All right. Good afternoon and thank you guys for coming. Uh this is a pretty incredible long drug investigation that went on. I want to introduce everybody that participated in this. Uh Homeland Security Special Agent Randy Richardson, DEA Supervisory Special Agent Nishant Tolshi, Central Florida HIDTA Director A.J. Collazo, Ormond Beach Police Chief Jesse Godfrey, my partner in crime Lake County Sheriff Peyton Grinnell, FBI Special Agent Michael Jeffcoat, Chief Assistant State Attorney John Reed, Port Orange Police Chief Manuel Marino, DeLand Assistant Police Chief Adam Kistart, and DBPD's Deputy Police Chief Jennifer Witt. So, if you'll bear with me for a minute, there's a lot of stuff going on here. You got in August 22nd, VBI, Volusia Bureau of Investigation, and the West Volusia Narcotics Task Force, along with the Lake County Sheriff's Office, FBI, DEA, and Homeland Security began a multi-jurisdictional investigation into fentanyl and cocaine trafficking in our area here. Uh the group was led by Drew Daley, who you see up on top of there, which hence the name of the operation, Operation Daily Dose. He was supplied by Preston Ingram and Vernon Woodward. These drug traffickers were responsible for distributing kilo amounts of fentanyl in Volusia and Lake County on a monthly basis. And when you say kilos, we're not talking 1 kilo, conservative estimate, 6 to 8 kilos a month have been coming in and and destroying our counties since this investigation began. Identified members of the organization had been previously arrested for numerous crimes, including narcotics violations, firearms, weapons violations, violent crimes against persons. Through months of surveillance, search warrants, intelligence gathering, and nine Title III oral intercepts, VBI agents were able to infiltrate and dismantle the Drew Daley, Preston Ingram, and Vernon Woodward drug operations. Last week, on June 8th, we had a major round-up where we executed nine warrants. Helping us do that was DBPD SWAT team, Southeast Regional SWAT team, Flagler County SWAT team, Seminole County SWAT team, and of course, Lake County SWAT team. Ormond Beach and Edgewater and and the land also played a key role in part of our county-wide narcotics investigation. Over the course of the investigation, over 41 arrests have been made for various charges to include armed trafficking in fentanyl, armed trafficking in methamphetamine, armed trafficking in cocaine, armed trafficking in MDA, armed trafficking in heroin, possession of firearm by a convicted felon, conspiracy to introduce contraband into a county intake facility, trafficking in stolen property, as well as numerous crimes. We seized 2,300 g of fentanyl. Mathematically, that equates to over 1.5 million doses that hit the streets of our community. To give you an example and and HIDTA HIDTA task force was fantastic with the report they put out for us yesterday. 1 kilo of fentanyl produces 673,000 doses. Compare that to a kilo of cocaine which produces 5,500 doses and a kilo of heroin which produces 142,000 doses. So, on top of the fentanyl, we seized 52 g of heroin, 180 opioid pills, 138 g of cocaine, 422 g of meth, 42 g of MDA, 6 and 1/2 lb of marijuana, 11 firearms, one of which was stolen, and over $100,000 in cash. So, like I said, there I cannot thank all these folks up here behind me uh without their leadership and without the excellence of our our folks that work for us, we would never been able to have infiltrated this group. You know, the question's going to be, "Where is the fentanyl coming from?" It's coming from everywhere else it comes from. China sends the precursors in to Mexico, and those labs ship it in to us. You know, I think we're pretty confident in saying that. So, when you ask where this is coming from and how this is happening, when you have a porous border, this is what comes into our community. And when you look at the overdose deaths and the destruction that this is causing, these I I I could not be prouder of the folks behind me and the folks behind you who worked on this since August 22nd since August of 2022 to bring this into in in the in the conclusion. Uh you just this morning we're still out there hunting over the last night we picked up two of the wanted individuals. Lake County Sheriff's Office picked up another picked off another guy this morning that we have all these warrants for. So, with that, I'm going to ask Sheriff Granados step up here and say a few words. I don't know where he went. Oh, there you are. Thank you, Sheriff. Uh good morning, everybody. Um we're we're very fortunate that we have here in Central Florida and really throughout the state uh the the agreements in place between local, state, and the federal law enforcement agencies to combat this crisis. And it is a crisis. And and what I want to stress here is the the men, the agencies you see represented up here today are going to continue to attack this problem from an enforcement level, but we need our parents and our grandparents out there to talk to their kids and their grandkids about the dangers of this fentanyl. That the days of smoking the innocent joint, it's really Russian roulette today. So, what we need is is our citizens out there talking with their kids and their grandkids and letting them know when they go to these parties on a Friday night that that innocent toke off of a marijuana cigarette might be the last thing that they ever do. But, I will tell you that I couldn't be more proud of the agencies and the cooperation that we have in attacking this crisis, especially with the leadership of our governor and our attorney general supporting the Florida sheriffs to keep the crime rate low in this state, but we need our citizens' help. Thank you, everybody. Appreciate it. Thank you, Sheriff. Ormond Beach Chief Jesse Godfrey, Chief. Thank you, Sheriff. Um on behalf of Mayor Bill Partington and the 45,000 residents of Ormond Beach, I just want to say thank you to everybody standing behind me. Um Sheriff, a lot of the credit goes to you and your staff, your narcotics investigators. They're the silent guardians. They're not here. You're not going to see their faces, but they're out there. And I'm so appreciative that they are for our citizens. I would also say that, you know, even the your your admin staff that helped with all this mountains of paperwork and mountains of work that gets done that the average citizen has no clue uh what what your investigators are doing uh while you sleep at night. So, on behalf of the citizens of Ormond Beach, I just want to say thank you so much for this. Everybody, uh all the different ones, DEA, FBI, HSI, VBI, ABC, 123. Thank you so much, cuz this is important. It's it's a big deal. So, thank you so much. Spoken like a true narcotics lieutenant from Daytona Beach when I was there. What's on the table here in front of us is what we recovered in one of the search warrants. It's a fentanyl press. Some of the things that we discovered was uh during the search, uh, warrants were PVC piping where they store their drugs inside and then they bury it. Uh, they recovered firearms and drugs from behind one of what we'll call a stash house in, uh, Orange City where they would hide the guns and the drugs in trees out back knowing that if they hit the place with a search warrant, they wouldn't find any of their drugs inside of the house, they would be outside. So, there was a lot of intelligence gathering. These guys aren't that smart, but they're also not that stupid. Uh, but it's it it is really good. We we feel we've made an impact. Now, we all know it's going to keep on coming in, but I think we we really made an impact on our community. You know, here in Volusia County, we've been running at 300 over deaths a year and probably over 10 times that amount of overdoses and they run the ages of 17 to 77. So, we all know what a scourge this is, but, you know, we're going to keep it up our end, but we do need people to secure that goddamn border and make it a little bit more difficult to get the narcotics in here. And I won't editorialize any further. Does anybody have any questions for any of us? Will anybody be in charge with like murder or anything further than just the The charges are just just what I just read. They're charged with arm trafficking and fentanyl, arm trafficking meth, arm trafficking cocaine, use of a two-way communication device. Everything I read if if out there, that's what all the charges it's all the charges included. Some of these people there'll be a life sentence for them because this this is their second time or their third time down. This time with the amount of weight and just everything that went on with the wiretaps and the search warrants and some of them in their own words, they'll they'll they won't be seeing the light of day for for quite a while. And I think we've seen this we've showed you press conferences before where they're selling fentanyl in the parking lot of a Winn-Dixie in Deltona and people are overdosing two spots away and they just keep on selling. So, there should be no sympathy or no kind of anything for what these scumbags are doing to our community. You said you picked up some yesterday and this morning or something like that. Picked up We have warrants. Yeah, if you could see on the board there, you could see arrested and who's outstanding. Last night in Deltona, we picked up two folks who had warrants on this morning. Lake County picked up a third person. So, we're out there actively Just cuz there's a warrant out there, we're actively coming coming to get you. There's nowhere to hide. And they can't hide from an arrest warrant. How's it feel to get the stuff off the streets, this amount of You know, you're like a kid at Christmas time cuz they tell you the narcotics guys We know we talk all the time. Hey, we got something we think is going to be really big. And then they give you these little snippets of of information, and then we get to the point where we are now. Where everybody has to get together because now you have nine search warrants. You got to execute them all simultaneously. You know, you have all these arrest warrants. You're trying to pick people off. And that's why it's so important that you look up here and you hear there's this disjointed things about law enforcement. They really don't know what's going on. That that's [ __ ] That's that's a That's nothing but a fairy tale. We're all talking all the time cuz we all have the same mission. The mission is to keep you keep our communities as safe as possible. And echo off of what Sheriff Bernal said, we have a an absolutely fabulous attorney general who has been the tip of the spear along with Sheriff Lemma in in Seminole County to combat the scourge of fentanyl. And of course the governor has done everything he can to make sure law enforcement has all the resources that they have to fight this. Wow, what a quiet audience. Yes, sir. How old or before are you doing against this style of activities because we appreciate that this problem of the things for the traffic is growing in the last years. It is. It is, you know, I've been to the border twice and you watch it. It's non-stop. It is coming through It's It's not only coming through the southern border, it's coming through the north, it comes through the mail. You can You can order fentanyl from China and it'll get delivered to you in the mail. We We had an incident like that with a young man here bringing it in and then reselling it throughout the rest of the country online. The problem comes down to, you know, in my opinion it's a three-legged stool. You have to have a treatment. You got to have treatment. You got to stop it before it gets here and then law enforcement has to do their job. Now, this is probably a little controversial, but I'll say it anyway. If a terrorist camp was established in Mexico and they about 80 of them came up and blew themselves up at the speedway, we would be blowing that terrorist camp off the face of the earth. But yet these these me- mega drug labs in Mexico are allowed to produce methamphetamine and fentanyl and other synthetic drugs and just ship them into our border and we sit on our hands thinking that this arrest is going to change the world. It's not. For a short time it'll dry up in Volusia County. But somebody else will step up to the plate because the money is is their money's there and and they know the product's just going to keep on flooding in. So, until you go back to the source and wipe it off the map, we're going to continually chase our tail. That's a Chip-ism. Take it for what it's worth. I know it's kind of off kilter, but like the the drugs that have been washed up, do you know if that's been that was cocaine or fentanyl or where that Uh it was cocaine. And then again, you don't know why it was washing up, you know, did a sub sink out there? You know, did a did a boat did what did they get hunky or henky and think somebody was out there and throw it overboard? We don't know. The big joke is that my beach guys are making more seizures than my narcotics guys. Just kidding. Just kidding on that topic. Kyle's not here, is he? Boats It's It's say say it's coming in everywhere. Boats, planes, cars, trucks. Submarines. I mean, look at the the last seizure of fentanyl that you came in that they picked off. Was it a Was it a avocados or something? You know, it's coming in through the produce that they see. And and they're not screening everything down there. There's one bridge, if memory serves me correctly, that that leads from McAllen, Texas, into Mexico with that all the produce comes through. They They damn near don't stop every truck. They can't stop every truck. But, that's how it comes in. They put it in They'll get it in any way they can. Cuz they know what the profits are. Human trafficking is 100% profit. You pay your money up front. They don't care whether they get in the United States or not. Drug trafficking's a little bit different. It's a little bit more riskier. So, if they don't get their profit, somebody's dying. Somebody's going to get killed over. And we've had that happen uh in in a connection between Marion County, Putnam County, and us. You know, the drugs were seized. Mexican cartel wanted the pay the person paid to pay for what they did. They took a shooting team out of Seville, went into Marion County, and shot up the folks who did who who lost the stuff that have to they to the law enforcement. So, this is this is no joke. You can't get a life insurance policy, and you see all the guns that are seized. We seized 11 firearms. You can't be a drug dealer without a gun. All right. Thank you, guys. Thank you. Thank you, Sheriff. Thank you. Thank you, guys, for being here.
