my parents are from Chihuahua so we are the first generation that actually came here to the United States I grew up in Lamar Colorado uh it is a very small town my parents were farmers um we pretty much helped them in anyway as far as taking care of the other little ones um while they were at work [Music] I am a Scientist community relations Division I am actually the uh community relations officer so I work a lot with like the youth [Music] programs when I grew up I only knew Spanish and when I went to school I only knew Spanish so at school that's where I learned to speak English growing up I had to translate from my parents this is a permission slip this is what you know what is happening when they found out that I was going to become a police officer I think my family was in shock maybe uh I don't think that they realize what the job consisted of you know it's you're not always on patrol I've had the opportunity to be part of the community relations division where I am able to actually interact with the community and um kind of understand on what their struggles are or you know what their needs are if there's anything that we're doing right or if there's something that we can improve um within the community
