Crybaby doesn't take accountability. I'll take accountability for things I've done, but like not for things I haven't done. Sorry. >> You know, only great people can break his national laws. Only great people CAN BE CRIMINALS. HELP. HELP. THE POLICE ARE BEING HORRIBLE. SO WHY IS MY JOB TO FIGHT US? WE ARE YOUR FAMILY. YOU >> Every year, Walmart loses around $3 billion [music] to shoplifting. These thefts lead to higher prices and stricter security. Yet, shameless thieves continue treating the store like a place for free shopping without fearing the consequences. There are the moments when women think her Walmart theft went smoothly. Before we begin, hit the like button and subscribe to This is Law so you never miss our latest [music] police encounters and courtroom stories. First, meet this arrogant woman. Even though this wasn't her first time, >> there were a time that I've had issues with them that by the end of it, they were like, "Oh, my bad." scan that six times instead of scanning all of these. That's >> 1497. >> On November 2nd, officers responded to a Walmart after store employees reported they had detained a woman for shoplifting. She had two carts full of merchandise and none of it had been paid for. Here's what happened when police arrived at the scene. >> What's wrong with your face? >> So, >> okay. So far, this and what's inside is all that's been paid for. >> Okay. So, she's paid for this, you okay? >> Yeah, that's for t-shirts and stuff. Then I'm fig what's what's on this receipt? But >> okay, so this is her >> for the t-shirts right here. And then I got the sunglasses right here on this one. >> Okay. So, there t-shirts and that, but this hasn't been paid for. No. Okay. The woman sitting in the office, constantly tilting her head to listen in on the conversation, was the suspect in the case. Hiding her identity behind a face mask, she immediately began denying any wrongdoing. >> Hello, ma'am. How are you? Um, just want to find out, you know, uh, what's going on, why why am I here today? >> I don't know, honestly. Like, I'm watching pulling things out. I did not that I took out sat on the counter and left and then I was like in a cart and this is like third or fourth time that I've had issues with them that by the end of it they were like oh my bad so >> okay well first of all what's your name >> Tiffany >> Tiffany I'm I'm officer Fields I'm with Roswell Police Department officer Curry okay um okay so explain to me what's going on so you came to Walmart what were you doing What did you come for? >> Went for clothing for my brother's friend and my boyfriend. >> Okay. So, you came for some winter clothing. >> Notice there's a lot of shades in there. Um, >> they were $150. They're all on the receipt. >> Okay. And then, um, so talk to me about the shelving cuz that was not on the receipt. >> I have receipt and I'm telling you there's seven things hanging up. >> Okay. Like, >> so why do they think you stole it? >> Yeah. >> I don't know. They have in there or something. >> Okay. >> Like genuinely I >> Well, you know, they have real people out here that genuinely walk in here taking weed. >> What are they Why are they telling us you stole this stuff today? >> Mhm. >> I guess this is what they feel. >> Yeah. >> But I didn't even walk out the door, so it's like they stopped you right here. She tried to make it sound as if the store was deliberately targeting her, but the store employees later confirmed that she had a history of similar behavior. This is like the third or fourth time we caught her doing this. Today just happened to actually first time she tried to walk out with over $700 worth of stuff that they prevented her and she walked out to the side just abandoned everything. Then another time like a week ago where >> I want to understand if I would if there's video and I look at video am I going to see you take anything >> or do anything wrong I go about business I take things out like the last two times you did this I was like went inside and No issues. >> Okay. Um >> that is not the case. >> Okay. >> It's okay. So um have has there been any reports filed on this before for you? There's been no >> Can I see your phone bills? >> They are duplicates of what they have >> because you know we should all have the same thing. >> Okay. uh >> when you use Walmart pay. >> So you're saying a dup this is a duplicate of this >> cuz the tubs are different >> that I have >> the tubs are different on here. >> He has two different >> um I have seven shells. >> Okay. >> Um so how long roughly have you been on today? two two hours. >> So, I know 90% of what the woman claimed she had used Walmart's scan and go feature on her phone to pay, but that the system had malfunctioned. However, after four or five similar incidents, her explanation was becoming increasingly difficult to believe. >> I know y'all don't know, but like scan and go, right? You scan it, you go have people check it, go about your business, takes it off your card, right? >> Mhm. >> Once you have an issue or whatever, you transfer to the register. >> Transfer. >> Sometimes it doesn't all transfer through correctly. >> Okay. So, >> sometimes it does and it's like I've been like actually like have like spoken with them about it. >> Mhm. So, like >> you seem like you don't know if they're going to find something or not. They should not. But like I'm saying is that standing go this is the problem that I had before was that >> machine did something. It didn't have everything on there. >> Okay. >> So I went around and paid for it because it was intentional to be paid for. You know I scanned it on the phone. He said and he was like, "Oh yeah, I watched you scan." And I was like, "Okay, great." >> Was it like uh you're at the self-s serve lane? >> No, but you do it all on like your phone. >> Okay. I don't No, I don't I don't >> Is it like an app like the Walmart app or something? >> All right, show me >> something or whatever and you go uh see >> in this. >> Okay, so we have all the images. So, can you >> scan and go? >> She placed all the blame on Walmart's system, but what she didn't know was that the loss prevention team inspecting the merchandise outside had already uncovered another trick she had allegedly used. Ticket switching. six. You probably scanned them >> the short ones for all of these together. It's called ticket switching when you scan the cheaper items. So, >> you scan that six times instead of scanning all of these. How many are these? That's >> 14.97. >> That's uh >> these are 6416. >> That's this one right here. So, so you guys are just verifying to see what she has paid for, what she has not, and then we'll get the training receipt. >> Yeah. >> Okay. Now, is everything ring up correctly? Do you double ring something for something else? That kind of thing? Like you can take the small shelves as a cheaper price and use that for the big shelves for the higher price. >> I think all the shelves are supposed to be the same. >> You think they are or do you know >> when you have to have what does it say there? >> Well, I didn't. >> I'm just saying for instance, >> um no, they were all supposed to be four tiered plastic shelves, you know. So, >> yeah. >> Okay. Assume they should have all been the same. >> So, looking like the two little shoulder units that you get right there. The receipt say she bought six of them for about 90 bucks in total. But in reality, she only got two of them. Use those for the price and and then she had the bigger price. U she scanned these. So these are like 15 bucks a pop and those are like >> After correcting the switched prices, the unpaid merchandise totaled $920. Police returned to confront her one more time, but she still showed no intention of telling the truth. >> All right. How I mean, so how can I if you paid for it? They see all that stuff you went through. They had your receipts, your two receipts, right? You only had two, right? >> Right. >> They went through all that stuff and took out what you paid for. >> Okay. >> And then this is what was left over. So >> prior to this, when I was walking out the door, I was in a line with an employee and she scanned the stuff in. So, you're saying she scanned all this? >> Yep. So, then as I'm going to pay for it, something on their end, nothing to do with me. >> It suspended it. >> Yep. >> So, we redo it again. And she's like, "Okay, it's not going to go." >> And tosses me over there. And >> when they suspended it, why did you instead of leaving it, why did you leave? I mean, why did you take it with you? >> I was intending to get it. My total was not that much for certainly not that much. It doesn't make sense. Not even on like some crybaby doesn't take accountability. I'll take accountability for things I've done, but like not for things I haven't done. >> All right. Well, here's what's going to happen. Okay. You have to come with us. >> Because they're pressing charges against you. Okay. They're placing you under arrest. Is that correct? >> Yes, sir. >> They're placing you under arrest for shoplifting. If you're claiming you paid for all this, you'll have your receipts. You'll go to court and you'll you'll you'll discover in court. Okay. They'll be there in court with you along with us. Tiffany was charged with felony shoplifting after police determined the unpaid merchandise totaled approximately $920, exceeding Georgia's felony threshold. Remaining calm and cooperative may help, but it cannot overcome strong physical evidence. Once investigators independently verify the facts, [music] false explanations only become part of the case against you. Worse yet, this woman believed that [music] only great people break the law. >> Only great people can be criminals. Subscribe food stay >> only great people >> less than like 500 boxes. >> Oh, you know we're Cook County, but you're from Russia. >> On the 6th of March 2026, officers stopped a woman after she tried to leave the store following her shoplifting attempt. What seemed like a simple theft case quickly became far more complicated because of her attitude. Here's what happened next. >> Can I talk to you for a minute? >> Okay. >> We want to be done with this as soon as possible, but we want to let you go as soon as possible. >> Okay, I'm done. >> If you really need an ambulance, the ambulance. >> Okay. Okay. She wants ambulance for hemorrhage. >> I need a hammer and I have cut problems when I start having cut like both up. >> Oh, you got the receipt. >> Yeah. So, okay. Oh, it was concealed in this bag, but this bag kind of hurt when we're getting the receipt. So, I'm just showing you concealed in this bag. She walked out the bag when we approached her. This is her bag there. I believe there's medication with her name possibly in it. There's also some other >> good. You want to get that? >> Yeah. >> All right. Huh? >> And Chanel. >> That's Chanel's luxury, right? >> You got this bag yourself, but I have to leave the country. >> Because if not, that's not good for you. >> Speak Spanish. Well, >> now you're speaking Portuguese. rules. >> That's pretty good. >> I have no children. I have nothing. >> The woman constantly switched between Spanish and Portuguese, using every tactic she could to make the situation more difficult. She then claimed to be Russian, only making the encounter even more tense. >> But it's no problem. I'm Russian. >> Wa wa wait. I'm from Russia. It's all English. >> You don't know what you're talking Russian women see as it's not like it's not a Chinese or American or Chinese Mexican >> Russian women beat. My mom went to house then we had in 1946 we came st 20 million. >> Mhm. >> You know what she said? Just kid people. Would you like to sit on the on the bench right there? >> Which bench? >> There's a bench right there. That way you're not in the cold. You can sit down. >> I actually both good for you because I have my problem right now. Okay. Okay. >> But I will sit like this. It's better because >> some ambulance is coming. Yes, sir. >> I'll call my criminal lawyer so he knows what's going on because he's worried about this. >> Do you want to go to the hospital? >> What's that? >> Okay. Soon after, EMS arrived at the scene. With her request granted, the woman became more comfortable and repeatedly asserted what she believed were her rights. >> So, we can't do any water before we get to the hospital. Okay. >> Listen, no needles. Okay. >> There's no needles. There's a light. >> I'm kind of up. I'm really scared of the needles. >> Yeah, there's no needles. >> Use the whole >> We're firefighters. >> Wow. >> You guys are great. You know, only great people can break smash the laws. Only great people can be criminals. It's crime and punishment of the sty. >> Only great people. >> Yeah. He said only great people can smash the laws. >> Only great people are not afraid to be criminals. >> Who said that? >> Crime and punishment. The key is the greatest uh uh greatest psychologist of the of the world. >> I think crime and punishment is a work of fiction too as part of the issue. >> No, it's not fiction. It's real life. The lady was giving he was she had like p shop and he was studying at St. Petersburg. He had no money. So he was always bringing her gold, but she would always give him little money. So then he took a habit just >> Well, that's probably part of the book we don't want to emulate here. Could you spell your your first and your last name for me? >> Yeah. Yeah. My name is um I can write it down maybe. >> Uh that might be a little hard with the handcuffs. It's easier if you spell it out. >> I don't know. Maybe >> you don't want to tell me your name. >> I know. It's difficult for me because I think you better know it because I'm already arrested you. So I'm >> She repeatedly tried to justify her actions, but when asked for her identity, she fell silent. Instead, she launched into elaborate arguments defending her decision to remain silent. >> You know, he said you have to be very talented to keep silent. The same black wrote crime and punishment. >> Did he? He says it takes a lot of talent to stay silent. >> He says you have to be very talented to keep silent. >> Very talented to keep silent. >> And he says there is nothing easier than than flatter. And the most easiest is the most difficult is to say the hot That makes sense. >> Yeah. >> I talked to my criminal lawyer. >> Oh, when when did you do that? I didn't see you call anybody. >> I mean, before I do some crimes, I talk to to the criminal lawyers. I ask about >> Damn. >> Lawyers are expensive, too. >> Okay. But that's the only way for you to to be. How can you talk to cops without lawyers? Real quick though again before my partner does it who is in charge. >> If you don't give us your name you're going to spend more time with us and that's going to be another charge. >> But just hear me out. If you don't give us your name that's going to be another charge for you. >> Okay. >> Okay. It's called obstruction identification. >> So I can't keep can't keep silent because you said I have >> No. Because if you don't if if you don't give us your name that's a charge obstruction identification cuz you're under arrest. I'm telling you right now >> you keep interrupting me. If you don't give us your name >> Mhm. That's a charge for obstruction of identification because you are under arrest. All right. So, if you choose not to do it in the next like 5 minutes, >> we're going to give you that charge. >> Okay. Can I talk to the criminal lawyer? So, he talks to you. He >> We're not talking to your lawyer. We're talking to you. >> You defender is my criminal lawyer. I'm not I'm not talking police myself because it's not my name. I don't >> Those are two separate things. You have to provide us your name, date of birth, and address. >> Can Can I record what you're saying? >> We're on body cam. Perfect. So why why does it say that I have >> you we will read through your Miranda rightites and it before we ask you any questions about what happened and you don't have to talk to us but you do have to provide us your name and birthday [laughter] >> I don't smile what you guys do you don't ask me >> she verbally lashed out at the officers whenever things didn't go her way showing no remorse or shame she continued chatting comfortably as if she were simply exercising her rights >> they would just give you money for your smile >> [laughter] >> Wow. You're you are you Jewish? >> No, I'm not. >> Less than like 500 bucks. >> Oh, you know we're Cook County, but you're from Russia. >> Of course. I'm not I'm not in India. I understand. When I get hotels, I understand which county, right? I speak five languages. I mean, I'm studying like >> [laughter] >> I'm like a cyclopedia. My boyfriend say I work I work in the past. I have the microphone. I work in the hermit. It's the biggest museum in the world. It has millions objects of so it's like we have 1,000. I have microphone and I walk and I talk. And when I stop talking, they say that's it. They call cops. They say that they interpret their left. My job is to talk. >> So I understand it's difficult to listen to. >> I didn't say anything. >> Did you leave your boyfriend in Russia? Is he in Chicago, too? >> The woman was charged with theft. Remaining calm and cooperating with officers can help prevent a bad situation from becoming even worse. >> [music] >> Knowing your rights does not excuse criminal behavior or exempt you from providing legally required identifying information after an arrest. Next, this woman tried to justify her shoplifting as if she could fool everyone. >> It's not a passenger. [music] >> You just didn't have a passenger. >> Yeah. About paying for it shoplifting. >> No shoplifting. >> That's what I'm saying. like this. Oh, it's doing this. I'm saying I can't. >> On the 19th of November 2024, officers made contact with a woman inside a Kohl's store after she was suspected of concealing over $600 worth of merchandise. Strangely, she admitted to doing so, but immediately tried to justify her actions. >> Hey, miss. >> Hi, Mr. Shim. >> Hi. >> So, you know, I can't record. All right. Okay. >> All right. >> So, we got a report. >> Huh? >> We got a report here that you're concealing merchandise. You did? >> Yes. >> Okay. But I'm paying for it. >> I just didn't have a basket. >> You just didn't have a basket? >> Yeah, but I'm paying for it. >> And I didn't It's not technically stealing it, but I didn't leave out the store. >> I didn't leave out the store, but I I dropped everything that I had. He's also got stuff that's mine also. >> Okay. So, right now, this is mine. >> Just take a breath. >> Okay. So, this is also mine. But here, I would take out the sh You want me? Just keep your hand out of your bag for Sunday until >> I'm not about to get locked up. Hopefully that's not happening. >> No one said anything about lock up. >> I know, but I'm just investigating at this point in time. >> Okay. But I didn't even leave out just you guys store. That's what I'm saying. I didn't even leave out your guys store and I'm paying for some stuff as well. >> LP. >> So, let me give you y'all stuff. >> Okay. Like I said, just just relax. You don't need to pull anything out of your bag >> cuz I also came in here si with some stuff. I still got some in in my car as well. That's what I'm saying. >> Although she insisted that her actions were unintentional, her anxious and fearful demeanor suggested otherwise. Even so, she continued trying to remain calm as she returned the merchandise. >> I'm sorry. What's your name? >> What's that? >> Pencil. >> I'm sorry. What? >> Pil >> like this. >> Okay. >> No, I don't even want to buy nothing, but I'm going to show you. I'mma show you of me home with the stuff. >> Okay. Let's take a breath. I was going to >> Pil did you have Do you have an ID on you? >> Yes, but I was going to um >> Okay, I just swap it. I just need your ID. Swap it. I was going to exchange it. >> Exchange it. >> Okay. Do you have ID on you? >> Yes, I do. >> Can I just see it? >> I was going to exchange it. Mom, my on the phone as well. >> I was going to exchange it. >> I'm about to go to [ __ ] jail for this [ __ ] Hell no. >> And I think that was it. Yeah. Can you just Can you just give me the full >> I'm trying to [music] as much as possible. So without it's 171 121 >> 171 >> 121 >> 121 >> Based on her reaction it was clear she was no stranger to dealing with law enforcement and the officers quickly began to suspect the same. >> Have you ever been arrested before? >> Yes. >> Yeah. >> I'm asking I just want to know I got to pay this not to be rude. This is my bar. I really don't see that right now. >> Just waiting for this. Let's see. Um, where's the nearest the restaurant? >> I don't want to go. I don't want to I don't want nothing to do. >> Okay. Well, unfortunately, right now, you're not free to leave cuz you're still being detained investigate. So, just want you to know I'm giving you the opportunity to use those if you need to. >> You do not want to. So, I'm just going to get the uh back. The officers then handcuffed the woman and escorted her to the patrol car. Shortly afterward, they discovered she had an outstanding warrant for a separate shoplifting case and confronted her about it. >> Do you know of any warrant in Ramsey? Do you know what this is about at all? Cuz I honestly don't know. >> I think it's [ __ ] shoplifting. Old >> for shoplifting. Old shoplifting. >> Old shoplifting. That's what I'm saying. Like is it's really I'm saying it can't Oh [ __ ] >> If you keep missing your court date and keep missing your court date, >> I never got a letter for the court date. >> So look, once uh once we get back to our headquarters, we just need to process you. Mhm. >> We got to take some uh some photographs and some prints >> and then we just paper and then once I'm going to get the warrant information, I'll give it to you. Okay. So you you understand what's going on. >> So basically you want to warrant. >> Yeah. >> So I'm going to put for the warrant. Mhm. So, >> so look, like I said, we're we're trying to be really cooper like we're we're doing our best to make this as as simple and smooth as possible. >> Can I get that? So, I'm going to court for >> I'm going to court for the warrant. >> Yes. And then you'll get a separate court date for the shoplifting for today. Okay. >> What? >> Yeah. So, technically, you did conceal three items. Okay. Those three perfumes. Okay. >> So, the What the What are you talking about? They got the perfumes. What are you talking about? >> I understand that. >> In the end, the woman was charged with shoplifting and arrested on an outstanding warrant for a separate shoplifting case. A guilty conscience often leads people to make excuses instead of accepting responsibility. [music] Taking accountability for mistakes is always a better path than trying to justify dishonest [music] actions. Next, let's switch things up with this theft case, but this time it's a car theft. under arrest. >> Being detained coming out of the vehicle. >> On the 1st of February 2024, police received information that a Renault that had previously been reported stolen had returned to the Whiteall area. A police helicopter was also deployed to assist in tracking the vehicle. This is what happened as officers attempted to approach the stolen car. >> We're a minute out. We do not have a target in sight. Do not have a target in sight. Okay, let's get Chopper. Chopper, we're going to start rolling right now. Let's start moving right now. I'm going to get the front. Rolling up. Go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go. >> All right, they're backing up, but they're getting a fence. They're going to be boxes. >> HANDS UP. HANDS UP. YOU'RE GOING TO GET SHOT. YOU'RE GOING TO GET SHOT NOW. MOVE. WE'RE GOING TO GET SHOT. WE'RE GOING TO GET SHOT. Police officers quickly surrounded the vehicle, leaving the suspects with no chance to escape. In fact, there was more than one person inside the car, and the passengers also attempted to flee, creating a scene of complete chaos. >> We got a passenger trying to jump over the fence. >> Get out. GET ON THE GROUND. PUT YOUR HANDS BEHIND YOUR BACK. UNDER ARREST. >> Coming out of the VEHICLE BACK WHINING, you're not pulling off. >> WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU? >> RIGHT HERE. Everybody have any joints on >> anytime guys. Great job. >> I can't fit in there. Don't yell at me. Right. >> No, I'm saying sorry. I can't fit in there. When you first pulled up though, I couldn't fit in there. Then you pulled up. That gives me a little room. I can try. >> This is our guy. Gates. This is Gates. >> You got him. >> Hey, that's that's Gates. >> Gates was identified as the suspect responsible for stealing the vehicle. Meanwhile, one of the passengers tried to deny any involvement in the incident despite having just failed in his attempt to flee from the police. >> Give me a minute. Let me get everything. >> You're in a stolen car. Okay. You guys are trying to run. >> You're going to get ripped out of the car >> behind me, right? >> I don't care right now. Kick your foot in here. I will talk to you in about 5 seconds. Let me get my stuff together and then I'll come and talk to you. Stop rushing. >> I'm just >> Gates. How much drugs did you take? >> Unbelievable. >> 83. >> Unbelievable. >> Hi. Stop that. Okay. >> What? >> No, but he's acting like he's OD and I can't tell if he's faking or not. >> I have one rear tag. He's right side damage. >> Hey, 110. Should I stay with him in case he gets worse? >> I'm okay. >> I'm okay. >> Shortly afterward, the suspects were taken to the police station for separate interviews. The passenger was questioned first, and he remained completely calm as he continued to insist on his innocence. >> All right. What can you tell me about the car? >> Absolutely nothing. Don't lie. I wish I knew it would never win. >> Do you use or have you used alcohol? >> Yes. >> Okay. What do you do? >> I don't like cigarettes at all. especially not regular. >> When's the last time that you used any hardcore like so? >> It's been within the last 24 hours. >> What did you take? >> Everything. >> Yeah. Have you ever been treated for alcohol abuse? >> Yes. Um when I was in prison between 2015 16 17. >> Who do you know in the car? >> Tyler not very well. I met him at work. I don't know the other guy though. >> Okay. So, he How how did today transpire? Like, how did you end up in the vehicle? >> He just called me on Facebook and was like, "Hey, I saw how you been, bro." I'm like, "I'm at home watching Netflix." That's why I had the remote in my pocket. >> Mhm. >> So, he's like, "Uh, you trying to uh" He asked me what I was doing today. I said, "Nothing much. Just hanging out in the house." He said, "Uh, you want to step out the house?" I said, "Sure. Where we going?" uh just to a friend and grab I think some marijuana. Not even going to lie to you. And that's where we went. >> It soon became clear that the case also involved illegal drug possession. The driver's condition only raised more suspicion as his behavior suggested he might have been under the influence of drugs at the time of the arrest. >> Um who are those guys with you? >> Buddies of mine. >> Buddies of yours. Where do you live right now? >> I'm homeless. >> Homeless? >> Yes. Um, I saw on your ID that you had a Brier Brier. >> I used to live there. >> Okay. Um, how long ago was that? >> In last month. >> Uh, so we found some uh powder in uh in some aluminum foil in your wallet. What is that? Is that some of the stuff? >> I don't want to answer that. >> Okay. >> Then we uh left the spot and he's like, "Uh, let me pull over real quick, make a call. That's what you guys pulled up. >> I actually was thinking like cuz he never had a vehicle. I'm thinking in my head it's a nice vehicle for someone like never had a vehicle from know about five six month. >> So, but it's not really cool to say where you get this car to a grown. I don't know if you know that perspective, the point of view, but it's like kind of little little disrespectful to be like, "Wait, where you get the car from? How you get the money? or not to another grown black man, he probably see it as like uh you know, you know, think I can do things for myself or something like that. You know what I mean? >> You had a friend that had a uh silver 2010 Kiaforte. I know that her mom's name is Gina. Uh she got uh you and your friend were up in Westerville and she got arrested on a warrant out of a traffic stop thing. >> In addition, the officers confronted them about the driver's previous attempts to flee from the police. It was clear that this was not the first time he had done so. The passenger also gave a statement that indirectly shed light on the driver's state of mind at that time. >> Did any when we pulled up and started blocking the car, what were you telling him? >> Stop. Just chill. Hold on. Stop. Chill. Like he's like, "No, I'm like at that point I'm think that's why I was trying to I was just praying to God that you guys don't kill me when I got out the car. But I had no other choice. It's either he run into some and we all die or get seriously hurt. >> Yeah. >> Or it's just I just tried my luck >> and and Tyler was just telling you no. >> Yeah. He was just No. >> You really You just linked up with Tyler so that you guys can chill for a little bit. Smoke some >> little bit. Mostly >> smoke some weed. And then >> that's it. Head back home. >> So what do you want to talk? Do you want to talk to me about anything? What do you want to talk about? We know that's all your clothes stuffed in the back. We know that you were supposed to meet up with the staff today to have a move out. We know that you've been on a little bit of a bender and stealing a lot of cars and running from the police a lot. Why do you do it? You've done it three times now in a week. You're still hanging out with your crib friends. Was that only when you were in jail? >> But I don't gang bang. I'm >> You hang out with Duffel bag and >> I don't know. >> He's listed as an alias of yours in prison. >> I don't do that. You're just kind of cripping to stay alive in jail kind of thing. The whole blue devil thing is not that heavy. >> I mean cripping was a I mean it started off as just you know love for my brothers in my neighborhood. I didn't have my family wasn't my mom got married and uh so I didn't really feel love at home and I just felt love in the neighborhood from for my for my homies. Is this I mean that's just Have you seen any similar anything similar to this where somebody might and something like this happened and >> all the time man >> make you do some dumb >> seen any success stories >> quite a few >> years later >> takes time >> the suspect was charged with failure to comply with the order of a police officer receiving stolen property and possession of a schedule one or two controlled substance repeatedly fleeing police and surrounding yourself with crime only leads to more serious consequences. Taking responsibility and breaking destructive habits is the only path toward a better future. Before the next suspect, here's one more look at the chaos caused by this woman at the liquor store. >> You know, and everything I will not you know this, you know. On the 8th of April 2024, police were dispatched to a liquor store after receiving reports of a disorderly woman causing a disturbance. She was reportedly intoxicated and refused to leave the property. Here's what happened next. >> Honestly, I I I don't feel comfortable until I'm told I can put my arms up. >> Put your arms on. >> Are you sure? >> Yeah. What are you doing? >> I want to test. We'll be in there in a second, man. What are you doing? >> He was doing a lot of drugs. >> Other people were doing other things. >> Who? >> And him and other people. Okay. >> I've been trying to save my my fellow employees. >> Do you work here at the Jiffy Mart? >> I work at the um at uh Beesb. >> Okay. So, >> so the late night employee handle of whoever you can't. >> So, so what's going on in the store today? explanation. >> I am I don't feel comfortable putting an explanation out because for Vbacks and everything else. >> I don't care about bebacks. What's going on in the store in this Jiffy Mart? >> It wasn't here. It was It was outside the store. >> All right. So, what's going on outside the store? >> This was a chase to the store. >> Call somebody to come pick you up. >> What family? >> I don't care. >> He said somebody family. >> Somebody. >> You can't be here. Okay. >> I don't give a [ __ ] who it is. Just call somebody. You're not. >> Huh? someone us cuz you guys are my family. >> When I call someone a phone, >> where's your phone at? >> Your phone? >> If I had one. >> The woman's unstable condition became immediately apparent. Even moments later, she began rapidly shifting between emotions, speaking in a confused and disorganized manner. >> Never mind. I don't I just hope my daughter's okay. Can I at least call for my dog? >> Can I Can I please call for my dog? >> Yeah. Where's your phone at? >> Check your pockets. The phone. >> You have a phone in your pockets. >> You know, TJ, >> yeah, you don't. >> Who can come pick you up? I want answers to the people that want to process. >> What are you even saying? Who can come pick you up? >> I'm trying to get you to somewhere safe. >> No, you're not. >> Do you have a bacon? >> Do you have anyone that can come help you? >> He doesn't want you or him to answer. >> Believe me, we don't want to be here anymore than you don't want us to be here. >> So, who called you Jack? >> Who can come pick you up? >> So, who denied him to come? >> Yeah. phone in your pocket. >> Are you celebrating the eclipse? >> The solar eclipse today? It's a big deal. >> You guys deciding this because I'm a wicked. >> Huh? No. No. There's an eclipse today. >> I don't care. >> We're not mind readers. We don't know that. >> No. I I hate that this is the biggest day that y'all had the worst. >> All we want to do is get you home or get you to somewhere safe. >> Well, >> I don't care. It doesn't matter to me. >> Do you have somebody come pick you up? >> No answer. She paid no attention to the officer's repeated suggestions to call a family member or someone she knew to pick her up. Instead, the officers changed their approach, encouraging her to stand up and leave the area so she would no longer disturb the liquor store. >> Let's practice walking. Can you stand up and walk this way? See how you >> I got hit by a motorcycle the other day. Can I at least get a step to stand up? >> Sure. >> I don't care how, but can I get a step to stand up? >> Yeah. Do you mean to help you up or you >> I don't want them to laugh how >> it's not about you. >> You remember the [laughter] bed is >> walk that way. >> How? >> Just walk straight. >> Put one foot in front of the other. I >> just want to see you walk. You don't have to do anything special. >> So, where can we get you to? Can we give you a courtesy ride somewhere safe? Uh, I'm sorry. Who did he say something? >> We asking you about your >> But you also stopped. So, >> can we get you somewhere safe? Can we give you a surprise? >> Video, but hold on. So, I mean, y'all want to try this? >> You want to sit back down? I want you to fall over. >> What? So, I want you to calm down. >> No, I want you to sit down so you don't fall over. Not calm down. >> It was clear that she could barely stand. and it certainly wasn't safe for her to leave on her own. Despite that, she tried to walk away anyway, forcing the officers to stop her. What happened next quickly descended into chaos. >> You need to relax. You need to stay still. Have a seat. >> I didn't do anything. >> Come on. Just don't don't make it worse. We're trying to get you some help before we have to take it to the hospital. Okay. Come have a seat. Come have a seat. We're going to figure it out. >> Come on down. >> Come on. You wonder why handcuffs on you and then we're going to help you back up once the handcuffs are kill. [screaming] THEY'RE BEHIND ME. [screaming] HELP! PLEASE HELP. PLEASE HELP. PLEASE [screaming] HELP. She immediately portrayed herself as the victim. But what was even more striking was that her anger seemed directed entirely at the officers, as though she resented them simply for showing up. >> That's not nice. >> Neither were you, [ __ ] >> You better relax. >> Nothing. >> Nothing. >> Battery. I got it. >> Yeah. >> And hey, you I know you don't agree with us. >> No, I see you. >> I see you. >> I know you agree with us. >> What are you doing? >> You What are you doing? >> What are you doing? >> What are you doing? Okay. >> I know you don't because you want to talk about the family after. >> You're going to lose. >> Yeah. You're not going to You're not going to be a stepdaddy after. Mom or me? I'm done. I'm done. >> It's not wrapped around it. >> No, I'ming done. >> Get my gloves on. [ __ ] I'll help you. Let go of it. >> Let's ask Uncle Owen how this goes. How do we go home for him that has to kill us? Right. >> The the drug addict. >> Yes, I know you. Okay, get back. >> Her behavior only made the situation worse, forcing the officers to use a higher level of force to restrain her. Yet, she showed no awareness of how serious the situation had become. >> No, he laugh. That's where >> that's where they can you do it. >> I wonder what daddy's going to say after mom's going to stay in the grave. >> Yeah. When what Gwyn's going to say in the grave? Daddy. >> Yeah. Daddy. >> What's today's date? Just >> cuz you let me know what it is. >> What year is it? >> You rolled your eyes all over the answer. Who had that on camera? >> All of them. Do you want to go to the hospital? >> Why? Well, they're saying you're not acting correctly. So, we just want to make sure that you don't need medical attention. >> I have to ask you questions. >> Grace Rider mying answers. >> So, once we get her in here, meaning you'll pick her up. >> Oh, yeah. I love when my porn star rookies get that on [ __ ] camera. >> Hope you know I I I do get this on camera. >> Where do you live at? >> You also already know. >> I'm a farman. I don't know where you live. >> Too bad you stuck at your job. She was charged with battery on a law enforcement officer or firefighter and resisting [music] an officer with violence. Losing control of your emotions and responding with violence toward law enforcement [music] will only escalate the situation and lead to far more serious criminal charges. Staying calm and cooperating is always the better path, even during a stressful encounter. Worse still, what began as a simple shoplifting case ended with a woman being slapped with a $125,000 bond. >> Why you grabbing me? You have a warrant for arrest. >> No, I don't. >> You got a warrant. Don't do this. >> Why do I have a warrant? >> Get off of me. >> Don't kick me. >> On the 28th of January, 2024, police received a call from a Kroger store reporting that a woman had placed merchandise into a bag and left without paying. Officers soon located and approached her, and she already seemed to have an excuse prepared for her actions. >> What happened? What do I mean? I got cold on you. >> Huh? >> I got cold on you from Kroger. >> Oh, I had the tissue underneath. >> Then uh I I had a a paper towel >> and I put it on the top and then I forgot and I woke back. I said, "Oh, I forgot how much it then I had the tissue underneath." >> Uh-huh. >> And I gave it back. >> Okay. That's not their version of it. >> What's their version? I was only in there for 5 minutes. >> Okay. Do you have a receipt for all the stuff? >> What stuff? >> Did you take anything from Kroger? I think I had this. Yeah. Juice. I've been had this. >> You what? >> I didn't have this in my cart. >> You already had that? >> Yeah. I had this in that in my cart. And this in my cart. >> Okay. You have an ID with you? >> No. >> She had no receipt to prove she had purchased any of the items. At that point, the officers confronted her directly about the alleged theft, and her attitude quickly became more tense. Why? >> Cuz we were calling on you, your exact person, for a theft in progress from Kroger >> from the tissue. I gave the tissue back to her. >> Well, you took it out of the store. So, that's a theft. So, you can either cooperate. Listen to me. You can either cooperate with us or we'll take you to jail. All right. So, give them your name. >> I'm cooperating. I did not take the tissue out. I gave it back to them. >> So, regardless of whether you gave it back to them or not, it's still theft. You still took it? >> I didn't take it out the store. >> Okay. took it past points of sale. Okay. >> I have a paper paper paper towel. >> Explanations are fine for after. Right now, I need your name. >> I have paper towel and I had tissue. >> What is your name? >> Monique. >> Monnique. What's your last name? >> Smith. >> Can somebody go talk to the people at Kroger? They were in the parking lot by the uh >> wonder they teach you how to roll to town. >> Kroger doesn't call us for [ __ ] Okay. So, we're going to go talk to them. They're going to tell us what happened. So, that's what >> 31 to 30. I can take picture. >> The best thing you can do is cooperate with us and tell us. >> I am cooperating. >> Okay. >> Yeah. >> Don't feed us on some [ __ ] cuz they got cameras. We'll watch all that. >> Okay. And you can see I gave they paper they priced the paper towel. All right. >> This is mine. >> But you didn't go in there with that stuff. >> Yes, I did. >> Okay. >> Cuz I was in there for earlier before I went to TJ Maxx. >> No, I don't. Yes, I do. >> Let me see your receipt. I was at a lot of stores. >> At that point, the officers confirmed over the radio that the woman had an active arrest warrant. They then moved to arrest her, but she did everything she could to make the process more difficult. >> Why you grabbing me? >> You have a warrant for arrest? No, I don't. You got a warrant. Don't do this. >> Why do I have a warrant? >> I'm like, wait a minute. Wait a minute. Relax. >> If you don't relax, I will charge you with resisting. If you do not relax, I will charge you with resisting. Let go. Let go. If you >> When I tell you when I tell you to cooperate, this is not relaxing. >> I have a warrant for my arrest. >> Yes, you do. >> When I when they ran your social, they just told me you had a warrant. All right. All this could have been avoided except for the warrant. You just >> Why do we know I have a warrant? >> I don't know. I haven't been able to get that far cuz you haven't been straight with me. >> I mean, you didn't let me know. You're doing >> You're doing it too fast. >> You're moving around. That's why. Stop moving. I'm trying to loosen them up. >> Okay. Wait a minute now. >> Relax. >> I am relaxed. >> I'm about ready to just put you on the ground. >> Y'all always do. Hey, y'all broke my arm before. >> Relax. >> I broke my arm before. >> Now I can get a thumb in there. Now look, let me put my arms together because I haven't been through this. Okay, now let my arm go. >> You were not the one in char. Okay, I'm not going to trip you. I'm preventing you from moving cuz you've not been cooperative from the jump. >> All I was trying to do is investigate a theft investigation and you have stopped me at every turn. >> Oh, no. You say I got a warrant for my arrest once I gave you my my thing. >> You might have both. You do have a warrant, but I was trying to figure out the theft thing before. >> Okay. So, when is the warrant? >> I haven't been able to get that far because you have not been cooperating with me. Okay. >> Yes. >> When is anything on your person legal or dangerous? No. >> Anything going to cut, poke, or stick me? >> No. >> Okay. Separate your feet for me. >> When is the warrant? >> We don't know all that. >> Can you put my tablet in my bag, please? >> Everything will go with you. After successfully handcuffing the woman, the officers searched through her belongings for receipts that could prove her innocence, giving her a chance to back up her claims. However, it seemed there was no one to clear here. >> Where's the receipt at? >> Not that bag. >> This bag? >> Yeah, >> this bag. >> Yeah. >> All right. >> No, Metag TJ Maxx, too. We got stuff. >> There ain't no receipt in here. >> Run in. No, he bought that for me. >> Yeah, he went in the car. He bought that. That's his stuff. >> Who's he? >> Yeah. >> Who? >> That's my boyfriend's stuff. >> Okay. All right. >> Well, we'll check on it. >> You've been out stealing. I'm not a fool. >> You act like I'm an idiot. >> I'm not acting like you're idiot. >> All right. Well, you are. >> No, I'm not. >> You're You've been out stealing today. >> I just seen those are my head days. >> All right. What What are they looking for? >> I couldn't hear. They're wanting to know how much products you've got. >> We got all kinds of stuff. >> We got all kinds of meat and frozen stuff, some cereal, some juice, some tea. We got fell off. >> And you threw toilet paper at him, so I'll just charge it with robbery. >> You want to cooperate? I throw toilet paper at them. I had toilet paper under >> tossed it to it to her. >> My guess is to get away. >> No, I took the toilet paper down back down the road. >> All right. >> Down the aisle. >> Well, you're going to get charged with theft, too. you can't produce a receipt. >> Her story kept changing as she tried to explain the merchandise. Meanwhile, the officers found more items with brand new price tags still attached, leading them to suspect she had stolen from more than just one store. >> And he got him some stuff. >> It's all that TJ Maxx stuff. >> That's all. Yeah. >> No, that's mine. >> It's all got fresh TJ Maxx tags on it. We're going to call it TJ Maxx stuff for now. >> Usually when I give something to somebody, I usually don't give them stuff with the tags on it. >> DJ, he just came out. That's mine. That's oil from home. >> He didn't come out with TJ Maxx bags when he bought all this stuff from TJ Maxx. >> Yeah, he had a bag, but he gave me mine and he left. That's mine. >> I got stuff at home, too. That's all my stuff. >> And that's my stuff, too. >> Okay. Well, that stuff's not right now in your stuff. >> That's either going back to the store or it's going in our property until you can prove ownership. >> Nice. What's up? All right, let's go. See this car? >> We need to hold on to that up front. Do you have anything on your >> No, put that back in my bag. Just sit it back cuz I never get my stuff back. I never get my phone or my tablet back. Put it Just put it in my bag and keep it all together. >> So, it's not staying on your phone. No, >> it's not staying on your ride. Up to that point, the woman remained tense but was still somewhat cooperative. However, her frustration continued to escalate and before long, her behavior became completely uncontrollable. >> Get in the goddamn >> you. >> Now I see why you got thrown to the ground. >> Yeah. Well, throw me to the ground then. >> Get away from me. >> Don't kick me. I'll get in the car. >> My shoe. >> Nope. Get in your knees in the car. I will get your shoes. >> I'M IN HERE ALREADY. I'M IN HERE. STOP MOVING. >> You just got to INSULT HIM. >> I DON'T CARE. YOU ALWAYS GOT TO SLOW. Give me my shoe. >> You don't get to tell us what to do. Get your foot in the car. Get your foot in the car. >> Get my shoe off. >> It's going in the trunk. Get your foot in the car. I'm done arguing. >> I didn't put it in car to make you do this. I'll help you with this. Thank you. >> They confirmed your warrant. So, you're also under arrest for that. >> What? For the warrant? >> Yeah, your warrant. >> You already said that, but I was asking you what for what? When was the warrant? >> I hadn't had a chance to talk to dispatch or look at my computer for that cuz you were being kind of a pain. >> Who cares now? Y'all were being a pain. He was being paid to me. Yeah, I treat people how they treat me. >> The suspect was charged with obstructing official business and misdemeanor theft. The theft charge was later dismissed, but she was found guilty of obstructing official business, sentenced to 5 years of probation, and ordered to pay $362 in court costs. Arguing, changing stories, and refusing to cooperate only make a police investigation more difficult. Even if an initial charge changes later, obstructing officers during their duties can still lead to serious legal consequences. >> What made you want to do it today? What happened? >> I don't know. Rolling cash. >> Yeah. >> Remember she had the ground beef on him? >> She never even attempted to turn it to scan. She scanned the ground pork twice. >> On the 9th of January 2025, police received a call from Walmart reporting a woman who had completed her purchase at a selfch checkout and was heading toward the exit. However, store security noticed suspicious activity during the transaction. Here's what happened when officers arrived at the scene. He >> sits over here. Never attempts to scan him. >> Rosa, right now you're under arrest for retail thefts. Okay, just so you understand that. I got to read you your rights. It's like TV. Okay. >> So, am I going to have to go to jail? >> Uh, no. >> Am I going to have to go to the precinct? I mean, [music] am I have to go with you guys? >> It's a possibility. Yeah. >> So, if you watch the next one, she has two receipts. Only one gets scanned. Set to the side. The Kit Kats get scanned, but the more expensive candy at the bottom does not get scanned. >> Rosa, what's going on with this? >> I'm sorry. You know, this is not the norm for me. >> Yeah, >> I've never been in trouble for this. >> Well, what what what made you want to do it today? Like, what happened? >> I don't know. Running low on cash and I was trying to get groceries and trying to pay for the majority of it. >> Yeah. Let me uh you got the receipt for the actual receipt for us? >> Yes. She had it right here. But earlier can I see that one? >> Yep. >> To prevent the suspect from overhearing the investigation and coming up with excuses, the officers spoke privately with the loss prevention employee about the specific actions she had taken. >> So she's if she's doubling up on items. >> Mhm. >> So like these two tater tots. Did she take something? >> No, she scanned them both. She knows exactly what she's doing. Yeah. >> So, she scanned both of the potato chops, but the ground pork, remember, she had the ground beef on the bottom. >> She never even attempted to turn it to scan. She scanned the ground fork twice. >> No contract. >> Um, in there, if you keep watching the potatoes, she sets off to the side. >> Yeah. >> And she never even attempts to scan them. >> So, some of these are doubled up. So, she paid more. >> Yeah. So, the ones with the stars. >> Yeah. >> She had two tater tots. Uh, the ground pork, the one with the stars. We are refunding her for. >> Oh, so she don't know refund. >> Yes, cuz she's she scanned that in place of the ground beef. >> Okay. >> So, we're refunding. We That's why we have the star buy it. Those are the ones she did double. And then she uses EVT >> to pay for it. >> Yeah. >> All right. Don't bring it back. I watch the video, but she can't bring them back. >> Okay. I got to get to walking out. I'm going to edit the video. >> Okay. >> The suspect's actions were confirmed to have involved intentionally using cheaper items to fraudulently pay for more expensive merchandise. Moments later, the surveillance footage provided clear evidence of what she had done. >> So these she has two. Like I said, if you watch the screen, look for the UPC finds it back here. Scans it once, puts a handheld down to get back. And right here, one gas X gets scanned. The other one doesn't. Scans the Pepto. scans the one gas X and no attempt to scan that second gas X. >> Okay. >> Rosa, is this just uh like normal groceries for you? Like home home stuff? >> Okay. >> Oh, here's a shampoo. So, I'll show you. >> So, >> so right here, this the orange bottle is the cheaper bottle. Scanned it. Scanned it again. As you see, that one never got turned. >> That's a double up, right? >> That's the 20. Yeah. Yeah. >> So, we had to refund that. So, >> but you guys got that. You got that right. What you're going to do? >> Yeah. She just needs the receipt. She'll scan it and then >> it'll pop the other double up. One shoe that you grab that copy. >> Thank you. >> And then, like I said, the chocolate milk. She scan one, didn't scan the other. The white milk scan one, didn't scan the other. So there' be similar item that's cheaper on this. So there always be two items, but one would scan and one wouldn't. >> Not in all instances. Um like I said, the duct tape. She had two duct tape. Scan the clear one, didn't scan the darker one at the bottom. Um the deodorant, uh I didn't actually see the deodorant. I seemed that was before I started watching her, but it wasn't on the receipt. [snorts] >> This evidence made it difficult for the suspect to deny the wrongdoing she had committed. The officers then explained what she would likely face as a result of her actions. >> Uh Rosa, what we're going to do, we're going to go to the station. Okay. Uh I'm just going to fingerprint you, take a picture. All you're doing is getting a ticket and then you're leaving. Okay. It's just a misdemeanor ticket. You'll get a court date. Okay. >> Uh that'll be determined at the court date. So nothing crazy. You're not going to go down to county or anything. If you're just going to go station, you have to sit in like a booking area. We'll do our stuff and get you out of there. >> You don't want to be there. customer page machine. So I don't want to run low. >> Where is it? >> At home electronics. >> It's on the car. >> No. >> Okay. [snorts] Like 30 minutes. >> It says it's 118. It should be fine. Should be fine. >> Okay. >> Okay. Cool. I'm going to have you stand up. Okay. I got to put you in handcuffs. You're going to stand up. And >> I just walk out. >> No. Okay. Handcuffs. So turn around. You just leave all that there. We'll take all that with you. >> And then do I have to come back and take my cars? >> Yeah. >> I'm going to let you know sometimes with these we tow the vehicle I'm not doing it. You've been straight up with being honest. But just understand that that that is a possibility. Okay. This continues. >> She seemed remorseful as if this was the first time she had ever done something like this. What do you think? Did her actions look more like those of someone experienced rather than a firsttime offender? [music] And if you've ever wondered what it was like to be held at a police station, this was it. You can call your son and then uh get you in and out of here real quick. >> The cover. >> You might Yeah, you might have to go more than once. So, you can either plead guilty, take the fine, or plead not guilty, and then you go through the trial and everything. on your >> I think believe you have to show uh proof of income and then if you're under a certain income they'll assign you a public defender. So that's how it goes. Okay. Rosa was charged with retail theft, a misdemeanor for intentionally under ringing merchandise at the Walmart selfch checkout. Trying to save money through selfch checkout fraud can end up costing far more when it leads to criminal charges and a court appearance. Next, this woman shamelessly tried every possible way to beg for leniency, unaware that it only made her seem more experienced in her wrongdoing. >> You are detained right now. Friending investigation for shoplifting, right? >> Can I just go back and pay for this stuff? >> No. So, we're going to go to the office right now, but >> I just I'm very low income. I'm a single mom. Anything. >> On the 28th of July, 2025, police received a report from Walmart after staff caught a woman on surveillance deliberately skip scanning multiple items. When officers arrived, they immediately stopped the suspect just after she had passed the final point of sale, leaving her visibly shaken. >> Just leave the car right here and then walk with me cuz we got you on camera right now. Skip things. So, right now, I'm off the Los Chris's Police Department. You are detained right now. Pending investigation for shoplifting. All right. >> Can I just go back and pay for this stuff? >> No. So, we're going to go to the office right now, but I'm letting you know that we watch you on camera. So, I'm telling you right now, you are detained at this time >> because I didn't ring up, sir. I'm not going to put you in handcuffs as long as you promise me that if you do anything other than cooperate, I will use force upon you. Okay? >> Can I choose to pay for this? >> No, we're past that cuz you already left all points of sale. So, let's go ahead and walk over now. I'm telling you right now, unless you go with I want you to listen right now. I'm escorting you over here. You can talk to them in there. I got you. But I'm telling you [clears throat] right now, anything other than cooperation, I will use force upon you. Okay? >> Okay. >> So, let's walk this way. I got you. I'm just letting you know, ma'am. I'm just advising you now. That's a warning. Yeah. No. No. >> From the woman's reaction, she silently admitted to the theft. Shortly afterward, inside the loss prevention office, she revealed the reason behind her actions. >> So, right now, like I said, we got you on camera uh folding clothes with not and not scanning all items, also the sunglasses that are in your purse. >> Okay. >> All right. Is there any other items that you have on you that you attempted to take from the store? >> No, sir. >> It's just what we saw? >> Yes, sir. >> All right. Can I see the >> Yeah. And are are you the management or >> I work for you? >> Oh, okay. Well, >> okay. And then I need your bag right now to make sure that there's no other items in there that you can see. >> No, just my personal items. I have a bunch of hair clips cuz I break them all the time. And >> if you could take it off for me, please. >> My tones. My >> Yeah. >> Are you going to give me a refund for what you paid for since mostly everything is? >> Okay. And then you're going to be charged. And what is going to happen today? Like, am I going to get a citation and have to go to court for it? Um, I have a special needs daughter at home, my daughter-in-law, that I need to take care of. >> I'm very sorry for that, ma'am, but [snorts] you decided to steal, so you'll be going to jail. >> No, no, I understand. >> So, today you will be going to jail. >> Are you serious? >> Yes, ma'am. >> Okay. >> It's a restable offense. So, what's the reason for you trying to take the items? You have money to purchase it? >> I just I'm very low income. I'm a single mom raising I have my my two daughters. One is special needs and and very sick right now. I just >> Did she put other tags on some of them? >> Huh? >> You said she replaced some of the tags. >> The yellowies that I'm taking off are the ones that she was putting on. >> Okay. Just so I could have that for my report. >> Just I mean I'm just very low income and just I don't know. I've never done this before. >> What did you think of her reason for stealing? Could you accept it? Whatever the answer, her crime could not be excused. The officer then explained the consequences she was about to face. >> Also, Walmart Walmart would like you to be trespassed from all of them. >> So, you are never welcomed at any Walmart in the city of Los Cusius. >> You understand? >> Yes. >> If you do come back to any Walmart, you will be arrested for trespassing. All right. >> Yeah. Like, can I tell my son? >> Uh, right now, no, ma'am. >> Okay. >> I'm supposed to go taste my daughter's lunch to school, too. Today's her first day, and she's going to be >> wondering what happened to me again. >> Yeah. >> There's no way at all that anybody would be willing to give me a chance to not be actually arrested and go to court and deal with all of this. I mean, >> no, ma'am. We have a zero tolerance right now. >> I understand that. I I do. I understand that. I just my daughters really need me and I've never done anything like this before in my life. You can look my record is completely clean of everything. I just made a bad choice today. >> She appeared remorseful, but not a single tear fell, making it seem as though she was putting on an act. Even the officer began to notice it. >> So, to let you know, >> yes, >> I've been doing this for a little while and watching you on camera and how calm you were. No show signs. >> Trust me, I wasn't calm. >> Well, I was, >> like I said, I've been I've been observing people for the last 15 years, and when they're about to commit a crime or committing a crime, usually there's signs that they're showing that they're nervous or they're just different than everybody else. You show signs of no nervousness, >> no anything, no care at all while you're walking around. So, like you saying that this is the first time, I don't believe you. And I'm I'm straight up with people. >> I'm sorry. I um I'm going to tell you right now to lie. >> I'm You have a lot right now cuz you're going to jail. >> I'm I'm being totally cooperative, totally honest about everything. >> Well, I'm just letting you know. >> Yeah. No. No. No. >> So, we're going to find out the total right now of what the items you attempted to deprive of Walmart and then we'll go from there. Um, but this is your official criminal trespass card, Miss Jackson. So, like I said, you're no longer allowed on any Walmart property. That's the parking lots, stores. >> Don't come back. All right. As of right now, this is forever, >> but maybe in a couple years or a year, you could call back management and let them know and see if they decide to take this away. >> What did you think of the officer's reasoning? If you have an opinion, don't forget to leave it in the comments below. But the woman showed no sign of stopping her attempt to gain sympathy. She even called her family while maintaining the same attitude. >> Hey GJ. Um, something really bad. Um, I got caught stealing stuff at Walmart on Valley. And so they are arresting me and I probably won't get out tomorrow. And I I don't know why I do it today. You know why I don't do this stuff. I just, you know, things have been really tight right now and I just I don't know yet. But he says that it's a zero tolerance face wipe the face wipes, you know, needs to clean our face. I'm worried about Britney because, you know, to get her in sooner to the doctor, but >> I don't know what to do. He said probably till tomorrow because I judge and I you know I tried talking to them to see if they you know just I mean I don't know how it works at this thing. They think that I you know a pro at doing this because he says I wasn't nervous at all. Of course I was nervous. How do you tell? I mean different people show how they're nervous. Different people have never done this before. Otherwise if I was a pro, I wouldn't have got caught. Am I right? like, you know, I'm in the office with them. Um, the truck is parked out front. I don't know. I don't know the rules of the law on that. >> I don't know. >> Oh, there's no way it was more than $300. There's no way, >> but it's probably not not even $100. Like, >> she insisted that she hadn't stolen as much as $100, as if trying to preserve what little dignity she had left in front of her family. Shortly afterward, the officer confirmed the total value of the merchandise she had attempted to steal. >> So, this was the old one versus 20 and then it came out to 132. >> Yeah. And this one should be 14. >> Okay. >> That stuff was already on the shirts that much. >> Yeah. Everything's priced out. So, so at least $118 worth of items. You try it. >> All right. >> So, um what are you going to want to put in your bag? my wallet, my phone, my necklace. >> All right. You want come right here and do that? >> I have to take off my earrings also or >> Yeah, cuz they're not they're going to put them in your property. They're going to let you keep them. >> I just didn't know. >> Was the items that were on the receipt, the correct one? >> So, the ones that she paid for were the switched ones? >> Yeah, cuz they're the one. >> Except for the water. >> Except for the water. >> I didn't pay for the water. >> Yeah. Yeah, I got you. Yeah. Yeah. >> Two bucks in her right here. >> Okay. All right. So, she didn't pay the rack price for five items. She switched the tag out. And then the total of 13275. >> Do you know if my son is here yet or >> I'll wait for him. >> Okay. >> Is it necessary since I'm cooperative? >> The woman was charged with retail theft and unlawful switching of price tags. Retail theft is never justified by personal hardship. One bad decision can lead to criminal charges, financial consequences, and lasting damage to your reputation and future. Before the next shoplifter, let's meet an 18-year-old who thought she owned the university. >> Sir, what is the point? >> You don't understand. You're outsider. So, that's how they feel. >> How am I an outsider? I work here. >> She's down on the ground. I'm not going to ask you. Get down in one. >> One taser. On the 1st of November 2023, officers were dispatched to a university classroom after receiving reports of a female student causing a disturbance and disrupting class. Even when police arrived on the scene, she did not make things any easier for them. >> You just come in here just to say something dumb and I don't want to talk to you right now. >> First of all, listen to me. >> I'm upset right now. >> And I understand that, but just because you're upset doesn't mean that it's going to make everything right. >> It's not. >> I'm I'm here for a reason, right? I would not be here. Why did you come up here? >> Are you Are you disrupting class today or what's going on? >> No, I'm asking you. >> That's how they feel. That's That's their >> I'm not I'm asking you, >> sir. >> What is the problem? >> You don't understand. You're outsider. So that's how they feel. >> How am I an outsider? I work here, >> right? But you don't understand me on that type of level, sir. Leave alone. You don't understand me, right? >> No. Listen to me. >> No, listen to me. You don't understand me, right? >> I try to find out what is going on. >> Exactly. I'm trying to get you to understand from a different perspective because you don't understand. >> No, you the minute I walked in and I tried to talk >> because I was upset, SIR. I'M TRYING TO DO RIGHT THIS. NO, I don't. No, I don't mean that. >> Is Is she Is she a student here? Same thing. >> She's a student in this class. We're just trying to get her out of the building cuz she's disrupting my other class. >> And I'm not You have every right to feel that way. That [ __ ] entitled me, right? I'm not talking to you no more. That [ __ ] talk to me, right? No, that's right. I'm not talking to you. I'm talking to her. That [ __ ] talk ID. >> That [ __ ] entitle me, right? Do you have that? Right. >> She arrogantly believed she could handle the situation herself and ignored nearly every question the officers asked. In an effort to deescalate the tension, the officers spoke privately with her friend to better understand what had actually happened. >> Of course, >> she's been touched and she just got kicked out of her grandmother's house because they weren't believe what she was saying. >> So, what does that have to do with this? That's what we were just telling you. It's just too much depression and all that. She just got kicked out. Like literally just >> How old is she? >> I think she like what? 18 19. She like 1920. >> Do you know her name? >> How? I don't know. Yeah, you might know. >> Santori T O R I A >> Smith. >> And she's in your class. >> Yeah. If she, you know, I don't want to be in no trouble, man. I just couldn't >> That's uh just It's beyond that math. So, >> listen, I was touch. >> Okay, Miss Smith. >> How can we help? >> I was You can't help me, ma'am, cuz you don't understand me, ma'am. You would never understand me. >> Can we find that? >> Nobody. >> Okay, Miss Smith, listen to me. >> Nobody, ma'am. Miss Smith, >> I was touched on, so I feel a certain way about certain things that you might not think of because you don't know me. >> It was clear she had no intention of cooperating with the officers. Yet, the strange contradiction was that she kept insisting they didn't understand her, even though she had barely given them a chance to speak with her in the first place. >> I know you're trying to ignore me, Miss Smith. I am telling you, >> sir, I don't want to talk to you because when I But it don't matter. You're not in charge. I don't I don't care. >> You're not in charge. >> How do you feel that? >> I'm not making I'm not trying to make you offend. >> Yes. You're disrupting the class. >> Y'all feel that way. You know, do you >> You don't understand what going on because I tried to explain myself and you don't want to hear what I have to say. >> No. No. You've already said >> already out here. >> Huh? >> Things around. >> But because you just came in, you don't understand me, sir. >> So, I'm trying to talk to you. What is your problem? >> But if you would allow me to explain it to you. >> Explain it to me now. >> But when I tried to do that, you just >> No, you >> I can't. No. >> Okay. You need to leave the building. >> See, you need to leave the building. Understand? >> You're not giving me many options. >> Her refusal to cooperate had already crossed into obstructive behavior, giving officers grounds to detain her. However, because the instructor still hoped for a peaceful resolution, she was given another chance only to make the situation even more tense. You >> feel that way. Because you feel a certain way. >> Certain options. >> Because you feel a certain way, you're entitled to feel. Because do not touch me. I don't put my hand on you. Do not be distracted. Do not put Yeah, cuz I I WILL TAKE IT THERE WITH YOU LIKE I don't [laughter] because you don't know me. We can take you there. WE CAN TAKE YOU THERE BECAUSE YOU PUT YOUR HANDS ON ME. SO I UNDERSTAND THAT. SO I PUT MY HANDS ON YOU. IF I PUT MY HANDS ON YOU BECAUSE YOU HAD THAT BADGE ON YOUR CHEST, YOU FEEL LIKE IT'S RIGHT. YOU DON'T KNOW ME AND THAT'S WHY [laughter] I DON'T WANT TO TALK TO YOU. I KNOW HE'S NOT HAVING NO TEETH. YOU JUST PUT YOUR HANDS ON ME. I DIDN'T PUT MY HANDS ON YOU. I'M TRYING TO TALK TO YOU. >> SO BECAUSE YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND ME, SIR, YOU JUST MAKING IT ABOUT YOU. Do not touch me. >> DO NOT TOUCH ME. YOU JUST TOUCH ME. YOU JUST TOUCH ME. BUT IT'S ABOUT YOU, RIGHT? IT'S ABOUT YOU, RIGHT? >> I'M >> IT'S ABOUT YOU, RIGHT? >> I'm going to >> It's about you, right? You You It was okay for you to put your hands on me, right? >> Shut up. >> I'm sir. You've already touched me. >> But you put your hands on me first. You put your hands on me first. It's okay for you to put your hands on me. It's okay for you to put your hands on me, but it's disrespectful to put my hands on you. That's That's entirely I'm trying to >> I need you to sit down and calm down, >> sir. I need you. I'm supposed to just leave. >> You don't have to deal with me no more. >> I've already asked you that and you didn't want to do that >> because I am you you asked me to explain. Yes or no? >> Okay. >> Yes or no? >> What is the problem? >> I don't feel like I can talk to you, sir. You know, you don't understand me. >> Okay. >> So, I don't feel >> you've already listened to me, >> sir. No, let me apologize for my Let me take initiative for what I do wrong [snorts] >> and apologize. But after that, I'm going to leave it alone. You're going to let me go. Okay. >> No, it doesn't work that way. >> But because you feel that way, that's how you feel. You're entitled to feel how you want to feel, but you're invalidating how I feel. >> She admitted she would take responsibility for her actions, but with that attitude, it was hard to believe. Even after being escorted outside, she became increasingly defiant, ultimately leading herself to a painful outcome. Do you know >> I feel you don't love me AS SOON AS SHE get right here. >> No. Stop. Stop. Just stop. I just stop. Just stop. >> Don't touch me. Hey. Bam. Touch me IF YOU WANT TO. TOUCH ME IF YOU WANT TO. TOUCH ME IF YOU WANT TO. >> STOP. >> TOUCH ME IF YOU WANT TO. >> YOU JUST PUT YOUR HANDS ON ME, SIR. >> GET DOWN ON THE GROUND. GET DOWN ON THE GROUND. >> GET down on the ground. [laughter] I'm not going to ask you. Get down to one. >> I don't care. >> One taser. >> Get down on the ground. >> Get down. Get down on the ground. Put your hands behind your back. Put your hands behind your back. 231 Santa Fe. I need 1038 disruptive student on campus as soon as possible. 10:38. >> Keep in mind that she was already 18 years old, old enough to be held legally responsible for her actions. Yet she showed little sign of remorse. By this point, EMS had been called to assist her, turning what should have been a simple incident into one that consumed far more resources because of her own behavior. >> She she hit you correct or there was some type of physical pictures of her, pictures of him. >> We can't read the hand. No, they have to take. >> No, we're not. >> I just I don't know. I feel like I It won't hurt as bad if I do it versus >> What if you talk to me while they do it? So that's >> I just have anxiety. So >> I I know you don't. It's okay. Okay. >> Wait, wait. Okay. You sure? >> No. That's what I'm saying. >> I know. Don't even look this way. I feel like it would be best for me to just take it out. >> Wait, hurry. Sorry. >> The woman was charged with disrupting a school function and battery on a peace officer. Actions have consequences regardless of age or emotions. Refusing to take responsibility and escalating a situation only turns a solvable problem into a much bigger one. Respect, self-control, and cooperation often prevent consequences that cannot be undone later. >> I WAS I DIDN'T MOVE FOR [screaming] NOTHING. DID NOT RESIST OR NOTHING. >> BECAUSE I DON'T HAVE A REASON TO STEAL, I HAVE THE MONEY. >> On the 26th of January, 2026, police intercepted a woman attempting to walk out of a store with a cart full of unpaid merchandise. She initially treated the incident like a minor misunderstanding, completely unaware of the harsh reality about to hit her. Here is what happened next. You're going >> to pay for everything. We're watching the camera. All right, we're going to go to the office over here. Okay. Well, I don't think that's what we're doing. I think we're going to I think they're going to go ahead and charge it for >> I don't care. My wallet. >> Well, we'll keep that for an hour here. Huh? >> You can take the bottle. >> But you're in there. You're not going to give anything other than the bottle. >> We'll figure it out. >> It's okay. >> I don't even pay for it. >> I don't know. I can pay for it. It's not even that easy. I don't care. Whatever you got to do. >> She confidently assumed this stunt would only earn her a slap on the wrist and a simple trespass warning. However, her entitled behavior inside the loss prevention office quickly shattered any hope of a quick and easy exit. >> Stop touching me before I get mad. Okay. I'M NOT EVEN GOING I'M NOT I'M NOT DOING NOTHING. I'M NOT DOING NOTHING. NO. >> I'M NOT doing nothing. I'm not even resisting. I'M NOT RESISTING. I DIDN'T DO ANYTHING. I DIDN'T I SAID THEY HURT. I DIDN'T EVEN RESIST OR NOTHING. I DIDN'T MOVE OR NOTHING. I [screaming] WAS BEING I DIDN'T MOVE FOR NOTHING. I DIDN'T RESIST OR NOTHING. I SHOWED YOU I DIDN'T DO NOTHING. >> He He grabbed me. >> I'm calm. I was already calm. >> I was already calm. >> I was calm. >> All I SAID WAS IT HURT. I DIDN'T EVEN DO NOTHING. LOOK, you stand up. >> Taking your handcuffs. >> I I SAID I GAVE THEM TO YOU. >> That's not what you said. You said you're not going to keep those. >> I SAID I SAID IT HURT. I didn't do nothing. I gave you everything you need. I DON'T CARE TO PAY for nothing. Don't care for nothing. I DIDN'T DO NOTHING. I didn't say nothing. I DIDN'T SAY NOTHING AT ALL. He just ME I DIDN'T SAY NOTHING. I RESIST. >> SHE cast herself as the victim even though she knew exactly what she had been doing. But the cops weren't buying her act. She even acted as if she had the authority to reject the officer's decision. >> Here it is. I'll give you the money right now. >> You're not. YOU'RE GOING TO JAIL. >> SHUT UP. >> You already heard me. Okay. >> All right. Good. >> Shut up. Talking to me. >> I want you to sit down. >> I don't care what you want. Stop touching me. >> SIT DOWN. >> NO. [screaming] STOP TOUCHING ME. >> STOP GETTING UP THEN. >> NO. LEAVE ME ALONE. GET OUT OF ANOTHER OFFICER. GET YOU. CAN YOU GET THE OUT OF MY FACE? YOU ALREADY HURT ME. >> NO. >> Stop touching me. >> Nobody's touching me. >> I DON'T CARE. GET OUT OF MY FACE. >> DOWN. You're not going to be touched. Okay. >> I don't care. >> Just say I'll give you all the money. I don't care. I HAVE THE MONEY RIGHT THERE. Do you want the money? >> Nope. E41, >> it's hurting me. >> Clinging desperately to the cash in her purse, she weaponized her money as a pathetic excuse. She repeatedly used it to shift the blame onto the officers and justify her actions. >> NO, I NEVER WALKED PAST THE LAST 20 SALES. NO, that's not that's not how that go. I had cash in my baby's bag and I can give you the money. I had to get my baby's bag. >> You stopped me where I got my baby's bag from. I never went past the LAST POINT OF SALE. SO, LET ME PAY FOR IT. >> CAN I have the unit out here for a transport, please? >> Is that how it go? Be real. I NEVER WALKED PAST THE LAST POINT OF SALE. AND YOU KNOW THAT YOU STOPPED ME BEFORE I GOT THERE. I WAS GOING TO PAY FOR IT. THE CASH IS IN MY BABY'S BAG. >> SO, these three >> I never went past the LAST POINT OF SALE. YOU CAN'T ARREST ME. THAT'S NOT FAIR. I WAS GOING TO PAY FOR IT. I NEVER WALKED OUT THE DOUBLE DOORS. I NEED TO GET CLOSE TO THE DOUBLE DOORS. THAT'S NOT FAIR. LET ME PAY FOR IT. >> DO YOU KNOW WHAT shoplifting is? >> I NEVER YOU HAVE TO WALK OUT THE LAST >> YOU CONCEAL PROPERTY. >> I didn't conceal. >> You put it inside bags and try to walk out the door. THAT'S >> I DIDN'T BUT I DIDN'T TRY TO WALK OUT THE DOOR. >> DID YOU BAG YOUR PROPERTY BEFORE PAYING FOR IT USUALLY? >> NO, BUT I I HAVE TO GET THE CASH OUT MY BABY BAG. MY BABY BAG WAS AT THE CUSTOMER SERVICE. YOU WOULD HAVE SEEN ME STOP THERE BECAUSE I STOPPED THERE. THE CASH IS IN MY BABY'S BAG ALONG WITH MY OTHER DEBIT CARD. I NEVER WALKED PAST THE LAST ONE. SO I DIDN'T GET PAST THE DOUBLE DOOR. SO I DIDN'T STEAL ANYTHING. I didn't put nothing in A BAG OR NOTHING. I PUT IT IN THAT BAG. THAT'S A WALMART BAG. STILL IN THE STORE. >> That's not concealing anything. We're just having a unruly poverty. 14. >> I didn't I didn't steal anything CUZ I DIDN'T HAVE THE LAST ONE. HEY, YOU KNOW THAT >> Harris out here. I need somebody. >> I also need a supervisor app force. >> Her emotions gradually spiraled out of control. Realizing the officers were unmoved by her theater. She desperately turned her attention to the loss prevention staff, launching into a frantic attempt to justify her actions. >> IN MY BABY'S BAG, HE STOPPED ME WHERE I WAS GETTING MY BABY BAG AT. I COULDN'T TAKE MY BABY BAG IN THE STORE BECAUSE it's a diaper bag. WHEN SHE TOLD ME TO LEAVE A DIAPER BAG, I TOOK THE DIAPER BAG. You're telling me this for no reason. >> I'm telling you this because I WAS GOING TO PAY FOR IT. >> BUT I DIDN'T GET A CHANCE TO PAY. THAT'S NOT FAIR. I CAN PAY FOR ANYTHING THAT I HAVE. I DIDN'T GET A CHANCE to pay FOR IT. AND Y'ALL KNOW THAT'S HOW IT GO. BUT I IT'S NOT STEALING UNTIL YOU WALK OUT THE DOUBLE DOORS. NO, IT'S not fair. That's not fair. That's not fair. THAT'S NOT FAIR. Y'ALL KNOW THAT'S ALL THEY DOING. THEY'RE OFFERING TO STEAL PAPER BECAUSE I WAS GOING TO PAY FOR IT. I HAVE A WHOLE BABY. [screaming] I DON'T HAVE NO REASON to steal. I have money for anything that I need to buy. I don't have NO REASON TO BUY. I DIDN'T GO past the DOUBLE DOORS. MY COUCH IS IN MY BABY BAG. MY BABY BAG IS OUT THERE. I DIDN'T BRING MY BABY BACK PASS ME IN THE STORE. YOU CAN ASK THE LADY THAT WAS WHEN I FIRST BOUGHT IN. SHE MADE ME FILL MY BABY BAG DOWN. But I'm telling YOU THIS BECAUSE IT MATTER BECAUSE I DON'T HAVE A REASON TO STEAL. I HAVE THE MONEY. But I'm not stealing. Y'all can literally steal. Let me go BECAUSE I CAN PAY FOR IT. I CAN GO. BUT THIS IS NOT FAIR. I DIDN'T GO PAST THE LAST POINT OF SALE. YOU KNOW THAT. Never mind. >> I love you. >> It appeared that every attempt to clear her name had completely failed. Instead, she doubled down on her defiance, escalating the encounter into a completely chaotic and embarrassing scene right before being hauled away. >> THERE'S A STORE PROPERTY. THE MONEY, MY BABY BAG. NOBODY IN MY BABY BAG. [screaming] OR I CAN GIVE YOU A DIFFERENT CARD. >> SIT DOWN. Sit down. Sit down. THAT'S NOT FAIR. I'M NOT HERE TO WORK WITH YOU. I HAVE THE MONEY. >> I have the money. >> Sit down. >> No. Cuz you're not listening to me. I have [laughter] >> You want to go? >> NO. I HAVE THE MONEY. What's the matter? >> I HAVE THE MONEY. GO. >> NO. NO. BECAUSE YOU'RE NOT LISTENING TO ME. YOU >> YOU'RE GOING TO JAIL. OKAY. >> OKAY. I DON'T CARE. SIT DOWN TO the car. Come on. >> I DON'T CARE. NO. SIT DOWN. NO, give me a moment. [screaming] >> [screaming] >> STOP. [laughter and screaming] [screaming] STOP. STOP. LET ME GO. LET ME GO. LET ME GO. I HAVE THE MONEY HERE. Let me go. [screaming] Let me go. LET ME GO. LET ME GO. IN THE END, the woman was charged with retail theft. Accept responsibility for your actions instead of making excuses because refusing accountability often turns a bad situation into a worse one.
