Agents responded and they say Shiffer left the scene. Highway Patrol said a trooper tried to pull him over in Warren County, which led to a chase. Gunfire, they say, was exchanged and then there was a standoff that lasted for more than 5 hours. Shiffer was killed after negotiations failed. The suspect then uh did raise a firearm toward law enforcement and shots were fired by law enforcement officers on the scene. 41 congressional candidates have embraced the QAnon conspiracy, which is linked to the January 6th insurrection. Of those, 38 are Republican, three are independent. So, where did these dummies get these dumb ideas? The same place that wants you to believe your miserable and and closeted uncle are actually happy. The internet. So, Patriot Front got pulled over. They were all piled in the U-Haul. And they are all detained. The home of a current NASCAR driver now at the center of a squatter's case. This Rowan County home is currently for sale. Our deputies have arrested these two people, Darius Hall and Natasha Fields. Both are facing multiple charges including breaking and entering and trespassing. Rowan County was alerted after Sir Lance's video from the multi-million dollar home showed four people inside of it just days ago. WBTV's Lowell Rose joins us from Rowan County with more. It's an unusual case involving people from the Moorish sovereign nation, an anti-government group known by law enforcement for defrauding people of property and money. This time their target was a massive home listed for nearly $16 million. It was It was a break-in of the residence. They had no right to be there. It had never been sold. Rowan County deputies were called after the real estate company got a false report the house was bought for $16 million and the money was wired to the mayor of Mooresville. And you know, through the real estate company, we you know, we were notified and responded uh to the location. Deputies found two adults and two children on the property. The real estate company noticed the people on surveillance video. They were at that point were detained. There was a firearm found on the male. Deputies say they found an assault rifle in the car, fake money, and the people refused to cooperate with them. The car had a paper sovereign license plate which tipped deputies off about their affiliation with the Moorish sovereign nation. Well, we can see it appears they were only in there within a few hours because we were able to obtain video footage of them going into the residence of which they had no right to be there. Darius Hall and Natasha Fields of Columbia, South Carolina were charged with breaking and entering, second-degree trespassing, and two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Hall also faces charges of carrying a concealed weapon. We've seen it before and we've seen had other interactions with uh sovereign citizen groups here. The real estate company declined to comment about the incident. Rowan County Sheriff's Office says there are now changes in place at the estate to prevent this from happening again. There is security there now to avoid any uh situation where that might happen again. The Sheriff's Office tell me that both people have been released on bond. These alleged squatters are set to appear before a judge on September 26th at Rowan County District Criminal Court. Reporting in Salisbury, Lowell Rose, WBTV, on your side. That's what I want. Serving others has been important to you throughout your life. This ceremony was better late than never. It's not unusual for World War II veterans not to have received these medals because back in the day, back in that day, uh these medals were first issued as ribbons. William Wilburn enlisted in the Army straight out of high school. He served in occupied Germany during World War II. He was a mechanic in the 614 Tank Destroyer Battalion. In Germany, we had to hide from Germans. The memory still vivid and the war stories never get old. We had to hide from them. We couldn't go out any place and after dark. Everybody likes to be appreciated, but the sacrifices those guys made will never understand. Uh sleeping in the crawl space beneath a tank and and eating little C-rations just big and freezing cold at night. The sacrifices they made for for freedom. Uh nobody understands but them. Something William's grown children don't understand, why their father never talked about his service. His son writes in a blog, quote, "One of the neat things that happens when you move old people around is you start going through stuff and discovering things. In doing so, I found my dad's old Army paperwork, enlistment and discharge papers included." His father had a long list of decorations, citations, and medals, and was honorably discharged in 1946. Sir, it's my honor to award you the third medal here, which is the Army of Occupation of Germany. The AUSA and Salute Colorado brought his family together to make sure he got all of his well-deserved medals. We're running out of our World War II veterans to be able to recognize one in person is is really a blessing. It's incredibly rewarding and it feels very good. Bringing this tough Army veteran to tears. It makes me very happy to know someone still appreciates the blessing. His service may not have been well known, but it will never be forgotten.
