Hey adrenaline junkies, welcome to Police Chase. Today we're kicking off a brand new series when people messed with the wrong cops where every dumb move instantly triggers justice mode. All right, let's dive in. >> Leave your hands on your head. >> On September 16th, 2026, shortly after 9:00 a.m. in San Diego, California, USA, police responded to reports of 33-year-old Saul Sandoval Chavez damaging nearly 18 vehicles in the North Park area. >> He uh he started breaking windows. He has a hammer. He's threatening people and he has a hammer and he's swinging it. He just broke a few windows. One >> Okay, is it is it uh Denny's on El Cajon Boulevard? >> Yes, but he is right now on El Cajon Boulevard. He's breaking windows. So, he's on El Cajon Boulevard and he's actually just >> El Cajon and what cross street? >> He is El Cajon right now and Oregon Street. >> When officers approached, Chavez fled and activated a homemade flame device before hiding inside a nearby business. Despite repeated warnings, he refused to surrender turning a routine call into a dangerous standoff. >> Get on the Get on THE [ __ ] GROUND! GET ON THE [ __ ] GROUND! GET ON THE [ __ ] GROUND! NO HEAD! NO HEAD! >> As officers attempted to intervene, Chavez directed flames toward K9 Rider and the police. Moments later, a sudden fireball erupted, forcing officers to react in seconds. >> CHAVEZ, PUT YOUR HANDS AND GET ON THE GROUND. >> [screaming] >> Three officers suffered burns, while K9 Rider recovered and returned to duty. Chavez was taken to a hospital. What began as a routine response became a powerful reminder of how quickly reckless choices can change everything. On February 4th, 2024, at approximately 5:15 p.m. in Bridgeport, Connecticut, USA, police spotted 41-year-old Jonathan Mark Lewis Bell driving a Mercedes-Benz SUV. He was suspected of possessing weapons and illegal substances. >> [screaming] [screaming] >> When officers attempted a traffic stop, Bell sped away, leading police on a pursuit along Route 8. The chase ended when his SUV crashed into a house in Ansonia, [music] turning a dangerous escape into a tense confrontation. >> [screaming] >> Officers approached and repeatedly [music] ordered Bell to show his hand. After a female passenger was safely removed, Bell reportedly [music] reached toward an unknown object, prompting officers to open fire. Everything escalated in seconds. >> [screaming] >> Officers immediately provided medical assistance, and Bell was taken to a nearby hospital. The incident left a sobering reminder: fleeing [music] from police can turn one reckless decision into consequences that cannot be undone. On January 29th, 2024, at 11:49 a.m. in Port Orange, Florida, USA, police located 57-year-old Shawn Gary Hendershot at a 7-Eleven gas station after a license plate alert revealed an outstanding warrant. >> What do we want to do? >> Um 10-31 >> Is that your Is that Is that Is that Is that your actual name you just gave me? >> Yeah. >> Okay. So, just to be fair, I just want you to sit right there for me. >> Uh-huh. >> And just uh get your hands out of your uh out of your pocket. >> When Officer Real approached, Hendershot gave a false name before suddenly attempting to flee on foot, but his escape was short-lived as the officer quickly pursued him. >> Stop running. 10-510-30. >> Stop running, man. You're not going to outrun us. >> All right. >> Within moments, Officer Real caught up with Hendershot and brought him under control, ending the brief but tense pursuit. One desperate decision had only made matters worse. >> I'm not running from the base shop. >> All right. Well, I'm going to handcuff you and I'm going to move you to your side, okay? Keep your hands on your back, all right? >> Investigators later confirmed multiple outstanding warrants related to registration and probation violations. Hendershot faced additional charges for providing a false name and resisting arrest. Sometimes, running from responsibility only brings greater consequences. >> 10-510-30. >> Leave your hands on your head. >> On August 7th, 2023 at 1:53 a.m. in Carson, California, USA, police responded to reports of 34-year-old Arturo Cernas causing a disturbance at a gas station and refusing to leave. >> Better stop. >> I found it. You can have it. >> What's in your pocket? >> Eight. Nothing. >> Hey, put your hands up. Put your hands up. Put your hands up. What is it? Put your hands up. >> it? >> Listen. >> Put your hands up. Hey, don't reach for it. Don't reach for it. >> When deputies arrived, Cernas initially complied, kneeling with his hands on his head, but moments later he suddenly reached into his pockets and backpack, ignoring repeated warnings to stop. >> Hey, get on the ground. Hey, listen. Get on the ground. >> Tension peaked when Cernas pulled out what appeared to be a handgun. Officers attempted a less-lethal response, but the confrontation quickly escalated, forcing a split-second decision. >> Leave your hands on your head. Leave your hands on your head. >> [snorts] >> Deputies immediately provided emergency aid. Investigators later confirmed the object was a CO2 BB pistol resembling a real firearm. A tense encounter became a painful reminder of how one sudden movement can change everything. >> Hey, let's get fire fire sage. >> I copy deputies are accounted for. >> That was stupid, dude. >> On June 21st, 2026, at approximately 2:55 a.m. in Hillsborough County, Florida, USA, Trooper Vasquez Cruz spotted a black Audi speeding at nearly 100 mph in a 55 mph zone on Interstate 275. When police attempted a traffic stop, the driver accelerated past 130 mph weaving through traffic on the Howard Franklin Bridge and even turning off the headlights. The pursuit was becoming dangerously unpredictable. Near mile marker 41, Trooper Vasquez Cruz performed a PIT maneuver bringing the Audi to a stop on the roadside. After a high-speed chase, the situation was finally under control. >> SHOW ME YOUR [ __ ] HANDS. ROLL THE WINDOW DOWN. SHOW ME YOUR HANDS. Show me your hands. Show me your hands. Show me your hands. Show me your hands. Get out. Get out now. That was stupid as hell. Who was in the car with you? >> The driver, Kimberly M. Gutierrez, was taken into custody while her passengers were released. She faced charges of fleeing police and reckless driving. One reckless choice had put countless lives at risk, proving that no escape is worth the danger. >> All right. Give me a second. Stay right there. >> What the heck is that? Please, please, please, please, please. Car's on fire. Please, please, please, please, please. Please back up. Please back up. Sir, I didn't I didn't drive that car. I didn't know. I didn't know. I promise. >> On January 21st, 2025 in St. Francois County, Missouri, USA, police responded to a 911 call reporting a possible break-in. As officers arrived, two BMW X2 SUVs suddenly sped away from a nearby driveway. >> It's Illinois registration E Edward N Nora 79514. In pursuit of two vehicles. [music] Looks like a possible I'm not sure what make is. They're on the right side now. Well, we'll be but it was called out as a burglary in progress. 10-4 hold out is a burglary in progress. [music] We're on highway N Nora headed back towards Farms. [music] Speeds are 65. We're coming up in Nora approaching Bismarck. >> Both drivers refused to stop racing into oncoming traffic along route N and Missouri 32. With dangerous maneuvers and high speeds, the pursuit quickly put innocent motorists at risk. >> We passed a patrol car still one St. Francis County unit in pursuit E Edward N Nora 79. We're right on 32. 10-3 I'm still lead vehicle. We're passing the Dollar General in Bismarck. We're still looks like 32 headed west. >> 8 tire. >> And we're approaching Woodline. They're running the red light, making a left up. They're going straight. It was a slow We're going 25 through the intersection. They're slowed down. I got multiple cars behind me now. >> Officers deployed spike strips, disabling the silver BMW and forcing its occupants into custody. The black BMW continued fleeing before stopping in Leadington, where both occupants ran on foot. During the pursuit, an officer suffered a shoulder injury. >> Blue hoodie and a black hoodie. >> 10-4 10-4 blue hoodie black hoodie AFC two subjects out and running. >> All units 10-50 no go. >> 5-10-4 AFC two subjects OUT AND >> STOP! GET ON THE GROUND! >> THE REMAINING SUSPECTS WERE later located or identified with charges and arrest warrants pursued. What began as a suspicious emergency call became a dangerous chase, proving how quickly reckless decisions can put an entire community at risk. >> Two. I don't know if I lost them right here or somewhere else. >> On January 17th, 2023 in Texarkana, Arkansas, USA, a trooper spotted a motorcycle with an obscured license plate and a rider without proper eye protection. What began as a routine traffic violation was about to take a dangerous turn. When the trooper activated his emergency lights, the rider accelerated away, reaching 67 mph and repeatedly changing speed. He then entered oncoming lanes, ignoring the growing danger ahead. Moments later, the motorcycle collided with a truck turning onto East 4th Street. The rider, Chauncey Basham, was thrown onto the roadway. In a split second, the pursuit took a devastating turn. Basham sustained serious injuries and was taken to Wadley Regional Medical Center, while the truck driver suffered minor injuries. One attempt to avoid a traffic stop had changed everything, reminding us that no shortcut is worth risking life. On June 6th, 2018, at approximately 8:10 p.m. in Cleveland, Ohio, USA, a police helicopter tracked a vehicle refusing to stop. What began as a routine pursuit was about to take a dangerous turn. Despite police warnings, the driver continued speeding through city streets as officers monitored every move from above. With each passing second, the risk grew greater. Suddenly, the vehicle crashed, scattering debris across the road as nearby power lines burst into flames. Within seconds, the pursuit turned into a chaotic emergency. Emergency crews rushed to secure the scene and contain the fire. What began as an attempt to escape ended in devastation, leaving one haunting question: Was running really worth the risk? On September 18th, 2023, in Alachua County, Florida, USA, deputies were alerted to a stolen BMW linked to a serious investigation traveling north on US 441. Officers located the vehicle and confirmed its tag. From that moment, stopping it safely became the priority. >> Got stop sticks available. We're on 341 now. Drive a little bit farther up and get a stop stick up. Somebody said I've got stop sticks up on 153rd Boulevard, guys. Somebody said stop sticks up on 153rd Boulevard. He's trying to go around here. All right, I'm on the way to you. Hey, you out there, Mark? Can you turn your light on and block this lane? >> Deputies followed from a distance and deployed stop sticks, but the driver avoided them by moving through the median and continued fleeing. With every attempt to escape, the danger grew. How long could this continue before one wrong move affected someone else on the road? >> Stop stick, I'm in the right lane. Try to push him to the left lane. Uh, for you guys, I got a vehicle on the driver's side right in front of you. >> [clears throat] >> Gas lane, put a gas lane. Yep, he's turning. Got to get him now. man. Hello, my driver. >> When a safe opportunity appeared, deputies performed a PIT maneuver, bringing the BMW to a stop. Officers immediately surrounded the vehicle and ordered the occupants out. The driver, identified as Javon Stephan Barclay, was then taken into custody, finally bringing the tense pursuit to an end. >> I got the exit from work. Turn up on the ferry. Turn up on the ferry. Hit the brakes. Tony, stop, guys. Remember what you're doing. Tony, stop. Stop traffic back in the back, please. >> Authorities said Barclay had an outstanding warrant for assault with a deadly weapon and a history of 13 license suspensions. He also faced allegations related to fleeing and driving with a suspended license. Another attempt to escape had ended exactly where it could have ended much earlier, in police custody, only with more consequences added along the way. >> [laughter] [laughter] >> Look where you want to take us. >> On March 4th, 2024, at approximately 4:41 p.m. on Interstate 75 in Florida, USA, Trooper Sierra noticed a white Dodge Charger with heavily tinted windows. When he activated his emergency lights, the driver, later identified as Tobias Bershard Travio Cody, accelerated away. What began as a traffic stop quickly became a dangerous pursuit. The Charger entered I-75 southbound and reportedly reached speeds above 145 mph, weaving through traffic and using the shoulder. Trooper Prosper moved into the lead as officers tried to bring the situation under control. At that speed, there was almost no room for error. One wrong move could affect everyone nearby. Near mile marker 148, the Charger and Trooper Prosper's patrol vehicle collided at roughly 120 mph. Both vehicles left the roadway and the Charger eventually came to rest in a water-filled ditch. Troopers immediately approached and secured Cody and passenger Roosevelt Williams, finally ending the high-speed pursuit. >> During the vehicle inventory, troopers reported finding suspected marijuana-related paraphernalia and a loaded handgun. Cody was medically cleared and later booked into Charlotte County Jail on allegations including aggravated fleeing and reckless driving causing damage. The pursuit was over, but its message remained. A few reckless minutes can create consequences that last far longer than the chase itself. At around 7:00 p.m. in Lufkin, Texas, USA, an officer noticed a silver Chevrolet Cruze enter oncoming traffic. Moments later, another driver signaled that something was wrong. Police attempted a traffic stop, but the driver, identified as 27-year-old Travis Thornton, refused to pull over. Thornton sped away at more than 80 mph, forcing police to end the first pursuit after 11 minutes because of unsafe road conditions. Officers then learned the Cruze had allegedly been taken from a repair shop. Hours later, around 2:00 a.m., the same officer spotted the vehicle again, and Thornton once again chose to run. This time reaching more than 100 mph. >> [screaming] >> After encountering a locked gate at a weigh station, Thornton reportedly backed into a patrol car and escaped across the grass. Officers later deployed stop sticks, damaging three tires and slowing him to about 30 mph. With heavier traffic ahead, a PIT-certified officer saw the opportunity and brought the pursuit to a controlled stop near Angelina Animal Hospital. 17 minutes after the second pursuit began, Thornton was taken into custody without further incident. Police said he faced charges related to unauthorized use of a vehicle and evading arrest. Two chances to stop, two decisions to keep running, and in the end, the road still led to the same place, accountability. >> You're pretty desperate, man. You endangered a lot of people's lives earlier, and again. >> On June 3rd, 2024, at 9:49 a.m. on Interstate 4 in Florida, USA, Trooper Brandon Cano clocked a burgundy sedan traveling at 112 mph in a 70-mph zone. When he activated his lights and siren, the driver, later identified as Wilford Ruiz, refused to stop. In seconds, a speeding violation became something far more dangerous. >> Yeah, 206 we are on the 10-31. >> The sedan raced westbound at around 120 mph, weaving through traffic and even striking a box truck before continuing. Several FHP units joined the pursuit as Ruiz allegedly used the shoulder and repeatedly came close to other vehicles. At those speeds, every passing second carried a risk not just for him, but for everyone sharing the highway. >> 344 >> What do you have your heading on? >> Yeah, we're going to be 87 in a little bit. >> Copy, passing mile marker 86. >> I'm about 98. I'm driving a little bit more behind it, motor. >> Near mile marker 86, Trooper Donakowski helped slow the sedan enough for Cano to perform a PIT maneuver. The car struck a concrete barrier, but still attempted to escape. Troopers then used their patrol vehicles to contain it, finally ending the pursuit after a tense series of maneuvers. >> 10-4 >> I copy 10-4, we're 10-20. >> I'm at mile marker 86. >> 86 >> I copy 10-4, I'M AT THE 86. >> RUIZ WAS TAKEN INTO CUSTODY AT 10:11 A.M. and received immediate medical attention after showing signs of distress. During a later search, troopers reported finding multiple IDs and credit cards, suspected cocaine, a digital scale, and small plastic bags. Ruiz was medically cleared before being booked into Orange County Jail. One reckless decision had grown into a long list of consequences, proof that trying to escape often creates a much bigger problem than the one left behind. On August 2nd, 2021, in the early morning on I-20 West in Georgia, USA, a state patrol trooper spotted a blue Chevrolet Camaro traveling at more than 100 mph. When the trooper attempted a traffic stop, the driver, identified as Taiwan Devon Wyatt, refused to pull over. A quiet morning suddenly turned into a high-speed pursuit. Wyatt continued through traffic, using the shoulder and ignoring repeated attempts [music] to stop him. Troopers tried several PIT maneuvers, waiting for the right moment to safely bring the Camaro under control. At that speed, every extra mile only increased the risk for everyone on the highway. >> Near exit 26 at the Liberty Road ramp, troopers finally performed a successful PIT, disabling the Camaro, but Wyatt still wasn't ready to surrender. He left the vehicle and ran across the lanes of I-20, turning a vehicle pursuit into a dangerous chase on foot. Villa Rica officers quickly caught Wyatt and took him into custody. Authorities later confirmed the Camaro had been reported stolen from a dealership in Union County. What began with excessive speed ended in an arrest and more serious consequences. A reminder that a few moments of reckless freedom can carry a much longer price. Behind every flashing light, every pursuit, and every tense encounter is a reminder that one decision can change everything in a matter of seconds. These moments are more than dramatic footage.
