the convicted Facebook killer notoriously known for putting a picture of his victim's lifeless body on social media along with the post I am going to prison was just sentenced to Life Behind Bars [Music] this video contains the interview of a man who shot his wife multiple times and claimed it was self-defense on August 8 2013. friends and family members of 26 year old Jennifer Alfonso were horrified to log into Facebook to see a devastating picture of her lifeless body the picture had been uploaded by her husband of nearly four years 31 year old Derek Medina Medina claimed that Alfonso had a history of being abusive and that she became violent during a fight that morning he shot her six to eight times and then proceeded to take a picture of her body and post it on Facebook afterward he closed the door to the room told his ten-year-old stepdaughter not to go in and went to turn himself in to the police [Music] coming with you [Music] foreign [Music] so we've been working all the way from 2009 to not to get her daughter back and I've gotten her to stop smoking and you know having her to stop smoking marijuana and all that stuff not sure I did catch her smoking a few months ago a couple months ago after she told me she stopped so I don't know if she was still on drugs or marijuana or cocaine or whatever substance but I know that when we did get divorced she was taking a lot of ecstasy she didn't mention that to me there's she'll be typing everything that you say or just so that you know it's very important that you speak slowly clearly okay and there can't be any nods or resigning what do you mean residing with her oh like you live with her at the home yeah she lives with me I'm the owner there and did you have any children together no thank you foreign this morning you turned yourself into the South Miami Police Department correct yes sir and why did you do that because I'm not a Kidder I'm with self-defense and I'm very I honored my country I honored my State honor city of South Miami and I do not feel that I am uh guilty then I feel like I intently killed like I I do not feel like this was uh you know like I was out there to kill her no I wasn't this was self-defense there was a fight at your residence this morning yes around what time did you wake up this morning woke up at 9 30. and when you woke up what was the first thing that happened um she basically came into the room she basically mentioned um she started ranting about you know why we didn't um I didn't wake her up at 1 30 after we went out last night to the Miami Yacht Club and I mentioned to her that my stepdaughter was passed out by 10 30 at night foreign so she was upset about a plan that she had for you to wake her up at 1 30 yes yes and correct and then she started throwing stuff objects towards me as a wedding and then I pulled out my weapon and then I told her hey back off or I'm gonna call the cops and she goes go I call the cops whatever you're not going to do anything oh sorry it's a Dominican and Cuban in me you say that she was throwing items at you what exactly was it that she was throwing at you um towels um mascara um creams anything she can grab her hand on boxes anything in the room she could throw at home I was just dumping I got hit in the face a few times did you sustain any injuries at that point no only when she was push me and punch me afterwards when I got up to her that's when I went back and for Africa you stated that during this initial argument in your room before she was throwing towels at you you armed yourself with your firearm yes but I honor myself which I forgot to leave that part out on myself when she started pushing me and then and punched me then I backed up and I went and got the gun and where did you obtain the firearm from in the closet of my past on my holster so at the time you brought the firearm out was it in a holster correct I pulled it out on the holster and what did you do at that point safety was on a point a towards her I told her to stop and then headed to that bed and she let her know the safety slow down please yeah sorry can you repeat that answer um the safety was on I brought it they took it to her like I pointed towards her and then she basically said you know or I told her the safety was on but she was like you know you're not gonna kill me you're not going to do anything whatever I go no I'm not there's no need for that but you need to stop punching me and all this I have to slow down okay after she said you're not going to kill me what it was she said that you're not going to kill me and I said no of course not the safety is on that that was in my modem and I want you to stop punching me and attacking me at that point did she exit the room yes she um she left I went into my I put the gun back she um I was well she was still there I went back I put the gun back into the spot in the holes during the pants in the closet I went into bed and then she was in the bathroom and then she was throwing stuff and still trying to agitate me and push me on more and I was like and then she said that she was going to leave me tonight and Paco stuff I said that's fine she okay sorry again then she said she was gonna leave me um at midnight when I go to work because I worked the midnight shift and she's got like two weeks vacation off and I said go right ahead I don't have a problem with that so and at that point did she leave the room correct but she left a couple times back and forth and to throw stuff and keep on trying to agitate me did there come a point where she was downstairs yeah at that point did you exit your room and go downstairs when she exited the apartment yes she needed to find out what was going on and when you went downstairs were you armed with your firearm at that point no when you went downstairs Medina recounts the fight with his wife and believes her actions worth it self-defense that is going to be hard to uphold since she watched yes okay and after at that time when you armed yourself in your firearm what did you do next I went downstairs you know confronted her so what she was doing and she had a knife in her hand grabbed the hand grabbed I grabbed the knife in my right hand put it back in the drawer and then she kept on punching me like crazy again then I fired take you back for one second when you were coming downstairs where was she in the kitchen and did you have the firearm in your hand yes it did and when you came downstairs and saw her in the kitchen did she have the knife at that point did she say anything to you at that point yeah you know you're not going to kill me blah blah blah and just like you're a [ __ ] and all that stuff [Music] now you stated that she had a knife in her hand can you describe the knife um silver about a foot long with a black handle and did she make a direct threat to you with that knife what did she say to you was she said that you're not gonna kill me at first and then she says I'm gonna kill you you know because you're pulling out a gun on me and you stated that you disarmed her correct and how was your firearm in your hand at the time that you disarmed her correct and what did you do with the knife once you took it out of her hand put it in the drawer and at that point did you close the door yeah was she armed with any other weapon at this time no she just okay what happened next she just started firing punches like crazy I'm gonna stop you but she was really like like really attacking me like I was getting out the way I got hit in the arm and she was like going for my temple I felt like she was you know she was trying to just take me out and then also um she did make threats upstairs about me dying and she hopes I die and then she'll get someone to kill me or whatever it is she did make those threats upstairs so after she hits you in the kitchen I shot it how many times did you discharge your weapon um I want to see it six to eight times was that full capacity of your gun at that time with your full capacity like in a sense your firearm was fully loaded correct the magazine capital and what did you do with the gun after you shot her well she was still lunging and throwing punches even when I did shoot her a couple times she was still fighting I put it upstairs um in the closet again on top of the pants and then I got some pants some jeans I talked to my stepdaughter I told her to keep this door closed don't come downstairs I told her to stay there and then I went downstairs I took the picture and then I just locked the door now let me ask you back to the fight when you were in the kitchen with her wish when she was hitting you was she near the hallway or was she no it was all in the kitchen let me let me finish the question when she was hitting you were you closer to the hallway okay and is that closer to the exit of the residence like the front door to the residence I had it like in the back you know the fronts it's kind of like in the middle yeah but you your kitchen is a U-shaped Kitchen Gallery and you were near the hallway is that correct say yes yes so you were closer to the hallway which leads to the correct front door to the house now you stated that you took a picture what did you take a picture of of her was she deceased at that point yes and why did you take a photo so the family would know and be notified and they can rush over there and get my stuff off and what did you do once you took that photo uploaded it on Facebook on her page so the family can see and when you uploaded it on her page did you upload it on your Facebook page as well because I have her family and friends on my Facebook too and at any point prior to leaving the house did you call 911 yeah we just say that loud no I didn't I'm sorry once you exited the residence did you lock the door behind you yes it did bottom lock and what did you do after that I went straight to my aunt's house my hand's awesome and your aunt's name is Valerie Medina and do you know her address six eight four one Southwest 48th Street Miami Florida 33155 and once you are at your aunt's house what did you do I pretty much informed them that I just killed my wife that she was abusing me and she said why she was crying she was a little confused and then I advise my uncle as well and then there I told him to call my my grandpa my dad and my stepmom so I can you know say goodbye before I go to the police station foreign Nash Bobby I mean the full name is Abby Johnny can you spell that well it's gonna be hard on top a B I think c h a n i and you then inform them as well as your dad that you had shot your wife yes I did and who took you to the police station my dad Derek Medina Derek Ian Medina and did you go to the police station voluntarily yes yes and once you got to the what police station did you go to city of South Miami and when you got there what did you do I informed the dispatcher that I just killed my wife and she was attacking me and then she said okay wait here and then the police said California came over sorry city of South Miami came over they checked the bad weapons and then they took me to the shop I'm gonna take you back for a moment when you shot your wife where did you shoot your wife at um I believe it was in the stomach enough it could have gone up to her chest area to throw to the neck from the neck to the summer Medina might have been able to convince the police that he acted in self-defense if he had fired one maybe even two times depending on whether or not the first shot could have stopped her attack since he shot her six to eight times several of which were in the stomach self-defense looks more unlikely and do you know how many times you actually hit your life oh everything that was in there here everything that was the full Realm so every five every round that you fired hit your one correct I want to take you back now to your prior I guess jobs was there ever a point in time where you were a amateur boxer yeah and how long were you an amateur boxer since 2004 2007 I started professionally and what was your record wait a second I'm finished sorry what was your what was your record as an amateur boxer 25 and up and that means that you never lost a fight correct are you right-handed or left-handed right-handed when you shot your wife did she say anything no she just kept on trying to attack me she was in charge she had an expression like she was shot but she still was trying to swing at me trying to Lunge him what type of expression did she have describe now kiss her mouth open up in shock against the shock did she ever ask for help when she was falling to the ground no what injuries did you sustain today um I have marks on my chest my right side of the chest and my left arm is bruised severe pain correct are any of those injuries life-threatening no but I mean it feels like it they they said it was just bruised but I felt like I don't know it I think it's I don't know if it's fractured but I feel severe pain too much left on did you feel that her punching you in the arm and chest would ultimately kill you correct I was more concerned about the temple because she wasn't hitting you in your arm and chest though she got close to my temple I got out the way she was real close to my temple but let me ask you the injuries to your arm into your chest those were not life-threatening injuries correct no well maybe my chest maybe my chest yes my arm no I just yes and why did you not call 9-1-1 from the residence from the beginning of it all or when I shot her both because I figured I had to solve it on my own I had dealt with this for four years and I've never had to call the cops we've been able to resolve it I didn't know I was going to get to this so during the course of your wife being abusive to you over four years at no point did you ever call the police no I just informed my family did you ever think that maybe involving the police could help your situation nope foreign you chose not to call the police today because one I wanted to turn myself in I wanted to go in voluntarily I didn't want a call and I didn't want my stepdaughter to see all that now you stated earlier that that you you feel things could have gone differently how do you think things could have turned out differently if it didn't even start from the beginning if the fighting the verbal fight didn't even start from the beginning I it just could have been handled differently the questions are designed to show that Medina's life wasn't in immediate danger and that he could have called for help before choosing a lethal solution everything in general you know talk to talk to them so my wife knows that I'm not gonna fight you know with my stepdaughter even before that you know but I try not to even get into it I just ignore it that's why I was trying to go back to sleep because I don't know I wanna my step daughter involved so she was pushing me and attacking me from upstairs to the downstairs I know you stated earlier that you your family was aware of the abuse that you were that your wife was inflicting upon you did you ever photograph any of those injuries yes it did and where are those photographs on the phone at my aunt's house and what are those photographs of just my arm I didn't get my chest because I had my tank top on is that from today so the the photographs that are on your phone reflect the entry that was sustained today and video prior to today did you ever show anybody these injuries that you sustained from your wife what was that oh yeah my family when I got there they saw it my ads you're talking about today's and yes yes prior to today no is anyone has anybody seen any injuries that you sustained as a result of your wife prior to today no because it just happened in the morning so it's impossible it happened uh 10 something in the morning and why did you why didn't you leave the house in lieu of and when you shot her were you in fear for your life yes and why she was repeatedly punching me and punching me and trying to get to my temple my neck when I say I was in fear with the shot um with um her punch towards my chest area because she was getting close to my neck so I was in fear with my neck her catching me into the throat and to the temple on the left side but the armor wasn't you know she's not gonna kill me punching my heart I'm going to show you one additional form that was presented to you earlier for the record I'm showing a Miami-Dade Police Department can send to provide DNA specimen for laboratory analysis do you recognize this form yes sir is this a form that was presented to you earlier yes sir did you read and consent to the DNA specimen yes sir for the record the form was signed on August the 8th at 3 17 pm and witnessed by this investigator I'm going to show you a little photograph do you recognize this you took with your phone yeah um yes and is this the photograph that you uploaded to Facebook yes I did now I know it's small but can you please read your posting I'm going to prisoner death sentence February 8 2016. he was sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 25 years Medina was also sentenced to 15 years for the weapons conviction and five years for neglect since his
