a predator has been responsible for the apprehension of hundreds of predators resulting in countless children being spared lifelong trauma the focus of their 275th case paul westwood was the perfect representation of the monsters they were trying to stop for several days westwood set about grooming the persona of 13 year old kaylee who he had met on myspace he put himself in the role of her protector and showered her with compliments and affection slowly and carefully he gauged her reaction to physical contact by saying that he would like to cuddle tickle and even kiss her the more accepting she seemed to be the more explicit he became when the opportunity of kaley being home alone presented itself westwood practically leaped at the chance and drove across state lines from ohio to kentucky to meet here hi paul i'm catherine reed i'm an agent with the kentucky bureau of investigation this is detective tom nixie with the campbell county police department and they read you your rights earlier and you know that you're under arrest you're in custody you're not going home tonight um but we need to take care of some housekeeping issues first he did go over your rights correct and you understood them yeah okay can i have your home address first how long have you lived there since january i'm roaming with my sister right now so is it her home okay do you share the whole house or do you live in a certain part of it i share the house i sleep in the basement you sleep in the basement okay so is that where you do most of your living yeah the majority of it does she come give up without a struggle and ended up shooting both officer james rowe and james i'm sure that you have a side of your story and i know what i've seen i know what i've read about i've looked at the um when i originally decided to do that um i was i was having second thoughts and i was i had a i had a feeling just because i watched too many police shows now you said when you originally decided to months sometimes i don't go into the chat room for a couple of days or a week because i'm busy and tired on the weekends sometimes i like to just relax and get on and chat with the friends of mine who are on there so where where are you when you chat in my room at home the address you gave us yeah in the basement [Music] do you have one pc two one okay you have a webcam [Music] anything else that you use like the pda or trio so that you can stay connected everybody's connected these days just the cam and the computer okay so is it a pc or a laptop you see okay and when you started um do you like go through like yahoo to chat or what do you go through chat i mean what do you go through to chat well i go on a myspace chat room um the ohio myspace chat room um that's where i've been recently is that where you met kylie tell me how you found her tell you the truth i'm not really sure all i know is that i went into the ohio chat room one night somehow we just stroke up a conversation westwood isn't doing himself any favors he claims that he got nervous about going which shows he knew it was wrong he then chose to go anyway in spite of worrying it might be a sting which shows how desperate he was to be with a minor i exchanged we exchanged instant messenger ids i think well we didn't chat in private until we went into the yahoo instant messenger then exchanged information um you know gave her my name and age um she's she seemed okay with it as i said i've never chatted with anyone under in their 20s this time you were okay with her being 13 yeah it was just uh first it was regular you know regular chatting we didn't really get how can i put that i didn't really get involved in special chats she mentioned that she was with a boy two years older than she was and told me how that went you asked her how that went off the top of my head i don't know the specifics all i know is you know i asked her how it went and how she liked it and what all they did together i i just i just don't know what made me want to follow through on it um as i said i left the house once and changed my mind okay i wish i stayed with my gut feeling you know yeah so once you what did what did you all talk to talk about before you planned on coming over you mentioned about special talk yeah you said that you didn't really have special chat in the beginning what what's special chat well what i what i consider special chats is um cyber it's hybrid pretending role playing yeah so did you have any of those early on no just not to my knowledge okay what about before you came over i basically when we when we set it back up i basically asked her to wear a skirt she told me when we originally decided to meet we were going to meet at the bowling alley across the street she told me what she was going to wear told her what i was going to wear now there was a little more conversation than that prior to determining where you were going to meet about kissing and hugging yeah i was i was one i was mentioning to her that i i'm romantic i'm i'm compassionate or i wouldn't mind kissing her something i've never done all right it went beyond that as well yeah i i don't remember what i said to tell you the truth did you chat a lot do i chat a lot yeah with with women my own age or in the neighborhood so you have a lot of cyber chat where you role play and you talk about sex yeah with with women over 20. like almost every other predator westwood claims that he doesn't remember the specifics of the conversations he has had it's pointless because reed already has the chat logs at her disposal westwood also tries to emphasize that he mostly talks to women his own age reid refrains from telling him that if he had stuck to those options he wouldn't have landed himself in jail fine well let's talk about specifically what you said to her since you don't remember we just need some clarity just some clarification that's all we're looking for is and i think you're you're you're being honest with us and that's all we're looking for trying to be and you know um i just want to understand you know where we were going with this i don't know and if you can explain it for me then you know it makes things i'm cool with it he's cool with it i'm to tell you the truth i'm i've never i'm not saying i've never chatted before you know that's that's a given but as i said i've never chatted with anyone under i'll say 20 to be safe you know most of the women i i meet are in their 30s and 40s and it's just you know fun chat well let's let's uh talk about this emotional manipulation by presenting himself as lonely and needing someone he was playing on her sympathies and the natural need to please others that is common in teens if she refused she would have been hurting him and the sense of guilt would have led her to do things outside of her comfort zone this is how many young girls are lured into these types of situations and i thought we could keep each other company you think he would have wanted more i don't know i mean you're lonely i understand and a lot of things are on your mind divorce separation um those are those are natural feelings i understand [Music] do you think once you got up here cuddling and being together watching movies you think there could have been a point where possibly could have went further well i would try to draw the line at cuddling in your chat you specifically uh told her that you'd like to have oral sex somebody would have went a little bit further a little bit yeah and you graphically talked about how you would do that in her breasts you talked about staying the night you talked about her being sexy in her nightgown that you'd be rubbing her thighs massaging and kissing her breasts and then you talk to her about if she had ever gone down on a guy the guy that she had been with and then you talk about that this aroused you that you were ready to masturbate to ejaculate from from the conversation a there's there's a few uh around 15. okay and have you ever tried to meet her no how long ago was that how long ago did i meet him yeah yeah at least a year okay and what'd you guys talk about his normal stuff sports school activities did you get into a little bit of discipline too not with not with most of them but you did with someone um it was the same type of talk that you had here with uh kylie i think tops but basically the same yeah okay um on your computer at your place there uh there is any type of pictures of miners or anything on there is there nothing i'm aware of okay you don't do you visit any type of you know early legal or anything like that underage any type of websites or anything like that that you're aware of no okay nothing like that would be would be on there westwood has been calm and almost motionless up to this point when asked if there's any illegal material on his computer he almost immediately starts nervously rubbing his hand it is a strong indication of lying and you can practically hear the warrant writing itself see what about you said you had a webcam have you ever exchanged any explicit photographs or any pictures of you masturbating or while you're cybering a more interactive situation where you can see them and they can see you not with minors but it may be on your computer i'm not sure photographs of you through the web oh um it might be i don't know you know all i know about that webcam is that it's just a live feed it doesn't save any still pictures okay but have you exposed yourself i mean can't tell you or anything not the miners okay have you ever sent any uh pornographic pictures to other adults to other adults yeah yeah you know the other friends of mine okay are these men women it's women so you term them as friends okay what um sets them aside from someone who you may be interested in having a relationship or are you interested i am interested in one specifically for a potential relationship we've been she lives in in oklahoma and we basically talk every night not online but we talk every night we've we've chatted on our nights off in this particular chat with kylie there you referred to another person that you were chatting with do you remember who that was yeah yeah she's she's 19. her name is her name is brenda is that her screen name or is that her name that she's well i believe it's her name because she also uses it as her screen name just brenda no numbers or no that's a 19 year old you were talking about yeah okay from oklahoma no uh that one is a 47 year old okay um so you don't discriminate as far as how old or young they are no i'm going to be right back i'll step on for a second is there a chance i can get a glass of water yeah i'll take care of that for you in a few minutes um go ahead well i'm just wanting to know what's uh what's going to happen from here well at this point we're going to write up your citation and we're going to get you transported to the local jail and then they'll process you there and then you'll have an arraignment and set your bail i don't know that it may be monday before that happens or later so you're going to be spending the night at least um so will i well will i be able to well the two main questions i have is am i going to be able to attend church tomorrow and am i going to be able to go back to work on monday you're not going to be going to church tomorrow okay i live with that i don't know about work that's going to depend on when you're arraigned and when your bail set so i can't make any promises on that the idea that there is any possibility of westwood leaving the jail anytime soon borders on the delusional reed breaks it to him gently even though she knows there is no way he will be going to work on monday westwood is foolish enough to even want to once word gets out it is doubtful he will be welcome okay right now one of my most important questions i know i know i did something wrong okay i and can you give me your address one more time phone number okay in that emergency phone number you're a non-resident of kentucky marital status separated okay is the information on your id here height weight all that correct height 510 510 and i weigh with 216. hair color brown and i color hazel oh um social security number and why are you employed and that's where uh westchester is it one word or two two so okay do you ever use computer there no and so you gave them your vehicle information as well right yeah what should do you work at the distribution second 1987. judging by the worried look in westwood's eyes he is realizing that this is going to affect his job as well the police are not going to take his word that he doesn't have computer access while at work and they will be making calls to check up and possibly confiscate any electronic devices paul westwood was charged with a felony count of traveling with intent to engage in illicit sexual conduct a subsequent warrant for the search of his home computer was granted and on it police discovered illegal images of minors westwood was sentenced to three years in prison after pleading guilty to a felony count of pandering sexually oriented matter involving a minor during this time he received an extra 51 months for attempting to meet a child for sex following his release westwood was ordered to serve a 20-year term of supervised release and register as a sex offender westwood must update his status with law enforcement every 90 days for the rest of his life hopefully you enjoyed the video if you did
