Good. How about you? >> Hey, good. I'm deputy with the sheriff's office. Hey, Re. I got you stopped, man. What happened to your windshield here? It's all cracked and busted up. >> Yeah. Tree fell on it. I'm waiting on my This is my mama's truck. She's waiting on her insurance company to fix it. >> Okay, that's fine. You got your license with you? >> I don't. I lost it. I just moved here. Okay. And I lost my driver's license in my U-Haul truck. >> Okay, that's fine. You got insurance and registration in here with you? >> Yeah, >> cuz I just moved here from uh the beach in North Carolina. And this my mama's truck cuz I matter of fact I got transmission to my truck in the back of this one. >> Well, here's her. >> I'll give you this here. If you'll write your first, middle, and last name as well as your birthday down, I'll look it up that way. Is your license suspended or anything like that? >> No, not far as I would know. >> Okay. >> What you reaching for when you >> Oh, cigarettes. I'm sorry, buddy. I don't have nothing that'll hurt you. I got you. That's fine. >> Are you on probation through another state or anything? >> No, sir. I don't got no issues. Not far none that I know trouble. >> I got We don't have good internet down here. That's why I was asking. Normally it'll pop up, but there's not internet through here, so that's why I asked. >> No, brother. I don't get no trouble. >> I got you. >> I just come from my cousin's house helping him do a bunch of work. >> Carrie Thomas. >> I'm not from here. I don't know all these folks. You'd be surprised. I hear that a lot of people like, "Hey, you know such and such." I'm not from here. So, >> I'm not saying for no kind of >> No, no, no. I'm saying I don't know anybody around here. So, >> but that's me cuz I'm not even been here a month. >> Yeah. Like been here almost as long as I have been here a few more months, but not too much. So, >> and buddy, I ain't trying to be hard or nothing, but I don't know where nothing is in this truck. This my mama's truck. >> Okay, that's fine. >> You can run it whatever you want. I guess this is >> That's why I need you said your license isn't suspended that you're aware of or anything like that. Okay. Has it ever been suspended before? Yes. >> Okay. What was it suspended for then? >> A long time ago. It was suspended for uh well because of my brother because my brother had stolen my driver's license and got in trouble with it. >> Okay. >> And then I got pulled over. Didn't know that he done it and I had to prove myself in court. >> Okay. >> And that's anything if there's anything it probably be that if he has, but he hasn't done that in a long time. >> Do you have any warrants or anything you're aware of? Okay. All right. Hop out here real quick. I'm going to fill you stuff out. I can just hand it to you. We'll get you back out of here. Okay. Do you have any knives or guns on you or anything? >> I got a pocket knife if you want. >> You just sit right there. No guns on you. That's all I'm worried about. Good. >> That's fine. [clears throat] >> Phil, do me a favor, partner. Here. Keep your hands out of your pockets for me. >> Oh, buddy. I ain't got nothing. >> I got you. I don't know. I haven't searched you, so I don't know what you got in your pockets, >> brother. I don't I don't mean no problem get. That's all. >> I understand work doing down there. >> I was helping him work on a bunch of his uh his mowers, his weed eaters. I'm a mechanic by trade. >> Okay. >> You do your own stuff or you work for yourself or >> Well, right now I'm trying to find one. So, I'm just helping He's an older guy. He's He's about 80 years old. >> Yeah. >> So, and uh he's I like I'm just starting to learn my whole family here. I don't know anybody on my mama's side. >> Okay. >> And so, um she introduced me to him and he needed a lot of help around his house. So, I've been helping him. So, >> you're like a mobile mechanic? No, I just like I was telling him, I just moved here. >> Just trying to find a place to set up. >> Well, I'm trying to find work as a mechanic or find a shop. But like I was saying, I was helping my cousin Junior. He's older than me. And I was telling him, I just moved here >> and I don't know hardly any of my family here. My mom's introducing my family cuz I was raised by my dad. >> Uhhuh. >> And Brunswick Countyy's got to the beach in North Carolina so bad with drugs and stuff like that. I got a 2-year-old daughter. I didn't want to raise her around it. >> That's We're getting to that point. That's what we're trying to prevent. We get it's it's almost every traffic stop now we make. Somebody's got it's meth. The meth is the problem. >> That's what See, that's my brother's bad. >> And that's one reason why I come here because he is at one time he stolen my driver's license and got me in a bunch of trouble >> using that as an ID. >> Yep. And I've had to go and prove myself and I've had to and it's ongoing. And I finally got it took care of and got them all squared away. At least I hope now. I have my driver's license. Like I said, I lost it in the U-Haul whenever I was gear. I left it up in the visor and they rented the truck out before I could go and get it back. >> They gone now. >> Yeah. And then so, like I said, I'm trying to find work here as a mechanic or find or find me a shop and start my own. >> Yeah. >> But that's all I've been doing my whole life. >> Yeah. That's why I moved here cuz you can't even have your youngest toys in the front yard without somebody stealing them. >> It ain't that bad here. But the drugs the drugs are starting to take over now. >> Well, it's so bad there >> cuz where I'm from, you could go 45 minutes one way, you could be in Wilmington. You go 45 minutes other way, you can be in Myrtle Beach. >> Wilmington, you can't even make it to one traffic light without a bomb right there trying to bomb money from you. And they got heroin meter sitting out. And then you have uh in Myrtle Beach if you go to the strip or something like that where everybody goes and hangs out for vacation. >> Yeah. Everybody stop coming because you can't even go without her needles laiding out on the side of the >> road. I just know I got two older sons. My oldest son's in the Air Force. >> Yeah. >> And my youngest son's 17 and just graduated school early. So I was like, you know what? They're they're old enough. They can handle it on their own. They're doing good. And then I got my 2-year-old daughter. I don't want to bring her up there. >> Yeah. Yeah, this ain't a bad place to op. I mean, >> and my mama told me, she goes, she goes, same thing you told me. She goes, "Well, Memphis's getting bad around here, but you know, you just, you know, keep her busy and stuff. When she gets older, she'll be all right." >> It's like I I'm raising both my daughters here, so >> it ain't that bad of a place yet for me to be up and moving, >> right? >> I don't know. I just don't believe in it, man. I don't like >> It's starting to It's starting to get that way. >> I just don't like it, man. I don't like nothing to do with drugs. I don't like nothing that deals with getting in no trouble. Yeah. You know, you know, two things I know in life. I've, you know, because I know how to do mechanic work and I've always worked in tattoo shops. So, you look at me, you might think, hey, he might be a hood because he covering tattoos and stuff. >> I was about to say they just changed our tattoo policy. So, we good. >> I go from, see, I go from a a place, you know, at the beach where you can't tell the difference, you know, good people from bad people cuz they pretty much look the same. And then I come here to to me this is nothing but country compared to where I'm from. And so it's a huge like how do I explain it? It's like a culture shock for me, you know. And so and I love it here already. I love it. Like people's nice. I'm not used to that. >> Yeah. >> You know, I'm not used to that at all. People greet you. It's like, hey, how you doing? You know, I'm not used to it at all. I'm used to you go to a store and you hold the door open for somebody they'll cut you out. >> Not here. Folks are pretty polite around here. >> I like it. Not trying to, you know, I like it. But like I said, where I'm from, man, you could hold a door for a lady there or something and the LGBT LGBTQ trap is so big around there and stuff like that, man. You hold a door for a lady, they'll cuss you out because you're you're not feeding into their feminism. Well, thing is if I walk in a building, it don't matter if it's a woman or a guy behind me. I'm going to hold the door slam in their face. >> Yeah. Like if you go where I'm from, if you go like Southport area, Wilmington, Myrtle Beach, if you do that, you have to be rude there for people to think you're normal there. Like if you do that there, they'll cuss you out. I don't need you holding no door for me. Like the women will. Men like, "Hey, all right, dog." But if women, >> what's your mind? I'm going to call my mom and let her know I got pulled over with her truck cuz of her windshield. >> I don't know if you know Matt Thomas. >> He's my cousin. >> That's his house is where I just left. >> Oh, is it? Hey. Hey. I just got pulled over on my way back from uh Junior's because of your windshield. >> Well, I mean, I'm just letting you know I'm over here on the side of the road. I'm waiting on them to run me and all that stuff. >> Oh, I I don't see a reason for you to have to come down here. I mean, >> no. Tell as soon as your license come back, you going to get out here. We ain't got no tickets. >> As soon as my license come back, I mean, I should be fine. >> I think only thing it's going to do is write me a warning called you. Well, I know I know I know they're not they're not being out the way about it. They're just just doing their job. Tell her if she knows a good mechanic, he might can fix the windshield. >> That's a different ball game. Say what, Mom? >> All right. Well, if there's a problem, I'll call you and let you know. I love you, too. >> All right. >> What's Junior doing now? Just staying at the house. >> Yeah, just sitting down there. That's >> He sold all them duplexes he had, didn't he? That's what he's been telling me. I didn't know. >> Yeah. Somebody told me he sold all of them cuz he cuz the duplexes he owned the right side, another guy owned the left side. From what I was told, he sold his side to the other guy and got out of it. >> Yeah. That's what he was telling me. >> Cuz I rented from him for a while. >> Yeah. >> Before I bought my house. >> Yeah. Uh that's like I said, I've been helping him the last three days. Like I said, I've been trying to find work left and right. It's hard to find work here. You think it pays decent. >> Yeah. But, uh, >> I was working at the Blue Ridge meat. Uh, >> the butcher. >> Yeah, butcher shop. I was, uh, going to kill him with, uh, Jake Thomas, I think his name. I ain't like that. I just couldn't put up with working. So, I I'm going to go back turn. I'mma find something somewhere. >> All right. Come over here. The front here. So, understand something. So, your license is showing suspended through North Carolina. Are you serious? >> Yeah, it's for a violation for a court offense. >> What's the court offense? I don't know. I don't know. >> I just said failed up here court offense pickup driver's license. So, I confirmed it with high patrol. They sent us picture your license number. So, >> killed my brother, man. >> I'm just telling you that's kind of >> What do we Where do we go from here, buddy? >> So, in the state of Georgia, if you got a suspended license, it's a mandatory arrest. We don't have any option on that. So, we do have to take you. >> Okay. >> If we can write you a ticket, we'd let you go. It's not us. Trust me. Cuz >> can I bail out? >> Yes. So you'll go to court, you can get out same day. So I mean you'll go to jail. Excuse me. And you can be able to get right back out. So >> can I call my mom real quick and have her meet me >> as soon as you get down there? >> Yeah. As soon as you get up there, they'll let you give her a call. You get >> I mean I don't know her number by heart. >> Well, you taking your phone with you all. >> Okay. I swear I didn't know. >> It's fine, man. It ain't a big deal, >> man. I'm dealing I've been doing Yeah. >> Yeah. Yeah. You're good, man. >> I've been dealing with this with my brother for five years of him doing this with me, man. I didn't even know I had a I didn't even know I had anything wrong. I've been pulled over. >> That's probably that sheriff's office calling. Will you answer it? >> I've been pulled over twice in North Carolina. Nobody's ever been >> That's why I called both agencies just to double check. I'm going to give you two sets. That way you got plenty of room. Let me just grab this other one here for you. All right. >> So, how do I take care of this North Carolina? So, first thing I would do is go to you can call that agency up there in North Carolina that making or not making, excuse me, Brunswick. >> Uhhuh. >> And tell them, hey, my license is suspended. This is what's going on. >> And I didn't know nothing about it. >> Well, I say what they'll do. So, your listed address, they'll send you mail to it also, >> letting you know that there is suspensions and stuff like that. So, what it shows is a suspension for pickup for court offenses. So, you hadn't shown up to court at some point for something is what it's what it's telling me, >> right? But I don't I don't know. I never knew anything. >> Have you ever been arrested before? >> I've been arrested before. Yeah. I took care of it. It's been about And it was dismissed. My ex-wife had had me arrested. Said that I >> 623. I'm >> said that I had said I had kicked her front door in. >> Okay. How long ago was that? >> Just about five, six years ago. She said that I done it, but it was proven the time she said that I had done it. It showed me opening the doors to the shop on camera and it was disproved and dismissed. and she dismissed it because I was going to go back and get her for false uh accusations and imprisonment because they gave me 24 hours for something I didn't do. >> And so that's the only time I've ever been arrested. >> Well, let me ask you, have you ever got a ticket? When's the last ticket that you've got of any kind? >> Last ticket that I got that was mine that I know that I've done >> was I know around 3 years ago and then I've took care of that. So, the only thing that and I I have had problems with my brother and like I had to like there's five different times I've had to prove that it wasn't me. Like I'd go to court and then the the officer the pulling over officer is like, "Well, that's not the man I promote." >> And it been my brother. It's because he's because he knows my driver's license by heart cuz he stole my driver's license got me in trouble. And then I told him he didn't return my driver's license and I was pressing charges and then next thing I out of nowhere my driver's license showed up in my mailbox. And so I've had to I've had to constantly prove myself. >> So what I would say you need to do then is for this it's a ticket. It's it's literally just a ticket. Like you're not going to go to prison. Nothing like that. Obviously driving under suspension what it says. >> I want to take care of this. I want to take care of what's in >> that's what I'm trying to tell you what you got to do. So what you need to do is you'll get a court date. It'll be scheduled for you. like that. So, I would bring anything you've got that shows like, "Hey, my brother's used my identity." Now, you need to call. Okay. Well, you said he's done it before. How do you know that he's done it? Like, how can you show that he's >> Well, in North Carolina, they What got me? What proved it last time is the officer had his body cam like yours >> and he [clears throat] pulled it up and showed that it was my brother cuz he looks like me, but he's just a little bit taller than me and he's skinnier. And the difference between him is the tattoos that we have. He's got more cuz he like I tell you when I say excuse my language but when I say a piece of [ __ ] is a piece of [ __ ] He's got WTS across his throat which means with the [ __ ] >> is stupid. Me I not with none of that man. I work I go home. I take care of my daughter and my wife. >> That's what I'm saying. Like we don't like take people jail for driving their suspensions. The state of Georgia says we have to. We don't have >> If Id have known it, I wouldn't been on. And I'm just done your side. So brother, I understand. I'm not mad at you. >> It ties me up longer and it's you'll be out of jail for I'm done my report. That's why I tell you it takes me so long to get my side done. But here's no deal. >> So what you need to do is that >> Yeah. I'm going to put you inside here in the air in a second. So what's going to happen? You need to reach out to that officer, whoever that officer was, whatever agency where that happened at. >> I don't know nothing about it. I have to figure it out. >> Well, where did you where did they pull the body camera up? Oh, that was the last time. >> That's what I'm talking about. >> That he had done it in Pender County in uh >> I can't remember if it was Rocky Point or Burgal area. >> Well, whoever is going to be whatever agency, you figure that out. You reach out to them, tell them they'll do a report when they charge somebody. So, if he's got charges and it wasn't his name, they're going to do a report that says like my on this date and time I was contacted by you that somebody had used his information. And if they determined that it was in fact not you, it was him, they'll put a report in there for that. That's the kind of stuff you'd have to bring to court to show, hey, this has happened to me. However, you can go to North Carolina to any DMV office and say, hey, my license is showing suspended. Can you tell me why? and they're going to tell you it's suspended for traffic offenses or a criminal offense, then they'll be able to figure out where it's from. Then you'll have to go to that agency and say, "Hey, my license is suspended. Why is it suspended?" And they're going to tell you if it's either a ticket that hasn't been paid or something's happened, if there's some type of a violation of some court law, maybe you got a ticket in the mail that you didn't go to. I mean, there's 100 different options it could be and it could be if he used your name. However, if it's not, then you know it's an unpaid ticket. It's just kind of one of those things that is what it is. And sometimes people do get tickets in the mail. >> What about a failure to pier? I don't >> Where where are you from in North Carolina? >> I'm from Brunswick County. It's like um a town I grew up in is called Ash. >> And it's right right on the uh South Carolina North Carolina border. >> I can't remember the name. She said like Tucks or Tuck Tuck County. North Carolina. I may have been wrong. That's where your license is suspended out of. There you go. So, >> your license got suspended in January 2024 indefinitely for a failure to appear on driving while license revoked is what your warrants. You have a warrant, but it's not in GCI. It's just when they look it up in their system. It shows up. >> But I know nothing of any of it. >> And I I'm just explaining to you what they told, >> right? >> So, that's where you need to go. That's why he's telling you. Tuck County. I don't even know a Tuck County unless it's uh he's he meant uh Burggo >> or Rocky Point. Those are all >> whoever it is, you can call like Brunswick, right? And get out and say, "Hey, I was pulled over here. They called you on the phone. They said my license was suspended." They can tell you that same information cuz they're not they're not hiding from you. You need to go get stuff taken care of. They're telling you >> I want my I need to take care of this. >> I mean, they're not trying we're not trying to keep anything secret. We're just trying to tell you, hey, these are the right people you need to reach out to because in Georgia, see, we don't share systems. So, if we could see it in Georgia, I can tell you who, what, when, and where, but obviously that's North Carolina, so systems don't line up. That's why we have to call everybody on the phone. So, >> yeah, man. I mean, let's do what we got to do, buddy. I mean, I don't I have >> Well, I'm just I'm trying to help you so you can figure it out down the road. >> Cuz I'm going to take care of it as soon as I bail out of here. >> I'm I guess I'll go to North Carolina to take care of it. Yeah, I forget what county she said, but it's not entered into the system, but like that local agency whenever they run you name and their date of birth, it says popping a fade to appear on drive is what it says. >> And I'm just telling you what they're saying. >> I understand. I'm just trying to understand Highway 17 >> and an officer come up behind me, asked me if I needed help or everything. I said, I'm fine, everything done. And he, you know, just doing his job, whatever. He run. He said, "You mind if I run you for anything?" Like, you're not in trouble. They run you for warrants. If your license is suspended, you're >> See, not everybody. Not everybody does the same thing. >> I had my driver's license on me. >> I know. That's what I'm saying. If you're disabled on the side of the road, >> we can't prove that you were driving. So, that's why you didn't say anything about the >> Well, if you had But if I had But if I had a warrant, then >> But if it's local, like they won't show. >> Whenever we run it, it's not showing. I had to call the agency that suspended your license. >> It's because of the crime. So, they're it's a local crime. So they're gonna get you locally, but like here they're not gonna come pick you up for a suspended license because it's so far. So they're not gonna tell you about go back. >> Well, no. We're just telling you. So this another thing to understand. >> He may he may not even ar you. He may just need to give you his license. We can't speak for him cuz not everybody does everything like they're supposed to, >> right? >> And it very well, like you said, if you're driving under suspension cuz like I told you, I don't want to take you to jail for driving under suspension. This is going to tie me up for like 3 hours. >> I get it, man. >> And I'm not telling you that to make you feel bad, but like we don't want to go through that. So that's probably why he didn't say nothing to you. So, he probably didn't want to be tied up with it either. So, >> well, fellas, y'all just doing your jobs. I can't be mad at y'all. I mean, I >> You're doing your jobs. >> If anything, I respect you, fell. >> You've been nice to us. We've been trying to be as nice as we can to you. But >> I mean, I understand >> once it's run through the system, our hands are tied. >> I understand. I'm not I'm not mess with you. >> Look, you know, you're doing you're doing what you can. >> I'm going to take you up here. >> All right. That way you can go ahead and get in and try to get out. It's like like I said, soon as you get there, you'll have a ball with you immediately. >> It's $710. 710. >> Jesus. >> It's It's preset by the state. That's not us picking that out. I can tell you that. >> They've got to take your pictures and fingerprints and then once they do that, anyone post if you get a bond, it'll be 10%. >> Well, I guess let's go ahead and go for I guess whoever shuts down. >> Yeah, you go ahead and take off. >> What time did they put like >> There is no magic. You just see it ain't like other states. Where I'm from, it's like they have to see a judge, but it's not here. >> I get out. >> Yeah. That's why I said you can go and get out. >> As soon as you get there and they start taking your pictures and your fingerprints, tell them you need >> Don't it seem pointless to have to go up there for that? It does. Don't >> you
