[Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Hi, my name is Detective Brandy Meyers >> and I am officer Richard Helis with the Mason Police Department. Today we're going to be uh riding around uh chagging some calls citywide. Uh just give you guys an idea of what a regular or a normal patrol officer does on a daily basis. Uh we're going to go to different amount of calls, different type of calls, and hopefully we can uh show you guys something cool uh to show you guys what an officer does and um how hard it can be sometimes >> and hot. >> And hot. Yeah. >> We are going to reports of a shoplifting at Circle K. It looks like a woman is putting items into her purse and she just got into a maroon SUV heading westbound on ground. So, she should be coming our way. We're going to keep an eye out for it. >> So, the temporary tag on the license plate comes back to this address and we are just driving by the address to see if the vehicle is here. Did >> she just book it? >> Was that her? What's the description on that female? Yeah, that's her. >> 20 is gray tank top. >> Yeah. >> What are we? 64th in Ingram. >> P2. >> We'll be out with that female at 64th. Anyway, >> this coming from the Circle K. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> On a room. >> Yeah. So, you were not in the maroon vehicle. This right here. >> Oh, I got you. I was like, this is just a weird a weird coincidence if that is the car we're looking for and you >> just trying to put it together. >> He stayed in the car and then we had uh he paid for a food stamps car. But this food stamps car >> is that him that stayed in the car? So, there's somebody else in the car right now. This is the car we're looking for from the Circle K. Um the suspect who is the female left the Circle K in this vehicle. As we're looking for this vehicle, we saw her and she matched the description. So we end up talking to her and she says the person who drove the car away from Circle K is still in this vehicle. So we want to make sure we contact him to see if he has any idea of what happened at the Circle K. So the reason we're contacting you is the Circle K had called in that there may have been a theft involving her >> really. And because she left in this vehicle with you, they gave out the vehicle description and we end up finding the vehicle obviously and her. So, I want to make sure that I talk to you guys, too. >> Like I said, you've been cool with me. You've been cool with my partner. >> I was honest. Like, I >> You honest? Yeah. >> It sucks, but like I still milk, dude. The milk. >> Yeah. I mean, >> I know it's the principle behind it. If you're going to steal that, you can probably steal more. Blah blah blah. I get it. >> So, right now, we do have that female uh detained. We did find that item that she did steal. uh she's being very cool and honest with us and that goes a long way with us. So, I'm pretty sure we're going to work with her. Um she's going to still be held accountable for what she did because sometimes these small things turn into big things, but she's being really honest and um it's not the crumb of the century, so we'll do with it accordingly. >> Yeah, I'm I'm a friend. I mean, I still >> Here, Brian, come on over here. >> Turn around. >> You got a warrant right now. So, right now under arrest, >> right? >> What's the warrant for, Brian? >> I don't know. >> I really don't know. >> I do have a knife in my right pocket. >> What? >> A knife, right? >> Okay. Yep. >> You miss court or anything like Jeff? >> Um, no. I I don't know. >> Yeah, >> he had this in his pocket. This was Alli's. >> Okay. Separate the pig for me a little bit. What's your dad's name, Brian? >> Scott. >> Do you want me to tell him he had a warrant? >> Um, he he hurt, but I mean, we can still tell him. >> Yeah. What did you get on your side? >> Uh, shoplifting turned into a warrant arrest. Uh, the person that was, you know, with the milk, whatever it was, she was involved with your guys here in that car. So >> obviously detained all of them and just uh ran in force and lo and behold we got one with warrant. >> Did she admit anything? I saw the milk. >> Yeah, she she was super cool. She was uh she was pretty gone with us. Um she admitted well that it was pretty petty that hey she could have paid for it. She didn't. Um but yeah, I mean she's probably going to get a CNR >> and then he's going for this warrant. That's it. >> So sight and release on her. >> Yeah. >> Okay, cool. >> Pretty much it. Nothing crazy. What is the lesson we learned today? >> Who has a fouryear warranty you don't know about? >> What's the lesson though? >> Don't steal a thing of milk and just pay for it. >> Thank you. >> You're welcome. >> All right. >> Yeah, I'll get >> And there's just a guy laying on the ground under a tree. We're going to make sure he's okay because it is over 100° out here. >> Black shirt, gray jeans. Hey, M police. Hey, Mesa. Police. >> You okay? >> Hey, how are you? Okay. Chihuahua. Chihuahua. Okay. Okay. Okay. >> All right. >> Do you speak English? Robert, >> do you speak English? >> Yes, >> you do. >> Robert, >> do you are you living around here? >> So, I'm coming to be April 25th. >> I got my right. >> Yeah, >> but I'm deported. Well, my wife. >> Oh, okay. Rough times. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> So, this started as a welfare check. Uh guy what appears to be sleeping on the ground. We were worried about him cuz it's pretty hot right now. and we were more worried because we couldn't wake him up. So, I finally woke up. He uh he voluntarily with consent gave me his ID and uh using that I was able to run his name and he has what appears to be a warrant. So, I'm going to try to verify his name and if he has an a picture so I can do a picture and just reconfirm everything. I'm pretty sure it's him because it's the same last name, same name and everything. What's it called? height, weight, uh all the physical description, it matches. And let's see, >> we do have a couple units in route. We actually have a drone operator, too, in route. So, that's pretty cool. sleeping under here. >> We're just going to 15, bro. Cool. >> I'll let you do it since you have gloves on. >> All right, my friend. Okay. Did you know about the warrant? >> Okay. Did you know you had one? >> Did you know you had a warrant for your arrest? No. Can I hold this? Thank you. Okay. Okay. Okay. So, checking on this guy, he's he's okay. He had some water and some food in the car, but he did give us his name and unfortunately had a warrant for his arrest, and he's going to jail today. Picking up this piece of tire seems pretty uh like it's not a big deal, but it can cause accidents, and accidents lead to injuries, and we don't want that in the city of Mesa. This is a family fight, so a domestic disturbance. Um, a woman called in saying she was in an argument with her husband because he wanted to look at her phone, >> right? Or was it she wanted to look at his phone? I'm married, too, so I know how it can get >> ups and downs. >> Yeah. Um, is this yours? I don't want to step on it or anything. >> This way. They felt more comfortable with that. >> Well, There's nothing in it, right? Can I just set it on your >> That's fine. I just didn't want to move it cuz they they didn't want me to move. >> I understand that. >> You guys, you said you guys had kids. >> A lot of them. >> Okay. I got two, too. It's a lot to handle. >> For a set, we were 16. Kind of figuring everything out together. >> You're like a teen parent. >> We are. >> So, who called the cops today? Her. >> Her? Yeah. No, she got mad at me. Like, I asked to look through her phone. She's texted other guys in the past behind my back. yada yada and tried to blame it on her being depressed or whatnot. So, I was like, "You know what? I'm just going to ask her if I could see her phone." I asked her. She said, "Yeah, no, it's fine." Was looking through it, got through like her text and her calls. I was like, "Okay." I know obviously there's nothing in here. She like snatched it back for me and I don't know. Shoot. I walked out of the room. I was like, "You have to go pick up our kids." >> You know how domestic violence laws work in Arizona, right? >> Or not at all? >> Not really. So you can't you can't assault anybody if you are in a relationship with them. It goes under domestic violence. So in Arizona, it's an automatic arrest. So for the future, keep that in mind when you and her are fighting. Somebody needs to get out of the situation before it amounts to a criminal arrest. Nobody wants that. >> Okay. Man said spots follow up. So there's a little difference in the stories. So, I just want to see if you have anything more you want to add. So, walk me through again. So, you said she was on the bed and you pushed her. What happened after that? >> Called the police. She threw a gun at my head. >> Domestic violence is one of the most difficult calls I think that an officer can go to and primarily because we don't know the people we are responding to. We don't know the history. We don't know the dynamic um between the two parties. So when an officer responds to this, they hear both sides, but somewhere in there lies the truth. And if we can't figure that out, then we have to document the incident. For this incident, the husband and wife had similar stories, but slightly different. Enough for the officer to prove that the wife assaulted the husband and he gave her a citation for assault under domestic violence law. And the husband got a citation for disorderly conduct under the domestic violence law. So, it's up to them whether they pay the ticket or they take it to trial. So, what we noticed when we walked up is there was an empty holster on the ground next to the husband. And something to consider in domestic violence relationships is that if you get arrested for a domestic violence charge and convicted, you can no longer carry a weapon in Arizona. In this incident, they carry guns. They like to shoot guns. And something like this could affect it. whether it's a misdemeanor or a felony, if they are convicted, they can no longer carry their weapons. >> It was a good day. I mean, >> it was a good day. >> Any day that you can go home, it's a good day. Uh whether it's a slow day, whether it's action-packed, as long as you're going home safe to your family, that's all that counts. [Applause] [Music]
