[Music] the guy she invites over is 29 years old and during the course of a couple nights uh they engage in sex uh these guys that I'm about to introduce from our child exploitation unit are able to get all of the text messages and I have to tell you in 36 years of policing and soon to be 60 years old those text message that he was sending her I've never read anything like that it was like a porn movie what he was saying he did and what he was going to do the next time uh that they met up and he's in jail and hopefully he will never see the light of day then we had the 11-year-old who thought it would be kind of cool because YouTube had prank 911 out there and she thought this would be a great idea I will put I will text 911 and say that my girlfriend got kidnapped and she was very specific in what she did we're passing mile marker whatever we're passing this mile marker we're getting off at the edgew exit it's a white van with a white male in it blonde hair he's armed with a gun my friend's tied up and this went on 4 30 minutes before we were able to trace the phone back to where she was from and thousands and thousands of dollars were spent chasing this hoax that we get with school going back in with fortify Florida somebody will get in there 2 o'clock in the morning and say just got a got a word there's going to be an active shooter at Deltona High well that means we have to kick in high gear because we want to be able to make sure the school can safely open we have all kind of resources there and be able to tell everybody this was a hoax of course we track that person down and they get arrested and their thing was well it's all a joke I didn't know I get arrested so there's dangers on both ends of it you really got to be aware of what your child is doing you got to be a helicopter parent but we also know every one of us in the room that are parents and kids put your fingers in your ears for this we all did things that our parents never know that we did so as much as we try you really can't stop everything but the objective of this is when you leave here tonight you're a little bit smarter about what's going on because some things are going to be eye opening some things you may know some resources you may not have been aware of we're going to get that so I applaud the parents who brought their kids with them I think you guys really need to hear this because at the end of the day some of these messages are directed directly toward you because you're going to see things and get messages that we're not going to know as parents but when you get them you need to notify your parents there's no embarrassment to saying I got this text message where do I go from here so with that I am going to introduce oh you're back there um my name is Lance L I am a detective with the sheriff's office I have been with the Sheriff's Office since 2004 and most of my time has been um in investigations before I talk to you about what the child exploitation unit does I'm going to show you um a real short video about some of the work that we do and then we'll talk about what our unit does internet crimes against children things you can do cases we're seeing and stuff like that we'll see if this will play for me how late can you go outside and you still me just say your mom's out of the night my mom drun already [Music] we got him his hands up sh office hands up out of the truck do it now get on the ground turn towards me Sheriff's Office stop right now put it in park hands up hands up both hands out the window or I'm going to set my dog you're going to get [Music] bit get against the wall face the wall face the wall sh put your hands up put your hands up don't move don't move turn around turn around turn around all right you have see my car okay so what you saw there um those were videos body worn camera videos and things like that from our chatter Ops when you hear on the news or you see the videos about people that are traveling um to meet children for sex and things like that this is the unit everybody that's here tonight this is the unit that does those things so everybody there those were that was in those videos thought they were traveling to meet a child for sex instead they were talking to an undercover officer um or Deputy depending on on who comes out and because we do get help from other agencies with these things um but they were all traveling to meet a child for sex and the ages are very young and what the chats are and stuff like that without going into too many details um and instead they were luckily apprehended and arrested the child exploitation unit what we do at the sheriff's office we're responsible for all juvenile sex crimes in unincorporated valua and the contract cities Deltona DeBerry um any sex offense involving somebody a juvenile 17 and under or crimes that involve the use of Technology that U somebody's trying to use technology to exploit a child or entice a child um trying to get photos or videos from a child or trying to have a child travel for sex or to meet him um that's all things that we do iak we'll talk a little bit about that that is internet crimes against children those crimes are investigated by detectives in the child exploitation unit and then attached to our unit is the digital forensics unit um they're a group of detectives that all they do is process electronic devices so cell phones tablets um even cars Vehicles things like that so when we do these Ops or we do a search warrant at a house for somebody transmitting sending or receiving child pornography uh our digital forensics unit processes everything on the devices and finds the evidence that we need iak internet crimes against children um is a task force it's a it's a task force program throughout all the United States uh and it's made up of prosecutors State local federal law enforcement um different agencies and the purpose of the iak task force is to um design responses to crimes involving technology and things like that that are geared towards um people using technology to to try to victimize children they provide funding training public presentations and things like that uh they assist with purchases for forensics they assist with getting the stuff that we need for the operations and uh various things um the valua sheriff's office is part of the north Florida iak task force which is actually hosted in Gainesville um and the task force works with the national Center for missing and exploited children and I'll talk a little bit about them they operate what we call a cyber tip line the Cyber tip line is um it's a hotline and an electronic reporting system where companies such as Facebook Snapchat um companies like that Tik Tok Google make reports about either child pornography being transmitted or somebody trying to entice a child for sex could be something related to human trafficking things of that nature they all get reported to the National Center for Miss and exploited children they are a global Clearing House for this stuff so they don't just do the United States they do the entire planet and they send these cyber tips out to wherever they need to go um throughout the globe the countries that participate 99.5 % of the tips that the national Center receives is for child sexual abuse material also known as child pornography um that is the bulk of what they are processing right now the tips that they are receiving and 2002 they received 32 million reports so just last year alone 32 milon 99.5% of those just related to child pornography child and sexual abuse material and that could be somebody that could be an adult transmitting something that could be an adult uploading child abuse or exchanging it with somebody or that could be an adult trying to get photos and videos from a young child the reports generated by these companies and that gets reported and that's where you get the 32 million for the sheriff's office so far for this year we get about 65 on average 65 reports per month that just comes in from the national Center for missing exploited children that does not include reports that are generated by deputies if you call for law enforcement and you have a case or you have somebody talking to your son or your daughter on their phone or their tablet that's not included in the 65 these 65 on average come just from the national Center for missing and exploited children the best tool we have to prevent internet crimes against children is education Internet safety for children requires a dedicated effort to learn how child Predators behave online and how to work in collaboration with the iak task force to protect children from potential risks the internet's a dangerous place and people who are out there seeking to abuse children seeking to exploit children are everywhere there's nowhere to hide from them you're not going to get away from them and you can't bury your head in the sand and hope it doesn't happen to you if a child has kind of unfettered access to the internet the possibility or the probability that they will see adult content is high tragically at the moment what we are seeing globally is a rise and extortion of our kids this is playing out in a far more Sinister way than anything that I've dealt with in my law enforcement career where we are losing kids that're taking their lives because of sextortion I know that um through my talks I get a lot of people that tell me it could never happen to my kid it could never ever happened cuz my kid's a good kid and I found it could happen to anyone and the more that I talk to people I want them to understand my kid was a straight A student he was Eagle Scout he was all that and it still happened to them you cannot assume that it won't happen to your child well there are two types of sextortion sexually based sextortion where all they want is more images or more contact with the victim then there's Financial sextortion where that we want the victim who has sent explicit images to send them money or they will be exposing that image or video to their friends and network the child who is a victim of financial sextortion is typically a male age 14 to 17 the child who is a victim of sexually based extortion is typically a female aged 10 to 17 this type of crme really crosses all socioeconomic statuses so it is not the stereotypical offender that you might have heard or might think it really could be anyone unfortunately criminals have migrated to this space online in order to take advantage of the real vulnerabilities of young people they want to connect they they want for for opportunity their want for you know creating connections of their own um and often they're looking for validation and this makes some very easy targets for criminals looking for vulnerabilities to be able to access the life of of an innocent young person what is the best way to keep our kids safe online and the answer to that is to learn their language learn what they're doing online there's never like too young of an age to start I used to be a first grade teacher and my first graders were on Tik Tok Instagram and Snapchat so there's never you know a bad age to start discussing this and what's okay to share online and what's not it's really about having an open dialogue it's about arming your child with the ability to say no with the ability to protect themselves technology is not the problem technology is neutral it is a tool that can be used for great good as well as harm so for kids if you receive a nude photo or video you don't know where it came from or it came as a joke don't be part of the problem don't perpetuate the cycle of cyber bullying and don't add to it there's a very strong link between cyber bullying and the sexting issue as well often times they go hand inand you know often times uh when it comes to nudes right and being a female and working with female youth um you know there is that pressure or that perceive pressure um that my peers are sexting that everyone is doing it it's very understandable why um you know sending an image like that is something you might want to do um so but a couple things I would say about it number one is that most youth are not doing that so if your reason for sending a sex image sending a nude to someone else is that you think everyone else is doing it research study after research study shows us that less than half usually about 20% of kids have ever sent an image like that if your being exx sorted online online you should report that individual to the platform or the app where they're contacting you but it's important that you don't delete your profile or your messages because there could be really important information for law enforcement to use in their case end all contact with whoever uh you are talking with um try to Archive any of the messages that you have as best as you can and then report it to somebody whether it is a friend whether it is a counselor a teacher uh your mother your father uh and then after that report to the police the main thing that the police need to do an investigation is the users names and passwords let's commit to staying Vigilant and working together to keep our children safe online whether you're a law enforcement officer a social worker a parent or a young person yourself take steps to learn and teach others about Internet safety together we can create create a safer digital environment for children for more information and resources please visit www. iak task force.org so I think the biggest takeaway from that video is you have got to talk to your kids and make sure that they understand um that they need to come to you if somebody reaches out to them on the Internet and asks for something bad uh we see a lot of cases where the children aren't telling the parents the parents are going through self C phones tablets or catching the kids on a school computer or on their home computer doing something that they aren't supposed to be doing um and the kids aren't coming forward until and the parents until it's too late cases that we've actually worked uh in our unit we had an 8-year-old um that was asked to send nude VI videos and photos um and she did at 8 she was also asked to go in her mother's purse and send her mother's driver's license a picture of her mother's driver's license and she did um for this particular case this eight-year-old met the suspect in a video game on the Play Store designed for children you have to pay attention to all these apps just because they are geared towards children or they sell themselves as a child's game the adults are in these games also because they know that's where they need to go to find kids you go to a child's game this one um was in a child's game that was operated by a company overseas we couldn't do anything with it we had a sex offender uh on Instagram who was messaging child after child after child female children all over the world anybody that he saw on Instagram he would just add and he had one phrase he just H I saw your picture I think you're cute add me and you would be amazed how many people added him back he wasn't caught until he actually sent sex toys to a child in another state here in the US but until he was caught all the children that he was talking to he was asking for photos and videos from all these young girls and he was receiving stuff and then he got a little bit Bolder and then actually started mailing them stuff to their home address so again he got the home address from the child and was brazing enough to go ahead and send adult toys to her house um in another state we had an adult male that met a 15-year-old on Tik Tok uh they started a conversation he lied about his age they realiz they were both in state he paid for an Uber for her to drive up from her home county they had sex in our County after they were done he kicked her out of the house told her she was responsible to find her own way back home and left her out on the street she called law enforcement but did not tell us everything until she got home back to P County he was identified he was arrested that case is still pending we already talked about adults meeting children on games and stuff they're also meeting them on live streaming services we see a lot of young kids that are on Twitch and Omegle which is live streaming and people the kids are live streaming themselves playing video games for others to watch adults are in the live streams and they're asking children to do various things for them um and we see it all the time where they will ask young females to do certain challenges do certain dances for me whether they're just trying to get the girls either more comfortable or to position their body in various poses that they want to see and it's all on live stream we don't know about it until other people either a report it or they ask for something a little bit more than just the challenges and and the dances sex tortion cases are on the rise here in this County you all definitely need to be aware of that and what we mean by sextortion is children are exchanging nudes with other people online and they think that they're either in some type of relationship or they have an internet boyfriend or an internet girlfriend friend or something like that and this goes on for a while until the person on the other end gets the photos and the videos that they want and then when they get everything that they want they say do more for me and if the child refuses they're threatening to post their photos or videos that they already have on their social media accounts threatening to tag the parents threatening to tag the schools friends family because the children are now friends with the suspect while this is going on they have access to all their friends lists so they know who their friends are who their family are they've been talking them to them for a few months now and then when they say now you're going to make this for me you're going to make this video for me and the child refuses they are threatening to expose them if they don't do more there have been suicides over this stuff um here in the US none in our area so far thank God but there have been suicides because the kids do not know what to do we just got a case the other day of a 15-year-old boy he was exchanging nudes with somebody we're working on that now to see if we can figure it out um who the other person is but those cases are on the rise numerous reports that we get through the Cyber tip line from the national Center for missing and exploited Children of Children uploading videos of themselves to Tik Tok and YouTube completely nude exposing their genitals putting in on Tik Tok or YouTube they're taking the phones the tablets into the bathroom into the shower making videos adding soundtracks they don't know they're sending them to other people but they are uploading them to these signs once they're out there they're out there um Tik Tok and YouTube will report it but there is always a delay they always months behind when the actual video is uploaded unless somebody notifies them real quick for all these different cases um there's not a common app there's no single app that you need to watch out for you need to watch out for all of them honestly a lot of these apps all have common messaging capability where they can send and receive messages with somebody the game for the 8-year-old had messaging she could communicate with this person they talked about moving their conversation somewhere else the extortion cases that we see some of these are starting on Xbox and Playstation even the gaming consoles why because Xbox and Playstation have apps you can put the apps on your phone and you can chat with the friends that you make in the game so nothing is immune to it I make the analogy that these apps are like giving house keys out to your house if you put these apps on your children's phones or tablets or they install it without you knowing in some instances these are actually becoming keys to houses uh where people are going to your house to meet children and we have had that happen some resources and Marina from Department of Children and Families is going to talk more later but uh the QR codes are there the website is there but on the table over there where you see the snack of of blue books um all this stuff will be over there on that table so you don't have to worry about paying taking a photo or using the QR code now DFI now digital Futures initiative I like this this particular site because they have an app and website directory they update it for every school year and they'll tell you at the bottom updated for the calendar year and they list all these apps that you parents grandparents you all need to know about and then they go into a discussion on why you need to know about it what does this app do and why is it important for you to know what it does the have a parents Tech control on there um if you're interested in looking at monitoring software there are things that are out there there's be more information over there on the table but there are programs out there that you can install on cell phones and tablets to monitor what's going on they do a parental tech guide it's very detailed and they tell you the different apps that are out there you just have to research what works best for you there isn't one blanket one that we recommend because it depends if you have an iPhone an Android depending on the software updates things like that this guide will go into a little bit more but also research too like your cell phone carriers Verizon at they have parental control apps too so you just kind of have to see what's going to work best for your situation they also have stuff for like vaping and I think Marina will talk about that later but there's more guides uh that they have National Center for missing kids um they have a whole series online called net smarts and Internet safety uh but they have a lot of other resources about uh out there in videos videos activities for kids more presentations more handouts things like that um but a lot of information is on their website they have information you can see up there in the menu for sextortion and things like that you will find more information on their website you may see something on DFI now that you like or you may see something on nickm that you think is a little bit better um more stuff for various age groups are on the national Center for missed and exploited children site protect young eyes this is one that we put out in a press release a while ago after the uh this mail from Coco traveled up for the 12-year-old uh this is another comprehensive app guide you can um go to the website you can research apps on the phone if you're not sure if you're seeing something on your kid's phone or tablet and you don't know what it is and you're not finding it in these directories or these guides just open the app up you won't hurt anything and there's probably going to be a splash screen that's going to tell you what the app is and then just do what everybody else does go to Google and see what the app is what it does and things like that these guides may not have all of them and like I said like the children's games and stuff probably aren't going to be in here but if you see something you don't recognize open it up and and see what it is last one is the sheriff's office website uh we're going to have information for Internet safety on there also down at the bottom there's a sexual offender search sexual predator search for what you can see uh you know who's in your house or um in your area where you live but don't Focus too much on just sexual predators and and offenders a lot of the cases that we work they're not sexual offenders they're not sexual predators they're people that you would not ordinarily think uh that this is something that they would do but it is good to know who lives around you and stuff like that that's the end for me I would just say for all the children uh in here and I know Marina will talk a little bit more if somebody is messaging you if somebody's asking you for something on the Internet and you don't know who that person is please reach out to your parents make sure that they know there are a lot of bad people out there and your friends that are online may not be your actual friends in real life with that I'll turn it back over to the sheriff thank you Lance we'll get questions from me after DCF goes uh I just want to point this out if you get a chance tonight to when you go home to Google something these people that are online they're also violent okay uh couple years ago FBI goes to serve a search warrant on what they believe is somebody downloading child porn in South Florida both agents get killed so that made us readjust the way that we serve these because they weren't going there to make an arrest they were going there to seize his computer and his cell phone and any hard drives that he had fast forward to yesterday the FBI and Australian officials locked up 43 people from the United States and Australia in a massive child pornography ring and every one of them that were arrested had an expertise in it so they knew how to cover their digital Footprints and they knew what they were doing so when we're sitting here talking about this remember and I say this to the kids this is global this isn't your nextdoor neighbor this isn't your friend in school when you get on there and you get approached this is global these people know what they're doing they know what they want and they're looking to exploit somebody and with that DCF I know they they I am impressed every time they do this presentation you talk about passion this is Passion no stress sent me up there good evening everybody my name's Marina Anderson I do work for the Department of Children and Families I'm the human trafficking prevention consultant for the State of Florida so we're going to piggy back on that and learn more and expand our knowledge base can't stress enough what the sheriff just said it is a global pandemic in itself sorry I should have done that already switched those PowerPoints over um it can be anyone right it could be your your next door neighbor it could be a family member it could be um someone within your same Community same state different state different country right it could be anyone it's a worldwide web right they could be from anywhere and we see that ongoingly also it's not just a female issue it's a female male May identify in a different way they don't care right they're master manipulators so they're trying to get to know you get um get to know your family try to figure out what is where's there a crack right we all have vulnerabilities every single one of us in this room right now has a vulnerability our vulnerabilities may look a little bit different than they were when they we are 12 13 14 15 years old but we still have them right and traffickers or people that you SE sex sters people that are involved in online solicitation are trying to find that crack right what it could be is a parents going through a divorce are you having issues at school did you recently break up with a boyfriend or girlfriend um are you experimenting with substances you know there's all different kinds of vulnerabilities but they're there to pick it and they invest time you know a lot of times when I work with kiddos they'll say well you know I've been talking to this person for six months I've been talking to this person for a year and you know they never have said anything or did anything or asked for anything inappropriate because that's that's not the only kid they're talking to right they're talking to hundreds of other kids so you know it's it's not that big of a deal maybe they're not ready maybe they know they can't pressure them too soon because they're not going to do what they ask them to do they're trying to build that relationship build that friendship build that Bond so what does trafficking look like this video will explain a little bit of thinking back on those vulnerabilities kids that run away are at a much higher rate of possibly getting involved in trafficking it doesn't mean that your aonor Ral students not going to get involved either but we know that they are at a higher rate statistically they say that a kid that runs is going to be approached within 72 hours of being on the Run by trafficker well that's shocking statistics in itself but we know in Florida it's within hours and depending on where you live in Florida it could be minutes because traffickers are at the local bus stops they're at the truck stops they are at um places where kids often run to the parks the corner stores because they're waiting they know there's that vulnerability the vulnerability is they're on the run right their vulnerability is they don't have a plan they don't have money they don't have food they don't have clothes they don't know where they're going to sleep that's the vulnerability so they're waiting to say hey what can I do to help you but it's not for free right they don't have a money they don't have a plan but they have their body right so often times there's exchange for sexual acts for that ride out of town or for that money or for that food so when you watch this video really pay attention and think about the vulnerabilities and think of where maybe you could have been in certain situations where you saw something and maybe didn't really realize what it was and didn't know what to do and we're going to talk about at the end of this presentation on what you can do if you see something that doesn't set right with you hey where you heading you ladies from around here actually I'm from Florida Florida are we paying you to talk or to drive my [Music] bad when I get out from work why did this still in the thing you don't help around the no you do not and I my you know what I so go get it not her she's going to make us some money are you hungry my man takes great care of us I said where you been not what do I think here the question it's also important that you understand that just as I said victims could be male female identifyed in a different way traffickers can be male female or identifying a different way often times even if it's a male trafficker often times they'll have females that are also um working with them as you saw in that video this is going to be a challenge right here let's see there we go um as you saw in the video so if a male would approach her at that point she was scared she was alone it was dark she didn't have a plan most likely that male would have been pretty intimidating I'm a Pacer so I'm probably going to walk all around here but I feel like I'm ignoring the people on this side of the room so they you know probably would have felt a little intimidated right maybe she' been a little scared so the female approaching a female a young female she felt more secure right like this person's going to help her she saw herself maybe in that person so again traffickers know this so often times they'll have females working for them to approach I'll give you an example we had a case not too far from here out of putham County and this was several years ago and we had a child that was had aspirations to be a model mom was a photographer or um and was posting a lot of pictures on Instagram we talked about that right the posting on the social media platforms um she was trying to really um have a lot of activity on those pages to hopefully have a modeling agency pick this child up so a modeling agency approached the mother said that you know they really felt like this child had what it takes to be you know the Next Top Model right so they were going to um have a modeling shoot and the modeling shoot was going to be in New York well Mom couldn't afford to go to New York the female that approached them was a model herself had a portfolio and said I can take care of her she can stay with me I'll never let her leave my site and I I'll take her to New York do you think they went to New York no no that is correct they did not go to New York so how easy that is because again that what was that vulnerability they're praying on those and our master manipulators and praying on that so we know sex explotion um sexual exploit a prays on that vulnerability that differential power trust to profit monetarily socially from labor and Commercial sex work of another person we began investigating cases in 2009 we only had 43 cases back then now a lot of people say is it happened in more than it was back in 2009 yes because of the rise of the internet yes because the rise of apps and and um dating apps and gaming apps but also because of awareness right we wasn't doing awareness events in 2009 we wouldn't really out there trying to explain to people what trafficking looks like so the more advocacy that we do the more talking to parents talking to kids talking to Educators Health Care law enforcement being trained social services being trained Hospitality people receiving training you're going to see those numbers increase so we investigate all areas of trafficking it or it doesn't matter if it's sexual online exploitation it could be um gang Le trafficking it could be trafficker Le trafficking it could be familial meaning it's a family member or caregiver or it could be survival we know that there are vulnerable populations but I don't want to get stuck on this because as you saw in a lot of the videos um prior you know anybody can become a victim I cannot stress that enough majority of our cases that we have are on community kids meaning they're your kiddos they're not Foster care youth they're not kids that are in care a lot of the cases that we have we don't even have priors on them they're not known to Social Services they're truly your kids they're our kids we've had several cases on our own employees kids law enforcement firefighters clergy faith-based Community because they're all vulnerable right they're all there a lot of people that live in more rural areas cuz their guards are down right yeah I cannot tell you how many times that I've talked to people even today today that they ask oh FL this must be a such an issue in Florida because of all the the waterways that we have I'm like we don't have to worry about the waterways we have to worry about your children sitting in front of the computer screens that's what we see here I'm not saying that international trafficking doesn't happen and it looks completely different than what we see here but what we see is the online exploitation we see your children we see people in rural areas that think trafficking doesn't happen here we don't have prostitution we don't have these issues that's a Jacksonville Miami Tampa problem it's an everybody everybody's problem right because if you have internet if you have Wi-Fi if you have anything with a messaging app even Pinterest we had cases where kids were being contact it on Pinterest because if it has a messaging feature they can contact your kids so you need to have those conversations other risk factors again if they're under the a age of 18 walk to the school or to the store alone sometimes feel insecure owns or have access to social media desires to develop a romantic relationship feel misunderstood sometimes feel their parents don't care W more Independence test boundaries and take risk if you're honest with yourself I probably just described you as a 15 and 16y old a lot of us desire those same thing it's just a different world so traffickers and people that use sextortion to get to kids is going to use a three-level approach and it doesn't matter if they're meeting them in person or if they're meeting them online it starts with The Lure the trust and the payback now there's other instances that may happen we've had several cases where we've had hackers hack into um Snapchat rolles your camera rolls send a picture that they know that kid wouldn't went out and said hey if you don't send me more graphic images I'm going to post this picture to your social media so that is another way that they will lure kids to do things that they wish because they you know image is everything right they don't want those images out there even if it may not even be a nude it just may be a picture that they know that they don't want out but it's going to start with a three LEL approach so in the beginning they're going to pay special attention they're going to give a lot of you're so beautiful you're so handsome and sometimes that's all it takes cuz some kids they've never heard that from anyone other than Mom and Dad and I can't tell you how many kids I work with and they said that they met made me feel special and that's all it took that was their end they may um shower them with gifts and again even if they don't know them in person even if they've never met them in person maybe they're only talking to them online but they're sending them Bitcoins they're sending them online currency they're um sending them gift cards they're paying for Amazon carts they're pay giving them money to get their hair done their nails done going to the barber shop going to um the mall and get an outfit again that grooming Behavior we talk a lot about hair and nails getting the um going to the barber shops new clothes new shoes because again it's a grooming technique but it's always the benefit a trafficker or the person that's exploiting them so they're not doing it because they're kind and they're nice they're doing it because that's what they desire right maybe they are more partial for someone that has red fingernails or maybe they like the white tips or maybe they like long hair opposed to short hair so they'll pay for extensions or pay for wigs or are they like a a a really clean cut guy so they want short hair and well groomed and nice clothes nice perfume nice cologne it's all about the dollar amount right so and with trafficking if person's coming to them and they're selling that person for a sexual favor and they come to them and they hadn't showered in a couple of days and they don't look the best and they don't smell the best are they going to get top dollar no but if they come to them looking nice smell good look good they're going to get more money so it's always about the money they promise that increase of popularity it is another way to recruit if they were going to school and they didn't have the greatest things in the beginning of the year now they're coming to school with nice jewelry and clothes and makeup people are going to ask where are you going to where you getting it from oh come to the party Saturday night my boy Jimmy will hook you up or let me let's join this chat with my boy Jimmy trust it moves the trust that you're going to sell the glamour of the street life they're going to probably be introducing them to pornography cuz they're establishing normaly so they're watching pornography together again in person or it could be online there's picture sharing um images are getting more graphic they're going to challenge the boundaries so if you're are more strict parent they're going to try to push you away they're going to try to say your mom and dad treat you like a little boy or a little girl you're a grown man you're a grown woman you need to listen to me I love you we're going to be a family I'm going to marry you I'm going to give you what you've always wanted again picking that vulnerability what do they want do they want love are they seeking a romantic relationship are they just seeking someone to listen to them and that is big and even with law enforcement in the room and even though we all do this day in and day out I can't tell you how many kids tell me when I ask what Drew you to that person almost the number one across the board they're going to say what they listen to me we get busy especially us that work these type of cases and do these type of work and if you're in a high stress job doctors lawyers nurses healthc care a lot of times we're tired we get home and we get home homeless sanctuary and our kids come running to us mom dad so and so took something out of my room mom dad they won't let me play the game Mom Dad they won't let me watch this on TV and you're like dudes really I just walked in the door I'm tired you just need to deal with it and don't get me wrong I believe kids should have good problem resolution themselves but I also know that if you don't listen to them about those little things guess what they're not going to come to you for the big ones so you have to listen because that's the number one in they listen to me they listen to them because they're trying to pick the vulnerability right and to do that they have to get to know them get to know their family and then it's the payback I've done all these things for you I bought you all these things I did this thing I love you I'm your boyfriend again even girlfriend even if they've never met them they're in this online romantic relationship what are you going to do for me we're going to make some money we're in it together now a lot of times when we work these cases kids or young adults don't self-identify they don't see themsel as a victim because they feel like they were in this together that this was my boyfriend this was my girlfriend you know we're going to we made money we're doing it together I'm doing my 50% he's doing or she is doing their 50% by advertising or what have you so they just don't see it they don't see the harm in it but once those pictures are out there once those images are out there it's really hard to get them back and as we were talking earlier it's so important if somebody has an image of you maybe they got it off your Snapchat roll or maybe you befriended someone and maybe you sent pictures that you maybe shouldn't have sent and another one I said listening is number one the second one I didn't tell I want mom and dad to be mad or disappointed in me mom and dad might be disappointed but they're there to help you and if you don't trust mom and dad go to a school counselor go to your coach go to your school resource officers but you have to tell someone cuz it's not going to go away I've never worked any of these cases ever in my 22-year career where it just went away because they said you need to stop that's not how it works it's going to keep getting more and more graphic more and more pestering you for those images that content so again how easy is it to become a victim we're going to watch this video I want hopefully the whole thing plays this time they were said last last one did not play all the way through but I want you to pay attention to the child's demeanor so in the beginning she's very bubbly she's very excited she's in this new relationship with this person and in the end you can see complete lack of Hope back me I can't stop thinking about you I know you've been waiting for this for a while I wanted to give you something special [Music] who are you why are you doing this again you could see the chain and that's a lot of times when we talk to parents they'll tell us you know we knew something was going on in the kids's life we we thought it was maybe some bullying we we knew there was something going on because there was changes in the behavior we just didn't know exactly what it was and then after we start doing investigations we find out a lot of times it was this online solicitation this exploitation piece so often times they're going to course children on off of social media and it again the apps every day we staff cases and it's a new app I used to try to keep up with the apps and I've just given up on that because it's truly a new app every day it's very easy to develop apps before it was a little bit harder now Pro probably most of us in this room can do it so um they'll lure them off the apps a lot of times they'll take them from a more secured app you know Facebook or what have you Instagram Snapchat Tik Tok into a a less monitored messaging app um sometimes we have them where they'll send them their own cell phones so they're communicating on a cell phone that they provided them so they can also track them a lot of these apps have Geo tracking on it so it knows where your kids are at all times so you need to be careful with those apps and make sure that that that feature is turned off so they can't determine a radius of where your kids are or exactly where you are depending on which app it is they're going to again groom them they're going to like comment always having communication with them they're going to feel that vulnerability build that trust and get them to share more pictures and then move them from monitored to less monitored pages and move them from sharing to selling um those pictures online of themselves kids know and I know there's several of you in this room but when I do um education training and we talk to students I can tell almost every student raises their hand when I ask has anyone ever contacted them off of their social media gaming systems it doesn't mean that they engageed them but someone has usually contacted them someone that they've never met before so it's very very common that that happens it's also very common that kids have posted things to on apps where they didn't know people as well they also know that there's certain apps of selling their own content selling their pictures and making money but once those pictures are out there again it's hard to get it back and it's only a matter of time till that picture or that content gets in the wrong hand and then they're going to use it against you they're going to use that sextortion piece so the best way I mean a lot of times people ask are they're good monitoring sites or they're good software you put on your phones or different features but the honestly the best thing is communication because it's one YouTube video way of trying to figure out how to get around those parental restrictions so communication is the best way you have to have an open communication with your kids and let them know when even when things get tough even when things get bad and they you may be disappointed but that's your job you're there to help instruct your child to never agree to meet face to face with someone they met online teach your child about boundaries and not to overshare personal information preview websites and apps that your child want to use including gaming and YouTube channels discourage use of webcams now I know that a lot of times you have to use webcams because of school or projects and different things but you have to really monitor it because you saw that video you could tell that guy was definitely not a minor right but they can use filtering apps you can make yourself look older you can make yourself look younger they have absolutely no idea who they're talking to they think they're talking to a 10-year-old girl and it ends up being a 42y old man so it's a lot of different ways to filter out because we hear this so much well I was live webcam and I know they were a kid no that's not necessarily true and consider setting up your parental controls which they gave a lot of information on that already making sure your social media accounts are private you're not going to friend or follow anyone that you do not know in person understand that people are not always who they portray to be beware if you meet a person on one app and then you find them on another site or they find you on another site that should be a red flag for you cuz that person's looking for you right so they friended you on Snapchat and now they found you on Tik Tok red flag should be going off you know you never met this person who is it understand that any content created under Tech social media post or online pictures videos can be made public information so you have to be careful what you put out there and most importantly don't be afraid to ask for help so how do you talk to youth ask your kids has anyone ever tried to talk to you online or social media or gaming systems what would you do if that happened if somebody did contact you you definitely don't need to engage in any conversation and you need to tell an adult I'll give you a quick example of how this happened to me in my life when my son was 16 now my son could probably do this presentation for you guys cuz he's been around this since he was born but he was um upstairs in our game room my office is right beside our game room and he had a headset on which in hindsight I probably would be against those cuz you don't know what's being said in their ear but at the time they had it and he um came and tapped me on the shoulder he said hey come in here something's going on I don't know there's this person he appears to be older he's asking a lot of crazy questions to these kids and I don't know what's going on so he put the headsets on me they were asking questions like where do you live um who's home when you come home from school are you alone or is there other people there do you have siblings are they younger are they older are they female or they male obviously questions that has nothing to do with the game and these kids are rattling off this information because they're not paying attention right they're playing the game so I wrote down the gaming ID some of you guys know Chris King out of Gainesville I sent it to Chris I said hey I don't know what's going on but but something's not right I was like can you look into it for us they said yes we'll look into it couple weeks later I get a call back it's a guy out of Michigan that's trying to find kiddos that had primarily was contacting males to try to figure out who had female siblings and they would send um I don't want to get too graphic in here but graphic pictures of their female siblings body parts for gaming codes now that was my kid and if my it happens with my kid it probably happens yours as well right so they need to know even though they may not be indirected obviously my kid was 16 he wasn't giving out information but most 16year olds would have just said hey it's just some creepy dude that's asking questions right they probably wouldn't have told anybody so having that knowledge base to if you hear something if you see something that doesn't sit right tell your parent tell someone tell your school resource officers so they can look a little bit deeper and see what it could possibly be so why do you think strangers want to talk to a youth online make sure you do not accept any friend or follower request or communicate with anyone that they do not know in person and understand they may not be who they say they are have you ever seen inappropriate pictures being shared or shown at school what do you think that sharing a new picture of someone could be dangerous what would you do if someone stole a picture of video off your camera that you did not want posted and what would you do if someone threatened to post a picture or video you did not want posted so what do you do what can you do if you suspect that something like this is happening and it's a minor obviously if it's a minor or an adult and they're in imminent danger it's going to be 911 first call always has to be to the Sheriff's Office to get a deputy out there right away or an officer out there right away again the Florida abuse hotline we handle all forms of trafficking and extortion everything we have law enforcement has we have to immediately send it to them and vice versa whatever they have comes to us um so we work hand in hand if it's a tip it can go through the national tip line or the Cyber tip lines and that information is going to be filtered down to us we always tell people if if it's a tip if you just don't know exactly what's going on definitely call it in there but if you know more information you know who this person is meaning the child or the person that's being sex distorted you do not have to know the perpetrator because most that's our job right to try to figure out who this person is but if you know someone that this is happening to contact the Sheriff's Office contact DCF because if you go through the tip lines it's a delay it could be a couple of days before we get it so we need uh the DCF Hotline is 247 um and of course like I said 911 if anyone's in imminent danger my information um again my name is Marine Anderson Regional Human Trafficking prevention coordinator for Northeast and Northwest regions and my area starts right around here around D land goes up to Georgia line goes past Jacksonville Tallahassee Panama City Pensacola to the Alabama line so 36 counties and then Christy Gillis is our she's not here tonight with us but she's our local representative as well so I believe with that are we going to open it up for some questions yes let me get everybody up there so so I'm mayor Santiago AA Jr I'm extremely thankful for the sheriff his department and DCF for putting this together this is extremely important um I would also like to ask a question when the time comes of how many of this has actually happened here in the City of Deltona because I think it's extremely important now uh so for our faes that we see in child exploitation unit I think Del is about 60 to 70% of our case Lo and but the cber tips 65 that I talked about those are all throughout the county um there's only three agencies that participated in the iag task force that's the Sheriff's Office Port ore PD and Daytona Beach PD um thank you so those are the only three agencies that participate in the internet crimes against children task force but for Hands-On cases we estimate 60 to 70% of our work comes out of Deltona and remember a lot of it comes the center for missing and exploited children has a Geo fench dropped over so it'll come in with the IP address and says Valia County and that's when they start to go to work so a lot of times you don't make an arrest until you go seize the computers and stuff and then they come back and make the arrest so it's a it's a long labor process um thank you guys first of all I am commissioner Dana mcool from District Four here in Deltona um to say that I am Shell Shocked is understatement and to understand the magnitude of what you guys are dealing with is certainly not shocking but it just strikes my heart of of that we even have to have you guys and I don't know how you do what you do dayto day but thank you for doing it you know I wanted to say this to to and this is my personal opinion that um I know that parents get conflicting information sometimes but we need for our children children to understand that they are safe in telling someone if something is happening if they do not have that relationship with their parents they need to be able to tell a counselor or a teacher and it is Inc coming upon us to ignore political boundaries on this message when a child's life is at stake so no matter what you believe politically and what political rules are right now it is more important to save the life of this child by telling a teacher a counselor or someone at a school because we have a responsibility to these children no matter what so just remember this as we're moving through we need to support our educational staff because they have the most secondary to parents contact with our children and they need to be empowered to help children and we need to support them so again guys thank you I really don't know how you do do what you do day after day but I feel more secure with our children knowing that you're here it is a grave matter this will alter a child's life this will end a child's life take this please back to your neighbors your friends and your family because this is serious stuff here so thank you guys for everything that you're doing to protect our children hello everyone my name is Ruben cologne I the honor and pleasure of serving as a Schoolboard member here in District 5 uh which covers Deltona Enterprise oin and you know sometimes you see these numbers you see these presentations you think well this is uh something that's happening somewhere else and it's easy to think that in vucha County Schools if you don't mind sheriff in Valia County Schools we have a program called Gaggle Gaggle monitors everything that comes across our Network when our students are on our devices or in school a lot of times that's 24/7 and last year alone from June to June we had 64,500 hours of investigating what was being done now to put it into context sometimes it could be a student doing a look up for research for suicide and that will flag it could be in a document it could be a web search it could be legitimate they're looking to harm somebody harm themselves and so we've been able to catch a lot of that thanks to that technology another thing I want to point out is a year ago actually right about this time we transitioned our Safety and Security to the vucha County Sheriff's Office and so Captain Smith is our leader for Safety and Security in our district and it's very comforting to know that we have removed the layer of contact that allows all of these resources to be available to our students it's not to say they weren't there before we called and they responded but that partnership really makes a difference four to five Florida it's not uncommon that we get I'll get messages people will say you know there's going to be a shooting at the school and I tell them put it in four to five Florida what is fortify Florida a lot of people have no idea it was created in response to Parkland and please correct me if I'm wrong where the agencies were not talking to each other we knew there was a kid that had a problem it went to this agency that agency they really weren't communicating when something goes into for toy Florida it goes to all of the agencies including the school district and each agency and correct me if I'm wrong has to check off yes this is us no this is not us this is what we're doing Etc that is how florify Florida works now I'll share with you the other side of it is someone will go and it's on every computer in our school district any computer someone will put in there and they'll say there's guy heard a kid who said he's has a gun but I don't know who it is and so we still take that seriously they still come out do the whole thing as if but sometimes it's as vague as I heard a kid on the bus saying he heard someone else had a gun not a whole lot we can do with that I mean unless we can pinpoint who it was and sometimes they've been able to because it's been really really serious so again you know we do a lot to try to keep our students safe especially in the digital age sorry to say this when your kids come home and they're on their devices not a whole lot we can do and upcoming there's going to be some changes to school policy potentially and we're still working on it due to new legislation where cell phones are not going to be allowed in school or they're going to have to be put away Etc and I'll share with you I know I'm taking too long you know Tik Tock those fights now where before we were growing up there was a fight you threw two punches three punches and that was it now they think they're Rocky because they're being recorded there was a brawl at Deltona High mind you top school belua Flagler extremely proud of everything that's going on at Deltona High there was a brawl that video was posted to Twitter that video was viewed 7 million times because there's a web page called high school fights and Twitter does nothing about it so again we do a lot to try to keep our kids safe and I just wanted to share that and if anybody has any questions later I'll be around sorry thank you I want to thank you because you're the one who championed us putting a captain in so there was no layer between us and what was going on at school so anybody has any questions for us we have a lot of people here I will encourage you when you leave there is some pretty good literature there it's not heavy it's a lot of its bullet points and if you'll share it share it on Facebook share it with everybody you know I that's what we need you to do we need you to share it more parents need to know about what we're doing here and what the school's doing Carla you want to talk real quick about the runaway hi I am Carla Quan I am the director director of juvenile services and the director of our new Family Resource Center in Daytona Beach the reason why we have a high population of kids in human trafficking in the State of Florida is because there is no law against running away if they run out the side door and we bring them back to the front door they can go out that door there's no consequences for running away in other states there are consequences because if we get a runaway from another state they're brought to Our Family Resource Center they are detained they see a judge first thing in the morning and we figure out why are you running who are you running from how did you get here so we're able to dig deep down and realize oh you came from Michigan with a 45 year old man and you're 13 that's a red flag so now we have things that we can work to figure out what's going on but for our children our children are not protected the same way as other states anybody have any questions Kim you want to say anything introduce yourself we'll get a microphone to you yeah I know I I probably don't uh my name is Kim short and I'm with Vala County Council PTA I'm the vice president right now and I'm the legislative chair um I've been working with Carla for a little while now to so that people understand what the Family Resource Center is if you know of anybody who might be having some issues with their with their children and they they feel like they're at their their wits end and they and they really need some extra help the way the center works is that it's like kind of like a doctor's office you go in the front door and they have you fill out some paperwork and they have all the agencies there and so I'm just going to expand on on how wonderful Cara is because she is just everything um and and what they're doing over there is terrific so uh please share that with any other families the other thing that I want to make sure that I they say to everybody here is if you know of any families who could come tonight I know it's really really busy with school starting next week but they're interested in coming to a presentation like this we have two more um it's uh Monday April 28th I'm sorry I mean April August 28th um and that is going to be at the same time 6 o'clock in DeBry at the city hall and on Tuesday August 29th the next day we're going to be out in Pearson and that's a little bit more of a a schlep but you should definitely get all the information that we have over here so that you can um contact any of these people The Runaway law is something that you know I just was made aware of this is my third time coming to a presentation and we are going to start working with lawmakers we can never have enough Advocates it's something that I tell everybody everybody knows somebody who knows a lawmaker or knows somebody that knows a lawmaker we have to talk about things they have to feel the beat of the drum and that's how they know that it's something that we need to change so it really is very very important that we get that law okay thank you Kim thank you because she she's going to tell me she needs a pay raise because she had to sew two garments together for tonight's presentation so match she matches exactly exactly well again if you guys don't have any questions please hit that table we'll be mingle mingling around thank you so much for your attention and we hope it's interesting yes ma'am I do have one question good is there going oh Lord sorry is there going to be talk about possibly presenting this to middle school students I think that's a question for the gentleman in the red shirt but not so intense that's a question for the gentlemen in a red shirt you got to get him a microphone intense is the only way that works no and so and so absolutely I I will commit you know I'm often said I make offers I'm not authorized to make but Captain Todd Smith being our director of Safety and Security so we're actually rolling out a campaign this year we have four campaigns one of the campaigns is Internet safety um we're also doing vaping and narcotics and see something say something and then door gate and ID card safety so that's our plan for this year we still have to put it all together and get it rolled out to everybody each quarter will be rolling one out so yes we do plan on doing something uh along those lines this is a new and world for most of us we didn't grow up with these tools we didn't grow up connected uh via phones and the internet and it's very very hard for us to understand what is going on but if we're in charge of children in any way shape or form it's our responsibility to understand how people with bad intentions can easily reach our children which are most precious uh things in our lives the things that will be care carrying and leading the world when when we move on and so I would encourage you to stay vigilant with children that you are involved with whether they're your children or your grandchildren um children that trust you who are your neighbors it takes all of us because this is something that evolves quicker than you can imagine um when my children who were in their 40s were teenagers it was pagers you know um we in some other world now and it it very rapidly changes so I'm so glad that we had the opportunity and that all of these folks were willing to come and give a presentation hopefully you pick up some tools and a few ideas about how to keep uh your antennas up for the children that you are responsible for thanks so much thank you madam mayor I do want I do want to introduce your the commanding officer of District six which is you guys is Captain Omar mcnight and the handsome gentleman here who forgot his razor is Captain Todd Smith he is our Le aison to the the school district so he works Clos closely uh with the district and the administration so with that any questions at all do you have we'll do our best to answer please try to throw one at Amanda she's hiding back there she doesn't like the public speak my question is I mean this is great my question is this is great for the Comm Community parents and everybody else but now do you take this to the schools right to the students and they're never too young if they're getting on the Internet and they're doing all these things and that is it being taught to like eight eight years old and up what to watch for because you can tell the parents but if the kids are on there and they don't know yes so we tried to build a shield around all the kids um we have a Content keeper which which filters out their ability to search certain things we also have Gaggle which monitors all of their keystrokes so if a kid sends a nudity picture uh we catch it and we filter it and stop it and then investigate it um since we've gotten Gaggle we've got over 4,000 of those so we catch a lot there it does happen like this stuff's real um we also have a fortify Florida which is a tip app and we teach all the kids on that and make sure that they know how to make tips to us in case somebody's doing something that they're not supposed to and then we also have um all the different policies and procedures for the uh the kids to ensure that they know how to behave and then we train them with age appropriate training so they know that in kindergarten they get age appropriate training on the internet and then as they progress up the training uh matures with them so they know about all these ders the inter yes we communicate with them consistently um it's it's tempting you know we we at the at the school side take a lot of steps to prevent them like we prevent the apps from being on the devices that we give them but if you give your kid a device obviously the schools can't stop that like we can't prevent the parent from giving them a device with unlimited access so on our end we're doing everything that we can to stop it and then we also you know communicate in real time with the parents to ensure that they know what's going on when we catch something so we're trying can you go through all those apps one more time because you said twitch which I'm not what are the names of the apps oh he's got it here I'm sorry there is a handout okay because some you start saying apps that I've never heard of yeah it's like are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader no I'm smarter than a first grader not even I would say though look at um just don't focus on just one but try to educate on there because there's so different many I think there's like 3 million um uh apps on the Google store and I think half that on the on the um iPhone on the Apple Store so there's so many apps and they come out every day so there you kind of have to evaluate everyone and I just want to add we've gone out we have gone out and have done training not just at school but also with churches uh we've gone out to Mentor groups so you try to talk to kids and talk to families in anytime that you know anytime that any of us are asked to go out and talk we're happy to go talk with uh with parents with grandparents with kids Etc we have a question here you got to get the you got to get the microphone the Barry has strict rules here with that microphone so at least they let you hold it next one is on the back I want to go back to what he said about off of her question about you went to the schools my kids are in seventh and nth and never once have I heard that somebody came and talked about Internet safety so I'm really curious about like who's doing the teaching is it is it one of the teachers or is it like you guys coming in it's available right on our website so it's do on the laptop yeah on our website on the Vala County Schools website I think question is someone actually telling the kid are they doing like an assembly at schools or anything like that cuz we can tell the kids all day long what we think is safe but we're we're parents we don't know anything so sometimes when they hear from other people they listen more so there there was legislation passed a couple of years ago that there is some Education and Training in K through 12 um so there is some going on now if they're talking about seventh graders specifically with the internet that I don't know but there is education K through 12 in relation to human trafficking that was uh passed a couple years ago doing it with them or they're doing it on their own time well I there's there is time that's that has been set aside that they're supposed to have there's the mental health training that they all have to do there's also in again in relation to the human trafficking now what the school had adop correct correct social emotional learning aspect Kim if you want to introduce yourself and you can jump in here I know take the microphone I'm the community involvement specialist with fua County schools and I've been around for a little while um and also with fua County Council p ta we've had a couple parents ask about this there is some training that your child will be going through and it is um through the like an internet kind of a uh uh process whatever that you can actually opt out of um you know I I'm with you and a lot of the people in this room we want our children to be exposed to this kind of stuff but we also have to remember that there's a lot of parents out there who who are terrified of their children seeing anything so we have to kind of approach things in a way where you are aware of them getting the training and you can opt out of it it is going to be middle school and high school um I don't even think our sixth graders get it I believe it's seventh grade and up I have to double check on that but we did have a guidance counselor at one of our um our trainings that we did one of the ones that Chitwood did who um brought who brought up a good point that you know our school guidance counselors can do separate sessions and we we we are going to do those in some of our schools so if that's something that you're interested in and any of you are here in a school locally and you want to come and see me I will go and I will talk to the school counselors and we'll see if we can put something together okay okay thank you you know you're one meeting short from perfect attendance you attended every one of these I attended I have attended four yes I have so if you don't see me paying attention because I've seen all this I and actually I I um screenshot every single thing up there and I did put it out on Facebook and I can share it with you guys in case you don't want to take paper with you okay okay thank you here you go ma'am okay I want to talk about parents yeah okay um you I have grandchildren my my my my children have put parental controls on their phones I don't know how in-depth the controls are that they have on their phones however you know these kids are really Savvy can they get around these parental controls and get into stuff that they shouldn't be getting into that's my question and should more training be for parents and how to monitor their children yeah I mean all of us think back to our day and age didn't we all do things behind our parents back that they couldn't stop no matter what they did so there's going to be that that group that goes around that my concern is as I travel the county we have so many grandparents raising their grandchildren and I'm going to be 60 years old and let me tell you I can't chase an eighty old a five year round what do I do with a 70y old and an 80y old who have no idea how to work these these these items so when we go to these churches and these different social organizations we offer to sit down and try to explain to them the best way possible to monitor what they're doing and they can get in through the gaming systems as well and talk to them yeah oh yeah the bad the bad guys oh yeah good yeah I just say the Xbox and Playstation like I we talked about earlier in the case examples the com denominator was chat it's the same thing with Xbox and Playstation um they have apps you can install on your phone tablet whatever but you can chat with people we've had sex extortion cases start through uh Microsoft services online through through Xbox through a game so yes even Xboxes and PlayStations are not immune because of the side chatting that's always available on all the different platforms to let you know how Savvy these these scumbags are you probably you probably don't remember this but it was a Big Splash in the news there were two FBI agents who were shot in South Florida and killed serving a warrant just to get they weren't making an arrest they were just getting his electronics devices and they shot and killed two of them they shot and killed him or he killed himself that case just came to fruition and they locked up a bunch of PE 57 people I think from around the world mostly in Australia were connected to this guy in South Florida they were they all had some type of degree in computer forensic and Computer Engineering and they were able to do all of this stuff for all of these years that's how smart and Slick this this group was but it was interesting to see two agents killed in South Florida tied to this worldwide web of extorting and and and really putting our kids at harm yes sir well I want to thank you for this program uh you know we all think about it but you're bringing it out to us somebody's actually saying something now I want to know uh we saw first that these your gentlemen took them down pretty hard good now what are you going to do with them how long do they stay away what can you do with them that is a question for the courts not us yeah well true we do our job we we type it up we send a charges over and when the attorneys and the lawyers and the judges get it you know some of them are life sentences some of them they're they're they're they're not I mean that's that's you see me right you see us you see us out here this is what we do you don't see a judge here you don't see a prosecutor here you don't see a defense attorney here why you don't want me to answer I well I'm going to tell you I'm going to tell you it because it's shrouded in secrecy what I'm what I'm proud of is when these men in women walk into a courtroom they have done everything humanly possible to nail that son of a bitch's ass to the wall but as you know when it gets in there and Slick Wily starts talking and you know pleading you you know I'll tell you an anecdotal story real quickly uh we had a child abuse case where the the suspect was a emry Riddle University uh professor and he was grooming uh a young lady from the time she was like four he was a family friend and the and the and the parents would sometimes hey go over Mr Mr so and so they're going to watch you and eventually he had her sitting naked watching porn and eventually she went and told her mother well he gets convicted of that of child abuse and all these other things he convicted in like 15 minutes by a jury they allowed him out on bail pending his appeal which sent me ballistic and we were able to change the law that you cannot allow somebody convicted of something so horrendous to remain free on bail pending his appeal and his appeal wasn't malfeasance by police malfeasance by a prosecutor his appeal was he didn't think the prosecutor showed that he was over the age of 18 now the the man was a a a professor for crying out loud his education alone would tell you because they they read all that you know his uh his curriculum you know where he graduated where he was employed and they a judge allowed him and the only reason we knew it was they're in Publix and the little girl looks over the next register and grabs her mother and points at him and the family is like how the hell is he out so to your point yes ma'am my name is Cheryl Thompson I'm a senior advisor for Apple support just wanted to let you know that apple.com support has a great selection of information on parental controls if you put a parental passcode on there don't forget it you can't nuke that thing and don't share it but apple is more than happy to speak to anyone about that gives a device to a small child there's Family Sharing and restrictions that you can put on them and uh we're more than happy to educate people so that we thank you for for saying that you live here in in the barry I City how nice is that to have somebody like you on staff with us thank you I I will tell you one of the problems and Kim will tell you and I'm sure the mayor will tell you and all of us will tell you is the somebody said about the parents that they just give them unfettered access to these things and we see that all the time there they just it's like the babies who cares he's in the back of the car they're quiet who cares they're doing whatever well we see what's going on so anyone else anybody else yes sir I appreciate you guys putting this on on today I'm a evangelist I travel around to different churches throughout Florida I speak mostly about on the Realms of addiction and how even the drug drug addicts are getting younger and younger and younger so I appreciate this because I'm going to add this to the message that I take to the churches because that's something things like this get swept under the rug you know and uh my kids are grown now and everything but if uh my grandkids came to me and asked pea for a cell phone they'd get a jitterbug they get a flip fun if they and if they want a video game they get Nintendo pong there you go I'm telling my age now I'm with you I had pong that was my first video game or even the little football players that go around on the metal table yeah oh I'm really tell my age now but I did have a quick question as far as a percentage of you know I know that there's also children and and even teens that are snatched off the street and come up as missing persons what would you say the percentage is with people getting actually snatched in cars by predators versus the online Predators grooming and having them come out and meet them and taking them I want to let Lance jump in here in a minute but or DCF if they want to jump up but we do not have that people getting snatched we have no missing children in fuia County online is That's Where It's At through the roof we do have and we these these guys run the investigations where you do get those that guy driving through the school zone putting the window down trying to lure a child into a car you know that we probably get what do you think a year every now and then yeah maybe maybe one or two a year if that but the internet is the is the dangerous was in DCF I just wanted to add there was a couple maybe was a year or so or so ago there was again it's important to share correct information there was some misinformation that there was white vans that were sitting at one Daytona getting ready to snatch people well Daytona Beach police end up having to put out resources to share that misinformation because when you're sharing that misinformation and everyone was reporting to law enforcement you're taking away from what they can you know them really being able to investigate so I can say you know based on my experience I have never had again working directly with trafficking victims not anyone that had been snatched but the online grooming majority of the cases it was the online if you watch like on Investigation Discovery because we're big fans of the detective shows and stuff you you see a lot of videos of people becoming very Brazen and even trying to snatch children out of the parents' arms well and we're and right now like we're talking about what's going on in our community not saying that doesn't happen around the world but what human trafficking looks like uh overseas looks much different than what it looks like here gotcha okay thank you free questions thank you anyone else anyone going once sandbags mayor sandbag sandbags outside sandbags until 8 tonight and from 8 to 8 tomorrow the Barry residents fingers crossed we get a break yeah I I hope this is just prepping for sometime in the future can I yeah say I just want to share over here in West valua too um you also have a coalition of churches that are working together to be able to share information help they help raise funding for um human trafficking survivors and housing and it's called hope so um again there's uh churches that are here in debber Delona um that have put on information uh events with parents and kids as well uh before you leave we had a uh a woman who's very passionate about this topic in South Florida and she donated these kits to to parents uh it's called Lauren kids she actually drove them up when she heard what we were doing and wanted to make sure that anybody who wanted these kits would take one so they're up on the table with all the literature so again thank you all very much God bless you stay safe during the storm thank you stay safe this [Applause] [Music] week
