good afternoon everybody it is our absolute pleasure to have all the families here to witness all the outstanding work that is performed day in and day out by our deputies let's give them a round of applause for everything they do this is just a small sample of the work that occurs day in and day out by the men and women both sworn civilian in communications of this organization doing everything they can to keep this county safe mr robert martin is receiving the lasting impact award for sustained excellence in the field of property and evidence management and unparalleled leadership in the next segment of our program we're going to announce the unit combinations unit combinations are awarded to members of a department component group or team to distinguish them themselves during a particular period of time by an accomplishment of an unusual task or execution of duty in an exemplary manner right on to the accommodation citations the accommodation citation for swarm personnel is for an arrest or any police service showing exceptional courage intelligence or integrity in the performance of routine duty civilian personnel any service shows exceptional diligence intelligence or integrity in their performance of their routine duties medal of tactical de-escalation is awarded to sworn personnel who utilize exceptional tactical skills and or verbal approach or techniques to de-escalate any deadly force situation resulting in the saving or sustaining of a human life the life-saving actions awards is for direct action by a deputy which do not place the deputy in imminent physical danger but result in the deputy successfully and or contributing to saving a life the agency's second highest medal the medal of valor is awarded for an extraordinary act of courage without regard to personal safety while engaged in actual combat with an armed and dangerous adversary the volusia sheriff's office is honored to award the medal of valor to sergeant o marvelo sergeant william maxwell detective donald gray detective michael sawicki deputy anthony ray and deputy nicole richardson [Applause] it takes both sworn and civilian employees to make the sheriff's office successful in closing today's event we would like to honor the 2021 annual award recipients for volunteer of the year chaplain melinda lewis for detective of the year detective michael vanzo for deputy of the year deputy lucha mendoza i want to thank everybody especially the families um you know like i said in the beginning i'm a second generation cop i've been doing this for 35 years and i can tell you the biggest support system my father had and that i have is my family and the fact that you're here supporting your loved ones and get to see some stuff they probably don't come home and tell you about it's a great testament to the men and women in your families we are so grateful to have them you know this organization is only as good as the people that are in it and as you see today i think god has blessed us with an awful lot of incredible people that work here in volusia county [Music] me [Music] hmm [Music] [Music] hmm [Music] [Music] [Music] hmm [Music] you
