Teenager on trial accused of beating a man to death in a fit of road rage in Kent County last fall. didn't take the stand today, but the jury still got to hear the suspect's own words. Interrogation room video was played in court despite defense efforts to stop some of it from being played. Jovial. Remorseful. Mad. Jurors got to see video, some of which the defense wanted kept out of trial. It's suspect Christian Hillman talking with detectives about why he badly beat 64-year-old William McFarland in an incident that killed the man. He makes it clear this was no accident. And now prosecutors want him to pay. This video contains the interrogation of a teenager who beat an older man to death during a fit of road rage. Christian Hillman had never been the type to handle confrontation well. He was brash and argumentative and tried to project the image of a streetwise tough guy. His love for driving and restoring motorbikes was an outlet, but even that was not enough to keep him out of trouble. One evening, he managed to get into an altercation with another driver, 64-year-old William McFarland. The two pulled into a church parking lot where the fight became physical. Hillman easily overpowered the older man and viciously kicked him until he was unconscious, resulting in injuries that would end his life a month later. Okay. Um Here here here's the deal, okay? I called you, you graciously answered the phone, asked you to come in, you like, "Yeah, absolutely." We've been doing this a long time. All I'm going to ask you, and I say this to everyone, and I expect you to come in here and lie to us, just be honest. Okay. Oh oh yeah, yeah. I'll be I'll be 100 with you, bro. Okay. All right. Um you know why you're here, Oh yeah, for sure. So and so we don't have to, you know, jump through that for an hour and a half. Tell us what happened tonight. Okay, so I was riding my four-wheeler and I was riding my dirt bike, you know, it's like late at night out in the country, you know, like we live on some gravel roads and everything. So we just What's your address? Who do you live there with? I live with both of my parents. Mom? Yeah, mom and dad. Any other siblings? So you say you have a four-wheeler? Yes. And uh just the four-wheeler? I have a Do you know much about bikes? Not really. I mean, no. No. I know what a dirt bike is. You know You know a lot about bikes? I know a lot. I hate to brag here, bro, but I love my I bikes. I got a 1972 Harley Sportster. I got a I got a Suzuki RMZ 250. I got a Harley 1450 uh Super Glide. Let's see. Yamaha TTR 230 and I got a 1985 Kawasaki. Wow. I love my motorcycles, man. So, where do you store Hm? Where do you Where do you store all these bikes? WELL, I I live in a decent-sized house. So, my parents just built a shed outside just to keep all the bikes in and everything. And do you work on them, too, or you just Oh, yeah, for sure, man. They They take a lot of work. I can believe that. All right. A lot of money, too. You got a job working anywhere right now? Yeah, and the the thing was there like the atmosphere and everything there, it was just really upsetting to me cuz the manager there had actually actually asked me like he I thought he was joking. But uh like a really well-dressed black man walked into the store. And he started walking around and he was just he was just doing his own thing, you know, just getting groceries. And my supervisor just he said, "Hey, I want you to go follow that black dude around and make sure he doesn't steal anything." Hillman may be making up this story to make himself look good. Suspects frequently do this when they are accused of a violent crime. I quit that job real quick. Cuz I'm not putting up with that [ __ ] bro. Sure. So, tonight you were riding what? Let me name off like five or six. What were you riding tonight? I was riding my Arctic Cat 250 four-wheeler and my Yamaha TTR 230 because all my other bikes are broken right now and need to be fixed. Arctic Cat what? An Arctic Cat 250. 250? Arctic Cat DVX 250. It's all beat and everything. What color is it? Um it's blue. Stuff and fenders missing off and It's not the best bike, but gets the job done. The Arctic Cat? Yeah, the Oh, yeah, the Arctic Cat 250, the four-wheeler is red. Okay, that's red. Okay. And what was the bike, I'm sorry? Uh Yamaha TTR 230. I I cannot tell you what year it See, come on, you got to slow down, man. I'm not a bike dude, so Oh, yeah, I feel you. I feel Yamaha what? It's a Yamaha TTR 230. Okay. That's a dirt bike. Yeah, it it's it's like a trail bike. It's not really like a motocross bike. Color is that? What color is it? Color is that one? The Yamaha? It is It's like a dark blue. Um and it's got some lighter spots on the paint. Okay. Just blue? Yeah, just blue pretty much. But it's got some white on it. Yeah, it's detailed and everything. Right. So leading up So, were you home all night tonight? No. Okay. I got I got home for a little while and you know, like I live way out in the country. Sure. You So, like they basically out there like I've seen police officers out there. I would ride my dirt bike down the road. They just wave to me and everything. Absolutely. Yeah, it's so far it's so far out in the country. Everybody rides their dirt bikes out there. Right. But now to get to the actual story of what happened tonight. Um me and my buddies we were riding and all of a sudden this guy in this truck just pulled up behind me. And you were on what? What were you driving? What was I driving? Yeah. I was driving the TTR 230. Okay. You got to look that bike up, nice man. I will. It's nice, man. But anyhow, um the guy in the truck pulled up behind me and started blaring his horn at me. The man in the truck was 64-year-old William McFarland. And I had no idea why. Let me ask you this. Where were you at when you were riding and this guy pulled up behind you? Where were you at? Well, I don't know if you guys know the area. I do. I used to work there years ago when I worked for street maintenance. I worked there. Oh, yeah, for sure. But, um, do you know like 52nd and Whitney Road? I know where 52nd where the railroad tracks are there. Yes. Okay. You're a local. Yeah, G, bro. Right. Right. But, um, yeah, we were taking So, were you on Whitney Road coming south or were you on 52nd? Which way were you going? Which way is south from there? Cascade runs this way. 52nd comes south on You know what I mean? Yes, but you have to take a right to get on the Cascade. So, I took a left. Okay. I passed the railroad tracks. Cuz there's usually like this dirt road we like to ride down. It's a lot of fun. Okay. So, you're near 52nd and Whitney Road. Yeah, oh, yeah. Like right a few houses down. The police already stopped by my house today. Okay. Okay. Yeah. Some detectives. Oh, wow. I don't know. I was really mad at my mom though because she just let them right in the house and everything. I wasn't there. Sure. Yeah. I I know nothing about that. Um, I don't know why that would be, but Yeah, I was frankly irritated by that. Was that before this incident or after? After. Oh. Oh, after the incident. Okay. I got you, man. Earlier in the day. All right, let's let's get with it. So, you're 52nd and Whitney Road area. Yeah. You're on the dirt bike. ATV? Yes. Okay. And some guy in a truck. What does the truck look like? I think I think it was a Chevy Silverado. And I think it was black as well. But, anyhow, he pulls up behind you. Yeah, he pulls up behind me and and you I It's more for like people who like ride motorcycles and people are tailgating someone on a motorcycle, one slip-up and you're dead because that next car is going to run you over. Right. So I I kept stopping and I kept asking like, "Hey, what are you doing?" What do you mean you stop and ask? Like you talked to him or you're just kind of giving him motions? Yeah, I I was I was like, "What are you doing?" He was trying like he wouldn't go by me. He just kept riding my ass. So basically I stopped for a second and he started getting all mad and getting out of the car and everything. And I was like, "I don't want trouble or anything." But and he he put his hands around my neck. And um and there was a thorough ass beating after that. Okay. Honestly, I feel like I was in self-defense though. You feel like what? Self-defense though because he really did attack me first. Okay. Yeah. Okay. So what do? Oh no, he he he was already down the street. He didn't see it happen, but he pulled right up at the last second. Oh. Okay. Yeah, so he really didn't witness anything as a matter of fact. Who else was with you guys? It was three of you. It was like and then um my came and picked us up. And then What driver? Right. What was he what? Wait, the witnesses saw three people on ATVs and and dirt bikes. There There was only two of us. Okay. Witnesses saw three, so Wait. He's a good dude. You know. What What does he look like? Is he Is he a Is he a black guy, white guy? Is No clue. But it's like How do I explain him? He's a white dude, got really long hair. Okay. Look Look I just want you guys to know that he had absolutely nothing to do with this. I I wasn't there. I wasn't there, man. So. He has really long hair? Yeah. What color? Uh it's like darker brown. Hillman's friend took a picture of Hillman after the attack and posted it on social media. I just released another extremely intense interrogation on my Patreon. This time about a son of a millionaire being interrogated for the death of his father. His trial was the longest and most expensive trial in the history of Saint John. Watch it right now at patreon.com/strangerstoriesplus. Okay. Is he taller than you, shorter? than me. Not by a like a really long ways, but Can I put these handcuffs on? No. All right. Those aren't handcuffs. Those are ankle cuffs. They go around your ankle. Hell yeah. So you're you're you're riding the the ATV, this truck pulls up behind you. And it's just kind of following. Yeah, like he turned his brights on. He was trying He like he tried to run me off the road. Like I just It's a small dirt bike. He pulled up beside and he started pushing me off to the side of the road like I almost crashed a couple times. And that's when I was starting to get irritated because I mean that's just disrespectful. Mhm. Like I he like I had lights. Mhm. And he clearly could see that I had lights but um Like I don't know what he was saying. Was it already dark at this point? Yes. It's dark out? Yeah. And he Basically what happened is I I I asked him like why are you following me? Like why are you cuz I pulled over to a church parking lot to let him go by and he stopped. And then I I honestly think he was intoxicated. Mhm. Because he got out and he was slurring his words and everything. Okay. This church parking lot where where is that? Do you know what church it was? He said you pulled over. You tried to pulled over in your church parking lot. I don't think I know what church it is. Further down 52nd Street. Mhm. Honestly I do not remember the name of the church. Okay. So you pulled over and and you said he got out of the truck? Yeah, he he got out of the truck and he was like what are you going to do when What does this guy look like? Is he like young dude or No, he was like maybe 35 40. Okay. And he got out of the car and he put Big guy or small guy? Oh, he was a big dude but he he got out of he got out of the car and he put his hands around my neck like he was trying to strangle me. Did he say anything? Yeah, he was he was talking a lot of stuff. Was anyone around besides you? Uh yeah, some other people pulled up. Who pulled up? I just have no idea who those people were. They were just uh bystanders. Did they say anything or Not really. They just looked. They They saw him put his hands around your neck? Um Who could have put Okay. But these bystanders, I mean, they They were after everything was over. Yeah. You said he wasn't involved in in the beat down. So, how would he see when he put his hands around your neck? Well, he was there at first, but as soon as the fight started, that's when he wanted to shoot out. Okay. So, he put his hands around your neck and you it was like a really hard. It wasn't just like a play thing. He was trying to strangle me. And then what did you do? Well, like I used I used to be an ex-heavyweight boxer. So, he basically he hit me in the face once and then I just lost my [ __ ] Okay. Like I just I don't know. Like I really feel bad about it. Like I really don't like resorting to violence. Like I hate violence, man, but I just lost my temper. Okay. Well, what did you do? I mean, you lost your temper. Did you yell at him? Did you spit on him? I I don't know what that means. I wasn't there. So, you lost your temper. What What did you do? When the Explain the beat down. What was the beat down? Well, basically he he tried to hit me up. He was like, "Oh, shit." He would I I I can guarantee you he was intoxicated. Okay. And he got out of the car and he was like, "What are you going to do?" Try to put his hands on my neck and everything, grab my neck. So, I got him off me and I hit him in the face a few times. He started to like stumble down. With what? With what? What What did you hit him with? My hands. Okay. Okay. And then um Basically, after that I kept I kept hitting him and I was telling him to please stay down before I have to hurt you more. Once McFarland was on the ground, Hillman began to kick him with his steel-toed boots. Like I really don't like hurting people, but he was going to hurt me if I didn't stop it. Okay. So, I I just had to completely make sure that he was immobilized. He couldn't hurt me. He couldn't hurt my friends. Your friends. Who is your friends? Just if any of other one of my boys would have pulled up like I don't want him freaking out and hit me either. Like I I caused the situation and I take like full responsibility for my actions. Mhm. So all you did was punch him and when he was on the ground, you kept punching him. Yeah. That's all? Were you punching him in the face, in the foot, in the arm? I I don't Where were you hitting him? Well, I kind of lost control for a second to be honest with you, officer. Okay. But um like I said, see I So So then it sounds like you you gave him a beat down. That's the way you described it, right? And then what How did it end? What What happened at the end? Well, he was he was just laying there. So, I really knocked him out cold cuz I didn't want him to get back up. Okay. And so after that, me and my buddies just took off and went back to my house, sat down for a minute, contemplated what happened. You and your buddies. Who I mean you said it three times. I mean, who else was with you? You said you and your buddies at the beginning, you just said it. So, you Who else was there? I know you're afraid that you don't want to get this person in trouble cuz he may have been there and not been The fact of the matter is it's three of you. So, I mean, we we know this. Oh, yeah. Well, there was Okay. But, he came a little bit later. Okay. As a matter of fact, you know, I really I don't know. What did he Did he live near you or I have no idea. He He just comes over with my friends once in a while and I hang out with them. Okay. So, I'm not really like affiliated with him or anything. So, you guys do the beat down or you do the beat down and you go back to your place? Yeah. Okay. Now, what was Ryan dri- riding? What was he What was his bike or ATV? What was he riding? Oh, he he wasn't on an ATV. What was he Was he riding with He was He was in a Jeep. Okay. He was in a Jeep. Okay. Um So, you guys go back to your house and then what happened? Were your people at home at your house when you went back there? Uh we just got back and um We We just hung out for a little bit. You said you contemplated and talked about what happened. What were What were you guys talking about? And what You said that after he was gurgling the guy was gurgling and you contem- You guys left, got out of there, and you contemplated on what had took place. What were you guys talking about? Like afterwards? Mhm. No, then we were starting to forget about it. Like I lost my temper. I did I I really hate being angry. Sure. Like that's that's one of the worst things of worst feelings, but What uh How long So, what time is it by now? Do you know? Right now? No, when you when this incident happened and when you left and got back home. Oh, man. Um What time is it right now? It's like 1:00 in the morning now. Oh, for real? Yeah, 1:20. Wow. I'm surprised you guys are still up this late, to be honest. What time did you guys get back from after riding? Do you know? You don't know, you don't know. Oh, like no, right after all that stuff happened, we drove Do you know what time all that took place or no? Uh I was riding my bike, so I didn't really have time to look at my phone. So, then you Where do you Where do you put these bikes and ATVs and Where Where did you put them? In a shed or Where Where did you put them? They're in my garage. Okay. So, then you put those in the garage and then what did you guys do? The same thing as usual. We just shut the garage doors, shut the ATV and the dirt bike in there. Then went inside, smoked a couple cigarettes. Really, we didn't do much else, to be honest. Then where did you go? Well, I went to and my Maybe not here. Okay. Hillman left McFarland unconscious in the parking lot and did not bother to call 911. No. Where's he live? He Yeah. Okay. All right. Well, y'all almost lied me up. No. Well, we need you to be completely honest with everything. Oh, I'm I'm being completely honest with you guys. You're not being completely honest with everything, okay? And you know, and you know, I don't want to appreciate you you you're trying to come up with a story that yeah, it was self-defense and this guy grabbed me by the neck and I don't have the forms with me, but do you realize there was an event at the church when this whole thing took place? You were so angry you did not realize who was around. Who was watching, who was listening. So, you know, what I said earlier, and I know you're concerned, you said, "I don't know, I don't want to You got to be honest, okay? And and I'm not yelling, screaming, I'm being just I'm giving you the straight up you're being cool, bro. I'm just you got to be honest, you know, like I've done this job way too long to know one, you're not giving us certain names because I think this might be your boy, you don't want to tell on your boy, blah blah blah. We're going to find out. So, that's not going to help you out when we find or if it was another couple guys, I don't know. We'll We'll figure it out. But, the thing is you're not being 100% honest, okay? Because there's two sides to the story, okay? One is yours, two and three is your buddy's, four is the victim. So, then you kind of look, all right, is the victim's story going to match up to your story? But, in this case it's easy cuz we can take your story out and the victim's story out and we can talk to witnesses who don't know you and don't know the victim. So, for a case like this, it's simple. I mean, we just talked to the witness. What did you see? What did you hear? Who did what? Who did what next? It's It's It's better than catching it on video because you have witnesses who don't even know you and don't know It's different if I say, "Christian, yeah, we got two witnesses." Well, who are they? Well, it's the victim's cousins. Well, then that doesn't make sense. Of course, they're going to say you did this. These are church folks who were leaving a church, driving off, and witnessed this whole thing go down. And you guys didn't realize that they're standing watching this thing go down. They watched what you did, what you guys did. They heard what was said and what happened, and that's how we ended up there is cuz they were the ones who called 911. Is that I don't I don't understand though. So, your story is not even close to what these witnesses, these poor folks, saw. Not true. Can I get an attorney in here? What's that? Can I get an attorney in here? It's up to you. No, I'd like one right now. Hillman is irritated that the detectives are skeptical of his story and decides he wants a lawyer present. Okay. All right. Oh, look at that. Put these Oh, hell yeah. I never had these on before. Yeah, you're going to have them on now. You think that's cool? What's cool? Having those on. I I know it's it's just a new experience. Okay. But I But I mean you almost like think it's like cool. Do you think it's cool to be here right now? I mean no, I don't think it's cool. I don't think it's cool somebody put their hands on my neck too and threaten me. That's not That's not cool. But But here's the other thing I want you to realize, okay? You asked for an attorney, so I'm not asking any questions. I'm just going to talk for a second. Yeah, go for it. All right? How old are you? Yeah. Okay? And you walked up in here and you're talking to my partner calling him bro. He's over twice your age. You should be calling him sir. I did call him sir. What What I'm sitting here listening to while I'm sitting here in my chair is listening to kid who thinks that he's just talking with two guys instead of understanding the gravity of why he's sitting in this room. Okay? old And you need to grow up, young man. Sir, if you please stop raising your voice. No, I will not because you know what? You are not going to tell me what to do. I will I will file a complaint on you. DO IT. DO IT. GO AHEAD. GO GET ME MY [ __ ] LAWYER, [ __ ] You think THIS IS FUNNY? DON'T YOU YOU SEE WHAT I MEAN? [ __ ] SITTING THERE CALLING ME A [ __ ] I never even called YOU A CALLING MY PARTNER A [ __ ] I NEVER EVEN CALLED YOU A [ __ ] REALLY? WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY? THAT'S YOUR PROBLEM. THAT'S WHY YOU DON'T understand the gravity of why you're sitting in this chair at 1:30 in the morning. old kid who thinks he's a tough guy. And you want us to sit there and believe that you're just driving down the road on your ATV and this guy's honking his horn and you didn't do nothing wrong. You got an attitude and it shows by the way you're talking to my partner and me. He was a sir. year old Hey, he also put his hands on her. Okay. Okay. So, you going to say that to all these other witnesses saw what happened. And when we talk to your boys, I guarantee you their story isn't going to be the same. Oh, cuz they're going to look out for themselves. Cuz they're not going to tell you [ __ ] cuz Okay. Okay. And when we get all the evidence out here The detectives deliberately provoke Hillman and discover that his temper flares easily and he can't handle confrontation. the garage and everything else, it's a Y'all going to what? We're doing a search warrant at your house right now. All right, and you're all right, huh? Yep. Yeah. All right, we'll get my attorney in here right now. no idea who you're playing with. Yep. Oh, believe me, I do. the ATV, the bike is coming out of the garage right now, the blood all in the garage, everything. WE HAVE IT ALL. THERE'S NO blood in the garage, cuz. Okay. All right. Okay. You slipped up, buddy. You got A LOT OF GROWING UP TO DO. I'M BRINGING MY ATTORNEY IN HERE. YOU GET me an attorney. I'M BRINGING AN attorney in here. OH, YEAH, REALLY? I'M GOING TO SUE THE [ __ ] Y'all [ __ ] don't know WHO I AM. WE'RE NOT WE'RE NOT COOPERATING. HOW ABOUT YOUR RIGHT to an attorney, [ __ ] You You do that. I'M GETTING AN ATTORNEY IN HERE RIGHT NOW. And you can get one. And then you go over to the jail and then you can call and get an attorney. Okay. Where the [ __ ] am I going to jail for? You'll find out. You'll find out. Big tough guy. You're tough guy. You know all the answers, bro. Y'all some [ __ ] bro. What's up? Hey, what's good? Can I get you a glass of water, man? Yes, that's All right, cool. Uh just so you know, we're we're doing a search warrant at your house right now. So, my boss is out there at the house. They got a search warrant. Magistrate signed it. So, um But, I got nothing to hide in my house, man. I I I I know. I I hear you, but I'm just letting you know what's what's going on. I mean, I don't want you to think that I'm bullshitting you or anything. I'm I'm not making Oh, no, yeah, but yeah, you keeping it 100, bro. And uh you there is blood inside of that inside of that garage. And In my garage? Christian Okay. I I I don't know how what else what other way to tell you, man. I'm I'm not making this up, Okay. Oh, yeah, I know you're not making it up. You're a cop. of your garage, yes. There's blood inside of your garage. Hillmann was covered in blood as seen in the photo his friend posted online. Okay. So that's what we're dealing with right now. Okay. And we're in the process of find I understand. Okay. Oh, yeah, I understand. So, what's going on with the attorney situation? We don't get you an attorney. get you an attorney. That's on you to get an attorney. Okay, but I'm supposed to be publicly appointed one. You don't understand how the process works, do you? It's not our job. Well, who whose job is it? Cuz I'm not about to answer I'm not about to answer a bunch more questions. I know We're not asking We're not asking you any questions, Christian. The one question that we asked was since you said you wanted an attorney. Well, I mean I mean the thing is he put me in these for absolutely no damn reason. I'm just sitting here cooling. Okay. Okay. I I don't understand it. You're being detained right now, okay? We're not asking you any questions, and it's not our job to call to get you an attorney. It's not our job. Then whose job is it? Yours. Okay, well, I need my phone to do that. You just hang tight, Christian. We're going to get search warrant done and we'll kind of then. decide what's going to happen next, okay? How can we get a hold Really? You guys don't need to contact them. They had nothing to do with it. Well, here's the thing. You're not running this investigation, so it's not your decision on who we're going to talk to. Well, yeah, but they're not going to talk to you. How do you know? You don't know what somebody else is going to do. Oh, but damn sure I do. Okay. By telling the detectives that his friends will not talk to them, Hillman has just let them know he has something to hide. Hey, y'all, get my attorney too. Hey, yo, we don't do that. All right, well, give me my [ __ ] phone so I can call my lawyer, [ __ ] She wants to come in here and [ __ ] y'all [ __ ] up. I was trying to be polite as hell for the first thing. Y'all are asking me some questions and [ __ ] Trying to be all nice to y'all. Then old Billy badass over here thinks he He has a badge, she's one bad [ __ ] Play that [ __ ] And I'm just going to let y'all know too, that y'all not let me see an attorney, I'm going to sue the [ __ ] out of you. Y'all going to lose some [ __ ] bands, [ __ ] Good luck, man. I appreciate it, bro. I don't know something got me super [ __ ] up. What? You don't know something got me super [ __ ] up? I'm going to tell them that my shoes were [ __ ] up. What's going on? Well, right now I am in the Kent County Police Department. I am chained to the floor and they were refusing me to give me an attorney. Well, we can afford one. What are they charging you with? No, no, this this is this is the thing, Dad. Like literally, they will not get me a public appointed attorney and that's their job. Just because we can afford one, they don't have to get you one. That's not the way they do things. All right, well, you I'm not saying I'm not saying I'm not jailed or anything. I'm sorry. Like somebody's going to have to be on the O. I will be over there. Yeah, you damn sure can. What are you arrested for? Well, for for for getting in a fight with that dude. Hillman isn't truthful with his father and slants the story in his favor. This shows a very telling insight into his personality. I shouldn't I shouldn't even brought my ass down here. They're pulling me They're trying to pull that good guy bad guy [ __ ] That shit's hilarious. They think they got that [ __ ] all figured out like they're some OG's or some [ __ ] I [ __ ] 12. I DON'T GIVE A [ __ ] about them [ __ ] Listen, try to get what you need to get your new things worked out. Just talk to them. No, but the the only problem This is what I'm not understanding here. Is they will not give me an attorney, which is supposed to be present during this time. They have me shackled They have me shackled to the floor. I am not violent. I have no weapons. They have me [ __ ] chained to the floor. All right. I said I don't know what what to do about it. I don't know if I can get you an attorney tomorrow or not. Why did you let them in the house? Cuz they had a warrant. Oh, they had a warrant? Yes. I'm sure they don't want to wear your dirty underwear. All right. No I think This is not a laughing matter. I know. I'm sorry, Christian. Yeah, like in the I'm really [ __ ] pissed. They have me chained to the floor. They chained you to the floor? Yes. I'm [ __ ] pissed. What did they They chained you to the floor? Yes. Can you come down here like right now and settle this [ __ ] out? Cuz I'm not having it. They refuse to give me an attorney. They will not have a publicly appointed attorney come in here so I can talk with them. And that's my rights. Yeah? And so they break my rights. So basically I'm coming back and I'm suing them for everything they have. J. Christian. Look look You got me [ __ ] chained to the floor. You're laying on the floor with your chains. Yeah. You just come down here. Well, I I guess the guy is here right now, so I can't leave. [ __ ] those [ __ ] I need help more I do. I need a lot more help than what they do they're doing right now. Yeah, listen but I can't leave. Um I can't even go downstairs in the basement or anything. Why? Because um they're doing a search. What floor are you anyhow? I am in the Kent County jail right now. Neither of Hillman's parents sound like they want to get involved. His father can tell that Hillman is deliberately making the situation worse and he may be tired of getting his son out of trouble. Is that the one Um Kent County um Like I I don't I I don't knock on the door but these [ __ ] ass [ __ ] have me sitting in the chain can't even reach the door to knock on it. Oh. Yeah. I I just I just really need you down here. Okay. So leave right now. Like I can't leave. These guys are are doing their job and I can't leave. You know? And my phone is dying by the way. I really need you to be here. So So are you at the Kent County jailhouse? Yes. Is that what That's that what you call it? Well, actually Damn it. Hang on. I'm I'm going to This is going to be a struggle. Listen to my Well, Christian, you can use your phone and I'll call you back. Well, I'd rather not. I'd rather have it I'd rather have you come to I am going to. You coming down here? Yes, I am. As soon as I get a chance, I will. All right, love I think it's called the And you're in the Kent County. It's Kent County. It's not with the Sheriff's Department. Um like what's the like precinct? Kent County Sheriff's Department. Kent County Sheriff's? Yeah, I'm at the Kent County Sheriff's Department. That's how you say Bro, could you please get this [ __ ] off my way? I'm going to follow policy. I I feel I understand it, bro. This shit's uncomfortable as hell, man. I mean, it's not made for comfort, man. All right, bro. Yeah. that's cuz I do have to put my phone in somewhere. Okay, well, I I really I really need y'all to come down here and bail me out. Okay. Okay, I will. All right, so when am I supposed to be seeing you? Well, I don't know when the gentleman will be here. So, I don't I don't know when he's going to be here. My phone's on a low battery right now, too, and I'm pretty much [ __ ] Okay, well, he can use the phone and then um I'll come down. Well, Chief, actually, you know what? I have a better idea. I'm going to get All right. All right, sorry. Hey, they Could you send I tell you what And she's not interested in the law anymore. She's not? No, she gave it up to raise her kids. Okay. Yes, I am supposed to be completely entitled to an attorney before they ask me any questions. They're refusing to let me see her and they're and they're not letting me see an attorney or anything. Um, not even a publicly appointed one. So, basically, I believe that they have no case. It's never going to happen. If you think you don't have to answer questions Yeah, I'm not answering [ __ ] Well, you know what? The best thing you can do is just be quiet and cooperate as best you can. I've I've been trying. These [ __ ] are dicks. Well, you got to stop calling them Well, if they piss they piss me off enough. Like they're being some [ __ ] ass [ __ ] All right. Yeah, well, if you don't cooperate If you said he's in bed with you and he's and acting hostile and stuff all of this is going to do is all of this is going to go against you. And there's nothing I can do to to get you out of there. All right. Well, the thing is, I'm going to be out of here by tonight for damn sure. I don't know how. There's nothing I can do. Okay, I'm actually going to start banging on this door and ask for an attorney. Well, how are they going to find one for you? I'm saying What do you mean how are they going to find them? They're public attorneys. Yes, they only give you one. They ask you that during your arraignment. What? They ask you that during your arraignment. You don't have You don't have the right not to say anything. I mean you said so and then Right? It's just going to get you more trouble if you keep talking. No matter how often it is explained to him, Hillman refuses to accept that he is responsible for getting his own attorney. If you just You just have to cooperate and say you're not going to say anything more until you get an attorney. All right, I'm just going to announce this [ __ ] to these dumbass [ __ ] who are there all the time. Well, I would call them if I were you. I'm just saying. [ __ ] I know. [ __ ] those [ __ ] Listen to you. Listen to you. Yeah, I'm pissed. I've seen you chained to a floor. Yeah. Well, I'll be sleeping on the floor. I'm just saying. You just need to cooperate and and tell whatever I don't know what I'm going to do. Well, I don't know You got lawyers. I know you got people who can come down here. Yeah, I I can't get a hold of anybody. All of the offices are closed. All right, well, I'm about to start bugging the hell out of these dudes till they get me a public attorney and I'm not answering any questions until then. I'm going to literally I'll I'm going to literally all [ __ ] all night and piss them off, but I'm still getting free in the morning. Well, whatever we do, watch how you talk and how you treat them and stuff because they can get you on that, too. You want for what? Yeah, actually you have freedom of speech. You can say whatever the hell you want to a police officer. Yeah, but if you do get on that stuff, don't do it. Don't do it. Be quiet and calm like the innocent guy you are. That's what I was doing at first until people started raising their voices at me. Well, that person was nothing nothing to me. I'm just giving you some advice and all I can All right, well I'm going to call my see if she can come down here. I don't know what she can do. She can be coming here and chilling in the room with me. That'd be pretty dope. Are you under arrest, though? What? Are you arrested now? No, they say I'm being detained. Well, I don't know. Well, I'm about to call my drive down here. All right. Well, you can if I think that there's still police at the house. There's still the house. [ __ ] ass [ __ ] Oh. That's what it's like up there. All right, well my phone's dead. You good on water? What? on the water? Oh, yeah. I'm sorry. My apologies to the sheriff. You don't need any more water or anything? Oh, no. I'm all right, man. Hey, bro. For real. Like I'm I'm sorry that I called you over here. I did I It's just like Look, Christian. I get it, man. I'm not I'm not mad at you, man. You don't have to apologize to me about nothing, okay? Just trying to do my job. That's all. Oh, I understand that. That's all I'm trying to do. I understand that completely, man. So I mean You you request an attorney? I didn't ask you any more questions. That's just That's my job. Yeah. If you want to talk, we can talk. But if you want an attorney I can't talk to you. But it's not my job to get you an attorney right now. I'm not asking you any questions. Now, if I'm asking you questions, you need to have an attorney here. I mean, this is your choice. I mean, if you want to talk without an attorney, we can talk. If you want one I'm not I'm not you any questions. But right now, we're doing a search at your house. I just So right now, we have to detain you until we figure out what's going on. That's all? That's That's what it's all about. That's right, bro. That's not why you were coming in here, bro. Why are you being so reckless, bro? Yeah. He he he's he's being on respect. He's being on you know, and you know, fortunately he you're not 52. So, it's it it that gets under his feathers, but you know it just I said kid, young man. Yeah. That gets under his feathers. So, That's just You know. It's understandable. So. I just want to go home, man. So. Can you These ankle cuffs, man. Like I kept trying to like go to like knock on the door and I kept falling every time. I was like [ __ ] my girlfriend probably left already. You got me off here. No, she's still out there. Oh, she is? That's your girl? Yeah, that's my girl. Yeah, she's a hard to grow girl. She keeps it loyal. I'm sorry, man. What was your name again? Come on. Ellman has shifted back to a more pleasant attitude, but if he thinks this will sway the detectives in his favor, he is sadly mistaken. Come on, man. We talked on the phone. We shook hands before, and you still don't know my name. I'm bad with names, man. Marcus. Marcus, all right. What's your name again? Christian. I'm joking, dude. Oh, all right. I always thought of getting into this line of work, to be honest. Well. It just seems to me like being able to help people and everything, save people in situations and everything. That's always like something I'd like doing. You know, it's like whenever I have the opportunity to do something nice for somebody. Mhm. It's like cuz I believe in karma, too. How do you? Yeah. I try to do as many nice things as I can for people. How long do you think I'm going to be in here for, man? I don't know. Right now I'm waiting for my boss to do what he's got to do with the house. That's what I'm waiting on. Really? But I can't talk to you cuz you wanted to turn, remember? Oh, you're not even kicking it with me, man? Okay. All right. Yeah, we can just we can just talk about some regular stuff, man. I don't care. I don't I don't think I have much else to do. Right. You don't take my cigarettes in my pocket? No. You don't got to ask to smoke in here. What? I said, "Please don't ask to smoke in here cuz unfortunately it's against policy." Well, I got you, man. I wouldn't light up a square in here. So like So like can I ask you a question? Yeah, go for it, man. As long as it's off the record, bro, cuz I feel like I can trust you. All right. So here's my question. Yeah. You live Yeah, you said yourself, man, I live out in the country, out in the out in the rural area. Yeah. You talk like you live in wealthy in the vision. What what what where is this You know I am black, so I I get it, but I mean you talk like you have a different skin tone. I'm trying to figure out where this coming from. I been in the hood my whole life, bro. No, I haven't lived out there. I only lived out there for like 3 years. Where do you guys originally live? Uh we lived on the southeast side. They kind of Okay. I just I just normally you don't see Alto kids or Alto Oh, yeah, yeah. People talk. 100s and bros and And good luck with that water too, man. Actually, I'm going to call Am I going to end up in like a jail cell tonight? I don't know. That's just whack, bro. What's that? I don't want to jail cell, bro. I don't know. I mean, I I don't know what's going to happen. You came down here for us to talk to you. That's why we came We brought you down here. Yeah, I know, but I thought it was going to be like a friendly talk, bro, and then he started getting all up in my face and everything. That happened after you said you wanted an attorney and you didn't want to talk to us anymore. That was all after. Prior to that, no one was yelling, no one was screaming. We were just talking to you. No one said anything. We were just talking to you. Most people do not realize how slow this process can be. Often, suspects can sit in an interrogation room for hours before an attorney comes or they are moved to a cell. I was told Your tone changed when I started saying, "You know, it's what my it's what I do." Your tone changed when I said I mean your story doesn't make sense. And then you're like, "I'm done talking." Well, that's your business. You can do that. Yeah. So, I mean prior to that no one's yelling, screaming, we're treating you like a grown man that you are. The only problem is though like that I've had with like problems with police in the past is they'll really try to book you on anything. Like how cops like a slight like mix-up of words. Hey. I I can respect hearing that. I'm not those other dudes. Yeah, I feel I feel you are cool though, bro. just getting your side of story. But I unfortunately get to call you out on some Some of what you said isn't true. So, I am sorry. No different than if if we're out in the streets and we're not in this situation and I'm just some dude and if I say, "Hey, man. Here's uh such and such." And you know it's not legit. You ain't going to You're going to call me out on it. It's just Yeah. You know, and and this isn't the crime of the century. But it's it is what it is, you know? Yeah, man. I'm tired. I need to go to bed. Yeah, uh if y'all think it's really necessary, could you give me a double mattress? All right. Here's the deal. We're just kicking it, right? We're just kicking it. You watch way too much TV, dude. Like the whole getting you an attorney and now you're asking for a double mat I mean, wait. Come on, man. We don't We don't put in requests. That's That none of that happens. That's not real. None of that's real. I mean, if you're locked up tonight, you're going to get what you get. I mean, we don't Oh, man. I've I've slept on worse, believe me, bro. I've slept on worse. Yeah, but I mean don't I don't I don't get what this kind of facade is. I mean it's like no one don't put a request in for a double mattress and your own room and this isn't a hotel. I mean Oh, oh, no, that's not what I mean like a double mattress, bro. I mean like a double match. They don't do that, dude. They just don't. No, that's pretty whack. But it's not supposed to be plush and Oh, I know it's not supposed to be plush. I just really don't want to go to jail, man. I got plans. Didn't you talk about that on the phone? And we were just talking. But he stopped, so. Yeah, man. Like for real, bro. You a you a cool ass dude, bro. Like it's like if you really want to talk to me about this [ __ ] like I trust you, bro. But you said you wanted an attorney. I do want an attorney, bro, but it's just so many I can't talk to you if you want an attorney. I just can't. I mean you're Do you rights. You said I'll talk to you. We talked. And then when I called you out on the just a simple thing, you're like, "Yeah, I think I need an attorney." Cool. I mean I'm not going to sit up and twist your words. I'm not going to, you know, scare you into it. I go by the book. You want attorney, you want attorney. If you don't want attorney, I can read you rights again and tell you let's talk until you feel uncomfortable and we, you know, we can do that, too. But I can't. I I I just And I'm not going to treat you like you're 10. I'm going to treat you like you're a grown man. I I I respect And what happened out there on that street was grown man stuff. But I've been doing this [ __ ] way too long. Story wasn't 100% to what you said. it I just I got too much evidence to say otherwise. And if you freaked out when something happened, so be it. Let's deal with it and move on. Yeah. You know, you're from the hood. I know doggone well you weren't there by yourself. I know this, but I know the fact you ain't going to rat out your buddies, either. I know that. Come on, man. I'm from the hood, too. I know what it's like. Yeah. I get it. You said you had dreams. What What do you What are you planning on doing? I I'm sorry. What did you say? You said you had plans. Like, you have, you know, things you want to do in life. What Oh, yeah. Um I just finished my um I just finished actually got a 3.6 on my GPA um from graduating from high school. And I'm taking a gap year between going to high school and college. And then I'm going to the Hillman is still unaware that whatever plans he has for the future will never be fulfilled. What does your mom and dad do? Um my mom doesn't work. My dad So, cool. Uh you all did the painting paintings up here, man. Christian, we banned you this. This ain't a art museum, dude. And hopefully you like putting art up here. THAT SHOULD BE GOLD, BRO. MHM. OKAY. Look at nice little Mona Lisa right there. Yeah, I could deck this room out. Yeah. So, did you think I was lying about I was doing a search warrant at your house? Oh, hell no, bro. I believe you. Okay. And he showed me the letter man. I was like, oh, they want it. All right. Oh, you you're you're talking And they just stood there walking through the house and everything. I'm like, well, have fun. There is not [ __ ] in there. I think there may be a bong somewhere. We ain't the bong police. We don't care about no bongs. Hey bro, would you mind grabbing me another glass of water? Nope, not a problem. I I I do it myself. Thank you. Not a problem. That looks cool. So, if I were to if I were to actually be like incarcerated, would there be like a bail? Or a bond? How the process work, Christian? If you're arrested, okay? You go over to the jail. Then you have to see the judge or a magistrate. Yeah. That's when you're arraigned. At that point, judge or magistrate will ask you if you want your own attorney or court-appointed attorney. I'm I'm sorry. Excuse me. At that point, the judge or magistrate will ask you, "Do you have your own attorney or want a court-appointed attorney?" At that point, you will be assigned an attorney if you want a just a public attorney. Okay? So, but because I'm not asking you any questions related to this case, we're just sitting here chilling. Oh, yeah. That's That's the thing. I just wanted to let you know that I pointed an attorney to come in here. I actually have my own attorney, but she's out of town right now. Who's that? Yeah. Oh, yeah. It It seems like I forget a lot of stuff, man. I hit my head really hard when I was younger. And what's going on? Mhm. There is nothing his parents can do to help, but that doesn't stop Hillman from harassing them because he doesn't think things are moving as quickly as they should. No. What's going on? Who's this? Oh my god. I'm in the police station right now in interrogation room with my feet completely shackled to the floor. I'm in the [ __ ] police department with my both my feet shackled. Cuz they got they got me chained up on my feet. Linked to the floor. Yes. Oh my god, she is a saint. I don't know. They might put me in custody. They might do some [ __ ] but I'm going to have one of my lawyers come through here and chew the [ __ ] out of them. Don't even answer the phone. I have to answer the phone. Who is this? Who? How you doing? What? I'm sorry. I could not hear anything you just said. I don't know at the moment. All right. Well, let me tell you guys let me call you guys back in a little bit, all right? is not available. Please leave a message after the tone. Hillman scrolls through his contact list calling anyone he can think of. Hey, are you still waiting for me? Yeah, I know it's a waiting room. What's up? I'm in a mess. These [ __ ] got me chained to the floor. I know they're asking where are the cops asking for. Maybe I can see you right now. I'm sorry. What did you say? The cop is asking to see you right now. But we're pretty sure they're going to release you. But I was like But obviously you want someone to sit in and support you like I really do. I I really do need someone to support me right now. I'm sorry but cuz if you're not here to talk to me because there's a possibility of you not coming home tonight. And um it just depends on how the officers feel about it all. Feel you. Feel you. Okay. I'm I'm just really hoping that I'm not ending up behind bars. I I don't want to go to jail. Well, the officers are not here to talk to you. I mean like 20 minutes ago they said basically it was like it's more than likely that you're going to jail tonight but now it's just you know because um like there's a possibility that Yeah, I I just got finished messing my ass And he also said that he was stop talking to her. And I don't know if he was talking about me or you, but he was like I don't [ __ ] with all of you. He said he was disrespectful and talking to you. So. Does that [ __ ] Does that Does that [ __ ] know who the [ __ ] I am? I don't know. I told him to tell him we got Oh, and then and then I was like like the meter or whatever you would call it, you know, here at the police station. So, how long did this take? And he said I was like um like 2 and 1/2 hours. And he was like and he was like, "But we used to talk and I was thinking you guys were dating for like 5 years." And he was like, "No, that's bullshit." And I was like, "All right." And he said he was And he said he was embarrassed. Yeah, this room I've literally there's this um rectangular piece of steel bolted into the ground with handcuffs on it. And they're attached to my feet and it hurts like a [ __ ] Are you okay? You know, honestly I think we should really think about going home tonight. Can I go Can I Can I go home with you tonight and cuddle? Yeah. That would be that That would be so supreme. I honestly I was thinking about that when you were going out the door. That's all I want right now. Cuz that's what we both want at this point. Well, how do I need to get the [ __ ] out of this police station? This shit's driving me nuts. So, when are you going to go home, honestly? Do you think somebody will be All right. And I'm I'm I'm I'm going to try to get out of this place as fast as I possibly can. What did they What did they say to you? Nothing. They're trying to play the good old good guy, bad guy routine. It's funny as [ __ ] Okay. Yeah, it's honestly hilarious. Please wait for me. Kick ass. The best thing about home tonight I'm leaving. You [ __ ] eat it. I'm not spending any of my life. What? I didn't know. As soon as he As As soon as he put his hands around my throat I didn't give a [ __ ] what any of them [ __ ] is. All right. I'll be back 10 minutes. I will. Neither Hillman nor his girlfriend grasped that it is unlikely he will be released so soon after committing a violent crime that placed a man in critical condition. God damn it, that [ __ ] is annoying. Man, I'm lucky I'm tall, bro. You did. I could never do that. What's up? Ah, god damn. Can you help me, bro? All right, cool. Let's go. Ow. What's up? here and in a few minutes. Okay. Well, I see it's going to be more in a few minutes. They're still at the house. That's what she said? Well, I They're still here. Cuz my boss just said they're still there. Dang. Uh God damn, man. Woo. You got these boys tied out here. Mhm. Is that why you knocked on Was there something you wanted to tell me? You knocked on the door. So, I opened it and you knocked. Oh, no. I was saying, you know, uh Yeah, she's about to be out the driveway in a minute. And um my girl is still sitting outside in the parking lot. Speaking of which, I'm upset with you on one thing. Why? Your girl. Yeah, she keep it 100. She the real deal. Da da da. How long y'all been dating? 2 and 1/2 days. She said 2 hours. She said "I just met this dude." And I'm thinking I'm thinking y'all been dating 2 years or something. 5 years. Seems like it. 2 hours Chris, come on man. I'm thinking y'all have been like high school sweethearts or something. I like black girls bro. She ain't black. I I know but but she she she makes it. Yes she Yeah, I just thought it was funny. I'm just messing with you. I just thought it was funny. Like I just met him. Y'all need to start putting some fuzzy [ __ ] on these bro. I don't do fuzzy stuff dude. Like some like padding out of it or something. This made for you to just be still. Crawling all over the place. That's really not that's really enough. Do you know what I mean? I see you. Hillman is incapable of sitting still. As soon as the detective leaves, he is back on his phone. Are you out? What? Are you out? No, I'm I'm I'm chained to the floor. I They They told me that um that you um will probably come home tonight. But, they have a lot of questions for you and they don't know when that will be. All right. Well, I'm going to have the best lawyer ever there. So, they're not Their questions aren't going to do [ __ ] Well, one thing they said um this morning the detective I spoke to said that they already know. They already know that. So, you know, you could tell them to give their names. But, um You You think I'm You think I'm supposed to know any of my boys? The problem with it is that they already know who it is. What for a life, yeah? Well, they seem to know who it is. So, So, what I have to do is wait for you to call me. And the detectives are going to They're bringing you some clothes to put on cuz they're going to keep the clothes you got on. They took your boots. Wait. Wait. Wait. They took my boots? What boots? The blue ones cuz they had blood all over them. This piece of information shakes Hillman. This evidence proves he did more than punch McFarland as he previously told the detectives. This is not going to go well for you at all. I don't know, man. Just like you said, you did a serious thing. But, the thing is it is is I said I think there's two sides to the story. There is two sides to the story. I'm leaving. Grab me by my neck. Thought he was all hard ass and everything. Should try to slam me me ground. Hell no. And he's got his upkicks for us then, didn't he? Yeah, he was Now he's going to pay the price cuz he overdid it. Good. You mean maybe he won't [ __ ] with anybody else. But like but but that's the fear he just says, you know, you know, he he he just he's got to answer some questions. He says he's he's he's he's just got to answer some questions. But the thing is they didn't ask a question. All right. All right, the the thing is No. Don't come home? No, no. Please come home. Why please come home? They want you to please come home. Why? Well, you don't have to tonight if you don't want to. No, why you want me at home now? Well, because of everything that happened. The thing is that after you leave, well, you know, he's going to figure out where you go tonight and they won't keep you. Wait, what? They're going to let you you'll probably be able to get out of jail with get out of the if you can identify Carlos tonight and come home. But if you don't want to come home, then you can do what you want. What? What if it was a different What do I do? Somebody said there was two ATVs. No, well, somebody was full of [ __ ] Right now they said we don't have another one. We're Yeah, see that's what I mean. Those witness testimonies are absolutely [ __ ] What?
