Chief Bob Day: Any loss of life is one too many. It saddens me greatly that we’ve lost Portlanders to violence, and I feel and bear the responsibility and the burden for each of those individuals. Not only are their lives impacted, but it also affects the community and the neighborhoods in which these acts of violence occur—our officers who are first responders, our detectives who conduct investigations, our criminalists, the District Attorney’s Office, other first responders, and the entire process. The impact of this is far-reaching. We know that in the vast majority of these crimes, somebody knows something. We are asking, as we have done many times before, for that participation so we can bring the families and investigators some closure. [Music]
