This is a story from a fair few years ago when I was 13. I was home alone at the time. My parents were out for the night and my older brother and sister were also out enjoying their Saturday. Being home alone was not too uncommon for me at this age and it did not bother me as I enjoyed having my weekend evenings watching films. We lived on a normal street with terraced housing. At night the road tended to be pretty quiet. On this given night the weather was dreadful. It had been raining non-stop all day and there was that constant sound of rain drumming off the roof making it almost impossible to think. I was watching TV as per usual, when our neighbours house alarm started ringing. Our neighbour was a doctor and was constantly on call. I had been inside their home to turn off and rearm the alarm on several occasions. We had their keys and she appreciated when we did so. Almost instinctively I paused my movie, grabbed the spare keys and walked over to her house. I entered in her code, re-armed the alarm and closed the door. Within 2 minutes of sitting down again to watch my movie, I heard the alarm starting again. I grabbed the keys and opened her front door. I decided to have a quick look through the house. It was a relatively large house with 3 stories. Having searched the first 2 floors my attention was drawn to the top floor. Although the main hall light was on, there was also a light on up on the 3rd floor, which struck me as being unusual. I clambered up the set of stairs to the top floor and entered the bedroom. Sure enough, the door to the boiler room was half open with the lights on. I opened the door to turn the lights off. The next few seconds felt like they lasted an eternity. As I opened the door, I was met with the bronze shiny sight of the boiler, but it was what I caught a glimpse of in the reflection that gave me trouble sleeping for a few years afterwards. Inside the boiler, I saw a large dark silhouette of what looked like a homeless man, hunched up looking down. I tried not to focus on it and due to pure fear chose to ignore it. I acted as if I saw nothing, reached for the switch and closed the door behind me. Running down the stairs to the door is an understatement. I armed the alarm again and sprinted into my house. Immediately, I phoned the police. I hadn’t even finished dialing and the alarm went off again. There was no chance I was going in there again. For 20 odd minutes I sat staring out my front window just hidden enough so I couldn't be seen by anyone. The police arrived and confirmed that somebody broke in. The thing that left me questioning the whole incident was that there were dirty footprints in the house. Not boot prints but actual footprints. Whoever was in the house was in bare feet which really disturbed me. The real finisher was that the next day there were reports that a girl had been attacked in a park that is literally outside my back yard’s wall. To my knowledge no one was caught and held responsible. It affected me terribly for years afterwards, and I became very anxious whenever I was left home alone... It was around 7pm, I had just left my dads apartment after spending the weekend there, something I did quite often. I lived with my aunt because my mom passed away a couple of years ago. To get to my aunts house I had to take the bus from downtown and to get downtown I had to take a bus from my dads place. I am at the bus stop at my dads location and the bus arrives. The doors opened and I stepped in, paid for my ticket and sat down. The bus was almost empty except for me, the busdriver and some homeless looking dude in the back. We arrived at the almost empty bus station and I stepped out. I knew I had to wait around 20 minutes for my bus to arrive, so I decided to go into a store that was just on the opposite end of the station. When I came out of the store the bus station was now completely empty except for one person, who was standing in the middle of the street, staring at me. I got a little creeped out by this, but didn't think much of it, thinking he was probably just drunk or high. Next to the store is a small one room building that is used as a waiting room, so I decided to go in there and wait. I sat down and pulled out my phone. From the position I was sitting in, I could scope out the entire bus station and see everything. I was looking down at my phone, glancing up every few minutes to see if my bus had arrived. About 5 minutes had gone by when I glanced up and was shocked to see that the guy from earlier was still standing in the exact same position, still looking right at me A few minutes went by and I looked up once again, the guy in the street was now gone. I figured his bus must've came and he got on, but the weird part was that I didn't hear any bus. I glanced at the clock on my phone and saw that it was time to go. When I came outside, I looked around and saw that someone was standing about 13 feet away from me, with their back facing my way. I felt a bit uneasy, but decided to find out if the person needed help. I called out "Hello?" and "Excuse me?" but there was no response. What I decided to do next was probably the stupidest decision of my life. I decided to go and put a hand on the person’s shoulder to get their attention. I slowly walked over, inching my way closer with every step. I was about 2 feet away from the person when he abruptly turned around. It was the man from before, the same homeless looking man I had seen on the bus. He had this crazed look in his eyes and before I knew it, he started laughing at me. I screamed and turned around to run away. I quickly looked back and saw what appeared to be a KNIFE in his hand, I screamed even louder and ran as fast as I could over to the bus, which luckily for me had just arrived. I went inside the bus and told the bus driver what had happened. We went over to where I had seen the man earlier but he was nowhere to be seen.. This has by far been the craziest and scariest experience of my life. Luckily, I never saw him again.
