag, none of the items had any security tags or nothing. >> I can tell you right now, and we're being honest, and I'm going to level with you because this isn't my first day, right? All of the high-end bags that they have here all have security tags. >> But I'm I'm I know that >> It did. I'm going to tell you it did have a security tag. >> That's what I'm >> That Listen to me. Don't talk over me, okay? >> If you paid close attention, she only admitted those details after the officer specifically asked about them. She never voluntarily confessed to what she had done. The same went for cutting off the security tag as she seemed determined to minimize her responsibility. >> So, that mom's holding the bag, she tried to cut the wire for the anti-theft or anti-shoplifting device when you guys were at a different section in the store. When you guys went to the shoe section, you handed her clippers, she cut it, and you guys left. Is that accurate? >> No, I'm the It's It's the shoe area where we took it, but none of the things were cut. Like, I'm being completely honest. That bag did not have anything in it. Like, no security >> You've been honest with me thus far, so I'm It's a little frustrating for me when you're lying to me about cutting the anti-theft device off of it. >> you like I have not. >> Okay. >> The entire time I'm being honest, like if you check that bag did not have any type of tag in it. >> I'm just so that you're aware, he's saying he watched you guys do it, right? >> No. >> I have video of you guys doing it, right? So, you're saying you didn't do it, which that's fine. You have every right to say you didn't do it, >> I'm But I'm being really honest to you. >> Okay. >> The bag did not have it. >> Okay. And that's fine. Again, you didn't make any attempt to pay for any of these items, correct? >> I like >> You didn't because you didn't pay for them, right? Right? >> Yes. >> Okay. >> I understand. >> You said that you've done this before, correct? But just with makeup? >> No, no, no. I'm saying it's my first time. I'm saying it's my first time with I've done the makeup thing. Like the >> You have You have taken makeup before. I'm wearing You said that to me. You said that you've done You've taken makeup before. >> No, I'm talking about that certain makeup. That's what I'm saying. Like my mom has never done anything. >> So, mom's never shoplifted before. You're saying you've taken makeup prior. >> section >> Okay. >> and she chose everything. So, I'm saying the makeup was like the first I did like that's what we going to do. The bag and everything we plan on buying. >> Okay, but you didn't. >> No. >> So, >> Yeah. >> your intent was to never buy anything, correct? >> In the end, [music] the student and her mother were charged with grand theft. Crime often begins with small lies, but those lies only make the consequences far worse. Taking responsibility early is always better than trying to hide the truth. Next, the man believed he could innocently talk his way out of the consequences. >> I'll put you in handcuffs. >> going to do is I'm going to do this for you. Put your hands behind your back, okay? >> That's the only question I got. >> So, the reason >> On the 28th of August, 2025, officers were dispatched to a Walmart after receiving reports of a man committing theft. [music] And upon arriving at the scene, officers approached the man, but what happened next turned out to be far more unexpected. >> You don't need to shoot. >> We already got the We already got the >> Don't need to shoot, man. Put your hands >> I got the receipt, man. >> I'm telling you we got a >> Go ahead and put your hands BEHIND YOUR BACK. >> SIR, WE GOT A RECEIPT, MAN. >> AND PUT YOUR HANDS BEHIND YOUR >> STILL 35. ONE DOLLAR. PUT YOUR HANDS BEHIND YOUR BACK, MAN. >> WE BOUGHT THAT. >> [ __ ] HANDS BEHIND YOUR BACK. >> WE BOUGHT IT. I PROMISE WE BOUGHT IT. We're good. Thank you. >> Did we take the phones out of the store? >> Yeah. >> Chill, dude. We watched you on camera the whole time. Just stop. >> What you got me doing what though? >> Stop. >> The man attempted to deny fleeing when officers approached him. And not only that, he also denied the theft itself, making it a stubborn move despite knowing his escape had already failed. >> Oh, the one you returned? Yeah. >> Just stop. Yeah, yeah, we'll do it in there. >> We'll unhook him in there. We'll unhook him when we get inside, man. >> You're not I feel like we just fought with you now. I was >> Y'all are not trying to talk though. >> Let's go. Let's go. Literally, let it go. >> Oh, yeah, yeah. >> All right. So, the reason why obviously we're making contact with you is because you literally switched it. You put the the one that you purchased or whatever item that you had, you put it on the shelf, grabbed the new one, you returned it. That's fraud return. >> Oh, no, no, no. I was going to turn I didn't I didn't want them to decline me because of the and >> We saw you do it, but that's not how it works. >> Although he tried to appear calm, the man clearly showed anxiety on his face. And even after being tased, he continued to deny his earlier actions. >> Uh, I'm not running from them. I'm just trying to talk to them and ask them why they trying to put me in handcuffs. >> What I'm going to do is I'm going to do this return for you and then we'll go from there, okay? >> That's all the question I got. >> So, the reason the reason I got >> No, I'm not mad at you. I'm mad I'm I'm trying >> What are you talking to? >> No, I'm trying to explain to him though. I'm not mad I'm not mad at you. >> [laughter] >> I'm I'm just saying that I was trying to ask a question and they trying to arrest me. >> No, they're trying to detain you. That's different. >> They didn't say they were going >> Yeah, that's what I told you twice. >> Hey, hey, I saw you. >> Yeah, that's what I'm saying. What did you have here? What did you purchase? You still tried to walk out with that after you made your return. So, that's the reason why we're making contact with you. >> Okay. >> And they're making contact. So, it's still theft. You got what I'm saying? See what I'm trying to >> So, it's petty theft. >> Yeah. >> So, what I'm trying to know, Mr. Bowers, what I'm trying to explain to you I heard you under arrest and I'm trying to explain to y'all the situation. And I'm thinking that's under arrest though, but I'm trying to explain to you but I'm trying to >> I didn't touch them though. You didn't even give them a chance to listen to you. >> And I understand that and I'm trying to I'm trying to And I'm trying to I'm trying to explain and I'm trying to explain to him though. That's what I'm trying to explain on my mindset what my head over there. I'm trying to explain to y'all what my head at though. I didn't know that. I'm thinking under arrest for what? My question is for what? Can I explain myself? We going to talk? As soon as I try to explain myself, y'all talking about Y'all tackling me. >> It could be said that the man was attempting to manipulate the situation in multiple ways, from trying to justify himself to portraying himself as a victim. But, the officers remained firm in their stance. >> What am I getting arrested for? >> Well, you didn't That's telling me that she didn't want to talk to begin with. >> How am I If I'm asking questions in a in a process of moving away and I'm asking questions, y'all supposed to talk. If y'all say, "Hey, we need to bring you over here to talk." I was already walking that way before y'all grabbed me talking about arresting, you know, what I >> No, no, no, no, they they literally grabbed you. >> And I and I was moving with them, but we tried to put me in handcuffs for what? So, we're talking, but we're going to talk. Where am I going to handcuffs for? You get what my mind said that if we going to talk. No. Ask him. Mr. Bowles, when you first walked up to me, was I loud? Was I rowdy? >> No, but >> But you did was still wrong. No, I'm not and I'm not defending that though. >> I'm just saying what you did is still wrong. >> Yeah, I'm not defending that at all though, but I'm talking about the the part after that. >> Can you Can you listen to this couple for me, please? >> Do you have any more issues? >> Just the right one. >> That's the other issue. >> No, of course >> No, no, no, I told y'all I explained to y'all why I explained I already explained to y'all why I did it. You know what I'm saying? I'm I explained to you I explained to y'all I was not trying to resist anything. >> I will just read I will just read you Miranda, and then if you want to provide us with a statement, you can. >> Are you on probation for? >> Huh? Are you on probation for? >> Oh, just driving. >> Just driving? >> Yes, sir. >> No license? >> No, sir. >> He completely immersed himself in a naive act of pretending innocence, and shortly after the officers explained what consequences he would be facing. >> So, even if I'm even if I'm explaining it to you guys that I was not trying to run away, I'm just trying to ask why am I being arrested? >> you, okay? >> I'm just I didn't know why I didn't know why though. But But I'm trying to look, when I was trying to ask you, you you started yanking on me tighter. And I'm like, what the going to what? Cuz I'm trying to ask a question. I ain't think I had to be under arrest first then ask my question. That's all That's all I'm saying though. That's all I'm saying though. I didn't know that. >> That's where we're at, okay? You're under arrest for resisting without violence, and they passed. Uh you're being trespassed from here. You're both being trespassed from here for 2 years. You cannot come on this property in the next 2 years or you'll be placed under arrest for that for warning. All right? That means the property all the way out to Silver 19. But you can go like to Chili's and stuff like that, but you cannot hang out on this property. It's part of warning. >> Mr. Mr. Manilla, what what you just do to start this up? >> just do it? >> Yeah. >> So, if I'm sitting here explaining to them that I only was trying to ask a question and not trying to resist, then why it can't why we can't have that conversation or that conversation on the table if I'm explaining it to them that that was not my intention. My intention was you got to understand I'm coming out of the store and I'm being I'm being asked to be put in handcuffs. But my question was why? Soon as I asked why, he he wrapped he wrapped me up. I'm not even I'm not even doing nothing. I'm asking a question. He said walk to the My first statement was walk here. I'm on the verge of walking here, he grabbed me talking about you got to get Under his two of us now. On the one person getting grabbed talking about being put under and put in handcuffs. >> Well, we're not going to have >> Two people being trespassed >> They're saying they were that you were detained. >> I didn't I'm saying but I Soon as I Soon as I asked why, it was >> I'm saying you were detained. You resisted at some point. Okay? And we're not going to [laughter] have court in here. >> No, no. Court's not >> They're saying you resisted without violence by trying to pull away or whatever whatever occurred. >> In the end, he was charged with second-degree petty theft and resisting [music] an officer without violence. Small, calculated dishonesty can quickly spiral into serious legal consequences, especially when paired with denial and resistance instead of accountability. Even worse, [music] the woman could not even control her own behavior. >> I have it. What y'all have it? Yeah, nothing. >> You're good. You're good. SHE'S LYING. DON'T TAKE ME. >> YOU'RE NOT GETTING >> ON THE 14TH of May 2024, police received a call from Walmart [music] regarding a woman suspected of shoplifting. At that moment, officers approached her as she pushed a shopping cart out into the parking lot. This is what happened at that time. >> [snorts] >> You got an ID on you? >> No. >> You don't have an ID on you? >> No. >> What's your name? >> Nakia, what I do? >> What's your last name, Nakia? >> I don't What I do? >> Can you spell Nakia for me? >> Okay, well what's the problem? >> Can you spell your name for me? >> Okay, but what's what's the problem? >> We got a call about shoplifting. >> I wasn't stealing. I wasn't on my grandma now. >> Okay. >> If I was stealing I would >> Okay. >> If I was stealing I would have left. >> Okay. Do you have a receipt? >> And that's fine. We'll we'll get to that part as soon as I figure out who you are. Do you have a receipt for the stuff that you meant you purchased? >> The woman stayed silent when asked about the receipt, but she had no intention of cooperating. Her actions only prolonged the situation and prevented police from ending it. >> Okay, I had paid for this. >> All right, you're not being cooperative right now. >> don't know how I'm not. Okay, but >> Put it down. Put it >> Okay, but please don't take my drink. >> STOP. STOP. STOP. >> BUT I HAVEN'T But y'all I haven't did nothing. >> You're good. >> What I didn't do nothing. >> You're good. >> I'm trying to >> Keep it down. >> But I just want to I'm just trying to get my drink. Well, why are y'all >> Let GO OF ME. >> I'M JUST TRYING to get my drink, though. Why are >> We're listening to you. >> Y'all why are y'all trying to I'm just But I'm just trying to get my drink, though. >> from Walmart. >> No, I didn't. I was trying to get my drink. >> detaining you for stealing stuff from Walmart. >> You ain't got to hurt me like that. >> Hey, just just >> Okay, but y'all ain't got to hurt me. I wasn't doing nothing wrong. Stop. OOH. >> ALL RIGHT. ALL RIGHT. DO YOU HAVE ANYTHING ON YOU THAT COULD poke me, stick me, hurt me in any way? Stop. >> detaining me for? >> Because I was called here for shoplifting and you're not able to just walk away without showing us the receipt, so >> I what? You said I what? He got my stuff. >> Shortly after, officers began searching the woman, but nothing went smoothly. Her actions afterward only led to additional charges against her. >> Man, get off I just told you I don't have nothing. >> Well, we got to check. >> Okay, so get OFF MY ARM. MAN, GET OFF ME. I DON'T HAVE NOTHING. >> DON'T KICK ME. >> MAN, I don't got nothing. DAMN. >> PUT YOUR FOOT UP. >> NO, CUZ I DON'T HAVE ANYTHING. Y'all doing all this for no reason. >> Okay, if you take anything into the jail, any contraband, it's an additional charge. >> I don't have anything. Damn, I just told you that. >> You're making this a lot more difficult than it has >> Man, okay, can you let my arm GO? THAT [ __ ] HURT. >> ARE YOU GOING TO RELAX? >> YES. >> OKAY, ALL RIGHT. >> DAMN, you just said I didn't >> I don't want any pressure to you. You just relax. OKAY. >> DAMN. >> STEP BACK. Have a seat. >> Okay. >> Shortly after, officers returned the items to the store for inspection and an employee confirmed that the stolen merchandise turned out to be the clothing the suspect was wearing. >> We can't do a It wasn't her phone the other day. And the pink shirt that she's wearing is ours, too. Here's the tag. Their ID is ours, too. >> Hey, the pink shirt that she's wearing is also the property of that RC. She's not allowed to one. I'm not sure. I guess. I don't know. >> We We have her uh her sweater. >> Yeah. >> Her sweater on. >> The total value of the merchandise was reportedly $145, which was not enough to qualify as a felony. So, she was released shortly afterward. However, officers explained that she would still have to face charges. >> All I need you to do for me is sign right here. It's a citation. It's not an admission of guilt. All you're doing is signing that you received this form. >> They say oil change. >> You have a court date. >> Uh something like that. >> Yeah. >> Your court date is there. March 15th, 2024 at 9:00 a.m. >> Do I keep it? >> Yeah, we we have a copy. >> You'll get a copy. >> I'll be right back with you. It's going to be the yellow copy. I'll be right back. >> I don't have my wallet. >> Are you serious? >> Can you write the court date on there? >> Yeah, I will. >> The woman was charged with shoplifting and obstruction. A simple mistake might still leave room for consequences, but [music] turning the situation chaotic with resistance and defiance only made everything far worse for her in the end. Next, let's move on to this chaos that didn't involve shoplifters, just to change the vibes a little. >> Who is? Is there another sergeant? >> No. >> There's not? >> Can you step out of the vehicle, ma'am? >> Come on. Whoa. >> Come on. >> You're going to arrest us? >> For what? Get on the ground. >> Ow. Ow. Ow. You're hurting >> Get on the ground. Stop resisting. >> On the 13th of October, 2025, police were dispatched to a parking lot after receiving reports of a vehicle parked in a no parking zone with stolen registration tabs attached to plates that had expired in 2021. But behind that, even more suspicious signs remained. Here was what happened when police arrived at the scene. >> Sergeant fourth precinct police, this scene is being audio and video recorded. You know you're parked in a parking zone? >> it's it's a Well, my friend had to go and get food cuz he was over so >> Okay. >> And I live here in the apartments so >> Okay. What What unit do you live in? >> Um >> Okay. You know the tabs on there don't belong to this car either. >> Um no, it was my friend's car so they don't belong to this car. >> Okay. Well, it expired in 2021 and there's tabs that don't belong to >> sure if they don't belong to that. >> You're in the driver's seat. >> I am really cuz I didn't think I had to push it cuz I can >> Okay. But you're in the driver's seat. So you're possessing the car, right? It is your responsibility as a possessor. >> I don't No, cuz it wasn't It's possessor of this car. of the car and I really cuz I couldn't move it. I couldn't push it. >> Okay. >> Sorry, I couldn't push the car cuz it won't move. >> What you got in that box there? >> What box? >> Okay. >> What? >> I said okay. That's a weird response to a box that's sitting right next to you. Can you step out here for me? >> Did I do something wrong? >> Can you put your keys in your pocket? Have a second, please. Can you step out of the car, please? >> Yeah, did I do something wrong? >> You have a lighter in your hands. There's a box there. There's a jar right there. Um consistent with possible drug paraphernalia. You have tabs not belonging to the car. Car's not registered to you. Uh you're associated to a unit. Shh. Drugs are known to come in to and from. >> Faced with the suspicions raised by police, the woman could not deny anything and for refusing to get out of the car, she had a reason for it. >> You're refusing to step out? >> I'm saying what did I do wrong? >> I just listed off of things. And we have a signed trespass agreement here. Okay. >> Yeah, what? >> Signed trespass agreement with the property? >> Yeah, but I live here. >> Okay. >> So, I'm free. I'm waiting for him to come back. >> Okay. I just listed about six reasons why I would like you to step out of the car, and you didn't listen to one of them. >> I did listen to them, but I didn't break any laws by sitting here. >> Okay. You know what carrier reasonable suspicion is? It means it's not quite probable cause, but I have reasons to believe that crime is a foot. >> So, you think I'm committing a crime by sitting here? >> I believe there's possibly drug paraphernalia in this car. Yes. >> And where do you Where Where Where would you believe that? Where? >> I'm not I'm not going to do this. Are you willing to step out or not? >> I'm asking where would I Where >> I've asked you to step out about five times. >> don't I have a I smoke cigarettes. I'm allowed to have a lighter. >> Okay. >> I'm allowed to have a lighter, right? I'm over 21. >> Sure. >> And I'm allowed to smoke cigarettes, right? >> Sure. >> So, why wouldn't I have a lighter? >> Okay. >> Right. I didn't do anything. I'm waiting for him to come back. The car is overheating. I'm waiting for him to come back. Only he can push it. So. >> Okay, well this car is not going anywhere. >> I'm here to push it. >> Okay. Well, it has tabs not belonging to me. Step out of the car, please. This is number six time I've asked you. Okay. >> What does that mean? >> to exit the car. Exit the car. Exit the car. >> Okay, he's telling me to exit the >> the car. >> Okay. >> The tabs on here don't belong to this car. >> No, because it Hold on. This >> Exit or you need to step out or I'll pull you out. You need to step out. >> Hold on. I'm not >> No, you need to do what I'm saying. Step out. >> Okay, don't Don't >> won't if you step out. >> Okay, don't touch me, please. >> It could be said that beyond six orders for the woman to get out of the car, police had also explained their suspicions many times, but she paid no attention and kept acting innocent to make things harder for officers. >> Baby, what did I do wrong? >> I've already explained it all. >> What did you explain to me? I'm trying to get my shoe. Obviously, it's a foot. >> Okay. >> What did I do by sitting here? He's not telling me what I did, and he just put your hands on me." Is there a sergeant? >> Yeah, he's a sergeant. >> Who is? He is there another sergeant? >> No. >> There's not? >> Will you step out of the vehicle, ma'am? Listen, if you just complied, everything would be good. We would have talked to you. >> I'm pushing my shoe forward so I can grab my Put my shoe on. Ow. >> Okay. >> My shoe. >> How about this? If you step out, I will grab your shoe, okay? >> I got I got it. >> You got it? Okay, step out. Come on. >> Don't pull on me. >> I'm I'm trying to get you out of the car nicely, but you're not doing it. >> But you're not giving me a reason. >> Okay, listen. If you don't step out, you're going to be under arrest for obstructing. Step out now. >> Okay, obstructing of what? >> Of us. You need to do what we're telling you to do. >> What do I What am I obstructing you from? >> Cuz you're not stepping out of the car. You're not obeying a lawful command. Step out of the vehicle. >> I didn't do anything, though. >> Come on. Come on. >> Woah. >> What the woman was doing was simply stalling the situation, but things did not go the way she wanted, and police moved in without hesitation. >> Come on. Put your hands behind your back. >> For what? >> Get on the ground. >> Ow. Ow. Ow. For what? >> Get on the ground. Get on the ground. >> For what? Get on the ground. >> Face down on the ground. Okay, now you're under arrest. >> For what? I'm under arrest for what? >> Obstructing. I gave you a warning. >> Ow. You did not give me a warning. A warning about what? What did I do? I didn't do anything. I'm sitting in the car. I live here. >> Okay, that's fine. >> I live here. I live here. >> Stop. >> I live >> Stop resisting. You're going to get a new charge. >> For what? You're saying I did something I didn't I didn't do anything. This is illegal as This is illegal. >> We have one in custody. And can you start a separate 60 for use of force? >> This is illegal as This is so illegal. This is illegal. Ow. This is illegal. >> Okay. >> This is illegal. I'm not doing I didn't do anything. >> All right. >> So why are you sitting there? I live here. >> Listen, ma'am, we would have talked to you, but you >> I live here. >> listen want me now? >> What do you mean? >> Okay, you're under arrest for 113. >> There was nothing illegal here. If you were the suspect in this situation, refusing police orders could get you charged with obstruction, but it seemed the woman did not realize that. >> Okay, I'm under arrest >> arrest for what, though? >> Obstructing. >> Of what? >> You have to listen to the police when we give you a command, okay? I know it's hard. >> Really? I live here. >> Yeah, this has nothing to do with you. >> I live here. >> Stand right here. Okay, does it look like you have any pockets, right? >> I need a girl to search me. >> Okay, we don't have any females working, okay? >> Okay, well, can you get a female? >> You would like me to call one from home? >> Yes, please. >> No, that's not going to happen. >> Okay, I don't give you permission to touch on me. >> Actually, we don't have one readily available. >> I don't give you permission to touch on me. >> Do you have pockets, even? >> I don't give you permission to touch on me, though. >> Ma'am, that's not the way this works. >> That's not how this works, okay? >> Yeah, but he's not a girl. He's not a girl. >> I'm going to lift your shirt to make sure you don't have a pocket. That's all I'm doing. >> I'm going to >> to see if you have a pocket, ma'am. That's it. >> I don't have a pocket. >> Ashley, hey, just focus on me for a second, okay? You should know who I am. I talk to you all the time. Ashley, my partner's trying to do right now, he just needs to make sure that you don't have anything on you that can go into jail with you, okay? >> No, I don't. >> And right after that, the woman realized she could hardly avoid arrest, and she also admitted that she had illegal drugs on her. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> So, listen. >> She's I would like want to work with you on that, okay? >> She's saying she has fentanyl in her bra. Yeah, she has a pipe in her shoe. >> I told you something was in my shoe. I didn't know what it was. There's my shoe. It's not drugs. I didn't know it was in my shoe. All right, that's why I said, "Can we shake my shoe out?" That's why I took my shoe off, and you saw me take my shoe off, cuz I didn't know what was in it. >> So, Ashley, do you have anything else hidden on you cuz we're I believe we're having an officer come and talk to you. >> No, that's fine. No, that's fine. It's on my period. >> We're going to take you for That's what you're worried about? >> Yeah, I will Yeah, I'm on my period. The period. >> Okay. Okay, Ashley, while we're waiting, I read you your rights. You said you understood them. Is that correct? Do you want me to reread them before I ask you more questions? >> Um I No, it doesn't matter now. What am I in trouble for? >> You're under arrest for obstruction and now possession of controlled substance. Uh and you also have a warrant out of Olympia. >> Olympia? >> For assault. >> For what? >> Assault. >> Assault? >> [snorts] >> But I was unaware of that. >> In the end, she was charged with obstructing a law enforcement officer and drug possession with intent to deliver. Actions have consequences and refusing lawful orders while hiding the truth can quickly turn suspicion into serious criminal charges.
